Hi all.  Quet day here, but sun is shining and again we are supposed to be 69 degrees today.  Got some new books from the Library today so I am set for a few days.  Since I do not watch TV or run around town books are my salvation.  LOL  Love them.

Hope you all have a great day.

Mary Ann

You're right, Patricia, we don't practice what we preach.  I went from the hilarious turkeys to dog rescues, one after another.

Joan, I'm glad you received the books.  I remember the days when I was in grade school when I'd go to the library and bring home 8 books to read in a couple of weeks.  I don't read now, partly because my eyes won't allow me to, but I've got other things to keep me busy and occupied.

I wish our temps were in the 60s, but I guess I can't complain about the mid 50s.

Mary Ann, I love listening to the books.  So many stories out there and all are different.  III signed up for them right after I was declared legally blind and lived in Calif.  Been reading <listening to> them ever since.

Joan, I have trouble reading with my lazy eyes but I tried books on tape after Sandy gave me some info but unfortunately, I kept falling asleep instead of hearing more than a chapter.   :-[

Patricia, I had a great time looking at  your links.

I've had a day where I think I accomplished nothing but I was busy all day.  The cat was on my bed in a way that I could not make it, I was almost finished dressing when Tom came home and we got to talking, then I got on the computer, saw a couple of ships in both Duluth and the Soo, had lunch and I don't know what else I did and did not do, but I am not sure I finished dressing and never got the bed made and it's almost time for bed.  Ever have days like that?

We got the kiddos where they needed to be once again today.  We had a few minutes to chat with Michele and she looked so much better today.  Yesterday she just looked SO worn out.

JACKIE, I am confused.....regarding the April Fools.....  I am thinking you were under the impression that they were selling this product and you both wondered WHY would they do this to tease your pets.....then you realized it was, indeed a April Fools?

PATRICIA, I enjoyed all of the links but especially the mother singing the Karen Carpenter song with the darling baby trying t9 sing along.  So sweet!

Sleep well,

Jenny...
...Jenny I posted this hoping some would laugh over me and Richard falling for this as we did..Jenny yes you are correct, I thought they had sent out emails advertising their new product of dog scented candles...I thought are they crazy?...I now know it was me and Richard ( the crazy pair ) who got taken in on the day...Have to admit, they fooled us, wonder how many others were as gullible as we were.. ;D  :-[

MarsGal

Just peeking in this morning and see all the links you all posted. Lots to look at today.

When I looked out the window I discovered frost, FROST, I think it is supposed to get to 60 this afternoon. There was a wildfire watch out for the area yesterday because of the dry and windy weather. My next door neighbor wasn't too bright. He had a fire going out in his back yard. I don't know what he was burning, but the winds were blowing the strong flames toward his wooden porch and no one was in sight keeping an eye on the thing.

Today is the Welsh Society meeting at Hoss's. I think I will order a Hamburger or Fish sandwich with fries today, rather than a meal and the salad buffet.

Shan did his typing assistant bit a little while ago. Lucy is in his place now, purrifying the keyboard. Time to quit before this post gets Pawsed.

Mary Ann

Jenny, I am sure it is encouraging when Michele looks better a day after not looking so good.

MarsGal, we had a cold morning a couple of days ago but got up to the high 40s that day.  As far as I can see, our snow is gone, but that doesn't mean we won't get more.  Now it is 40 degrees with the sun shining.

MarsGal, I think you have a foolish neighbor and at least the wind was not blowing toward your house.

Hi Everyone.  We have a beautiful sunny day today with a high expected of 73.  We are looking forward to Scott being with us later this afternoon and early evening.  Other than that I expect it to be a pretty quiet day. I do have a couple of business matter to tend to.  I think I may have overdone a bit yesterday but was feeling like getting something accomplished.

There were so many good postings that I wish I had the energy to comment on all of them but that is not the case.  I just want to mention that I thought the April Fool's joke that you shared with us Jackie was a classic and showed a lot of imagination and effort on the part of whoever thought it up and prepared it.  Sure glad it was a joke and not something real as can't image such candles.

I hope everyone will enjoy the day.

Hi Larry, it's good to see your post this morning.

Bubble, thank you for making the Grand Haven change.  I hope some day I will click on LIVE and get a live action with the camera available.  I preferred the other, but it didn't work any longer.

Jackie - I had to read your message a number of times before I finally got it!  It wasn't until I looked closely at the "candles" again, that I finally got the joke.  I would have been an easy one to fool! ;D

MarsGal - I hope your dry and windy weather changes, before a serious wildfire starts.  I can relate to what that is like!  What in the world was your neighbor burning in his backyard?  We have a year-around law here in California, of no outside burning of anything, ever.

Larry - An expected high of 73 sounds very enjoyable.  I hope you feel like sitting outside for a few minutes, and enjoying the sun.  They say that sunlight can be very rejuvenating when you aren't feeling 100 per cent.  I think it's the vitamin D?

Mary Ann - Our expected high today is low 60's, with scattered showers. That's normal here for early April. AJ is meeting an old IBM friend of his for lunch today and will be gone for a couple of hours.  I doubt that I'll be leaving the house, so probably will spend my time reading, watching TV, or playing on the computer.

Mary Ann, I almost volunteered in High school to work for the Libray.  About that same time I discovered boys.  LOL  The boys won out.  LOL

Getting ready for my monthly MS social, this is the one which is 31 miles into our next county...Tonight's social is hosted by a married couple holding an annual fun bingo session, followed by our cup of tea-coffee and biscuit...Well at least it gets me out for an hour or two, three or four if we are including the car journeys and bladder emptying stop-offs en-route...

Mary Ann

Joan, at least you had your priorities straight!

Jackie, enjoy yourself at your MS social.

I was able finally to e-file my federal taxes.  However, I am not going to pay $25 to get my refund from the state, so I'll mail that in tomorrow.  I'm glad that is finally done!  My delay has not been the forms, it's due to the computer and not being able to access the Internet!  Grr!

Mary Ann, I'm still not getting the Grand Haven cam.  When I click on your new link, I only get a quick colorful flash of the lake, and then it goes to full black screen, with a little squiggly thing in the middle.  I wonder if I'm the only one, or if others are shut out as well?

FlaJean

I get the same squiggly thing, Marilyne.

I tried it from what was beneath a post and it didn't do anything, but I did get the same message I've been getting that the camera is not available.  I copied the above from a couple of posts down - see if you get something better.  I post often enough that there should be a link under each post.

Good afternoon from a basically snow-less but very windy and cool, in the late twenties, Interior!
I have a cautionary tale, sad but true...

We were playing poker for Oreos, 7 card stud and I had a string of luck like you wouldn't believe! I had 31 Oreos in my pile and wasn't above a smug look or two as others commented on my game prowess. I got so caught up in my run of good luck that I ignored the maxim that all good things come to an end and shortly lost all but two of my Oreos!   :'(

I consoled myself with the wonderful lunch Dora served even as I endured a lot of razzing about how pride comes before a fall!

I hope everyone is having as good a day as I've had and a better tomorrow!

Mary Ann

Patricia - Lesson learned?  Until the next time.

You wouldn't have wanted to eat all those Oreos anyway.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Patricia - It's been a long time since I've played poker, but used to enjoy it a lot, at group gatherings and parties.  We used to play for nickels.  I know I wasn't a very good player, because I recall that I never came home with any nickels!  I think I was too chatty, and didn't pay close enough attention to the cards played.

Mary Ann - I still cannot view the Grand Haven webcam.  I'm disappointed, because I really enjoyed looking at it. Maybe it will suddenly reappear, like it did in the past... I hope so.

Vanilla-Jackie

Patricia...
...we were playing bingo for Easter Eggs, and I won a large box at getting a full house...I'll happily swap some of my chocolate for one of your Oreos... ;)

angelface555

MaryAnn, yes I probably would have sad to say altho not immediately. Lesson learned? The house always wins! Dora took away all my Oreos or at least most.

Marilyne, we play for Oreos or something similar such as fig newtons, and it's a sporadic event. Once we played with poker chips but with those you can't eat your winnings

The guys meet once a month, and they do play for cash, but we're assured it's for small stakes. I think it's an excuse for them to have their own no females allowed, gossip and bragging night.

Jackie, next time we'll have to do that as its too late now. My two Oreos didn't make it home with me. ;)

Mary Ann

Marilyn, try this - in the top search space, type Grand Haven MI cam and if that doesn't work, try something similar.  I think you should add cam to the request.  That is how I got the link I've shown.  Right now it isn't interesting because I can't get a LIVE shot.

I've never been a poker player but I did get in a game at a work dinner.  I left when I felt I should and I was $2 in the hole.  One of the salesmen took over for me and gave me $2 the next morning, so I broke even.  I have no idea what we were playing but it had to be simple for me to join in.

I think playing with edibles is a good idea.

Mary Ann

Yes playing with edibles is a good idea, otherwise winning money is more like gambling and takes the pleasure out of a fun game, although on the positive side it does pay for the following weeks bingo which comes in handy...Our playing for money has never exceeded £17 for the full house on one particular game, ( varies less with whats in the kitty ) with smaller £4 or £5 for the line...We always have the raffle where we can have several winners, which is an edible bought from the local superstore....I came home with a fresh pineapple one week, Jaffa Cakes another week which I shared out at our table, well it was our tea break... :yum:

Edited to add: our Wednesday bingo is held in the church hall, where I am assuming all bingo money proceeds and annual membership fee go towards the church funds along with our Monday session of board games at £1 per week per person admission which includes 1 or 2 free cups of teas and biscuits...I think this is diversifying the use of their church hall...

Mary Ann

I'm up but I'm not sure I'm awake.

Jackie, many people profit from your meetings when you win food, but the store also is able to sell something and it looks like the church also gains.  After all, the church has expenses involved with meetings too

Tom is up and fixed scrambled eggs for breakfast.  I usually am not ready to eat this early but took a small amount of his eggs; I usually refuse.

Hi Everyone.  We have a beautiful and sunny morning and headed to a high in the mid to upper 70's today with no rain in the forecast until possibly late tonight. The kind lady from our Sunday School class did bring by the Wednesday night dinners of fried chicken, salad, French fries and a thin but rich dessert.  Two pieces of chicken were on each dinner so I had the wing, 3 French fries, a little of the salad and the dessert.  I gave the rest of the dinner to Scott and Pat had put one piece of her chicken on Scott plate.  The girls were here but they had eaten before they got here to I reimbursed them for the cost of their dinners as it was no more than what it would have been had we taken them out to eat.  There are only two more Wednesday night dinners in May and then the meals will stop for the summer.  I can go online and pay for the dinners.

I think Scott discovered the problem with Pat's computers that wouldn't connect or stay connected to the Internet.  It had to do with the IP address and rather than one that changes he put in a static one.  He was also able to figure out how to get the games downloaded that Pat had paid for over the years.  Obviously we were happy happy as that takes a big weight off my shoulders thinking I would need to restore the computer to factory condition.  He will be out again this afternoon and will do the same adjustment to the other laptop.

When I made my Camomile tea last night I noticed it was very dark and had a different flavor.  When I finished I discovered that Pat had not removed the coffee pod from yesterday morning so I had a blend of decaf coffee and tea.  I would usually notice this before I start the coffee pot to dispense the hot water but had not.  We had a good laugh over this unimportant oversight by both of us and I will be more careful in the future.  After I finished the tea I had a great night's sleep.

Marilyne, I didn't sit out yesterday as Scott didn't have time to get the porch and furniture out their washed off of the pollen.  I am sure he will attend to that when he is here this afternoon.

Joan, a few years ago I considered volunteering for the our local library until I found out all of the requirements they had and what I would have to go through for an unpaid job. I would have enjoyed it as handling books was always something I enjoyed.

Mary Ann, glad you got your taxes filed or ready to file.

Patricia, you probably did yourself a favor by losing most of your Oreos.  I tried to play poker one time and shortly lost the $5 I had been willing to lost and left the game and vowed not to play again and haven't.  I worked to hard for my money and at that time had a young family to support which was more important to me.

Jackie, I see those Easter eggs were chocolate rather than real eggs.  When we were playing bridge rather than have some prize that really no one wanted and required buying something, we decided to put in $1 each at the beginning and that turned out to be the prize.
