Good morning everyone..

Woke to a winter wonderland out there and a nice sunny day. Laundry will soon be blowing on the line.

We need to take the garbage to the dump later on. We can't take our lawn rakings as there is a no burn ban in place.

Should bake bread as we are down to the last loaf..plus I need to pick chicken apart for the dogs food.  Wonder what it would be like if we didn't have all these things to do??? I can also sew too:)

Jenny ,good morning.. can't remember if I had sweet dreams or not but had two bed partners that when they dream their feet go like they are running..

Jane, yes it is a Mom and Pop place and thank goodness one can order half portions. I ordered a salad one time and there was enough for 4 meals!!! Now I just order a side salad which is still huge.

Rosemary, taters are at all Tims, I will see if I can find out the spice on them for you. Right now there is only drive through but when it opens up I will ask the girls.

Gloria, did you get this snow?? One has to admit when looking out at it ,it is so pretty gracing the trees....soon the sun will melt it away.

Better get the laundry on the line.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Your snow is beautiful, Amy, a long way from what goes on here. BUT, it did get pretty chilly last night. I had turned off the furnace so inside the house got down to 62. Tom & Callie spent the night out and rushed inside when I got up, each looking for a furnace vent to sit on. Gave up & turned the furnace back on for them. They aren't asking to go back out after breakfast!

Wishing all a good week end and Happy Mother's Day to all MOTHERS!

The outside thermometer said it was 42 here when I got up so it is a chilly, windy morning here, too.  But, the sun is shining brightly and that helps.

Nothing planned today but I might try to make up some pie crust. I am terrible at it but I keep trying.   Of course, I probably could easily find something else to do.  ;)

Make it a good day, everyone.

Good morning everyone, weather guessers were wrong again. We did get r ain late yester day but no snow and already the walkways are dry and it is quite windy and 34 but feels like 25. Not a day to go out. I have the heat turned up again. #1 son called late yester day after noon and said he was bringing me supper. Hi ad ordered for takeout from a place we had eaten at before for Mothers Day. I got half a chicken, French Fries, pasta and a salad and a couple of biscuits.  I still hsve a lot of the chicken and never touched the pasta or the salad. Enough for 2 more meals for me and my small apetite.

PHYLLIS  I liked planting flowers and also my vegetable garden. Gave me a good excuse to get out of the house and still be doing something.

AMY  I hd a feeling it would get cold here now aftter the few spring days we had. We had nicer days in mid winter than we have today.

JANE  looks like you had the same forecasrt we had. We did not get any snow but it  is cold. I will not be going outside today. Glad the restrictions are over but don't push it too much to begin using the arm.

SHIRLEY  a few weeks ago Cox went out here, TV, internet and phone, too. I do have to get a new cell phone.

ROSEMARY  I have not been away from my home since New Year's day and not I just as soon stay here until til virus goes away.  I have heard so many things on the news about how long it will last and some of it scares me. This town in no where near the ocean. I live in the state of Rhode Island and it is the smallest state in the USA.  This town is as far fron the shore as can be had here. Wish I did look like Angela Lansbury (Jessica). She is nice and tall and I am now under  5 feet  tall, shrinking in old age.

JENNY  you were missed while you were cut out from here. This is really the only place I go every day.
My CNA  is more like a friend as we have a lot of fun together. She has a wonderful sense of humor. The aoole crisp turned out good like it always does. Added some frozen cranberries to it and made it even better. Even where this building I live in was once nothing but a low hill full of trees. More people in this town and one market that I will  never go into because it is dirty and produce is half rotten. I thought it was D that we get from the sun.

JANE  MY HAIR IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE PHYLLIS DILLARS oops that darn caps lock. When I get up in the morning my hair is stading out from my hear in all directions.

AMY  we did not get any snow, it started raining about 4  yesterday and it is dry now and cloudy and windy.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Rosemary

Hello everyone, from a wet and chilly Scotland.

The weather has really gone off now here too - I went out for my walk at lunchtime to avoid the rain that the BBC had forecast for 3pm - and needless to say it started to pour before 2pm and I was soaked. It was still nice to see the rain though.

My husband has chosen today to paint all the inside wood of the windows (he's already done all the outsides) so we have had practically every window open all day and I am freezing. I just hope we can close them before bedtime. Yesterday he took the blinds down in our bedroom, and although he had reinstated the curtains by the time we went to bed, he had not put the blinds back up. I knew the early morning light (we have very long hours of daylight up here in summer, and very long dark nights in winter) would wake me up, so i decided to sleep in the back bedroom where he had not been able to get the blinds of the fittings for some reason. He said he would stay in the main room  as 'nothing wakes me up' - but when I got up this morning he said the sunlight had in fact woken him up at 4.30am!  Those blinds are still not back up so I may be spending another night in the other room (where I slept very well..)

The forecast for tonight is terrible - heavy rain and strong winds, much lower temperatures. We brought my new mini greenhouse in from the balcony to the sitting room, where it is standing on a doormat, and I rescued the other bedding plants that I had not yet got into the ground - they had been waiting on the garden table but I have 'locked them down' :) in the greenhouse for tonight. Every year I am daft enough to think a few sunny warm days mean summer - after all the years I have lived up here I really should know better.

Wow Gloria, your supper delivery sounds great!  I do think American restaurants serve much larger portions than we are used to here, though ours are getting bigger. My mother eats like a bird these days, though thank God she is fit and healthy at 92. It seems to me that older people seem to go one way or the other - they eat much less or they never stop eating. My late mother-in-law was obsessed with food until the few weeks before she died, she was very overweight, which did not help her mobility problems, but I suppose food had become one of her only interests in life, as she could no longer see well enough to read or to paint.

I had some good news from my younger daughter Madeleine today, as she had received her end of year results for her art course, and managed to get an A in both the dissertation and the practical art. i was so pleased for her, especially as they all had to adapt their ideas at the last minute so that whatever they did could be sent to their tutors electronically. Madeleine had planned to do most of her work in ceramics and print making this term, and she ended up having to do other things that could be done at home - though I am sure the tutors have been very understanding, it is a great department at Dundee. Thank goodness M still has one more year to go, as the poor students who graduate this year have not been able to hold their end of year show or anything.

I am really enjoying the book I picked up last night, Class by Jenny Colgan. It is just the sort of escapism I needed!

Phyllis, is pie crust the same as pastry?  If so, I am HOPELESS at it. I do a lot of baking and can turn out a decent cake or scone, but pastry is something that has eluded me for years. My elder daughter Anna has no trouble with it but doesn't seem to be able to work out what I am doing wrong/ I have shed bitter tears over dough that just falls to pieces when I try to roll it out. The last time this happened I was so desperate that I just flung all the bits of dough into the food processor and turned it on - and hey presto, out came perfect pastry that was easy to roll. I did think that, as we are always told to handle pastry as little as possible, not re-roll it, etc it might be really tough and horrible, but by some miracle it was fine. If I have to make it again I will just put the ingredients straight into the processor and not even try doing it by hand. Sometimes I simply buy Jus-Rol, I used to feel guilty as that is something my mother would never have done, but now I think, what the hell, I'm not going to waste my time crying over pastry.

Amy - thanks, I will look forward to hearing the secret of those taters!

I am going to have to stop now as I have been roasting a chicken and it is ready.

I hope everyone is having or has had a good day (it is already 8.30pm here).

Best wishes, Rosemary

Carol

Rosemary:  I would love your scone.

Jenny:  We had most of the family here, they arrived this morning and we all sat outdoors spaced appropriately  Great visit and we met a new girlfriend to one of the grands.  We wore our masks too.

We and the family and friends follow all the rules but sad to hear that too many are mucking up state orders by doing their own thing.

Good Morning Everyfriend and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS!

I realized on my way to bed last night, that I hadn't checked in for most of the day or out for the night but I see you've all been busy.

Speaking of pie crust....all my life I've said that if it didn't matter and no one else would be eating it, I made great pie crust but if I had to take it somewhere or people were coming to my house to eat it it was terrible.  My older sister got my grandfather, the baker's, touch.  Hers is "never-fail" good!  I've resorted to buying it, too and I don't apologize for doing so.  At least it's edible!

Rosemary, I have to tell you a story about my sister and I making pies when we were still in high school.  I was trying to roll mine and it kept breaking.  My father (who was also a good cook) came into the kitchen and commented that it looked like I had a problem.  I said, "I'm trying to roll this pie crust but it keeps breaking."  My father said, "Looks like it might be too short."  (meaning too much shortening in it).  I answered, "It is!  But I don't know how to make it longer!"  He laughed so hard he shook!  Then he told me what I needed to do and it worked!  But I still have lots of problems with pie crust (or pastry as you call it)

Christy came to do some gardening yesterday but we both decided that it was too cold so we did some heavy visiting and then she went to the WM Garden Center to get some stuff we needed and then to spend some quality time with Frankie (her daughter).  They will both be back today to weed and plant.  So I don't know if I'll get back in before bedtime.

CAROL, sounds like you had a nice family visit and got to meet a new "friend".  How nice!

I guess I better post this before the boinger goes off and announces breakfast and the start of activities around here.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone...

Chilly here....no new snow but still chilly. Had a phone call to wish happy Mother's day before my first cup of tea!. Yesterday the wind blew the laundry straight out and it dried in no time despite snowing at times. Got a lot of little jobs done yesterday ,ones that I had kept putting off...you know the tomorrow job. :)
Today is a day of rest..would like to just play in the sewing room.
My Mom taught me to make pastry...hers was always perfect.....don't remember any fails and she ,thankfully taught me how to do the same. Our problem now is the pie is too big for us to eat it up so friends help out.My pumpkin recipe (Mom's) makes two pies so again thankfully the neighbour helps out.

Jane have fun gardening today with Cristy and Frankie..

Mycheal, thank you. Your Mom did an amazing job at raising a fine gentleman  like you.

Better get ready to go out...pup is already wearing his collar to go.

Enjoy your day everyone..Happy Mother's Day.  Stay safe

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

My mother was wonderful at making pie crust (pastry) but it just didn't come down to me in the genes.  I came across a site yesterday selling kitchen towels and one of them had the saying on it, "OMG! My mother was right about everything!"  It made me laugh really hard.  Is there anyone of us who as teenagers would have ever believed that we would come to realize that?

Nice card, Gloria.  Thank you.  And try to stay warm.  Just think...in a few weeks we will be wishing for cooler weather again.   ::)

Well done to your daughter, Rosemary.  It is hard for the young people to deal with this upside-down world that we are all facing now.  Is Madeline at the College of Art at the Univ. of Dundee?

Nice to see you here, mycheal.  That doesn't happen often enough.

Take care, All.

Phyllis, I wished for cooler weather & GOT IT! Had to turn the furnace back on. Everything leafed out, amazing how green it got so fast, but windy this morning. Need to trim my hair & shower, was too tired last night to trust myself with the razor blade to trim hair. These trims can turn into a sheering sometimes.  :o

My internet is still off & on so no fun. Will do something Monday! Lots of "do somethings" for next week. Gloria, couldn't get the card to come in... darn Cox! Will try again later. I have to do that with a post, save it on WordPad until I catch Cox at the right moment (or mood)!

Callie cat is laying in front of the "toe warmer-vent" by the sink & I am at least 30' away & her snoring is so loud I'm surprised she can sleep with all that noise!

Amy

Gloria, thank you for the lovely card......many ways to say Mom.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Good morning everyone, wow did I sleep great. Almost 9 hours.Making up for not sleeping at all Friday night. 38 now and still too windy even with all the sunshine for me to go outside again.

ROSEMARY  overweight I am not. At my highest I was 150 pounds but now holding at 80. My doctor worries but I feel OK and this was what I weighed untill after I had my 3 babies and stayed about 110 pounds. I eat little now and only because I know I have to. Put something sweet and unhealthy in front of me and I can eat that. Great for your daughter M. I have heard here that some students in colleges are sueing for money back because they cannot enjoy campas life. I no longer make piecrust, cannot roll it out, and I always preferred making pies instead of cakes.

CAROL  sad how some think they do not have to follow rules. Our governor let some places open Saturday but if the rules aren't followed she will close them again. Restaurants can serve if they have outside seating or it is still takeout.

JANE  like you I buy the piecrust if I want a pie but not flaky like home made. My Mom used lard in her dough, first time I made a pie with no recipe except on a bot tle of Mazzola oil and it came out great that is how I always made them. My daughter does not make pies or much desserts. Both my DILs make theirs with shortning. I did come back in late yesterday and posted my JL Mothers day greeting not knowing how I would be this morning, looks like no one saw it.

AMY  I never had a problem with too much pie, my family loved them and now when I do get one made I share with a few of my neighbors.

PHYLLIS  thanks. Yes our Moms were smarter than we thought they were when we were teens and thought we knew it all. Glad you like the JL card. I thought it fit in here with people from all over posting.

SHIRLEY  i HAVE HAD  trouble with my email being very slow since Cox updated andd we got a new box. Then of course Google had to update too and made email worse. I was so used to things the way they were that now I don't enjoy my PC as much anymore. Will not ask my grandson to come and check it out. He has been working from home a few years already and now his wife is, too. My son and DIL are no longer baby sitting my great grandson either. He loves attention and with his parents working at home he keeps bothering them.

AMY  thanks, glad you like the JL greeting.

Have a great day and stay safe.

Oh dear, I just wrote and (I thought) posted my message for today - and hey presto, it has totally disappeared.

Haven't got time to write it all again (you may well be relieved to know...)

Today we have sunshine and snow, one after the other. I am glad I brought my mini greenhouse inside, and that I brought my unplanted bedding plants in with it. My husband is still insisting on painting the insides of all the window frames though, so we have open windows to 'enjoy'....think I will go for a walk soon!

Our First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has just announced that our lockdown will continue, though we can now go out for exercise more than once a day. Some people are complaining, but I think she is right - we need to try to get rid of this thing, if we go back to everything too soon it will just surge again.

Our Mothering Sunday in the UK is in March, I always tell my children not to waste their money on all the nonsense in the shops - a card or a call is much more valuable to me.

Phyllis - yes, Madeleine is at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, and it has been part of the University of Dundee for some time now. She started off at Goldsmiths in London, which is quite prestigious, but she was very unahppy there, and the teaching was almost non-existent. She changed to Dundee and her experience there has been so different - excellent tuition, lots of support, and she has also found it a lot easier to make friends.

I loved all the stories about making pastry - and I know, if I make a cake for home it usually turns out well, but if it is for a gift or a bake sale it's more often a disaster.

Going to get my walk done now - hope everyone has a good day (and I hope this message does actually work...)

Rosemary

I am sad to see that I must not have posted my quick Mother's Day greeting to you all early this morning.  It was done and I thought sure I posted it....I am sorry😢

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to EVERYFRIEND.......I hope you all enjoyed your day.  I spoke/FaceTimed with 3 of my son's and their families and to my Dad and Diane?  Dr. Dave and Family came over and we sat on the patio social distanced from one another.....this is the first time Michele or the kids have been out of their home and away by car in over two months, other tha; Michele going for chemo. They all said how strange it felt.  It was WONDERFUL🥰🥰🥰🥰

CAROL, your family visit sounded delightful.....nice to meet the girlfriend of one of the grandsons.  Did you happen to see on the News tonight about the coffee shop in Castle Rock that opened up today in spite of the orders?  It was PACKED like sardines in the place, sitting at tables and standing around with nary a face mask in sight! It made me sick and then MAD as heck....that is why I am so afraid of them opening up all of the eating establishments!

GLORIA, I thank you for your wonderful Jacquielawson card.  They are always very appreciated by me.

JANE, how nice you got to visit with Christy and Frankie and that they were able to plant in your garden.

Telephone call so I best post this NOW.

Have a wonderful evening.

Good morning everyone, as usual I woke in the middle of the night again. Always happend after I  night when I got my 8 hours sleep. Oh well, gives me time to slowly wake  up, enjoy my coffee and breakfast and not rush before Yvette gets here.

ROSEMARY  you are not the first one whose post went into cyber space and disappeared. I think it has happened to everyone. They are sta rting slowly to open things here and I hope it is safe to do it. In the hospitals they say the new cases are going down from this darn virus.

JOY  since I payed for membership in JL I might as well use my money's worth. I do love the greetings she and her staff create.

LLOYD  glad you enjoyed Mothers day aand I sure hope Nancy did. It was a day for her and all Moms.

JANE  sorry the gremlins stole your post.

MICHAEL  will have to save your latest hint and try to remember to use it next time I loe a post. Thank you.

JENNY  glad Michele was able to get ay from the house for other than a medical procedure. I have not been any place since New Year's day. As long as I can get outside for fresh air and some walking at times I am OK. If I had to stay in here and not get out at all I would flip my wig.

AMY  beat you today.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Rain and or snow could be in the forecast today. Need to get back into the sewing area and tidy up.....then back to sewing.

Not wanting to stop yesterday I put two tv dinners in for supper. Now I remember why I haven't bought them in 10 -15 years..guess we are just spoiled.

Good morning.  Nice sun shining in my windows this morning even though it is a little chilly at the beginning of the day.

I had a good long chat with my son and dil in Virginia yesterday.  We had so much to talk about.   Unfortunately, after that the vertigo decided to come back and I spent the rest of the day in bed.  It is better this morning and I'm hoping it will stay away today.

Nothing planned for today except for laundry and regular household chores.  If the "dizzies" stay away I'll fix the steak dinner that I planned for yesterday.  I wouldn't want that to go to waste.

Take care, All, and MAKE it a good day.

Rosemary

Good afternoon everyone

Phyllis, I do hope your vertigo has gone. Last year there was some kind of virus (not THAT virus...) going around here that made one very dizzy - I had it and it was so frightening, as at the time I didn't realise that anyone else had it, so I really started to think I was having a stroke or something. I remember walking through a shopping centre and feeling that i needed to hold on to the handrail to stop myself falling over. It would go away for a few days then come back again; eventually it did stop. I then discovered that quite a few of my friends (no-one I had actually been in contact with) had had it too, some much worse than me. My daughter's work colleague had had to stay in bed. Another friend had been worried, like me, that she had something really serious. It certainly gave me a lot more sympathy for people who have chronic vertigo. I do hope you are feeling better.

I'm glad to say my husband has at last stopped his window painting for a while - yesterday, with the snow and sleet outside and all the windows wide open, it was like the Arctic in the house. Today it is still cold but sunnier, I have only been up to the Co-Op and post office so far, will have a proper walk later.

I finished the book I was reading, Class, the one set in a boarding school in Cornwall, I really enjoyed it. Now I must move on to one of the books sent to me by the publisher. My son also sent me a book (we have been choosing books for one another), it is called Lion and seems to be a true story about a poor Indian boy who got lost on a train, ended up living on the streets of Calcutta, then eventually lived in Tasmania as an upper-middle class Australian. Books like this are really much more my son's kind of thing than mine, but we are trying to increase one another's reading experiences!

Last night I watched the next episode of The Great British Sewing Bee - this week it was children's clothes, and they had to make little smocked dresses of the kind Princess Charlotte wears. I used to have them for my daughters (not that I made them, there was a company called Heskia that specialised in them, they were so gorgeous). They also had to make a food item out of a sleeping bag - the winner of that round made a bunch of grapes, which was very impressive. It's a good fun show and takes your mind off the world for a while.

The UK Prime Minister made a speech last night about partially lifting the lockdown. The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish governments have chosen to stay with the stricter measures for now, and I myself am happy about this. I have a lot of faith in our Scottish First Minister, and it would be awful to see a resurgence of this bug. However, I do appreciate that many people are suffering huge financial issues because their businesses or jobs are affected. So anyway, for now we here in Scotland carry on in lockdown, but we are now permitted to go out for exercise as frequently as we wish, which should be a help to people cooped up in small flats with children. For me, in this weather one walk is enough - yesterday I experienced sunshine, sleet, hail and snow in the course of my single 2 hour walk through the countryside.

Just noticed it is already past 4pm - where did those hours go? (Actually a good part of them went in phone calls to the agent who manages my mother's old flat for her, as her tenant had locked himself out and wanted to get the locks changed - luckily the agent is good and told him he was not to do that unless there were no spare keys anywhere, and we discovered that an old friend of Mum's living near the flat still had some.  This took at least 6 calls!)

Have a good day everyone,

Rosemary

OK, I'm going to try this again and hopefully, it won't go off into space and leave me speechless.

yesterday, Christy worked all morning and half of the afternoon in my yard.  Frankie joined her when she got home from work.  We have two very large bags of weeds and another bucke sitting beside the bags.  There is fresh mulch on most of it and she got some things ready for the next time when her husband is coming to do some of the extras.  She's also getting more mulch and maybe will get it down today before the rains come.  I have tomato plants and pepper plants!  Also some very nice flowers.  And my dogwood trees are in leaf and the flowers are budding.  Christy does this yard work for a combination Bday/Mothers Day present for me and I love it!  It's easy to see that she enjoys gardening and she knows what she's doing.  She inherited that from her farmer Grandfather.  Also, her husband is retired from supervising parks and recreation area for whatever county in Maryland Frederick is in.

My local son will be by to pick up the bags of weeds and get rid of them for us.  The local place isn't open yet but he knows someone who knows a place he can take them.

I cleaned out the fridge this morning and stripped my bed.  By the time they finish the floor in my bedroom, I'll have the fresh bedding all ready to go back on the bed.  And I have a bag of "chicken feed" ready for Christy to take home with her.  They also raise chickens and she frequently brings me eggs.  So I save whatever the chickens will eat until she comes up and then they get it.  And that's pretty much anything that people don't want any more.

I guess I'll go over and try to post this.  If I missed commenting on anyones activities, I'll try to add that when I post this.  I'm typing it off line and I'm going to try to copy and paste.

Good Morning my friends.  I already know one thing that I forgot from my lost post but first I want to tell Oldiesman that I did try what he said but I must be too dumb.  Nothing showed up after "show drafts".  Or if it did, I didn't see it.

Rosemary, what I forgot was that I wanted to tell you how much I'm enjoying the Scottish info.  I have a Scottish background and it's always been my dream to visit Scotland and see all the places I've read about.  I have a Grandson-in-law who got his Master's Degree from Edinboro University and my granddaughter had the pleasure of visiting him while he was there.  I was so envious.

My sister is heavy into geneology and she traced our Donalson ancestors all the way back to the Lords of the Isles and Clan Donald.  We have MacDonalds and Donaldsons in our ancestry also.  This is why I dream of visiting Scotland and why I enjoy your posts so much.

I wish everyone a lovely day!

It is too quiet here.  We really miss seeing family and I do have to give thanks for our Saturday outdoor with space in between meeting.  I did get to pet the new very sweet dog grandson's friend brought along.  They drove two hours just to sit outdoors with us.  We are overwhelmed with gratitude.  All the flowers are taken care of and they stayed outside overnight since there was no frost.

Gloria:  Many thanks for the beautiful card you posted.  Always so perfect.

Jenny:  I am so glad to read Michele shared the day with you two.  Yes, I saw the herd of people charging into a store - I don't believe we can get rid of this plague until everyone cooperates.

Phyllis:  Sorry about your vertigo. I hope you find something to relieve those issues.

It seems super quiet today after all the visiting - it is always a little sad when everyone leaves.  We still meet once a week over the internet and that is a big help for us.  This too shall pass.
