Just lost a post, so I'll just thank y'all for the reassuring words. I think we're pretty well back to normal.
Our Sadé is suffering from bug bites and serious hair loss, but truly does not want to come in the house, so I'll just comb her and love her 'til the season's over.

It's 11:45 am here - where is everyone?

Sasha, is Sade primarily an outside cat?  Kendrick very seldom goes outside and then mostly to the deck where he eats his grass.  Birds have built a nest on the underpinnings of the deck and he hears them but he can't do a thing about them.

I saw my first ships go past Algonac a while ago.  It has been very foggy on the St Clair River, more so than on this side of the state.  If I want to time things now, I can see a ship come in at Port Huron, see it later at Marine City and a short time later see it at Algonac.  While I am a "lady of leisure", I don't feel I have enough time to do that.  There already are too many ship sites for me to watch.

Last night I looked out at my garage and could see that the overhead door was open.  I was expecting Tom, but he didn't come in.  I have an extra garage door opener, so I closed the door.  It was a long time before Tom did come in and he told me he had been on the phone with a friend, her husband and her mother.  It didn't dawn on me then that he had been on the phone in the garage.  This morning I asked him if he was in the garage then and he said yes.  I told him I was sorry I had closed the door on him.  There is a window in the garage and it was daylight yet so he wasn't in the dark, however, that would not have bothered him.

Tom will be gone much of the day; I can't slow him down!  He is the only one who can do that.  He has a meeting, a session at the Health Center, then meeting Mary in Grand Rapids for a change (Mary lives in Holland).

I've had kind of a breakfast but now I think I'll get dressed and finish up the stir-fry that Annie brought the other night.  I should do something other than compute, but computing is more interesting.

MarsGal

No fracture, Marilyne, but the Radiologist did report that I have Osteoporosis in my foot. Odd, my last DEX scan, not so long ago, still showed me at .1 over Osteopenia. So, how did I manage to go directly to Osteoporosis? Now I am going to have to look all this stuff up. The doctor didn't suggest I start on Osteoporosis medicine, just to take (which I have been for over a year) calcium, D3 daily, and Advil if needed. My Gynecologist is the that told me to start on the Vitamins and orders the DEX, so when I see him next I will discuss this with him. Meanwhile, I have to get off my butt and go shoe shopping. I do need a really good pair of walking shoes and something better than what I have now for the yard work.

I haven't seen any of the big ships at Algonac yet, but thought the ferry a rather curious site. It is a lot different than the big ones I see at Molde and other sites. The fog at Algonac was low above the river when I watched last evening. Early this morning I could just make out a ship at Port Huron until it passed the bridge because of the fog. Did you see that the lights along the river front at Algonac are solar powered? Pretty neat.

The organic strawberries I bought at the store the other day are the best I've had since I grew my own.

Marilyne

MarsGal - Glad you don't have any broken bones!  I also have osteoporosis, but I think it's inevitable for aging women. I'm small boned, so that adds to the probability.  I also take calcium and D3, which is enough for me.  Please, let me know what brand/style of shoes you purchased for walking?  I'm having a bad time with my feet, and can't seem to find a pair of shoes that fit right and are comfortable.  Right now, AJ is taking my latest purchase back to the UPS store for return.  Fortunately, Zappos, gives free return postage, if shoes don't fit, so I use them a lot.

Mary Ann - That is a funny story, about you closing the garage door on Tom!  ;D  It's good thing he had his own door opener I guess. Although it he didn't, I guess he could have called you. ha ha!
Yesterday, I went to Whole Foods, and got a four-pack of muffins. I didn't realize they were so big, until I ate one this morning.  Very heavy - I think they're bran muffins, with raisins, nuts, shredded carrots, etc.  I had one, and I feel like I just ate a loaf of bread.  I doubt that I'll be interested in food again, until dinner this evening.

Mary Ann

#14134
Marilyn, your muffin sounds like a Morning Glory muffin which is very filling.  I have not had one in a long time, but I like them.  Cut one in two if they're too much for you.

I also have osteoporosis, but in my back.  I am bent over about as soon as I stand up and it's a trial to stand straight.  That is why I don't walk far.

My feet are OK but I do have neuropathy in my feet and lower legs.  My problem isn't as severe as Norm's was where he had little or no feeling from his knees down and he felt like he was walking on broken glass.  I get electric shocks in bed, but during the day, I have no pain.  I wear Hush Puppy shoes (made in Rockford MI about 5 miles north of me).  I have a pair of SAS shoes that are comfortable; I don't wear them now, probably because I bought the Hush Puppy and started wearing them.  You can get the Hush Puppy shoes from Amazon but I don't know about their return policy - Tom takes care of ordering and returning (if necessary).  One style I have is Bounce (I'm on my third pair) and another is a walking shoe but I don't now the style name (second pair of them).

MarsGal, it certainly was foggy all along the St Clair River this morning.  I think I saw at least four ships going in either direction today.  I wanted to see where the ships enter the Algonac area and found that.

The ferries at Algonac go between Algonac and Walpole Island (Canada).  People would like a ferry at Marine City but the excuse seems to be no one for customs.  I think Canadian custom people are around a lot on the water in case someone fishes on the wrong side of the buoys.  It is similar to our Coast Guard.

No Larry yet, did I miss something?

Mary Ann

Tomereader1

I have the SAS shoes, while they are pricey, about the only place I can get shoes that fit...I wear a 4 1/2 or 5 depending on style.  I had a pair that i only threw away last year that were over 15 yrs old.

Mary Ann

Tomereader, that is a good recommendation for any brand shoe.  I have had to throw away two pair of the Hush Puppy shoes, but both were old, maybe as old as yours, because the sole split in a way that could not be fixed.

Sasha

Mary Ann, yes, being outside is Sadé's choice; we have a very active cat door right beside the front door. Only Cree and Mariah want to be in in the summer; Java is in and out ALL day long, and prefers that we open the big door for her. Toot likes to be in at night and out the window (don't ask) come 5 am. Boomer shows up for a meal and occasionally a treat; Midi has acquiesced to our request that she live on the front porch (she refuses to be housebroken), so she comes in only when machines get loud or a vehicle comes up the driveway. Right now tomorrow's planes are rehearsing right over us, so she's under a bed. Frankly, I'd like to join her.

You see? Having 7 means that talking about your cats produces a book-length post.
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
- Albert Einstein

Marilyne

Sasha - We like book-length messages, and always enjoy hearing about your menagerie! :D  It sounds like each cat has his/her own personal agenda. I have always visualized your place, with a backyard enclosure, and a pet door to access the house if desired.  Does Midi, stay on the front porch and yard, or does she visit around the neighborhood?

Mary Ann - I'm sure I probably have osteoporosis in my spine also. I can't stand up straight anymore, or walk without being bent over. I try, but I just cannot manage it.  My back is not painful, (yet), but I do have problems in my legs, knees and feet.  I looked at the Hush Puppy website, and see that they have a good selection of comfortable looking styles.  The only problem I see for me, is that I have to have a narrow width, and it doesn't look like HP's come in narrow.  I'll check Zappos, and if they carry that brand, I might order a pair in the medium, just to see how they fit.  Free shipping and free return from that online store.

Tome - I've worn SAS for at least 25 years.  Yes, they are pricey, but worth the cost . . . and they come in narrow width!  The last few pairs I've ordered from Zappos, have not been a good fit, so I guess my feet are changing. Maybe next week, I can talk AJ into driving with me about 30 miles South of here, to the Outlet Mall.  They have a huge SAS store there with a great selection of styles and sizes.  I remember you mentioning before that it's hard to find shoes in your small size.  Maybe you have an outlet mall near you?

Mary Ann

#14140
Marilyn, HP do come in narrow widths, but Amazon does not carry all sizes in all widths.  I used to take a narrow width and I probably would in a dress shoe, but I am wearing a medium in my walking shoes.  My SAS shoes are narrow because I've had them a long time but I tried them on and they fit OK.

Sasha, cats do have minds of their owns.  A few times since he came to live with us, Kendrick has dashed out the front door to explore the world.  At first I worried, but he has come home unscathed each time.  But it was funny the first two times he was out when he went to Tom's open bedroom window and talked to him to let Tom know that he wanted to come in.  The funniest time was when I let him out on the front stoop where he likes to wiggle around on the cement.  I forgot about him and he was out for some time, but it poured out while he was out and when he came in he was soaked.  There is no place for a cat to hide because the deck has openings between the slats.  I do not let him out without watching him for a couple of minutes, then I open the door and he scoots in like a good boy!

My mother had a friend who took a size 1 1/2 shoe and she had a hard time finding her size in an adult shoe.  I think when I met the woman, I took a larger size than she did and I used to have a small, narrow foot.  People remark today about how small my foot is, but when you're less than five feet tall, you don't want a size nine!  I have a good enough understanding.

I enjoyed reading about your cats; keep it up!

Hi everyone.  We are in for a really hot day up to about 100 degrees.  With the heat factor yesterday it got up to 107.  I was sure glad I did not have to get outside yesterday.

Yesterday was a great day and then it became a very sad day when we got the call that our dear friend Doris had passed away from the effects of Alzheimer's.  We had become wonderful friends and she and her husband were surely used by God as his angels' to  us in a great time of need.  The Alzheimer's destroyed her very quickly.  Then I heard from the daughter of my best friend that he was not dismissed from the Mental Health Unit at the hospital and what is going to happen is still undecided.  My concern now is not for him but for his wife and two daughters and his son.  Fortunately I know Betty is a very strong Christian woman and I am sure she is seeking God's guidance and knowing that God does provide the answers.

We had a plan for today so Pat could get her hair cut and I was doing to do some shopping if I could get a riding electric cart.  Scott had gotten up early and was at Lowe's and called me and on the spot we decided to go to Walmart then and he came out and it was cool and no problem getting the electric cart. It worked great and that is what we will do at least during the summer.  Pat had forgotten to put in her food order so that wasn't going to happen until tomorrow so I could buy things without  out concern of duplication.  Then she called the Beauty shop and found the stylist she wanted was off on vacation.  So suddenly the day has really switched around.

]I have developed a tooth ache and just called and was able to get an appointment at 1:15 Monday, the first appointment after lunch.  I think that involves a bridge and a crown so will have a decision to make about what I want to do.

My lovely lady volunteer was here for about and hour.  The volunteer supervisor wasn't able to make it.  I will read all of the postings since yesterday but am going to bypass general commens today.  Tomorrow should be quieter but have to stay flexiable.  Pat is fixing ribs in the crock pot for our dinner this evening and a nice corn salad and all of that about did her in.

Rammel, SS payments are now based on I think it is the birthdate.  My wife gets hers on the second Wednesday of each month and others are spread out based on date of birth.

Mary Ann

Rick, my SS has been coming on the 3rd of the month and it was there this morning.

You have enough going for you, Larry, that no wonder you don't want to comment on the long messages others of us have posted!  At least we heard from you.

Mary Ann

angelface555

I also receive mine on the third of each month. No change in the weather and we still have fires and heavy smoke.

Beverly

This morning I went to the dermatologist and they removed the stitches on my scalp. It's a relief to have them gone. Now if this finger would heal!

After that I stopped at Publix to get a few things and ended up with a shopping cart full! I had forgotten that Chape was going to be playing golf later this morning. I was exhausted but expected he would be here to carry the grocery bags in, which is what he usually does. Wrong!! After all that I curled up in bed and slept till he got home. On top of everything I lost my sunglasses in the store. They're the kind that fit over my regular glasses.

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but  a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with two separate but related lung diseases. They're chronic and progressive. The main symptoms that affect me so far are extreme fatigue and a bad cough. I've never smoked so lung problems are something that I didn't expect.

I always wanted small feet, but now wear an 8 or 8 1/2! When our oldest daughter was small she had large feet for her age and my husband used to joke that "If that girl ever grows to match her feet she'll be a big girl!". She now wears a size 9 but her daughter (who has a small frame) wears a 10!  I can't wear sandals the way my friends do. They tire my legs and back. I like the New Balance athletic type shoes for everyday and gave up on dress shoes a long time ago.

Larry - That is sad about your friends. According to her daughter, my longtime best friend from Vermont who has Alzheimers has failed a lot this past year. She knew me last summer and we had a good visit, as long as I talked about the past. I don't know what to expect if I'm able to go up this year.

Patricia - I've seen reports on the fires. So awful! Your humidity levels are desert-like.

Sorry that I don't comment on each post, but I do read and enjoy them all.

RAMMEL

Thanks for the responses about SS. Checking with my bank just now it shows as "Pending". I assume it will become available tomorrow but being a Holiday, I don't know.

Everyone - enjoy the Holiday.

Good Happy Fourth of July Morning to everyone.

It is a lovely morning at Port Huron. A little hazy on the lake, but otherwise what a nice view of Rt. Honorable Paul J Martin which has passed out on the lake and all the boats fishing just outside the mouth of the river. Two more ships are coming upriver soon. Pickerel fishing now. Yesterday, I saw someone said the current on the river is about 8k. Another said in the 50 years he has been on the river, he has never seen it so high. Interesting.

I have nothing special going on today, just puttering around the house and reading.

Mary Ann

Happy 4th of July!  I looked at a few comics before I came here and it surprised me that out of maybe a dozen I look at, only three comics had reference to 4th of July.   That surprised me because I thought most of them would have something.

Beverly, it seemed for you yesterday that if it didn't rain, it poured.  I hope your head is feeling better now with the stitches out.  Groceries are heavy so no wonder you took a nap.

I had a boss, who, like you, did not smoke.  He developed lung cancer and died.  Of course, in those days we had no programs to not smoke.  My dad smoked a pipe nearly all of his life and he did not have lung cancer, nor do I.  Strange how those things happen.

MarsGal, I haven't been to the St Clair River yet, but I saw in Algonac that the walk was roped off because the water was coming over the walk.  Everyone says the water is the highest it's ever been in their memories, plus it should get higher in July.

I've invited Dot to a picnic here but I haven't heard from her yet.  I'll call her soon.

Hello everyone.  According to the weather forecast for this morning we are only to get to 93 degrees today with a good chance of rain.  Scott was talking about getting over here early this morning to install the outside doorbell/camera while it is cool but I don't think it will be too early.  It looks like we will have a high of 93 today.    The only thing on the plan for today is to go to Home Depot to return the plastic floor runners and, depending what time it is perhaps finally get to Sonny's for a lunch sandwhich to bring home.
Last evening Pat was talking about riding along, which is basically what I will be doing.  The girls will be over in the afternoon. (I know I have been writing about doing this for several days but it just hasn't worked out so maybe today will be the day.
I had a really bad episode of shortness of breath yesterday evening and used a second dosage of Morphine for the day.  However, I did get around 5 hours of sleep last evening and know I will be mainly resting today.  I am having another one this morning and took another doseage of he Morphine and am about ready to ask the nurse if the dosage can be increased.  It took me about 2 hours this morning to get my breakfast and empty the dishwasher and the job shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.  I may have to admit that I am just not in good enough shape to continue to try to do this.
Pat and the girls fixed a very good meal last evening of BBQ ribs, green  beans, and a corn salad and roles.  The two slabs of ribs were  fixed in the Instant Pot and then sauced and finished in the oven.  Unfortuntately my taste buds for meat haven't returned yet and I wasn't able to eat much of the meal. That was our 4th of July special meal.  There is plenty of food here at the house so everyone will be on their own for fixing a meal today.  It seems when I start to write my postings for today someone turns on a switch and I fall asleep. Therefore I am going to go ahead and post and then read back in the discussions and will add any comments.  Otherwise hope to see you tomorrow. My best friend is home now.

Good morning from the Interior! It is only 4:41 AM and I've been up for an hour. It's still very smoky with 18 fires in the valley. Evacuations for the Northwest are still on standby. Tempertures will be in the low nineties today with another high-pressure ridge so no weather changes.

Mary Ann

Larry and Patricia, I think we will not get up to the 90s today but we will be in the warm-hot 80s.  At 9:30 am it is 76 degrees and a tad warmer than that in the house.  I have been too lazy to walk to the slider to open it for fresh air.  (Tom just came upstairs and turned on the air and it already is cooler).

Dot cannot come for our picnic because she is going to be with her neighbor's family.  The neighbor is a best friend.  Dot's family will go north of here for their annual get-together at the Hook and Horn, which I believe is a time-share thing.  It's very rustic, too much so for Dot's aches and pains so she doesn't go, in spite of the fact all of her great-grandchildren will be there.

Tom will go to the store to get our groceries today so we'll have something in the house.  He bought some corn that he will fix and he said it looked better than what he expected from the supermarket.  Tom also will stop at the bank for me as I am fresh out of money except for five ones.

I wondered if the mowers would be here today and they are.  I know we won't get any mail today but it is usually mostly junk mail anyway, along with the e-mails I get.

Mary Ann

Joy

Happy 4th of July !  Hope everyone will have a nice day.

It will be just another day for me.  Nothing special going on.  Since the office is closed, it will be a very quiet day.  My family were going to get together on Sat. for steamed crabs, but that has been rescheduled for next week.  One son has to work and my other son went on a camping trip.  It just seems like I am not supposed to get my steamed crabs.  Was first planned for my birthday back in May.  So, I know I will enjoy the treat next week.

It is a very pretty sunny morning.  I do plan on trying to find something "patriotic" to watch on the TV today. It will be interesting  to see what the activities from DC will be this evening.   Used to love to watch the Boston Pops, but that hasn't been on TV for a while now.  I think there will also be a fireworks show from NY, also.

Plus, I did see where  the movie, "Yankee Doodle Dandy" will be on TCM  at  8.  Always a good movie.

I hope everyone will have a happy and safe 4th.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

[I'll join those of you who are having a Day At Home!  The past week has been "one thing after another" and tomorrow will start a few days of the same.
All good stuff but I'm ready for a break and "politely declined" joining my family plus those in my dil's for an afternoon/evening Pool Party/Taco Bar.

I set up my Tablet icons so I can easily move from Duluth to Port Huron and "on down the river".  Haven't quite figured out how to time things so I can catch the same ship as it moves up or down the river but have enjoyed seeing familiar names in all ports.

Mary Ann,  I saw the big sailboats on Marine Cam.  Were they a special type - or was it a special occasion?

The Home link on the Duluth cams had an announcement this morning that, at 8:20 p.m. (Duluth Time) the cam operator will focus on the harbor fireworks display.  The Hillside and Harbor cams will be the best ones to watch.

All well in central Oklahoma.

Enjoy your day.

Callie, I did realize you were among the missing and I'm glad it was busyness that kept you away.

I did not see the sailboats but I have read that there is a sailboat regatta every Wednesday late afternoon-early evening in Port Huron.

Thanks for the info about the Duluth fireworks which will be about 9:20 PM my time.

While I don't have the links in order, I do start with Port Huron, go to Marine City then Algonac.  With so few ships today, the cameras are set on automatic (Otto, they call it) and I don't stay long.  I really start with the Soo, then go to the Duluth schedule and even if there is nothing scheduled, I like to look at the Duluth canal to see what the lake looks like, then I go to Port Huron and work my way down the St Clair River.  If nothing else, those are scenic links.

Tom should be home shortly with groceries.  I may make a shortcake, otherwise I'll eat the strawberries with vanilla ice cream.  I don't want to get the half-gallons of ice cream so I've been getting two Haagen-Daz pints.  More expensive, but it doesn't last as long as the larger ones.  Our local ice cream (Hudsonville) is great but isn't in the best condition toward the end.  I'd rather waste money than food.

Mary Ann,  way back on June 29 you wrote: Going through Marine City this morning were two sailboats - Appledore IV and V.  They are not as large as the Denis Sullivan which went by last week.

Those are the ones I was asking about.

I also saw the regatta on Duluth Harbor - on the harbor side.  The next week, it looked as if they were all outside the canal on the lake.

I read posts in various folders every day but I'm usually in the recliner using my Tablet and I prefer to type my posts using the keyboard on my pc.

Getting a new updated PC set up tomorrow. Who knows when I'll figure out how to use it!   :o

How nice, to see so many messages here this morning!  Looks like most of us will be staying home for the 4th, and enjoying all the festivities either on TV, or on our computers. Just AJ and I here today, as Sandy has gone to Napa, for the weekend, and Brad and Jackie, are going to her sister's house at Stinson Beach.  Jackie has three sisters and a brother, so there is always something interesting going on in that family, every holiday, as well as every weekend.

I'm going to work my way from back to front on the messages . . .

Beverly - I can relate to your needing Chape, to carry the grocery bags from the car, into the kitchen!  I also, must have AJ to do the same, as my garage in on the lower level, and we have to go up a steep flight of stairs to get to the kitchen.  I cannot make the climb anymore, if
I'm carrying anything other than my purse.  So if he's not here, then I sometimes leave the nonperishable things in the basement, and then make a couple of trips up and down with the fridge items.
I didn't realize you have serious lung problems, so I can see where you would need a nap, after a trip to the store!

Rammel/Rick - (you "of few words").  It's really good to see you posting here in B&T, and I hope you return every day to say hello. Write a little or a lot, whatever you feel like posting.  Some of us, (like me), write too much, so it's nice to see some shorter messages here as well.  As for the SS payments - ours are still arriving on the First of the month, as they have from the beginning.

MarsGal - you're usually the first person to post here in the morning!  An "early bird" for sure.  I hope you end up doing something interesting today, if only to watch some of the festivities going on across the country?

Larry - Sorry that you had a serious episode of shortness of breath, but good that you have medications that will help you recover.  It sounds like you're keeping busy, and getting out of the house today, will be a nice change . . . even if it's only to Home Depot!

Patricia - getting up in the wee small hours of the morning, sounds like what I've been doing in recent months. I would rather get up for a few hours and read or do anything, rather than toss and turn in bed.  I haven't looked at your link yet, but will check it out when I finish this long post.

Joy - We also plan to watch,  Yankee Doodle Dandy!  I just love that old movie, and never miss a chance to see it.  There are a few scenes that I look forward to - especially the one when he sings "Yankee Doodle Dandy", and does that amazing dance on the stage!  I also like the last scene, when he visits FDR!

Callie - Please join us tonight, watching, "Yankee Doodle Dandy"!
Corny as can be, but lots of fun and some great music.  Also, "The Music Man" follows right after.  That's probably my favorite of the old musicals. Well, I guess it's a toss-up between "Music Man" and "Oklahoma"?  I wonder which one you like best?  ;D

Mary Ann - I follow the cams in much the same order you do, only I go to the Canal cam first, then The Soo, Marine City, Port Huron, and then I jump over to my two NYC cams.  I especially like NYC on weekends, when you often see cruise ships up close, and I have been lucky enough to see the QE-2, a couple of times.  I'm looking forward to watching some sailboat regatta's today.    Enjoy your strawberry shortcake!

Jackie and Jean - You're the only two who haven't posted yet today?  I hope both of you have a nice Summer day ahead?
