Had a message from Jenny last night that she is having trouble getting in. I told her about the problems with Safari & the Apples..... hopefully someone will fix it. I did mention that ones using Chrome seem to be doing okay (I do, too). A little cooler here today, but I LIKE IT!  I am already dreading a hot summer.

Just heard on the radio that a cluster of virus cases showed up in a nursing home in my end of the city, a little concerned since many of them shop at the same grocery store I do, not that they may have been out but the carrier could also be shopping at MY store!  Kind of scary since I have been in & out a number of times & plan to go today for "fish bread". Got so many big ole catfish & few carp showing up I've been giving them a whole loaf at a time. I know the guys that love to fish are dying to get at them. One stood the whole time I was feeding yesterday (across the river) & watched the splashing & action. They aren't good to eat, too much stuff washing into the water from yard fertilizers & weed killers, but a lot of people enjoy catching  & throw back. Anyway, I enjoy having them come when I whistle and just like seeing them "pig out". Gloria, wish you lived near enough to walk down to the river with me, think it would be a kick for you, fresh air & talking to the critters (yes, I do talk to the fish). Love to have all of you join me, maybe need to take photos to show you now that the trees are leafing out & got nice shade.

Stay safe, KS is opening the first stage today but it sounds risky. Too many people have been sick but not enough being tested to know why (including me). Got a busy day ahead so better get on the move. Shirley

So far, so good. I discovered that the particular code, actually it was a message as to what to tell the Tech if you called, was caused, most of the time, by un-updated drivers. I had already checked on that and Windows said they were up-to-date. Well, since this is a new machine and HP has it's own diagnositcs, I did that tool. It came up with at least five driver updates I needed. I installed those, restarted the machine, but still was getting the message. I even uninstalled Google and CCleaner which were the last software updated and went back to an earlier restore setting. Still had the problem. I had to leave so I gave up and shut the power off to the machine. I've been on the computer for at least a half an hour now and no problem. I still have no clue what the actual problem was.

It is a lovely cool, sunny morning with a bit of a breeze. Nice to be out in the yard, but I have other things on my household agenda today. My backyard mowing will wait until Thursday.

Marilyne

Donklan - I enjoyed both of your links so much!  Loved all those incredible trees, hanging in there, and surviving.  I'm going to send it to my two daughters, who are having a rough time during this pandemic.  Also, the Duluth Bridge cam is my favorite of all the cams I have on my desktop. I love to see the boats going under the bridge and watch all the people who show up every time. Always makes me feel good!

Good morning, all you Bait and Tacklers.  I slept late this morning because I was trying to finish a novel I was reading.  It was just too good to put down!

I hope Every One looking in is OK and having a nice day.  Take care and enjoy your day!

FlaJean

Beautiful day!  Larry is out pressure cleaning the the walks, driveway and porches.  For those of you who live in dry climates you don't have to put up with that black mildew.  It is a yearly cleaning job.

Donklan, I loved seeing all those odd trees.  We saw a few unusual trees a few years ago, especially a huge banyan tree in Cypress Gardens.

Jackie, I'm glad a nurse came out.  I know what you mean about the blood tests.  when I was being checked for a blood disease the lab technician took 11 tubes of blood.  I thought she would never get done.  Thank goodness everything turned out OK.  I sure hope the antibiotic works soon and you start feeling better.

Have a great day everyone.

... the most phials taken of blood from my arm have been five but, to take eleven from your arm :o must have been a good pint bottle of blood, hope with your eleven they found what they were then looking for..

Donklan...
... I loved seeing those unusual trees...trees will and do outlive everything, so fascinating and full of life.....

JeanneP

Loved seeing those trees. Once our start leafing out and the woods open I am going to start looking for some. We have 3 famous very old ones in the town that are famous. Way over 150 years they say. Had many more as my part use to be more forest but construction took over in the 60s. Interstate went through. Changed the area.

Today was another beautiful day.

Tonight the fire/rescue trucks were at a house down the street from us. I don't know the people who live there but hope it wasn't too serious.  Always hate to see those trucks in our neighborhood. We live on the upper end of a loop and most of the people here are friends who've lived here for close to 20 years. There was also a police car there.

I'm sorry there are still people who can't get into S & F. I also got a message from Jenny on FB. She's feeling frustrated. These forums are important at a time like this when everyone is confined to their homes.

Jackie - I hope these new antibiotics will clear up the cellulitis. Have you received  the med delivery yet?

I miss seeing Mary Ann's posts.

Have a good night all.

Beverly

I just received an e-mail from a friend across the street. I had the wrong house. One of our long-time neighbors passed away suddenly. :(

Medications arrived at my front door just before mid day...Well here we go again...Phenoxymethyl-penicillin two tablets to be taken four times a day....plus, Flucloxacillin one capsule four times a day... Twelve a day in all..
...As my late father would have said to me.." if we turn you upside down, you will rattle girl.."

Jackie, that cellulitis problem will be an ongoing one I believe. I don't remember when I got those cellulitis sores and received rounds of antibiotics like you are having now. What finally helped was a treatment of drip antibiotics in the arm for two weeks. After that 3 different creams mixed together of two months. The dark redness on the leg of course is now permanent - for life but at least it is not hurting much.  I do have to put cream on it daily to prevent dry or sore skin, and massage in the evenings for the swollen ankles. I was also prescribed compression stockings. These are hell in summer.

... oh dear, frightening to know that we share this one thing in common isn't it...Your story is replicating my story so far...i feel i will be on yet another roller-coaster with very little progress forwards....I too have to continue with the Dermol 500 cream and second and third course of antibiotics - penicillin..... Main concern now is it doesn't turn into sepsis..

Just a note, I get word from PatH that she is also having trouble getting into the site now. I don't know what browser she is using. For the moment, on this new computer, I am using Microsoft Edge and, surprisingly, liking it. Chrome is installed but I haven't used it much. I still like Chromium better. It doesn't have all the whistles and bell I would never use that Chrome does.

I feel terrible, that so many of our members are unable to access Seniors and Friends!  Jenny (Denver), who posts here and in SS,  PatH, who posts in the Leisure Activities folders, and CottonCandy, who is a regular in Bosom Buddies, and sometimes posts here as well. There are other long time members who have been mentioned, and I think it's sad that they have been shut out, and no one has an answer.  A solution seems possible, since it only involves those who use Apple devices with Safari or Firefox, and is apparently only a problem with this one website.

MarsGal - Suggest to PatH, that she download the Chrome browser, which is what finally worked for me and for others. However, it hasn't worked for everyone.  We still need some answers?

Beverly

MarsGal - I'm also using Edge and liking it. My husband talked me into trying it. (I'm not one to like change.  ;) )

MarsGal

PatH just caught me up. She is using Safari on both computer and phone.

Microsoft Edge came with Windows 10 on the computer I got a few months ago.  I've had no problems with Edge or with Windows 10 (although I do not like it!!!!)

Jean,  my patio gets that damp mildew and I have a terrible time getting rid of it.  Is there any solution other than power washing?

Beverley,  always a concern with emergency vehicles come into the neighborhood.  Hasn't happened here in quite a while - thank goodness.

Salons and some types of restaurants opened up state-wide this week.  Hairdresser and I decided we kind of like the smoother style possible with my grown-out hair and she trimmed it that way.  I don't have anywhere to go the rest of this month so it's a good time to experiment.  We'll see how long the set stays in between appointments.

Also did some errands yesterday. .  Store clerks had masks on.  Not all customers were wearing them, though.  I did - although I feel as if I'm suffocating and can't keep from pulling it a little ways off my nose once in a while to get what I think is a better breath.
There were wipes by all the cart pickups so we could sanitize the handles and the cash register counters all had clear shields up.

Some parts of the state were over 100º during the past two days and now the weather gurus are saying we'll be down in the 30's later this week.  Crazy!!!!!

Just finished some desk work.  Off to find something else useful to do....or not.  ;D

Hope it's an enjoyable day for each of you.

Callie -  In honor of Mother's Day,  this afternoon I made both of our Mother's meat loaf!  Your recipe has the exact same ingredients as my Mom's, so must have been popular during the 1930's and 40's?  I prefer the crackers, but didn't have any, so I used oatmeal. I haven't made it in many years,  so I hope it turns out as I remember it?  I'll let you know!

I envy you your haircut!  Mine is a mess - long and stringy looking.  I've tried the curling iron, rollers, and even attempted pin curls!  If my Beauty Salon doesn't open soon, I'll have to start wearing it in bun at the back of my neck.  :yikes:  I talked to my hairdresser last week, and she said the shop probably won't open until June First!  I can't wait that long, so will have to get the scissors out and give it a go myself.  It couldn't look any worse than it does now.

No businesses of any kind are open here in this county.  Other counties in the state have started opening, but we have the highest number of c-virus cases in Northern Cal, so it's best to wait.  Los Angeles county and a couple of others in the Southern Cal are still locked down also.

Beverly

Marilyne - Since all three of us (Callie, you and I) have the same recipe, I'm wondering if it was on some package label in the 1930s. It's still the best meat loaf I've ever had. I like to use packaged Italian flavored bread crumbs in it. I can sympathize with your hair problems.

Callie - I've talked to a few of my neighbors today and it appears it happened suddenly.  Hard on his family but an easy way to go. (I don't want to sound morbid, but it's how I think most of us would choose.)

I haven't been to the store in many weeks, but Chape said they have someone at the entrance dis-infecting the cart handles as you walk in. They also have the Plexiglas shields. Never thought I'd say this, but I can't wait to go grocery shopping again!  :)

I've had Windows 10 since I got my new computer over a year ago. I've never liked Win10 but Edge seems to be working out fine. I do hope something can be done for the Apple users.

I don't know if my hair salon has opened yet but I'm going to put up with it for awhile longer. It hasn't been this straight since I was in my teens. Using the curling iron helps a little.  Fortunately I don't get out in public much.  ;)

How interesting that 3 of us from across the country make meat loaf in the same way.  I agree that the recipe may have come from the 1930's.  Mother never wrote it down but she/Daddy married in 1933.  Although she was already a good cook, she liked to try new things.
Here's one I found when I searched for Quaker Oats Meat Loaf.  Sounds as if it could be it:

https://www.thedailymeal.com/recipes/quaker-oats-prize-winning-meatloaf-recipe

Edit: checked to see if the link worked, read more carefully and see that this recipe was developed in the 1950's. Itcould have been adapted from an earlier one so I'm still guessing it originated in the 1930's.

I don't eat oatmeal for breakfast any more but usually keep a box on hand for this and, sometimes, for cookies. Have forgotten to put it on the list while son has been getting the groceries so tried using cracker crumbs last time. They're better than bread crumbs but not as good as the oatmeal.

Don't mind going into the smaller stores (like CVS, Walgreen's and Braum's - a local dairy store) now but haven't yet ventured into the big grocery stores.
I'm not about to get up and go for the Senior Shopping Time at 6:00 a.m.  Would have to get up by 5:00 and it would take me longer than an hour to figure out why my feet were on the floor and what I was supposed to do about it.  :D

Beverly

Callie - I remember Braums......Good ice cream but wonderful muffins! (Just don't look at the fat calories on the package  :)  )

CallieOK

Braum's muffins have fat and calories??  :o  ;D

Marilyne

Callie and Beverly - I just looked up meatloaf, on my mother's old original, Better Homes and Gardens, cook book.   The recipe there for Everyday Meatloaf, is totally different from the one we all remember.   It requires bread crumbs, a cup of milk, two eggs, and no mention of tomato sauce.  It must be very "bready" meatloaf, to soak up all that milk!

Beverly, I think you guessed correctly, that it was most likely a recipe on the Quaker Oats container, or maybe Nabisco crackers?  My Mom was not a creative cook, and most of our favorite family meals were from recipes she saw on a box or can. She also cut them out of magazines like Good Housekeeping, or BH&G.   Many good ones were from ads for a specific product like, Kraft Mayonnaise, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, etc.

Anyway, the meatloaf turned out great, and we enjoyed it.
Interesting how being locked down at home, has caused many of us to start cooking again.

What is that meatloaf recipe you all are commenting about? Most of the recipes wife & I have run into turn out "mushy".  We haven't run into one we all like  :(
