Thanks Marilyne for the suggestions.  Larry and I are both saturated with all the news and it is oozing our of the pores.  Too much news for a while.

Denver

Enjoyed reading a few of the posts in this folder.  Thank you, MARILYNE, for the invite to join in this discussion.

We have been watching a lot of different things that we normally would not even consider, but with so much available and taking suggestions, we have found that we are enjoying a lot of different things.

Currently we are watching Ozark. The first show I had to talk myself into watching and now I am hooked.  We are about half way through the first season.

We did watch TIGER KING, and again, it is not my cup of tea, but by watching I at least knew what others were talking about.

No doubt the old shows that you all have mentioned are still my favorite.  Sometimes I just want to watch something light and funny. I am sure happy we can go and seek these old shows out to enjoy once again.

Happy TV watching.

JENNY  - So good to see you here in the Television/Movie folder!  I see it's been almost a week since you posted here, and no responses! Usually we have a lot more comments here, but I guess everyone is worn out from watching so much TV news!   I've spent way too much time zoned out in front of the television these past couple of months, and yet I only mention a fraction of the many shows and movies that I've seen. There is such an abundance of programming and so many channels, that none of us ever seem to be watching or attracted to the same shows anymore?

Remember back in the old days, when everyone watched the network shows like Dallas, The Rockford Files , Carol Burnett , or Magnum PI?  Then we'd go to work the next day, and everyone was talking about last night's episode!   Not so anymore.  There are so many to choose from now, that it's hard to find anyone who is watching the same shows I'm watching, or has just seen the latest Oscar winning movie.

I watched  Ozark,  for the first two seasons but have not yet seen Season #3.   WOW, that's an easy one to get hooked on!!  I have mixed feelings about the show, but no matter whether you like it or dislike it,  no doubt that the acting is incredible. I can see why it was nominated for so many EMMY awards.

Other recent series we've watched recently are Succession, on HBO, and Waco, on Netflix.  "Succession", is my favorite right now, and I'm really looking forward to Season #3.  I do get wrapped up in lots of the series shows, as they come and go over the years.  Very few that we haven't watched, that played on HBO or Showtime.

We also both enjoy movies, both old and new.  The one I mentioned above - The Mule, starring Clint Eastwood, is one of my recent favorites.  Also, lots of good "oldies" on Turner Classic Movies and also on Netflix.

I hope you come back and tell us how you're liking "Ozark", and about any movies that you recommend?

Denver

MARILYNE, we just finished season 2 of Ozark....so in the same spot as you and AJ are.  It is one crazy series, but yes, I am hooked and can not wait to see what season 3 is going to be!  We want to watch Succession, but thought we would finish Ozark first.

We really have not watched any more movies recently.....Ozark fills up our time these days😘

I long for the old TV series.....they were so easy to watch and always a lot of good laughs.

Hope you and all the followers are having a good day!

Speaking of the "old" tv series, Jenny, I began watching "Cheers" on Netflix out of desperation.  I just wanted something light and "mindless".  I'm so tired of the more serious stuff with all of the bad news going on around us.  I've enjoyed it.  It really is "mindless" but just what I think I needed right now.

I had a wonderful time watching an old PBS production on Amazon Prime the other day of "Rebecca".  The book by Daphne Du Maurier has always been my top favorite and I've read it many times.  This 1997 production with Charles Dance as Maxim De Winter and Diana Rigg as Mrs. Danvers is a very good one.

Marilyne, I have been watching and DVR'ing the 3 part series on History Channel about U.S. Grant.  Very interesting.  I watched the first episode and DVR'd the rest, so today I've started episode 2, which is 2+ hours long.  There is still the 3rd on my DVR.  I have not gotten into Ozark yet, although everyone raves about it.  On regular TV, I have been watching and DVR'ing "Council of Dads" which runs on NBC.  It's very sad in places, but the acting is great. (It's set in Savannah, GA) I noticed I have my DVR up to 70% capacity, so I'm flip/flopping from one series to another just to get an hour off each time.  I like to try and keep it down to around 55%.  My problem is, I have a lot of the "Great Performances" from PBS on there, with most running 2 hours.  Also, any series I'm watching may have 5 to 6 or more episodes.  I had watched Season 1 of "Manifest", so now I've taped All of Season 2, to watch "sometime".
Today not going to be a very productive day, as it is the 2 year anniversary of my husband's passing, and I can't seem to get myself in gear to do anything, but watch TV and Eat.

JeanneP

I have Comcast but right now everything that comes on seems to be repeats. The public to stations ,all 4 of them. It shows a good one in the paper for certain  time .i get ready and politics comes on in its place or I series from 3 years back. I need to look into getting a couple of the streaming channels put on tv.
JeanneP

Denver

PHYLLIS, I watched a few episodes of Cheers not too long ago and enjoyed them so much.  Great series.  We have been watching way too much TV since this pandemic started, but there is not much else to do.

TOMEREADER, I, too, am watching Council of Dads and agree with you it is a tear jerker at times but I am very fond of the characters.  OZARK is a bit on the edge, and you have to be able to accept a lot, but you really get hooked and I just can't stop watching it.

JEANNE, these days one pretty much needs to have some other sources for your TV viewing as regular cable leaves a lot to be desired.  As you stated, you just can't count on what is really available to watch.  Have you noticed how many infomercial are on there now days?

Happy viewing.

That is true. I need to set up some of the streaming stations because nothing is being shown on regular cable. Finely found out why. People have cancelled their commercials so that is what pays for the big shows. Even public tv. None of the series on this Sat or Sunday night .no masterpiece . Just showing old travel . Country music and even then doing the pledging. I just turned to off.
JeanneP

CallieOK

Does "streaming" mean you have to watch something on a computer, tablet, I-phone or ?? (something other than your t.v. set?

Marilyne

Callie - I was also confused about that for a long time.   Streaming, doesn't mean you have to watch on any device, other than your TV.  Streaming channels are Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and others.   They have no commercials, because you pay a monthly fee, when you sign up, which is taken out of your credit card.  The fees are relatively low, like you automatically get Amazon channel,  if you sign up for or already have AmazonPrime.com.   We pay $12.99 per month for Netflix, which is deducted from our Visa account.  We never go to a movie at a theater, and very seldom go out for dinner except on special occasions, so we justify it as our "entertainment".  Amazon, is a different story, in that we do order a lot of merchandise from Amazon.com/ over a years time.   So the Amazon Prime TV channel, is simply a perk.   We need closed captions, which we get on both of those streaming channels.   I understand that some of the newer streaming channels don't get captions??

Marilyne,  thanks for the info.  HBO is included in my cable setup and my son/dil installed Netflix, which must be on their account because I've never seen a monthly charge on my Visa.
I have noticed that several Netflix series have moved to another streaming channel and will miss "One Day At A Time".

Don't know why - but I haven't been able to get into watching a lot of the series on Netflix or very many programs on HBO.  Might be different if there was someone else involved but...
I watched "A Million Little Things" but never started "Council of Dads".   Guess I'd had enough of the "angst" of today's young parents.

P.S.  I hope those of you who have watched "Tiger King" won't judge Oklahomans by that idiot!   I suspect most wouldn't even put him on the list of Famous Oklahoma Eccentrics. !

Marilyne

Not much in the way of recommendations here,  for TV shows or movies.  I know you're all watching something besides the sad and depressing news, so let us know what???  In the meantime, I'll offer another TV show that I'm enjoying,  and getting a kick out of!

This one is on Netflix, and it's unique, to say the least.  It's called, Selling Sunset,  and is a true reality show centered around a real estate company located  on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood.    This is NOT a reality show in the same sense as, The Kardashian's,  which I watched once, and turned off half way through the episode.

This is a real, live, made for TV series.  The Real Estate company, The Oppenheim Group, actually exists on Sunset Blvd, and the twin brothers who own the business are part of the show.  The realtors who work for the company, and who show and sell the multi-million dollar houses in that area, are all young, sharp, beautiful women.

The most fun to watch, are the quick tours of the fabulous houses for sale in the Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Sunset/West Hollywood area.  The realtor takes her client,  the potential buyer,  on a tour of the house for sale.  One recently shown, is listed for $40 million!  :yikes:   Besides the houses, it's fun to see the clothes, hair styles, and life styles of these realtors!  Needless to say, they are extremely competitive!  Some are married with children, others are single, and planning weddings, parties, etc.    If anyone decides to give it a look, there are two seasons available on Netflix now.  I finished Season #1, and have started on Season #2.

Tomereader1

Has anyone watched "Somebody Feed Phil"?  My daughter recommended to me.  She has watched about all of them, but I've only watched the first episode of Season 3.(Netflix)
Word of warning, DO NOT WATCH "FREUD" which is on Amazon Prime. It is done in Hungarian/German with subtitles; is nothing more than a horror flick with a lot of blood, gore and Sex thrown in.  Told me nothing about Freud.  Also, do not watch "Hollywood" (I forget whether Netflix or Amazon) it is totally about Sex, both heterosexual and homosexual in the lives of young men and women coming to Hollywood to be in "The Movies".  The automobiles they use are beautiful specimens; the wardrobe of the ladies is notable, but I'm not going to be able to make it through 4 or 5 episodes of this garbage. (Did I mention the foul language?) Enough said.

FlaJean

Marilyne, "selling Sunset" sounds interesting.  My grandson, Jason, lived in Hollywood when he first moved to Calif.  he loved it there.

JeanneP

For some of us that are not yet using  the Screaning or what ever they are calling it. such as netflix or Amazon. there are so many now. On Comcast now all seems to be repeats or even many of the good shows have been taken off. Guess it is because the people who pay by putting their commercials on with the show. now cancelled out.
Watching very little TV.
JeanneP

Marilyne

The latest new trend for new  Netflix shows,  seems to be the  "documentary series".  This style of show, features real people, (not actors),  working at their jobs, and interacting with co-workers, clients, patients, plus their personal relationships, family troubles, etc.   The one I mentioned yesterday,  Selling Sunset,  is set up like that.  Of course it's staged, but the settings are in the Real Estate office, or the houses for sale that they are showing,  plus actual restaurants in the area, scenes at the beach, weddings, parties, etc.

The newest show of that genre, that I intend to take a look at tonight, is called Lenox Hill.   According to my update from Netflix,  it's a "docu-series", about life at an actual New York hospital, and beyond!   "Four doctors at New York's storied Lenox Hill Hospital balance their personal lives and their dedication to their patients in this documentary series."

These shows are a far cry from the old style reality programming, like,  "The Kardashian's", where family members sit around the living room and talk to each other . . . or talk about each other.

Jean - I don't think Larry, will be interested in,  Selling Sunset.  AJ watched a couple of episodes, but didn't stick with it.  It really is a show focused on, and all about women.

FlaJean

Marilyne, you are right.  Larry watched some of it and couldn't believe they were professional agents.  I watched all the episodes in one sitting.  Now I'm wondering what's going to happen with the "new" girl and the "mean" girl, etc. 😁

Marilyne

Jean -  I'm glad you liked "Selling Sunset".   It's a fun show to watch, and also easy to get hooked on it.   Yesterday I finished watching Season #2.   It's available now, as I'm sure you noticed.  I did a little research online, and found out that everyone on the show is authentic, and are all using their real names, and working for The Oppenheim Group.   There is information on everyone, and many of them also have Facebook and Instagram accounts.   My favorite is Mary Fitzgerald.  I found out that she is actually one of the top realtors in the Hollywood area, and is the top seller working for Oppenheim.

FlaJean

I like Mary also, but I don't think she'll end up marrying that young guy.  Larry says he thinks he is just in for money.  I have a feeling Larry is right.

Marilyne

Jean -  You'll have to watch Season #2, to find out!  :whisper:

FlaJean

Marilyne, I watched Season 2 of "Selling Sunsets" this morning.  I must say the bridegroom sure looked happy.  I think there is more to that young man than I thought.  Series 3 is supposed to start in August.

Marilyne

Jean - I meant to get back to you on,  "Selling Sunset".   I agree that Romain,  seems like a sincere young man, and I hope the marriage works out for the two of them.  That is a huge age difference.  Nobody would think a thing about it, if it were the other way around, and he was 13 years older than Mary.

I thought it was interesting, seeing their parents.  Mary looks just like her mother.  It was nice that her Dad and her son, both walked her down the isle.

As for the other women in the Oppenheim Group - it will be interesting to see if Christine and her fiancĂ© actually get married.  I feel sorry for him!!  ha ha.

Another one of the women that I like, is Maya.  She is the one with the baby boy, and now expecting another baby.

Tomereader1

To you Netflix-ers out here...Give a watch to their documentary series "Lenox Hill". It is about 6 or 8 episodes, and is fascinating and well done.  If you are disturbed by watching operations, you may need to close your eyes.  It is done in the Lenox Hill Hospitals in New York City. Episodes about fantastic neurologists, brain tumor patients; OB-GYN, childbirths; Emergency Room Episodes. My daughter put me on to this series, and was certainly glad she did.  I enjoyed every episode, and I understand there will be a "special Episode" on June 24 or 25.  Netflix.

Marilyne

Tome - Regarding your recommendation for Lenox Hill:  I meant to respond as soon as I saw it, but I see that I never did.  It is a good, high quality live medical series.  We also watched all episodes,  and thought it was excellent and very well done. I hope we will see more in the future, but I'm afraid it will be a long time.  Because of Covid-19, new episodes of all of my favorite TV shows and series,  are not being filmed at this time.  :(

I just found the old Carol Burnett shows on our local FIOS TV Linup. Looks like Mon - Sat 8:00 to 9:00 PM'
The Channel name is "FOLK" TV.  http://myfolk.tv/
I just checked the web site and there is a "Watch Live" Choice at the top. It is now showing "The Red Skelton Hour".  Don't know how good the web showing is but what I get on the TV is a welcome change from all the news and mayhem.

Now on Dish Network ch 218, FIOS ch 229, Frontier ch 229 Look for MNET or Hapa on Comcast and Charter Tell Alexa to Play " My FOLK TV " https://my.roku.com/add/NQQL6C

I don't know how you are getting all those screening places on yout tv. I use just the basic Comcast with a few additions but right now not worth watching. My tv 5 years old so maybe have to get a new one or maybe get a service to see what mine needs.

"Look for MNET or Hapa on Comcast" ----  Did you look for those channels? Maybe these are in my area and not yours.  I don't have Comcast so I can't try it.

Or ---- go to  http://myfolk.tv/  and watch it on your computer.

Rick - I couldn't find "My Folk" TV either?  There are so many channels now, that it's absolutely mind boggling! We have a huge selection, because we subscribe to the Premium Channels on Comcast, (HBO, etc.), plus Amazon Prime, Netflix, and a Sports Channel, so AJ can watch all the Hockey matches, plus  other sports.  We pay a lot, for our monthly Comcast bill, which is a bundle that includes internet and phone.  I used to be able to see the Carol Burnett show, on Antennae TV, but somehow that channel has gotten lost, somewhere in the midst of all the others!  I'm not complaining bout cost, because we are home all the time, (Covid-19 or not), so it's worth it to us.

JeanneP - You have to subscribe to the streaming channels, and pay between $5 and $12 per month, which is deducted from your credit card bill, NOT from your Comcast bill.  I think you would like Netflix, and it would give you a big variety of things to watch.  At our age we might as well spend the money and enjoy ourselves.
Remember the old saying - "You can't take it with you!"

RAMMEL

I can watch on my TV OR on this computer.  Put http://myfolk.tv/  in the address bar and go to it. Click on "Schedule" or "Watch Live" at the top of the page to ---- see the schedule, or watch the show that is now scheduled (playing) at the current time.
