Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Patricia - You put a smile on my face tonight!  Number 3, really cracked me up!   I think that's what will have to be threatened, if some of these people don't stay home! LOL  Not so bad here, but I guess it's an ongoing problem in NYC!

Jenny - I missed your post from last night, and just now seeing it.  Sorry to see that you won't be able to visit your Dad for his birthday.  Under these unusual circumstances, I know he will understand.   I hope that Michele is doing well, and is will stay healthy during the pandemic?   It's good that schools have been closed, so the kids won't be as likely to bring home the virus - but must be hard on her to have them home all day every day!  I surely do hope that Dave, will not have to deal with any Coronavirus patients, in his practice??

Beverly - I  haven't seen any messages from you  lately?  Hope we hear from you, that the three travelers are out of quarantine and that they are 100% healthy!

Well, guess I'll clean up the kitchen, and then watch about an hour of TV, before getting ready for another restless night.  I haven't been sleeping hardly at all for the past couple of weeks.

Mary Ann - Thinking about you tonight, and hoping that you're feeling better and that the leg pain is almost gone.

Jackie - It's great that you're doing these daily walks. I find that just getting out into the sunshine and walking around my small yard is uplifting.

Jean - Our rain didn't last long. It was bright and sunny all day. Since it was cool I opened the lanai windows and front door to change the stuffy air in the house.

Marilyne - Happy Birthday to Sandy! A good comeback would have been that only special people get to have their birthdays on April 1st!   edit: Just saw your last post. Thanks for missing me! I left a short message last night,  but have had a couple of "those days"!

Tome - I have an old Good Housekeeping cookbook from the 1940s that belonged to my mother. It's a great book and I've used it a lot over the years. It has a cornbread recipe that sounds as if it would come out cake-like. I was browsing through it today and found such things as recipes for brains, sweetbreads and other things I wouldn't eat!  ::) I like to use cornbread with homemade pea soup and chili with beans. I don't mind it being crumbly because I break it up into the soup or chili.

Callie - Being a northern girl I like my cornbread with a little sweetness. The cookbook I just mentioned has Southern Corn Bread the way you like it and Northern Corn Bread for me! It also has a recipe for Johnny Cake, which is what we called our corn bread when I was a child. We used to say "Pea soup and Johnny Cake makes a Frenchman's belly ache." It was a rhyme my mother (who was French) grew up with.  :)

I need to put another grocery order in tomorrow. Instacart (their labor union) is threatening to strike. Publix announced today that if they do Publix will be offering curbside pick-up.

Good night to all.........

Bubble if you see this post, can you please start up a " C-Virus prayer room " for us members who wish to post the odd daily prayers for our country, countries, medical staff, etc, if other members would also welcome a prayer room so we can all pray together on our forum, maybe in the "Tranquil Cove" would be the best place after i saw these terrifying death figures this morning...

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

I have removed my prayer and posted it in the appropriate room now set up....

CallieOK

Beautiful, Jackie, and well said.  Thank you.

Just back from another forced downhill-uphill slope short walk, i wasn't trusting my MS body so mush this morning as the nerves in the top inside right leg-crutch join were more active...

...I am due for a couple of home deliveries today, lets just hope they arrive as our Royal Mail are still delivering and reliable  but with some of the other courier service's, is unsure whether it is or it isn't, or just falling behind their expected delivery dates, as one of my delivery items is..

...Looks like we have ourselves another dry, sunny day although the sun was hiding when i went out 8.55.am, i was back by 9.10, now, less than 30 minutes later it is deciding to come out and show itself....

...Time to go make my breakfast, catch up on yesterdays recorded Coronation Street..

...Oh just this minute had a great tit or blue tit bird outside trying to get in at my office window just looking at me, same as for yesterday, another great-or blue tit was doing the same several times throughout the day only this time in my living room, the spiritual world says someone in Heaven is trying to send you- me a message or, a positive change in my life is coming soon or, this is an omen of " death."

...I remember the day i came home from the hospital of where my father had just died, i came indoors by myself, moved an armchair only to find a dead pigeon in-between the two armchairs, this totally freaked me out as i had just lost my father, and here was another death, of course i scooped it up with a dustpan as the under side was riddled with ma**gs, have no idea as to how or when it got in...this happened 32 years ago...

Edited: just this minute phoned a neighbour across the way who puts out my rubbish bin weekly to say a special thank you in light of our now situation, although it has to be placed at the end of my thin pathway that if still there in the morning will completely block me and my rollator from stepping off the curb onto the downhill slope...My neighbour told me we are clapping outside our homes again 8.pm tonight in aid of our UK NHS, i didn't even know they had already been doing this on our parkhome site, i of course will step out onto the concrete step and join in with them, i would also like us to be clapping for our Royal Mail and other postal delivery and couriers that come to our home..these are the people who place themselves on the front-line and we really do need to show our appreciation to them...

HOUSE HUNTING IN IRELAND

A couple about to be married were looking for a cottage and after a lot of trouble found one to please them. On returning home they were quiet for some time, when suddenly the bride to-be asked if he noticed if there was a W.C. in the house. He could not tell so they decided to write and ask the landlord. The landlord did not understand the term and after thinking it over, came to the conclusion that W.C. meant Wesleyan Chapel and answered the letter as follows. Dear Sir, I very much regret the delay in this letter, but I have much pleasure in informing you that the W.C. is situated 2 miles from the cottage and it is capable of seating 250 persons. This is very unfortunate for you if you are in the habit of going regularly. You will no doubt be glad to know that a great many take their lunch with them and make a day of it, whilst others who cannot spare the time go by car and arrive there just in time, but generally are in too big a hurry. The last time my wife and I were there was six years ago and we had to stand all the time. Hoping this information will interest you.

I remain, yours faithfully. Pat Murphy Balbriggan, Co. Roscommon 13/5/1913 ( Family story submitted by Mandy Blain )

There are now at least 214,461 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States, the most worldwide
At least 4,841 people in the U.S. have died from coronavirus-related illness, a total that has tripled in five days
The U.S. now has the most cases in the world, well ahead of China and Italy

Jackie, that was so funny.  The biggest laugh I've had in ages.

Sandy, pretty cute song.  Had my feet tapping!

The sun is shining!  Things are quiet here.

Have a good day.

Jackie, loved the story.  ;D

Patricia,  I like to make quick breads but there's no beer at my house.  ;)

Beverly, my parents were "Yankees" (well - from Kansas and Nebraska) and we didn't eat "Southern".  I learned to make cornbread, black-eyed peas and fried okra after I married my Mississippi native.  However, I told him if he wanted turnip greens or pinto beans, he'd have to go to his mother's!

I put three chicken breast halves in the slow cooker this morning.  I'd found an article that suggested doing this and then dividing meat into sliced, chopped and ground.  Good idea for a variety of meals.

Lunch time.

Jackie, loved that story!  Thanks to you for those beautiful prayers. I think I will copy them and add them to my morning and evening prayers.  Bless you, and I am encouraged by you being able to take little walks, and that there is now someone to telephone you each day to check in, and that there are food deliveries coming on a regular (?) basis.  Big hugs to you!

FDA requests that all Zantac and ranitidine products be taken off the market due to carcinogen risk
The US Food and Drug Administration said it found N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) levels in some ranitidine products increase with time and temperature posing a risk to consumers. Over-the-counter ranitidine users are advised to dispose of the drug, and prescription users are advised to speak with their health care professional about other treatment options.

Oh when is this going to stop...France 1,355 deaths today..where is our God, why is He allowing this to happen...why wont He put a stop to it..

Joy

I just read quickly through the messages.  I sure miss Mary Ann's messages, so do hope she is feeling better. I have been busy with phone calls, getting meds in order and had a nurse and OT visit.  The OT decided I was doing well and wouldn't need any more OT.  One less person to come.   But, I am doing well.

They have locked out visitors from our building.  So, if anybody brings anything I will have to go down and meet them at the door.   I will have to really be careful as I sure don't want to wind up falling again.

I will be getting PT starting next week.  And, a visiting nurse will come once a week.  I think that will last about 6 to 8 weeks. Just depends on how well I do.  I still will be very careful when walking any distance.

I will check back in a few days.  Have a great evening.

Yes I use to have a good recipe for beer bread. We did it when in Seniornet. Was a lot of bread bakers back then. It's used in place of the yeast. Google it. Yeast hard to find now . I have a bottle of beer here from last summer but don't think it strong enough. My gran used black beer. stout

All around our UK we are stepping outside our front doors and clapping for our NHS and all who are on the frontline when dealing with our C-Virus pandemic...Not sure if this will be every evening at 8.pm or once a week on a Thursday only but i was out there with them last night and must have missed doing this the previous evening as i believe it had started from that day before, come to think of it i did hear some unusual noise that as i think about it did resemble the echoing noise of last nights clapping which lasted just a few minutes...Link to our BBC News story...

Jackie, please remember that not all of the S&F members are Christian, some will be of other faiths or none. And religion and politics should have their own separate folder.

Patricia...
...I have already posted for Bubble to move it to somewhere more appropriate if need be, and start up a C - Virus prayer room to give us the freedom of posting from all varying religions, we dont seem to have one...a time for us all to come together, whatever religion we are..

Callie...
... thank you for appreciating my chosen prayer..

Our morning weather is dry but very overcast, i shall attempt another early down hill-uphill slow walk, but first i have to manuver myself and my rollator from the end of my narrow pathway where the large wheelie bin is now situated...my across the way neighbour puts out for the bin collection who have already been and emptied this morning, as it is blocking me from stepping off the curb onto our private roadway..

Then it is back, do my breakfast, sit down, relax, and play catch-up on yesterdays recorded tv, Coronation Street, MasterChef, re-runs of Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond, for the umpteenth time...

Oh i am due another Betty's Tea-Rooms of Harrogate home delivery, they are still continuing to make cakes and deliver to the customers...this time of a tin of biscuits ( comfort food ) to dunk in my cup of teas, i am a dunker...

Good morning to everyone.  Hoping that everyone who reads this discussion, remains healthy and strong.

We're all doing our best here in Santa Clara County, but only feel like we are staying one step ahead of the dreaded virus.  Number of cases in the county jumped to 1,020 today. Number of deaths at 39. I'm not watching the news as much as before.  It's just too depressing.

Jackie - Thank you for your inspirational postings.  I have read them all, and they have been very comforting.  I have sent them on to my two daughters, and dil.  Thanks for asking Bubble to open a separate Coronavirus folder.  It could include general talk, questions & answers, suggestions, links, and prayers.  I hope she opens it soon.

SCFSue

Good morning, All Bait and Tacklers, especially Mary Ann.  I hope you are feeling better today and will continue to improve.  Thoughts and prayers going up for a full recovery AND SOON!

It's bright and sunny here in Auburn, Alabama here this morning.  I'm planning a short walk outside before lunch.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
