Joy, I have heard (read) of several cases of appointments being cancelled without the patiet being told.  That is inconsiderate.  The phones work both ways.

Jeanne, I've read about the US dispensing the most drugs of any country.  I do want to say that some (few) of my pills are OTC that that I chose to use after reading or hearing about them -Vit D, Vit B, for instance, but I've taken them for years and the doctors know I am taking them and they are included in the number of pills I take.  I hope that in the future, I can get rid of some.  One med is a liquid eye drop to forestall or slow down glaucoma.  So they are not all pills, but I still think too many.

Tom just came home from seeing the doctor and is getting supper ready.  His back had hurt terribly so I am anxious to hear what he has to say.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Patricia, I am glad that you are almost set up with your desktop.

Jackie,
I hadn't thought of "greasing" large capsules with honey or something like. Neat idea. Thank you.

Mary Ann, I haven't had that problem with my cats, but George had to keep everything up when Orion was alive. The other four don't seem to bother bags now.

Jean, what a disappointment that they couldn't remove the tumor. I hope they can come up with something to get rid of it without being so risky.

Joy, nice (she said sarcastically) that they didn't let you know til you got there that the appointment was cancelled, but maybe it was a last minute thing.

Hi Sandy, Jenny and Marilyne.(Hope I didn't miss anyone),
I hope everyone stays safe and well.

What a fine day on the St. Clair. I sae five fishing boats at Sarnia and one at Algonac. Alsosea made another trip downstream, as did Samuel Ridley. The tug Michigan came upstream followed later by Alpena, her first trip since her winter "nap".

I've been watching Betelgeuse fade away for the last three weeks or so. Now I see they are saying that it is starting to brighten again. It has been a bit too cloudy here to check out if I can see it brightening.

MarsGal...
... i keep a few jars of honey in my cupboard which i spoon the odd spoonful into my breakfast bowl of hot porridge...yes i use just a tiny smidgen it makes it more pleasurable swallowing my capsule first time...ps, i dont coat the pill with the honey, the honey goes into my mouth first followed by the pill, then once they both touch, i swallow...

Good morning everyone!

Not much to report this morning. Last evening I cancelled an appointment for this morning due to a stomach upset that I wasn't sure would clear up in time. Other than that, nothing exciting to report except for the ship viewing yesterday which I already mentioned yesterday.

Someone posted on the Port Huron website a few days ago that Roger Blough is scheduled to be first through the Soo Lock. I am not going to be up to see that. Prentiss Brown and AlgoCanada will be heading up river later today. Right now they are still on Lake Erie.

Good morning from a cold Interior where it has gotten back to the minus thirties. Yesterday I hooked up the new monitor to the supposedly repaired desktop only to find it wasn't fixed. It comes up to the Microsoft W10 home screen with an HP logo and then freezes. Then the online HP service is down so another call when I can barely hear!

MaryAnn, the two clerks I asked to speak up because I couldn't hear them, said they had the same thing and only caught about every third word. So what I have, has been going around, it isn't just me. Many people in entry-level jobs don't have the cash or health insurance to stay home and have families to support.

It's been a busy morning with some accomplishment, but I have some  unfinished business to get to.  I wanted to find my 7-hole pill box and cannot.  It could be downstairs but as I don't do stairs, I can't do what I want to do.  The pill box is not in the upstairs bag that I take on trips and I'm not going to hunt for it but buy a new one or two.  Annie was here and bought me some soups and other things.  I want to organize the pills better than what I thought I did yesterday and the pill box will help.  I also am waiting for Tom to come home so I can find out if he lost or gained weight this past week.  I thought Annie was going to work here but she has left and may head back to Tulsa.

I asked the therapist if my progress is normal and she said it is normal which I liked
to hear.  Each therapist has been very nice and I know I will miss them when the are finished with me.

Patricia, how disgusting that they did not fix your desktop.  My computer is slowing down and Tom talks about a new one for me.  He is a Mac man and I am a  PC  fan.  He begrudgingly works on my computer for me.

MarsGal, I think I read where Roger Blough will be the first ship through the Locks this  year, but we have almost three weeks to go yet.  i'm anxious for the season to start, but at this date, I can wait!

The sun is shining brightly, another nice day, but it's not nice enough that Kendrick and I can go on the deck and laze.

JEAN, I am sad to read that your grandson's surgery was not successful at removing the tumor.  I hope and pray the bypass will be a success and he will be able to eat food again. I know this is hard for you, as close as you and Jason are, and I am sorry.  Continued positive thoughts and prayers for you all. Glad that you did not get the bad winds that were associated with the storms near you.

MARILYNE, it is true that we just can not understand why these young people have these awful diseases, but we have been taught to not question such things.....it is hard not to feel anger😢. Maybe some day we will understand.

News today is that we now have two confirmed cases of the Corona Virus here in our state.  It has been total panic here for a week of people buying many stores out of many items...just crazy!

Bob went to the PT yesterday and finally has started to feel better.  He cancelled his treatment for tomorrow in hopes it is finally over for him, but has two more treatments next week, just in case.

I just added a picture I got today of our Jonah boy....he fell asleep in the car after playing in the park today.  I thought it was very sweet!
Pleasant dreams to all.

A 5 fold jump in less than seven days from 23 to 116 cases plus we have had our first death of Coronavirus here in UK, a woman in her 70's

FlaJean...
...oh how sad to read your grandson Jason endured his operation only for them to tell him they could not remove his "large" tumor, he - they must be feeling totally devastated..

Edited: the figure now stands at 163 UK cases.....

Mary Ann

[size=4]I'm sorry there haven't been any posts here since Jackie's of early morning.  I know I read it and it was in the earlier morning for me.  It is a blah day for me and I haven't done much if anything.  I did arrange my pills for the day.  Since I have 17 to take daily, some twice, I had Tom buy a large pill box to put them in.  Those "take one daily" pills, to me, can be taken at any time.

Tom is at a meeting; he is the meetingest person I know of.  He said his back feels better but he is going for PT Monday.  Between the two of us, we are keeping doctors in business.  The poor cat is on my bed and sleeps much of the day.

Tom fixed me a couple slices of toast which did not set good so I am boiling a couple of eggs.  I hate to eat soups which go down good but they have too much salt and I do not have to salt eggs.  I may like salt on them, but I can eat them without.  And I will.  Tom likes to put salsa on many things and I'm not sure about the salt content of that.

Good morning from the Interior, where it's still cold and depressing. I'm still unable to contact HP about the still broken computer, and they say their repair site is down.

I have mostly housework to do today.

Edit:

I was able to contact HP by phone and they will be sending out another box and label for the desktop to be returned to HP for further repair.

Marilyne

Good Afternoon,  from "Coronavirus Central"!  I hate to bore you all with talk about the CV epidemic here, but that's just about all that's in the news at the moment, and what everyone is talking about and worrying about. It's here, and it's spreading quickly!  Last I heard, there were between 25 and 50 cases right here in Santa Clara County (nee: Silicon Valley), where we live, and many more going unreported. (So they say?). The rest of the cases in the Bay Area are estimated to be about 75, but no one knows for sure.

News broadcasts are especially warning older adults, like AJ and me, to be vigilant, get a good fever thermometer, and stay home.  All of those who have died of CV in the US so far have been older - 75 on up.  At the moment, there is a cruise ship sitting outside the Golden Gate, with 2,500 people on board.  Supposedly, many are sick, and CV test kits have been dropped by helicopter onto the ship.  What they will do if lots of these people test positive, nobody is saying, or nobody knows?  Probably will bring them to hospitals here in the Bay Area, and the rest will be quarantined on the ship.

AJ and I went out this morning - each to a different grocery store - because we needed to get food and other stuff in the house, to have on hand in case we get stuck here.  We also had to buy a fever thermometer.  Haven't had one here in years - since the old days of the glass mercury kind!

Well, thank Heaven for the computer, television, and books, because looks like it's going to be a long siege, and we'll be stuck here for no telling how long.

Beverly

Hello again from sunny Florida. I've been reading the posts every day but can't seem to motivate myself to write one.  :(

Mary Ann - Happy to hear you are coming along fairly well. It does take time to recover and I can understand you thinking it should be faster!

Jenny - That's a darling picture of Jonah sleeping. I hope Bob's vertigo will continue to improve. I have a mild case of positional vertigo and can't lie on my back or turn quickly.

Jackie - That's quite a few cases of CV for a small country. This is one time when living in a place with less exposure to public places and crowds is an advantage.

Patricia - Good luck with the computer repair this time!

Marilyne - Can't imagine sitting in a cruise ship for weeks. When they do get off a lot of them will be quarantined.

MarsGal - Have you tried Jackie's idea of honey when swallowing pills? Honey is a staple around here. I have it on toast every morning with my coffee. Reminds me of the Mary Poppins song..."A spoonful of honey makes the medicine go down!" I've always had trouble swallowing pills and it's worse now.

Jean - I'm so sorry they couldn't remove Jason's tumor. Praying for you and your family. On a lighter note, we're having some lovely weather here in Florida.

Joy - Do you have a way of getting outdoors at the rehab? I know some places have a patio or atrium where you can sit and enjoy a little sunshine. I can't remember where you live, but most places are seeing signs of Spring now.

Sandy - My daughter, Lauri, said she's had some beautiful weather the past couple of days. Hope Spring is on it's way to Maine.

The 2019 Coronavirus has spread to 88 more countries apart from China alarming public health authorities across the world. A total of 101,731 including 80,573 in mainland China,106 in Hong Kong, and ten in Macau confirmed cases, including 3,461 deaths including 3,044 in China, 197 in Italy, 124 in Iran, 43 in South Korea, 12 in Japan, 12 in the US, nine in France, five in Spain, two in Australia, three in Iraq, and one each in the Philippines, The Netherlands, Switzerland, UK, San Marino, Thailand, and Taiwan, have been reported across the world as of 06 March 2020...

I was shocked when i read 88 countries...

No, Bev, I have not tried the honey trick yet. Right now I am doing okay with the pills I have. I just think it is a handy idea in case I have trouble.

Today is St. David's Day, and my sister and I will be going to the local Welsh Society's St. David's Day luncheon. The harpist will be playing again, but instead of a buffet meal, we will be served "finger food", sandwiches and the like.,

A local husband and wife that were quarantined on a cruise ship for 30 days and then quarantined in CA for some weeks have just arrived home. I never did hear if there were any on the ship that got the virus. I think it must have been one of the first ships to be quarantined.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior, where we've shot up 42 degrees overnight to plus 12. Weather folks stated yesterday that this had been our coldest winter in 44 years. We've certainly ping-ponged up and down through minuses and pluses! Usual Marches have snow and not the frigid cold we've had this first week.

The news on the computer is that FEDX will drop off shipping materials on Tuesday the tenth and pick it up in two days, Thursday for shipment back to HP's repair. The best-laid plans and all that.

The news on the coronavirus is that masks only work for those already afflicted, children and canines can pick up the disease but have milder cases and that they believe based on China's circumstances that it may be seasonal like the flu, November through March. The best defense is to wash hands thoroughly, (think washing hands to two verses of happy birthday), and often, avoid touching eyes or mouth and avoid large crowds.

On the two cruise ships, the first one has had several onboard cases, and the second one had a before this cruise, a passenger on that ship who later died of the virus, so they quarantined this cruise.  The biggest issues are with people panicking and incidences of racism of Asians and poor people as well as politicians using the virus to bash immigrants.

I thought I'd better check in to let you know I'm still here.  It isn't been one of my better days but I haven't felt any worse.  I just have not been "with it".  I wanted to sort my pills and sat here just thinking about it.  Tom finally took over and couldn't figure out how I wanted them, so said he'd buy me a big pill holder.  I wanted to use the holders for a day, not a week.  It isn't worth arguing about.

I'm watching golf now and an Asian is ahead, just tied with a golfer from England.

We are enjoying a sunny day and the temperature is at 59 degrees.  Tom is going down to Holland to see the girls; they will be glad to see Grandpa!  He may also see Mary but she lives on the other side of town from where James' family lives.  I'd love to go with Tom but I don't feel strong enough yet to make the trip.

The only time I feel good is when I'm sitting down and my appetite is no good so I am not good company.

I don't go anywhere and the only thing I can mention is what someone has done for me!  I hope in the future I have enough strength to do things for myself.

(In data published last month by the Chinese CDC, out of more than 72,000 diagnosed cases, 8.1% were 20-somethings, and the fatality rate in that age bracket was 0.2%.) That said, given my personal medical history and tendency to get bronchitis, I would really prefer not to get infected."

Sandy

Good Saturday afternoon
from the cloudy, windy, mild
rocky coast of Maine.

I am pretty much hold up here,
with my two girls handling all
of shopping, drug store needs.

I know that "Cabin Fever" is bound
to show up,  but next week
I have to go get my blood
tested  (INR) so my blood thinner
will be able to stay in
control.  (coumadin)

I keep busy monitoring my diet.
I started last week doing a combo
of Weight Watchers and Intermittent
Fasting.  Which for me means not taking
in calories between 7 PM and 11 AM the
next morning...

It is tedious but for me is
very successful in allowing me to
loose pounds.  I order my groceries
at my favorite local grocery store,
and Kelly  deliviers them.    Erin picks
up my meds from our CVS store...

So as long as I don't order foods that
are not on my Weight Watchers plan,
I can stick to it.  I  have already
dropped 7 pounds.  But from now
on I will have to be happy with a pound
or two every couple of weeks.....

Slow going,  but necessary.

Have a good weekend,  Everyone.

MaryAnn, I know you must be feeling very blah right now with no appetite and needing lots of rest, feeling tired. I'm thinking of you and hope these feelings soon pass as you get healthier. I wish I had some advice and encouragement to offer other than what you already know.

Sandy, terrific on your diet! You seem to have it well in hand, even though the tedious parts.

Mary Ann

Thank you, Patricia.  It helps to have someone console you.  When I do eat, I try to have something nourishing, not sweet.  I just had a portion of a bowl of chicken-noodle soup and although it wasn't very tasty, I did eat most of it.  I have a hankering for something sweet and we don't have anything like that around.  We'll see what tomorrow morning brings.

Beverly, good to see a post from you.  Today and yesterday were sunny days.  We have a lot of rain here in the Panhandle.  I googled our county (Okaloosa) and see that we have a yearly average of 140.6 inches of rain a year.  Ocala only gets a yearly average of 52 inches of rain a year.  I really prefer the weather in your area than here in northwest Florida, but it is good to be just a few blocks from our youngest daughter.  When she was talking us into moving here, she did warn us that it rained a lot.  We aren't even in the same time zone as the rest of Florida which seemed a little strange at first.  You would think after four years I would be adjusted. 😊

Mary Ann, I know what you mean about the pills.  I have a seven day pill box which I fix every Sat. night, if I remember.  Even with the pill box I occasionally forget a pill, except my BP pill.  I never forget that.

Marilyne, we have had two deaths from COVID-19.  One of them in the next county to us.  We also have three more people confirmed in South Florida.  We are being careful—-no crowds and no restaurants until things are back to normal. I have never in my life had a case of REAL flu of any kind just what we call intestinal flu which isn't really influenza at all, So I don't want to take chances.

Jenny, what an adorable photo of little Jonah.  A few years back I had a terrible vertigo attack.  My doctor prescribed an anti-vert medication which was such a big help.  I don't remember what it was except it started with a C.  My problem Was apparently triggered by very loud and high notes of music from a concert I had gone to.  Sounds strange but since then I have avoided loud noises just to be safe.

Well, this is the second time I've written a post.  Lost the first one and don't know what I did but poof it was gone.  Have a good day everyone!

Marilyne

Good to come to this folder, and see so many messages. Things seemed to be slowing down in here, but are now picking up again.

Mary Ann - I'm sorry you're feeling kind of down in the dumps, today.  I know you always love to go to Holland, with Tom, but I'm sure it was a wise decision for you to stay home today and continue to build up your strength.  It doesn't look like you're getting much protein?  Maybe you can hard boil yourself a couple of eggs, to have available when you're feeling kind of weak or tired?   Most dairy products like cottage cheese, cheese and of course milk, are good for a boost of energy.  (If you can tolerate dairy foods).

Jean - How wonderful, that you get so much rain every year!  We could sure use a few inches here, but the "storm" that was predicted for today, blew over very quickly, and just left a few sprinkles behind.  Nothing measurable.  We haven't had a drop here in the South Bay, since December.  San Francisco and North Bay, had about an inch in January, but nothing since, so everything is extremely dry.

Sandy - I hope your diet works for you, and you end up with the results you want?  Good that you're staying home, like the rest of us. Both AJ and I quickly get "cabin fever", after a couple of days, so I'm hoping that new cases of CV, are starting to subside, and we can all get back to our usual routine.

Jenny - I agree with everyone else, that Jonah is the most adorable and photogenic of babies! I know you're anxious to see him, but better wait for this epidemic to go away, before you make any plane trips!  Also, flying probably would not be good for Bob's vertigo?

Patricia - no CV panicking going on here?  Even on the cruise ship, anchored off shore, the passengers are doing okay, and understand that this is the way it has to be for now.  They're tweeting and texting their friends and loved ones here, and managing to maintain a good attitude and a sense of humor.   The main thing they are complaining about is that nobody tells them anything, so they don't know if they will stay on the ship, or be sent into quarantine, somewhere in California??  A couple of people are upset because they have run out, or are running out, of their daily mediations.  One would think that that's a problem easily solved, but apparently not?

Yes, it definitely looks now, like those who are really sick with CV, or those who have died, are all elderly folks, or those with pre-existing health conditions.   No babies or children are getting it, except for mild cases, like a cold.  Those in their 20's, 30's and on up to 70's, are catching it, but recovering quickly.  So far many health care workers in Washington and California have caught it from patients, but they are all doing okay and also recovering.

Biden and Bernie, had better be careful, as they are in the danger zone, as far as age is concerned!  They are both out campaigning and shaking hands, and interacting with people in crowded places.  Or maybe they have suspended some of the campaigning for now?

Marilyne, I know that many on the Internet, not here, are spreading outrageous misinformation, rumors, and outright lies. So I've tried to post the most level headed and scientific information for others to read although I don't know if people are actually reading other than you.

Two of the most forwarded that I've seen, the antipathy toward Asians, (As if they planned it!?), or hucksters selling colloidal silver and the like as a sure cure against the virus.

Mary Ann

The best I can do with this virus is take a "wait and see" attitude.  I definitely am in the "elderly" class and before my latest episode would not have been much concerned.  I try to eat wisely when I do eat and I do not have much appetite now.  One snack I have and keep replenished is the P3 packages of meat, nuts and cheese - all proteins.  For me. what will be, will be.

I do read your reports, Patricia - if they are not too long.  I know every word is important, but my attention span is not that long.  My contact with people is through Tom and I know he is in contact with many others.

Oddly enough, I stopped going to church the day before I had the heart attack.  And that had nothing to do with church or the minister; I just wanted to quit because I was old and I had been going to church for over 90 years.  The church is Dot's life and she does not understand!  But I was tired.  I don't like my reason of today, but that is the way the ball bounces and the cookie crumbles .
