MarsGal, thanks for the link to the second PH site.  When they made the first change, it was put in the Chat area.  After a couple of times, there was a notice that the link was changed again, but no link and the only one I had that worked was two nights old.  Also, on the MC Chat either this morning or last night, someone told Boatnerd to take over so I did not know if he had joined their group.

Marilyn, I was not watching Jeopardy last night, but sometimes when GR is mentioned or there is a person from our area, it shows up in the news.  If something shows up, I'll let you know.

Jean, enjoy your coconut cream pie.  I hope it's as good as ours have been.  I watch the end of CBS News.  I like Norah O'Donnell, but I liked the men who had the program too.  I did not feel any of them made CBS News low in the rankings.  Friday nights I like to watch Steve Hartman with his human interest section.

Marilyn, when I hear home prices in California, I shudder.  A great-nephew lives in North Hollywood and is a film and/or TV writer.  He's only 32 and has been out there ever since he graduated from high school at 18 (so, 14 years).  He's the one who married a Chinese girl (US born), has a son and a baby on the way in November.  I wonder what he pays for their apartment.  With two children, I am sure he'll want a house one day, however, I understand they have a park nearby.

Tim's former wife is delighted that her daughter is pregnant; this will be her only "blood" grandchild.  Her son died at 20 and she and Tim were older so had no children.  She was good to Tim's children but they did not live with them.  This one will be in the South Pacific.

Today is six months to the date i lost my Richard 11th April and this Sunday i am to be collected by the only one voluntary driver who  will venture out to my home to take me to the annual crematoriums remembrance of our loved ones service, so this will be a make or break day for me as to how this will leave me feeling, it can go either way, a release and now move on, or a fall back... I am to be specially seated in the front rows and was asked to come in half hour earlier ( due to my MS disability ) and to be placed near to where i was sitting just five months ago reliving the day we said goodbye to Richard...Please i ask you to hold me in your prayers on this day ( this Sunday 13th ) as i relive one of the saddest days of my life over again...
This is the same crematorium i held my Richards farewell to be with our God service...
" There is no present like the time "

Marilyne

Jackie - The service on Sunday, will be nice for you, and it's good that you're attending. It will help you to accept Richard's passing, and to begin to heal and move forward, as he would want you to do.

Joy

A good late morning.

I know I have not been here for a few days.   Nothing special going on, and I get busy and just forget to come here.

Jackie, I am so happy that you will be able to get to the special service on Sunday.  I hope it will help you to be able to accept Richard being gone just a little better.  It will be hard, I am sure, but maybe it will help.

It has been chilly in the mornings here, but the afternoons have been very pleasant.  It won't be too long before I will have to turn the furnace on full time.  I've only had to turn it on a couple mornings when I first get up.  The rest of the day stays nice.

I hope all the friends here will have a wonderful week end.

Good morning, All you Bait and Tacklers.  I've been out to the library and to Kroger for grocery shopping.  My young friend, Eddie, comes over to my house on Friday mornings to drive me to both places. I made a pie yesterday for him to take home to share with his room-mate.  He was really happy to get it.  I hope he saves some for Dan who works at AU daily and will be at work when Eddie gets home.

Not much else going on here today.  I'll fix lunch shortly and plan to spend most of the day reading a new book from the library.

Have a nice day, all you Bait and Tacklers!

I just woke up from a nap and I'm still not awake.  It is drizzling here and I think the beginning of our weather getting colder.    Jeanne, I don't understand the reading you posted.  My last BP reading was 137/70 and I didn't get a pulse rate.  As long as my doctor is happy with the reading, I am happy.

Meatloaf sounds good, but I doubt Tom would attempt one.  He likes to cook, but I think he is more of a short-order cook.  We have a lot of chicken and he does a good job with chicken in the Instant Pot.

I just looked at Lake Michigan at Grand Haven and there were a lot of whitecaps so it is windy.

Good afternoon from the Interior with no rain or snow so far today. However, the foothills are foggy with overhangs of snow clouds.

My blood pressure has always been at 90/60, and I believe Larry was the only one I knew who had similar low pressure.

Good morning, Every Bait and Tackler looking in this morning.  It's going to be another scorcher here in Auburn, Alabama today.  I need to get dressed in my walking duds and get outside before it gets unbearably hot.

Good Morning Everyone . . . special hello to SCFSue!  I see you're the first one to check in here today.  Nice to see you making this folder a regular stop.  I hope your long spell of hot weather will soon end, and Fall will finally arrive.

Instead of a day late, I was a day early yesterday!  I went the entire day thinking it was Saturday, and as a result, I actually got a lot done around the house.  Saturday is our day to stay home, because of the horrendous weekend traffic and packed stores, so it's usually the one day of the week that I actually accomplish something. It wasn't until dinnertime that I realized it was Friday, and I had missed $5 Friday, at Safeway.  Always lots of things for $5, that are ordinarily much more.  Oh well, another Friday will roll around quickly,  and I'll be ready!

So here it is Saturday, and I think this is a long weekend again?  Not sure, but I think the PO and Banks are closed Monday for Columbus Day?  Used to be a holiday, but has now fallen on "hard times".  Seems that Columbus himself, mistreated the American Indians, so that now makes him a bad person, by today's standards.  Never mind that whatever happened, happened way back in 1492, when "Columbus sailed the ocean blue". The thing I always wonder, is - how do they know these things?  Oh well, no use arguing or even speculating about it - all statues named after Columbus have been removed, and any schools or parks have b been renamed.  ::)  I'm sure this is only in California, however?

Good morning on a nice Saturday morning.  I was here earlier but had just gotten up and had done nothing worth reporting.  I still have done nothing except compute but I'm here anyway.

Tom offered me some scrambled eggs but I'm not ready to eat the minute I get up, so I refused them earlier.  A few minutes ago, he came in with some cinnamon rolls (tube) and I had a couple of them.  They tasted good.  Neither of us is a breadmaker so the tube variety goes over good.  I'm not one of those who refuses to eat frozen or bakery stuff because it doesn't taste as good as Mother used to make.  I've read that from a poster or two in S&F.  While my mother wasn't the greatest cook, we ate well and never went without a meal in the Depression.

Marilyn, I've had days like that, thinking it was a certain day, only it wasn't!

I wish people would leave history alone.  Things happened and applying today's thinking to past history is not going to make it go away.  We can get ourselves back to Biblical times if we work at it.

Time to see what others are doing.

Good Morning from a sunny and cold central Oklahoma,

Will soon be watching my OU Sooners vs Texas Longhorns football game.

Need to take care of laundry during commercials and half time.

Those will be my Projects du Jour.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Tomereader1

Watching the TX/OU game right now.  Like the man says, "it's not my circus, not my monkey", so whoever wins-wins.  I guess I'll cheer on your side Callie; just hope it is a good game for both teams.

Mary Ann

I'm not watching college football; I'm just not a football fan.  I did watch Rick Steves in Sicily and enjoyed that.  Armchair travel.

For two nights, I did not sleep good but last night was a good night.  I'm ready for a nap now but I'll wait an hour or two.  The cat has a head start.

Tom is doing my laundry.  He is planning to go to the UP on Wednesday for overnight and he wants to get things cleaned up before he leaves.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Tome, thanks for the support.  :)  Obviously, I loved the first half but know better than to expect second half not to be a challenge.

Managed to get one load of laundry done and in the dryer - and another one started.  Put the one in the dryer on "wrinkle care" cycle because I might not get back to it until after the game.

Mary Ann,  I've always liked Rick Steves.  Does he have new shows or are they reruns?

Marilyne

Callie - I'm also cheering for your OU Sooners!  Late today or this evening, LSU, will be playing one of the Florida teams?  At the same time, Oregon St U, will be playing, but can't remember against which team??  Anyway, we will have those two on for sure.

Mary Ann - Last night was a sleepless night for me also!  I finally got up at midnight, and read until 1:00, and then fell asleep. I continued to wake up off and on, until I finally gave up and got up once and for all at 6:30.  I keep meaning to ask you if Tom, will be substitute teaching this semester?  I know he has enjoyed most of the schools where they have sent him, and last year he taught for a few days in one of the schools he attended as a child.  I sure would like to see the classrooms where I went to school in the 1940's and early 50's.  Being as they are all in Southern California, I don't think that will ever happen.

Callie, I'm not sure about regular Rick Steves' programs, however, I did notice the one I saw today was in 2018; so many of them are four and more years old.

Patricia, thanks for the link to South Haven.  I think I have it, but I usually only look at Grand Haven because I am familiar with that area.  The waves look treacherous at both South Haven and Grand Haven.  We are predicted to have 35 mph winds tonight.  If anyone wants to watch Grand Haven, click on the link at the bottom of my post.  If you get the summer scene, go down and the LIVE scene will show.

Marilyn, right now Tom is not subbing because he is working on a website for someone and that pays better than subbing.  He has enjoyed teaching and I am sure he will get back into it before the season is over.  My grade school is still standing and I think there hasn't been too much remodeling; I helped open it in 1929.  It was a Magnet school for a while, but is now a grade school again.  My high school in name is no longer, however, the building is there.  The last time I was there was for our 50-year reunion and I've been out of school 78 years now and retired for 33 years.  Time does fly!

I heard this about schools - They build schools because there are a lot of kids in the area.  The kids go through the grades and on to higher schools and soon there are no children for the schools.  The reason is that the parents like the area and stay in their homes regardless of the fact they have no children to go to the neighborhood school.  That is what happened to Aberdeen School (my grade school) but it seems new families were able to move in, enough families with children so Aberdeen is a working grade school.

Always great to Beat Texas!

Mary Ann. My PBS station no longer shows Rick Steves in prime time. Will need to look at daytime schedule.

Neither my elementary nor my Jr/Sr high school are standing.  Town built a school complex with big athletic fields. Great improvement but I wish they could have found uses for other buildings.

Guess I'd better tend to laundry now that football is done.

Callie, our PBS station has some offshoots and when I find Rick Steves, it is purely by accident.  I do think he is on Saturdays at various time.

Denver

A good Saturday HELLO💕

SHAME ON ME......I have been in here several times, starting to post then get interrupted and by the time I get back my post is gone!

We are enjoying a warmer day after our snowstorm and a drop in temperatures 60+ degrees during the storm!  Crazy Colorado weather🤪

PATRICIA, the Halloween video you shared sure is a detailed one.....I watched it a couple of time and could not believe all that was going on.  Thank you for sharing this!

JACKIE, I have been thinking about you and certainly hope you get to the crematorium memorial service safely tomorrow.  I know it will be a very emotional time for you but I hope and pray it will give you some peace as well.  I know the time has not passed quickly for you as you have struggled with every single day, but I can not believe it has already been a half of a year since Richard passed🦋.

MARILYNE, our Matt is a very confident young man, and I do think it shows! 😘  No, Matt is not the quarterback, but he should be due to his size❣️  He is a defensive tackle.....but he did get quite a few hits this year.  As you know, I was rather worried about him playing tackle football.....I, and his mama, would prefer he stick with his tennis as he is a very good player and there is pretty much no risk of major injuries!  😩❣️

I am sorry that I have not commented to everyone that said something to me.  I am going to do my best to not get this behind again.

Enjoy your day,

Jenny

We had a beautiful day.  The days are getting cooler.

I've never lived in a place that put up so many decorations for Halloween.  One of our neighbors has a huge monster tall as the house.  People here also go in for a lot of Christmas decorations.  My daughter did some cute things in her yard.  We never had trick or treaters in Ocala.  The first couple of years we were here we handed out candy but last year we just put a big bowl of candy out with a sign saying Please Take Two and I think that is what we will do this year.

Mary Ann, my coconut cream pie was good.  I had trouble sleeping last night also.  I'm sitting here now yawning 8:45 pm, but don't want to go to bed yet.

Marilyne, the Grade schools I attended were torn down and replaced.  They kept the same names even 'tho they weren't even rebuilt in the same areas.  The news showed a pretty bad fire on the news last night, but I don't think it was near your location.  I just hope we can get thru this month and next without a hurricane.

Jackie, I hope tomorrow will bring you some comfort and not too much sadness.

MarsGal

Good morning everyone. Catching up on a few day or two old posts....

Patricia
, I loved the Halloween post. It seems more and more folks around here are spending big bucks on decorating for Halloween. My next door neighbor is one of them. Every year she adds something new. This year there are a few new inflatables including a big stripped snake on the porch roof. Her main love is zombies, so her yard is crowded with them in a graveyard, The corner this year is a grouping of ghosts waiting for blood donations.

Marilyne, I haven't heard of any Columbus removals here. Funny that Californians should be all bent out of shape about celebrating him since he never made it, to my knowledge, to that area. He did get to parts of Central and South America, and of course, the Caribbean Islands. Were those peoples considered American Indians? You were wondering about how we know these things? Aside from his logs, there are also surviving letters, journals, and official documents. The Spanish government did look into accusations about him and his brothers which resulted in Columbus losing his position as governor of Hispaniola. I agree that people are going over the top with reaching so far back in time to score politically correct points and devalue the accomplishments of those way in the past.Did you know that the descendants of Columbus moved the Columbus family chapel from Spain to Boalsburg (near State College), PA in 1909? There is a museum there with a number of Columbus relics, too. Now, there is a story I'd like to know more about. I've never stopped in there. I'd love to know more about why the family moved from Spain to Pennsylvania and why they chose Boalsburg of all places. Oh, and Boalsburg is concidered the birth place of Memorial Day too. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g52224-d2204421-Reviews-Columbus_Chapel_and_Boal_Mansion_Museum-Boalsburg_Pennsylvania.html

MarsGal, it 's funny about Halloween.  I never have done any Halloween decorating, however, I did have (maybe still have) some Pilgrim candles that I put out for Fall.  Also an old brown pitcher with some fall foliage in it that I used to put out.  Since I don't go down stairs now, I have no idea what I have, but I don't go big for Fall decorating; I'm lucky if I can keep what nicknacks I have without someone moving them.

Jean, I hope it wasn't the coconut cream pie that kept you awake!  Today Dot and I shared a cream pie that had chocolate sprinkles on top, but not inside it.  No matter what kind of cream pie we have, we always like it.  Of course, we had the Tuna Melt.  I think it is a bit different each week, but it is always good.

While I've heard the controversy about Columbus and Columbus Day, I don't recall any recalls of Columbus.  And the PO still does not deliver on Columbus Day.

Jenny, I hope your snow is gone and it sounds like you have been warming up a bit.  We were at 46 degrees this morning, a little on the cool side but I did not wear a coat over my sweater.  We are to be in the 50s all week.  I'm not ready for snow and I'd like it to be dry for another month when we will go to Portland MI to meet the new baby to be born tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Monday, October 14, Paula will have a C-Section for the birth of their second baby, a boy.  He will be about a month old when several family members will meet at Portland to celebrate his birth and to wish Paula a happy 35th birthday.  Paula is the oldest of Norm's grandchildren.

There still are a lot of whitecaps on Lake Michigan.

 Mary Ann

I'm going to just say a quick Hello, and then return later.  We didn't lose our power during the recent fire-prevention blackout. However, our surrounding mountain/hillside areas did, and now are being returned to full power.  This has caused lots of quick power failures here - 5 to 20 minutes. Nothing we can't deal with for the next few hours, but its raising havoc with the computers.  Best to turn them off now, and wait for this to be over.

Good morning from the Interior! It has been a while since we've had any more snow, and even the foothills have no snow at this time. Perhaps we're back waiting that first Halloween snow?

I've never decorated for any holidays other than a tree for Christmas. My mother and younger sister always went all in for every holiday. My older sister didn't celebrate any, including family birthdays. I celebrated my daughter's birthday with two parties, one for her friends and one for family. Primarily because she was born two weeks before Christmas, and many sent one gift titled happy birthday and merry Christmas. I was employed in retail when the Christmas season started at the end of August and culminated in January's extensive inventories. So, I was already tired of the holiday.

it sounds like Paula is going to have a delighted birthday this year, and I wish them both a happy one!

MarsGal I agree, oral histories, letters, journals, and other information contradicts what has been known as history. About Columbus, he was only one of several who encountered a land long settled. His main contribution was opening up the continent to trade, settlement, the decimation of aboriginal inhabitants, and in a period where historical changes in religion and the invention of the printing press coincided.

What we learned in history is not always accurate, and what we need to take from that is to learn from our mistakes, or we are doomed to repeat them.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I used to decorate for Christmas, complete with a tree.  Even in this small condo, I had a tree, artificial, but it looked nice with lights and ornaments.  It got so there were no children who came to visit and I was the only one enjoying the tree.  This was before Tom came to live with me.  I have a few things I put out now, but nothing elaborate, except for my Father Christmases and Mary, Joseph and the baby.

Patricia, I'm glad for your sake that you haven't had more snow because I think it is easier for you to get around without it.  It's nice to look at from inside, but a horror to get around in, especially if you don't drive.

Patricia, Paula is the one who went to the doctor for something else and found she was four or five months pregnant.  She had a rough time with her daughter and decided that was it!  Little did she know.  I understand this pregnancy has gone better.  We will have another birth in November, in California.

Hi Marilyn, I hope this catches you with one of your "power on" segments!  Ha!
