Good Afternoon,

Jean, I'm so sorry to learn that Jason has had to go back to the hospital.

One of Ellen's roommates is from here and has also been home during the pandemic.  Ellen told me last week that they hope to go back "some time after July 4th" but are "playing it by ear". They think the theater situation will be pretty much hopeless for quite a while. Neither one has reached the "Broadway" level and most community theaters have either shut down or moved the 2020 shows, which are already cast, to 2021. I do know that Ellen recently sent some kind of video to a Casting Company with which she is registered. They'll both also have to find new "day jobs" in NYC.

Jackie,  Also troubling that you're still having issues with that leg.  Surely do hope it gets taken care of ASAP (As Soon As Possible).

Marilyne and others,  I remember making a scrapbook of Queen Elizabeth's wedding using pictures from Life magazine.
I missed the Queen's birthday celebration but have been watching various Netflix programs on The Royals and saw a program about Prince Albert on my PBS station last weekend.
The program didn't compare them but it sounded as if he had more success changing things than Prince Phillip has had - possibly because Queen Victoria made Albert a Consort and Phillip has never been awarded that title.

Tome, my sympathies are with you and your family.  My husband passed away very unexpectedly 28 years ago and I remember that the 2 year mark was about when I "came out of the funk".

I have all the genealogy "facts and figures" about both sides of my family and have begun writing "stories" about some of the individuals.  Current project is writing about my mother and her two sisters.  Each had a very different life and I'm enjoying digging through photo albums and other memorabilia.

Good project for these hot and usually windy days.

Callie, thank you for your expression of sympathy.  I have had good days and bad days, but have to give propers to the GriefShare meetings I have been to. Have done two full sessions and we had started a third, when Cov19 hit and shut everything down.  I don't think I could have gotten to where I am now in this process without them.
Oh, yes, I got to Braums yesterday and picked up my dozen tamales! Progress report: 6 down, 6 to go.  Tonight I'm planning on putting some chili on them. Usually steam 3 at a time.  Maybe some melted Mexican 4 Cheese on top! Yee Haw!

Just getting in to see how you all are doing.  Had router problems so Bob got a new one and after quite the ordeal of getting it up and running we are finally back in business!

JACKIE, I am sad to read you continue to have issues with your leg.  I hoped it was much better but it appears it is going to continue to flare up on occasion.  So sorry.

JEAN, sad to read that Jason is back in the hospital again.  My heart just aches for your family.  Continued positive thoughts and prayers for you all.

TOME, loosing your spouse has to be so difficult to adjust to, but it sure is nice that you feel the support group helped you out.  I am just sorry Covid interrupted your being able to get together with the group 🦋. Happy you got to Braun's for your tamales. Enjoy.

CALLIE, I am so glad that Ellen was able to spend time at home during this Covid time when she can not find work.  Nice that her friend was able to come spend time with her.

I have to admit I was in a real funk over the weekend.....just so much sadness and angriness going on all around.  Yesterday I got out to the store to do some real grocery shopping and it did me a world of good to just get out of the house and do something a bit more normal.  I was somewhat like a vacuum cleaner though.....I was buying everything in sight😘  The hard part was when I got home and had to put it all away.  Some meat packages had to be split up, etc.

I made a potato salad this morning and now Bob is cooking bone in chicken thighs in the air fryer.  Sure is smelling yummy!  Tonight the food truck is in our community but we just did not like the menu, so decided not to partake.

I wish you all a good night.

It was so quiet in here yesterday, then i go to bed ( UK time ) wake up 4.30 am and see that all our N's B & Tacklers have posted whilst i was asleep...Well i am up, back at the computer, just about to put the kettle on, start the day all over again..

Tomereader..
..yes these special to us dates that we once looked forwards to and enjoyed that now fill us with so much unhappiness that we have to get through one way or another...Yesterday was a hard day for you, i understand now myself how it affects us as i have gone through these days myself over the last year..the anniversaries, the birthdays..they say " time is a great healer " but i am not so sure that it is...sending a (( hug )) to you for yesterday...As for me, my once cosy, organised, predictable life will never ever be the same, it is now in the past and i am not wanting nor welcoming a new - different future..i just want my old- my previous future back, but i cant have it..
I do hope counselling - grief share, helps you but i know that it wont help me..my loss of Richard, my PP-MS..My philosophy has always been, " we do what it takes to survive " and " it is survival of the fittest " well it has gotten us this far in life, hasn't it, so we must be doing something right, someone is guiding us in the right direction..I am, and have now been, placing my trust in our God to sort me out..

FlaJean ( Jean )
...we just want to see these numbers going down, not the other way..Like you, my days just drag, i keep reflecting back to the days i would be offered to go hear or there in the car, and the days i turned those hear and there trips down because back then my - our lives were full of those trips to hear and there, never seeing these days coming to an end of course, illness-deaths-getting older..but this day reaches us far sooner than expected..so many precious wasted days in the past that we shall never get back again..a hard lesson learned and too late to rectify..

Sue..
.. a memorial day when our Queen was crowned, who would have expected her to be " the worlds longest reining monarch " at 68 years on the throne..she is so respected..

Marilyne..
.. it makes me feel good that my American friends here on S & F's are also proud of our UK queen Elizabeth, and have so much respect for her..

FlaJean..
.. it always saddens me seeing trees being cut down or trimmed, of course for safety sake they need looking after but when a tree that has been standing for many years gets chopped down just saddens and angers me..you can tell how much i love trees..plus trees purify our air..

Marilyne..
.. my Doctor is not sending anyone out to check on my leg, this was done over the phone without actually sending anyone to take a look at my leg..My camera for some strange reason i cant download my photos on the computer, i could but not now it isn't doing so, so cant send a photo to her at the surgery, she did ask me if i could send a photo but told her i cant..

Callie..
..you can see the Queens celebration on youtube but it was very empty and bare in her large courtyard..

Jennie..
..yes watching-listening to our news on the tv, and knowing of all the craziness and anger that is going on in our world, is now a no-no for me, i try my best to avoid watching-hearing about it..dont they realise that life is too precious and we should be living in peace, harmony and tranquillity, not anger and disruption..

FlaJean..
..sorry to hear your Jason is back in hospital..

...well i am the only member here in our forum, i am assuming you are now all tucked up in your beds but, for me, time here in UK is now 7.am...It gets mighty lonely in here all by myself...Bubble should be the next one to join me..

A good Wednesday HELLO to ALL.

JACKIE, it is echoing something terrible here in the Bait and Tackle.   I hope someone else will come in and at least say hello to us 😘😛. Any new possible buyers for your home?

It is going to be another HOT one today.  Yesterday we broke another record.  It is too early to be this hot already.  Tomorrow it is to cool down quite a bit....

Guess that is all......three squirrels are chasing each other around like crazy on the deck.....

Enjoy the rest of your day.

GOOD morning to Jackie and Jenny!  So far not busy in here today, but yesterday, quite a few members came into this folder and posted a message.  We're still missing a few of the old regulars,  but I'm hoping they will return soon.

Jackie - Yes, most American women have great admiration for Queen Elizabeth.  It's a pleasure to have followed her reign over the years.  She is a dedicated and classy woman, and I know you and your whole country are proud of her.

Here's hoping your leg is better today?  About time somebody cam to your house and took a look, but I understand how hard it is to see a health care worker, at this never-ending siege of Coronavirus.    Just when we thought it was starting to level off and the hospitals were not receiving any new patients, we have had a new surge of cases.  The medical community here, thinks it will be an up and down situation, until a vaccine is available.

Jenny - I was thinking of buying one of those Air Fryers, for my three "girls" . . . my  two daughters, as well as my dil.  What do you use it for, besides chicken?  I'm trying to decide on either the Air Fryer,  or the Instapot,  for my dil's birthday in August.
How is Colorado doing, as far as new Covid-19 cases are concerned?  Are people still sheltering in place?  I think that lots of the protest gatherings last week, have caused a big uptick in cases here.  Also, once the restaurants and stores opened, there was a sudden flood of people.  Masks are required in most places, but many people don't adhere to the rule.

Callie -  I feel so bad for Miss Ellen, and other young people who were doing well getting work in NYC.  She was so enthusiastic, and had lots of opportunities ahead.  No one seems to know when "Broadway" and other theater venues will be open?  Same here in California, as far as live theater is concerned.

Jean - I've been thinking about Jason this morning, and hoping that he has had the blood transfusion?  I've been wondering if he has any brothers or sisters? Please keep us posted on how he is doing.

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Jackie, thanks for the YouTube suggestion to see the Queen's Birthday.  I forget about things being available that way now.
Re: time difference.    I called my mother when the family got to London at the end of a European tour. She asked if we were going to be home that day and was surprised when I told her we weren't going to make it that soon. It was 6:00 p.m. in London and noon in Oklahoma.

Jenny,  Ellen's friend wasn't visiting. Her family lives here and they've been good friends since they began college together.  P. had stayed in NYC but decided to come home for a while.

Marilyne, the young theater wanna-bes in NYC have a great "networking" system for possible work, housing, etc.  I think it's wonderful how supportive they are of each other.

("Brag Alert"  :D)  I got the last can of Lysol Disinfectant Spray on the shelf at Walgreens this morning. :happydance:
Neither sons nor I had found it anywhere for the past several week.

Need to get some "Thinking of You" cards ready to send to various friends who either don't have a computer or don't look at it very often.

Vanilla-Jackie

Well up to face another " groundhog day.." time now is 5.20 am ( UK ) already been up a good half hour, back at the computer with my first mug of tea of the day..

Vanilla-Jackie

Primary Care nurse not long left...I made an early morning phone call to my GP surgery who sent her to my home...She checked my leg over, was concerned of the fluid build-up, she was not too concerned over the look of my red leg, even though i told her it changes and she is not seeing it at its worst at the moment..so not exactly saying it was still Cellulitis but did take some blood which she said tomorrow will show if i do have infection, as she did not want at this point to administer another course of anti-biotics for the sake of it..she done other medical checks on me, took my temperature etc etc..and told me to continue with the water tablets otherwise the swelling will get higher and higher, and i know just what that would mean, would come to my heart and kill me..

Tomereader1

Take care, Jackie.  I'm thinking good thoughts for you!

Oh Amy - Thank you for bringing us that sad news.  She brought so much hope to  all the men serving in the military during World WarII, from Britain, Canada and the United States.  I remember hearing her sing this song on the radio, even though I was just a little girl. Maybe your Dad was in this large group of soldiers, singing along with her?

Marilyne, thank you for the site. When there was a Hasty P reunion   the men would come back to our house...after a liquid diet with the rest of the others  at the reunion. Mom would make sure the men had something in their stomachs before they went home..we would make over 100  pot pies plus the rest of the fixings to go along with them. LOTS of coffee too.

A sunny and warm day so far.  Today is my 6 month visit with my ophthalmologist.  Today is my visual field test.

Good news from the Supreme Court on the DACA ruling.  I know there are many young Americans that are relieved—-at least for now.

Our neighbor and Larry often get each other's mail as the boxes are next to each other.  He called yesterday and said a friend has COVID-19 and they should take extra precaution.  Larry was glad he let us know.  I saw on the county chart we had 7 new cases since yesterday.  People are not taking this pandemic as seriously as they should.

Well, must go and get a few things done.  Have a good day everyone.

Sorry to hear about Vera lynn Passing. What a life she had. 103 and still kept going . I think she had a concert when in her 90s. she and Churchill. Two of the people that seem to keep us going during the war.
If this health mess was not happening right now. I can just see what the older people in UK would be out doing in remembering. Sad to think that there will be no funeral for her. Hope something like a memorial will be held.

Jackie. Now have them really keeping a check on your legs. My mother had such problems from about age68. I wasn't there all the time but now hers was known as Thromboses. Something like that. Her legs would swell just double. Now did have a good family doctor who would let me know what was going on. I remember that she would go into the hospital about every 3 -4 months and they would draw water off them. She got Angina and that is what she passed from.
One thing I really watch are my legs. Have a good Vascular Dr. and 4 years ago  did things to my legs by changing the blood flow and he says now will be no Varicose vein problems which were part of moms problems from being young. its the main things I keep good check on.
Be good when you can move so that you are closer to health Dept. Not that right now would do much good. My Eye doctor and ENT  have cancelled my appt. twice since this mess started. Still can't get to them. Many Dr. here are either retiring or dying this past 4 months.

.. strange you are saying that, as i can reflect on my my mothers mom, my gran, who i lived with with my parents who died at home at age 81 when i was 11 years old... Of course at that young and innocent age i asked my parents " what did nan ( gran ) die of " only to be told " of old age " but i do very much remember she always had elastic bandages around both her legs for as long as i remember, seemed like forever.....i also remember she often put a powder from a round tin called " Fullers Earth " on her legs, never did know what that was, nor what it was for...Now 50 plus years later, i too am suffering with my legs...history repeating itself..

Good morning, Bait and Tacklers looking in today.  I hope all are feeling well and have a nice day planned.  I am planning a 3 block walk downhill and back up shortly.  I try to get outside every day for a walk.  I don't see many people walking which is a good thing as we have corona virus at our local hospital.  I'm hoping that it will soon be gone.  Have a nice day Every Buddy.

Good Morning to all who look into this folder!

Sue -  Nice to see you checking in with us today.  I admire you for continuing your daily walk, even though you fell down last month.  Have you considered carrying a cane for balance, in case you feel unsteady?

JeanneP and Jackie -  I  hope that a memorial service will be held in the future, for Vera Lynn.  She helped a lot, to keep up the morale of the country, during the War years.  I listened to her songs yesterday, and felt a wave of nostalgia, with each one.  Like most other people,  "We'll Meet Again",  is my favorite, but I also love to hear her sing,  "White Cliffs of Dover".

Jackie -  I hope your leg is feeling much better today, and is on the way to complete healing?  When I saw your mention of  Fuller's Earth, it sounded familiar, so I looked it up on Google, and recognized the pictures of the container.  I know we had some in our household as well, when I was a child, but I can't remember seeing anyone using it?

Jean -  I've seen on the news, that Florida has had a big surge of new C-virus cases.  Same here in California.  Our Governor Newsom, announced yesterday, that masks are now mandatory, and will be required everywhere.  Also, he has delayed opening of businesses like hair and nail salons,  barber shops, and State and County Parks.  I don't think he will be able to enforce the mask requirement, as many people refuse to wear one.

Callie -  Lots of excitement going on in Tulsa this weekend!  I hope the protests don't get out of hand, as they often seem to do of late.  :(

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Marilyne,  yes, Tulsa will be in the news this weekend for several reasons. People began camping out along the sidewalk into the BOK Convention Center last Monday so they would be first in line to get into the...what's it called?...the Rally. Every OKC station has had a "reporter on the scene" since last weekend.

Thought this might change the subject from The Virus.  All local news begins with the latest update.  One even apologized yesterday for not starting off with the report because the reporting source had some kind of computer glitch.  We had to wait until the end of the newscast to find out how many new cases/hospitalization/recoveries/age statistics/etc./ ad infinitum there had been in the past 24 hours  ::) . Gee, could hardly sit through the rest of the broadcast.  Not!

My flower beds got a double watering this morning.  I turned on the little sprinklers for 15 minutes when I got up.  About 11:00 a.m., we had a 15-20 minutes downpour!  Fortunately - just rain - no wind or lightning.  It's still dark enough to need the lights on and still raining off and on.  I'm beginning to heard thunder thumps in the distance.

#2 son/dil were taking part in a Neighborhood Garage Sale today and tomorrow.  Shortly after the rain began I texted him that I hoped they had a tarp to cover their sales items.  He replied that they were already almost sold out. Guess people were looking for something to do.

I've been working on the Family History story project.  Have some more pictures to scan.

Later, Taters..

Denver

A Good Friday HELLO to ALL.  The temperature has dropped nearly twenty degrees the last couple of days and we are to have rain today, but so far just a couple of sprinkles.

MARILYNE, I have cooked different things in the Air Fryer and continue to see articles that show you can cook just about anything in it as it is basically just a small oven.  It is good for two people, size wise, but for a family it takes more than one batch to get enough.  I have to tell you that I think it would be a good gift for your family.  It like other new things just takes some trial and error to see what works and how long something will take to cook.
As to your Covid question....thing continue to open up here.  Bars and exercise places have opened as well as pools.  Dog parks opened today.  Our numbers are down and we will see if they can remain there🙏🙏! Streets are being closed to make room for open seating on weekends to help out the restaurants. All places require masks to enter and most people keep them on, but there are always going to be the few that have to show their anger over doing so😩

JACKIE, so glad to read a nurse has been to visit you.  I seem to remember that many older women seemed to have leg swelling issues when I was a small girl. They always seemed to have the heavier stockings on, not just normal nylons.  The way some of the nylons we used to wear cut off your circulation I am not surprised that we do not have more leg issues these days than we do.  Ihope you will get a good report on the blood work and there is no more infection.

JEAN, there was a LOT of celebrating here in Denver last night over the Supreme Courts ruling on DACA.  There is a large population of undocumented individuals here in Colorado. The protesters continue to march daily here and for the most part they are not being destructive, for which I am thankful.  The best part is they seem to be wearing masks now👍

AMY, it was big news yesterday regarding the passing of Vera Lynn.  I did not realize she was still living.  What a wonderful lady for all she did for the moral of the troops🙏.

We got to see Jonah and his parents yesterday......my goodness that boy is getting so big.  He is so active, as all 18 month olds are and is he ever trimming down.  He has a boy haircut that his mama gave him and it made him look so much older.  We met in a little park and his mom went over to a little Mexican Restaurant and picked up some carry out for us to eat.  It was their Father's Day Celebration for Bob.

The dryer is calling my name......enjoy the rest of your day.

FlaJean

Marilyne, yes I've been reading that Florida was headed for a large increase of COVID-19 here in Florida.  I checked today and we are up to 391 cases.  The worse increase is in heavily populated south Florida, I understand.  I had my ophthalmologist visit yesterday and I noticed that most patients were wearing masks, including me.  But the employees were not wearing masks.

Today was a lovely day.  Of course, I've just been doing mostly nothing.  I washed a load of clothes and baked a loaf of bread.  After the bread cooled I cut a couple of slices and had a mayo, tomato and lettuce sandwich.  It was so good!  My husband had pizza.  I'm not too fond of pizza and Larry is not fond of loaf bread so we each did our own lunch but ate together.  We had a big breakfast late so neither of was very hungry.

Jackie, I hope your legs improve.  I have awful varicose veins in my feet and lower legs and each morning i get up with a burning sensation which usually goes away after I walk around some.

Jenny, I'm so glad you and hubby were able to visit with your son and family.  These little ones grow up so fast.

Sue, do you carry a walking stick?  I never leave the house without my iPhone.  Larry and I are together most of the time but we always have that phone with us.

Have a good day everyone.

SCFSue

Jean, I don't carry a walking stick when I'm going down hill, but it would probably be a good thing to do.  I am afraid of falling and have fallen several times.  I have noticed that I am the only person who is walking most days.  I am walking downhill for 3 blocks and then back up the hill.  I usually see a gentleman who does not live in my neighborhood but he always walks on the other side where I am not walking.

FlaJean. Now were you in Senior Net when we had the Bread making Forum on. ? Where about 10 of us that made bread. We went to the Bread Machines so it was fun trying all kinds of bread. The Blarney One my favourite. Never failed.
I don't make many now. just the Irish Soda one in the oven if I run out and its Winter. Reason one was that as soon as it came out of Machine I did just what they let me do growing up. (Grandma baked twice a week.) I was allowed to cut off the Heel. Smother in butter as it still hot) . They always wanted me to get bigger back then. This can did that when as I got older I was still doing. Bread puts on fast. But so good. Be doing it when the summer tomatoes come. Love those sandwiches. No Mayo though. Cn't stand that.
Was reading about how many in Florida. Texas is worse. This thing must really spread fast. Today here in the paper it showing how mad  they are with one Senior place. Back in Memorial day they let one  family take out a senior lady so could attend a party at a house. Now the other day 27 more people tested Neg for the Virus in the Nursing home. Some staff and some patents. Most of them in there have Alzheimer.
So they are saying  that the one lady brought it back to the hospital as she was Positive. Health Dept so mad
Sound like thunder I hear. They have been saying storms since yesterday. So off the Computer for me.   Now it is black as night out at 5:30.

 Have a nice Sunday all.

Talking of bread, I remember seeing a bread machine in our house some years ago but not sure who used it, my mother or my father but i do remember the bar being stuck in the middle of the bread, leaving a gaping large hole right in the centre of the loaf which did not look so nice..I always thought this should not happen, maybe they were doing something wrong with the bread making machine..

I am not sure whether bread dough was made from scratch, to be honest i thnk it was bought already made up in a packet but not certain...

I made bread when at school in our " domestic science " hut once, we had to make it from scratch leaving it with the fresh yeast in for a week in the airing cupboard to rise, the bread turned out well in its bowl, and we proudly carried our containers home to our parents..

Happy Father's Day, to all father's looking in.  Also, to all of our father's who are now gone, but still remembered and loved.

Two of our three kids, will come over today to wish AJ, a happy day.   Unfortunately, they won't stay long, thanks to the on-going coronavirus.   Everybody still in masks and social-distancing here.  I know they are all bringing food, so that will make it easy for us, the next couple of days.  Sandy made a Tomato Pie, for us, that I'm anxious to taste.  I've looked up the many recipes online, but never had all the ingredients to make one, so that will be a treat.

Jean - I dreamed about you last night!   Of course I can't remember the dream now,  except that it was a pleasant one.  When I was a young woman, I used to dream vivid, detailed dreams, and I kept a notebook where I would write down as much as I could remember.   Now,  I can briefly recall a few things when I first wake up, but then it's gone.

Jenny - Thanks for recommending the air fryer.  I'll start by looking at Amazon, but since I'm not familiar with size and other details, I'll be more comfortable looking at them before I buy.  Fortunately, I'm not in a hurry, as my dil's birthday isn't until August.

Jackie - Here's hoping your leg is healing and you're feeling much better.   I'm not a bread maker either.   I've tried it a couple of t times in the past, and it was okay, but not worth the hassle.   As long as I can still go into a bakery, or order what I want, that suits me fine.   We have a couple of nice bakeries here in town, and they do a much better job, than I could ever do!

Sue - Hello to you this morning!  Be sure to get yourself a walking cane!

JeanneP - I love mayo, and always have it handy for sandwiches and salads. I couldn't make a potato salad or macaroni salad without mayo!   Same with tuna sandwiches or deviled eggs.

FlaJean

Going to be a hot sunny day here in Northwest Florida.  No company today on Father's Day.  I believe I mentioned that our neighbor was exposed to COVID-19. I haven't been around him but Larry has so we are being extra cautious right now.

Our grandson has been told that the cancer is growing and there is nothing more that can be done.  If anything good happens it will be a miracle.  When Jason went to the hospital this last time, he told his wife that he felt his system was shutting down. He was our first and only grandchild for 8 years and has a special place in my heart.  He was 8 when his younger brother was born and they have always been very close in-spite of the difference in their ages.

I hope all of you have a good day.  I have very happy memories of my father.  I travelled all the way with two small children from Guam to Virginia during an airplane strike to be with him in his last days.  I had to have special permission as it was just a few weeks before our youngest daughter was born.  I've always been glad that I made that effort.  It meant a lot to my mother.  All of us seniors have these life stories to tell, but we very seldom tell them.

Jackie. I just loved having those cooking classes in School. Not had them in years I hear. Over here in US. Seems the never had them. I know my girls didn't and even friends my age says back in their days. They didn't. I still love cooking to this day. Wanted to go to Culinary College at 18 but only could take certain stage for women. I started but quit.

We had the youngest in my area die 2 days ago. Age 37 and he worked for Amazon. Now it makes me feel like I don't want to be ordering on Line anymore. I did get a packet yesterday. Quickly tore the package up. Washing hands right away. i need my special Shampoo but I got on line and saw that the Vitamin  shop here in town have 2 bottle and so I called them and will pick up tomorrow. Just never been in that shop before. They will bring curb or you can go in. May see if any Tech. in Target also to check phone.
Had bad storms last night and so cooler today. think maybe get some walking in.
