HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES, JEAN.  Best wishes for many more.

JACKIE, I am so sorry to read the news that Joy fell and broke her hip.  I sure hope she does well in rehab and get back to her home soon.  Thank you for sharing the news.

PATRICIA, I am sorry to read that the bug you have has settled in your ears.  I think you need to see the doctor again just to see if there is something else that should be done.  Feel better.
We just finished watching THE TWO POPES. We both enjoyed it very much.

Thank you again for the continued kind words of support for Michele.  She is really tired but doing as well as possible after getting the external Chemo pump removed today.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Happy belated birthday to Jean and Sato.

Sad to hear that Joy has broken her hip. I hope you have a speedy recovery, Joy.

I am glad to hear that Tom is recovering and able to go home.

It has been quiet around here. Not much to report except that George is looking into the possibility for some robotic surgery for his back problem which has been pressing on his nerves and making it difficult to walk well not to mention doing much in the way of chores. He has resisted back surgery for years, but the robotic surgery may be more accurate and with less complications than a human surgeon. More precise, I guess.

Amy

Jenny, Kyle also had the external chemo pump. He would get a dose of chemo in the hospital and  then the bottle of chemo to wear in a fanny pack around his waist. VON would come and disconnect it when done , clean his PICC line and he would be good until the next round of chemo .Every two weeks we were off to the city to start another go..Thankfully everything worked out..

I was about to make comments when my breakfast arrived.  The aide was surprised that I eat so little at breakfast, but it works for me - Post Toasties, milk, oj and coffee.  And I just discovered my coffee disappeared when she picked up the tray. I have enough liquid in me anyway.

Tom and James should start out today and expect to get home tomorrow.  It has been cold here, 11 degrees this morning, but I don't know about snow yet.  I wish it would wait.  W are having a mild winter as far as snow is concerned.

Shirley, I really do not have trouble - yet - getting up out of chairs.  The people are surprised that I stand up straight, then get to the walker.  I'm wondering how the walker will do on carpet; I certainly am not the only person who uses a walker and has carpet.  We had been talking about hardwood/vinyl floors anyway, so maybe sooner than later.  I am sure the cat would not be too happy, but if I'm there, he's happy!  The trouble with my getting out of this recliner is that the handle is hard to move and I cannot press on the footrest to put it down.  It isn't the best of recliners, you know. When the footrest is back in place, it makes a loud noise so I know it isn't me!

I'll be back, but nature calls.

I'm back!  I sat down and the aide came to take my vitals.  All are within the "ball park".

Jenny, I feel so bad for Michele, so young, such a nice family, then having to put up with the terrible cancer.  She is a fighter, but one can only fight so long!

MarsGal, back pain is among the worst.  I can stand just so long, although my therapy has had me standing longer.  Not that I would need to stand much.

Marilyn, it seems like you had a nice Valentine celebration.  I've gotten cards in red envelopes, but not necessarily Valentines.  I used to send them to the kids, but did not get any back and now I get one from Dot who celebrates every holiday.

Patricia, I hope you find out what is bothering your ears.  You mentioned infection and you may be very right.  I hope you find the answer soon.

Now I think I'll lie down a while.  Doing nothing does tire one out.

Good morning, Mary Ann and all other Bait and Tacklers looking in.  I'm glad you're feeling much better Mary Ann and hope all will be well now.  Keep us posted.

I am expecting long time Navy friends sometime today or tomorrow.  I'd hoped they would get here yesterday, but they seemed to be stuck in I-85 traffic.  So I'll just have to stay inside, forego my daily walk until I hear from them.  They've been someplace where the male member has been doing presentations (I don't know what his field is!).

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  I hope the weather where you are is mild and you are comfortable!

Mary Ann, when you get home  you might want to look into recliners that will do everything for you even stand you up!! Just push a button and it slowly reclines you . I know some even have heaters in them! Good to see your posts and see you are more than ready to go home.

Good morning and another cold day, minus forty, in the Interior. Today would have been my federal commodities delivery, but I'm still on quarantine, and Salvation Army volunteers have taken over that delivery for the foreseeable future. My life has become very insular.

Nothing new here, my desktop computer is due back from HP on Monday or Tuesday, and maintenance announced yesterday that the closed fifth-floor pipe would be replaced Tuesday and my shower head also. These maintenance guys from the state replaced the older men from the private company and all seem much younger, twenties and thirties.

Thanks to Michael, all has been righted and is available.  Thank you Michael!

Mary Ann

I had an e-mail from Tom at 11:15 am that they were on their way.  One down and how manyto go!

I think the kitchen doesn't read the menus on weekends so I was brought something else which I refused (and I don't even know what it was).  I said I had ordered a salad.  I had to wait a long time and they probably did not have the salad I wanted, but I was brought at beautiful lettuce salad with two egg halves, slices of tomato at the side, cheese (grated) on top and four slices of cucumber which I do not like.  The dressing was a vinegaret.  I also got cranberry juice which I like and a slice of lemon meringue pie with no crust.  It was much more than I wanted, but I ate most of the salad and everything else.

I had some therapy today and did well; there will be none tomorrow.

It was too warm in this room when I got here and I asked someone to turn down the heat.  I know the aides can't do that and it turned out a nurse did it.  Now our weather is cold and I need the heat turned up.  Naturally, it is a weekend but I don't want to sit in a cold room.  I have the nurses station number and will call that soon.

I'm holding my own, computing and lying down (not at the same time).

Amy, that is a good idea about a recliner.  Mine is downstairs and Tom does use it and it is easy for me to use.  However - I'm not going to bring it upstairs.  I hate to get a new one but if I must, I will.

One of the first things I will do when I get home and rested, is look to my finances.  I had a nice nest egg and I'm not so sure now.  I contributed to Tom's "new" car, a badly needed thing.

Now I think I will lie down a while.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I know you're looking forward to Tom's safe return, (and James too), which will probably be Sunday night or Monday?  I've never been in either Michigan or Oklahoma, so I have no idea how long it would take to drive from one State to the other?    Regarding the recliners . . . like Amy said, the new ones do everything to make you comfortable, just by pushing a button.   We also have one, that is AJ's television and reading chair, and he likes it a lot!   It's way too large for me, so I can't get comfortable in it, but they do come in all sizes.  I think you would probably need a small size?   Your lunch salad sounds very tasty, and contains everything I like.  I especially like hard boiled eggs, added to salads.

Jenny - This last chemo for Michele, is probably very strong, so I can imagine that she is feeling sick and tired since her treatment.  Will she get more next week?   All we can do is hope and pray, that a miracle will happen, and that she will begin to feel better, and will go into remission. I feel so bad for her and for Dave and the children.
We also saw "The Two Popes".  It was very good, and the acting was so realistic.  As I mentioned in here a while back, I loved the scenes that took place in the Sistine Chapel!  Oh so beautiful!   I would love so much to see it, but of course I never will.

Shelley and Claire are still here, and will stay until tomorrow.  Right now they're at Safeway, doing some grocery shopping for me, and I know she will pick out something nice to prepare for dinner tonight.  They do the cooking and clean-up when they are here, and anything else that I need doing.  The weather is still clear and sunny, and right now in the high 50's.

Mary Ann

This room is rather cool and I have a young man looking for someone to raise the thermometer.  I know people have weekends off but I think someone should be on  call at least.  I have an extra blanket and the blind will be closed.  I could turn on a couple of lights, but I don't like the one over the sink because when I type, it is like driving toward the west in the afternoon.

Right now I do not feel the need for a recliner.  I have a smallish chair for my computing and I think I'll make an effort to sit in the living room more.  I have  an overstuffed chair there and I put a pillow behind me and that works well.

Jan came as I was finishing therapy and brought three Hershey bars; I had only wanted one!  I had one square so far and may have one before bed, but I will try to limit myself.  I think I am getting down toward my "home" weight and I'd like to stay there.

I wonder what kind of salad I will get tomorrow.  This one was delicious but larger than I wanted or needed.  I had to force myself with the lemon pie but I had to eat it!!!

Hello, everyone.  This is the first chance I've had to post.

Had a lovely day.  Jeff and Gigi were here and brought pizza.  We played Mexican Train, a domino game, which I love to play.

Thanks for all the birthday greetings.🎂🎉💥

Jenny, I know how heart breaking it is to you and your family regarding Michele's ongoing battle with her cancer.  Our son called this morning and our grandson, age 39, has had some bad news concerning his cancer.  all we can do is pray and hope for the best.  He is getting good medical help at the UCLA Medical Center, but I'm afraid there is not much more they can do.  But like Michele, he is holding on to hope.  His young family needs him.

Jackie, I remember Molly/Mahalia.  I think she also had an Irish name - Ellen?  I enjoyed her posts too and I wonder what caused her to leave.

Nothing is going on yet but I've heard voices in the hallway.  I smelled cinnamon rolls or something similar baking.  I'd like one if they have any left when they get to my breakfast.

I doubt Tom and James have started out, but you never know; it is about 5:30 wherever they are.  They don't hit ET until Indiana.

It is too early for my breakfast and too early for my pills.  I got my tablet charged overnight and I may try to read some of my book today.  No therapy on Sunday.

Good morning from a still very cold Interior! I'm still very congested, mainly in my ears, and still using cold meds and canned saline sprays and washes. My desktop computer is due back on Monday or Tuesday from H.P., and I'll have an appointment for my congestion after that.

Tuesday is also the day for the new part for the pipe in the wall to come in. They have a large hole in the wall, barricaded, on the fifth floor And also the day I'm supposed to receive my new shower head. They had a huge, all five levels, inspection in December, and are slowly working through items on that list. I will be most grateful when they finally get to reinsulating everyone's outside doors and windows!

MaryAnn, I'm so glad that Tom and James are on their way home. And that you expect to be home by Thursday. It's very nice to read your posts and know you are doing well with only minor inconveniences!

I am so sorry to hear of those battling cancer. Everyone in my immediate family has had colon or breast cancer, and my niece is going through breast cancer now. I've read it, cancer, is endemic now due to genetics and environmental chemicals. What has made our lives easier and safer doesn't come without a cost.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I'm hoping you enjoyed one of those cinnamon rolls that smelled so good earlier this morning?  Sounds good to me too.   I remember that hospitals are very quiet on weekends, with a much smaller number of nurses and other staff members on duty . . . and of course the doctors and therapists usually aren't there at all. This is a long weekend, what with President's Day tomorrow, so you might not have therapy tomorrow either?   I'll be hoping for an uneventful drive for Tom and James, with no snow storms or other weather events to deal with on the way home.  I know you're anxious to see them both.

Shelley and Claire left for home this morning.  We had a nice two days and two nights together, but they had to get back home today. They left their old cat, Jerry, so needed to get back to him.  They bring him for longer visits, like during the holidays, but the long car ride back and forth is very hard on him now.  He will be sixteen, this Spring.

Jean - I'm very sorry to hear the bad news about your grandson.  Another young person with a serious cancer, which seems to be so prevalent now. The UCLA Medical Center is well known as being up on the latest treatments, so you know that he's in the best place.  He is always in my prayers, along with Michele.

Jenny - The same prayers going out to Michele.  Both so young with so much to live for.  It just isn't right.  :(

Jean, I'm sorry, too, to hear the news about your grandson.  Cancer is so hard on the persons, let alone the families.

Marilyn, I hope you enjoyed the aroma of the cinnamon roll because none made its way here.  I forgot what came on the plate, but I asked for my Post Toasties and got them instead of what came.  I hope tomorrow things will arrive that are on the menu - my choices.

Lunch today was a chicken leg with veggies and potatoes.  I ate the leg and some of the carrots.  But dessert was cherry pie and I liked that.  One of the aides has taken a liking to me so she brought me a second piece of pie.  She didn't bring a fork but I was able to eat it by hand.  It was good.

I keep wanting to  send my one remaining cousin  an account of what I've been going through but I haven't started yet.  It was more unsettling but now has calmed down.

I do not expect to hear from Tom or James until late tonight and then maybe by e-mail that I won't see until morning.  Tuesday I will go home for a home evaluation.  It's been a good three weeks since I've been there.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Jean,  I'm so sorry to learn about your grandson.

Mary Ann,  Google Maps says the most direct route from Tulsa to GR is I-44 East and then I-55 north....838 miles...about 12 1/2 hours.  Of course, that depends on where in Tulsa you're starting from and where in GR you're going.

Not fair to send the aroma of cinnamon rolls wafting through the building and then not include one in everybody's breakfast.  >:(
  that the aide brought you another piece of cherry pie, even if you did have to eat it by hand.

Will you have to stay in rehab until any needed home adjustments are made?

I have 4 Solitaire games on my Tablet and try to do the Daily Challenge and meet the 3 daily goals for each one....umm...well..."daily"  ;D .  Didn't have time before church this morning and it's taken most of the afternoon to do so.
Need to  :walking: or  :sidedance: or :nanadance: for a while.

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.

I just had a call from James and they are home.  Actually, they got home late last night, driving al the way through (why am I not surprised?).  James said Tom did not drive.  I don't know where James got Tom's keys because he went to the airport and got Tom's car and they drove that.  It is a "new to Tom" car, a beauty, and James said it drove very well.  Tom is exhausted but he had today to recuperate; I don't know if he went to church or not.

My supper was delivered about an hour ago and was not bad, but it is the weekend, so they did not follow the wishes of the diners.  I had a meat sandwich (white bread which was a surprise), mashed potatoes and gravy and overcooked CA veggies.  I ate the sandwich, a bit of the potatoes and the dessert which was three orange sections.  A delicious orange.  A nurse came in with the last of the daily pills and I got them down OK.

A couple of nights ago, the first pill went down the wrong throat and I gagged.  This nurse panicked, thinking I was choking and she screamed for help.  No one came and I was OK before she was.

I still am scheduled to leave here Thursday, but we will have a home evaluation Tuesday.  I hope the evaluator likes our choices for moving some of the pieces.  I really don't have much space to move into but we'll make it work.  I should have a walker before long but it may not come before I leave here.  I will be a good girl and use the walker, but there are short distances I think I can handle alone.

It's good to know Tom and James are in their respective homes.  Now I will think about bed, but it's too early yet.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann, That was a long drive but I'm glad to know they made it.  Hope Tom recovers soon.

.... hm, not very re-assuring to have a " panicking " nurse...i thought nurses were meant to stay calm, take control, know how to handle a situation, not panic themselves...Oh how frightening that " no one came..." I can smile at your comment " I was OK before she was.."

Denver

Sunday night.....this day passed quickly for me.  We did not leave the house.  Managed to get a few things done then we just took it easy.  I made a pasta salad with a LOT of cut up veggies.  Bob was going to grill burgers for us, but neither of us really wanted it, so he had a ham sandwich and I just enjoyed the pasta salad.

Last night we attended a neighborhood gathering.  It sure was good to see and chat with neighbors that we just get to wave at when it is cold and snowy out.  A few other folks from our community were also invited and it was nice to meet them.

Before the gathering last night, Bob drove oldest sons car to the airport and left it in short term parking for he and the family to get when they arrived from Boston at nearly 10 PM.  They arrived on time and were on the road headed for their mountain home in Vail, arriving about midnight.  We were still up so got their text that they were there safe, in spite of snow packed roads.  At least there was not a lot of traffic at tha5 time of the night.

JEAN, I am so sorry to read that your grandson has had more bad news about his cancer.  I certainly know well how sad it is when we hear this from our loved ones😢.

MARY ANN, I am sure happy you were not aware that James and Tom were driving straight through!  Thankfully they are BOTH in their homes resting up from the drive.  I hope all goes well with the home visit in your home on Tuesday.  It has been a LONG three weeks that you have been away....Kendrick will be so happy to have you home💞

MARILYNE, the visit from your girls sure went by fast, but I know you enjoyed having them there.  I mentioned that our oldest son is here with his family, but sadly I do not think we are going to get to go up and see them this week as Dave has to go out of town for business and we are going to be busy helping out with the children all week long😢. They were hopeful we could get up there for at least one night.

PATRICIA, I am sure sorry that you are still not doing well at getting rid of that awful bug you have.  When Bob was at the doctor due to his dizziness the doctor told him how to relieve some of the pressure in his head and he continues to pop his ears and is doing better with the pressure in his head.  All he has him doing is getting a bit of soap/lotion on his finger to make a good seal in his ear canal....he swallows and such a few times the pulls the finger out quickly and the ear sort of pops and does relieve the pressure.  Maybe you would be able to try that?

JACKIE, I, too, miss MAHILIA.  I often wonder what happened that she stopped joining in?  I am sorry that you had another bad storm to deal with.  That sure will not help with the mess in your garden😢😡

AMY, Michele had the "fanny pack" chemo the first time she did chemo after her colon cancer surgery.  They did not use that method the second time around.  She always has to go into the hospital where she gets the chemo treatments done to have the pack disconnected and get the pic line flushed out.  Dave could do it IF he were able to be home on the day she finishes, but he generally is at work.  Sure hope you are not having to dance with the snowblower this week.  We are to have more snow tomorrow afternoon and again on Tuesday, then they sa6 we may get by for awhile before another storm heads our way!

It is past my bedtime, especially after staying up so late last night, so I will say goodnight to all.  Sleep well.

Mary Ann - Sounds like President's Day, is like any other Monday, at your rehab?  You may get something with a meal today that is patriotic or referring to Lincoln or Washington?  Here in this area, schools are closed for the entire week for what they call "Winter Break". It's always coordinated with President's Day.  In two months, the schools will close for "Spring Break", which coordinates with Easter and lasts for ten days.

I hope you see Tom, today, but maybe he'll stay away until he has no symptoms left, from his recent illness?  Will you be going to your condo tomorrow, when they do the inspection?

Good Morning to everyone else here.  I'll return later to say more . . .   now have to get ready for Sandy to arrive, to do her weekly laundry.

Mary Ann

It's been a busy morning and I blew my stack about the number of  pills they give me at one time.  Jan just left and suggested keeping the little container of 12-15 pills and taking them two or three at a time.  And that sounds like a good plan.  What happened is that I was waterlogged and burped and up came a lot of the water.  I did keep the pills down.  Later the therapists came in and I played ball with one of them.  The last thing I did was to "ride" the bike and I enjoy that, leaning back and relaxing for 15 minutes.  They start you out at 5 minutes the first time, then to 10 minutes and after that the 15 minutes.

Instead of checking other folders, I'm going to lie down.
