Well, this is dandy. I reset Look and Layout so that I am supposed to see latest posts on top, but now it is not working. Also, when I went to modify my post just now, instead of letting me edit the text, it deleted it entirely.

At last i found a charity that was interested in home collecting my sofa but, what a palaver this morning...Got 9.15 am phone-call from furniture-electrical charity my Town, to tell me they would be here in 3 minutes, two young strong men turned up but, oh what trouble getting my very large, wide, long, 7 foot, 3 seater sofa which was left standing floor to ceiling in the corner of my bedroom by removals men...From bedroom to hallway leading to front door was probably the easiest part for them, well wasn't so easy but when they tried to get it out of the front door, a narrow hallway was facing them plus loose polystyrene ceiling tiles with wires showing above, that kept coming loose by my sofa, ( the tiles not the wires ) well the two men had to call for the cavalry to arrive, now there was four young strong men, still it would not fit the door frame, however way they tried...Even our female manageress got involved where there was a locked room opposite to the left with a keep out electricity danger sign, we had to ask if she could unlock it so maybe would allow more room at an angle to get the sofa out, well the men pulled and pushed but no luck, the manageress and myself kept telling them that the removals men got it in, not sure how, no other stairway, so if it got in it will get out the same way......They even suggested cutting the sofa up to dispose of it, or giving up altogether and bringing it back inside my home as time was getting on and they had others to go to, well that got me crying as the sofa was a danger to me being propped up floor to ceiling in the corner of my fair sized bedroom with me in my bed, and me having my MS disability was a no no...Anyway they persevered and no one was happier when a whole hour later it went through the doorway, no other door-staircase wider for it to go down, not even the tiny square lift, not even my mobility scooter will fit in that unless it gets folded, then unfolded as i  get out, another burden for someone like me with MS..Anyway, the 4 guys eventually got the sofa out and down the one flight of stairs...Yes i am sad to see it go, it is a G Plan sofa, good quality piece and so comfortable but just would not fit from the hallway then bend into my living room...At last i can sleep safely not fearing this heavy sofa falling down on the bed when i am in it...This is the sofa my Richards head was placed against, going through a claim, of which someone came yesterday and verified the faded stain from the medics placing the tube down my Richards throat whilst they were trying hard to revive him after throwing his dead body from the armchair onto the floor, a day sadly i shall never ever forget as i witnessed it all as the police ushered me out to sit at the kitchen table looking out of the large window viewing the 3 - 4 ambulance - first responders cars sitting opposite...Oh such is life, we just never know what is waiting to throw our way, nor when it will hit us....

Good morning from north central Florida. I'm sorry I've been absent so long. When I came in here this morning I had to re-register! I'm guessing it's because of the new server change but it felt strange to be an outsider after all these years.  :)

Jackie - I'm glad you were able to get the sofa out. What an ordeal! Years ago we moved from an upstairs apartment and couldn't get a wing-backed sofa out the door at the bottom of the stairs. They had to remove the door casing and replace it. Wonderful that you were able to meet your great-grandson. An easy answer for the little boy....I'm your Daddy's grandmother. My great-grands call me Gigi.

Thinking about Marilyne this morning. Those fires are horrible and the heat must be unbearable, especially since their use of power is restricted.

MarsGal - Were you the one who had goats at one time? If not, do you remember who it was? One of my granddaughters and her husband have become small time farmers.  :)  She now has five goats, 30+ chickens, turkeys, two pigs, etc. and two dogs. Plus two children and she's working from home because of Covid-19.

Another granddaughter just completed hiking the entire Long Trail in Vermont (250 miles) with her husband, 11 year old son and 21 year old stepson. These grands amaze me and often worry me!

Bubble - Glad to see you back. We depend on our computers so much. Has the new update affected you?

Jean - I'm so sorry to hear about Jason and now his family has to deal with the threat of wildfires. So far Florida hasn't had many problems with the hurricanes and we can pray it continues that way. I felt so bad for the people of lower Louisiana.

Jenny - I hope you and Bob are now safely settled in Arizona. You just escaped the snowstorms near Denver.

Denver

Good day to ALL from the desert!  We have not had internet here where we are staying, so I have not been able to post.  I have checked in a few times quickly to see if all is well, but I was not logged in and could not post.  Bob helped me this morning and here I am.

First thing I have to say is it has been great seeing my dad.  Bless his heart, he is so feeble looking that it is heartbreaking, but he has been eating and being so much better when we are with him!  I bought a slice of Lemon Merange Pie and took it to him and he could not wait to eat it, and ate every bite!  It was a very nice large piece....really enough for two people!  He was really smacking his lips!  Sure made me smile.  We got dinner for all at Cracker Barrel and he ate all of his grilled trout and broccoli too, then Hs pie!  Diane was in shock!

Second bit of news is.....we pulled out of our offer for our place we wanted to buy, and I have to say that I am really heartbroken.  The place is better than we could have ever imagined.  It would have been perfect for us. There were many warning signs, but the last straw is the condo group is in a terrible financial place.  It took a bit of digging on our behalf to get a honest answer, but luckily we did find out in time.  The selling agent has been very unresponsive though out our entire dealings with him.  I feel bad for the lady who is selling.  He has been so unfair to her.

It has cooled down here and we actually have the doors open and are airing out this place this morning.....it feels wonderful.

The fires in California are just awful.....absolutely heartbreaking.

Denver had a bad winter storm pass through Monday night late lasting through yesterday.  Thank goodness it was not as bad as they projected, so the snow did not break as many tree branches as they expected but the low temperature pretty much killed everything off.  Sad for the people waiting to harvest their gardens😩😢

I must run.  I hope you all are doing well.

Dear Jackie, thank goodness they were able to get that sofa out of there finally.  I know you are relieved.  maybe those tears made those guys realize how important it was.  I was almost in tears myself just thinking how dangerous it could be for you with it propped up like that.

Another warm day here.  Marilyne my prayers are with you as I watch the Weather Channel and see that devastation from the fires.  We sure do miss your posts and wonder how it is going.  Mother Nature is on a rampage.  The Atlantic Ocean is full of storms brewing.  And yet there are still climate change doubters.

Bubble (to my mind somehow that name doesn't suit you)  Glad you are gaining strength and your computer problems are behind you, at least for now.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this.  I've had so much on my mind i'm getting forgetful.  Anyway on a good note---Larry and I went to Carrabba's Italian Restaurant last Thursday and finally celebrated our 64th wedding anniversary.  We had the most delicious meal of veal picata and linguini with caesar salad and their wonderful bread.  For dessert we had "John Cole" which is ice cream and cinnamon/sugar pecans with caramel syrup dribbled over it.  It was our first meal out in such a long time and we sure did enjoy it.

Marsgal, I hope you have those pesky problems straightened out.  These computers can sometimes drive us crazy, but I use my iPad constantly and it has never given me a minute's problem so far.  Now I better knock on wood!😁

Hope all is well with everyone and I'm going back to reading my book.  I've read at least 75 books these last couple of months.  Just not interested in TV or movies right now, just leave on the Weather Channel so I can see who is calling on the phone (which shows on the TV screen).  Mostly unknown callers which are probably political asking for money.  We don't answer the phone anymore unless we recognize the number or caller.

Have a good day everyone.

Good afternoon to everyone.  Lots of messages here since I last posted, and I'm really happy to see so many!  :)

Things are a little better here, as far as the wildfires are concerned. Still burning, but all are under control, except for the one near Yosemite.  As a result of all the fires, our air quality from the smoke is hard to deal with. It's so thick, that the sun is not visible, so unable to provide any warmth. Our temps  are now in the 60's, which downright cold, after 105 to 110 degree temps last week.

Beverly - good to have you back with us!  I did enjoy looking at the picture in the Photo folder.  The Victory Pose is great!  Please, don't stay away so long this time!  :knuppel2:

Jenny - So sorry that your plans for a place in AZ, have fallen through. :(   I know you were suspicious of the realtor and the way things were being handled, and looks like you were right.  Well, something else will come along, I hope.  I'm glad your Dad, is doing well, for his age, and has not lost his appetite.  Lemon meringue pie is my favorite also.  Now you got me to thinking about, so I'll have to get one to enjoy this weekend!

Jackie - Now that the sofa is finally gone, you can set about getting your apartment arranged the way you will be most comfortable.  I meant to comment on your post a while back, about meeting your great-grandson!   That must have been a happy day for you, and I hope you will see him, and your grandson again soon.

Jean - Yes, the year 2020 has been a bad one for all of us, for many different reasons.  Mother Nature has been especially cruel.    I've been just the opposite from you, in that I am unable to sit and concentrate on a book, but I'm able to sit and watch TV!  I've seen lots of good movies the past couple of weeks, that I will share on the Movies/Television folder.

Tome - Thanks for your concern.  Things seem to be settling down now, but there is more to come.  I think I mentioned in my last post, that the headline in our local paper the other day said . . . "Fire Season hasn't arrived yet!"   This is true! Our fire season is the month of October, so we have a long way to go yet.  :(

MarsGal - I hope you finally got everything set up here the way you want it? Are you still watching the ship webcams?  I haven't yet seen "Paul" this season - my favorite boat.

Hi all.

Yes, Marilyne, I am still watching the cams, but not as closely as usual. I am keeping an eye on CG Hollyhock's progress south. Although they are tasked with helping keep or reopen shipping lanes after the hurricanes, they are making very slow progress. After they got out to the coastal area, they spend close to four days near Newport getting provisioned for the trip. After that they fixed or changed out several buoys while heading down coast. Yesterday they were still docked at NYC, so my guess is that they are picking up or changing out damaged buoys for new. I have to wonder if by the time they get where they are going, they will have anything left to do. I found their Facebook page where someone on the crew has posted several pictures and commentary on their trip, but nothing since the 4th. This is Hollyhock's first trip to southern climes. https://www.facebook.com/USCGCHOLLYHOCK/

I got stung by a wasp last Saturday and am still dealing with the rash and itching. Doc gave me another prescription to deal with it so the itching isn't excruciating like it was Monday and Tuesday.

Good morning,

I will try to get back later, as I am very frustrated right now.

I hope Bubble's computer is working by now. I feel lost when I can't get online!

Joy - I'm sorry your post didn't show up. Could it have happened during the update to a new server? Hope we'll hear from you again soon.

Jean - I'm glad you were able to celebrate your anniversary at Carrabba's. It's one of my favorite places. Sunday will be our first dinner out since March. We're going to the Harbor Hills Restaurant with another couple. They've been there a few times recently and assure us that the set-up is as safe as it can get. They're super careful also because of health problems. It will be great to get out of the house and socialize!

We will never forget 9/11/01 as long as we live.  I would give anything IF Americans would come forth and show how much they love their country the way they did on the day that horrendous catastrophe happened.  The patriotism was a sight to see....America Flags flying everywhere and Candles burning in windows.  🇺🇸🇺🇸 GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸🇺🇸

We enjoyed another wonderful day with my Dad.  He said over and over and showed us how much he enjoyed our visit.  He is so thin and tiny....he has no appetite at all and does not care to at, BUT he sure ate for us.  Diane could not believe her eyes.

We are heading back to Colorado tomorrow.  I would love to stay longer but we have to get home and get our blood work done for our yearly physicals soon.

MARILYNE, we had so many red flags on this possible purchase and it just was not meant to be😢😩  We certainly were blessed to find out the problem before we signed our John Henry and paid 🤑. I have worried so much about you and your family and our friends and family in the Bay Area....the darn fires are just frightening😩 My Dad has no appetite at all and Diane worries so about him, but for what ever reason he was very cooperative while we were there and agreed to nearly every food item we suggested getting for him.....it sure made me smile.  It was wonderful to be with him and I sure hated to have to say goodbye😩😢😢

AMY, thank you for the heads up about BUBBLE being down again....sure hope her computer w8ll be up and running again soon.

JACKIE, we were so lucky to find out the problems before we were locked in....we have to listen to our gut feelings, don't we?

BEVERLY, I will go and look at your picture you shared.  Happy you and Chape are getting to go for dinner...it will feel quite scary for you being out for the first time.  AZ is still quite closed down for indoor eating....drive thru is the only way to get most food.  No lobbies open....it was bad on our way down not to be able to go to the bathrooms.

I have a few more things to pack so best sight off for now.

Pleasant dreams to all.

...re, your wild - fires, it does come on our UK BBC news channel and i shudder when the word " arson " gets mentioned...if so, who in their right mind would get enjoyment out of taking lives, taking peoples livelihood - goods away from them, or worse still, destroying our planet, our trees, wildlife and our pets...All i hope is that whoever starts the " arson " perishes themselves amongst their own doing...as they say " what goes around, comes around "

Good morning everyone!

I just found myself rereading posts from several days ago and realized I never answered your post about the Calamine Lotion, Jackie. I remember that from when I was little. But, what I've been using has benzocaine in it, plus the Prednisone generic which is really helping to keep that awful itching way down to a bare minimum. If this is anything like the hives thing I and several months ago, I expect to see the rash gradually fade away and disappear in another two or three weeks.

Marilyne, CG Hollyhock is sitting south of NYC in between Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay, NJ. I guess they have her crew still stopping to repair buoys on the way down to the south coast area. I really have to wonder where the regular crews along the coast that do this are, and if Hollyhock will ever make it down there before being recalled back to Port Huron because they aren't needed there anymore.

This month George is going to take his annual trip to Virginia Beach with an extra few days to visit Williamsburg. I don't think he found anyone to replace me to feed his cats and check on the house after he gets back, so I guess I am still going to be doing it this winter. My problem is that he knows I won't "abandon" his kitties so he can stall all he wants. I would feel much better, at least, if he has backup in case I can't make it over.

angelface555

Marilyne

It's about 11:00 here, and the sun is trying hard to break through the heavy layer of smoke.  I hope it succeeds, as we need to see the sun.  It will give us hope, that this latest firestorm is almost over.  In the meantime, we will have to stay inside, because the quality of the air is in the Unhealthy to Hazardess range.

Jenny - your visit with your Dad, reminds me of the many long drives I made back and forth to  Southern California, during my Dad's final years. This was in the early '90's, so I was still relatively young and able. I would drive down every four to six weeks, and I remember every time I saw him, he appeared to have grown so much older. It's hard to watch our parents, as they become more and more frail.    I can't help wondering if my three adult kids, feel that way now about AJ and me?  :(   With this Pandemic going on so long, we have seen less of them, and when we do see them, we're all wearing masks.   I'm sure they will be shocked when we remove our masks, after six months!!  :'(

MarsGal - You are so good to George, taking care of his cats the way you do.  I understand that he trusts you, and knows that you will be there in case something should happen, and he can't get back, as planned.  I hope he  reciprocates, so that you can get away somewhere for a short stay?   Having pets is such a responsibility.  These past three years since Winnie died, has been the first time we haven't had pets to consider when we make plans to go anywhere overnight.

Jackie - of all the dozens of fires here in the past month, only one is being called arson - although it wasn't deliberate.   It was a young couple, having a "Gender Reveal" party, to announce whether their expected baby will be a boy or a girl.    They set off some huge pyrotechnic rocket, the was supposed to go way up in the sky, and the sparks would rain down as either pink, or blue.    Because it was windy and dry, the sparks flew off in all directions and started a massive wildfire in Southern California.  The couple has been prosecuted, because it is against the law in California to set off a rocket device anywhere, anytime.

Beverly - I hope you have a nice dinner out, on Sunday night!  That sounds like so much fun.  It's been six months since we have been out to a restaurant for a meal.  In our area, they are open, but only for outside dining.  This presents a problem, because most don't have a patio with outdoor seating.  So they have contrived outdoor seating on the sidewalks, parking lots, and even in the street, where areas have been cleared for tables with umbrellas.    I really don't want to go out that badly, so I'll wait for inside dining! LOL  :D

Beverly

Just checking in before I go to bed. No-one has been here today!

We went to brunch with our friends and had a wonderful time. It was a great mood booster. After we ate we sat on the deck for a while. The view is lovely, overlooking a lake. There were very few people there today.

Jenny - Hope you had a safe trip back to Colorado.

Marilyne - Thinking of you. I'm praying the fires will end soon. I can't imagine what it's like living with the smoke and poor air quality. I heard today that they've arrested a man for arson for starting one of the fires. So tragic and so many lives lost.

Jackie, I am not bright enough in the early morning to attempt to unravel that riddle. ???

I wonder, finally, if I was mistaken about just how far south Hollyhock is to go. I thought she was to go the whole way to Louisiana,  but she is still of the Northeast Coast. In fact, she is now stopped between Rhode Island and Martha's Vineyard. Their Facebook page has been updated and now shows some lovely pictures of Hollyhock at NYC, including a couple showing the Statue of Liberty. https://www.facebook.com/USCGCHOLLYHOCK/

Not much to report these last few days. I did a little shopping yesterday and was surprised to find so many other out at the store too. It usually isn't that busy on a Sunday morning. I am contemplating going over to top off the air in my car's tires. That dog-gone air pressure sensor has lit up again. I didn't think it was that cold last week to set it off; it is so sensitive. I am debating whether or not to go get my hair cut. It is getting much longer than I like it these days. I also need to mow the front yard in a day or two, maybe tomorrow. Thursday starts my annual extra long cat feeding duty. Sue and I are planning to meet for lunch afterwards.

Hope everyone is doing well considering and in spite of this mess of problems we find ourselves in these days.

FlaJean

Marilyne, I was just looking at the Weather Channel and it showed the wildfires still raging in CA, OR and Washington states.  so sad to see the devastation.

We are watching Hurricane Sally which is heading for Miss.  Now the news say it will be a CAT 2 or 3.  The Gulf waters are about 90°.  For the first time in recorded weather history there are 5 named storms in the Atlantic at the same time according to the Weather Person.  Scary!

Beverly, Glad you were able to get out and enjoy yourself.  I wonder if life will ever be "normal" again.

It is an overcast day and rain off and on.  A good day for reading and I think I will go finish my book.

Have a good day everyone.

We are home from Arizona safe and sound.

The first day was going great and we were moving along great UNTIL WE WERE NOT.  There was a 2 1/2 hour back up on I 40.  By the time we sat through that we both we much too spent to make the drive on to Santa Fe, so spent the night in Albuquerque.  When we got ready to leave Bob could not get his iPhone to boot up.  He worked on it and worked on it and it would only show the Apple sight and that is it.  When we got home I came in and Smokey was so very happy to see us.  Brought in a few things then sat down in my recliner to get some kitty love and fell asleep for nearly 3 hours.  Guess I was tired huh?

Bob tried two different places today to see if he could get his phone up and running to no avail.  The Apple Store said the logic circuit board is fried!  GREAT! He is trying to get his old phone up and running, but it is not yet!

It is always good to be home, but I have to admit this whole ordeal over the home we hoped to buy falling through nearly did me in.  I would have been so happy with that place.....

We are watching the Broncos/Titians Game and I can hardly keep my eyes open.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Don, have not seen you around for a long time, how are you doing?

Jenny, I missed your post over in Soda Shoppe & couldn't get the old page to show so came here to see how the trip was getting home. Kinda bumpy, huh?  Glad you are home but bet your father hated to see you leave. Stay safe, hope the smoke isn't too bad. Sorry about Bob's phone, I have a real dislike for my cell, it hates me & I just keep it turned off!  :knuppel2:  So there!!

Good morning everyone. I made it back under a new alias. Otherwise, it's still raining here, the trees have turned colors, leaves are falling, and Farrah turned eight on the twelfth.

Marilyne

Good morning to everyone who posts here, as well as those looking in and reading.

Don - So good to see your message! I'm also one of the "old timers" from SeniorNet.  Please come back and tell us more about what is going on in your life?   Also, find Rammel, and tell him we miss him, and wish he would post here, and in other folders.

Jenny - Glad you're back home, safe and sound, after your extra long drive home.   We have those terrible back ups on our Interstates here, as well, and we never find out what causes them?  Usually ends up being a big-rig truck issue of some sort.   Did you say your grandchildren are going to regular school?   The kids here in CA, are still having online learning.  :(

Shirley - Good to see you here, and also in the Photo folder.  I very much enjoy seeing your pictures there.  I'm also one who hates my cell phone/smart phone. I know how to use it - I just don't like to!

Jackie - I'm not good at solving riddles anymore either.  In fact I never was, even in my younger days when my mind was sharp!

Jean - I think about you and Larry, whenever I turn on the news and see Hurricane Sally, raging around Florida.  Please keep up posted on how you are doing, and if you have had any fallout from these terrible storms?
