Marilyn, these are the two sites I have for Port Huron.  The second one was posted this morning or yesterday by MarsGal and is a work in progress but it is in a different direction than the first one.  I say a 'work in progress' because it is kind of jerky but you see things you don't see in the first one.  I do not have a link for the Tall Ships, but if you try for Bay City MI or Saginaw Bay MI you may find something.  I read the Chats under the city links and they give a lot of information you don't find out otherwise.  When I click on the Marine Tracker, they show a lot of small boats that I am sure are sailboats.

I'm watching The Open from Northern Ireland (Portrush) as I type so I have no idea what gets put in writing.  When I am finished here, I'll go back to the ships.  I wanted to see a particular ship go south through Algonac a while ago, fell asleep and woke up too late; the ship was out of sight.

I had not mentioned it but the sore on my nose is Basal Cell Cancer and I will have the Mohs treatment on October 1.  That was the first available date and I don't know if that is good or bad.  The sore is not giving me any trouble or pain.  I hope AJ's biopsy is negative.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Marilyn, at 3:15 pm EDT, Paul is in Lake Huron, headed south to Port Huron.  I don't know how to calculate the distance and time, but it might be 15 minutes or so before he gets to Port Huron.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

The Boland is in Port Huron. And then Paul?

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Thanks for the links to Port Huron.  I just looked and see the ship, John Boland is there right now, and will be followed by Paul!  Reading the chat is helpful, as someone posting there always seems to know what's coming up next!

FlaJean

Paul is in Port Huron

Mary Ann

I saw both of them.  It's amazing when you consider the sizes of those ships that they are seemingly so easily maneuvered.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

It was a treat to see Paul today at Port Huron.  A great shot from the cam, showing his/her incredible size! Makes me wonder how a ship that size can fit into the Soo Locks?  I know Paul has been through the locks hundreds of times, so I guess it's just a matter of the captain, knowing how to maneuver into a narrow space?

Now I'm going to take a look at the NYC cam, and see if there are any cruise ships today?  Probably earlier, and I missed them.

Denver

It is Saturday afternoon already and I just do not know where the time goes, but it passes much too quickly.

We were up early yesterday to go to Dr. Dave's.  He had a colonoscopy and we took the 3 grands to breakfast and to a few other entertaining things, and Michele drove him. We returned home just in time to jump in the shower to dress for dinner. Youngest Son Brian and DIL, Cathy took us downtown for a wonderful meal.  We ate at a place on the top story of a building with a spectacular view of downtown Denver.  We ate out side and it was delightful in spite of it being 100• here in Denver.  It was in the shade and there was a nice breeze.

MARILYNE, I see your AJ also had a fun time yesterday doing the same thing.  I do hope his report comes back with good news.  I, too, am due for one, as it has been 10 years right now since the last one.  I am dreading it, as we all seem to, but I know how important they are.  When Michele had her first one, the hospital staff tried to talk her out of doing it as she was too young and she was having to pay out of pocket for it, and that was the start of her awful ordeal of colon cancer. 😩😢

We are in the middle of a bad thunderstorm....warnings are coming in like crazy.  So far it has been only wind and rain, but hail is falling everywhere.

MARY ANN, I am sorry your dermatologist found a Basal Cell Cancer and you face another Mohs treatment on October.

I think I best get off of here as the lightening is really bad right now.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Mary Ann

Jenny, thanks for your concern about my Basal Cell Cancer.  It is on my nose and will be the third Mohs treatment in 15 years.  Being on my nose, there isn't much place to operate, but I have confidence in this doctor as he's done the other two.  Jenny and Marilyn, I hope both men get good reports from the colonoscopies.

Marilyn, evidently the Soo lock is long enough for those 1000-footers to get into.  They are too long for the Welland Canal in New York, however.  I don't think the width is a problem but I know the length is at Welland.  Have you seen a video of a freighter in a lock with the water going in or going out?

While I have been typing, four e-mail messages have shown up, all of them spam.  I know where they will go!

From the smells around right now, a neighbor is having a cookout and I'm smelling the lighter fluid and heat.  They're good neighbors and I don't mind.  Often I will sit on the deck but I'm not sure about tonight because we had a heavy rain and storm this afternoon, with thunder loud enough to bring the cat in here.  Noises have not bothered him in the past but this was too loud.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

The weather showed heavy rain and storms coming up from the Gulf and it all went to the left or the right of us and we didn't get a drop of rain.  It turned into a nice sunny day with the temps in the low 80s.  The Port Huron web cam did a good job on those two ships.  I still haven't seen a ship going into a lock.

Jenny, I thought you were in Boston on vacation.  Michelle must be feeling better if she is able to drive?

This past week sure flew by.

Mary Ann

Jean, at one time there were two views at the Soo - one at a time.  Most of the time, the view we see now is there.  The other view with the locks is at the right of what we see.  I think there is a video of ships going into the locks and you see them lower or rise, depending on the direction they are going.  Superior is the highest of the lakes and that is the purpose of the locks.  Huron and Michigan are the same level as is Erie.  But I think to go from Erie to Ontario, ships must go through the Welland Canals and there are a lot of locks in that system.  I saw a video the other day of travel through the Welland Canal and for a ship, it takes a long time because it takes about 20 minutes to lower or raise the ship.  If I can find it, I'll post it here; the video takes about 10 minutes, but it is interesting - and it is in fast motion!

Before our storm today the temperature in the area between this building and the garage was 96 degrees.  It now is 74 degrees.  Our forecast for next week is in the 80s, a nice change, but we'll be back in the 90s before long.

We went for sandwiches at Jimmy John tonight.  We brought them home and they were very good.  Tom used to get Subways but the place we went closed and I think I prefer Jimmy John sandwiches anyway.

I'll see what/if I can find on the Soo or Welland locks.

Good Morning Everyone from the very
hot but not so humid, rocky coast
of Maine.

I have had the AC on all night and
it seems to be working great.   I hope
that my AC makes it through this Summer
as I spent my saved "AC money" and
bought me a new laptop Computer...

I may have to go down and spend some time
with my sister in law as she is in
the hospital now with an adrenal gland tumor
(very rare) and will be in the hospital
for a couple of week until they
can operate.  Otherwise she is a
very healthy 82 year old.  So we are
all hoping for the very best.

I might go down and spend some time
with her while she is recuperating.
As she should not be alone when she
gets home from the hospital.

I am able to be there for her and
call  911 if the need be and generally
help her out  inside her home.

So I want a good computer to take
with me. So a brand spanky new
one is on order.

I am watching the British Open and
loving it.    So it is going to be
a good indoor cool day for me
here in Portland Maine.

Mary Ann

Good morning, Sandy, and others who may follow.  It is hot and humid here already at 9:15 am and I am watching a band on the TV about churches that are cancelled because of power outages.  Tom had said all of Plainfield avenue (near us) was out yesterday afternoon.  We do not have A/C at church, at least not in the sanctuary.

I just made the decision and called Dot - that I am not going to church this morning.  It is 72 degrees out.  I expect I will go to the Cholesterol Pit after church because they are air conditioned; I have an idea it will be busy there!

Now I will turn on the a/c.

My lovely neighbour from down the bottom offered the other day to drive me to my new church this morning although she is not a church person herself, she then went for the 1 & a half hours to her twin sisters home not too far away to look after her as she has various serious medical issues, her sister also lost her hubby a week or two ago, then friend Pam came back to collect me, she has not long left and we sat outside and chatted while I made our tea and coffee and salad sandwich...Pam is the only person on this unfriendly site who ventures anywhere near me...

Marilyne

Good morning everyone. :)

Jackie - nice that you had a ride to church this morning, and then Pam joined you for some tea or coffee.  I'm sorry that your neighbors aren't friendlier, but seems that that's the way of the world now.  We used to know our neighbors here, but that was long ago, and they have all moved away.  Those who have taken their place, keep to themselves and no one seems to be friendly to anyone.

Mary Ann - Sounds like a good idea, to stay home from church this morning. I've been watching your weather, (the East and Midwest), on the news every night, and it looks to be miserable.  We're comfortable here, but of course it won't last. They are predicting mid 90's by Tuesday of this week.  Usually California takes turns with the East.  If we get a heat wave, that means you will be starting to cool down.  Now time to check the cams, and see if anything of interest is happening?

Patricia - I hope we hear from you today?  Let us know how you're feeling?  I haven't read about the fires in a number of days, so hoping they are under control?

MarsGal

Good Very Hot Morning!

This looks like fun. Except you won't find me floating down the St. Clair on a tube. I wouldn't mind the dinner and talk at Port Huron and the visit to Marine City and Algonac. https://www.facebook.com/streamtimeLIVE  scroll down for the info about the Luau dinner and talk at the Blue Water Convention Center and scroll down farther to see the ad for the whole Cam Crawl Weekend. I expect we will eventually see some clips of the events.

Did you know that Agonac is where Christopher Columbus Smith (think Chris-Craft) founded his famous line of boats?

Gosh, look at the size of this thing. https://www.livescience.com/65946-human-size-jellyfish-found-in-uk.html

Patricia, I miss seeing your posts, too.

Mary Ann

Oh, to be young again.  I agree with you MarsGal, I would not be going down the St Clair River on a tube either, at least not now.  If I were young, who knows?  That is quite a good sized jelly fish and I'm hoping they left it in the water.

Dot picked me up after church and we went to the Cholesterol Pit.  She said church was not too bad as far as temperature was concerned.  I'm glad I stayed home because Jan stopped by with a couple of things Norm had given Terry; I think she had talked to Tom about them and he said he'd like them.

Jan said she took her mother to church this morning for the first time in two years.  She got along fine.  I asked if her mother realized Jan's father was gone, she said at times she did but other times wondered where he was.  I told Jan the obit was in the paper this morning.  I don't get a paper but the obits are posted online and I read it there.

When we got home from brunch, I changed to shorts and I'm very comfortable.  The temp inside fluctuates between 75 and 76 degrees.

I watched the final round of the European Golf from Northern Ireland which Shane Lowry of Portrush, Northern Ireland won, hometown boy.  Originally I think the crowd was cheering for Rory Mc Ilroy but he did not make the cut.  I'm listening to music now.

JENNY - I agree with you on the importance of having a colonoscopy!  I had one when I was 52, and they discovered a malignant polyp.  I had surgery to have it removed.  After that, I had to have a colonoscopy every year for five years.  Then every five years, until I turned age 80.  The reason that AJ had one this past week, (age 84), is because he is in remission from Lymphoma, so they do a petscan every year or so. The scan showed something in the colon, so that's why he had to have one.

MARY ANN - I liked going down river in a tube, when I was a young woman. I went down the Truckee River, in a tube, and loved it, when I was in my 40's.  It's a fast moving river in the high Sierra, that empties into Lake Tahoe.   However, compared to the St. Clair, it's insignificant. No boats allowed at all.  We don't have any rivers in CA that are as long and wide as the St. Clair.

I hope your temperatures are starting to drop?  It's beginning heat up here today, and supposed to be going into a heat wave by Tuesday.  I dread it, as this old house is so difficult to cool.   Glad you enjoyed your brunch at the Cholesterol Pit!

I see we haven't heard from Patricia yet?  I hope everything is okay in Fairbanks?

Mary Ann

Marilyn, when I had my cottage in the '60s and '70s and I was quite a bit younger, my neighbor had some big inner tubes and she and I would go out on the lake and drift in our area.  That was fun, but nothing like drifting on a river, fast or not.

Temperatures are in the mid-80s today and much more comfortable.  If we don't have rain, I think Kendrick and I will relax on the deck this evening.  Kendrick will either lie down on the deck or he will get into a corner and listen for birds.  He often does not want to come in.  I don't mind leaving him out on the deck for a while but I don't want to leave him there all night.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Today was nice and sunny.  We took a little ride and stopped by Starbuck's.  I asked for a decaf caramel Frappuccino and a butter croissant.  They were both so good, but when I was just about finished I noticed the ticket didn't show decaf as it usually does. I'll probably be tossing and turning tonight, but I sure did enjoy it!

Mary Ann, I've been reading a P.D. James mystery and Larry finished his books and was watching the golf in Ireland.  I enjoy seeing someone win a major title for the first time.  It makes all their hard work worth the effort.  I don't think I would have enjoyed that weather——too chilly and damp.

Things are very quiet here and that is fine with me.  Patricia, hope you are feeling well.  I believe Bubble also hasn't posted for several days.  Trust everyone is OK.

Mary Ann

I miss people when they haven't posted in a few days.  I do try to post here in Norm's B&T daily, in fact, I know I post more than once daily.  I have not been as faithful in the Soda Shoppe, but with so few people posting in either of the folders, I think I should post more often.  We cover different subjects in the folders.  Post more often??  I have well over 5000 posts already!  Very few people have as many posts.  (I see I am closer to 6000 posts).

Jean, I have a coupon for Starbucks, a Christmas gift from Annie, and I should use it.  I am not a coffee drinker, so maybe I can get a sandwich instead.  I know I'm hard to buy for at my age.

I was glad to see Shane Lowry win for the first time in a major tour.  There are a few players who have won for the first time this year.  I am not a fan of some who have won many times but I love to watch the new players advance.

Mary Ann

Beverly

Mary Ann - I haven't done well with posting. I've been reading here every day and was so sorry that Larry doesn't feel up to his daily messages. I would like to call him again but hate to when I don't know if he's up to taking phone calls.

We've been having some health issues (more than our usual) so haven't had much cheery to post about. Chape has been having a problem with one of the implants and I have been under the weather with a bad UTI. We try to keep a sense of humor and joke about what a mess we are!  :) Both of us are beginning to feel better.

We had a whopping thunderstorm this afternoon with strong winds and once it sounded like lightning hit close by. The temperature dropped 20 degrees!

Marilyne - I hope AJ gets good results from the biopsies.

Jackie - It's nice that you have a neighbor who keeps in touch. Having one is better than none!  :) As someone said, neighbors aren't what they used to be. I'm very lucky here as we all moved into the neighborhood within the same year. Our house was the second one built. We have always looked out for each other in time of need.

Our oldest daughter has been on antibiotics all week for Lyme disease. She was bitten by a tick while visiting friends in southern Massachusetts. She's also been going through some tests and Friday received the news that she has Hodgkins Lymphoma.  :(  She will meet with an oncologist Monday to see what her treatment plan will be.

Mary Ann

Beverly, in his message about not posting, Larry mentioned e-mails.  I think he would be receptive to getting e-mails and he'd answer if he felt like it.  It must be a terrible feeling to want to sleep all of the time and to not want to do other things.

The cat and I sat out on the deck for quite a while late afternoon and there was a nice breeze blowing.  We are at 75 degrees now and that should mean some good sleeping.  The cat sleeps a lot in the lower level because it is cooler down there.  I have a fan going in my bedroom to circulate the air and that makes it nice.

I'm sorry you and Chape have not been feeling good and I'm glad you are feeling better.  Keep it up!

It's nearly time for bed.

GOOD EVENING.....it is late but I just wanted to see how everyone has enjoyed their day.

We were quite a bit cooler here today, especially this afternoon when it clouded over.  Tonight we are having all kinds of weather warnings including flooding.  It has not rained that much here but we have had a lot of thunder and lightening.

Grandson Warner arrived safely and we picked him up from his other grandparents.  We managed to get most of our clothes packed so will not have that much to do tomorrow.  We have to get our granddaughter to dance at 1 PM and pick her up at 4:30.  We are ALL on edge as we wait to hear about Michele's scan....so hopefully the tumor has shrunk .....that will be the best new ever IF it has....

BEVERLY, I am so sorry to read the news about your oldest daughter....Lyme Disease is bad and now Hodgkins Lymphoma.....I am so so sorry for her.  HUGS to you and Chape.....

JACKIE, I was so pleased and happy to read that Pam helped you to get to church.....bless her heart.

MARILYNE, I am so sorry to read about your malignant polyp.  I hope and pray that AJ's biopsy will be benign.  You both have had your fair share of dealing with this awful stuff.  Yes, a colonoscopy is a pretty simple procedure to go through to make sure you are OK.

We have to be up early tomorrow so we can get checked in on Southwest Airline for our 6 AM flight on Tuesday 🤣🤣😩😩. Tuesday will be a very, very early get up!  What was I thinking?😱🤯🤯🤯

Pleasant dreams to all.

I am back home!  I went away since the 18th: I had invited my daughter to a vacation/stay in a kibbutz in Galilee. It's called Lohamei Ha-ghetaot and was founded by the survivors  who spent WWII fighting the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto. There is a  museum bearing witness to incredible bravery: from daredevil escapes plotted in sewers to spiritual resistance through the clandestine cultivation of Jewish education and culture.

BUt it was soooo hot! I came back tired and sweaty and will need two or three days to recuperate!

It is good there was no major problem for me to solve:  I had no internet access on the kibbutz.

Mary Ann

Bubble, it is good to have you back.  As you could see, you were missed.  Your vacation location sounds interesting and educational.

Our heat wave has somewhat broken down from the 90s but still in the 80s which isn't too cool, but bearable.  I just looked at my clock and I thought a lot of time had passed but it is only 20 to 10 am here.  The sun is shining.

That's a mean looking leg of your daughter's, Beverly.  I know ticks can cause a lot of trouble.

Jenny, I hope all comes out even with your preparations to leave so early in the morning tomorrow.  I remember getting up at 4 am to be on time for some trip; I don't think it was a plane, I think it was a group tour by bus, but early is early.

I know I have plenty to do but as usual, not much will be done.  Old age does have its benefits!

Mary Ann

Vanilla-Jackie

Bubble...
...just google mapped where you had been, what a fantastic looking place, its building and its surrounds...Whoever looks after the grounds are doing a very neat job with the hedges and its archways...

Marilyne

BUBBLE - I looked up, Lohamei Ha-ghetaot, on-line, and found lots of pictures and information.  What a wonderful historical site for you and your daughter to visit. I can imagine that it was a very solemn, but inspirational place.  I plan to read more about it, and look again at  the pictures taken in the museum.

BEVERLY - What terrible news about your daughter getting bitten by a tick carrying Lyme disease!  I hope that taking the antibiotics right away, will prevent her from getting it??   On top if that, she has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma!  I'm so sorry to hear that bad news, but I do know that it's a highly treatable lymphoma. After chemo, the majority of people go into remission, and don't have a recurrence.  Please keep us updated on her treatment plan, and how she is doing?

JENNY - Good that everything worked out as planned, as far as picking up Warner was concerned.  And now you will have some time to spend with him in Boston, as well as with your son and dil.  I know you'll be worried about Michele, and the results of the scan.  I will be thinking about her, and sending positive thoughts and prayers for everything to work out in her favor.  The poor girl has been through so much the past couple of months, and I'm hoping that she will now go into remission.

FlaJean

Bubble, that sounds like an interesting trip but good to have you back.  Nice that you were able to spend some time with your daughter.  no matter how interesting and pleasant I've found a trip, it is always good to be home again.  My daughter and son-in-law are planning to visit the Holocaust Museum on their vacation to DC in August.  It hadn't been built when we lived in that area.  It is going to be hot in August, but the cost of hotels, etc, is cheaper in August as the Congress is pretty much on vacation.

Mary Ann, our temps here in Florida have been cooler than many in the north.  It is supposed to cool down in most of the country but we will still have the same summer heat.  I'm just hoping the hurricanes stay away from us.  Our best weather is in the fall, winter and early spring.  The main thing is no snow, according to my husband.

Marilyne, I surely hope you get good news about AJ's test.

Hope everyone has a good day.  And keeping Larry Hannah in my thoughts and prayers.
