Jackie, definitely not. He knew when he could take a lighter tone with me and could get very serious if the situation warranted.
He was a great doctor who looked after 4 generations of my family (that includes my mother after she moved here and my granddaughter when she lived here while in college...."here" being this town, not with me.) I miss him.

Sandy, I agree about being creative with activities...particularly with children. I miss those days now that my Grands are grown.

Since we will be off and running in the morning I just wanted to say..

Patricia - Thinking about you this morning, and hope that you have a pleasant day, in spite of the everything going on around you.  I just realized that your birthday, July 31, is the same day as my lifelong friend, Jeri Ann.  The year is different, however.  She, (and I), were both born in 1934.

:hb3: Patricia.  Hope you have a wonderful day.

Happy Birthday Patricia!

Thanks Amy, Jackie, and Marilyne, Callie, and Tomereader for the birthday thoughts and wishes! They're very appreciated. Marilyne, I recently found out that I share my birthday with Harry Potter and his creator.  Unfortunately, I still have to do things the hard way, as I never inherited his gifts.  🤔

I've been musing on next year, hitting my seventh decade.  I'm having a quiet day, but numerous emails, postal cards, and phone calls have been nice except for the one that awakened me at six AM! I'm surprised that as sleepy I was that I didn't just roll over, lay the cell down, and go back to sleep!

I used to be able to deep clean an apartment in two hours, but that time has passed. I have spent the last few days deep cleaning my apartment. I've done the bath, bedroom, bedroom closet, entryway closet, and spent an entire day with the five-foot by four foot back hallway closet. Today is the right side of the kitchen, including the fridge and then the kitchen's left hand, probably a couple of days later.

I'm lucky that all the kitchen shelves slide out, but there are still the upper ones over the oven and the fridge! I plan on redoing my two cast iron skillets again when I  clean my oven. Using this method was one I found on youtube. Clean any foodstuffs off your skillet, rinse off thoroughly and place in your oven while it goes through its cleaning cycle. Any rust or abrasions powders off. Then reset and go on.

Next, there will be my living room with its office arrangement and multiple shelf units and, finally, my balcony. This is a gift I'm giving myself, as was the decluttering I did some years back. I used to do this twice a year spring and fall, but again "used to" is the operative word. I sound like I'm living an exciting life, but with lockdown, there is no social life. And with my weeble wobble balance, there is no active life.

Tomereader1

I think that all of us have been longing for something beautiful to brighten our spirits...it's been six months since all this Covid stuff began here in the states.
To bring a little (in my case, a LOT) joy, go to YouTube, and play one or all of the videos of the U.K.'s wunderkinds, Torville and Dean, ice dancing to Bolero. The 1984 championship. There are several more of their routines, which are great too, but beauty & perfection are personified in this familiar routine. Takes my breath away, and brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch it.  God-given talent.
Jackie, did you ever get to see them skate in person?

angelface555

You sound like me Tomereader, but I watch old television shows on youtube as well as music, jazz, and blues or classical primarily but also I like the dancing such as World of Dance and classical dance routines. I watch youtube real estate around the world, castles anyone? and travel videos around the world by bus, train, or plane. There is a young couple, Kara and Nate, mid-twenties who spent the four years after their wedding traveling the globe, one hundred countries, and all seven continents. When COVID-19 brought them home, they purchased and refitted a van and are discovering the US mile by mile, bringing all of us along with them.

And now to search Torville and Dean, ice dancing to Bolero. Edit; Tomereader, I watched and like you was moved. I kept thinking of swans during parts of their performance!

Vanilla-Jackie

Tomereader in answer to your question...no, a missed opportunity...same for an outdoor or indoor concert given by Andre Rieu..

Thank you, Jean and Jenny!

Two types of music I enjoy is Barbershop and Acapella. Two of my favorites in the latter group are Voiceplay,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWtd2UEh2hY ,and Homefree,   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgkSmXVTm1o

:hb2: Another Happy Birthday, Patricia! :hb2:  Funny you mention about the cast iron... my father used to take Mother's cast iron down to the monster coal furnace to "de-grease" them ever so often. I've never used the self cleaner on any of my ovens/stoves (I've gone through 3 since living here). I have gas stoves & pretty careful about keeping stuff from running over, but will remember to get out the manual & see if this stove has that feature. When we bought the house it had electric and I told Cas that if he wanted ME to cook, he'd better see how soon he could switch to gas. The house we had before came with gas cook top & electric double ovens (built in)... as did the house we built, yes, gas cook top & electric double ovens! Had an electric stove in a new house we bought in western KS and that ended my ever coping with electric cook tops. Was always burning something because I was used to gas, when you turned it off it was OFF. Anyway, hope you have as nice a birthday as possible considering all the limits the virus had blessed us with.

Guess we are all slowing down with cleaning. I was mopping the kitchen floor about 2:30 this morning. Been a stressful week and kind of sore from kicking myself. Went through the Taco Bell drive thru yesterday as I have done quite a few times lately... know it like the back of my hand but managed to "jump a curb" & sounded like the whole little car was going to fall apart. I did have on some glasses I hadn't worn for quite a while, the new glasses are giving me trouble so picked up the ones I wore most before the new. Still can't imagine why I hit that curb, bothered me all night. It cooled down during the evening so I backed the car out of the garage & gave it a good scrubbing & dried off with a chamois. Couldn't see any damage (other than my pride). I got to scrub the floor again this morning when Tommy came through to tell me he didn't feel good & barffed all over. He is looking so skinny I am worried about him, but promised myself that I will take them to a vet only to be put to sleep. Since they are free to roam I can't control what happens to them, but I don't want them to suffer, not ever. Would be so much easier to make them stay inside but they were born free.

I'm another that loves watching the dancing & ice dancing. Some of my happiest memories/days.

Tomereader1

angelface, if you love A Capella, have you heard of "Pentatonix", a youthful group that makes music sound like they have a small orchestra behind them.  The have done TV Specials, especially at Christmas time. Love 'em!

angelface555

I first saw them some time back on the online  Sing-Off where coincidently, I saw all three acapella groups beginnings.

However, while good, personally I like Voiceplay and Home Free more than Pentatonix. Each group has a different style.

I have all three homepages in my YouTube Music listings.

What did you think of Home Free and Voice Play?

Beverly

Happy Birthday Patricia! :hb2:

Tomereader1

I liked Voiceplay better than the other one.  Still prefer Pentatonix.  Post a good Barbershop group please.

Beverly

Sandy - Adorable picture of Fe. She would love going to a butterfly garden such as the one we have north of here.

Donna and Mike are leaving for Vermont in the morning. They stopped over this evening. They have a lot of work to do, clearing out their house and garage so they can put it on the market. It's a large 2-story on 4 acres. They shouldn't have a problem as the housing market is good up there right now, mostly because of people from the cities getting away.

Marilyne, MarsGal, Jackie and Sandy. Thank you for sharing your problems. There are times when l feel like I'm all alone in this. The NTM, bronchiectasis, etc. have changed my life so much in the past two years. Every day is a struggle.  I try to keep "pity parties" to a minimum.  :)

I have a gas range but I've never used the self-cleaning feature. I find it scary to have that much heat in the oven! I put my cast iron pan on a burner set on high, then oil it when it cools. Works pretty good. It's one that my mother had and is probably as old as I am!

Shirley - Sorry about your mis-hap with the car. Glad it didn't appear to do any damage. I did something similar with a new car we had several years ago and scraped the shiny hub-cap on a corner curb.  As usual with my bloopers, hubby didn't say a word when I got home! :)

I have two Lodge brand cast iron skillets and an electric stove. I haven't used gas since I watched a house burn down on a family in San Antonio, Texas. It scares me.

Here is a youtube video on cleaning in an oven using the self-cleaning cycle.

Good evening.....Friday night and the end to another work week.  These weeks sure seem to flying by quickly.

PATRICIA, I hope you enjoyed YOUR day.  I, too, enjoy a cappella, and the song you shared with us one of my favorites. I also like Voiceplay and Homefree. Barbershop is also enjoyable.  I like all kind of music.

SHIRLEY, I am sorry to read about your little incident with your car.  Happy there was no damage, and I understand it is a issue of pride.

TOMREADER, I love Pentatonix and listen to them often.

BEVERLY, safe travels back to Vermont for Donna and Mike.  I know you look forward to having them there full time.  I do not envy them the work to get ready for the move, but I do envy their getting a place there by you and Chape.

It is time for me to head off to bed.  Pleasant dreams to all.

Still cant believe my weather where i shall soon be moving back to for that week is going to be touching the high 80's almost touching 90's Fahrenheit, so much higher in comparison than where i currently am here in the South which one would expect to have the highest temps, i am not looking forwards to this heat, far to hot for me, so very unusual for this part of UK..
Forecast for the Saturday 8 th will be 31 Celsius compared to 21 Celsius here in the south....

I wrote a post then got a FaceTime call from my daughter in Canada and when I went back to it----gone, of course.😊

There is so much bad news, I've had my head stuck in a book to forget about it for awhile.  Our next door neighbor's son has covid-!9.  He worked at a restaurant and evidently they check their employees regularly.  I don't think he had any symptoms but it takes a few days for the symptoms to show.

My leg has been hurting several days and just took an Advil.  think I will prop up my leg and hope the Advil does its job.  Back to reading.

Hopefully, this pandemic will be a bad memory before many months.

FlaJean..
.. this is what i hate ( and yes i use the word " hate " ) is living in daily pain for the rest of my life, and there is nothing i can do about it, all part and parcel of my debilitating MS...

Sad to hear about your next door neighbours son...very disheartening - discouraging..

Edited to add...where i am soon moving back to the weathers for next weeks Thursday and through to following weeks Wednesday is going to be a very high to us in UK.. building up to 91 Fahrenheit or 33 Celsius.... i am not going to like that one bit, plays havoc with our MS...

Happy August Oneth!

Beverly, Marilyne, Sandy and Jackie, I apologize if my post about swallowing was insensitive to your issues.  I in no way meant to downplay the seriousness of your conditions.

Beverly, you mention YES soups.  I've never heard of them so doubt they are available here.

I am  :tickedoff: at Cox cable today.  Neither of my t.v.s will turn on with the remote.  Both will turn on using the buttons on the set but won't change channels.  The one with Contour will show the channel I was watching when everything went wrong.  The other one, which has basic cable, just has a "fuzzy" screen and shows "no connection".

Tried to call yesterday but was told the wait to talk to a tech would be "more than 5 minutes".  Since I was waiting for a call from my Shipt shopper about grocery delivery, I hung up.

Now I've finished the Domestic Duties, put in my hearing aids and am getting ready to call again and  settle into the recliner with my Tablet to play games and read e-books while I wait to be connected with a tech.  Grrrrrr!

Hope Everyfriend finds something Enjoyable about today.

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Remember when Our Gladys used to come in on the first day of the month and say "White Rabbit 🐇🐇 White Rabbit"?  Such a sweet lady..oh how I miss her and the many special telephone conversations we used to have 😢🦋

It was a delightful morning on our deck with my fountain flowing and helping me to enjoy my coffee😘

JEAN, I am sorry to read you lost your post....I know how annoying that can be.  It happens to me more than I would like to admit.  I hope your leg will feel better after the Advil and propping it up. I feel badly for anyone that gets this awful Covid Virus.

JACKIE, will you have A/C in the building you are moving to, I hope?  If not, hope there are windows for a cross breeze!  I bet you will miss the cooler ocean air that you have around your place.  I know you can see water....I think it is a ocean??  Maybe I am dreaming this😩😩

CALLIE, we have YES soup here, but I have never tried it.

Enjoy your day.

Jenny...
... you got me wondering that i had to do a quick google map check, Dorset is surrounded by the English Channel...part of the Atlantic Ocean..The whole of Dorset's coastline is designated part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site..

I dont recollect a member named Gladys..although maybe her name does ring a bell..

I have with me a couple of floor electric fans..

Update:  I waited out talking to a tech and was connected with a friendly lady who patiently worked with me on both tv sets. Conclusion was that a tech needs to come out to see what's going on.  She scheduled an appointment for Tuesday but put me on Standby for an earlier time.
I don't mind waiting since I can get one channel but will be happy if someone can come sooner.

I remember meeting Gladys at several "Bashes".  She was such fun!  She loved to dance and was first one on the floor if that was included with our farewell dinner.

Looks as if it will be a pleasant evening to sit on the patio and watch the birds and critters.  Saw a squirrel chase a rabbit away from the seeds under the bird feeder the other evening.  Then saw a dove raise its wings,, ruffle its feathers and "charge" at the squirrel.  Nature is amazing.
