SCFSue

Good morning all you Bait and Tacklers. I've had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen, but am still not dressed.  It's pretty chilly here this morning in Auburn.  I do plan to dress in my warmest walking duds and get outside, but I've been putting it off.

Other than the walk I plan to make some vegetable soup to take to my neighbor down the street.  She doesn't cook much anymore and is always glad to get some of my soup.  I will walk first, then put the soup on.

I hope every Bait and Tackler has a nice day today!

Marilyne

SCFSue - good morning to you too!  I'm sure you enjoyed the Auburn/Alabama game on Saturday?  We were watching and rooting for Auburn, here in California.  Very nice you you to make soup for your neighbor!

Mary Ann - Sounds like you had a restless night last night?  I was up and down all night, and don't feel rested this morning at all.  Lots of do today to prepare for Christmas.  AJ is going to put up the outside lights, when the rain finally stops, and I'll do some decorating inside,  Shelley and Claire, brought our little tree up from the basement, and decorated it, so that's a task that I won't have to do this year.

Jenny - I agree that the price of Apple products are outrageous, especially when you are aware that the iPhones become obsolete very quickly.  However, I have nothing but praise for the other Apple products.  Our desktop computers go on forever!  When our daughter was here this past weekend with her Apple laptop, she estimated that it's now 12 to 15 years old, and is still doing well.  She has taken it to the Apple store a couple times for minor adjustments, but other than that it has served her well.

Hope everyone has a nice Winter day today.  Raining off an on here, but not as cold as it was last week.  Already in the mid fifties, so should be reasonably comfortable.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior, where we're presently at zero with a past low of minus thirteen and an expected high of plus three. However, tomorrow, it is expected to warm up again into the late teens.  February then January is our darkest and coldest months, and I'm not looking forward to those.

Yesterday and today, with the fluctuating barometric pressure, my back has been stiffening in the mornings. And whenever I sit for any time. Tuesday afternoon, the cab driver had to help me out of the car, and I scuttled to the front door. Any bending down or attempting to get on the floor was an impossibility.
Starting tomorrow, I have a busy weekend and next week ahead, which I'm not looking forward to at all.

Farrah is the same, she eats, plays, and takes a two or three-hour late afternoon nap. She has a routine each day that you can set your watch to.

It's nice to read about everybody's activities and family and friends' visits. I used to be out and about every day when I wasn't working and even after I retired. However, the last two years, have not been that great and I often dread going anywhere. Tuesday was three stores, two bus trips (plus standing and waiting in the wind), and the cab ride home.

Here's hoping your days are going better!

Mary Ann

Patricia, with all you did yesterday, no wonder you had trouble getting out of the cab.  I hope you can relax doing little soon.  I wonder if barometric pressure has anything to do with Dot's pain.

Marilyn, I often wake up after four hours, go to the bathroom but if I am still wide awake, I get up and get on the computer.  I rarely post anything in those early hours, but I wanted to answer Jenny while I thought of it.  I go back to bed after 1 1/2 hours and usually go back to sleep for another three or four hours.

I've been reading my dad's diary of when he was in the Army in 1918.  He was 23 years old and had a lot of responsibility.  I think not many 23-year-olds have a lot of responsibility today, not that they would not grow into their job.  I was just growing into my job at 23 because I was a one-girl office and had to do everything - and loved it.

I want Tom to read Dad's diary; my dad was Tom's grandfather and the grandfather he knew best.

Mary Ann

Joy

Good Afternoon.

I have been busy the past couple days. Yesterday,n I had a doctor's appointment and my DIL  that usually takes me sent me an e-mail that she wasn't feeling good and could I see if my other DIL could take me.  This DIL just lives  about 10 min. from me, and she did just retire. But, I don't want her to think that I am taking advantage of her now that she is home. But, she didn't mind and afterwards, we stopped at Target and at PopEyes for me to get something for my dinner.  So, that worked out well.  Today, she and I just got back from the Dollar Tree and she got some of my Christmas things down off of then shelf in the closet and also hung my wreath on the door.  I am getting so I can reach as high as I used to. The Dollar Tree is right near Walmart, so my DIL wanted to stop there and check on several feral cats that have been hanging around  in a little patch of  green in the parking lot.  She had spied a cat there several weeks ago, and one of the Walmart employees told her that several people had been stopping by to feed them.  Since my DIL is a great animal person, she had to go and feed them.  So, now when she is near by, she will stop and leave food and water.  She is just such a sweet and caring person.  Today, one of them even came up to her when she was putting the food.  She would like to meet up with whoever else is feeding them. She said that one of the cats doesn't look well at all.  It would not surprise me if she wouldn't try to get it into a cage and take it to a vet.  Today, tho, then cat was walking around and did eat some of the food.  It has been so cold and I feel sorry for the poor things, although my DIL said they do haven boxes to get into and someone had put a lot of straw in the boxes. So, there does seem to be others who are looking out for them.  My DIL has 4 cats of her own, and 2 of them were feral ones that have gotten friendly.

Mary Ann, sorry that you and Dot didn't get to the tea,  But, glad that you found the book you were looking for.  I can imagine how interesting the diary from you Dad would be.  I love reading old books like that.

I need to return a  phone call that came while I was out.  A fiend who I haven't talked to for a while.

Hope everyone will have a good rest of the day.   Take care !!

Joy

Monday, I had a very frustrating afternoon.  I had my hair done  right after lunch and when I got back to my  apartment, I had a message from Amazon. When I tried to get into my Amazon account, it wouldn't accept my password. What a mess that turned into. I was on the phone with a gal in Puerto Rica for over an hour.  She was the sweetest, most patient girl that I have ever talked to.  It was really a very complicated mess, but she stayed with me, and walked me through I don't know how many steps it took to resolve the problem. But, I was a nervous wreck by the time I got done.  But, it finally got fixed.  I was no good the rest of the day.

Jean, I am so glad to hear that you had a good report from your oncologist.  I can relate to that kind of news. I wasn't aware that you were having some problems and will sure keep you in my thoughts and prayers  that everything will continue to go well.  I was at my oncologist yesterday and everything was good. I get blood work done every 3 months,

Mary Ann, I see I am not the only one who gets up at3 a.m. and gets on the computer. But, most of the time,  I have a hard time getting back to sleep. If I wait long enough, it is usually time to get up.  I usually haven a nap in the afternoon.

Well I must have thought I was finished and see where I had added another part of my message.  Not sure how that happened. Tried to re-do it  but couldn't.

Joy, don't worry, it makes interesting reading.  It's good your other DIL was able to fill in to take you places.  I have only Tom and if the place is not too far, Dot would take me.  But Dot is one busy lady.  I try to make my appointments on Tuesday if possible and Tom tries to stay away from Tuesdays.

I had a phone call a while ago that the woman who has been cutting my hair the last couple of years no longer works at the salon.  She told me she had worked there 32 years so unless she retired, she had a problem with someone.  I'm not sorry about her leaving because I was unhappy with my last cut; it looked like someone put a bowl on my head and cut around it.  I don't know what to say about my hair because I sleep on my left side and it seems that side has straightened out and after I wash my hair, there is no resemblance between the right and left sides.  So it isn't all the stylist's fault.  It will be interesting to see how the new gal handles it.

It is a dreary day, no snow, and our temperatures this week have been in the low 30s.

Lot of whitecaps on Lake Michigan today.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I had to laugh, because my hair problems sound much like yours.  I wasn't happy with my last cut, which was three weeks ago this Saturday.  It has an uneven, chewed look on the ends, and the bangs are too long. Also, one side is shorter than the other - and the two sides don't even look like they belong on the same person!  I'm good friends with my hairdresser, and would never go anywhere else, so I'll have to explain it to her when I see her next.  Right now, she and her husband are visiting their granddaughter and her family in Tennessee, or I'd would go in and let her fix things.  She's good natured, and wouldn't take offense if I complained.

Joy, I know how you feel, trying to straighten out something that you've ordered, over the phone!  As you said, sometimes the people at the call centers are very sweet and patient, and will stay with you until everything is resolved.  No matter whether it's an easy or hard situation, I'm always totally exhausted when it's finally over.  It sounds like your DIL did a lot of helpful things for you today.  My dil is also the kind who will come over right away if we need anything.

Patricia - Like you, I'm really slowing down lately, and takes me a long time to recover from an event - such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, et al.  I know it's to be expected, so I'm trying not to be alarmed when the days drag on, and I haven't bounced back yet.  I've been sneezing a lot today, and figure I must be coming down with a cold, because there should be nothing in the air to trigger my allergies?  It's been raining off and on for about five days, which washing all the pollution out of the air, and makes for easy breathing.

Well, guess I'll read for awhile or watch some television.  I have lots of things recorded on the DVR that AJ isn't interested in seeing, so afternoon viewing is a good time for me to catch up.  Hope we hear from other members later today or this evening?

Better late than never to come in to say goodnight!

I managed to cut most of my post out as I was trying to move a paragraph, and since there was not much of any importance in it, I am not going to attempt to reconstruct it.

I did have to laugh at your hair cut issue, MARILYNE......sounds like some I get occasionally, however it is my own fault as I continue to give one lady a chance and she cuts it well one time and then the next time she butcher me!  The lady that cut mine for at least three years went on maternity leave and even though she planned to return, she has not.

MARY ANN, I am feeling sad for your hair person as well and how she left your hair after the last cut.  I could cut my hair just fine IF I could take my head off and set it on the table🤪🤪.

We did get word today that Michele is going to have another Gamma Knife treatment in the next week or so, so we talked to Mark in California and made the decision that we will not be going there for Christmas as planned, as we need to be here to help out with the grands.  I can not help but feel sad to not be going! However it is important for us to be here and help Michele.

I am going to hit the hay....pleasant dreams to all.

QUESTION for those that either live in the Duluth area or know the reason....  WHY do they have ships lined up  out there waiting to get in??  Do they need to enlarge their shipyard?  What?

CallieOK

Joan, the drawbridge is iced and the machinery won't lift the extra weight.  Ships have to go through the Superor Point entry until the bridge is fixed.

Click on  Home to see comments.

Mary Ann

I think the bridge is operating now because I watched Paul go through.

Nothing going on here but I do have a 2 pm appointment as a followup on my new hearing aids.  As they are smaller than I have had, these are harder to put in my ear but once in, they stay.  I don't know I have them in.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Callie, I am not familiar with  those areas.  Just see them parked out there for sometimes up to three days waiting to get in, Summer or  Winter.

Mary Ann

Joan, sometimes the ships are parked out in Lake Superior to wait for their scheduled time.  I think there are three ships waiting and may be scheduled two or three days from now.

The iced bridge was unusual.

Thanks Mary Ann, I was wondering about the ships parked out there off and on all summer. I thought maybe there is an offshore "filling station" like Sarnia Anchorage. I saw a short video clip quite a while back that showed a tiny island like structure at Sarnia Anchorage, but it isn't visible from the StreamTime Live cam at Port Huron. There didn't seem to be much traffic on the St. Clair today. USCG Hollyhock is out again. I got to see her going downriver at Marine City the day before last. She went as far as Buffalo and, last I looked, was midway between Erie and Cleveland on the return run. I stopped following the new USS Indianapolis when it got to its' new base at Mayport, FL. It took a while getting there, stopping here and there to do exercises, and a stop at the  sub base at New London.

Got my teeth cleaned this morning, all is well tooth and gum wise. Tomorrow I must got feed George's cats. Saturday is the Welsh Society's Christmas Luncheon. Later next week the car goes in for its' annual inspection.

Re: Duluth Harbor web cam....."Home" showed a video of Paul going under the bridge.

Joan, I read too fast and didn't catch that you had seen ships "parked" during the summer.  I had also read that they're waiting to come into port.

MarsGal,  I had my teeth cleaned this afternoon.  for us!  ;D

Going back a ways....

Patricia,  sorry you've had so much discomfort. The big muscle in both my hips is beginning to hurt more often than I'd like it to.  I'm glad it isn't the joint but really dislike when either or both flare up - usually at a most inconvenient time.

Joy,  both my dils are helpful but one is having major "structural" issues.  She isn't 50 yet but is about to have the second hip replaced - and may be facing a 5th back surgery because discs keep collapsing.  The latest one is right above one she had fused last Spring.
The other dil retired from teaching 3 years ago and is more than willing to take me to some medical appointments - even though it's a 40 minute drive from her house to mine and another 40 miles back. We always have a good visit and usually manage to have lunch.

She's a quilter and recently made arrangements for us to consult with a member of the Quilting Guild for information on date made/pattern/fabric/etc. on 10 old quilts I had stored in a trunk.  Then dil used a special sewing machine attachment to stitch a label  for each quilt - giving the family it came from, the approximate date made, the pattern and a brief pertinent personal fact (like "pieces cut from Callie's childhood dresses).  Then she matched the label to the quilt and sewed it on a corner.

Jenny,  I'm so sorry Michelle has to have another Gamma Knife treatment. I know they all appreciate you and Bob being so willing to help with the kids - and I know it's a "labor of love" for you.
Hope Denver is digging out from all the snow.  It's been like Spring around here this week.
Just hope it doesn't get blizzardy in two weeks when we go to Wisconsin.
The Palace Theater Facebook page just posted a video of the "Santa Baby" number.  Ellen is one of four girls singing/dancing in it.

Nothing else scheduled over the weekend - then it gets busy.  I'll probably take a deep breath on Monday morning and not come up for air until Friday afternoon!

TTYL,

Marilyne

I'm late getting in here today.  I wasted the morning, fussing over whether I should make an "emergency" dental appointment, but as the day moved along, my dental problem began to feel better, so I decided to take a, wait and see, attitude.  Things seem to be resolved, but I still have tomorrow (Friday) if my tooth problem returns.

MARY ANN - It sounds like you have the same hearing aids that AJ got from the VA?  His also fit further inside the ear, that the regular aids.  He is very happy with his, and is glad he went with that new style.

MARSGAL - Your mention of the Welsh Society, made me think of the episode of The Crown, that we watched last night.  It was about when Prince Charles was a young man, and was sent to Wales, to learn to speak the Welsh language.  This was in preparation for him becoming The Prince of Wales.

CALLIE - I think I likely have a similar hip problem to yours?  It isn't constant, but seems to come on during the night, and of course wakes me up. It's only on my left side.  Then the next day, I feel the pain throughout the day, but it slowly subsides with some Tylenol.  That's too bad about your dil, having serious hip and back problems at such a young age!  I can't help wondering if she was an athlete in her younger years?

JENNY - I'm glad that Michele will be having the Gamma Knife treatments.  The sooner the better!   I know it will be hard for her to go through it again, especially during the Christmas season, but good to get it over with.  I'm sorry your trip to California will have to be postponed, but you are needed more at home to help with the kids.  I'm hoping that this treatment will be the miracle you are all praying for!

Mary Ann

Tom and I went to the IHop for supper tonight.  I had a Roasted Turkey Sandwich which was good.  Tom had some Sirloin Tips with potatoes and something else.  He's on a weight loss program again via the hospital so he counts calories when we eat out.  He's lost over 15 pounds in two or three weeks.  His goal is two pounds a week and he really needs to lose.  He has a  support group and he knows Christmastime is a bad time!

The hip problems mentioned sound similar to what Dot has.  When she is in pain, it is extreme pain.  She gets a salve (prescription) for the pain and it helps a lot but doesn't do away with it entirely.

MarsGal, if you click on the dot by the ships in the water, in most cases it mentions the estimated departure or arrival date.

Marilyn, my hearing aids are shaped like my old ones, however, they are smaller.  Instructions say to put the part in the ear first, then adjust the outside.  That doesn't work really good for me, so I get them set around the ear before I put the part in the ear canal.  It takes some doing, but they stay put and I can hear better.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Marilyne, dil was not an athlete.  Problems seem to be congenital.  She's had the back issues for a long time. Spine hospital doctors don't have a reason. I know that one hip bone is at a strange angle. Shes having that one replaced next week.

My hip problem was only on on side until recently. Thee other side has just recently begun to kink up.  Blue Emu Cream  rubbed in vigorously helps the best.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the actor playing Prince Charles in the Welch episode also played the oldest son in the PBS series "The Durrells On Corfu" that just ended.

Took time to put a tilapia filet in the oven.  Need to find a "go-with"

Sleep well and have pleasant dreams.

wjoan

Callie and Mary Ann,  thank you.  I kind of thought that also.

FlaJean

Having an overcast day but the temperature is supposed to get up to 65 this afternoon.

Everything is quiet here.  I've been reading a lot lately.  The area over by our library and city hall is beautifully decorated, and I hope to go by there at dusk one evening and take some photos.

My oldest daughter's father-in-law just had a pacemaker installed and he is 97 years old.  I didn't know they would do that for someone at that age, but he came through just fine.  My daughter-in-law will be flying to California soon.  Then we will have a better idea how things are going for our grandson.

Jenny, I sure hope Michele's treatments help her.  How are your plans going for your move.  If you mentioned in a previous post I must have missed it.

My husband said he is glad we decided to move close to our youngest daughter when we did.  the older you get the harder it is to cope with selling and buying real estate as well as adjusting to a new place.  But our daughter was an enthusiastic helper and so happy about us moving close by.     However, It isn't easy to "downsize" when you have lived in one dwelling for years.  We love this little house we bought but we did have to get rid of a lot of stuff. 😁

Mary Ann, I also have a one sided hair problem.  I slept on my right side for years and the hair on that side is much thinner than on the left.  I think in my situation I'm just going to have to live with it.

Marilyne, the rain is good.  Won't that keep the fires away?

Joy, good to read your post and hope you are doing OK.

Patricia, does this winter weather increase your arthritis problems.  I've missed a few posts and wondering if you got that turkey cooked and have some nice dinners in the freezer.

Joan, it is nice to see your posts again.

Think of all of you and hope everything is looking good.

Mary Ann

Jean, you wrote about an overcast day and just then, the sun burst out; we haven't seen the sun in days.

Not having to move is a good reason to have Tom here.  Of course, it helps him too, but as long as I can walk and take care of myself, small as it is, this is where I should be.

My Christmas gifts of the past few years have been checks to include the entire family.  The family sizes have all increased to include four people now and I think it is time to write checks and send them on so they can use them.

Tom has left on some errand for Annie/Cate and I haven't had lunch yet - next on the agenda.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Good morning from a cold minus 27 Interior where we are shooting for today's high of minus 4. It is the in-between seasons where my arthritis hurts most due to rapid changes in barometric pressure. However, last summer and this winter have been worse due to hip spasms and pains due to my arthritis.

Today I will be delivering to my shut-in instead of tomorrow due to the Salvation Army having something else going on tomorrow. I will also take him a plate of cookies and fudge from the craft committee's bake sale yesterday. They always make plates for the building's disadvantaged as well as for volunteers and police and fire departments. This means I will also, as a volunteer, get my own plate of goodies, which will be going directly into the freezer. The turkey is still sitting thawed in the fridge, and I must get that done today.

I have in the past sent checks for Christmas and in return, have received those gifts of the months, which I often use as currency/barter. As much as I like cheese, a single person cannot eat a half or whole wheel every thirty days. Or a one-half ounce of coffee every two weeks. This year I've decided that turn about is fair play and signed them up for those various clubs of the month. Friends that send me actual gifts receive an actual gift in return. Yes, I'm a mean old lady...

Not long taken a phone call from an ex neighbour in her 80's from way back home before i moved in with my Richard 20 years back who told me of a male neighbour opposite her, who was in my block who is - was also in his 80's, a man who used to cycle on his bike to Tesco's Superstore where he worked, and she told me he, Denis, has just died which came as a sudden shock to all...This was a man both myself and Richard liked, as he too liked my Richard...I told my friend that if Richard was still with me ( of which he is not ) he would have been so sad to of heard this news...This man was once in our local newspaper as on his way to work, whilst walking - riding along the canal, a man fell in and my ex neighbour got him out so he was rather a hero, yet he casually continued on to his days work at Tesco's...Anyway, i told my friend Pat to pass onto his wife Maureen how sorry i was to hear of this news, i think she will still remember me and my Richard...i know my friend Pat had told Denis that i had lost my Richard but not sure Maureen knows...Talk about " end of an era "

Marilyne

I called the dentist this morning, and made an appointment.  I don't know why I panicked . . .  probably because the weekend is facing me, and I wasn't sure whether this problem was going to get better or worse.  I have a problem with my gums, in that I get an overgrowth of bone, that can become sore from time to time . . . after eating abrasive foods like nuts, crispy toast, or anything chewy.  Anyway, I had one spot that has been extremely inflamed and painful for the past three days, so decided to make sure it wasn't infected.  It wasn't. ::) Better to be safe than sorry.

Now I have to go to the post office to mail some gift cards to Claire for her birthday next week, and also send a get-well card to an old friend of mine who is in a rehab recovery center.  She fell down at home a couple of weeks ago, and was admitted to the hospital for observation, although nothing was broken.  Since then her health has deteriorated, and she's getting very depressed.  I'd like to go see her, but it's almost a hundred miles north of us, so too much driving this time of year. The days are too short now, and neither of us can drive, once it starts getting dark.

I'll be back later to comment on the messages from Jean, Mary Ann, Patricia, and Jackie.

Bubble posted this in the other site and not here but for those of us who only post here, I copied it.

Is The X In Xmas Offensive?

Why Is "Christmas" Abbreviated As "Xmas"?

Here's a holiday surprise that only the dictionary can provide. Do you find the word Xmas, as an abbreviation for Christmas, offensive? Many people do, but the origin of this controversial term might change your mind!

You won't find Xmas in church songbooks or even on many greeting cards. Some people associate Xmas with the holiday as a commercial, secular occasion instead of as a particular cultural and religious ritual.

Where did Xmas come from?
But, the history of the word Xmas is actually more respectable--and fascinating--than you might suspect. First of all, the abbreviation predates (by centuries) its use in gaudy advertisements. It was first used in the mid-1500s.

X represents the Greek letter chi, the initial letter in the word Χριστός (Chrīstos). And what does Χριστός mean? "(Jesus) Christ." X has been an acceptable representation of the word Christ for hundreds of years. (And why would people need to abbreviate Christ? Well, the word is very widely written.)

Other abbreviations for Christ include Xt and Xp, the P here representing the Greek letter rho, source of our letter R. A stylized version of the Greek chi (X) and rho (P) is ☧, a symbol of Christ called a Christogram.

In the same vein, the dignified terms Xpian and Xtian have been used in place of the word Christian.

Where does the -mas in Christmas come from?
The -mas in Xmas comes from the Old English word for mass, as in a church service, especially one in the Roman Catholic Church including a celebration of the Eucharist. That word, mæsse, is believed to have been derived from Church Latin missa, ultimately from Latin mittere which means "to send (away)." It was perhaps derived from the concluding formula in the Latin mass, Ite, missa est, meaning "Go, it is the dismissal!" That is, the service is over.

I saw this in my email and it sounded so good! So, I'm posting it here;

Use French Fried Onion Rings Like Breadcrumbs for better meatballs or meatloaves;

Breadcrumbs are good—noble, even. Without them, meatballs would be dense little orbs and meatloaves would be just that: loaves of meat. There would be no crispy, breaded, pan-fried fish, no oven-baked chicken tenders. I do not want to live in a world without breadcrumbs, but that doesn't mean I don't want to switch it up sometimes, and use French fried onions—the ones you find on that casserole—in their stead.

French fried onion bits, once pulverized, can perform many of the functions a breadcrumb would, and they taste like onions, which is a fun taste. You can mix them into meat for extra flavorful meatballs and meatloaf, dredge a piece of fish through them before frying, or sauté them with actual bread crumbs in some butter for an amped-up salad topping.

I am most excited, however, for a more oniony, savory meatball. You don't even have to adjust your measurements, unless you are used to using extremely bland breadcrumbs, in which case you may want to decrease the salt. Just grab a can of French's (the Trader Joe's brand is also good), let the food processor do its thing, then measure out as many onion crumbs as you would bread. The onion bits will hold your ball together while adding a whole bunch of umami. If there is a downside here, I do not see it.

Those are two good posts you made, Patricia.  I'll keep the onion bits in mind when/if I do any cooking (and I do a little bit).  I read Bubble's post elsewhere and I knew what X stood for so it does not offend me.

Marilyn, it's good you called the dentist and found your pain was not infection.  I've had a place between two teeth that shoots pain every so often.  I've talked to my dentist, also his cohort, and neither of them can find any cause, other than a food particle in the area.  At least the hygienists and the dentists are aware of it.

Jackie, I'm sorry about your friend, former neighbor.  When we get in our 80s, those things happens.  I'm surprised I have reached my 90s; I never expected to be here this long.

It is getting dark at 5:30, but in about two weeks, things will turn around and start getting lighter - minute by minute.

Norm was born 90 years ago today.

Mary Ann - I wish I had known Norm.  If I had taken Katie Sturtz's invitation to join the Michigan folder, or Norm's B&T, I probably would have enjoyed Norm's sense of humor.  Everyone says he was lots of fun.  I'm sure you're missing him on his birthday today, and Dot and Tom probably are too.

Patricia - I had no idea where the spelling, Xmas originated!  I always assumed that it was just somebody's idea for shortening the the proper noun, Christmas.  I know it's  been frowned on from as far back as I can remember, because people thought it was sacrilegious . . . "taking "Christ", out of Christmas.  Interesting idea, replacing breadcrumbs with French friend onion rings. Sounds good, for a change, but I agree that nothing could really ever take the place of bread crumbs for meat loaf!

Jean - Interesting, that your daughter's 97 year old FIL, had a pacemaker installed.  They probably gave him a choice as to whether he wanted it or not, and he chose to go for it, in spite of his age.  I know that AJ would choose to have any kind of surgery, as well as any future knee/hip or other replacements, as long as the doctor was willing.
Good that your dil will be going to California soon, to be with your grandson.  I think about him often, as well as Jenny's dil, Michele, and Beverly's daughter, Donna.

Jackie, I know how sad it is to suddenly hear about someone from your past, who has suddenly died.  What's even worse, is to lose contact with a long ago friend or relative, and then to find out that that person died years ago, and you didn't find out until now. This has happened to me recently, and it's really a shock.

Well guess I'll read for a while, and then try to put together something interesting for tonight's dinner. I have a few ideas, so hope they work out okay.
