some great links here!  Thanks Angel.

Patricia, Kendrick does not get people food.  I have not noticed him begging for any when I am eating.  I do give him a very little milk when I am finished eating my cereal and I don't eat cereal every day.  I just can't believe people give their cats things like garlic and onions.

I refill his dish at night and he's usually anxious to have some then, otherwise, he eats during the day whenever he wants to.  He always has some food left in his dish and he doesn't know it, but I put that uneaten food (dry) back in the bag and dish out new from the bag.

MaryAnn, some folks are crazy like Hal from Texas who used to season his boxer, Lady's food!

Many folks say they've done crazy things to and for their pets and say that pet lived X number of years, so not everyone listens. Some folks have never taken their pet to a vet saying it's not necessary.

Farrah is still getting 1/2 cup of quality diet kibble daily and has only lost the original one-half pound.

Marilyne

Of all the pets - (dogs and cats) - that we have had over the years, we never gave "people food" or table scraps, to any of them.  We were advised by a vet, early on, to only give the canned or kibble pet food. He did say that dogs benefit from a couple of spoonfuls of low-fat cottage cheese added to their kibble about once a week.  Supposed to be good for digestive health?  That's probably one that has been discredited by now??  It's been a LONG time since we were given that advice!  I notice that some cat owners in other folders here in S&F, give their cats and dogs, "people food" like chicken, beef and such.

so_P_bubble

Well, my pets in Congo ate exclusively human food,  Very simple: there did not exist "pet food" there.  But I can attest that they were very healthy, full of life and lived a long happy life. The same for the dog that I had here when my kids were small.  When we got a cat later on, he was fed dry cat food that became available, but supplemented by grilled fish when we ate that.

Marilyn

I cook for Freckles and supplement that once a day with ½ cup  dry dog food. I use, 99% fat free ground turkey, gizzards and hearts chicken ground up in the food processor, Peas and carrots, blueberries, dried cranberries, chopped spinach and  sweet potatoes. Sh also gets a pet vitamin for senior dogs.

Right now she is over weight, so I am putting her on a diet. No more rice and only 1 treat per day. She is 10 yrs old now and has some arthritis in her spine.  On  disk is disintegrating in the middle of her back and one more down by her hips. She is on pain meds and bed rest this week, goes back in Monday and will possibly start acupuncture. She also has a rging ear infection in both ears.

What did a Scottish dog look like 4,500 years ago?

Marilyne

Marilyn - You take wonderful care of Freckles!  Preparing her special dog food takes lots of time and attention.  I know I wouldn't have the patience to keep it up. I'm really curious as to the acupuncture for dogs? I'm surprised that a dog would cooperate, and stay still long enough?  I had a series of acupuncture treatments about twenty years ago, and for me, they were not pain free. Maybe they have improved since then?

Patricia - The picture of the dog, reconstructed from the remains discovered in the tomb, is fascinating.  I's hard to wrap your mind around 4,500 years ago!  :yikes:

Marilyn

I discovered that Australian cattle dogs  consist of that Scottish dog, Dingo and Dalmation Interesting, Yes

Marilyn

Next Tuesday Freckles will be starting Cold laser therapy and acupuncture for her back.

angelface555

Marilyn, I hope all goes well with Freckles on her treatments next week, It sounds like she is getting the best care possible.

Marilyn

She certainly is Patricia. She is a very special dog.

County vets go to a wolf preserve and meet their first hyena.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73V3L0Tsx5o

Mary Ann

Patricia, I don't think I'd like a hyena for a pet, but it was interesting to see them interact with humans.  The blue hair was also interesting; it takes all kinds.

Mary Ann

angelface555

That seems to be popular here as well. MaryAnn, in the teens to thirties in both male and female.

Marilyne

I just watched the video, and it did make me feel a little uncomfortable. I didn't like that bare ugly enclosure. It didn't seem right, that there was nothing in there except for a bucket of water.  What if it happens to be a hot day? No shade . . . no trees, no interaction with other animals, no place to lie down. It looked like the wolf, was in the same type of bleak enclosure?   What are they there for?  What's the purpose?  The sound only YouTube, is very poor quality, so I couldn't hear what the owners/keepers were saying?  I could hear the vets reasonably well, when they were talking in the office, but I couldn't understand anything that was said by the owners.
(The blue hair is also a trendy thing here in California.)

angelface555

Evidently it is a holding area for wild animals to be seen to for medical or other reasons. The couple owns or runs the holding area, and the vets visited because there must be an assigned vet on record for each animal to allow a license to care for that animal. The areas are not permanent enclosures.

From the Spruce Pets; "How to Stop Cats From Pooping on Rugs

Is your cat pooping on the rug instead of in the litter box? When litter-trained cats poop outside the box, it's called inappropriate elimination. This frustrating behavior can be difficult for cat owners to manage. The key to solving the problem, though, is figuring out why your cat is pooping on the rug or other inappropriate places.

Why Do Cats Poop on Rugs?
Out of all the places in a home, it seems that rugs are popular targets for inappropriate elimination. There's something about that soft fabric that attracts cats. Perhaps it's the fact that rugs are easy to knead and paw at like litter, or maybe it's the scent. You may never know for sure why your cat seems to prefer the rug, but many cat owners report this same issue."

Mother and five black bear cubs take a dip in a family's pool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77dtqOOaGLo

Marilyne

Love the bear video. I read the comments below, and apparently lots viewers were upset by the dialogue from the family? My sound  on any YouTube video is very poor quality - muffled and illegible, so I couldn't hear what they had to say?   Does it say where this video was filmed?

angelface555

It doesn't say where but it was filmed from an upstairs window and the boy and girl but especially the little girl was distraught that the pool toys were torn up and that the pool itself would need to be replaced. The adults were enjoying it as a teaching/nature tool. I never read comments as they are usually from trolls or someone wanting to complain.

Mary Ann

I thought the videos were very entertaining.

Mary Ann

Patricia and Bubble, that video was great.  The photographers had to be in the right place at the right time.

Patricia, is the foster kitty home back in operation?  Or has he closed up shop.

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, he and his son and his girlfriend, (Who happens to have her own cat rescue/foster video site.); have been engaged in a whole house reno. He hopes to be nearing the end and back in operation soon. I'll post again as soon as I hear anything.
