Todd Palin is publicly more into the outdoors and extreme sports whereas his wife is a rightwing conservative. If you look into her record from city council member to the mayor of Wasilla, to Governor, she rarely stayed longer than three months. Plus their disabled son lived separately from the rest of the family due to political travel. I'm not surprised they're divorcing.  "Sarah Palin's husband apparently files for divorce: "Impossible to live together"'

Just stopping by to say "Hello".

It has been a very lazy day so far.  Nothing accomplished that matters.  I sat down to read, and fell asleep and slept for over 2 hours.  And, I did sleep pretty good last night.

Jackie, I just feel so bad for you.  Over here in the states, we have what they call "Social Workers"  that can help out people who  are in the same boat as you are.  It does sound like your GP might be able to point you in the right direction.  Would you be able to sit down with her and tell her what help you need?   There just seems to be someone, who could help you. I am so sorry that you have such very "ignorant" neighbors.  I hate that word, but it sure sounds like that is the kind of people that you are living among.  One of these days, they all might be in the same predicament
that you are in.  Being KIND is one of the easiest things to do and doesn't cost anything.  I just feel so bad when I read your messages.

I just wanted to let you all know that I am alive and well.  LOL.

Have a great rest of the afternoon.

Denver

A good Monday HELLO to all!

Yesterday afternoon I wrote quite a bit on a post....got side tracked and forgot to come back....of course my post was gone.  I was so upset with myself that I just did not feel like redoing it....shame on me!  I just do not understand WHY I have not learned my lesson to keep doing a save, so this will never happen again🤬🤬. As most of you know, I write a post then personalize it to which place I want to put it.  So when I lost it, there was nothing for me to share here either!  I already seem to be missing a post from here that I know Imposted as some have commented.....no matter what, without a doubt it is operator error....🤬🤬

Now that I have that off of my chest, I hope you all are having a good day?

We do not have to go out for the grands until nearly 3 PM, so I have been doing a bit of this and that.  Got the sheets washed, then in the dryer.  It has s nearly time for them to be done, but before I go....I MUST SAVE MYPOST😤😤.

MARYLANE, belated HAPPY 85th BIRTHDAY WISHES to AJ!  Your family celebration sounded just perfect!  Mark called me this morning to tell me it is RAINING in CALI💥💥💥 Quite a surprise and there must be many happy people there today!

Thank you again, as always for the kind comments regarding Michele🥰🥰

JACKIE, there are NO WORDS to explain WHY there is not help for you and others in your same position.....it proves that we just do not realize how hard it is for one to know exactly what needs to be done after a significant other passes on.  I am angry that you would not be entitled to Richards pension just the same as a married couple would be IF your state recognizes common law situations.  Oh karma will come back to haunt those that can not be kind to their fellow man!  It does seem that your GO is negligent in not recognizing that your condition does certainly qualify you for extra help....but where is it?  Many here think that EVERYTHING is covered in your country due to your government sponsored medical coverage!  I am sorry......hang in there and just keep doing your best to get things done!

This weekend was a bad one for our sports teams.  Our college fav and our Broncos both lost....as much as I would like to say this does not bother me....IT DOES!  I truthfully wish I could just never watch or care about my teams again....but it isn' going to happen as my hubby is going to watch them all....and as I have done for many years, what he does, I do too.  Enough on this!

Bob decided it was time for him to harvest his potato growing project yesterday.....and boy did we enjoy the crop!  They were really tasty.  He did this on the spur of the moment when I discovered my taters had grown quite the sprouts on them.  He got quite a kick out of watching them grow, and we enjoyed the end product.

I know there were other things I commented on yesterday that I am forgetting.....but I must away and get the sheets back on the bed.

Enjoy your day💞

Jenny

Jackie, one more suggestion, one I haven't seen - because of my age and what can or could happen, my family bought me a chair to put in the tub so I would sit instead of stand in the shower.  It's awkward at first, but I've gotten used to it.  The chairs are not expensive.  Maybe you already have a chair.

Jenn, I'll bet you did enjoy those potatoes.  It isn't often that city dwellers can feast on their own home-grown potatoes!

Much ado about nothing!

On September 16, 1942, I started working in the Transformer Repair Shop for Consumers Power Company.  That was 77 years ago and I was there for 43 years and 9 months.  Consumers Power was/is the largest utility in Michigan, covering most of the lower peninsula of the state.  I worked in the office, various offices, all of those years.

Good morning, Every One looking in.  It's another very hot and sunny day here in Auburn.  I need to get my walking duds on and get outside for my morning walk before it gets even hotter.  We're expecting Temps in the high 90's today, maybe higher.

I hope all who read here are feeling well and having a good start on your day.

Denver, I'm doing sheets today too.  An awful job...I have Kingsize bed.

Good morning Jackie, Tomereader and Sue.  It is going to be warm here too, in the 80s all week until next weekend it will go into the 70s.  Still nice temps.  Tomereader, we can't hang clothes out at our condo but I remember doing it when I was alone at my previous houses.  Loved it!

I must start packing today or Friday will be here before I know it and i would have nothing done.

My eyes aren't working right this morning; I can see to read but - just!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I took note of your message yesterday, that the date marked 77 years from when you started your job with consumer Power. That is so nice that you stayed for your whole working career.  I'm sure you have a nice retirement, if it's as good as the utility companies here in California.  We had a couple of friends who worked their entire lives for PG&E, (Pacific Gas and Electric), and always said the weekly paycheck wasn't that great, but it paid off well in retirement!

Tome - It's almost impossible for me now, to wash and fold my queen size sheets, so I doubt I could handle the king size at all.  For one thing, I still have an old top loading washing machine, so the bigger the sheet, the more likely it is to get twisted around the center agitator.  Last month I got behind in my washing, so decided to take them to the laundry, and have them washed, ironed, folded, etc.  I took four Q size sheets . . . two tops and two fitted bottoms.  When I picked them up a week later, the cost was $60 . . . $15 per sheet!  :yikes:  So I will continue to struggle with them at home, for as long as I can manage!

Patricia - Did you happen to watch the NBC News last night, with Lester Holt?   He was broadcasting from Fairbanks, doing a story on Global Warming.  It was very well done I thought.  Showed lots of photos of glaciers, lakes, etc., now, compared with what they looked like when he lived there in the 1970's. What a difference.  His father was in the Air Force, and was stationed there in the 70's, so Lester lived there for four years when he was a young boy. There will be more tonight, so if you have a chance to tune in or watch online, it might be interesting to you.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, let's just say I have a comfortable retirement and that and my SS allow me to do what I want.  I'm not a big spender and my needs are few at this age, so the two pay my bills and sometimes even save a few dollars.  I was low as far as employee levels were concerned.  If I were to apply to the company now at entry level, I would not be accepted because I do not have a college degree.  I did work my way up the ladder, but there were still many levels above me.  I'm happy with my pension which has changed only once since I retired and I ask only that the company get the money in the bank each month.  They have so far!

I have regular, double sheets and I was able to handle them when Tom took over.  Tom has a hard time too but I think folding sheets isn't in his job description.  He folds them but I let Robin put things in the linen closet because she folds smaller and neater.  I wouldn't even attempt to fold a sheet now; my arms are too short.  Towels seem to be my limit!  $15 a sheet is ridiculous but it must be hard for laundry employees to fold sheets too.

We're headed for a nice day and week.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Marilyn, Paul is scheduled to arrive at Duluth in a short time.  It is raining there and he/she is just visible on the horizon.  Four people are there to watch Paul come in but I know there will be a crowd by 12:30 pm my time.

Good Morning,

Mary Ann,  thanks for the "heads-up" on Paul.  I missed seeing her come through the canal but caught a good view (through the fog) on the Bayside cam.

Marilyne,  what did you think about the Ken Burns "Country Music" program?  I didn't realize it was going to be on consecutive nights.
Toss-up last night between that and the premiere of DWTS.  I decided on the documentary but caught the last dance on DTWS and was glad to hear the judges say they were going to look for ballroom dancing this season instead of "showy" presentations.  Last season went a bit over the top with those, IMO.
Tonight's "Country Music" episode will be during my era.  1943-1957.  I'll probably be tapping my foot and singing along.  ;)

P.S.  Thanks for the Sooner Support.  They did really well.   OU won't play LSU unless it's a bowl game so A.J. can comfortably go along.

Sunny but really humid around here today.
I needed what my kids used to call "big groceries" (i.e., restock the supplies).
Have you ever heard the old southern saying that "Horses sweat, men perspire and ladies glow"?
I was definitely "glowing" by the time I got everything into the house.  ;D

Time for the noon news and lunch.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

angelface555

Marilyne, I haven't seen the online version of Lester Holt's show. Perhaps it will be on later? I'm glad you saw it and hope it had a wide audience.

MaryAnn, I hope you enjoy this year's Indy trip! I can't say I worked longer than thirteen years in any position. I can say that all of my posts but two, were working twice for the same companies. I spent the majority in middle management in retail and hospitality positions. The only job I left early was as a night auditor for a hotel. I wasn't able to sleep well during the day and any appointments I had, were in the middle of the day even after I requested early morning times.

I saw Paul coming in for a bit but will await the YouTube version as they have the radio messages and show all three cams in one video.

I only use the bottom fitted sheet and a down comforter, so I've yet to have any issues. The issue here is that the maintenance is abysmal since the state took over. We've had ongoing problems with all five laundry rooms, and none of the dryers actually work correctly. The last two laundries I attempted, I brought everything home and hung it over things to dry. I am unable to drive, so an offsite laundry is out.

I hope everyone is having a beautiful day, not too warm or cold. All of our trees are losing their leaves, and it is down into the fifties and sixties with morning frost. The early fall weather is an anomaly and is getting air and print time with local news.

Farrah turned seven on September twelfth according to her original microchip. I only remembered it on the fifteenth so gave her extra time with her cat grass.

Mary Ann

Patricia, the only thing I've done in packing for my trip is I have the suitcase on my bed.  It doesn't have anything in it, however, I would not be surprised to find a cat sleeping in it.

When I was in Germany and Denmark in 2000, people there used only the bottom sheet and down comforter.  That would not work for me because I do like something over me and a sheet does the trick - that is, in summer.  In winter I also have a blanket.  I think the comforters are supposed to be light weight, but in hot weather, they're too heavy for me.

I'll bet Farrah didn't care which day you celebrated her birthday as long as she got more time with her grass.  And a belated birthday greeting to her.

You know that any time the government gets involved with something, the service deteriorates.  And you're paying for it, good or bad.

I'm waiting for Robin to come to tell me what she did with a bag I take to Indy with me.  Also I want her to find some plastic containers to put some of the stew in so I can put them in the freezer.  And she'll have to wash out the inside of the Crock Pot since I had to use the old one that does not have a removable insert.  That'll keep her busy for a few minutes.

Tom thinks I'm losing my memory because I had absolutely no recollection of the conversation with him and/or Jan regarding my childhood cabinet going to Jan's friend for painting and then to the twins.  I am glad to let the girls have it; it's only 90 years old +\-.

Mary Ann

angelface555

MaryAnn, I use the comforter mainly in winter. I'm overly warm even with cooler temperatures and often the comforter ends up on the floor due to what my ex used to call my wild child sleeping habits. Anyway, in the summer it remains folded on a small bedside shelf.

I posted two pet videos, on-site, one on how to pet a strange cat and an ongoing live video on five new kittens who are now just over a week old

Marilyne

Mary Ann, I can picture Kendrick, curled up in your suitcase . . . especially when you get it packed about half way, so it's nice and soft.  Cats love any kind of container that they can get into.  When will you be leaving for Indy, and how long will you stay?

Patricia - When I'm sleeping, I clutch the top sheet in both of my hands, and hang on all night!  So when I roll from side to side or to my back, the sheet goes with me.  Needless to say, after a week, the top part of the sheet gets limp. wrinkled and slightly soiled - from sweaty hands, lotion, etc., so it has to be changed at least once a week, and sometimes more often.  I'm afraid a comforter alone, would have to be washed too often . . . which is a lot more trouble than washing a sheet.

Callie - I was too late to see Paul, but I notice on the schedule that he will be leaving again in a few days, so hope to see him then.   YES, we are both enjoying the Ken Burns Country Music documentary on PBS!   I had never heard of most of the entertainers/musicians, on the first night,  but last night I recognized a lot more . . .  of course Gene Autry, Minnie Pearl and  Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. "San Antonio Rose", is one of my all time favorites.  I am looking forward to tonight, in hopes of seeing Hank Williams, and others I remember from that era.

Hello to  Joy, Jenny, Jackie and Beverly!   Beverly, I guess you are home from your vacation?   I hope Donna is doing well?

angelface555

Marilyne I also wash weekly, but my down comforter is in a cover so it is just unbuttoned and the cover was thrown in the wash with my sheet and used towels. I don't hang on to the comforter but I have awoken in all sorts of odd positions in the morning. I must be running dream marathons.

I think cats like the warmth and our scent, which is why they want to be in or on our suitcases, dirty clothes baskets, or in Farrah's case, with her head by my shoes.

MarsGal

A little excitement today! I switched from FIOS back to Comcast. I am paying less and getting more, it looks like. Bought my own modem/router this time. I usually do, but for FIOS I just rented.

My phone decided not to take incoming calls, so I had to reset the new router. I think that was because I disconnected the phone to place it closer to the computer. That required running the wire behind the steam radiator. The only other issue I have right now is that my 10" tablet isn't getting an authorization to connect. Interesting, because the 8" one did just fine. My TV is even better than with FIOS. I swear they set me back to 790p resolution when my TV takes 1090p. AND, I have a voice activated remote. Whoopee!

Mary Ann, I missed Appledore IV very early this morning when it went up the St. Clair. It would have been too dark to see it anyway. I guess it is heading back to Bay City.

Denver

Just dropping in to say goodnight.

Michele had her PET scan today......she will see her doctor tomorrow and I certainly hope and pray that there is nothing new that shows up!

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY to FARRAH KITTY.

MARY ANN, I hope Robin finds your bag for you and you can get packed up to be ready on Friday.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning to all!  So sorry I have been neglecting you all.  I think about you, but just do not get in here & write.  I was so very sorry to hear about Larry.  He was such a nice guy.  I wonder how his wife is making out, now that she is all alone.  And I did see the article that he wrote about his life.  How nice that was.  I was also grieved to see the passing of June and Linedance lady.  It seems you all lost a lot of people all at once.  :'(  I am doing good, getting stronger every day.  Only thing left is my sense of balance is off a bit.  I hope that comes back to me.  I go back to cancer doctor in December - I think he wants me to have another Pet Scan, just to keep check on the cancer.  I guess that is a good thing, but regardless of what it shows, I doubt if I will go thru Chemo again.  That was really horrid and, afterall, I am 86 years old.

I hope everyone is doing good, and Mary Ann I see you are traveling again - wishing you safe travels & do have fun my dear.

shirleyn
(~_~)

Mary Ann

Shirleyn, it's good to finally hear from you.  We miss people when they are absent.  I hope your PET scan in December shows nothing.  Yes, we lost a few people in a short time this year.  June was 94, Gloria de 95 and Larry in his 80s.  In addition, I lost two friends from church, ages 94 and 95.  There still are three people that I know of at church who are older than I am.  And we keep on getting older!

I see Alex Trebek has gone on chemo again.

I have to start packing in earnest today, however, we're not going to leave too early Friday morning to connect with the other Tom.  On the other hand I'm going to shower and shampoo before we leave.  My usual day for that is Saturday, but Tom H does not have a grab bar on his bathtub and I don't feel comfortable any more without one.  He bought an old house years ago and remodeled/restored it and used what was usable and didn't put in a grab bar.  Anyway, I'd better do much today and tomorrow.

I will be taking my computer with me, so if I get a chance, I'll check in.  Tom H has something to do on Saturday that I might not be with him, so that might be a good time to let you know how things are going.  Anyway, I'm only going to be gone until Monday.

MarsGal, I'll check when I'm finished here to see if I can find Appledore IV.  For years I had AT&T as my server but Tom decided it was too slow for him (he works out of here) so we changed to Comcast.  I was reluctant because I had heard tales of people having trouble with them, but we changed and so far, so good.  I don't feel things are any faster with Comcast, but I'm not doing a job with it.  He's happy.

Jenn, my bag was found, in fact two of them, and both were empty.  I did find a "baggie" with makeup stuff in it and I think that is what I need.  The contents were not as important as the containers because what I use daily is in containers too large to take with me.

Jenn, best wishes to Michele when she gets a report today.

Patricia, I too think cats like our scents because Kendrick often is on my bed and he used to go in the bathroom to sleep on some slippers I don't use.  He doesn't go in there now so I think the scent has worn off, but it is there on my bed!  So is the cat!

Now I'll see what else is going on in S&F.  I always come here first.

Good late morning from the Interior where we are in the midst of three days of fog and steady rain. Just as the water levels began to go down. Yay...

I did find out something interesting from some medical tests I had about my osteoarthritis severity. This is probably only news to me, but whereas I imagined blood clots or other ills, it turns out to be a lack of magnesium. So now I'm on a supplement and in just three days I see a decrease in symptoms. So far its a morning dose with food along with B complex, vitamins D and C and folic Acid.

In the winter, I double dose vitamin D because of SAD symptoms. If you find yourself experiencing depression or "cabin fever" during the long cold and dark winter days, before paying for fancy lights and other expensive curealls, have yourself tested for a vitamin D deficiency.

If you're low, taking a simple supplement will eliminate most if not all of your depression symptoms. You just need to cut the dosage in half during the summertime. I prefer natural foods for vitamins, but that isn't always possible, and I stay clear of expensive vitamins and find mine locally.

I'm going out to lunch with Dora and Tamra before Tamra leaves for her yearly monthlong visit to Odesa, Ukraine to visit family and then we plan to do some shopping.

Mary Ann

#15085
Patricia, I have been taking Vitamin D for years and I have not had symptoms you describe.  So I've been doing a good thing without realizing it!  I don't think I have any ailments that are unusual, fortunately.

Tom and I went to the New Beginnings Restaurant for lunch.  I had ham on a sub which was very good.  As usual, I ate half and brought the other half home for supper.

Marilyn, something unusual with your last post - it showed under Jackie's name.  All at the left side pertains to Jackie, picture and all, but the message is in your usual green.  But some of the message sounds more like Jackie than you.  Is a puzzlement!

I'm leaving Friday morning and will return Monday afternoon.  I am sure the cat knows I'm going to be gone because he has been clinging to me for a few days.

After computing, I will head for my suitcase.  I don't watch any TV on Wednesday evening so it is a good time to do things - like packing.  I haven't found a cat in my luggage yet!

What a lovely day and we are to have the same the rest of the week.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Patricia - I was also too by my doctor a few years ago, that I needed to take a Vitamin D supplement. I don't remember the details now, but just that it was very low.  I've never had one of those Dexa bone scans, but I know I have osteoporosis, without taking one of those.  I'm small boned, and now looking smaller boned than ever in the past year!  I do take a 1000 mg of Vitamin D every day, plus vitamins C and B-50.

shirleyn - Good to see you checking in, and happy to hear that you're feeling well.  You will likely have to have the PetScan once or twice a year, forever more.  My husband AJ, has to have one six months after his surgery, which was in August.  Then if it looks good, he can go for a year before the next one. Yes, everyone misses Larry, here in S&F.  He was such a nonjudgmental, kind person.  His positive attitude toward both life, and death, never wavered.

Mary Ann - There was a short article about Alex Trebek, in the paper this morning.  He's apparently not doing so well, and is going through another round of chemo.  When I watched Jeopardy one night last week, after not seeing it for awhile, and I could tell by his face, that he had lost a lot of weight.

I just saw your message, that my last post looked jumbled?  Like a mix between Jackie's and mine?  It looks okay to me?  Anyone else who see's it, let me know what you see?

Jackie - How does it look to you?

Joy

Good afternoon. I am late getting in here today.

I just have no "get up and go", and I am just so tired.  I know that is a lot of my own fault, as I just don't push myself.  I think that I just have no priorities and it is just too easy not to do anything.  Each day I get up and think what I want to do, and the day just flies by and I get nothing done. I know, same old, same old.

I did just make a bowl of Suddenly Salad for my dinner, along with something else, yet to be determined.

Marilyne and Callie,  I have been watching the PBS show about the COuntry Music, also.  Last nights was really good.  I wasn't too keen on the first show, as I had never hardly heard of so many of the ones that were mentioned.  Except for the Carter family and the mother. And, wasn't June, the daughter, married to Johnny Cash.  I was wondering if she was still living.  I think the rest of the series will be more interesting. Patsy Cline was one of my very favorites. Ken Burns always does a good job.

One of my daughter-in-laws used to live in N.C. and she danced with a country dance group and they used to travel around the country.  There were times when they would be in with a country singing group and she got to meet up with Ricky Scaggs several times. She sill goes to several fiddler conventions every year and dances with a group called the Green Grass Cloggers.

Jenny, sure hope that Michelle gets some good news today.

And, Mary Ann,  hope you have a nice trip and the weather is great !

And, Shirleyn ,  good wishes to you for a good PET scan report.  I have one of them about every 6 -9 months and the one I just had in August was very good results.  Everything stable and no evidence of anything new  !   It is a good feeling.

I hope everyone else is doing well and will have a nice evening.

Marilyne, this is the next day (Weds.) from when I posted.  Got all the sheets but one, which was the fitted.  Since I was out last night (to GriefShare meeting) I decided to wash the last one this morning.  Its done, now drying, but the folding will be hilarious.  It took me about30 minutes yesterday to fold the flat (King sized) sheet.  I just kind of tossed it on the bed, and in increments got it laid out flat, then proceeded to fold. I also washed the light cotton bedspread, but it was easier because I just did the "toss" and put it back on the bed, no folding required!
I have been watching the "Country Music" special on PBS, it is wonderful. Of course, Ken Burns doesn't seem to mess up his documentaries.  I have his "Civil War" one on DVD.
I don't know how you and AJ feel about comedy/comedians, but on AmazonPrime, Jim Gaffigan has a one hour "concert".  Where most comedians today are foul-mouthed and nasty, he is actually funny.  Only bad language might be ahell or dam, but I laughed till my sides hurt.  His comedy reminds me of the type of standup Ellen Degeneres used to do. If you need some funny, give him a try. He's not a "household name" in comedy per se, but he's good. (you don't have to watch the whole thing at once if you think an hour is too long).
Monday was my first day of PT for this shoulder/arm rehab.  After two sets of casts then a brace, I'm glad to be able to have just the arm hanging down. Anyone who has had shoulder surgery will know how awkward, painful, frustrating it is.  I hope you and AJ are doing well.
