well I am in to say good night and sweet dreams everyone, Hope to see you all tomorrow.

Shirley

Here to say "Good Night" to all. Got the RV started & to Walmart & new battery put in. All went well, those puppies do cost a bunch & when spending that much may as well add a little to it & get the best. Should last as long as I keep it. Got it home & put jacks down & awning out to dry the under side, can't figure why it is getting wet so hope to do that later this week. Will pick up my new lens tomorrow & hope they fit better, if they do I will get another pair made with a dark tint for sun. Still have to have cataract surgery later in the fall, but not with that hard headed doctor before! Scared me and I'm fearless! I'll bake a batch of brownies to take the girls that were so nice last time I was in.

Had lots of huge fish come tonight, they really do start splashing the water before I toss bread in, so it is the whistle that they hear & come to. The weeds are growing so fast with the rain, will have to take the "weed whip" down again soon. Have some trees, maple & nice little cottonwood that are the right size to transplant. Not sure I need any more in the yard, got to get the sprinkler system fixed, couple of the heads have sand in them but one along the driveway was run over by vehicle... the person typing is probably guilty, but hard to see with ice on the edge, honestly! I really don't like yard work but don't want to pay someone for what I can do. I did trim around the little trees in their defense, the mowers get a little rushed when trimming.

Callie, glad to hear the surgery went okay. Had a call from my brother-in-law while ago, he just heard from his doctor that removed cancer inside his ear recently, that he goes back in day after tomorrow for more surgery and skin graft this time. He is resigned to always having more, the area was contaminated all through the years and he also had radiation on his face as a teen. Sadly the southern diet of so much grease brought on much of his problems. Lots of things we did not know about caused problems later in life. Best food I ever tasted but after a week we always came home with "zits" on the face! How I would love to taste her melt in the mouth biscuits again!  She churned fresh butter all the time so picture a pat of butter melting as the whole bite melts in your mouth (honestly, like cotton candy). I brought home same flour & everything but never came out like hers. Yum...

Better get to bed, couldn't go to sleep last night, lack of coffee, what can I say?  Do have to get things moving. AC man comes the 22nd so need to clear a path through the ironing room in the basement, I start sorting what to get rid of & side tracked, mixed stuff up & have to start all over. I think I put an inch around the middle with doing "NOthING but eating" (you are right, Jane, even just sitting is still sitting & not "nothing".)  I was thinking sleep at 8:00 pm and here it is, 10:40 & I am still up. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Oops, you snuck in, Jane & Lloyd. Close your eyes, have nice dreams, no running or searching for things in your sleep.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, here I am at 2am. Wonder how many naps I will get today. Yesterday I laid on the couch at 9:30 and woke just before my phone rang at noon and Yvette was here. At 2 when she left I was on the couch again and woke at 4:30. Had time to get ready for my daily chat with my daughter. At 8 last night was in bed, could not keep my eyes open.

LLOYD  if I had a mouse in here I would have a fit. Hate those critters but still better than a big rat. The purple Iris here is blooming now but still many waiting to bloom in different colors.

AMY  still a couple of weeks here before my sons start tilling their gardens.

JANE  if my sense of humor goes away I hope it isn't till I take my last breath. In this place there are only a couple that one can joke with and get some laughs. Most are too serious, don't know if it is the age or what but darn if I will be that serious.
Your post last evening made me think of an old song. "busy doing nothing, trying to find lots of things not to do." I don't remember much more of it.

AMY  Don't hear many birds here, maby some crows at times.

ROSEMARY  I seent you a PM, hope it is helpful for you. I know here doctors cancelled all visits and will do phone talks if needed. My doctor, dentist and eye doctor cancelled all appointments. Th car service I use has cancelled all rides, too. I can no longer drive so have no car.

PHYLLIS  for the last 2 days we had no sun but it has been too warm and humid. I wish I could have my AC in alr eady but rules are not till mid June-managers rule. Heck we pay our own electricity not those who own the building. I have had 2 fans going full time. Supposed to be cooler tomorrow and some sunshine. I gaveup trying to make biscuits from scratch years ago. Never came out light and fluffy like my Mom's did. My daug ht er makes them like the grandmother she is named for, my Mom.

CALLIE  glad your DIL is hoe and doing good. Must have been a long tiring day for you son to stay at the hospital. What kind of dump cake did you make. First time I had a chocolate one I was at a  brother's home and his wife made it while I watched and was surprise at how it tur ned out. So many different dump cakes to make.

JANE  do you have a bread machine or make it the old way with all the kneading?

SHIRLEY  my Mom seldom fried anything, being a Yankee she made many boiled dinners, like at St Pat's day and baked a lot. In the winter with the big iron stove on for heat the oven was always warm/hot.

I think the couch calling me already. Maybe I can get a couple of hours more of the missing sleep.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept pretty well the last half of the night.  The first part was full of weird dreams...the kind that wake you up and keep you moving but you can't remember in the morning.

Mickie's been out and I pulled a few weeds while I waited for her to take care of business and now we're waiting for the boinger but I have to get out there and make dog food before I can feed her when it's time.

So I wish you all a lovely day!

Amy

Good morning everyone.
Yesterday was a fun filled day and a tiring one also. Managed to get both trugs planted and two of the flower beds planted with geraniums. Laundry blew out on the line  while I was playing in the dirt. :)  Kyle has a screen that he used when doing cement to screen the lumps out of the sand so I used that for the bags of lumpy soil. Soil felt like velvet when I planted the seeds and some plants.

Taking Kyle to pick up more material for another trug this morning and I am going to till up the rest of the garden. Not sure if it will get planted with the vine crops or not.

Better move it..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Tropical Storm Arthur is off the N.C. coast but heading out to sea.  However, it is giving us some rain today so it is gloomy.  David will have to dodge the rain drops to pick up the groceries later on toward noon.

Not sure what I will find to do other than household laundry.  I'm thinking about cooking something but not sure what I am in the mood to make or to eat.

Glad you found some yeast, Jane.

Take care, All.

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYFRIEND 🦋

It is another hot one in the Mile High City again today, so Bob has cleaned and turned on our A/C.  It does feel nice in here.

I have finished making a macaroni salad for our dinner.  The food truck is to be here tonight and we are just buy a bit of their sliced brisket and pork, rather than the sandwich with tater tots....of which I do not care much for!

It was so beautiful out on the deck this morning......my little fountain is up and running and I just love to sit out there and listen to it and watch the birds and wildlife around me.  We have a nice Sonos Speaker thatBob set up for me and played some beautiful music.....I was a happy girl🥰

AMY, so pleased to read that Kyle is making more trugs....I would happily buy one or two from him if it were possible.  Your burn is probably a combo of sun and wind....yes, ya gotta keep that sunscreen on😘

PHYLLIS, happy the tropical storm is headed out to sea....I hope you only get a good rain from it and no damage.

GLORIA, good for you for listening to your body....when you need sleep you just have to go with it.....sure glad your old bag of a manager doesn't control our A/C, or heat for that matter....when you need one or the other you should be able to have it!

SHIRLEY, glad you got the new battery installed on the motor home....little by little you will be ready to ROLL when the time comes.  If we can just get some rain around here maybe they w8ll lift the fire pit restrictions!  Camping isn't camping without a nice camp fire!

Thank you for all the nice comments about my Jonah Boy.  He is growing so quickly and I never thought he could get any cuter but by golly he seems to.

CALLIE, happy the DIL is home and doing well after the back surgery.  Thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Good afternoon everyone.Peter good to see you also. sad to here you are having a bad time an wish could have cought you when you were here this A M. I can relate to the not feeling good any more. Hard for me to get my breath any more. I do not rest well most time now days even with my bypapt machine I sleep restless and it leaks and causes me to have a dry mouth. good Night and sweet dreams everyone.

Shirley

I thought I left a post earlier today but guess I forgot to hit the "POST" button. :-[

Peter, good to see you, been quite a while. Hope whatever the problem was is over with!!!  It seems something new goes wrong with "old bodies" about as often as with the cars or RVs. Too bad we can't roll in a new body.... jack up the eyebrows & "wa-la", no dents or aches & pains!

My new glasses got in so I baked a batch of brownies, stuffed them full of walnuts and took them to the office. The "girls" welcomed them (still warm) and every single person in the offices had a mouth full as I left. Hope the new glasses do the trick, it is not so much a problem with the cataracts as it is getting the right fit on glasses. I am amazed how well I can see out of each eye, but still a strain using both eyes. Enough about that, just a bump in the road.

Gloria, I've given up trying to get a full night sleep, lucky to get 4 or 5 hours before cats wake me up either wanting in or out (or I wake up looking for them.) Like when raising kids, when they are out you sleep with one eye open. So I try to find time to sleep either right after breakfast or later in the afternoon.

The wisteria blooms are getting bigger, another couple days & I will drive across/around to the other side of the river so see if it shows & take pictures if it does. Supposed to start raining Thursday & looks like days of it, so want to get photos before they fade away. I really do have to get down to weed whip those weeds again, goodness how they have grown! Had a whole crowd of fish tonight, and one goose flew over and came on up the bank for a hand out. Those fish put up a good fight for the bread! Might have to get out the bug spray, think the sand fleas are up & about. Other years I spray the boots I wear down & seems to keep them away, guess time to put the spray bottle by the boots!

The mocking bird is back on my side of the street, sings it's little heart out, every song it ever heard. Might even be making some up or heard new ones when down south! Love listning it go through the whole repertoire.

The AC man is to come the 22nd, so far haven't needed to turn on. The dark tinted storm windows do their job keeping the house cool or warm. I've been trying to sort stuff in the basement to get rid of but every time I make headways something else comes up & don't get the job done. A must do now!  Also need to defrost the freezer down there & that is a major job, that room has parquet flooring & has gotten water on the floor 3 times in the 31 years we lived here. First 2 times we caught fast enough to dry the wood before it swelled up. Last time it was a slow leak of the copper pipe that comes into the house & some of the squares wouldn't fit back in so all needs to be taken out & replaced with other flooring. 2 of the finished rooms down there have carpet, one is tile & this other room was the original owner's dance floor. Had the mood or dimmer lights. That couple had no kids & entertained a lot, so house basically used for entertaining, everything catered so cooking not important nor cleaning. Guess their cleaning crew brought their own equipment because not a space for vacuums, etc. We bought because it has great access to the bypass around the city & shortens the run to Kansas City, my husband was still working & running to KC once a week. Anyway, I've settled in here & hope to stay until I die, or at least, until the cats die.

I've rambled on again so will shut up. Amy, Cas always was happiest when he had a "project" to work on. One year it was bird feeders for everyone, last one was making golf clubs. He loved to work with wood. I do enjoy your world and activities.

Shut up, Shirley.... you know what??? I really would not enjoy the computer if not for y'all... I would use for shopping or looking things up, but do not enjoy Facebook with family nearly as much as I thought I would the first few days. Strange.....  Sweet dreams, time for bed!

Amy

Good morning everyone..
Yesterday was a productive day..picked up material for a trug and it is now finished. Did some sewing then worked outside ,tilled the garden again and can finish planting it today.. Friends dropped by to return some sealers ,plus she made cookies   and she brought a container of Wipes which are difficult to find.

Jenny, it is so easy planting when everything is up to a  comfortable level. I am fair and I burn ,peel and burn again..

Shirley, Kyle loves working with wood. I wouldn't dare say lets build a house as he would be right on it! We are over the hill for that now and although we loved working it is time to be kind to our bodies.

Phyllis, glad Arthur is headed out to sea.you sure don't need a visit from him. Not sure what we will have to supper tonight but it had better be better than last night. I ws too pooped to muster up a meal so we just had a ham and cheese omelet.

Better get going..dancing with the tiller is not a nice as the waltz with the snow blower and I am moving slower today.

Enjoy your day everyone ,stay safe.

Rosemary

Good afternoon everyone, I hope all are well?

It is another fine sunny day here in North East Scotland. Yesterday I took a really long walk - 3 hours - and extended my usual route to some woods that I had not previously explored. It was so nice to sit there and call my younger daughter while watching the bees and birds. The 'Ghost Trees' book I am reading does make you look at nature much more closely.

On Monday I felt deadful and was really quite worried that I was getting ill, but by Tuesday i was fine, and I am starting to think it is the result of our weekly/fortnightly trips to the supermarkets. I find it all so stressful that the next day I inevitably feel bad. I know we do need to go there occasionally, as our local shops don't stock a huge range, but I wonder if it is actually worth it - maybe we should just eat what we can buy in the village. Anyway, all fine now.

Gloria - thanks for your message but I think I am being really dim, as I did not see what I was supposed to do to increase the font. Are my messages coming out too small? I will keep trying!

I have now planted out everything I had left, so until the garden centres re-open I can't fill the new tubs or the gaps between the plants in the other ones, but I think our First Minister is talking of letting them open up next week. We managed to rescue the seed feeder from the river and I have washed it out and dried it - now David has hung it over the water again, but more securely. The birds seem to have found it again pretty quickly.

Gloria, that is so unfair about your air conditioning. My mother has some problems with the heat (too much of it) in her sheltered housing, but I think that is down to old pipes rather than the manager, who is very nice. Hardly any residential properties in the UK have air conditioning, and our house in Edinburgh does get far too hot.

Shirley - your house and land sound just wonderful, so much wildlife, and how lovely to have fish that come to be fed. I love wisteria, but the man at the garden centre told me it was unlikely to flourish here as the climate is not warm enough, so I have never tried it.

Please someone tell me what a 'dump cake' is!

Have a good day everyone,

Rosemary

Rosemary, I think what Gloria is trying to show you is. Where you post your message you will see in the boxes above..  an A and then a A with a red line along side....if you click on that it will give you font size.  I am using a 4 in my message. The box beside it with all the little colour squares  if you click on that you can choose a colour to type with. Hope this is understandable..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up since a little after 5:30.  We must have had a short power outage during the night because my electric clock in the bedroom was blinking 12:35 when I woke up this morning.

The temp was down in the low 50s when I got up this morning but will get into the high 60s sometime today.  I can live with that.  I think Winter is gone for now!

Frankie came over yesterday and spent the night again last night.  I think being in her own apartment for the first time makes her a bit lonely for family and here I am just waiting for visitors!  It's a win/win situation!

I've hit a snag where cleaning out is concerned.  I have to wait for places to open to get rid of things.  I have things to give to Mostly Mutts (an animal rescue place), books for the library book sale, and stuff for Goodwill (a resell place).  Until I get rid of them, I can't go any further.  I keep calling and I keep getting messages saying they are not open.

GLORIA, you asked if I was going to be kneading the bread I make.  I have a recipe that is a "no kneading" bread.  I'll do that one first.

I guess I better get moving or I won't get anything done...whatever it is that needs doing.  I hope you all have a lovely day.  Make it your own in every way.  And don't forget to share it!

CallieOK

Good Morning,

It's another lovely day in central Oklahoma - except that the pollen, which looks like tufts of cotton, keeps floating off the trees behind the back fence and covering everything. Worst thing is that it sticks to the air conditioner coils and can cause issues if not hosed off (as I discovered one blazingly hot Sunday last summer).

Rosemary, my "dump cake" is made by "dumping" canned pie filling and cake mix into a baking pan - no beating separate ingrdients required.

Pour one can fruit pie filling into an 8" baking dish (or cake pan)
Combine 1/4 stick melted oleo margarine (or butter) with 1/2 of a boxed cake mix.
Spread over pie filling.
(Optional) Sprinkle with chopped nuts)
Bake at 350ยบ (F) for about 35 minutes - or until topping is browned.
Best if served warm.

Can be made with 2 cans pie filling and the entire cake mix combined with 1/2 stick oleo(butter) in a larger baking dish.

Suggested combinations are:
Cherry pie filling - Yellow cake mix  (good with chopped almonds)
Blueberry pie filling - White cake mix
Apple pie filling - Spice cake mix (good with toasted chopped pecans)
Strawberry pie filling - Strawberry cake mix
(or your own creative combination).

Off to find something useful to do....or not.  ;D

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Shirley

Callie, that is what my son fixes out camping. I gave him a big cast iron Dutch oven that he lines with aluminum foil for easier clean up, & sits on coals with coals on top. Make it often enough he has it down pat. Some of the fathers of Boy Scout gatherings have their own competition, his son got his Eagle award so doesn't go anymore but he keeps his life saving certificate up to date so he can teach that badge at camp. He loves kids at any age, although this is finals at the college level so he is frustrated with some of his students. He has not enjoyed the distance teaching with graduate students.

Janie, I think a lot of us are sitting here with boxes waiting to donate. My daughter says she can't do any more sorting until they open up in St.Louis. When they lived in Seattle they had 3 storage units because the house they rented was much smaller than they owned in KS. When she couldn't find something she didn't have time to go look (packers are notorious for putting things in mis-marked boxes) so when they moved back to MO she insisted they get a house with big enough basement to put every thing in one spot. She retired about a year ago & has spent a lot of that time sorting & donating the excess. I'm not as organized so when I sort, too often I find something I hadn't thought about for years & can't part with...

One of those mornings I am delaying decisions... I need to take the trimmer down to cut back weeds before they get too big, but also need to go to the store for fish bread... and know I will have to take a shower as soon as I finish weeding... solution is I may just have to take 2 showers today! Nearly lunch time so maybe a quick shower & wash hair, to the store & pick up lunch on way home... then down to weed whip & another shower, another nap since this 4 & 5 hour nights are not enough. Boy, forget it all & go back to bed!!! Hope y'all are having a more productive day!

Carol

Rosemary * Lloyd:  Try this:  Where it says Post reply,  click that then go to a capital B - for BOLD then in color, look at the capital A that has a red arrow, click it and move over to the lines of color.  This is the dark blue. You can always change this later.

Our 2nd. son has Shingles.  He is on the third day of what is supposed to be a ten day time.  He has skin on he face and he says it feels like his hair is on fire.  With his job, he had to go to work yesterday but took this morning off.  We brought dinner to him yesterday and also ran to the pharmacy for a skin cream.  Never have had this - but we had Shingle shots and now our other children are having the shots as well.  Most worrisome is the red spot on one eye.

Jenny:  It is so windy - we must be in Kansas?

Shirley:  Our DIL teaches young children & they really miss seeing each other.  So strange for everyone.  I don't like the idea of children in the house alone if both parents are working.

Lloyd:  Jenny and I will send wind your way - we are tired of the wind.  Take care.

Well, I cleaned floors today and made two medical appointments. Don and I cut each other's hair - this has to end soon.

JaneS

Carol, every day I look in the mirror and pray for the beauty salons to open!  When I had my Girl Scout troops we had a mother who used to come to camp and spend the nights as an "extra" with us.  Every morning when she got up she said, "I'm glad there's no mirror here because I just know my hair is ALL ANYHOW"!  I think of her every time I pass a mirror in this house right now.  My hair is certainly "all anyhow", and there's not a thing I can do about it!

This is going to be my good night because I know I'm going to fall asleep early tonight!  I didn't get my nap today because I was waiting for 3 people to return my phone calls and I knew if I closed my eyes, that's when they'd call.  So....

Good Night my friends.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Shirley

Carol, will tell you that when I broke out with shingles (and I did get diagnosed by doctor), only 3 spots on my ribs. I took B1 vitamin simply because it helped with the brown spider bite the year before, along with soaking the spots with warm Epsom salts... would be hard to do on the face & head, but it worked for me. That was more than 30 years ago and every time I get that feeling that they want to break out again (internal pain & "jingling")... I take 100 mg of B-1 (over the counter), and they don't break out. May not work but sure did for me.  My mother was broken out the last 8 years of her life, every time she got nervous or upset. The medicine they gave her at first put her in the hospital & she nearly died. Son, Andy, broke out with them when in CO, he was working on his Masters by mail/computer... so was out there 2+ weeks. First week he went to ER & it was pain, they thought sinus infection (head, face & neck). He didn't get better so week later went back in, by then was breaking out so they knew. Whatever meds they gave him helped the pain but he had sores for probably 6 months & could see the spots a year later. What I thought interesting was if I drank something with ice, the spots immediately registered cold, if I had something hot, felt like being burned with a cigarette. My doctor in KC got me right in, she was the one that treated me for the brown spider bite & shocked when it kept getting bigger & worse with all they had to offer. Since I didn't even have a scar after my home remedy, she just asked me "what was I going to do because they used the same meds for shingles as the spider bite." I think I was lucky to catch so early & started the B-1 plus mine were reachable with a cloth soaked in Epsom salt the first few days. The internal pain is worse than any I had ever felt, Andy thought the same. My sincere sympathy to your son. Far as I know, B-1 should not conflict with anything else (wouldn't hurt to check). I take any time I plan to be out during mosquito season... only 1 per day & 100mg works for adults. An old pharmacist told me to try when our kids were little "if they could swallow pills"... said was what was in the prescription for mosquitoes ... for the little one, 25 mg, next size 50 mg & 100 for adults. I am never without!  I've even tried mashing the out of date ones in a baggy, then put in a bottle of baby oil to rub around my neck, seems to keep mosquitoes from buzzing around but come to think of it, nobody ever sits too close. (kidding). They don't dissolve completely, but the grainy stuff sticks to the skin & not dangerous if not washed off right away. My mother was upset when she read about 2 people dying in sleeping bags because they didn't wash off the bug spray so made a point of warning me before our first trip to the mountains.

Bed time here, sun about down. I am sleepy & think will turn in early. Tomorrow the rain is supposed to start & be off & on through the week end. Can't do anything about that so will try not to whine too much. Sweet dreams and God Bless. We may as well enjoy each day, we don't get a re-make of the 24 hours. Love y'all.

You slipped in, Jane.... ever try to cut your own hair?  I found a place to buy the old Schick injector type blades that I've used since high school. Gives the hair a slice instead of blunt cut so lays better. The few times I've ever let anyone else cut it, didn't look any better so I don't have to wait for someone else to cut & look at all the money I've saved during my 85 years!  Shirley

Good morning everyone. Yes I am still alive and well. slept most of the day yesterday. Slept a litle later this morning.

SHIRLEY  just what "wa-la" meams or what language? do you mean "voila" in French for  something like  "there" for a job well done? I would love getting rid of the oain, the rest of the body is mine and I was never a beauty anyway. I have been havin a 2 hour sleep after my breakfast lately. Cannot seem to get enough of it lately.

AMY  you sound like me woth sunburn. We used to go to the beach often-the Atlantic, I enjoy ed getting in the salt water and alwas burned. Sitting on the beach I would have a towel aroung me and a big straw hat on. Didn't help because I got burned in the  water. Would blister an peel. Learned that plain old vinegar would take the heat out of the burn. I never did tan. Of course all the freckles would pop out.

ROSEMARY  if you have a computer you have notepad. I alway type on that at the top I put the code and start typing right at the end of it. then when finish I go to the post box and make it bigger Thencopy every thing on the notepad and paste in the post box. Yes your font and lloyds are hard to read. The people in the apartments on the second floor-middle floor-never turn their heat on in the winter. Too warm. If I feel cold I turn it up.

AMY  you just taught me something new. Larry sent me the code I use ant it says 14pt for the font size, There is more to it, nice and easy if I can use it.

ROSEMARY easy to read now. Thanks.

LLOYD  I sent the code to you awhile ago but you never used it.

These are what Larry sent me. I don't care for bold so use the bottom one.

Lloyd try ONE of these codes. The top one is bold and the bottom is regular. You start typing right after the last bracket  ]

JANE  if you ever get frustrated kneading the bread dough by hand is one way to get rid of it. ;)  Just 39 here and 33 yesterday. Turned the heat up yesterday.

CALLIE  I don't remember what my sis in lsw ou t in beirs but she did put  some Hershey's cocoa on top and it was great. Chocolae cake is my favorite. It was at least 15-16  years ago I was there. they are both gone now and I still miss both of them.

Have a good day and stay safe.
