Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Denver

It was a cRaZy day around here today with a lot of activity with the chopping down of our beautiful Pine Tree 🌲 SO sad😩

BEVERLY......HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂 to Chape and your daughter. How frightening that the girls thought they were not going to allow them to fly home without the doctor's signature....HAPPY HAPPY it worked out and they are home safe and sound.....I know you are very thankful and relieved🥰

JEAN, good to read your don and DIL are home safely from California.  I hope that your grandson is getting along OK at home.

MARILYNE, hope your girls are feeling much better also....the more we hear about this virus the stranger the symptoms become....seem many have much different ways it presents itself.

Mandatory shelter in place orders today from the Mayor of Denver, and we expect the governor of Colorado will follow the same guidelines.  Seems that is the is the only way we are going to get EVERYONE to follow the rules....too many people ignoring the warning of staying out of crowds.....mostly young people thinking it won't get them....well it does AND they are carriers to others.

Stay safe and healthy and pleasant dreams to all 🦋🦋

Jenny...
...under this C-Virus situation why could they not have suspended - postponed this tree cutting, dont they realise that we need trees for the very air that we breath, they absorb carbon dioxide, and in turn give off oxygen into the atmosphere...Personally i hate to see any tree being chopped down, especially those that have been around for years and years..

MarsGal

Woke up this morning to our Governor announcing a mandatory stay in place order for seven counties (so far). Very little will be allowed except for going after essentials and outdoor exercises that use social distancing. Anyone who is not from PA is to turn back and not enter PA. Today should be the last day (until next time) to check on and feed George's cats. I am a bit worried that by the time I really need to go to get groceries, there won't be anything left, so tomorrow I will force myself out the door to get the things I am low on.

Also on the news is that a local gun shop (and apparently others) is trying to get a closure exemption for his store. A shot of the store shelves showed mostly empty shelves. The owner was upset that a lot of people who do not know how to use a gun are not going to get proper instruction on using them. And, of course, there are those who insist that weaponry are  essential items.

I was thrilled to see two of the biggies on the St. Clair last evening, Presque Isle and Edwin H. Gott. Earlier I saw Clyde S. Vanenkevort. All are heading for Lake Superior. H. Lee White and Burns Harbor are anchored near the Soo Locks waiting for the official season opening. Canada's CGC Samuel Ridley, which has been stationed over the winter at Sarnia, is well out into Lake Superior and heading for Thunder Bay, so I guess the Soo Locks are at least somewhat clear.

MarsGal

Just watched CG Hollyhock heading south on the St. Clair. Glad I caught her this time. Looks like more ships on the move. Looks like they are opening the Soo Locks early, like somewhere around midnight according to those keeping track at Marine city. Looks like the early birds are staring to jockey for position now. In the meantime, I wonder if the Welland has opened. I see CSL Tadoussac left Port Colbourne and is almost through to Port Weller. Think I will go see if any of the lock webcams are up and running.

CallieOK

I've been checking other web cams as well as the ship ones.

Only saw 11 people in 3 Times Square views and they weren't close to each other.
Wish I knew when the hospital ship is supposed to arrive in NYC harbor.  Would be interesting to follow it in on Harbor cams.

A raccoon has moved into the eagles' nest on the Oklahoma state park web cam.  It dug a hole into the nest and one view showed an eagle "inspecting" the situation.  Comment was "Are the eagles puzzled or perturbed?" Raccoon stuck its head out and then went back down.

Sun is trying to shine in central Oklahoma.   Maybe I'll be able to get outside for a while this afternoon.

Onward and Upward.... :smitten:

FlaJean

Another beautiful day.  Among all the bad news there are little tidbits of good news here and there.  Larry and I are both feeling well.  He is occupied with some digital books from our library thru an app called Libby.  I'm going to look at a documentary on Netflix called "Pandemic" which supposedly explains how science studies and prepares for pandemics.

Anyone flying into our state from New York or New Jersey will have to self-quarantine for 14 days.  What about people driving into the state???.  It seems our lives are caught up into this whirl of information.

Jenny, when we lived in Ocala, we had several pine trees removed.  In a bad storm those trees would really sway in the wind and my husband was afraid they would come down on the house during a hurricane.

Haven't heard from some of our regular posters and I hope everything is going well.  Hope you all have a good day.  Will be thinking about you all.

FlaJean

Mesabi Miner going through Marine City.  1pm ct

Tomereader1

FlaJean, the "Pandemic" documentary is an eye opener!  It is well worth the time to watch all the episodes. It is not always pleasant viewing, but the knowledge it imparts is exceptional.

Marilyne

A late start for me today!  Usually I say hello sometime in the morning hours, but didn't make it today,  because an interesting thing is happening, as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic.   People are actually talking on the telephone again!

I had three calls this morning . . .  one from my cousin, one from an old friend who lives in Chicago, and the third one from my daughter Sandy.  I email and facebook all the time with my cousin, and my Chicago friend, but haven't really talked to them in at least a year.  Of course I used to see Sandy, every week, but since we're  all staying home for the duration,  I haven't seen her for almost two weeks.

Things have changed everywhere this week.  Thanks to Sheltering in Place, and not leaving our houses, people want to connect with others, in the old fashioned way.  A back and forth conversation, with an exchange of ideas, and worries and hopes for the days ahead. We can't do it face to face, so a phone conversation is the next best thing. It felt so good to hear those familiar voices!

Here's a short YouTube video, that I think all of you will like.  It's only a minute or so long.

Vanilla-Jackie

Marilyne...
... the video is certainly " a wake up call.." it was only a matter of time before something gives...the video is correct, we have had it so good for so long...and yes again, we have taken so so much for granted...

FlaJean

I liked that video, Marilyne.

Missing Mary Ann today.  I hope she is ok.

Tome, I'm definitely going to watch "Pandemic" starting this evening.  Maybe it will give me a better idea of what is going on.

Mary Ann

Today was a semi-busy one for me and I wasn't sure if I had been on or not but a couple of you reminded me that I had not been here or anywhere.

I take my time getting up and was up, then down when the therapist came. My weepy leg is of most interest and she put some cream on spots where the leg might have leaked.  My doctor had prescribed a new med, not for the leg, and Tom got that this morning.  I will soon have enough pills to start my own pharmacy.  My right leg hurts when I put pressure on it but the doctor did nothing.

I had the therapist scheduled who would help me with my bath but she will come Wednesday and on Friday a different woman will be here,  I wish they'd come a bit further apart but there is nothing I can do about that.

Robin came earlier and stayed longer.  She is a very big help; if I need something she is right there to help.  I need such odd things to be done.  In the afternoon I decided to lie down because I wanted a change of venue.  She came in to see that I was covered, closed the door with the cat in the room so Kendrick spent the afternoon on my bed with me .

This computer does funny things but it could be the program too - I find I am typing three of some letters and it is annoying.  I like it OK but I was not having trouble with the other one - Tom was.

I hope to be back later tonight.

Mary Ann

junee

MARY ANN. thank you for your message and I did know of the passing of June and GLORIA D. Sad to see them missing . I know I have been absent but usually read some of the messages.
MAry Ann, so sorry you have been ill and hope you are on the mend.  Accept all the help you can get and may that troublesome leg be on the mend.
I am now in aged care and at present we are in lock down.  Visitors are only allowed 2-5 pm and greeted at the door with mask, gloves and have temperature taken.  One at a time.  This Corona Viras is certainly spreading throughout the world but I hope they will soon find an antidote.

Beverly

Junee - How nice to see you here. I was just thinking of you the other day while I was going through some of the SeniorNet Bash pictures. I have a few good ones of you with Whimsy and some others. Such good memories!

Mary Ann - I'm sure Kendrick enjoyed joining you for a nap. It sounds like Robin is a big help.

Jean - That's a very good point! Many people drive down and right now a lot of the snowbirds are arriving.

Marilyne - Something good always comes out of something bad. People are communicating more. I would love to see the old practice of writing letters instead of e-mails. (Have you tried buying writing paper?)  ???  I was so happy to get those handwritten letters from my great-grands, even though it was a photo of the letter sent by e-mail. Elise was concerned about us opening mail, but I told her the virus only stays on paper for about 24 hours. We open all our other mail and that's handled by the postal worker.

Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine had a big Spring snowstorm last night. It's warming up so the snow won't last long.

I talked to Lauri on the phone today. She said "You have no idea how scared and stressed out I was when I thought Brynn wouldn't be allowed to fly". She commented on how calm I seemed while it was happening (We were texting). I told her I am very good at hiding my fears and anxiety!  :) They are very happy to be home and in self-quarantine.

Chape has finished the floor and is working on assembling the new desk. Putting it together is quite a project.

Jenny - Thank you for the Happy Birthdays............

Good night all!

Its dry, our sun is out, and our birds are singing like there isn't a care in the world, it is only us humans, who now know different...

MarsGal

Mary Ann, maybe you are holding down the key a little too long. If you press and hold the letter will keep repeating. I thought there was a setting for slowing that down, but I can't find one. The only thing I can find is for mouse pointer speed.

Ships are on the move through the Soo Locks now. I found a live cam yesterday, but it said the feed was unavailable. I can't seem to find any live feeds this morning.

Today is going to be rainy again. It is 43o right now, but feels pretty darn icy to me.

Vanilla-Jackie

Just this minute heard on our BBC news that our future king, Prince Charles has tested positive for the C - Virus although only showing mild symptoms...

Mary Ann

MarsGal, you are partially right.  While I don't hold my finger on the key, I do have a tendency to put my fingers on the keys before hitting the next word and that does it.

I got up about 7:30 and my leg hurt so much I went back to bed and stayed until 9:30 when I knew I had to take pills and have breakfast..  Tom got my leg on the hassock and it is still there but it took a lot of pain to get it where it does not hurt.

An OT   will be here this afternoon to give me or help me with a bath.'

I'm sorry this is so much about ME but that is where I am now.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Good Morning,

The sun came out yesterday afternoon and is still shining this morning.  :)

I didn't "make hay" but I did sweep the garage. 'Twas nice to be outside the inside walls for a while.
Tried to spray some weeds coming up in the flower bed but the bottle "spit" instead of spraying. May have to try and unclog it with a toothpick.

Junee,  how lovely to see a post from you.  I have such fond memories of you and Whimsy visiting GinnyB and the Southern Dinner she/daughter prepared for you, Helona and me. As I recall, the marmite you'd brought didn't go too well with the southern cornbread.  ;)

Beverly,  what a relief to know your girls are safely home.

Mary Ann, no apologies necessary for letting us know how your recovery is progressing.

I keep saying there's plenty to do around here.  Off to find some of it and get it done.

FlaJean

Sun is shining 77°F.  Not much to write about.  Staying in and away from others.  We did walk around the block yesterday with no one in sight.  Everyone inside apparently.

Both my daughters (one here and one in Canada) work from home.  It sounds like some help will eventually come for people laid off and small businesses.  The senate supposed to pass the bill today and don't know how the house will handle the vote as the representatives are gone.  Will they have to fly back to DC or will they agree on a voice vote.  People need help so I hope everyone will try to work together.

Jackie, I read about Prince Charles having coronavirus.  He looks pretty healthy so maybe it will be a mild case.  I hope you are feeling OK.

Mary Ann, good to see your post and sure hope you have a good day.

Marsgal, I did see that one ship yesterday in Marine City but then got interested in other things and never got back to any of those sites.

Callie, you manage to keep pretty busy.  Don't overdo.  I got a few housekeeping tasks done yesterday but I definitely didn't overdo.😊

Sandy, I guess things are quiet up there.  Not much to see as people aren't moving about.

Marilyne, I hope everything is going about as good as it can be, under the circumstances.  Will be looking forward to a post from you.

Patricia, what's your weather like these days.  It is such a different climate than any I've lived in that I can't imagine what it would be like to have so much sun in the summer and darkness in the winter.

Joy, Jenny and everyone who posts, you'll have a nice day, I hope.

SCFSue

Good morning, all you Bait and Tacklers.  It's sunny here this morning and I had a good walk around my neighborhood.  No one else was out, but that's no surprise as most of the neighbors are younger and are off to work this morning.

Mary Ann, I'm praying for a speedy recovery for you.  I hope the physical therapy is helping.  Keep us posted and of course, try to take it easy.

Sue

CallieOK

Jean, oh, I don't overdo!  After sweeping the garage, I was in my recliner with phones, tv ears, tablet and diet Coke at hand.

However, I am now officially Stressed.

Just learned that #1 son has been furloughed "until further notice" from his long-time middle manager's job at Hertz and the landscaping company for which #2 son is The Designer is shutting down because it's "non-essential".
I know they'll all manage - but this is NOT good for my blood pressure!!!!

Onward and Upward....hopefully.

Marilyne

Mary Ann -  Please don't apologize for talking about yourself and your health problems.  You had a serious heart attack, so of course your focus is on recovery, and everything that is going on at your house.  When you have related issues like the painful weeping leg, it certainly does concern you.  We want to know how you are, so keep posting as much as you possibly can.    We all have our own personal issues to worry and complain about,  and this is a good place to talk about it.

Beverly - I join with everyone else in being relieved that your girls are home safely.  Even though they are in self quarantine, that's much better than being stuck in Thailand!   Self quarantine here in the US, is probably no worse than Shelter in Place.   We are all ordered to stay home, here in California.

MarsGal - How wonderful, that PA is restricting travel into the state!   That will make a big difference in the number of CV cases.  I wish they would do that here in CA,  but I doubt it will ever happen.

I was shocked to read in the paper, that planes will be allowed to fly into San Francisco from China, starting tomorrow . . . Thursday. Flights from China have been banned for the past couple of weeks, so why has this ban been lifted??    Why Why Why, I ask?   Here in this one small area - San Jose/Santa Clara County, There are 375 hospitalized right now, 29 deaths, and thousands who are sick and can't get tested, because there aren't enough test kits. We don't really know the actual statistics.  They are utilizing hotels, both large and small, to house the sick.

Jackie - I saw on line that Prince Charles is in isolation at Balmoral,  and that he has a light case. He is my favorite Royal, since watching "The Crown", and "The Royal House of Windsor".   I would assume they have the Queen and Prince Philip, isolated under lock and key, and away from everyone.  Both in their 90's, and I know Philip is in very fragile health. Neither would last long, if they caught CV.

Good morning Jean, we have had six new cases locally of the virus, and the city and this building are remaining on lockdown. There are 38 cases just since the 16th in the State with the majority in the Interior. Medical professionals, both locally and nationally, don't expect any real changes for some months despite what politicians are promising.

We are also, since Friday, amid forty-mile wind gusts, fog and blowing snow with sixteen inches presently on the ground. It's very unusual weather, even for March.

Farrah and I have been amusing ourselves with playtime, Youtube videos, and plenty of time spent on Kindle. I've also had daily phone calls and emails from friends, just checking in.

Some good friends left me a care package with building security containing among others, a tin of imported Irish steel-cut oatmeal that takes thirty minutes to prepare and is delicious with some local honey. There was also, imported from Israel, a canister of consomme.  I've used that as a broth, and in mashed potatoes, and some soups and stews.

Today at noon, I'm expecting a call from HP arbitration on my continuing desktop computer saga. No one seems to know how my computer was damaged and then disappeared while in their repair service and if anything can or will be resolved. This comedy of errors has been going on since mid-August. I'm not expecting good tidings.

Marilyne, the virus seems to have run its course in China and things are stabilizing with many activities and movements returning to normal. China has begun sending supplies and relief efforts to many countries. Spain, Italy and the US are the new epicenters of the virus.

Callie, from what I'm hearing, this is not a temporary situation but the new normal.

Sandy

Good Afternoon from the cool but
sunny,  rocky coast of Maine.
We do have some snow on the
ground, from the other night.
But it is melting away.

I had to go out this morning
to have blood drawn for my INR
test,  which a couple of weeks ago
was too high...

I was very surprised to see that there
was only one person a head of me...
shocker!!

Kelly made me wear gloves and gave
me a face mask,  but I only used a scarf
wrapped around my nec to cover my mouth
when necessary.     Everyone at the
labatory where they draw blood,
was wearing masks...  I tried not to
touch my mouth and when I came home
washed my hands and sprayed my clothes
with Lysol All purpose cleaner,
just in case...

Boy, this is going to be a long tough
row to hoe trying not to panic from
this very dangerous Pandemic.

But I can only do the  best I can
to try not to be a victim.    Kelly
even came in today wearing a mask
when she was near me.

She is the only member of our
family who is out and about visiting
grocery stores and taking those that
need to go to Doctors etc,  so she
is trying to do it all and not spread
the virus should she get it and
not know.

I worry about Kelly,  but she is
doing what she wants to do for her
family while she can ....

Best wishes to everyone.....

Mary Ann, you are always on my
mind.

Sandy

Marilyne

Patricia - the flights that will be arriving from China, starting this week, are NOT good will flights, carrying supplies, etc.  They are regular passenger flights, resuming their original schedules . . .  pre Corona Virus.

An excerpt from the San Jose Mercury News on Monday:

"On Wednesday, China Eastern will resume a daily flight between SFO and Shanghai, arriving at 10:30 a.m. and departing at 1 p.m., while an Air China flight of an undetermined frequency will arrive at 12:20 p.m. Saturday and depart at 2:50 p.m. China Southern plans to resume four weekly flights March 29 at various times between SFO and Guangzhou."

MarsGal

Callie, Marilyne, as with many things, I doubt that the prohibition against people from other states driving into PA is going to be enforced. PA seems to pass many laws that never really get enforced so I don't see they will enforce this temporary edict. Also, I was talking to my broker earlier today and he said when he was out he was seeing lawn services people out doing their work. That is one of the businesses on the temporary business shut-down list, so you see how people pay attention to that.

Frontenac has left her winter berth and is down around the bend near Marysville right now. Manitowoc has her GPS going; it looks like she is preparing to leave soon too. I'm looking to see where Algoma Conveyor is now. They are saying she ran aground. How embarrassing for them.
