Amy, there used to be a joke about someone not wanting to make a left turn, so he/she made right turns until they got to their destination.

I'm one who preferred to not make left turns off busy roads, but I had to sometimes, however, I tried to find a light where I could turn more easily.  And I liked the delayed signals.

Mary Ann

Shirley

Oh, YES, Mary Ann! That was the name I couldn't think of. That face & nose was painted on the back of his Model T...it had no top, had the front windshield that was split in the middle. This is the best "like it" photo I can find, but since Hal & Dad put it together from junk yard parts, it never had a top & probably other things different.  Right under Kilroy was very neat lettering "Constipated and Can't Pass a Thing"... embarrassed Mother but the neighbor guy that painted didn't paint it out. https://www.volocars.com/vehicles/14649/1927-ford-model-t-touring-convertible  ...Dad spent a couple years as a student at Rhey's Auto School in Kansas City from 1915-17, along with 2 of his brothers. The other 2 had their own businesses but Dad went back to work for MoPac RR for more than 50 years. Mother said he had his own shop but too many friends wanted his services for free, & he wouldn't charge them. He had a life long love of Fords, though. Dad could also hear a noise if something was wrong. I remember one time Cas & my brother had gone to KC to by us a car "over the block". Cas thought Hal was a good mechanic so trusted he knew if one was doctored. When they drove in I was at Mom & Dad's house and can still hear Dad with that clucking noise he made with his tongue "tsk-tsk..it's got a cracked block". Sure enough, was not long before they were putting a new engine block in that car! I know Norm loved cars as well, but think he liked style more than how fast they ran, didn't he?

Thanks for that link, Amy, sure was fun to see. I do think our birds are serious about going south early, don't you? Right now I am not hearing the local robins so think they may be gone already. We have waves of them come through until almost snow... I have not seen the "snow" birds (Juncos) so must be a little time away. Usually this time of year the grass doesn't need to be mowed but every couple weeks but we've had enough rain that it is as green as early spring again! Some of the trees are dropping leaves, not sure why.

I have taken that AARP 55 Alive defensive driving class every 3 years since I turned 65... we got a nice discount on car insurance when we had 3 vehicles, still take it for the one car & RV. One of the things it stresses is that the older we get the safer it is to make those right turns until you get where you want to be. I do my best but try to find stop lights when I have to make a left turn, especially with the elephant.

Better get busy, I type a little & sit & think. The days go too fast.

Carol

Love the stories of travel. On a trip to Florida, my dad noticed oncoming traffic heading for their ditch. The trailer had become unhitched and passed our car.  Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Don was driving us to Leadville in a heavy snowstorm. There was no on-coming traffic and it was so quiet.  We followed a young girl and stayed back as she was timid and we did not want to upset the driver.  Upon reaching top, the radio was playing "Nearer My God to Thee".  The road had closed behind us and no traffic was allowed to come down on our side.  We had a good friend from Leadville - his last name was Kitt.  Great story teller.

It would be nice to hear from Carolyn.

The first car I remember was a 1918 Buick Touring car that Dad had bought from his brother.  It had ising glass curtains (that you could roll right down) and was a huge thing.  When we moved in 1928, I rode with Dad to a used car place across the street from our church and Dad left the car there and we walked home, a distance of about a half mile.  When we moved, we had no car so a neighbor took Mother and me to the new house and Dad rode with the movers.  I don't remember the time frame, but one day Dad came driving up in the field next door and we had a Model T Coupe.  Our street was  being worked on which is why Dad came up in the field (which was a field for the next 20 years and we kids played in that field as long as we were kids).  My mother never liked that Model T because it sat up high and she said she felt so "prominent".

Another story that has nothing to do with the Model T - Mother had a winter coat that had a large fur collar, probably most women had the same style.  We would go down our street to Plainfield avenue and Dad could never see beyond Mother's collar.  Not only that, if Mother saw a car coming, she'd say "oh, oh" and Dad never knew what to think.  We never got hit anyway.

Carol, I think Carolyn posted here once a few years ago but said she had had an upset with someone and couldn't post in S&F.  Too bad because she is/was an interesting person.  I'm sure the girls are both married by now.  That must have been nerving to drive behind that young girl in a snowstorm.

Shirley, when Norm and I were kids - before driving - we used to see who could identify car makes and models first.  The ones that stick in my mind were the "turtles" - Dodge DeSoto and Plymouth La Salle.  Or vice versa.  Norm was not into racing vehicles but he liked the cars.  Whether for style or whatever, I don't know.  He sold cars from 1961 until he retired at the end of 1991, mostly new cars.  He also was manager of the new car sales until the dealership went out of business but he still sold cars after that.  Because of him, I was able to drive many model cars - Chevy and Ford, also I bought Chrysler cars when Norm worked at those dealerships.  I sometimes think I led a dull life, but when I think back on what I was able to do, I did not have a dull life!

We have discussed the lack of new members in S&F for some time.  This week a friend of Bubble signed up and a couple of us have welcomed him.  His name is Valtermar and he is from Brazil.  He writes excellent English and says his wife does not speak English.

His last post told of his interests.  I wish some of you in this folder would read his post, then maybe reply to it.  Besides being a "body", he is a male and we need both in S&F.  We could have some interesting discussions.

I've been visiting with my family for the past two and a half days and then I had to work this morning.  I'm really tired!  I've read everything and now I'm checking in and back out and I'm going in and watch a little TV through my eyelids until it's time to go to bed.

I hope you all have lovely days.
And you made them yours in every way(s)!

That "s" is just so it still rhymes.  Good Night!

i hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day!  It did not seem like a holiday around here.  We did pretty much the same thing we do every day.....a little bit of this and that and before you know it the day is over!

MARY ANN, I have looked and looked and I can not find the post from Valtermar.  I sure do welcome him, and hope that he will join in our group.

🎈🎈🎈🎈 WELCOME  VALTERMAR 🎈🎈🎈🎈

The last I asked about the girls, Carolyn told me they were both at the university.....no talk of marriage, but sadly, I do not know how long ago that was.  🙀  Maybe I should contact her and see if the person she did not care to communicate with may not post here any longer and she will come back and join us??  That sure would be nice!

JANIE, I sure hope you and the family enjoyed every minute you had together.

Loved reading all the comments about cars and learning to drive, etc.

CALLIE, I forgot to tell you that I got a good chuckle about you asking about the height of your flight........for sure, you lived way up higher than that plane was flying🤣🤣

I wish every one a good evening.

Guess it's my turn to turn out the lights. And a last prayer that all have a good sleep and wake up smiling!

Mary Ann & Bubble, where did our new member post?  For sure, we will be happy to welcome him. I remember when I first joined Senior Net and stayed away from the Discussions that seemed "too close knit". I'm not really bashful(that might be an understatement), but I reall am not pushy. My mother always told me that "when you walk into a room of strangers, look around for someone that looks uncomfortable or shy... see if you can make them more comfortable and all of a sudden you won't feel alone".... worked all my life.

 So if you come in here, WELCOME  VALTERMAR, from Shirley in the state of Kansas, USA.
  :hello:

so_P_bubble

Shirley, Valtermar is posting in the Welcome folder. I suppose he has to learn his way around.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept well last night and I think I might be ready to meet the day today.

I miss my family but they are all back to normal, too!  I'll be off to WM for my changed day.  I'm working today so I can have tomorrow off to take my neighbor/friend for tests.  It's one they won't do unless you have someone waiting in the office to drive you home and stay with you until you recover.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Good morning everyone. Not much time to sit here before CNA gets here. Had quite a storm last night and of course my internet, phone and TV all went out. Lights were on so I read and finished a book and didn't realize how late it was till I got into bed and looked at the clock-2:AM. Needless to say I woke very late.

PHYLLIS  I dread hurricane season and we don't get hit that  often here. I think of lives lost and property destroyed and mother nature at her meanest.

AMY  I always wanted to learn to drive and loved it when I got my license and drove all over. Traffic never bothered me till after I retired and only drove around town.

MARY ANN  I finally  learned to drive after I had my 3 children.

SHIRLEY looks like you got enough answers about Kilroy was here. I remember all the kids in the neighborhood started doing that in chalk all over the place.

I better get a move on, my CNA will be here in 15 minutes.
Have a good day.

Hello, you all!  Or is it all o ya'll? Anyway, I've been in up to my eyeballs all day today.  I don't know what I've been doing because there doesn't seem to be anything different around here..just the usual bedlam!

It seems like everyone here is also busy because no one's been in since Gloria cut out to get ready for her CNA.  And that was tis morning!

The weather felt just like Fall when I got up this morning but it warmed up and was a beautiful September day from about 10 on.  I picked 3 more tomatoes today and that's my lunch for tomorrow.

I also got out all the stuff for making a BIG batch of spaghetti sauce except the stuff that needs refrigeration.  And now, Tennessee Ernie Ford is doing his thing in my living room just to keep me company.  He's got to be one of my all time favorites.

I think I'll find an easy chair and relax a bit.  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend.

Well, here I am, talking to myself again!  I hope you all had a great day. with weather you could enjoy.  I did forget that I wanted to look in on the track of the storm before I go to bed.  I pray that everyone is safe and the storm turns back into the ocean as one reporter said it might today.

I just noticed that there's a picture of me in the margin that says it's from the PA Bash.  That's interesting!  I didn't know there were any pictures taken of me.  It says Beverly took it.  Neat!  it's always nice to be remembered.

Now I'm off to bed and I don't know if I'll be in tomorrow morning.  That's the day I have to take my friend for tests.  And then I have to make a trip to Susquehanna University (about 15 miles away) to pick up something from my grandniece that her mother sent up for me.

I wish you all a peaceful sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone...

Well, Janie at least you had a super nice person to talk to. :2funny:

Not sure what is happening ,I think hubby would like to go for a road trip. Wonder where he would like to go??? Guess I will know better when we come back.

Overcast today with the promise of rain here , may get a thunder storm also. My heart goes out to those in  the path of the hurricane and hope all will be safe.

Phyliss and Joy hope you both are well.

Have a great day everyone

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're all sitting here waiting for the doggie pill boinger and then we'll have breakfast.

My plan for the morning is to get the spaghetti sauce going so it can simmer while I attend to my friend's needs this afternoon.  I'm hoping to get one cannerful done when I come back from y quick visit with my grandniece.  She's in a different dorm this year so I have to mount a campus search to find her.  She told me that if I get lost and can't find her, stop where I am, text her and she'll find me.  Nice kid!

AMY, after you've been wherever it is you're going with Kyle today, I hope you discover that you liked it....wherever it it was.

I haven't seen what the hurricane is up to but I pray Everyfriend is safe!

I wish you all a lovely day!

I'm doing so much better.  Yesterday was a good day and I even made Bean with Bacon Soup in the IP.  That was the first actual cooking I have done in quite awhile.  It was so good..I'll do that again.

We still don't know what the hurricane impact will be to us locally.  We will get rain, for sure, starting tomorrow but how much, and how much wind, is still a question.  It (Dorian) will do what it will do so I am not getting too anxious about it.

I hope all are well and that life is being kind to you.

Good morning everyone, weather guessers are a t it again, one channel says rain tomorrow and another says thunderstorms late afternoon today. Will just wait and look out the window and see what is going on like we used to do.

JANE  looks like you turned out the lights and turned them on this morning. Is it that or do you like talking to yourself? How nice getting something from your niece when you drive to the college later. Hope your neighbor does great on this morning's tests.

AMY  the pictures on TV of the damage left behind from Dorian are horrible. Wonder how many died from it, that is always the worse part of those darn storms. Enjoy your mystery ride today.

PHYLLIS  those hurricanes can change direction at any time and I keep hoping it turns eat and blow itself out in the Atlantic with no more damage.

Goodness seems like every morning when I get here there are less posts than the day before. Our "family" is shrinking. Wonder how many read here but never take time to stop and say hello. We are a friendly caring group and everyone is always welcome.
Have a good day.

Tom has a friend who lives in Jacksonville FL and his work takes him to the Bahamas.  He is well enough off financially that he also had a place in the Bahamas.  He doesn't have the place any more, thanks to Dorian, and he told Tom he will not rebuild, but take the insurance money and when/if he has work there, he will rent something.

In contrast to the coastal states, we are going to have a nice day.  It will be cooler than what we've had and that will be nice.

I don't have an agenda for today, so if I do anything unusual (unlikely), I'll let you know later.

Amy

Helloooooo Helloooo won't you come out and play? Little Sir Echo how do you do

We are back home and tuckered. Well Kyle wanted to go to the city to look for winter boots..did a bit of shopping had a tummy full of Chinese and headed home. Weather was perfect for traveling with the dogs, overcast with a light drizzle at times. Nice to be home...I know I had a lot of work to do but tomorrow will do. :)

Mary Ann, I just can't imagine losing my home like that..yet many do and many rebuild.

Phyliss, the soup is even better the next day!! I also did a split pea soup and it too was good.

Gloria, I like this cooler weather, have a fleece sweatshirt on at the moment because pup will want to play frisbee and I need to cover up some of the vegetables as we may get frost tonight.

Washed all the doors and windows in here and need to do a few more windows.

Amy - Hello, Hello.

I always liked that song because it is so happy.  A friend and I often end up singing it when we're together.  And now I'll be singing it to myself the rest of the evening!

Mary Ann

Amy

Mary Ann, I can understand this as it is going through my head also. I listened to Bing Crosby sing it but like this peppy version of it.

Thanks, Amy, I had never heard that version of Little Sir Echo.  In my time, singers all sang the same songs regardless of who wrote the song.  I don't remember if Bing Crosby's version is what I hear when I sing it to myself or not, but it will be with me all evening.

Mary Ann

JaneS

I remember Maxine's version best.  She's the first one I ever heard sing it and she was in my class in school.  I never knew it was a popular song until many years later.

I heard from LLOYD and NANCY today.  They are spending the night in MY WalMart parking lot and I'm meeting them tomorrow morning for breakfast.  It'll be nice to see them again.  I'm really looking forward to it.

I hope you all have a peaceful night's sleep and wake to a happy tomorrow...and no hurricanes!

It has been a very L O N G day......up early to get down to Dave and Michele's to help get the children off to school so Michele could go to get her LAST dose of chemo done!  It was a rough couple of hours as the doctor was ove an hour late, then her pic line decided it was DONE and would not let them use it!  In spite of it all, the last of 12 rounds of chemo are DONE!  As I have already told you, she still has the Gamma Knife procedure to do in a couple of weeks.  This will be what we are calling "lucky #3" and then the radiation to the tumor on her lung.  A PET scan in a couple of weeks for a baseline. Then we HOPE and PRAY that ALL will be clear.  She will continue on oral chemo for more than likely the rest of her life.....which is acceptable IF they can do the job and allow her to raise her children and see them grown and hopefully raising families of their own, God willing🙏🙏🙏

I thank you ALL for your unconditional support for me and for your prayers.

AMY, I loved listening to your little Sir Echo....thank you for sharing this!  We have a reel to reel recorder that looks nearly identical to the one in your video!  We bought it in Germany over 50 years ago!  I am glad you and Kyle enjoyed your outing today.

YIPPEE.......JANE.  So happy you will be meeting up with LLOYD and Nancy tomorrow.  Please give them a big hello from me.

PHYLLIS, happy to read your post and to hear you say you are doing so much better.  I certainly hope Dorian will not cause you too much bad weather.

We picked Matthew up from school and got him to his football game.....Bob stayed with hm and I headed back to Dave's to be there to let the two little ones in after school.  I made a peach cobbler with fresh Palacade Peaches from the Western Slope......oh my, did it ever turn out delicious,  I have had two calls already about how good it was from two of the grands.....I sure hope Michele will feel like eating some tonight!  Oh, then I for got to say that a storm was brewing and the football game was cancelled.  Thank goodness Dave arrived in time to pick Bob and Matthew up so I did not have to go back and get them.

Pleasant dreams to all.....
