I am here but not doing well with this latest health issue... today the neck muscles only hold the head upright but if I want to look down or up or either side, must move the whole body. Even the mouth has trouble opening wide enough to put food in. Called the Dr's office & talked to his private nurse, she talked to him & reported back that "I'm doing all the right things so if it doesn't improve in a few days to call back." Guess I'll live but think I will head to Arby's for their Reuben sandwich/ meal. Only thing that sounds good & will be the 3rd Ruben this week.

This is not the REAL me that I'm dealing with and not pleased with how this old lady is operating. Lots to do before Christmas & today I should be raking the mounds of leaves under that sweet gum tree out front but it has dumped a million of those little spikey balls in with the leaves so I can't run them through the mulcher & don't think I can manage the bagging without. So sorry the guy I thought was going to be the answer to my prayers for hiring with these jobs turned out to not be comfortable to have him on week ends, since that is the only time he is in town. That was NOT the original talk with his first job & I am uneasy about his wife. Anyway, still my problem & not anyone I can hire right now. Sadly, both sons are totally swamped with their own jobs (even though one is retired, he has 3 paying jobs he enjoys & one he does free because he loves it...baby sitting his grands & hauling back & forth to school & other activities. He takes care of the 3 year old several days of the week...all day, but enjoys & doesn't think about staying up at night to do his computer work for 2 of the jobs. Anyway, other son called last night to catch up with me & is up to his ears with projects his company is doing. I am not good company this week & "eeking by" ..just realized I have not had lunch so that Arby's meal will be "Lupper" (lunch & supper) as my good neighbor used to call these days.

Thanks to all of you for talking about your worlds. Won't comment just now, may be back after I "fetch some food".

Amy

Shirley, I am sorry to read of your problems. Sore necks can be a bother I know, mine is just at stage where turning my head is not too bad.Doesn't sounds as if the gears are rubbing against each other :)) Can you ask at church on Sunday if anyone could recommend a young lad/girl to come and do the work for you?

Shirley, I am sorry to read about your health problems.  I would hope you could find someone to help and for heaven's sake, don't do them yourself if you can't.

Shirley, this may be the time to find the Applied Kinesiologist.  I've found, over the years that, when a medical dr says "wait it out" or wants to give me meds, Debra can help me fix it.  I don't know what's causing your neck pain but if the dr. wanted me to wait it out, I know what I'd do.

I had my session with Debra today and it was one of the best ever!  I came home feeling much better about what had been causing some of the pains.  A while back I fell on my side and today she fixed it so I can take a deep breath without wincing.

Tomorrow, I have an electricion coming and he'll be working in the kitchen, one bathroom and one bedroom.  I've taken everything off the kitchen counter and stacked it o the dining room table so they can access the outlets.  They will all be changed because they are "not up to standard".  Maybe I won't knock out my fridge when I plug in two items in the outlet across from it.  But they're sure putting a cramp in the candy making!  I can't even bag while they're here because the table is loaded!  I have all the stuff set aside to do a major part of what's left to do after they leave but I don't know when that will be.

I'm all ready for bed but I think I'll go out and watch one episode of Home Improvement before I take Mickie out and then hit the sack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane, I just googled again & see there is an  Applied Kinesiologist not too far from me, I will call in the morning. Do you know if treatment is covered by Medicare?  I know my doc some years ago offered to send me to a chiropractor but at that time I didn't know of one I trusted. I've been to quite a few & found some just want to crack bones & others massage pain away. The ones I trusted are all dead now & I don't know anyone that goes to one anymore. Let you know how this works out. Thanks!

Oops, Sandy, I checked on Amazon for your cure & will keep it in mind but since this is now full blown through out my head (even hurts to move hair, like migraines of long ago)... don't think any cream will help. Before I go to bed I am going to take a B-1 vitamin (for nerve endings), have a bite to eat & chill out.I will check to make sure Callie cat is inside, she is too old to like being out all night anymore & I find her sitting at the front door any time I open it after they have their "midnight snack" & out to run for a while. I have given in to a number of no-nos lately, like bacon with it's nitrates & nitrites, stepping out without covering my head & something I never could get away with, plus eating other foods I shouldn't. Caught up with me! The kicker that reminds me of the migrains is finding it hurts to blink eyes & can't stand a hairbrush. Back in my teen age years of migraines I didn't worry about muscles drying up if not used & would sleep the pain off, or go ride a horse until I was numb & come home & basically pass out. My mom would let me sleep until I got up, she'd check on me & seemed to understand. I never took pain pills. Thinking back, I don't remember ever missing school so maybe a summer happening? ;)  We used going to the office for aspirin as an excuse to get out of class... couple trips for aspirin & then we'd look really in pain & "need to go home".  Lucky for us a big school & nobody called to see if we actually went home.  The principal liked us & would sign the pass as "monkeybusiness".

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm not sure if it's daylight out there yet but Mickie and I did our morning stroll and now we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.

SHIRLEY, this should be covered by Medicare but some don't. Debra told me some don't want to be bothered with the paper work involved with Medicare and just offer you a discount instead.  Ask up front!

I'm in waiting mode this morning.  I can't get involved in anything until the electricians come and go.  I think they said they would be here by 8 am and that's pretty soon so we shall see.

LLOYD, I've asked the doggies numerous times to rub my back but they prefer it if I rub their backs.  Most of the time there's no one to rub anything on my back but I found a roll on that I can use to reach almost anywhere.  The middle part is still elusive but I can get relief most of the way up and down my back.  And SHIRLEY's Epsom salts back treatment does the best job ever!

Guess I better check around and see f there's anything else I can clear up for the "guys" before they get here.

I wish you all a lovey day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning!  A little cloudy this morning with rain predicted for this afternoon.  My head agrees but that is OK since I don't plan to go out anywhere today.  I got the grocery shopping done yesterday and I'm so thankful that I got through that.  Needed lots of things and, also, I am trying to buy a few things ahead for Christmas.  The checker was a really nice young lady....so pleasant to talk to and on top of that, she was really fast.  Brightened my shopping day a lot!!!

Shirley, I'm so sorry about your neck and head and hope the treatment gives you a lot of relief.   I wish the same for all of you who are suffering with the aches and pains.  I wish that none of us had them but they seem to come with the territory, don't they?

I'm ready for breakfast and think I'll allow myself to have a second cup of coffee to go with it.  I'm feeling very daring.   ::)

Good morning everyone, hope you are all fine and dandy. After not sleeping
Wednesday night I had trouble getting to sleep again last night. I ended up coming in here and turning on the TV to the Me channel and lay down on the couch, fell asleep for a good 6½ hours.

AMY  the 2 CNAs I had the last 2 days were great, not just sitting and talking. Last time I talked to the one I miss she was starting PT this week and if that works and as long as she does the exercises at home, too, she will be back the beginning of January. Oh I sure hope she does.

JANE  do you feel like you are retired yet? Or do you feel like you have less time for yourself? Of course it is a busy time of year for you with all the cooking you have been doing.

PHYLLIS  I would go to the market any time my son asks me. One chore I always liked.  Does that make me weird?

AMY  a call from your son always comes first.

SHIRLEY  prayers for you to feel better PDQ. I know what it feels like when you know things need to be done and are just not up to doing much of anything.

JANE  now you tell us you fell. When was that? Glad you are "fixed up" now. Glad you found someone to help you. I would love to find someone to work on my back.

LLOYD  that Absorbine jr.  is an oldie. Didn't know they still made it.

AMY  frangipane? I thought that was a flower. Just what is it? A pastry?. Ne and my sweet tooth want to know, not that I can make anything anymore.

PHYLLIS  glad your shopping is done and you will eat for another week.

Gloria , it is a pastry in a tart shell with jam on the bottom...just a bit maybe 1/4 tps and then a mixture of egg, butter sugar and rice flour and almond flavouring.. After they are baked you can put a dab of icing with part of a cherry on top if you wish.

Son called again from Como Mississippi,  to rub it in about the temp nd they are getting rain ,not snow..

Internet coughing & spewing today... all over the country. My daughter just called to say she discovered e-mails she thought had gone out were in her "draft" folder. I am able to read one post & all stops & at the tops it says, "Google not responding".

Lloud, my grandmother always used Absorbine Jr all the years I remember... she died at 96 with I was in my early 30s. I will buy some next time I need a muscle fix up, I always thought I am just like my "Grandma" so if it worked for her maybe it will work for me. I think you are smart having the new locks installed & security cameras. My family have the door bells that ring on their smart phones & can see who is around their house no matter where they are in the world! I would love to have that but afraid I'd be so frustrated trying to learn how to operate! Me & my phone don't get along too well on the simple things!

Jane, I had a close look at the Applied Kinesiologist site & it closed at noon today (okay, I want instant help) ::)   My daughter is happy with this choice & I did see that this clinic does accept Medicare & Blue Cross (that I have), even mentions they are happy to have X-rays & other medical reports brought in.. so that helps with no duplicates.  But, I will have to wait until next week for this. I am so much better right now than I was last night I am all but singing & dancing. I had to use a straw to drink water to take a Bayer this morning & last night (could not tip my head up to drink). Naturally have that feeling of guilt my BP is so hight & I don't take the blood thinners normal heart patients take... don't want a blood clot or stroke but... still do think I need a round of antibiotics for the gunk in my head. That Z-pack I've had the last 5 years (several times) did not help at all, but the Dr always thinks it's best. I put this poor doctor in a bad spot by insisting of doing my way, but I'm not willing to have any more severe reactions with meds. I am more afraid of taking than not so hope I'm not wrong. I will give this guy a try as quick as I can get in. Thanks again.

Gloria, so happy to see your latest CNAs have been better, you do sound more relaxed. Thanks for the good thoughts. I honestly do believe the prayers said by ALL of this Senior Family are heard and answered (sometimes not the WAY we hope for but realize was for the best, right?)

Before my internet shuts down completely I better shut up & post. As soon as people start getting off work & all week end, we do not get enough band width (so my techie family tells me) it is near impossible to keep attached. The kids tell me the whole internet is on overload with shopping right now, since I only give money & gift cards.... I don't shop!

Is The X In Xmas Offensive?

Why Is "Christmas" Abbreviated As "Xmas"?

Here's a holiday surprise that only the dictionary can provide. Do you find the word Xmas, as an abbreviation for Christmas, offensive? Many people do, but the origin of this controversial term might change your mind!

You won't find Xmas in church songbooks or even on many greeting cards. Some people associate Xmas with the holiday as a commercial, secular occasion instead of as a particular cultural and religious ritual.

Where did Xmas come from?
But, the history of the word Xmas is actually more respectable—and fascinating—than you might suspect. First of all, the abbreviation predates (by centuries) its use in gaudy advertisements. It was first used in the mid-1500s.

X represents the Greek letter chi, the initial letter in the word Χριστός (Chrīstos). And what does Χριστός mean? "(Jesus) Christ." X has been an acceptable representation of the word Christ for hundreds of years. (And why would people need to abbreviate Christ? Well, the word is very widely written.)

Other abbreviations for Christ include Xt and Xp, the P here representing the Greek letter rho, source of our letter R. A stylized version of the Greek chi (X) and rho (P) is ☧, a symbol of Christ called a Christogram.

In the same vein, the dignified terms Xpian and Xtian have been used in place of the word Christian.

Where does the –mas in Christmas come from?
The –mas in Xmas comes from the Old English word for mass, as in a church service, especially one in the Roman Catholic Church including a celebration of the Eucharist. That word, mæsse, is believed to have been derived from Church Latin missa, ultimately from Latin mittere which means "to send (away)." It was perhaps derived from the concluding formula in the Latin mass, Ite, missa est, meaning "Go, it is the dismissal!" That is, the service is over.

This has been an interesting day...I didn't get the baking done but I did manage not to blow my top :tickedoff:  We were out cleaning up the snow when I noticed something wrong....I had broke a sheer pin, assumed it was from a stone. Brought the snow blower in and replaced the sheer pin. Not an easy spot to work in plus you are bent over in the shape of a pretzel!! Out I go, finish the front part  that Kyle had shoveled over into a windrow and headed to the back. Hear the first bang, a piece of wood thanks to the pup.....thought I had caught it in time  then another bang...this time I sheard off two pins. Repairing the first one was easy but the second was really difficult considering the pin was still in and I had to get it out. After some (a LOT of  muttering) a cup of tea, I managed to hit it out. Kyle  looked at me and said well you still love Jessie don't you?
Can't help but chuckle at the day...if the snow hadn't covered the wood up I would have seen it. Now I will walk the runway just to make sure no surprises lay buried. Tomorrow must be a better baking day anyway..after I hang laundry out.

It is so nice to catch up on everyone's messages.  We are missing the normal snowfall from home - in Tucson, AZ.  It can snow her though and that is beautiful with snow on red rocks.  Our oldest son is arriving for several weeks so that will be great.  He likes to fix anything to stay busy and he will probably help our friend who now deals with macular degeneration and needs some care.  Other children will be here later in the Spring.

A friend has pain from Spinal Stenosis and chiropracter treatments are not helping.  Any great ideas out there?  I should say those treatments seem to help a short period of time.  The shot did not help at all and there is a three month wait before they will try the lazer guided shot again.   sigh......

Wishing all pain relief and comfort.

JaneS

Bubble, that was a very interesting article and I have to admit that it has changed my mind a bit when it comes to Xmas abbreviation.  However, I still prefer the full spelling of Christmas.  Maybe that's because I'm not Greek and I don't live in the 15th century and I like being reminded of the reason for Christmas.  I have seen that stylized PX thing and I've even wondered about it.  I'm going to copy your entry and take it to church with me on Sunday.  I think there are many who need to see it.

The electrician/plumber guys were here quite a while this morning and they got a lot done.  I don't think I mentioned that this is a state program designed to help seniors and disabled people stay in their homes safely for a longer time.  When I applied, I didn't think I would qualify but I did and it's great!  The guy who runs it for this county is a real gem!

I didn't get any candy done today...not even bagged because I moved everything off the kitchen counters onto the dining room table so they would have easy access to the outlets in the kitchen.  After they left and I started putting things back, I found that just staying out of the way was a tiring job.  Tomorrow, I'll get an early start!

CAROL, enjoy your visit with your son.  And a later one with other kids.  Too bad you're missing all that Colorado snow...NOT!  I can't imagine that a snowfall in Tucson would be as confining as what is happening in Colorado!

AMY, the joys of owning our furry friends, or should I say of our furry friends owning us because they do.  I probably said this before but I told people often "My dogs own the house.  They just let me live there because I tend to their needs."  If I didn't tend, they'd throw me out and get someone who does."  They all thought it was funny but it's really true!  Sorry about your problems but like Kyle said, "You still love him, don't you?"

I guess I better get ready to hit the hay if I want to get anything done tomorrow and I'm really hoping to FINISH tomorrow.  That means doing the coconut cups and packing everything ready to give.  Wish me luck!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone.

A nice day in the making here,-6° F, no new snow or rain! Will hang laundry out in a  bit. Doing odds and ends today and hope to see the end of the ends. :)

Jane, I am so happy to read you are getting all this done. Programs like this are a blessing to have. Yes, I still love him.... my bed hog.

Gloria, he is all over the place and I never know where he is. I do get to look up interesting towns that he has phoned from though. I hope you get your regular CNA back, you both seems to work well together.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a brr 19° now at 7:30, wonder how cold it was earlier. First time it has gone into the teens so far. Did I sleep through the rest of autumn and wake in winter?

LLOYD  smart move changing locks and getting the cameras. You know by now that some people believe that rules are meant for everyone but them and will always do what they want. Stay safe my friend.

AMY  those tarts sound like something I would like a lot. Leave it to a son to rub it in about the temperature where he was at the time. Sound like something both of my sons would do. My daughter would just say it was warm or cold and let it go at that.  I didn't realize your first post was a small font, I read it OK.

SHIRLEY  I have some email I thought went out last Saturday in my outbox.  Maybe it is Google and not Cox? Now how would one go about getting in touch with google? I dislike being on a phone. Here when Cox did an update on the new box they put in  last Saturday morning is when I stopped getting my email. I agree, prayers might not bring the answer we want but things always seem to work out for the best.

BUBBLE  wow who knew? I always disliked Xmas, always thought people were to lazy to write Christmas. Think a lot of others feel the same way. Then I also thought of years ago when so many could not read or write and signed their names with an X. Thank you. I copied it and when I get my email back I will be sending it out.

AMY  you must be a mechanic as well as all your other titles.. I have no idea what a shear pin is and have no intention of learning.

CAROL  Tuscan is warmer than in the mountains near Kingman where my daughter  and SIL now live. He lived all his life in San Diego and is getting used to the colder temperatures. My daughter even taught him how to make a snowman, she said it was about 12 inches high, not enough snow to make it bigger.

JANE  you and I both feel the same as others I will still prefer Christmas not Xmas.

AMY  I remember the days of hanging clothes on the line and having items freeze to the line before I could get a clothes pin on them, and the freezing fingers, too. I still miss the smell and feel of them when the dried. Cute graphic.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up for a couple of hours and Mickie has had her outies, her pill, her breakfast and a nice long walk.

I have gumdrop fudge cooling in the fridge.  Don't ask me any questions about it because this is the first time I've ever made it.  I'll let you know if it's the last time I'll ever make it.  I have the oven heaing to do peanuts for the guys.  They never say if the like them but one year I didn't make them and 2 of them said, "Hey Mom! Did you forget the peanuts?".  I told them I ran out of time but I made them every year since.  I guess guys just eat what you give them and miss it when you don't.

This afternoon I'm going to put the Christmas music on, sit down and roll coconut ball for the coconut cups.  I've put that job off as long as I can.  Now I'm telling myself to "get going" but in a much firmer tone.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Good afternoon.

It is a pretty sunny day, but cold.

I know I have been missing for a few days, but I had a kind of frustrating week.  Had a doctor's appt. went to the Dollar store, and then a couple of very long phone calls trying to get a couple things straightened out.

One person I talked to at Amazon was in Puerto Rico and I was on the phone for over an hour.  This gal was so patient, and I thought I would never understand what she wanted me to do. It wasn't really a language problem, I just kept messing up and would have to start all over.  But, she stuck with me.  Then, had another similar incident with another problem. That wasn'y quite as bad.  But, by the time I was finished, I was exhausted.  Yesterday, I did not do anything. !

Hoping this coming week will be better.

Tomorrow, Sunday, I am supposed to go to Breakfast with Santa with 2 of my little great-granddaughters, and I am really looking forward to that.  Hope it all works out like it is supposed to.  One of out county's Volunteer Fire Co. puts it on and it is an AYCE breakfast with everything.  I have been before and I know it is good. My son and grandson get their money's worth at these AUCE places.   They also have a small Holiday craft show, so I might be able to pick up a couple small gifts.

I, also, do not like using "XMAS" in place of Christmas.

Jane, I told you that you would be so busy after you stopped work.  You make me tired just hearing all you do.  I don't think I am going to be able to do any cookies this year.  I usually make the sugar cookies that you push out of a  cookie gun, and I just can't stand very long anymore.  I have tried making them sitting down, and that just doesn't work. You can't get the leverage right.  I make the ones that come out in a long strip and you just cut them into pieces. The recipe makes a lot and I have been making that kind for years. My family will miss them.  Unfortunately, neither of my DIL are into cooking, so they are no help.  And, I don't have any grand daughters around, and the little ones are too little yet. I did get a recipe from a friend where you make the dough into balls and flatten them with a glass dipped in sugar.  I am thinking I could probably make them sitting down.  I am still trying to convince myself to try.  It would probably do me good to try, and I might not feel so lazy getting something done.  I just find it easier to sit and read or nap.

Maybe I will try your way of putting some Christmas music on and that would help.

I need to get a little bit of lunch.

Hope everyone is having a great day, so far.

Hi Everyfriend!  The coconut balls are all rolled and waiting in the fridge for tomorrow when they will be made into coconut cups and that's the last of the that kind of candy.  My plan for tomorrow is church first, then home to finish the candy, pack it all up that needs packing and fill the family and friends bags with goodies.  And if my energy holds out, I'll mix and refrigerate the gumdrops for cutting on Monday.  They take overnight in the fridge to get to the working point.  In the meantime, I'll change the dining room table into a real table and start getting my decorations out.

And somewhere along the way, I'll pack my boxes for Texas and Oklahoma.  Maybe I'll even get them in the mail!  Not tomorrow, tough!

I'll let you all know how that plan works out.  Oh yes, the gumdrop fudge is pretty good.  I haven't decided if it's "more-ish" yet but we'll see.  It's certainly petty enough, though.

I haven't even thought about baking yet but I have promised Moose Farts for Cathy's annual Christmas Eve open house.  We had some fun with them last year and I'm thinking it will be fun again this year.

I think I better take Mickie out and get myself ready for bed before I fall over.  I'm draggin' a bit tonight.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
