Jean, I'm glad you posted about the hurricane.  When I saw something about Pensacola, I wondered about you.  I'm glad you haven't had Barry at your doorstep.  I have an idea we will have rain from Barry in a few days.

Now how can I get the Marine City Cam site up. Looks like a good one. I love to see the old Vessels. Could you send me the . I would like to see the Tall ships if they ever come into a close place to Illinois.

Jeanne, try the above.  It should work, but if it doesn't, type "Marine City cam" in your search line and that should bring it up.  Another interesting one is the Port Huron cam where the ships go under the Blue Water Bridge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbAFT1gmen8  (Port Huron).

I don't know why, but both Marine City and Port Huron have the same address yet I have no trouble getting to the right one.

I just wanted to give a bit of a report on my Dad.  Dad sounded very confused when I talked to him about the whole ordeal of him being kept in the hospital over night.  He did not think they ran any tests this morning at all, but may have take; X-rays, he said.  Bless his heart💞💞. He was given a prescription for his heart and is to stop taking Zocore, the cholesterol drug that he has been on for years.  He is to see a cardiologist soon.

JACKIE, I am relieved that they did not feel a need to keep him, however it is still a concern as to why it happened to begin with.  I am just sad that I am so far away that I can not be there with him.

I hope you all are resting well tonight....pleasant dreams to all.

You can also find the webcams on StreamTime's website. In the top right corner you will find Current Cams which will get you to Port Huron and Algomac too. https://streamtimelive.com/marine-city/ I usually use this site because it is faster to switch back and forth between cams.

Marilyne

JENNY - It sounds like a good thing, that your dad has been taken off the Zocor. I have read a lot about the statin drugs, and they can cause side effects such as confusion and similar unpleasant things that he's experiencing.  I hope he is back home now, and can begin to heal from this latest upset.  Seems like it's been one thing after another for him to deal with, when I'm sure all he wants to do is to relax at home, with Diane.

MARSGal - I've got so many webcams on my desktop now, and have been cycling through them as the day moves on.  My favorite is still the Duluth Canal cam, IF, I can remember to get there in time to watch a boat that's arriving or departing.  Since you told us about Charlevoix, I spent a lot of time looking at that one over the weekend.  So many unique and colorful boats of all kinds, both Saturday and Sunday, but especially Saturday. I haven't looked yet this morning, but it probably won't be as interesting during the week.

Coffee is ready, so I'll return later . . .

Mary Ann

Tom fixed my screen so I have multiple sites available.  I bookmarked the one MarsGal posted and I'll try to follow her directions.  I've been so busy this morning looking at sailboats - the Lexington and Playfair - that I have not had time to get dressed.  I have to eat soon or it will be time for lunch - maybe brunch.

I let the cat out on the deck, then forgot to set the timer.  The a/c went on and I got up to close the doors.  Kendrick was glad to see me because it is already in the high 80s and to get to 90 today and all week with the exception of one day.

Jenny, keep us posted about your dad.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

I have a new computer and the tech who set it up was "creative" about where he put my Favorites.  Every time I think I have time to sit down and work with it....something or someone interrupts or the modem goes off (not the fault of the new computer).  >:(

Have been reading and watching webcams on my Tablet and have enjoyed seeing all the ships along the river and the Wednesday evening sailboat regattas on Duluth Harbor.  Also enjoyed watching the NYC parade for the American soccer team live - and seeing the "blackout" in Times Square.

Jenny, I've been following your comments about your Dad.  I hope your Dad can be situated in a place that is adequate for the kind of care he needs.  It's hard to have to be the "parent of a parent" and insist they do what's best even if it isn't what they want.

The morning is slipping away and I need to take care of a few Domestic Duties (see first comment on "something interrupting!"  ::) }

Enjoy your day.....

Carol

Jenny: Sorry for your worry about your dad.  I remember the feelings of not being there for mom and dad at crit cal times.  It sounds like his care is good[/

St. Lawrence 2 and another Brigantine rigged ship left Port Huron this morning. The rest of the tall ships have left Cleveland also this morning, including the schooner Inland Seas and a Barque called STS Picton Castle. Here is what that one looks like. https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:701689/mmsi:518000019/imo:5375010/vessel:PICTON_CASTLE I don't know how long it will take to get to the St. Clair River from there, but I will be checking later this afternoon.

The backyard is mowed, Yea! I got out about 9am, so I missed the Brigantines leaving, but did rewind to see them. It's about 12:18pm now, and I feel a nap coming on before I tackle anything else.
[/color]

Mary Ann

MarsGal, people in Chat at Port Huron are wondering if boats leaving Cleveland today will make it to Port Huron in time for the race.

I did manage to dress and take all my pills etc etc and I am eating what I call brunch.  I want to go to the jeweler up the hill if Tom has time.  The battery died and it lasted a long while.  I don't have a smart phone so when I'm away from a clock inside, I need a watch.  Kendrick wants attention, so for someone who does little, I've been busy.

Callie, I hope you get your computer to where you like it.  It takes some doing when you're used to things being in a certain place - and all of a sudden, they aren't.  Tom added some ship cams for me and I've got to get used to them.  Also when I click on the Soo, Duluth comes up and vice versa.  I'll change that if I can, if not, Tom can.

Hi everyone on a beautiful morning here in South Carolina. We are suppose to get up to 97 degrees this afternoon but no rain.

It was Pat's observation that made her recognize I was having the dementia due to the dehydration and as soon as she had me start on drinking water during the night I knew yesterday morning that the dementia was gone and my mind was clear again.  She is my caregiver and I have told her I will follow her caregiving and she and my son will look after my needs if I quit meddling.

I just had a call from Lowe's about my new flooring.  Talk about something being confused this situation is a case study.  The call was from the delivery folks at Lowe's saying they were about three minutes away with the flooring to deliver.  I explained that Scott had the material in his car that avoided any delivery charges as it involved only 8 boxes.  The actual installer will be calling within the next couple of days to set up the time to come and install it. They took the materials back to Lowe's and I had another call from Lowe's and I have the paid receipt so hopefully that is all straightened out but we will just take it as it comes over the next few days.  I am short of breath today and probably will spend the day in bed, enjoying a right minded day.  I did have a Facetime call from my friend Rod. The one good thing about getting caught with dementia is perhaps I have some idea of what my friend is living and we can have a great conversation.

I am going to enjoy every day of this Hospice Journey and will continue to be as supportive as I can be in sharing my journal.  On Friday my nurse was out on an emergency and came late.  I had seen years ago how they were willing to stay with a family of a person and family, as they did with us when Stacey was dying.  We just don't know what these people do while being on call.

I want to share this piece that Pat had sent me in an email this morning and that came right after I had made the decision to do whatever she said because she has made the commitment to be my caregiver.  If you see a few tears in this message they are here.

One final comment for today.  I will not always be posting in the morning as am sleeping later.  So give me a wide window to post each day as I plan to continue to do this daily after missing few days in 25 years.  I do appreciate your expressions of concern.  I will try to post in the AM.

MarsGal, I remember the celebrations of the tall ships.  I also remember reading the John Jakes books built around the historical events.

Jean, sure glad that New Orleans missed the terrible impacts of Katrina.  Hope your area avoided the waters.

Mary Ann, they played the Ice Truckers series last evening on TV and I watched for several hours.  I have always enjoyed these progams but they sure beat up expensive trucks and themselves.

Jenny, sorry that your dad had to be rehospitalized.  Being so confused is a terrible place to be.

Callie, hope you soon will have your computer set up the way you want it.  I use Goggle Documents and found that I didn't need many of the old bookmarks I had saved over the years.

    A PLACE FOR ME

There is a special place in life that needs my humble skill,
A certain job I'm meant to do which no one else can fulfill.

The time will be demanding and the pay is not too good
And yet I wouldn't change it for a moment -- even if I could
.
There is a special place in life, a goal I must attain,
A dream that I must follow, because I won't be back again.

There is a mark that I must leave, However small it seems to be,
A legacy of love for those who follow after me

There is a special place in life that only I may share,
A little path that bears my name, awaiting me somewhere.

There is a hand that I must hold, a word that I must say,
A smile that I must give for there are tears to blow away.

There is a special place in life that I was meant to fill.
A sunny spot where flowers grow, upon a windy hill.

There's always a tomorrow and the best is yet to be,
And somewhere in this world, I know there is a place for me.

Mary Ann, somehow Vimeo had inserted extra word in the URL which I hadn't noticed.  I corrected it.  In fact I was correcting it while you were trying to see it.  It's OK now.  The little fledglings are so cute.

Good to see Larry posting today.  Things are quiet here but HOT.

Jenny, I sure hope everything works out regarding your dad.

Have a good day everyone.

Larry, so good to see you ...you brought tears to my eyes reading that poem. Kyle and I went through that, not knowing what the  next day would bring when he was going through chemo. I am tickled pink that you have a wonderful caregiver ,now listen to her! :smitten:

A good Monday HELLO.

THANK YOU ALL for your kind and caring words about my Dad.
I talked to him this morning and he sounded good.  They gave him a prescription for a medicine for Angina, so I guess that was the diagnosis of his ER and hospital visit.  He is to see a cardiologist ASAP. He says he is not going and he is never going back to the ER again either!  Bless his heart😢. I know many of you understand how hard it is to be in my position and especially being away from him and not being able to SEE what is going on.  I must remind myself though, I am not the person in charge, it is my brother.......I am just the person that cares😩😩.

It is going to be a busy week as I have a lot I need to accomplish before we leave a week from tomorrow for a visit to our Boston Family. We are taking the oldest grandson and the granddaughter with us.  Dr. Dave will fly in the end of the week and bring them back home on Sunday.  Dave has never seen the older brother's home in Boston and it will give him a short break away also.   The family have not had much of a fun summer with their mom not able to travel. The Boston Famly has just put in a new swimming pool, so the kids are excited about this!

The youngest Boston Grandson is flying to Green Lake Wisconsin tomorrow to spend a few days with his other grandparents, then he will fly with them to Denver on Sunday as his grandpa has a appointment at National Jewish Hospital. He will spend a couple of days with us then he too, will fly with us to Boston! C R A Z Y.....  We fly out at 6 AM.....poor kiddos!  When I made the reservation, a few months back, I picked that flight as it was the most reasonable one at that time!  It will get us to Boston at a good time too.

LARRY, I enjoyed your Post and loved the poem, A PLACE FOR ME.  YES, it does bring on the tears, but it is so reassuring to have your loving Wife Pat by your side, and yes, you do need to listen to her as she can see where things are a miss and can help you through these dark times💞💞

JEAN, I watched your area regarding the hurricane as we have family in Panama City, as you know.  Sure was happy that NOLA got through it without too much damage, but bless the folks that are dealing with all the flooding.

I hope you all are having a good Monday.  A weather warning has been issued here and it is getting really dark out.....please NO HAIL😱😱

I was sent this clip this morning and I thought it would be nice to share.

Mary Ann - Looks like I missed Paul, or maybe he hasn't arrived at Marine city yet?  I get confused with calculating the time difference, so I'll go back and check, when I finish here.  I've been meaning to ask you if you've started watching Jeopardy again??  I have, and it seems to be back to it's old routine, with a consistent turnover of players. There have been a few who have lasted a number of days, but nothing like James!

Larry -   Thank you for posting, A Place For Me.  I think each of us can relate to it, in our own personal way. The time will come for all of us.

Hi Jenny - I see that we were both posting at the same time!

Mary Ann

Marilyn, you posted at 4:30 my time and that was early for Paul.  I saw him at Algonac but that camera was mostly on automatic and when I saw the ship there, it was in the middle of the screen already.  But I knew it would be in Marine City soon and I think the ship went through about 6 pm our time.  The ship should be at Port Huron in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, which would be around 3:30 to 4 pm your time.  You are 3 hours different than we are and I am in the same time zone as the St Clair River.

It is 6:20 here now and I am thinking about what to have for supper if Tom is not here then.  He is here now but it is not unusual for him to come upstairs and announce he is off to eat with so-and-so.

No, Marilyn, I have not watched Jeopardy again.  I think I watched a couple episodes and missed one, then realized I did not miss seeing it.  I may pick it up again some day but James winning all that money and the program allowing him on in the first place, soured me on watching.

Jenny, I would say your dad's condition is much like my dad's, although your dad is much older.  While I lived at home yet, so in a way was in charge, for anything major, Norm and I would discuss it.  He had very little to do with Dad because Norm worked ungodly hours and days but I could talk to him if I thought it necessary.

And here you go again, traveling to Boston.  Your entire family is on the move and how do you keep track of everyone?!!!  You tire me out just reading about it - but I love to hear about other's travels, so keep us posted.

I must be the early bird this morning.

What wonderful long posts this morning. Larry, thanks so much for the lovely poem, and Jenny for the video.

You can groan now. The latest tall ship update. The Picton Castle passed Marine City about 5:45am this morning, so you can still catch her at Port Huron soon. Great shot of her just before sunrise at Marine City where the sun hit the masts and turned them to gold. Inland Seas is just leaving Belle Isle after spending the night there. Pride of Baltimore and Bluenose II are in the Detroit River. Denis Sullivan, the replica of the Nina, and the USS Niagra are still on Lake Erie but not too far from the Detroit River. St. Lawrence II just entered Saginaw Bay. I wonder if there will be a live web feed at Bay City.

An Unusual site at Algomac, the Great Republic has taken the branch right past the Algomac camera instead of going straight.

Mary Ann

Greetings on this warm morning.  I'm waiting for the a/c to kick in.

MarsGal, I checked the Great Republic and it is at the foot of Harsen Island which is off the right branch of the river south of Algonac.  I haven't seen any ships go that way, myself, but I see their destinations that way occasionally.  It would be nice if there was a live feed from the Bay City area but I haven't read anything about it.

Today is Tom's 62nd birthday.  We went to supper last night, not to celebrate, but because neither of us felt like fixing anything to eat.  We started at Bud & Stanley's but there were so many cars there we knew we'd never get a table, so we went to Cheers where I think we got the last booth, but there might have been tables in areas I could not see.  Cheers also was packed - and NOISY - and we decided it was so warm no one wanted to cook so decided to eat out.  Cheers is a sports bar and there were several families there.

Since I didn't get my watch battery yesterday, I am in hopes we can get it today.  The jeweler is up on the hill from us (we're at the bottom of the hill).  The jewelry has had a couple of attempts at robbery from men from Detroit.  After the first one, the son of the owner took lessons in shooting and has had to use his new talent, but the attempted robberies were not successful.  Norm lost his license plate during the first attempt.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Happy Birthday to Tom!

Mary Ann, I just saw Appledore IV pass Marine City with three sails. To my eyes, she is a beauty. I so do like schooners; she is a Gaff Schooner. It is not showing up on GPS, and the last time I saw a destination it said (and still does) Buffalo. It is listed at the Bay City Challenge site along with a couple of other Appledores. Just found out that Sarnia is hosting a Tall Ships festival on August 9, so we will get another shot at some of them. Too bad Sarnia and Black River are just out of site.

Well, I've wasted just about five hours looking at the web cams off and on. It will be a while until Pride of Baltimore shows up. I saw that one at Baltimore's Inner Harbor years ago.

MarsGal

Almost forgot Picton Castle is registered from the Cook Islands. The pilot boat came out to meet it and ran parallel to it until out of sight. I did get my question about the pilot changes though, it seems they almost always make the change a few miles out into the lake out of sight of the camera.

Okay, okay, I'm outta here for a while. Cats want fed.

MARS GAL - So sorry that I missed all the tall ships!  Something I have only seen still pictures of over the years.  Here in California, we don't have the types of lake and river systems to accommodate them. I'm thinking there have been some that have come into San Francisco Bay, but not sure?

MARY ANN - I'm also wishing Tom a Happy Birthday!  I didn't realize that he is only ten months older than my daughter Shelley.  She will turn 62 next May.  I hope you go out again tonight to celebrate.

JENNY - Good to hear that you will have a vacation in Boston!  You and Bob deserve some time away, with all the responsibilities that seem to be falling on your shoulders. It's so much easier in today's "Tech World", to keep in touch with everyone. If you're needed for either your Dad, or Michele, you can find out quickly and get back home, or to AZ.  I hope that doesn't happen though, so you can enjoy a nice calm vacation with your Boston family.

Marilyn, we had the birthday dinner/lunch last week for both James and Tom.  James' birthday was the 11th and he was 30!  Imagine that, the little carrot-top who is no longer a carrot-top, but has auburn hair and facial hair.  He's the father of the twins.  I told Tom last night we were having his birthday dinner, but we handled it as we always do; I give him $20 and he pays the bill including anything over the $20.  Tom is going to lunch with a friend but I don't know if the friend will treat or not.  It doesn't matter to Tom as long as he is with a friend.

I have been watching boats and reading Chats.  As soon as Tom leaves, I'll get dressed.  When he returns, we'll go to the jewelry store to get my watch battery.  Since I do not have a smart phone, I do use my watch.  Tom will leave soon.

MarsGal, I read comment about Appledore IV and not showing up on the chart, but some recognized the boat.  I went to the Bay City area on the chart, expecting to see a lot of sailboats, but only a couple.

The a/c did not start until nearly 10:45 but it is now cycling and it is comfortable in here.  Actually, with no outlet in this room (windows shut), it gets quite warm.  The thermostat is just outside the door to this room.

Tom left so I will get dressed now.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

]Haven't been on the webcams yet today.  Hope some of the sailboats come through this afternoon.

Could someone please give me a link to the Bay City cam? Thank you.

I don't think we'd feel the heat as much if the weather gurus didn't keep telling us how high the Heat Index (always more than the temperature is)!!

FlaJean

The time has flown by and it is already 12:30.  Made a stop at the library so I have a few books to read.  It felt hot in the sun but nice in the shade but not for long I am sure.

Jenny, hope you have a nice Boston vacation with your family.

Mary Ann, you probably have plenty left from last night's meal for today.  Whenever we go out (which isn't often), we always have plenty of leftovers for another meal.  Occasionally we just get sandwiches or McDonald's hamburgers, then we get takeout as it is more comfortable eating at home.

I need to go check on the dryer.  Have a good day all.

Hello again . . . still morning here, and I'm just sitting around and waiting for Sandy to come over to do her weekly laundry.  Her day off from work was changed from Monday to Tuesday, so that means I have to adjust to the new schedule also! ::) Anyway, we'll eat lunch here, and just talk the afternoon away.

MARY ANN - I remember Tom's family birthday dinner from last week, but I just wanted to send him birthday wishes on the real day.  Glad you had a chance to enjoy another night out last night.

JEAN - We don't go out as much as we used to, but have started eating a lot of ready to eat things from the deli at Safeway or Whole Foods. A piece of chicken or a couple of meatballs, is reasonably priced at either place, and then I make rice and a frozen veggie to go with it.  Last night we had tuna sandwiches.   I'm no good at cooking anymore, and AJ doesn't like to cook.  I admire all the S&F members who are buying the Instant Pots, and making delicious sounding meals!  I would have liked that about ten years ago, but no longer interested.

CALLIE - Like you, I notice the constant weather talk, warning us of the next change to beware of!  I don't remember that panicky talk in the past?  Is the weather that different?

JENNY - We'll be looking forward to hearing from you while you're in Boston!

Callie, this is as close as I could come to a Bay City cam.  There really are a lot of them, many dealing with the Bay City Yacht Club.  Bay City itself is on the Saginaw River (I think) which runs into Saginaw Bay.  This link does mention the races Saturday and I think there will be other races up and down the east side of Michigan.  We might even have some on this side of the state.

Jean, yes, as usual, I brought half of my sandwich home from last night and I did not feel like eating it this noon but if Tom is not here at suppertime, I will eat it then.  I had a turkey sandwich with Gouda melted cheese and I did not get the french fries.

I had an interesting time at the jewelers.  The battery was no problem, but I thought they would have some gold ball earrings of different sizes for sale.  A clerk waited on me for the battery and said another clerk was looking for earrings.  Finally the second clerk came out and said they didn't have exactly the same size but it would be close and they were $60.  I kind of gulped to myself, although I knew they wouldn't be cheap.  And if the backs I have did not fit, new backs would be $20 more - so I would be paying from $60 to $100.  I told them thanks, I'd forget about it.  I was prepared to pay up to $50 including backs.  I think I can get some earrings through Amazon if I want some bad enough.
