Callie, I am aware of the loose/lose connection too.  I notice it more than once in some of our S&F posts.  Of course, the our/out and thing/think things are my own but I'm not the only one who does it.  I happen to read along as I type and correct things when/if I notice them.  If I miss those words, I find them when I post my message.  That's a good proof reader for me.

My father was a Printing teacher in our high school and I learned to set type, also to proof read.  We set type upside down and had to proof read before the type could be printed.  Sometimes someone would drop a type case and I'd be recruited to "sort pi" and I'd get a ride home, otherwise I walked.  I've forgotten the origin of "sorting pi".

Much ado about nothing.

Is it just me who thinks this question is strange, just had an email asking for me to write a review for TENA Direct, a company i order from, and in the box next to the picture of my product of pads, it is giving an example of " how you use the product," well apart from drawing a picture i would expect them to already know the answer to this question...anyway i shall bypass my review...Maybe there next example question is " and where "..
" There is no present like the time "

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I do the, "our-out", typo all the time.  It's probably because the R and the T are right next to each other on the keyboard.  The typo that I make the most, is hitting the K on the keyboard instead of the I.  The I is right above K, and I think my arthritic fingers can't go in that direction anymore?    After I finish my message, I always look at Preview, before I post, and then I correct most of the errors in spelling, grammar, or just plain typos.  Of course, I usually miss a few in every post!  ::)

Jackie - I know what you mean regarding those questionnaires!  The answers are always so obvious.  Still these companies feel that they must be constantly getting our feedback, for some reason?

Mary Ann

Jackie, I'd ignore the questionnaire too.  That you order the product, it is obvious how you use it!

Marilyn, I end up with some weird combos too but I usually am able to find them and make corrections.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

More of those word mixes are creeping into my typing too. Hmmmm! One of the main things that bothers me is to find the writer using I/me wrongly especially when you see something like this. "My sister and me went to the movies." Me is an objective so it should read "My sister and I..." I being, along with sister, the subject of the sentence. The other way around is even worse, and I see this a lot. "George met my sister and I for lunch." In this case the I should be me. I learned early on in school to tell the difference by dropping the other noun, in my example sister, along with the and and then reread the sentence. You certainly do not say George met I for lunch. You would say George met me for lunch. Okay, so much for my soap box.

We are to have, depending on temps and all, 3 to 5 inches of snow beginning sometime Saturday afternoon. Otherwise it looks like it is clear here for rest of the week. It was fair today and probably got up to around 60, but I didn't check. It was up there yesterday.

I did get to see four of the six ships I noted early yesterday morning out on Lake Huron. One of the two I missed was a Canadian Coast Guard buoy layer/ice breaker. I also missed CG Bristol Bay. which had moored overnight at Algonac, when it undocked to head back down to Detroit. The other one I missed was CG Hollyhock heading out onto Lake Huron. This morning I just watched a clip of the Oberstar going into Duluth Harbor. Supposedly the last for the season.

Well, now I know. Shan's new little drone toy was a big hit, but not as I expected. He took off upstairs when I turned it on and stayed up there for quite a while. When he came down he was still a bit wary. He didn't like the noise at all; he doesn't like fireworks and motorcycles either. Oscar, on the other hand watched it and followed it around, but did not try to catch it when it got low. Lucy was upstairs sleeping, so she hasn't seen it yet.

I worked for several large companies before I retired, such as Michael's, Sears, Penneys, or various hotel chains such as the Marriott. So I can tell you that those review questions are genetic. They keep a cost-efficient standard document and just insert the particulars such as customer, name, address, product info, etc.

While I'm usually good at proofreading, I'm not so good at spelling, and yes, I often click more than one key or the wrong one. That's why I use the free app Grammarly; it shows your corrections as you go.

MarsGal, while some grammar errors slip by me it is often the curser being messed up by the finger pad. I fixed it once but all the updates turn it back on and I can't find the controls again. I used to love English lessons but that was sixty years ago! A brief read through catches almost any errors Grammarly passes.

Callie, this cartoon is for you!

Edit: I started this right after Marilyne posted before noon  & had friends over, so I'm just finishing it at 1:02 my time.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, you hit one of my pet peeves - he and I instead of him and me, for instance. My brother was a past master of the misuse and it wasn't that we'd have an argument (we would not), but I just let it go.  I liked grammar in school and have always tried to speak correctly.  I have not noticed too much of "me and him" here but I have in face to face conversation.  I do not try to correct anyone; I'm not the grammar police.

Then there are "may" and "can".  That's another story.

That's a neat cartoon, Patricia.

MarsGal, I have watched St Clair River and seen a bit of action.  I did see the Bristol Bay at the Algonac dock, in fact, I saw it as it docked but did not see it leave.  I did not see  the Hollyhock on the water.  I'll keep looking occasionally this winter as I might see something, but I am not expecting anything.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Love it, Patricia! Thanks!  ;D

I'm a bit of a "grammar grump".

JeanneP

I use to proof read every thing I wrote but now after using computers and being in forums typing so fast I think I have forgotten how to use perfect grammar. I am o.k when just talking to people or writing letters by hand. I can always catch mistakes made in newspapers. So many mistakes in articles written. I am amazed how many well known speakers make errors on tv. when you listen to some. Never use to see any in books but do now. So many companies putting books from bad writers that I don't think they bother to proof read any more.
Now that the texting is the most used way and grammar no longer taught in schools none of it is going to matter at all.

It will go back to old times when grammar was like the accents used . I can still write some of the old northern English ways my grandmother used over 100 years ago. Have a dictionary showing the meanings. Fun to read.

Falls with MS is what i fear as we cant, and i mean literally cant get up from our front, no matter how many offers of hands, people come to pull us up, we have to turn over onto our knees, crawl to, or to scoot ourselves backwards on our backside, then turn over, and grab hold of something solid and pull ourselves up that way...and then Heaven help us if there is nothing for us to grab hold of...
" There is no present like the time "

MarsGal

A lot of us as we get older are susceptible to more falls, Jackie. It isn't just not being able to get back up without some kind of assistance, but the possibility of whacking your head or breaking something on your person. My uncle died after a nasty fall and bump on the head. My Mom, was prone to falling and ended up with a hip fracture. Even with a walker, she would fall. We had a lot of trouble getting her to wear a fall alert, even when she was at the assisted living residence she refused to wear one. The staff was pretty unhappy about that, but they didn't/couldn't force her to wear it. As for me, I try to be particularly cautious on the stairs and in the kitchen where one of my cats is most likely to, of a sudden, dart in my way and trip me. Shan is particularly adept at appearing in a flash. I call him my quantum cat. He seems to be in two places at once at times. I check to see where he is and as soon as I make my move he is underfoot. The little bugger doesn't even have to be in the same room to accomplish this.

Another very annoying misuse of words that is extremely common: Think and feel. Way too many people feel (an emotion) rather than think. Ah, hmmm. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised at thFat considering the number of people, including me more often than I'd like to think, are swayed by emotions rather than thinking through things.

Now the local weather says our snow/mix is to arrive Saturday morning. Right now it is 46oF and windy.

Mary Ann

While I got myself to the floor myself and did not fall, I find I do things very cautiously.  Per request, I do not go downstairs and when I do, I take one step at a time and I do not go to the mailbox any more which is more than a hop and skip from the front door.  I have most trouble getting up the step to the front stoop, then into the house.  In the house, I have furniture and walls to help me.  I would never have put myself on the floor this time, had it not been for looking for my hearing aid.  Those aids do not come cheap so it was important to me.  Then, when I did get down, it was in a narrow place and I could hardly move.  As I've often said - getting old is not for sissies!

It looks like another dreary day here and radar looks as if we are on the south end of a band of snow.

Mary Ann

Joy

Good morning. Just making an appearance.

Too early for anything interesting to have occurred.

Mary Ann,  I am so careful, as I know if I would fall, I would not be able to get myself up.  I do have one of the alert buttons, but I have never had to use it. Thankfully.

But there are times that I wish I could get down on the floor and just stretch out. When I was younger, I used to sleep on the floor a lot.  But, every time I just wish I could get down and just lay there for a while, I suddenly realize that I would  not be able to get up. So, that thought ends quickly.

It is a pretty sunny day, but very windy.  And, they are calling for a wintry mess over the week end.

I do feel better this morning, but still will stay close to home.  My foot is better, but I am not ready for running any races.

I hope everything will have an enjoyable day.

Good morning everyone.  We're expecting a BIG storm to arrive today, with wild wind, lots of rain, and snow on our surrounding hills and mountains.  I like storms, but prefer the warmer, Pineapple Express, to these icy cold ones that come down from the Gulf of Alaska. (No offense Patricia! ha ha!).  My ENT appointment is at 1:30 this afternoon, so I'll have to drive in the weather mess.  I would have AJ,  go with me to do the driving, but he has an appointment in the opposite direction at the same time.

I had one bad fall, about five years ago, right here in my computer room.  I was walking toward my desk, and I tripped over my own feet or something? (no obstacles in my way).  I fell mostly on my face, against the shelf in front of the desk that holds the keyboard and mouse. Everything came down from the desk to the floor, including me.  Long story short, I had a badly bruised face, black eye and sore hip, shoulder, et al.  I did go to the doc the following day, just to make sure nothing was broken. It took a long time for the bruising to go away.

Joy - I read your message yesterday about the problems with your sore feet, and soaking your feet in Epsom salts.  Another thing that I've heard is soothing and healing, is soaking in Apple Cider Vinegar. You dilute it with water, and warm it on the stove, first.  I've never tried it, but I know there are lots of "recipes" for using ACV online.

Well, guess I'll have some breakfast, take my shower, and start counting down the time until my appointment this afternoon.  The rain and wind have started, but doesn't look too bad out there yet?

Good morning from the Interior, I had one of those quirky dreams this morning where I was simultaneously all three characters, a mother, father, and grown son in a family of tailors. The brain must have been housekeeping. I finally awoke at nine-thirty.

I know about issues with getting up as I have the same as Jackie described. I don't have MS. My disability is simply an older version of effects from contracting spinal meningitis shortly after birth. And elderly falls are dangerous.

Yesterday I was carrying some of Farrah's old toys for my friend Dixie to give to her cat. After getting off the elevator, Dixie, eighty, who has thin elderly skin and an artificial knee, tripped on the carpet. It was one of those where you take two attempting to balance steps and then fall sideways. We both have lifelines, so they called hers, and I called security to watch for the ambulance. She had sore ribs, a long bloody gash on her elbow, and the skin above her artificial knee split open. Elder falls are dangerous.

Marilyne, I take no issues with the gulf. It's several hundred miles, and three mountain ranges from me, and our local warm weather comes from Siberia and our cold weather from Canada.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I had heard of dual personalities, but not triple.  That must have been quite a dream.

That was quite a fall your friend Dixie had.  She probably hurts a lot, but I hope she is OK otherwise.

I remember a fall I had in Indianapolis and I never knew how it happened.  I think I landed kind of on my front.  Several people tried to help me but I had them let me get on my knees, then two people pulled me up by my arms.  It was embarrassing to say the least and I could just hear them saying something about "that little old lady falling" (this was two or three years ago).

Today is Annie's actual birthday and I've got to call her on "her" day as we won't get together until Saturday.

I saw the last ships go into Superior today and now the site is empty.

I've been cleaning up loose (loose, not lose) papers and I have a grocery sack half full.  I have more to go through.  The episode about the hearing aid prompted the cleaning out of the papers.

MaryAnn, in that dream I was playing all the characters. I haven't heard back from Dixie as she's still in the hospital. Splitting open the skin on her artificial knee can't be good but since I'm not familiar with them, I have no real idea.

Without a stationary object, I can't get up either without help. I joke that my "getting up" left me behind. I have trouble similar to yours getting into vans or trucks or getting up into buses or down from them. My balance is shaky and I have to hold on to the bar and use my arm to lift my body into the vehicle. I'm cheap tho and the bus is free for those over sixty and VanTran requires a one way trip with no stops, needs to be scheduled early and costs two dollars per person each way.

When you get done with your loose paperwork can you come to do mine? I have a 33 gal plastic tote that's sat in my closet for two years filled with loose papers.

Mary Ann

Patricia, I have enough loose papers in this room to keep me busy for the rest of my life and beyond.  I have enough room to walk to my chair and from there to my printer and the TV.  I have to keep the area wide enough so Tom can get in to adjust the modem as is necessary occasionally.  Tom lost another pound last week so soon he'll be more comfortable in my "path".  I know where what I want is and most of the things lying around I haven't looked at in ages - like your plastic tote.

I receive two Christmas cards from people I want to respond to.  I wrote letters to both right after Christmas but I can't print from this computer (they're not compatible) and I have to put my letters on a flash drive to print them from another computer.  That I did but I had a message that something on the flash drive was corrupted.  I plugged the drive into the second computer, it told me about the corruption and would I like to have it fixed.  I said I would - and would you believe the fix removed both of my letters!  I still have the original letters and I'm thinking about what I can do.  I don't know if the problem is in the Word program or the drive, but I have other files on the drive.  I'll work it out.

I took a nap late this afternoon and I think Tom left, unless he's napping himself.  I'm not hungry now and I'll have to look in the refrigerator to see what is available - when I'm ready.

We had another warm day but some colder weather is coming in another couple of days.

I've looked at TV most of the day to watch all the oath taking, etc.  I only have a vague memory of the Clinton trial 21 years ago.  All the "pomp and circumstance" is interesting.  Another thing I find interesting are the State Dinners on c-span when all the guests are arriving, and a commentator or a historian describes the State Dinners of various presidents.  I enjoy history.

We lost power for about 15 minutes today and I was in a panic.  There is a lot of building going on in the area and we have lost power a couple of times lately.  The bedroom clocks reset themselves but we only have to reset the range and the microwave.  All the rest of the clocks have batteries.  Today the smoke detectors started beeping and I told Larry they must be electric because we've never had to change batteries since we moved here.  Sure enough after he got the step stool and looked it was electric.  However, I don't remember ever hearing them beep when we lost electricity in the past.  Oh, well, now we know——if we remember.

Joy, I'm glad you are feeling better and Marilyne, I hope you were able to get back home before the storm.

Patricia, that was a strange dream.  I've never had one like that.  Most of the time I don't even remember what I dreamed.

Beverly

Good morning.

Jean - We're at 63 degrees right now but the sun is shining. Cooler weather has arrived.

Interesting (but disturbing) to read about the falls some have had.  Since this lung disease with its severe fatigue, I've had to be very careful, too. I know I don't pick my feet up like I should and my balance is bad. A few years ago I found that I couldn't use bifocals when going downstairs and stepping off curbs. I had just seen our daughter off at the airport in Orlando and was waiting for Chape to come around with the car to pick me up. I decided to step off the waiting area without realizing how high the curb was (distortion from bifocals!) Also had my camera hanging around my neck. I took a flying leap forward onto the pavement. The Skycaps made sure nothing was broken, put me in a wheelchair and told me to stay put till my husband came. I could hear the whole crowd behind me gasping! :-[ I did a similar thing at my daughter's house, thinking I had reached the last stair when there was one left.

Donna called yesterday to tell us her PET scan was clear. No sign of the lymphoma! Best news I've had all year.  :)

Mary Ann - I can imagine the panic of not finding your hearing aid. As someone said, not noticing you are wearing it is a good thing. I know people who refuse to wear theirs because they're annoying. Speaking of hearing aids, time for me to change the battery!

Mary Ann

It's kind of cold here this morning.  I look at WOOD-TV news on the computer and they show the current temperature.  I always look at my indoor/outdoor thermometer to see how they compare and I saw 35 degrees.  When the news came up, it read 16 degrees so I looked at my thermometer again and it said 15 degrees, not 35!  Tom came home from Bible study and said Brrr!

I haven't been up long enough for anything to happen around here.

Beverly, I got my first pair of bifocals when I was still working downtown and that must have been 50-60 years ago.  It was winter and I remember being outside during my lunch hour and seeing ice and I found I had to look down on the ice to know where I was going.  My present glasses are progressive and I like them.  My problem now is that my eyesight is going and that has nothing to do with my glasses.

Congratulations to Donna.  I hope she remains clear of the lymphoma forever!

Mary Ann

Amy

Beverly, that is fantastic news!! Love hearing news like that! My friend called last night to say their sister in law's cancer is back and the Dr gave her 1 -2 years . She is going on chemo pills and I mentioned to them that my friend was on chemo pills from 1991 -2012.......even the oncologist told him "I have had you longer than I thought I would" Tis all in the attitude and never give up!!

Good morning. It is a pretty sunny morning, but a wintry mess is predicted for tomorrow,

Beverly, I am so happy that Donna had good news.   That kind of news is always good to hear.

Amy, I have been taking a chemo pill for almost 5 years and I continue to do well.  And, yes, attitude and not giving up really is important. Sometimes it gets a little difficult, but those times do pass.

I do have a lot of medical issues, but I just try not to dwell on them.  I have wonderful family support and that is so appreciated. You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Have a good day.

Jackie -  This will be a sad day for you, thinking about Richard, and missing him on his birthday. Holidays and birthdays always bring good memories of our departed loved ones, even though we miss them even more on the special days.

Beverly - Good news, that Donna's Pet Scan was clear!  That's a great way for your family to start the Happy New Year.  I can imagine that fall at the airport was a bad one for you!  Yes it's that last step that  also seems to give me trouble.  Even going downstairs here in my own house, I hang onto the bannister, and always feel with one foot to be sure, when I get to the last step.

This morning I'm going to make a quick trip to the Hallmark store, that's about eight miles from here.  They are clearing out their Vera Bradley purses and wallets and such, and I would love to get a purse for myself, and maybe some for my daughters and dil, for birthday gifts this year.  I really like the lovely VB patterns - so attractive, but also soft and lightweight!  No leather or heavy purses for me, anymore.

Joy, one would never know you had any health problems by what you don't say.  I figure at my age I have many things that happen to old people but it doesn't do any good to dwell on them.  When I do mention something, it is intended to be an "aside" but that is not always possible.  We're all in "older age" together.  Keep up your good work!

Tom often goes to South Haven with Mary and in the summer they cook out on the beach.  His grill has been too small for the way it is necessary to cook so he ordered a new one and it came today.  He has been putting it together and it is a nice looking thing.  It is just in time for Annie's birthday party tomorrow.  He doesn't know yet if we'll have steaks or kabobs.  Nothing is too good for Annie/Cate!  I say that truthfully, not tongue in cheek.

I haven't said anything here but she is going to Tulsa in her job.  We wish she would not be going so far but she is getting away from her SO.  She finally is realizing he is not good for her.  This party will be a combo birthday and farewell party for her.  In many ways she has matured, but she still is very naive and that worries us since she will be so far away and alone.

Marilyn, Vera Bradley, online, always has merchandise on sale.  I was going to get something because I wanted a purse, but when my cousin died in 2003, Jim gave me a purse she had and with that and the fact I like the purse I am using, I did not get one.

Yucky weather day in Oklahoma.  Western part  has ice - rest of us have cold rain.

Mary Ann, Tulsa is a really nice place to live. Annie should be fine.  Does she have a place to live?
Son is on his way to take me to eye doctor. I want someone official to confirm that eye is as well as I think it is.

Callie, Annie doesn't have a place now.  Tom gave her good instructions on going to Tulsa and she ignored every suggestion.  She's been "controlled" for so long, she wants to be "free".  Tom's suggestions were to help her accumulate money so she would be able to buy a house in three or four years, starting out by staying at the Company house where she'd have a room.  No, she wanted a house and would rent one to start.  To me she was going from the frying pan into the fire but things turned out OK in that respect.  She had rented the first floor of a house (I know not where) and the owner (a man) would live in the basement. I think there was a second floor but I don't know if it was occupied or not. She leaves here February 1 and I think the man did not want to wait that long, so that house is gone.  She's being very independent - from being dependent.  I don't know what her plans are now.

I'm glad you said Tulsa is a nice place to live because Tom looked up the city and decided it was dull.  Well, it is much larger than Grand Rapids and must have more going on than what we have.  I do know she wants to live alone for a while and not be at anyone's beck and call, wants to make her own decisions.  She said if she has a date and he wants to go to Burger King and she wants to go to Mc Donald', they will go to Mc D's!

I'm sorry I can't tell you her company because I don't know it.  It has to do with hydroponics and they seem to have offices nationwide.  I just have not paid attention.

Mary Ann - Just a quick note to tell you that I'm very happy for Annie, and glad that she has broken off with her long time boyfriend.   Not that I know anything specific about their relationship, but when I looked at her Facebook page, it always gave me a feeling that there was something wrong.   Getting a fresh start in Tulsa, sounds wonderful, and I sincerely wish for her future happiness without him!

Amy

Joy, happy to read you are also doing well on the chemo pill. I found it amazing that one could ingest the pill but if it broke you had to ear gloves and a mask to clean it up and dispose of it proper.

Callie, my son is on his way back from Oregon and I know he is not telling all the horror stories of the roads but now he has been through a lot of icy ones. . Hope you get a good report about your eye.
