A quick Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.  When it goes, the day begins.  Still waiting for one call back from the phone calls I made yesterday and for Frankie to return the texts about another phone call.  I need her for delivery service.

It got down to 37 overnight and is supposed to reach a high of 70 this afternoon.  Quite a wide range but that's Spring in Pennsylvania!

Don't know what is on the agenda for today but I do have some meat in the fridge that needs to be cooked.  And I have to make doggie food sometime today.  A whole bunch of weed makers came off the tree in the yard and today I'm going to pick them out of my garden.  We'll see how that goes!

I've had my first cup of coffee and now the day begins!  I wish you a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it!

Amy

Good morning everyone...
Another beautiful day out there........going to be a hot one for us.
We went and picked up more material for another trug and it is just about finished[, just needs the plastic lining and trim on it. While Kyle worked at that I planted more garden and watered what had already been planted.

Today is work on the flower bed out front and plant scarlet runners   out back. Have friends coming to pick up some things that I picked up for her later today.

Callie ,between you and my sister decided our supper last night. While talking with my sis she said she was having spaghetti in the IP and that only takes 10mins to cook. No boiling water just dump everything in the pot.See where this is going?? Yes, we had dump cake for dessert  , only had chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling  and it was delicious! Will be making that cake again!

The boss just came in so better go get ready.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe./color]

I'm sorry I have been missing and that I haven't responded to anyone but this weather as brought back the Meniere's.  At least, today I'm able to stand well enough to get out of bed...or recliner...so things are hopefully getting better.  I'll be back when my world settles down a little bit and if, and when, this rain ever goes away.

Hi everyone

It's been a cloudy day here on Deeside, we will go for a walk shortly though.

I hav been reading and writing almost all day - finished Ghost Trees, which was excellent, highly recommended for anyone who is interested in nature and also local London history.

I then read a GM Malliet novel, In Prior's Wood, from cover to cover - though unfortunately I remembered fairly soon why the previous ones in the series, which I read some time ago, had irritated me so much!  The books are about the vicar of a small English village who is also an amateur sleuth - he is supposed to be stunningly handsome, and an ex-spy for M15, and he is married to a woman who believes in Wicca. There are many annoying people around in this book, but the worst is the wife, Awena, who is just too perfect, kind, clever, skilful, moral, patient, etc to be true. And now they have the perfect child, who never cries, can be looked after by just about any of the numerous volunteers that (apparently!) every village has, and always goes to bed with no trouble at all so that Max and Awena can have their friends round to dinner (perfectly cooked by Awena of course) in their perfect cottage. Also, the author is American, and even though my edition was published in the UK by a London publisher, all of the spellings are the American versions, and - much worse - the expressions the characters use are also American, and simply would never be used by British people. I think if she wanted to write like this, the author should have set her stories in a small American town - I do not, of course, have any problem with American spellings and expressions if they are in an American setting!

So anyway, I've finished that now!

At lunchtime I joined a 'group watch' on Facebook in which one of my favourite nature writers, Jim Crumley, read from his new book, The Nature of Spring. It was a section about him sitting by a tree in the Highlands, watching a deer and her faun.  Jim is such a good writer, he really takes you there and you feel as though you are sitting with him, seeing the animals.

Today I also heard from a friend in East Lothian; Anne normally runs her own little cafe and craft shop, but of course she has had to close these and has had no word about when and how she might reopen. Luckily the shop is part of their house, so she does not have to pay rent, and the catering equipment she has is all her own, not leased, so she does not have any outgoings. She is a great crafter herself, a textile artist, and she is also someone who is constantly running around looking after all the elderly or disabled people in her village - I imagine she is still doing a lot of that, but she says she is also enjoying the lockdown, as it has given her some time to herself to get back drawing, sewing and designing. I do wish we could meet up - hopefully that will be possible before too long.

Thanks for the cake instructions Callie - I must say I have never heard of that before!

Phyllis - I am so sorry you are feeling ill again, and I do hope it goes soon, it sounds miserable.

Last night we watched the final instalment of David Stratton's Story of Australian Cinema, I have very much enjoyed the entire series. He introduced us to many films we had never heard of, and also talked about the famous ones like Muriel's Wedding, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Walkabout, A Cry in the Dark, and Rabbit-Proof Fence. One I would really like to see is The Castle, but the only copy on Amazon costs almost £30. Two of our branch libraries have it so I will just have to wait till they finally reopen, whenever that may be.

Jane - what is this 'boinger'?

I have already made pasta sauce for dinner, so when we get back from walking we will only have to cook the pasta itself - otherwise we often don't seem to eat till 9pm, which is too late even by my standards. I was in our little Co-Op last night and they were selling off raspberries, blackberries and apricots, so I have been snacking on them all afternoon - the soft fruit is such a treat when it appears, but usually terribly expensive.

Hope everyone is having a nice day,

Rosemary

JaneS

ROSEMARY, my dog has to take a pill in the morning and then wait for an hour before eating anything.  So I set the timer on my cell phone for when it will be time to feed her.  I use the sound that seems to be "boing" so I refer to it as the "boinger".  I've been doing this for so many years that I think everyone knows what it is.

I finished everything I needed to do today and we're ready for supper and a walk if it doesn't start raining before we go.  It's not supposed to start until around 8 so I think we're safe.

AMY, I sure wish I lived closer.  The way Kyle is turning out those trugs, I'd be sure to have one for myself.  CHRISTY took the instructions home with her the last time she was here and I'm betting she has one before long.  Her husband likes to work with his hands, too.  And the picture is sure intriguing.  I have to tell you...
she looked at the directions and the pictures and her first comment was, "That's the cleanest garage I've ever seen!"

Better go feed Mickie and me, too.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Another day in the Covid world......Today is Dr. Dave's Birthday, but  sadly we did not get together due to it being his late day at work and our not being able to gather together for a meal.  We are hopeful we will get to spend a bit of time with him one day of this holiday weekend.

Speaking of the long weekend.....I had no idea it will be Memorial Day on a Monday.

LLOYD, sorry to read you had ANOTHER mishap today.  Hope the scrapped arm is all you hurt!

We enjoyed another pretty day here in the Mile High, and thankfully there were no winds today 👍

PHYLLIS, I am so sorry to read your Meniere's has kicked up again.  I hope it will pass quickly and you will feel so much better.

AMY, a friend recently shared a recipe with me that sounds like your spaghetti you had for dinner.....I hope to try it soon.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good Morning everyone. and yes the scraped arm is all seams to be done. we are at 60º and light rain showers now and heading for 69º and rain all day what the weather guesser says. hope you all have a great day just like you like it. I will check in again later on to see how you all are doing.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

Going to be another lovely day out there. Need to take leaf rakings and garbage to the dump this morning. We have been under a burn ban and now that is lifted we can take the bags. Then home to fill the third trug and get it planed as it is already in place and good to go.  Should chase the dust bunnies but we will see what wins out , inside or out :)

Jane, if we lived closer you would have a trug or two!!  I am patiently waiting on the pumpkin seed to grow here.. rhubarb is getting to the point where I can pick some and make a pie.

Jenny, with the instant pot there is no boiling water..........just throw meat ,spaghetti and sauce in for 10 min and she is done! Happy birthday to Dave... I know how you feel as we couldn't get together with our David to celebrate in March.

Lloyd, hope you are not sore today from your trip.

Phyliss, hope today is a better day for you.

Joy, wondering how you are doing, hope you are  ok.

Gloria, we are to have rain on Mon and Tue so they say and it is much needed here.

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a rainy day here too.  Supposed to start around 10 and last most of the day.  At least we might get our morning walk in before it starts.  Yesterday was such a nice day, I think I was spoiled!

It's almost time for the "boinger" so I'll keep this short.  Sorry I didn't get here to check out last night but I just plain couldn't keep my eyes open.  It was all I could do just to get ready for bed and I slept well the first half of the night but the second half was wakeful.

I don't know what today will bring.  I'm just going to do whatever suits my fancy and if nothing does, I might try doing that again.  However, I'm pretty sure that won't work any better this time than the last time.

JENNY, I hope you get to celebrate the holiday and Dr. D's birthday with you family.  I'm really getting tired of this isolation.  One nice thing...the nice weather has brought the neighbors out of hiding and there are people to wave to or say "Hi" along our walks.

PHYLLIS, I hope you feel better this morning and even better this afternoon!

I wonder where JOY is?

Gotta get moving!  I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with us!

Good morning.

Jane and Gloria,  I am still around.  Just have not been on the computer that much,  I get very overwhelmed at times with having to stay put.  I don't feel like doing anything and therefore, don't do nothing.  I did get my hair cut the other day and thought that would boost my spirits, but it really didn't.  Just have to try to get myself out of the doldrums.  I have been reading a lot, but even that, makes me so sleepy.

Thanks for thinking about me.  I will eventually get myself straightened out.  I miss being able to go out to eat the most, I think.  Just not the same bringing it home.  And, I sure don't feel like cooking.  Been eating a lot of sandwiches.

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone.Already 60 at 8am. I will be wanting AC before the day is over. 2 days ago I had the heat on. I know one thing, humidity is already climbing. My back is acting up so will welcome a back massage when Yvette gets here.

AMY  with all the rain we have had this year you might think we would not need more but we have been having brush fires around.

Sorry for being so short toda but have to get off this chair and lay down again.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Rosemary

Hello everyone  :)

I am sorry so many of us seem to have aches and pains at the moment. I must say my own back and shoulders are sore today, and I don't really know why. I wrote to the GP for a repeat prescription for cocodamol but it has not yet arrived, so I am hanging on to the two tablets I have left.

We have rain and winds today - the latter gusted so hard it blew my lovely mini-greenhouse right over and all my precious seeds and seedlings were tipped out. I managed to salvage the recognisable ones and put them back in the pots, but I have no idea which seeds were where, so I have just put all the compost back in pots and we will see if anything emerges.

Joy, I am so sorry that you are feeling sad. This thing will pass, but in the meantime it is hard, and I totally agree that takeouts are not the same - I too really miss going out for my coffee, alone or with a friend.

I do have the company of my husband here, and I am truly grateful for that, but on the rare occasions that he is not working, he is always involved in some project or another! - today he is photographing all of his late mother's paintings and drawings. There are at least one hundred to do, they have been in the garage for ages. He says he intends to make a book of the photos for his sister and brother. I'm not sure how well the photography is going, and he looked a bit cross when I went in to try to salvage the poor greenhouse so I am keeping out of the way - I am up here in the spare bedroom, and should be writing reviews.  I also know what you mean about falling asleep reading - especially in the warm afternoons.  We can't get our hair done here at the moment, those hairdressers are going to be so busy when they are allowed to open up.

Jane, thanks for explaining about the boinger! You must have one patient dog - our retrievers would have gone mad if they couldn't have their food the minute I came downstairs. I remember once, I had just given one of them his dinner when my husband came in from work. That dog was absolutely devoted to David, he wanted to run to the front door to greet him, but at the same time he could not bear to stop eating his food - he was sorely conflicted, though luckily it only ever took him about 2 minutes to demolish his bowlful.

Last night we watched the next episode of The Real Marigold Hotel, about the celebrities who are 'trying out' India as a retirement location. The house they are staying in is in Pondicherry, which looks like a lovely seaside city, but next week they are moving to the foothills of the Himalayas. It reminded me so much of The Jewel in the Crown, when all the families of the British Raj families used to move up to houseboats at Kashmir for the summer, to get away from the terrible heat further south. Of course nowadays Kashmir would not be safe, it is disputed territory and full of terrorists/Freedom Fighters (depending on one's point of view...) The Jewel in the Crown is still one of my favourite TV series - Art Malik, Charles Dance, Geraldine James, Tim Piggott-Smith, Judy Parfitt (now the very elderly nun in Call the Midwife), Peggy Ashcroft and of Susan Wooldridge - what a cast that was.

Shirley

Hope you are going to stay feeling better, Phyllis. I think our bodies like to remind us to watch out, WE are not in control. I know I am so less tolerant of any ache or pain these days, just because I am fed up with only myself & cats for company.

My new glasses make me dizzy, had so hoped removing some of the "angle" in the prescription would help. I find myself having to grab for a wall or something for fear I'll tip over. After wearing a while my right eye gets real blurry when I take the glasses off, it has the worst cataract, but could see as clear as ever with the other glasses. Can't imagine what is causing that. For sure, having cataracts is not the main problem, it is ill fitting glasses! I wish I knew of an old timer optometrist that would take time to test without racing through... my eyes don't adjust as fast as they flip "is this best or this best?".... I realized that was the problem when driving through the mountain canyons in the evening, jumping from bright sun to dark shadows, my eyes are still on dim when bright!  :-\

Gloria, you & others have talked about "feeling the damp cold in your bones" and I finally got a good dose of it this week. Really does show up in joints, doesn't it?  I was wishing for kind of  knee "gloves" when wind went through the knit sweat pants the other day. Never noticed that before, but last time I wore knit out in a cold, damp wind.

Waiting for the AC man to come, schedule was between 9:00 & noon.... I woke up at 3:00 am to storms & cats wanting in. decided too early to stay up so crawled back in bed but slept with one eye open knowing I had to get cats & myself fed, dressed before the AC man showed up. Usually I am first on the list, but not today. I can hardly keep my eyes open but can't dare fall asleep. Cats don't understand being shut out of the house, but when Callie comes in I have to make sure the basement door & folding door to the "other end of the house" is closed because she likes to sneak into those rooms & has "claimed her spot" more than once. Makes a lot of extra work for me. Anyway, they are sleeping in the pool area & will be upset when the AC man has to come past them to hose off the insides of the AC unit. They will fly over the fence. So goes the day.

Nice to see our Jane & Amy are keeping busy. Joy, know what you mean about doing NUTHIN! Jane says we can't, but I'm giving it a good try.  :P

You & your husband do keep busy, Rosemary, a slightly different routine that most in here. When he gets all through photographing the paintings maybe you will post a photo of your favorite for us to see. My mother painted like Grandma Moses... on the other hand, I paint very realistic. She won awards at the state fair and I never entered the fair contest since elementary school when teachers sent our work to be judged.

Rosemary - I don't often post here in Soda Shoppe, but I saw your message this morning, where you mentioned the series, The Jewel in the Crown.  I haven't seen it, but will try to locate it, as I would like to see more of Charles Dance.  I was so impressed with him,  playing Lord Mountbatten, in The Crown!  When he recited Kipling's,  Mandalay, I fell in love!    It was the first time that I was really aware of him, even though I had seen him in Game of Thrones.  I didn't realize it was the same actor, until I looked him up online.  I'll do a search, and see if I can find The Jewel in the Crown, playing anywhere here.

I would like to invite you to join us in the Leisure Activities forum, here in Seniors and Friends.  https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?board=16.0

Not many members posting in the Library Bookshelf, these days, but we're trying to keep it moving along with recommendations and comments.  Also, check out the folder Television Today.  It includes TV shows and series, both old and new, as well as all the movies that are available on our many TV channels/Netflix/Amazon, et al

Rosemary

Oh thanks Marilyne, I will take a look those folders, I hadn't really ever got beyond this one.

Charles Dance was very young when he was in The Jewel in the Crown (which is fabulous, in my opinion) - he comes into it relatively late but there are lots of other excellent actors in the earlier episodes.

Slightly more recently he was a terrifying Mr Tulkinghorn in the BBC's adaptation of Bleak House. In fact in recent years he has almost exclusively played baddies. whereas in The Jewel he was lovely! I still have not seen The Crown, I really must rectify that.

Rosemary

Shirley - if he EVER finishes this project i will indeed try to post a picture!

I can't paint or draw at all, I wish I could. My husband is quite good, and my younger daughter has just completed her penultimate year at art school in Dundee.

Your house and grounds sound amazing - they must be huge! Space is always at a premium in the UK, though less so in rural Scotland, especially where my son and daughter in law live in the Highlands.

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Thunder and the sound of rain awoke me at 5:00 a.m. I just put a pillow over my ear and went back to sleep.  When I opened the north blinds, there were raindrops on the window screens and one of the trellis planters around the a/c on the patio had blown over. Fortunately, the ivy threaded through the trellis wasn't affected.
The paper was so soggy that I pitched it in the trash bin instead of hanging pages on a clothes rack to dry out as I usually do.

Amy,  ooh - I forgot about cherry pie filling and chocolate mix for the dump cake.  Yum yum!

Rosemary, so sorry about your little greenhouse.  Are you going to leave the "mixed up pots" and see what comes up?  You may have discovered an interesting combination.  :)

Shirley,  your focus issue sounds a bit like astigmatism. That's when your eyes don't focus in on things very quickly (which, it just dawned on me, may be the purpose of that "which is clearer A or B" test that I also hate).
#1 son, who was a very good athlete, wore glasses but had problems with batting when he played baseball.  His eyes couldn't focus on the incoming ball and he almost always struck out.  However, he was a great outfielder because it took the ball longer to get to him.

Joy,  I understand your "doldrums".  Domestic Duties for a household of one (no pets, thankyouverymuch) don't take that long and I'm actually getting tired of having nothing to do but read.  Didn't think I'd ever in my lifetime reach that point.

I have begun writing a story/narrative/essay/?? about my mother and her two sisters. Plan A is to write a section about their life growing up and then do a biography of each one. Have a First Draft of the "life growing up" section just about done and material collected for the bios.  However, moving from reading in the recliner to typing on the computer is also getting tedious.

(Yes, thank you, I will have some cheese with my Whine :D )

I did thaw a piece of round steak to put in the small crockpot for dinner and should probably get that started.

CUL8R.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

A good Friday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

Another beautiful morning here.  I love the ability to sit out on my deck, listening to my fountain and watching all the birdies.  It seems we have more birds than ever being spotted all of the metro area this spring.  I love it!  We are also inundated with many Millard Moths! A friend of mine that lives in Santa Fe told me over a week ago that they were thick down there and now they are here too!

AMY, we sure do enjoy hearing about your thugs and the planting that you are doing.

ROSEMARY, I am sorry to read about the wind that blew your little greenhouse over.  How sad..I hope you were able to save a lot of your seedlings in spite of the fact that you now have no idea what they are.  It will be fun to see them grow so you can see what they are.  I, too, hope one day we can view some of your husbands hard work of photographing his mother's art work. I must say, I had to chuckle at your comment "he looked a bit cross", so you are staying out of his way! 🤣🤣. We enjoyed The Marigold Hotel movies.  My hubby has been watching some of the great old movies and he says they are so much more enjoyable than the new stuff today.

JOY, I think you are in the norm of how many are feeling these days after having to stay at home.  I agree that the picked up food that we are eating at home is just not that rewarding.  To be very honest I am fearful of starting to go out to restaurant again, even though I have been thinking how much I wish we could. This is a very scary time in our lives and many are having a hard time dealing with it.  You take care now and hang in there. 😘

SHIRLEY, I do hope the A/C man showed and finished the cleaning of your unit.  The last time I got new prescription glasses they were made over three times for me and I still could not see well out of them.  Lady year I changed to a new Opthmologist and she did not even write me a prescription....she said I have 20/20 vision😩😩😩 Let me tell you.....there is NO WAY I have 20/20 vision....I cannot hardly see a thing.....I use cheaters to read and distance is fuzzy...

I am washing our winter heated mattress pad and I have to keep turning it a different way in the dryer....oh how I wish I had your clothes line AMY!

I just wanted to mention that I fixed bone and skin on chicken in my new air fryer for dinner last night and it was wonderful!

CALLIE, I can not wait for the new season of Mrs. Maisel to start.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Shirley

Callie, you are right, the astigmatism is the main problem, have always had in one eye but last doctor said it was both. That didn't fit too good but this last exam thought it would improve to weaken that part but not working well. I am more concerned about why it makes my right eye so blurry when I take the glasses off. My near vision really is 20-20, I can read the copyrite at the bottom of the chart, so no need for bifocals. Was having trouble reading street signs though, so really would love to meet up with one of those old timer optometrists. The first eye doctor I went to after growing up was back in 1984 and he got the glasses perfect, a little near and little far sighted. My glasses were like binoculars, when held up away from face, the top part made everything look smaller and the bifocal part enlarged. Sadly, that doctor retired.

Well, enough about my eyes. Certainly does make life difficult when they don't work right. So far I don't think I am a danger to myself or anyone else (driving). I do warn people when I bump into something in crowded aisle in the store that "I drive like this, too"... usually gets a smile.

Sweet dreams and God Bless. Quiet right now, better check to see if weather guessers are calling for rain again tonight. I need sleep so cats need to know if it calls for in or out.

Shirley if you do not have a big dent in the hood or the front finders put one there and hang a sign on it they will stay clear of you. good night and sweet dreams.

Amy

Good morning everyone..

We did get the bags of leaves, twigs, pine cones and garbage taken away to the dump. Being the second ones in there we had to watch where we were stepping as the bear family had been there shopping.

Friends were here when we got home, left me a bag of goodies (fabric) and she got her goodies. We had picked up more soil so now trug #3 is filled ready for planting. Then back to town to pick up more lumber for another trug which is now 3/4 finished and will be ready for pick up later today or tomorrow.

Today, laundry and I had better do some baking, not a cookie in the house here to nibble on.

Shirley, I hope you find a solution to your eyes and soon.

Jenny, you gave me a giggle with your thugs. Now there is a 3rd to plant, guess I had better get some peas and put in one as ,Kyle enjoys just picking and eating them raw.

Joy, glad you are doing alright. You are the envy of many with being able to get your hair cut.

Rosemary, just think of the surprises you will get when you plant your seedlings.

Gloria, hope today is a better day for you.

Sitting here listening to the loon's call echoing across the lake...

Better get going and get work done before the day heats up.

Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I read the paper first this morning before coming into the computer room.  It's another dreary day here today and heading for more rain late morning into afternoon!  Boy! Is the grass ever growing!

I'm going to have to cut this short because I have to get dressed and take Mickie for a walk before the rains come and before Cathy gets here from her trip to the grocery store.

I hope you all have a great day! Make the most of it!
