Good morning from a sunny Interior! I've added opening the balcony door and just using the screen door to my more enjoyable morning routine. However, this does mean I hear the railroad whistles and track clicks along with the Carillion's music selections and thirty and sixty minute hourly tones.

We are in the mid to upper seventies with lows in the middle to high sixties, so the weather here in the forest is good. I'm hoping after three rainy summers that this one will be warm altho that includes the fires, unfortunately.

Larry, it was beautiful to see your long post, and I'll bet hospice has taken some of your worries away, and that alone will help your health besides improving your life!

Johann, it is always a pleasure to see your posts and know how you're doing and with Windell.

Farrah has changed so much these past few years. Unfortunately, once she sees me sitting down at the computer, she makes a beeline to sprawl in front of me, and I end up holding the wireless keyboard and typing above her sprawled form.

I love looking at houses here and around the world. I suppose it is a fantasy escape and I become, in my mind, a hunter for what I like regardless of any actual limitations I have, It is, after all, a fantasy.

Good morning and day to all who visit today!

Sandy

I just got back from
having my chest xray and barium swallow...

The barium swallow looked very
good...   They were pleased with that.
I will hear about the lung xray later.

It was a simple one.  not too complicated.
Just two shots.   So I will be waiting to hear.

I am feeling good.  I walked back from
Maine Medical Center instead of taking the
bus which I would have had to wait for,
for 25 minutes.   Walking was quicker.

Have  a good day,  everyone.

Tomereader, you ask more questions than I can answer and I'm not sure where you can get the answers.  It you click on HOME on the Duluth site, you may be able to ask the questions there.  Joy wrote to them about seeing something on one of the sites and she got a response, so you might try it.

Patricia (Angelface) gave you several cam links, including the Duluth site.  I'll give you a few more, all ship sites.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-84.334/centery:46.503/zoom:13

This site is for the Soo locks in Sault Ste Marie MI.  All ships that start in Duluth, Superior or ports in that area, must go through the Soo locks to get to ports along Lake Huron and south and east; there is no other shipping route.

https://www.9and10news.com/weather/live-skycams/sault-st-marie-cam/

This site is where the camera is located at the Soo; it is a restaurant across from the lock area.  There has been a different view but it hasn't been shown for some time.  That one shows the ships in the locks themselves and shows the ships going up to align with Lake Superior or down to align with Lake Huron.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-82.3/centery:42.8/zoom:10

This has become a very popular choice to view as the ships go past Marine City MI and the camera pans along the route, sometimes very close to the ship.  Not only can you read the name clearly at times, you can see some of the workings of the ships.  Marine City is located on the St Clair River which is on the border of the US and Canada.  Looking out at Marine City, what you see across the river is Canada.

http://porthuroncam.com/

Port Huron is the US start of the Blue Water Bridge which goes to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.  The Blue Water Bridge crosses the St Clair River that is the border between the US and Canada.  Beautiful bridge.

This may be more than you want so you can disregard what you don't want.

Mary Ann

Tomereader1

Thank you, Mary Ann and AngelFace for the links.  Gee, now I will get nothing done but look at ships coming in.  Wish I could see one or more in person! Don't think I'll every get that far up in our beautiful country. Thanks again.

It continued to be dreary and rained off and on all day, but it appears there is no snow in the near future! 🥰🥰🦋

LARRY, I really liked what I read today in your post.  I am sure you felt quite relieved after knowing the facts about being in Hospice.   I sure appreciate you sharing this information with us and hope you will continue to do so in the future.

Best of luck with your health tests today, SANDY.  I do hope you epsilon ge5 a good report.

Pools were scheduled to open this weekend, but due to the recent snow and cold temperatures they all seem to be on hold.  Many of the mountain passes and camp grounds will also remain closed.  The amounts of snow pack have all surpassed many yearly averages and now the discussion of flooding is beginning.

We did not go pick up the children today....Michele felt she could do it, so that is a positive step today.  It is a good thing it worked out that way as we both are feeling a bit under the weather.  Bob is coughing badly and feels like he has a cold....AND he woke up with pain in the big toe of his foot, so another gout attack has started.  He did get a prescription from the doctor to try the next time he has an attack, so he took the pills and he thinks it is feeling better. I hope it works.... We will see.

It is starting to rain again, so we continue with lower temps and moisture tonight...we must not complain but the snow sure did a lot of damage to many trees in its path.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Jenny, that sounds like good news about Michele.

Mary Ann

Larry, you sounded so pleased with Hospice and gave such a good description of the services you will receive, that I copied your post and sent it to Terry's widow who has been a Hospice nurse.  Below is what she replied.

Thank you for the information about hospice – – your friend understood everything correctly. It is a wonderful program.

Jan is now leaving Hospice.  She has been with the program for several years and even headed one of the programs.  Her parents both are declining in health and she has been living with them (or vice versa).  She has had a nephew helping when she has been at work but caring for her folks and being with ill people is more than she can take at the present time.  She has accepted a job with Spectrum Hospital as a triage nurse and she is quite enthusiastic about the new responsibilities.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Jenny, it is nice that Michele felt able to pick up the kids and I'll bet they were glad to see her, too.  Maybe the rest over the weekend will help her.

I doubt we'll do anything over the weekend, or at least I will not.  Tom has a lot of friends and I'm sure he'll make contact, especially if one has a boat.  On the other hand, he has Meniere's disease and is not comfortable on a boat; he gets dizzy.

Mary Ann

Good Morning Everyone,
from the Sunny and still cool rocky
coast of Maine.  Nice comfortable
weather.

I got through my tests yesterday at
the hospital..   The barium swallow
turned out very good.  I am waiting on
the results of the chest xray.  Not too
worried as they didn't seem to be.

So that is it for testing for me for
a while.  I do still have blood work
done monthy or weekly but that is for
my own safety and certainly worth
the effort, IMHO.

I am back on a Weight Watchers now
along with intermittent fasting..
(I eat from 11 AM to 7 PM while folllowing
WW..)   This is the only way that I
can lose weight.

But unfortunately,  if I resort to free style
eating I will put weight on.  So I
will always have to be aware of what
I am consuming.    I really want to spend
my last years at a more normal
weight for my age and height.

Such is life.
I am very grateful that I am  in
great shape for the shape I am in.

Hi Everyone. It has been a rather difficult morning as very short of breath.  I will be getting medical equipment, including  a wheelchair, which should make it easier to get around in the house.  I am so happy I signed up with Hospice on Tuesday as they have been so responsive and caring.  Yesterday afternoon the social worker was here and besides the delivery of the medical equipment, someone else is coming by today and I think it is the Chaplain.  I was very touched yesterday when the Social worker told me she and the Chaplain had already discussed finding a way to get me back to Church, although I am going to have to get to feeling better before I would considerate it.  Yesterday morning one of the ministers from my Church for a short visit.  Last evening when the girls and Scott were here I told them I was now under Hospice Care.  I hope they deliver the new medicine they are putting me on which is suppose to help me get a little more energy and start to get some of this fluid off my body which is causing such shortness of breath.  Fortunately typing doesn't take much energy.

I have just now read all the new postings from yesterday and up to date today.  I thought of many comments I would like to make to each of you as I read but honestly just don't have the energy to do so.  I am sure glad my comments on Hospice help to spread the word. They would have been so helpful to Scott had he known about them but none of her doctors apparently suggested it.  I was fortunate to have a wonderful doctor who sensed that now was the right time to mention Hospice to me even though she will no longer have me for a patient. Mary Ann, your cherry tart story gave me chuckles which probably did more for me that the handful of pills I took this morning.

Joy

Good morning.  A partly sunny morning, and they are calling for bad thunderstorms later today in some areas.  Will just have to wait and see it our area is affected.

Jenny, it was nice to read your message about Michele feeling well enough to pick up the children from school.  I am sure it made her feel good and I know the children were glad to see her.  Hopefully, your husband will feel better and you all can enjoy a nice holiday week end.

Sandy, glad you made out good with your tests.  Sounds like the chest x-ray will be ok, also.

Nothing special going on in my little corner. Too early for any new news !!!

I was hoping to see another long message from Larry.  Sure hope he is feeling lots better this morning.

I need to get on with the day. I want to make a pie a little later today. But, need to get dressed and do a couple little chores.  I have been on the computer for a little too long already.  I do try to limit my time.

I do hope everyone will have a nice day.

Larry, I'm glad my cherry pie story helped you feel better!  My niece, Jan, was very impressed by your description of your Hospice plans.  She will leave her Hospice job at the end of the month because having care of her parents and Hospice patients is becoming too much for her.  Her father is 88 and in very bad health and she shares a house with her parents.  Both parents have dementia but her mother is in better physical health.  She is able to call on nephews to stay with them when necessary.

Tom is teaching today at an aviation school at the airport.  He came home from breakfast a while ago and has until 11:30 when he must leave for the school.  The airport is about 15-20 miles from here and his teachings have been in our area.  A friend works for this aviation school and that is why Tom is straying so far from home.

We had a good storm overnight.  The cat was on my bed when one crack sounded and he kind of jumped.  I told him it was OK and he settled down for a few moments but then got up to go downstairs where he wouldn't hear so much.  Ordinarily storms don't bother him because I've been in the living area in daytime and he hasn't flinched  I like storms.

Our lawn mowers are here this morning.  I thought they might delay a bit and I guess they did because I didn't hear them before I got up at 8 am.  We've had the same crew for many years and we've gotten to know them.

Good morning everyone and its another quiet day here.

Marilyne

Jenny  - So good to hear that Michele felt well enough that she wanted to pick up the kids at school.  Little accomplishments like that help her to slowly regain her strength and her hope.
How is your father doing?  I hope the back pain has subsided, and he can now be up and around a little bit better?  I remember when my father had lots of health problems toward the end.  It's so hard to deal with, when you are 400 miles apart!

Sounds like Bob has gout again.  One of those painful health problems, that seems to always reappear! I remember when my Dad had gout, that he was told to eat cherries - fresh, canned or frozen.  It's been so long ago, that I don't remember if it helped much or not?  Anyway, fresh cherries are available now, so I hope he likes them?

Larry - you have such a  great  attitude, which goes a long way, in helping you to deal with your health, and to feel better.  I agree that having a good laugh sometimes, is a boost to your immune system.  There are lots of good comedy shows on on TV that you might enjoy.  I don't care for the ones featuring wise-cracking kids, and lots of off=color humor, but there  are others that are just plain funny.  As you mentioned, the old Carol Burnett show is available on some of the retro channels, and it is filled with hilarious skits and great comedians.

Joy - Speaking of cherries - good to see that you feel like making a cherry pie!  I love them, but haven't made one in many years. My favorite pie was always lemon meringue, but haven't made one of those either, in a long time.  My electric mixer broke many years ago, and I never replaced it.  I need those beaters for the meringue!

Mary Ann - It's interesting that Tom is teaching at the airport today, at an aviation school.  That would be a very different class to teach, where he would learn things himself, that he never knew before?

Your mention of Kendrick, reminds me that there was a sighting of a large mountain lion, (cougar), a couple of nights ago, right here in town, near my neighborhood!  a family was watching TV, when their dog started barking at the glass slider door.  They looked up, and there was a full grown lion, looking into the house.  He quickly turned and left, but their outside surveillance camera got a good picture of him!  it was shown on my Next Door, and also on the local evening news, the following night.  So - people are really nervous about letting their dogs into the back yard, or going for walks at night when it's dark.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, the aviation school has been near the airport for years but I don't remember what it teaches.  Not pilots!  It might teach what goes into a plane and how to fix wrongs.  Tom really isn't trained for any of the classes he teaches and almost all of the teachers leave a plan for him to follow.  He can help with math.  Sub teachers are kind of glorified baby sitters and there to maintain discipline.

I've just finished my lunch - half a ham slice and some peas.  Tom said he'd be home before suppertime so he may fix our supper.

Kendrick would like me to go out on the deck with him.  He doesn't do much but he likes it better when I go out too.  I put on dark glasses and just sit there while he noses around.

Kendrick isn't quite the size of a mountain lion but he is big for a house cat.  When I pet him I realize how large he is.  Stretched out, paws to tail, I think he's 3.5 to 4 feet long.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Anybody home this morning?  I did realize that my clock is on Standard time here, so my post of 12:42 PM yesterday was actually at 1:42 pm.  Still, that is about 22 hours ago.  I wonder where Larry is since he often posts first in the morning.  I think he said he might post later in the day.

It started to rain slightly a while ago.  I don't know if it's continued because I have not gotten up to check.  Tom went out for breakfast and will leave shortly for the Skill Center where he will be today until late afternoon.  Yesterday at the aviation school there were only a few students because the seniors were not there since it is so close to the end of the school year.

I've watched several ships go through the locks and the St Clair River.  Paul went under the Blue Water Bridge and a green ship came north from Lake St Clair, called the Greenwing.  That was a new ship for me.

I think I'll see what I can find to eat.

Mary Ann

Joy

Mary Ann, I was here earlier and wondered where everyone was.  So glad to see that you haven got the
"ball rolling".

I, too, was wondering about Larry.  I do hope he is doing ok this morning.

I was up early and it was so chilly in my  place, that I bundled up in my fleece cover and tried to go back to sleep.  But, didn't happen so I finally got up.

I need to do some laundry later today and that is about all I have planned for today.

Marilyne, I had to go back and try to find where I had mentioned making a cherry pie???  I did say something about making a pie yesterday, but I was sure I didn't mention a "cherry pie" as I am not areal crazy about cherry pie.  I did make a lemon custard pie.  I did use the egg whites to try to make meringue, but not sure why it wouldn't get thick.  So, I had a meringue=less lemon pie.  It is really good in spite of not having the topping.  I used a small casserole dish and it is just a good size for 1 person.  I always used My-T-Fine lemon pie filling mix, but that doesn't seem to be available anymore. So, it was an off-brand and is very good. I like it even better.  Since the dish I used was only about 5 in. in diameter, the filling is thicker than a standard pie plate.  And, it won't last too long.

Getting onto lunch time,  I have some left-over chicken from the rotisserie chicken I got the other day, so I plan on making some chicken salad.  That will make a couple nice sandwiches.

I hope everyone will have a great Friday afternoon.  Our weather man has predicted a beautiful Memorial Day week end.  Maybe some scattered showers, but not until late on Monday.  It is about time that we had a nice weekend.

Joy

I did go back and see that Mary Ann had made mention of a cherry pie that she made one time and forgot to add the sugar with the tart cherries.  Funny story !!!.

MarsGal

I'm here Mary Ann. I just finished lunch after mowing the front yard this morning.

Also, I did get to see the Paul going up river at Marine City this morning. What a sight. When I first checked the web feed the early morning sky was a pretty peach and the water was almost as smooth as glass. After checking on what traffic to expect, I went off to other things for a while before coming back to the webcam. By then the sun was fully up, but still very low in the sky. What a lovely sight to see the Paul with the early morning sun in the background. BTW, yesterday I finally get to see the State of Michigan (Marine Academy training vessel) after trying to catch it the last few days. It looks like it has been doing at least two trips a day down and back up the St. Clair River for the last three or so days.

I may have to put the air conditioning on this afternoon. It has been really nice out this morning though.

Marilyne

Good morning Mary Ann!  Yes, it's funny how you feel kind of intimidated, when you look in and see that it's been almost 24 hours since anyone posted here!  I'm used to always seeing a message from Larry, when I look in for the first time, and usually one from you too.  So I have a feeling that today is going to be a slow day?

I wish I could say something interesting, to perk things up, but I'm afraid it's the same old boring stuff going on here.  The weekend, (which now includes Friday?), is usually very quiet here in S&F.  Long holiday weekends are especially slow.  We will probably go to the cemetery in San Jose on Monday, and leave some flowers on the gravesites of AJ's parents and brother.  There are many separate military memorials that take place there at the different sections of the cemetery.  World War II, Vietnam, and the Civil War, are the most elaborate.

I'll now take a look at the many webcams that I have here on my desktop, and hope to see lots of boats on all of them, over this long weekend.

Hi Mars Gal - We were posting at the same time!

angelface555

Good morning from a still quite warm but rainy for the second day Interior! MarsGal, thanks for explaining about the "State of Michigan" as I saw that too and was puzzled.

I spent yesterday afternoon reading and resting and will probably do the same today. I have an issue with Farrah in that the moment I sit at the computer, she rushes over and lays on my keyboard. I'm too soft on her to yell. I end up holding the keyboard in hand and typing that way.

I saw in my weather app that this is another storm and another round for this week in the lower 48 states and possibly going into the third week. I hope they have it wrong because the effects as the systems move Eastward are already terrible.

I too hope we hear frrom Larry soon altho he might just be busy.

"Man says an intruder broke into his house, cleaned it and left
Lauren M Johnson
By Lauren M. Johnson, CNN

home intruder cleans house Boston

(CNN)A Boston area man came home from work with his son to find something amiss.

He thought that maybe they had been robbed. But upon further inspection, he discovered that nothing was missing and his home was sparkling clean.
Nate Roman lives in a single-family home in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Roman tells CNN he left for work the morning of May 15 and came home from picking up his son to find his door was unlocked.

"[My son said], 'Dad! The door is unlocked.' Which I have done once every blue moon and didn't think anything of it. But when we walked in immediately there was a vibe that something was wrong in the house."
He realized that someone may have been in his home because a door he normally keeps open was firmly shut. Roman then went upstairs to check the rest of the house.
He discovered his son's room, which was a wreck when they left that morning, was neat as a pin. He found his room in the same pristine condition

The son's room, messy in the morning, was found neat and clean.
"Rugs were vacuumed, everything was neat and put away," Roman said.
He immediately called the police, and they took the incident very seriously. They cleared the house to make sure no one was still there.

Police told CNN affiliate WBZ-TV that they spoke with the neighbors and no one saw anything suspicious. There are no suspects.
"No crime happened, nothing was missing or damaged, so the police have very little to go on," Roman said.
The security system was also not set so cameras that would be activated when the alarm goes off did not get images of the intruder. The time stamp on the door sensors indicated that whoever it was stayed in the house for about 90 minutes.

Later, he discovered roses made from toilet paper in the bathroom, a detail that made him realize this was probably the work of a professional. His theory is that a cleaning service came to the wrong address, but his kitchen was untouched which makes him second guess his suspicion.
He has since changed his locks and admits that he is still opening cabinets very carefully in case something unexpected was left behind.
Roman is hoping to move past the ordeal, but he did keep the toilet paper roses as a souvenir.

Mary Ann

Patricia, what a nice "clean" story.  I wish that would happen here, even if I was home.  I will say I am happy to have Robin come to clean every two weeks and she does a very good job.

I had something I was going to mention; I thought of it while I was getting dressed this morning.  Now I can't remember what it was about.  Do you think I'm getting old?

I'm trying to decide what to have for breakfast/brunch.  I think it is going to be another eggless benedict because that's about all there is in the refrigerator.  I do have frozen dinners, but not for breakfast!

The State of Michigan vessel is a training ship.  When I have that site on "full screen" there is some chat below the screen (Marilyn gets her chat beside the screen) and the people there often tell about the ships, especially when they are new to the area.

At 1 pm, our temp is just about 60 degrees and that is too cold to sit on the deck.  I am not sure it is raining or not but even so, it is too cold.  I think even Kendrick would not like to be out there.

Mary Ann

Thanks MaryAnn, I did wonder about the vessel. Between Farrah and my arthritis, I don't do much on the computer presently but hope to be back soon. The doctors say most meds for it are too strong and the Tylenol doesn't help that much anymore.

We are presently at plus 63, moving toward a high of 76. Yesterday we had plus 74 and pouring rain!?! I went out to my balcony anyway and sat for a while. Farrah, as usual, wanted no part of the outside altho she set inside on that top shelf.

In the story, it sounds as if the guy was a bit of a slob and perhaps a "friend" as a prank, cleaned his house and now is too frightened to come forward?

Larry Hanna...
...you haven't posted today, is this because you have been busy or is it because you have been poorly today?
I notice you haven't shown in...and that is unusual for you...

Mary Ann

Patricia, I take Tylenol 650 for the arthritis in my right shoulder.  I won't say it doesn't help at all, but it doesn't help the way aspirin did.  Because I am on a blood thinner (Eliquis), I cannot take aspirin.  That's the only pain killer I take.

For a forecast of 70+ the next seven days, I don't think we'll make it today.  At 4:30 it is only 61 degrees and here it is near the end of May and our heat was on today.

Mary Ann

larryhanna

angelface555

Hi Larry, hope tomorrow is calmer!

MaryAnn, it is the Tylenol 650 that is not really working for me any longer, and other meds either have no effect or upset my stomach. Of course, since the doctor doesn't have it, he isn't that keen on other methods.

Johann Mc

Hope Larry is doing OK.  I know it must have been a relief to know that someone would be there to help him when he needs it. DeAngel (Gloria) is also under hospice care at home. I saw where she had mentioned it in the Soda Shop and I called her this week.  She was very upbeat and feels so good about knowing that someone is there to check on her.  A lot of us are getting to the place that we need to be sure we have some sort of back  up help with either family or a helping agency. Windell is almost blind and almost deaf now and communication is getting very difficult for him.  He watches sports on TV most of the time but has trouble reading the scores at the bottom of the screen.  There is always a big McCrackin reunion on the other side of our county on the first Saturday in June and we are going to celebrate his 90th birthday at the reunion next Saturday, June 1st.  That way his nephews and nieces and cousins will get to celebrate with us and our children always go to that.

We are supposed to go to a Sons of the American Revolution luncheon tomorrow and I hope he feels like going because they are always so welcoming and glad to see him. He wrote the legal charter for this chapter here about 50 years ago and they gave him an award last year for faithful service.

I had a physical about a month ago and the internist said that my EKG was perfect.  My blood pressure is also lower these days in spite of the stress of caregiving.  I have some arthritis in my left shoulder and left knee that affect my mobility some and really bothers me in damp weather.  I also don't have as much energy and I need but the doctor said that I am "holding my own" so that's good I guess. ::) Mary Ann, I take 650 Tylenol twice a day, too.  I'm allergic to aspirin and the other NSAIDS.

Angelface, it will be time for your summer solstice celebration in about a month.  Hope your weather is good.

Jenny, hope that Michele continues to feel better, but I'm sure there will still be good days and bad days for her.  Bless her heart!

Larry, going to be thinking of you and Pat in my prayers!  You're a real trooper!

All of you have a good weekend!
Johann

Mary Ann

#13589
Johann, you can tell when we're getting old when so many of us have the same ailments!  I have arthritis in my right shoulder which is why I take Tylenol 650 but I also have arthritis in both knees and it is hard to walk any distance and I don't do stairs unless absolutely necessary.  Tom would rather that I not use stairs and I don't want him to come home and find me at the foot of the stairs.  I haven't even been walking across the road to the mailbox and that was the only exercise I got.

Tom comes home from sub teaching and often is too tired to fix supper so he suggests eating out, as he did tonight.  We don't eat much, usually just a sandwich, which is what I had tonight.  Tom had a sandwich but I don't remember what kind.  Mine was a hot club sandwich with ham and turkey.  Instead of fries, I had cottage cheese.  Tom had cole slaw.  We don't spend much, no coffee or soft drink, just water with a lemon.

I'm watching golf until 7 pm and I'm amazed at the scores.  After two days, Fowler is +3, other "good" golfers are over par; it must be a difficult course.  They just showed the leaderboard and there are many scores under par so it looks like it is the golfers and not the course.

I had Tom get some "picnic" foods for me for the weekend.  I doubt I'll do anything and Tom probably will be with friends, so I'll boil a potato and make a small potato salad, fix a hamburger patty or chop it up for Sloppy Joe, boil an egg to make a deviled egg - or slice the egg onto the salad.  Nothing fancy.

Mary Ann
