Jeanne P. I wasn't as shocked as Kelly about your poem. It was meant to be humorous, so I read it all. I read Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck when I was in high school, so I learned early to just read it as a book, and not the truth necessarily.

Lloyd, it sounds like you may have a bit of Vertigo. I have had it and it is hard to control, but is not permanent. There are medications for it.

I had a wonderful surprise today. I tried one more time to get my Von's order straightened out. Got a wonderful older lady on line that spoke slowly and clearly. She walked me through changing things from my visa card to those areas at the store necessary for delivery. It worked. I could have cried I was so happy. She rejoiced with me, so now my groceries will arrive her on Monday, and if any other activities are scheduled for that time, they will be put on the back burner. I don't want any more goof-ups. At my age I always want the Monday to keep following Sunday, and so on down the line.  All is well that ends well. Now I have had a light supper and it is time to go to bed and read, and so to sleep. I wish a safe and happy time for our Janie in Texas. Keep well dear hearts. I wish you Peace, Love, Hugs and Prayers. June

So two attaboys and one ahshucks.  The attaboys for Joanie and June and the ahshucks for Lloyd.  Lloyd I hope things are improving for you.  Problem  being one ahshucks normally wipes out ten attaboys.

Jeanne, I like the poem.  I took as submitted, humor, on the naughty side.

Off to bed.....
Nite, sweet dreams and God Bless.

Been in & out a number of times.... checking on everyone (especially your results,Joan).  Great news, Joan!

One of my painters knocked on the door to say they can't paint today... "the other partner just had a wreck & they had to figure how to get the trailer (with all supplies) from the highway to his home".  Guess the truck is out of commission. They are down to one day to finish but agreed to paint the pool (for another chunk of money) as soon as we have it cleaned out & ready to paint.  Have not heard again if the driver has cracked ribs... will keep him from painting for at least 6 weeks (usual duration for cracked ribs).

My gr-daughter's husband injured his knee (right one, big cast so no driving for many weeks) playing soccer last evening, he coaches but not his "day" job so will need transportation to his job & won't be able to help take the 3 year old to the sitter or pick up...  I am not very sympathetic because he just injured the other knee & everyone had to do his jobs for him about a year ago.  His wife, (my gr-daughter) is the one that had thyroid cancer & massive radiation after surgery a little over a year ago... finally got the okay to have another baby (due in Nov), so my sympathy goes to her.  He just totaled out his car a few weeks ago, me-think it's time for him to grow up~ He is a very sweet person so I should not be so negative about his problems, but they become everyone's problems after a while.  Ah, well........

Besides all these "little" problems, I found out yesterday that the company that made & installed all these sliding doors went out of business years ago.  We put in the same sliding door when we built (both houses built in late 1960s), & we had them repair the one damaged when broken in the year after we bought this one.   I had hoped to just have them come replace all gaskets & weather stripping & rollers on storms & thermo panes & screens, do the job they are familiar with.  Feel like I had a door slam in my face!   :tickedoff:

My youngest son's birthday was yesterday... born in 1963... we lumped his birthday with the other celebrations last week end but have another graduation this next Sat evening & family breakfast Sunday morning. The next week end my daughter is having a repeat hernia surgery, last year after it was done she was lifting on her grand babies.  I think she learned her lesson!  I cooked an eye of round roast today to grind & put in baggies & freeze for her, she can mix it into meat spread as she wants... should make about 7 or 8 bags, they all love the meat spread when I dice hard boiled eggs, sweet relish, Miracle Whip... good on Ritz crackers or sandwiches.  I love it with diced Vidalia onions in it so always have to make with & without.  But don't freeze it mixed.

Like a dummy, I pulled a roast out of the freezer 2 days ago to thaw... didn't take in out of the extra 2 bread bags I put it in before freezing... & had a surprise when I unwrapped this morning... was a pork roast.  Thawed, so I put it in one Dutch oven & ran to Sam's to buy an eye of round & put in the other dutch oven & guess I will slice & simmer in cream of mushroom soup when there's enough around to eat.  My crew isn't fond of pork, not sure why I bought it.

So this is my week & will be non-stop rushing for the weeks ahead.  I sure don't remember my parents being this busy all the time, but bet they were.   Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Callie K, you know how the saying goes, " every little helps..." $3.00!! at least you didn't come away empty handed...... ;D

Jeanne P,  a good Idea, I will wait till I find one that I think is funny, then I shall post it....I think the feedback on this book, I guess her latest book is not as funny as her previous books, I have read probably the first 3 so far, and so far, I have to admit, that they may be right....
Jeanne P, thank you enjoyed the poem, found it funny, her usual humour, although it didn't come across as one of her usual type of poems, topics....agree with Halkel. " on the naughty side...."  ;)

Hi June
I used to watch Pam Ayres on the television at the start of her career as she won for a number of weeks a television talent show.

And she is a funny lady, plus her accent makes the poetry even funnier.

But the subject of the poem 'Fifty shades of Gray, do friends know what is about?

A rude book by what I told!

Funny Wise Thoughts:

- No one ever says "It's only a game." when their team is winning.

- Be careful reading the fine print. There's no way you're going to like it.

- Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? (And rap music will be the Golden Oldies!)

- Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo.

- Business conventions are important because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without.

- Scratch a cat and you will have a permanent job.

A Poem for a Friend
(By Pastor Kerry S. Doyal)

He knows How you hurt
He knows Why you hurt
He knows You
He knows Hurt
He hurt Too
Family hurt Him
Friends hurt Him
Society hurt Him
Life hurt Him

He Hurt

He Hurt Deeply
He Died From Hurt
He Recovered From Hurt

He Lives

He Heals Hurt
He Gives Life
He Knows how you hurt
He Knows why you hurt
He Knows YOU

He Hurts too
He Loves YOU

Good morning everyone..

Woke to the sound of a gentle rain and frogs singing..at 3.32 am...think somewhere in this day a cat nap is in order. Got a few cupboards cleaned out yesterday and I will continue on today.

I'm late to tell you, Joan, how glad I was to read your wonderful news.  "Cancer Free"--- those two words linked together have to be the best to hear in all the world.

Rain is expected again today but I don't have to go anywhere so it's fine with me. I had a lot of running around to do yesterday and last night I was very tired.  Slept well but woke up early.

Take care, All.

Good morning, Amy.  Many talking about having rain, but we get nary a drop.  When you awaken that early, you need a catnap.

Phyllis--Good morning.  Thanks--those two words are music to my ears.  Apparently several of us are going to need naps today.:)

Hi everyone on this Friday morning.  Today is the day I have looked forward to for several weeks.  I will be leaving about 9:45 this morning to drive 90 minutes to Madison, Georgia to have lunch with one of the men's luncheon groups I helped found more than 7 years ago.  We have met in Madison a couple of times before and it is always most enjoyable.  I am going to have to get the air conditioning fixed in my PT Cruiser.  I had Freon added a few weeks ago and it again isn't cooling so know there is a leak.  It was very warm yesterday and I knew I can't put this off.  I only use the car two or three times a week but want it to be cool.

Joy, nature must be trying to restore some of the water tables.  It does seem you should be getting some sunshiny days very soon.  Maryland is a most beautiful State.

Jenny, thanks or the info on Mark's return.  Hope he can find something in the Denver area.

Joan, so happy for you with the good news.  Hope you slept well last night since that worry is no more on your mind.

June, glad your Von's situation is now a thing of the past and you should be set for the future.

I haven't added many comments based on the many fine posts but could have done so.  I make no promises about tomorrow.  :)

Gloria

Good morning everyone, a good night's sleep sure makes a person feel alive again. Sun is shining but showers in forecast later.

LLOYD  glad you went to the hospital, one of those meds were not right for you. Being dizzy/light headed is nothing to ignore. Hope you slept better last night.

JUNE  glad you got your card and order all set for your grocery delivery.

SHIRLEY  you make me glad I no longer own a house. Is there still a lot of painting to do on your house? Hope not. You put me to shame with all the cooking you do for your family. I gave that up years ago. They are younger than me so they can cook and invite me.

KELLY  Fifty Shades of Gray was in the news when it first came out. Seemed like many could not wait to read it, even making a movie from the book.  Not for me.

JOAN  a toasted bagel and cream cheese will be wonderful this morning. I have just copied a Poem for a Friend. That is a keeper and to share. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  rain at night in fine as long as we have sunny days.

PHYLLIS  we are expecting rain here later today.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, don't know what the weather will be like today.  The promised bad weather earlier in the week for last night and then changed their mind.  So will just do it the old fashion way and wait and see.

Hope Jane survived the trip.  Know she is enjoying everyone.

Nothing on tap here today.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  How nice that you can continue to get together for lunch in Madison with your long time friends.  I feel sorry for you having vehicle a/c problems.  Those repairs are usually costly.  I sure did sleep good last night with that worry tossed in the waste basket.

Gloria--I remember all the hoopla when "Fifty Shades of Grey" first came out.  I wasn't interested--not my type of reading material.  Glad you shared "Poem for a Friend".

Good morning, halkel.  They keep saying we'll have rain here--but it sure hasn't happened at my house.

Halkel, if I found myself in that line I would need to take a dozen or so wee's before I reach the front, then some more wee's....  :o

JeanneP

I didn't think "Shades of Gray" worth reading either.  But it sold millions of copies and made a fortune as a Movie.  Nothing shocks me anymore. One has to have a broad mind.  Who of us did not like to sneak a read of some of the books that were thought to be (HOT) when teens. Remember reading such as "Tom Jones" Lady Chatterlies Lovers" "School girls of Paris"  Things like that.  Now these are nothing to the books of today or the Movies.

Kelly. You have to have sat through some of them when younger.
JeanneP

JoanFL

halkel--I saw some snippets on the news with those mobs of people in line waiting to check in.  I think I'd turn around and go home.

JeanneP--Folks have different tastes in reading material.  Yes, I read some that were considered a bit "off color" but nothing like I heard about "Shades of Grey"--and no, I am not a prude.

Jeanne, I didn't think "Shades of Grey" was worth reading either.  I remember sneaking Tom Jones and the other books you mentioned also and Valley of the Dolls :).  We also read the Modern Romance magazine under the covers with a flashlight too :).  Unfortunately, you have to be broadminded and shockproof nowadays,  If you are easily offended by today's attitudes etc., you will give yourself an ulcer.

All the "TA DO"  about
"50 Shades of Grey",  curiosity got me
so I turned on "HBO NOW"  and am watching
it.

28.55 minutes into it,  the clothes started
coming off...    So far  a cute little movie
with lots of scenes around Seattle,
Washington,   near where  I used to live.

It appears (so far) to be a love story!
(giggle)

So I put it on hold and have turned on my
afternoon Soaps!
:smitten:

I will certainly let you know  my impression
of this  much talked about movie.
(Later,  much  later!)

Sandy--I am not judgmental so "whatever floats your boat".

Hi JeanneP
With my upbringing which was based on my families beliefs, no I did not.

Kelly

If I may weigh into this book, "Fifty Shades of Gray?" I haven't read the book, nor seen the movie but the whole point is that we are all different, and so our tastes are all different. What one may positively hate, is another's guilty pleasure.

I remember a similar reaction to a story, book, and movie, called "Pamela," that had many communities up in arms and then "The Story of O." which enraged just about everyone.  Each generation has theirs, boys, their playboy magazines and girls their True Romance or whatever is current now.

I also remember walking into my father's house one time with my sister, he was in his eighties, we were in our forties. We heard just a snippet from his television before he abruptly shut it off.
We carried on with our visit and never inquired. But I'm sure it wasn't the "Wizard of OZ" that he had been watching!

JoanFL

angelface--Yes, our tastes are all different.  That's what I meant by "whatever floats your boat".  That's a comical remembrance about your father, at 80, watching something that must have been "for adults only".:)
