No Jane..haven't got my flu shot yet..have Dr appt in October..so will get it then...I'm sure my Dr will push getting the covid when it's available..but not wanting to get that..in my opinion not enough time researching it.so will wait on that one

maryz

We're scheduled for our flu shots on 12 October, and will definitely get one then. I'll get a COVID 19 vaccination, too, when one is approved and thoroughly tested.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

The dr. that came Monday was the podiatrist who clipped our nails and examined our feet, but not much else. She said the flu shots hadn't come in yet but that we would be getting them as soon as they came in. I hope it is soon.

I definitely want to be sure the covid vaccine is good before I get it. However one of our associates here got Covid and exposed 40 residents including our neighbors. I wouldn't have known except that some of their mail was put in our box. They seem like nice people and suggested we eat at the main clubhouse some night. Of course not at the same table.

I went over and got the mail and returned books and got some new ones. I also made an appt to get my hair cut 10/7.  $34 here, but don't know how she'll do, but since most everyone here gets it done there and I don't go anywhere, I guess it doesn't matter that much.

I'm having another late night, but about ready to try to go to bed and hopefully sleep. Cleaning girl comes tomorrow, so I have to get up by 8:30. I never know for sure when she's coming, but feel I have to be up and ready. 9:00 is my usual time to get up.

Jocelyne called today and caught me up on the little guys. The little one, Liam, will be 3 on 10/4! His brother is 5.5. I haven't seen them for a year and a half, but with Covid, our family gatherings were cancelled.

Have a good day and stay safe. Sharon

jane

Morning, Sharon, and our other dear Buddies!  Another nice day here.  I'm sure you're wondering about the exciting road work on the state highway in front of my house.  ;D  The milling is done and now they're laying the asphalt.  I walked to town and at one part, there were 7-8 dump trucks lined up and a bunch of guys talking across the street.  I said to construction guy near me...truck conference?  Yes, he said with a big smile...safety meeting.  We both laughed.  He said they could be putting that down in front of my house by tomorrow morning and want 3 hours for it to "cure"...so I parked my car across the street on a sice street headed the other way so I can by pass my street and still get out of town to the doctor's for tomorrow's 10:00 visit.

And that's the excitement from Iowa.  I did stop in the coffee shop and chatted with two former knitters I know.
 It was a nice change.

Take care and stay safe!

jane

Cottoncandy

Hello...everybody must be busy today..not much chatting....it's warmed up here..but cooler at night...not much going on with me...just popped in to say hi

jane

Hi, Darlene...good to see you posting.

I got out early and to Dbq for my doc appt.  I stopped at the dealership to see if a new battery would solve my fob problem.  That's the fob I washed in my jeans pocket. He said it's about $325 to replace it, because it has to be programmed, etc.  But, he said let's try a battery first.  He opened the fob and showed me the circuit board and there was corrosion there...but he offered to try to remove that, sprayed it with some stuff and put it back together again.  Total cost "$7.00 for the battery."  I slipped a tip under his work mat and came home and it works!! Hurrah.

I got in and out of the dermatologist office in record time.  That's one thing the Covid thing has done here...only want you there 10 minutes before appt, go through a screening, saw the doc and was back in my car and on the way out at 10:19 am.  I was home by noon.

They're laying the asphalt now in front of the house.  The smell is awful as is the dust and vibrations of the big roller machines.  I think they'll be finished by tomorrow.  HURRAH!!

I cancelled my hair cut for tomorrow.  I don't want to be dodging asphalt trucks and roller trucks and big trucks bring the asphalt that the layer truck puts down, etc.

It looks like rain and there were a few drops on the windshield as I headed out of town this morning, but nothing since...just cloudy and kind of gloomy.

Our numbers jumped by 27 here in the County where my town is the county seat and largest town...5,000 people.

Take care and stay safe.

jane

jane, Hooray! for the key fob battery - an unexpected fix. And kudos to the guy at the dealership!

Darlene, glad you're at least getting some cooler nights - always a good thing in Texas.

It's been a gray, rainy day here - the remnants in the path of Storm Beta. There is more rain south of us, and almost none to the NW of us. Very, very quiet around here otherwise.

Happy and Healthy weekend to all our Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Good beautiful morning...esp. if you like the smell of hot asphalt everywhere.  UGH.

Mary...I think it was the "stuff" he sprayed on the little circuit board and scraped off the corrosion that did the trick...along with a new battery.  He said he had an elderly couple (did he realize he was also talking to someone others would also call "elderly"...I hate that word! ;D  ) who had apparently lost the fob for their Honda hybrid.  Cost for a new one $500!  He even called Honda for a better price for them.  NOPE.  So, he said the dealership gave them a "discount" as they were horrified at that price.

My neighbor I go out with on Friday night didn't seem to realize what was happening out front...though he'd come in 10 minutes before from "coffee with the other old geezers" and so was at the end of his drive, next to my yard and the asphalt laying gizmo was right in front of his drive.  The guys kept waving and saying NO, NO...and he finally drove across my front walk and part of the yard to get to my driveway...and then tried to go the wrong way on the one lane open...again, lots of NO, NO and waving of arms.  WHY he didn't park on the side street when he came home from coffee I have no idea.

AND, I've walked so that's the excitement from this part of the world.  One guy said they'd finish today, another said two weeks and another said today or tomorrow.  So...who knows!! :uglystupid2:  :coolsmiley:

Stay safe!!

Hi Gals. I guess we all are trying to find something to do and not finding much interesting--at least in my case. The cleaning woman who was to come Wed and didn't came today. I cleaned the vanities and toilets, and dusted yesterday and she did the tub and showers, stripped the bed, made it up, and vacuumed, and shined my stainless steel appliances. So everything is done but mopping--which I may or may not get to.

We ate at the main dining room last night and I was able to eat my soup with my new spoon without problem.

Jane, it was good you talked to the workmen a couple days ago to get a heads up on the asphalt so you could park on the side. Your neighbor certainly wasn't as smart. I agree about dr's appts being much faster these days. My next neuro appt will be virtual.

Darlene, glad the nights are cool at least. I have never been to TX except for the Dallas/FW airport to change planes, so can only imagine the hot dry heat. I have been to AZ and NM and experienced their heat.

It's rainy and low 70's (I think) here.

Hi to Mary, Marilyn, Jeanne, & Alpiner.
Stay safe.  Sharon

jane

Good Morning.  It appears I got a big Win10 update last night, so that's been installed and all is well.

They're now laying asphalt on my neighbor's driveway and the noise and smell of that hot asphalt if horrible.

Last night my neighbors and I went to a neighboring town (15 miles east) to a new brewery there in a building that used to make textiles.  Sewing machines decorate the place.  The food menu was (1) giant pretzel with a variety of cheese and meat toppings or (2) flatbread with a variety of toppings.  They took the pretzel...and I the flatbread with cheese, Canadian bacon and pepperoni.  There was very little Canadian bacon or pepperoni...heavy on cheese.  None of us was impressed.  So we can say we've been to Textiles [and won't be back.]

I need to get out and walk and see how the road work is coming.  It looks like two way traffic which is a huge improvement over the "follow me Pilot Car."

Take care and stay safe,

jane

Marilyn

Thank you Sharon for donating to my friend Carol's  breast cancer site.

jane

Finally a bit of rain this morning....hope it continues all day...we could really use it.

Talked to my 97 yr old SIL...Ray's sister...this morning.  She's so alert...up on all the world events, etc. Also had a call from Ray's cousin in VA and he talked for 45 minutes.  So, I'm all caught up on the news from Ray's family.

Trees are changing and it's finally cooler...64 now and feels so good and clean with the light rain.  I hope it washes all the concrete dust and asphalt smells out of the air.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals. It was supposed to be rainy here today, but the sun is shining brightly and I think we are back into the mid 70's after a couple in the 60's.

Jane, hope the road is all fixed and the smell all gone now. I'm sure it will be nice after it's done. You were really lucky with your key fob! The guy was a jewel that fixed it. No one wants to pay $500 for a key fob. Glad you're caught up on family news.

Marilyn, your friend sounded like she had so much on her plate, I couldn't not donate. Prayers for her too.

Not much happening here. Laundry is all done except for towels which I will do as soon as John carries the basket in for me. Also need to fold them all, but not much else scheduled for today. We're having pizza for dinner, so no work in that and we need to call John's sister. We try to do that every Sunday. She & her husband are in a nursing home in IA for memory loss. He is in really bad shape, but she is still fairly cognizant of what's going on. The home has been really good about protecting them. No cases of Covid. Milly was living in an apt. but was convinced to move into the home during the winter. Then Covid arrived. Don't know if she will move back after it is all over or not. I hope not. She needs the structure and care they give her.

I hope Mary, Jeanne and Alpiner will pop in and bring us up-to-date with their lives.

Stay safe and have a blessed Sunday. Sharon

Crap - just lost my long posting -  clumsy fingers. Abbreviated version:

Lovely weather here, but supposed to cool down about 20* over the upcoming week.

I got to spend an hour with my niece and grandniece this morning - a bit outside the rules, but I did have permission from the Director. And we were outside, properly masked and distanced, with no hugs. Great to talk, though.

Governor is loosening things up for long-term facilities beginning 1 October. We're scheduled for a residents' meeting on Tuesday, and I guess we'll get the new plan then. I assume it'll include new visiting rules and maybe more than one person/table in the dining room. We shall see.

Have a great week, Buddies!

She had a  shop in Texas  shere she slold  nursing supplies, shoes scrubs, bags etc. She  also has some of that she is selling to help her financially. She moved to Oregon a couple of months ago.  https://www.facebook.com/donate/386030962399891/390437831959204/

Evening, Buddies.  I drove to CR today for rheumatology appt.  Still lots of trees and debris along the lawns from the derecho from 5-6 weeks ago.  Nothing new from medical person...see me again in 6 months.  Call is Polymyalgia Rheumatica comes back.

I did stop in the Mall to check out Talbots...found nothing...and 4 Seasons...and this store is closing ...and found a pair of jeans I wanted for winter.  30% off helped, too!  There aren't many stores left in that Mall...Sears, Younkers ,
Victoria's Secret, Pink, and more all gone.

I'm off to Ohio tomorrow and will stop in Indiana overnight.  I'll wave to you, Jeanne as I go by C-U on the interstate!

Take care and stay safe,

Hi Gals, I changed to a size 2 font. Can you read that, Marilyn? The 3 just seemed too big.  I hope your friend comes in. She's going to need a lot of support.

Jane, I hope you have a wonderful trip to Ohio. Are you going early, before the holidays to avoid the weather and traffic? Or will you go again later? I know you will be glad to see all the family.  Sure wish I could see mine. Have a safe trip.

Mary, they are loosening things a little here too, but we're in Independent living, so it wasn't as tight to begin with. Supposed to rain all day today but hasn't started yet.

Darlene, I know you must be enjoying the cooler weather. Hope the wind stops. Good for you getting a walk in. If I make it to the lake once a week, I'm doing well.

Hi to all who haven't posted. Stay safe. Sharon

JeanneP

Will look out for yo Jane. Lot of construction on our part of 74. Fact half of C/U torn up.  Weather dry until Sunday. My internet been own fo 2 weeks .cant get hold of Comcast. Just Robots .

Marilyn

I hope she does as well sherry. Your tupe was pretty small but I did make it out, this ois aldso petty small.

SharonE

Okay, MArilyn. I went back up to a 3 font. It's no fun to have to strain to read something. Hope you're enjoying the beach in Yachats (?) You need the break.  Is Gilbert impacted by the fires?  I feel so sorry for all those people out there. I hear Napa and Sonoma is pretty well burnt down, so guess we'll be drinking NY wines till they are restored--if ever. Altho, our organist at church has family in the area whose house was burned to the ground a couple years ago, but the vines weren't hurt. Not sure why.  The family has built a new house. I hope it wasn't impacted. Since we aren't going to the church in person now, I haven't heard. I still watch the streaming services though till Covid is over and we can find a new church that is closer.

Jane must be on the road. Hope she has a safe drive and good visit.

I signed up to go to a writing group for this afternoon, but I didn't get to sleep till 3:00 again and woke up hurting from A to Z! So I decided not to go and to also change our night to go to the main dining room from tonight to tomorrow. I've just got to get a handle on these sleep problems. I'm up to 10mg of Melatonin and it isn't doing it. The dr said I could take more, but I really don't think that's good. I'm tired when I go to bed and then my mind starts working and I toss and turn and start hurting and just have to get up. John said he heard me moaning off and on after I came to bed. The lack of sleep is bothering my memory too. I've got to find an answer.

Jeanne, so sorry your wi-fi isn't working. I just can't live without it.

Hope everyone is okay. Wish there were more posts. Stay well. Sharon

maryz

Sharon and Marilyn - I use the #4 size font, and then change the font configuration to a darker one. It looks darker and bigger on my computer - hope it does on yours, too.

Sharon, so sorry you're hurting so much. I wish there was something that worked better for you.

Marilyn, I hope the ocean is working for you. I love being around the ocean!

I hope jane is having a good visit in Ohio.

Hi to Jeanne and Darlene, too.

We will be relaxing our visiting rules beginning tomorrow. Family can come for 30 minute visits - on the porch or in the activity room - must be scheduled in advance. Complete with masks and distancing. It'll still be nice to see folks in person - not through a window. More scheduled activities here in the building, too.

Happy Wednesday, Buddies!

I'm in Ohio....and the road construction, esp. between Indianapolis and Columbus was a nightmare.
I'm going to head back home on Sunday, and hope the construction workers are all off and home.

Dreary and rainy and high 50s on the trip.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

jane

And another real fall day here...50s amd gloomy.  My sister is going to go with me to a local Verizon store where I hope I can get my cracked phone face fixed.

Nothing much going on here either.  I'll head home on Sunday, I think.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

So quiet in here - and elsewhere. I know we're still out there, just not doing anything much.

We had an exercise class this morning - and it was good to get moving. It was harder to breathe with the masks on, of course. We were outside last week, but it was much cooler (in the 50s) and breezy this morning. Much too chilly for these Southern flowers. LOL.  It's lovely weather, though, and welcome to me after the long hot summer.  We're supposed to have the podiatrist here today, so I'll get my toenails clipped. TMI, I'm sure. I'll probably get to visit with Margaret for a little bit, too.

Happy Weekend, Buddies!  Stay well!

We got home at 10:30am yesterday. Yachats is only 78 miles up the coast. I walked the trails a lot with Freckles. It was pretty smokey or foggy, haze overcast the whole ti e we where there. We ate  awesome expensive meals.  Keith stayed in the room except for going out to eat. It was OK, I didn't get to do the things I wanted to do. It would have been a better trip if Just Jo and I had gone and left the guys home. WE may do that, Keith has a friend that I could leave him with for a few hours. It would be a 5 hour round trip. She and I may take a trip to Florence up the coast 50 miles away and go to old town there.

I sure messed up my phone by tryin g to delete some messages and ended up deleting all my phone contact. I should have put my glasses on. MY Bad!!!.

Cottoncandy

[Hi Buddies..I use the 5 font..don't know if that's suitable to everyone's eyes..if not let me know...I just got through eating a chef salad for lunch with enough left for supper...we have been having some nice cooler days..but sure summer isn't over yet....Marlyin that sounds lovely ke me...I'm always hitting wrong key on phone or IPad...Mary that's good exercise class is offered..Jane glad you are enjoying family and hope you get your phone fixed..Sharon I take 5mg melatonin..seems to help me sleep...Hi to Jeanne and Joy and any I missed...I was sorry to hear president and First Lady are dealing with the virus....as so many are....stay well and safe/size]

maryz

I'm still here - even if nobody is checking in.  Things about as exciting as usual today.  Margaret came by and brought me two big garbage bags of yarn she got from the house of her recently deceased neighbor-friend. Her kids were cleaning out the house and wanted Margaret to take whatever she wanted. I haven't looked through it yesterday - saving that for tomorrow.

And later I got to Skype with Margaret and Matt - but really with Matt holding athe camera on Alden. He's 5 months old now, and SO cute. He's able to turn over back-to-front, and sometimes can turn back. Such fun to get a chance to see him. Hopefully in person before too much longer.

Stay safe and well, Buddies!

Good Morning every Buddy.I am gradually getting the phone numbers back into my phone. Although right now it is a lot less than I previously had.

All is well here today, air quality is good, I have tken freckles for a walk and the sun is shining.

SharonE

Hi Gals. Sorry I haven't posted for a while, just haven't had any news + I've been reading a lot. I did do my laundry yesterday. I did walk to the lake with J & Bunny yesterday. Our church has opened with lots of limitations, but I will stick with the streaming version until I'm sure it's safe. I was so sorry to hear about the President and first Lady. It sounds like they are progressing well, but this could have a big effect on the election.

Mary, it sounds like you are set for yarn now. How great that you got to Skype or Facetime with Matt and his little one, and Margaret of course. Nice that the exercise program is back up at your place. They have a couple here with video instruction. So far haven't gone. We're going to the New Orleans room tonight to eat.

Marilyn, I'm glad you had a reasonably good time away. I hope you feel you had a break. Sorry about your phone. I've done that with email accidentally, though not my contacts.

Hi Darlene, I had taken 5 mg of Melatonin and it wasn't helping. My Dr raised it to 10 and that didn't help, so I am now on Trazadone, a non-addictive sleeping pill and have slept the past 3 or 4 nights.

Jane, I hope you got your phone fixed and had a good time with your sister. I presume you will get home tonight if you left yesterday. Hope you had a safe drive.

Stay safe everyone. Sharon
