I just went back and read the farmer.  Aside from the fact that I've ALWAYS been a fan of Paul Harvey, my grandfather was a lifetime farmer and my father grew up on a farm and could make ANYTHING grow!  And I spent a lot of summer hours on my grandparents farm as I grew up.  Thank you for sharing that!

Amy from the bottom Of my Heart thank you for shearing that with us.  I have lead a full Life and still going, started out at six years of age delivering grocery's Papers and mowing yards with a old real push mower. at age seven got a job in a blacksmith shop creaking the hand blower for the forge and stoking the fire. so the blacksmith could sharpen two plow shears at same time,me heating one while he was sharping the other one. by eight years I had learned and had forge welded points on plow shares and toe bars on draft horse shoes. made shoes from scratch out of bar stock. at ten years i had shoed genital draft horses. I done this after school until dark and on Saturday's. if I had not told you all before My farther was murdered when I was just six years so had to help put food on our table. by twenty I had my own blacksmith and welding shop, witch I ran until I got drafted into the army. I made the rank of specialist e5 in thirteen months. should have stayed in military for a core. was in my MOS open to warrent officer two. possible i would made it in twenty two or three years. i would be able to draw up to 2500 $ now per month. oh well life goes on and I am still living a good life now. see you all tomorrow. sweet dreams.

Good morning everyone.
Well, I didn't sleep in this morning..laundry day today right after I get back from town. We will get in and get out before the sardine effect happens.

Lloyd, you're welcome. I, to can relate to a lot of what Paul Harvey says. Staying up late ,pulling calves.or lambs and then tryin to pump breath in them when they don't seem to want to breath. But you never give up on them.....some you win and some you don't. All in all farming is hard but the rewards are great!!

I had better get ready for town.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, had just the fan in the window last night, gave the AC a rest. 61° now at 6:30 am. Nice.

PHYLLIS  my Mom used whole yellow peas for her pea soup. That is what  I was used to but these days they are hard to find. Most of what they carry around here are the split green ones.

SHIRLEY  that insurance woman is a big pain to you. I hope one day she has to do business with someone worse than she is. Maybe if she was talking with a man she would have been nicer.

AMY  I look forward to cool fall temperatures on the first really warm day in spring. If I had the money and liked to travel I would winter in Australia where they are having winter. I love soup, too, as long as it is home made. Dislike can soups. I remember listening to Paul Harvey on the radio for years. He was great. I will read/listen to this when I finish reading here.

JANE  I am with you on certain pieces of ladies apparel. Why can't we just wear enough to be modest and comfortable.

LLOYD  you had so few years of life to be a child. We know you have worked hard all your life and still doing too much.

AMY great hearing Paul Harvey's voice again and his words are so true. What would we do with out the farmers? Hate to think about it.

Have a good day.

Good morning from Grand Rapids.  It is good to see that some people are awake and moving.  I just got up - it is 7:15 am - but I haven't done anything except heat water for my coffee.

I'll be back later; I just wanted to join the crowd.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  I slept really well last night and for the first time in ages I actually feel rested!  I changed my time for the Melatonin.  I didn't take it before I went to bed as it suggests on the bottle.  I went to bed tired and slept the usual 2 to 2 and a half hours and then had to get up and go.  Before I went back to bed, I took the Melatonin.  I slept soundly the rest of the night until the doggies stirred in the morning.  I think this will be my method from now on.

We're in for nights in the mid to low 60s and days no higher than mid 80s...my kind of weather.  I can take the 80s if it cools off later and earlier.

I haven't decided what to do today.  Maybe a little laundry, maybe bake something, maybe nothing.  I think I'll just take this day as it comes.  The last few have been so frustrating that I need to relax.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  Make it your own in every way!

I'm up & still bleary eyed, fed 2 cats but it is raining gently and even that scares Tom, so he is hiding out somewhere. My eyes are itching like it is fall (late fall). Tom came home wet, had breakfast & they are sleeping on the couch to keep an eye on me.

Amy, I also love the sound of Paul Harvey's voice & always thought he was SO smart. I had uncles (& aunts) that were farmers and from my first memories, thought they were such hard workers, up before dawn and went to bed at dark but knew they spent many nights up all night with a sick animal. I don't remember any ever being gone from their farms "because animals had to be fed and taken care of".

Jane, since Walmart is one store that is a regular stop for me, I think of you often as I watch the employees having to rush to cover because when someone retires they don't get replaced. I have no doubt your customers look for you, for help and just a friendly face. I know I come out of a store with a smile when I get a chance to chat with someone special. I'm going to mention your Melatonin to a couple friends that are having trouble waking up in the wee hours.

Gloria, I know if she had been dealing with Cas he would not have put up with her stalling. He had that stern look like Robert Ryan (remember him?) & at 6'2", nobody messed with him, not that she would have known what he looked like, but he did not have that "good ole boy" voice, either.  ;)  After 8:00 & I've been on this computer (back & forth) since 6:00. "Legs, get me moving........"  Who was it that used to say that on the radio?

Lloyd, my father didn't die when I was six but we had to move from Jefferson City (where all our relatives lived), to Sedalia, where "the shops" were. The war started & my Dad was transferred to the Signal department of MoPac. We had chickens for eggs & to eat, had a garden at the house & another on some land outside of town. With gas rationed Mom & Dad would drive out to take care of the big garden as often as possible & my youngest brother would stay home to take care of my sister & me. Dad could fix anything so everyone that knew him, including all the neighbors, came to him or called him to come to their house to repair what was broken, he never took a dime for helping. My brothers all had jobs, delivering papers & groceries, mowing lawns, my sister & I were expected to do what ever we could. I spent a lot of time feeding chickens to stay out of the house.

Think I'll join you with a cup of coffee, Mary Ann.... but I have to eat before I take a sip. Oatmeal sounds good this morning with a couple slices of toast. I'd love to go back to sleep but want to see if the insurance paperwork has run through the channels so I can clear off this table. I know it will be weeks before they start but have to find a place to park my elephant (RV) so the roofers can use the driveway.

Mary Ann

Shirley, I always have a peanut butter cookie with my coffee and that helps me wake up.  I just finished showering and shampooing and I'm back at the computer until I get tired of that.  Tom went out for breakfast and said he'd bring back a cranberry muffin from McD's.  I may fix another cup of coffee (hazelnut) and go on the deck.

I'm amazed at the work you other women do but wait until you're in your 90s and you might not be so ambitious.

Tom is home so I think I'll wake the cat and go out on the deck.  It is 71 here now.

Good morning,  Another pretty morning, but they still are predicting the scattered storms that they have predicted for  every day. So far, the rain has escaped our area.

Nice to see Lloyd, Shirley, Gloria, Jane, Amy and Mary Ann this morning. I have been up a while, but I see the morning is almost over.

I started a new medicine that is a low maintenance drug to help with the UTI to try to prevent  the problem.  Sure hope it works. I do feel a little better.

I might be able to get a few chores done today that I have been putting off.

Lloyd,  no wonder you are still a work-a-holic.  You have been working your whole life.  So sad about your dad's  death.  I think it is time for you to  just slow-down and enjoy your life.  My dad was very much ike you.  He started early in life working with his dad paving roads with horse and wagon.  He worked at that for many  years.  Later he built stone quarries and he was the main person for making sure everything worked well. He loved  working on concrete.

Mary Ann,  you are so right about slowing down the older you get.  Nothing seems that important like it did when I was younger.

Jane, I hope you will enjoy your day off.  And, it is ok just to wind up doing nothing.  That is what I do  a lot of days.

I also enjoyed hearing the story about the Farmer. I always liked the stories that Paul Harvey would tell. Always tried to listen to his show.

Shirley, sorry you are having so much trouble with them insurance company.  Those kind of things can be so frustrating.

Gloria,  I know you are one who does not like the hot weather, but I am just so sad when August arrives. I feel like that is the  beginning of the end of summer. And, it feels like it has hardly gotten started. I hate to think about almost time for school to start back. I was one Mother who hated to think about school starting.  The winter just goes on and on and on.  And, summer is so far away.  I know there are a lot of mothers who just can't wait for school to start back up. In always enjoyed having my kids home to do fun things with.

I need to get myself pulled together and see if I can get at least one thing accomplished today. I have been so lazy and tired for so many days now.

Have a pleasant day.

I went in to get dressed and make the bed and decided it was time to change the bed.  So far, the sheets and one set of pillowcases are back where they belong and the comforter and the other set of pillowcases are in the dryer.  Two pillows are in the washer and need to get into the dryer next.  Then I have a load of regular clothes sorted and waiting their turn by the washer.

Last load in the washer.  Gotta go make the bed!

Doesn't take long for a day to disappear . Hit the grocery store before it became too busy. Bought some sweet corn and my is it delicious. May go back tomorrow and get another doz to put in the freezer. Neighbour was cutting back limbs and I asked if he would take a dead one we had and ended up trimming our low branches on a few trees. We went over to his place when he was cutting more branches and helped load up. More hands make light work.

We had a lovely rain.thankfully after all the laundry came in off the line!! Thunder rumbled and that bothered Babe some but she is fine now.

Joy if you like yogurt, try eating a bit more of it..it helps with the UTI.

Think I shall head to the shower, just in case the storm comes back around or one is following..

Forgot to mention.
Lloyd, my Dad ate snails called periwinkles...there was no way I would eat that! He would get Mom to boil them up and have a bowl of vinegar with pepper in it and once the snail was picked out dip it  and down  the hatch..

Jane, I found a recipe for the pie so will try it .

well It looks Like Janes and i put us to bed. I never had a good Nights sleep, so I am marking my spot for today. hope you all had much better than I did. this old age is not what it is creaked up to be.wish I could move the feelings back at least ten years or more. Back where people had respect for one other. when we had displain a little switch across the back sides would get attention. and when a neighbor lady would see you doing wrong would grab you up and swat your but. and if you got a spanking at school and you were wrong you got another at home, and moms was harder than teachers. nether left back and blue spots, just got your brain to working better. Have a great day.
I am going to my easy chair and take a snooze i hope before the sun and or rain comes,we are supposed to get some today.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm just marking my place for later.  I have to be ready to leave for church by 7:40 and I have to take my shower and get dressed while the doggies wait for the boinger.  I hope you all have a special day!  Make it yours in every way!

I leave by 7:00, Jane, but an hour later than you. Fed cats & answered a couple e-mails already, but need to feed myself so I can take my aspirin. I don't take one every day but the only blood thinner my body can tolerate...but not on an empty stomach. My Fitbit band still has the little metal cylinder stuck where I cut that half of the band off so can't put on new band until I get that pulled out... & when I woke up during the night I had to sit up to see the clock. I don't do well with changes. :crazy2:

It is hotter here than any of the many weather stations I have on my Kindle... I am ready for WINTER! Wishing all a peaceful Sunday... Another killed just hours after the one in ElPaso.... crazy world.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

We lost our power for about 3 hours during the night from 3-6 am.. Now it is a lovey sunny day so far without the humidity.

A day of rest here..we do have to take the garbage to the dump later. This pup loves beans...not just the bean but the whole plant that he has been pulling out from the little side garden. Will fix that next year.

Better get a move on here also.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a bright sunny one and 72° now but humidity is not too high yet. Just heard we have a cold front coming and will cool us and drop humidity. That would be great if it happens. What is going on in this country, that shooting in Texas and just heard of one in Dayton, Ohio. If this keeps u p people will be afraid to go anywhere soon. Now here in RI people are being arrested for going onto "Private beaches" along the shore. It is posted no trespassing, private beach and some feel they have as much right there as those who own the property there. My FIL sold the home they had on the beach in Maine because people in town were starting to take over, even parking in his driveway. If he asked them to move they would say they pay taxes and can go where they want. Heck my FIL paid taxes there, too.

LLOYD  you are not a bad penny as far as I know, just a good one. You can have my share of snails.

JANE  well the days are already getting shorter, lost an hour of daylight so the sun will not be shining as long so maybe it will finally start getting to livable temperatures? 80° I can tolerate as long as humidity is low. Hopefully we had the worse heat in July this year.

SHIRLEY  there are still people out there that think women have no brains except those who give us a hard time.

JOY  if you remember JOAN had trouble with UTIs, too. Like you I liked  the times school was out  and my 3 were home. I hated it when they were back in school. I feel like I am lazy these days but there are so many things I can no longer do and my CNA keeps telling me not  to worry about it and I am not  lazy.

AMY  before my son picked me up on Wednesday we had a thunderstorm and thought I would not be going but it did not last long.

LLOYD  a smack on the backside or a slap on the hands never hurt the kids but today we could be arrested for child abuse. No wonder today's teens think they can do anything they want. Never were disciplined.

AMY  my son's last dog would go through the orchard to the crab apple trees and pluck a ripe one off and eat the whole thing. She loved them. If anyone was eating an apple she would sit there waiting for them to throw her the core and she loved it. She left the big apples alone, only went and picked the little crab apples.

Have a good day.

Shirley

Gloria, my neighbor had a big crab apple tree in their front yard, bushels of apple's on it every year. They would lay on the ground & ferment because they just couldn't keep up with the mounds of them.... so robins would eat the fermented apples, get drunk & run into the windows... often killing the birds. That tree (now owned by someone else) blew over in that storm that had the hail in it. My mother tried to make jelly with the crab apples they had but just too many worms. Don't think she tried more than once. They hated to waste anything, but mulberries & crab apples were over the top for them. Hope you get the cooler air.

JaneS

I've been to church, stopped at the Farmers Market on the way home and then a quick stop at WM.  I finally caught a manager and had a long chat.  Didn't solve my problem but we're working on it.

I'm now waiting for word from my sister as to whether they're coming up for my BIL's family reunion!  It kind of depends on how my BIL is feeling today.  I know he wants to come but it's a long trip if you don't feel well.  They don't have to drive.  My niece and her husband will drive but is's still hard.  He has lots of problems.

Haven't decided what I'm going to do today.  I'm open for suggestions.  If they are on the way, I'll go with them to the reunion.  I'm an honorary member of his family for the past 20 or so years.  If they don't come, I'll probably just goof off!

Jane: I hope you can get your problem solved with work.

Tomorrow, two grands come for a sleep-over. They love to visit and want to do any chore we ask - I can't think of anything this minute.

Evenings are beginning to cool at this time of the year and we are very happy about that fact.

One t.v. station here has called for a Be Kind day - to acknowledge and greet others and step up and help others who may need a helping hand.  Peace!

Mary Ann

This morning was normal for Dot and me, but about 2 pm, Tom's granddaughters came and the fun began.  Tom wasn't here but his former wife was here with the girls.  They're 2 1/2 years old (twins - red heads) and no quiet moments.  Their parents came about 2:30 with lunch for everyone.  I really didn't need anything to eat but I did manage half a sandwich.  They also bought a rhubarb-strawberry pie and who could resist that!  Everyone left about 4 pm and I'm ready for a nap.  Seeing the girls was the highlight of my day.

Friends of my folks had a fruit farm and my mother would make crabapple jelly from the crabapples and it was good.  Our area used to be a fruit farm too and there was a cherry tree in our yard and my mother made cherry pies - yum1

Good morning everyone, wow it is 58°. Wonderful. The cold front came through as predicted. Some places had quite a storm with it, strong winds and rain. One town just over the border in Mass. lost power and trees down, real mess. Of course tomorrow the humidity returns with rain for the next 3 days-so says the weather guessers.

SHIRLEY  most orchards have crab apple trees. I asked my son why and he said it helps with pollination. No one ever picked them. Like the rest of his trees they were sprayed so no worms.

JANE  glad you got to the manager, hope things improve now. I don't have the problems your SIL has but I know I would never be able to ride in a car for more than 30 minutes without having problems. Luckily none of my appointments are far and every time I go out it takes a couple of days to feel rested up.

CAROL  I would love to see a Manager be kind day here. We have a couple of people here who are very kind to anyone who needs a bit of help.

LLOYD  hope you finally got some good sleep.

Have a good day every one.

Good morning everyone.

Lovely day here 42° F at the moment but that will soon change. Love this weather for sleeping .

Work around the house today is about it for here.

Lloyd, I too hope you got some shut eye..

Mary Ann, we also had a strawberry rhubarb pie and yes they are delicious!!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was a lovely cool night here, too.  I slept better last night than I have in a long time!  It's still only 65 this morning and not supposed to go above 84.  Unfortunately, the humidity is expected to be in the 90s and that's bad!

GLORIA it's not my SIL with the health problems, it's my BIL!  And he did very well yesterday.  His only surviving brother also has health problems but they enjoyed a nice visit and that's what's important.

Today is a WM day and I have to be there by 9 so this will be short this morning.  I hope you all have a great day.  Make it your own in every way!
