"Swinging on a Star" - Bing Crosby

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
He kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He's got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Everyday you'll meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

Friends are pillars on your porch. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes they lean on you and sometimes it's just enough to know that they are standing by.

Good morning everyone...

Raining out , so inside work today. Maybe THAT job will get done???

Bubble, thank you for the new start page. Humming along with Bing, that is one of my favourite songs. As for Friends  ,that is so true! Our friends are worth their weight in gold  to us.

Patricia, please keep that white stuff falling from the sky your way..I know it is coming this way but don't mind waiting :)

Gloria, hope your eye is better this morning.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe please.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 46º here this morning and only heading for a high of 75 today.  I think Fall has "fallen" upon us!

BUBBLE, I loved the opening for the new Soda Shoppe but I have to tell you, I sing that Bing Crosby song at least once a week!  I love it!  And I started singing it around the house when one of my kid (very young) said "I don't care!" about something.  It took a while but no one ever said "I don't care!" around my house.  (I can't sing but I hope it was because they got the message.)

I got up and got started today!  I have the mattress pad, bottom sheet and pillow cases in the washer with the rest waiting on the bedroom floor to be washed and returned to the bed.  On the agenda for today is still a trip to the Amish store but that's iffy.  There's stuff to do around here before I do that!

There's always something that pokes up it's insistent head and needs to be done first.  And I always cave!

GLORIA, how are your eyes today?  I hope lots better!

I'm off to answer the boinger and feed Mickie and me and then a walk will be in order.  We do have our routine!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Good morning everyone. Was rudely aakened wth the phone ringing this morning at 7 and it was a scam call, went back to bed and fell asleep, Woke at 10 and just having my coffee. The late start I am getting  Yvette will be here before I am even dressed for the day. My eye is fine this morning, thank God for that.  Wish I could remember wha t my eye doc said about that happening, all I do know is it does happen at times.

AMY  would like to be traveling your son's route into Maine. Just imagine the beautiful foliage he will be seeing. By the time he hits Maine it will be over already.

BUBBLE  love your first graphic with the ghosts and pumpkins. Not too long ago I wa tched  the Bells of St. Mary's where Bing Crosby sang  that  song. He was the priest in that movie. Thanks for all your goodies.

Better get a move on and get away from this PC for now

Hav a good day, don't forget your  mask and stay safe.

Good morning from a nippy 39° this morning in the Interior! We had a snow dusting yesterday, but it melted over a warmer night and this morning. I don't know what the day will bring, but I know it will have to do with soap and scrub. I now have my new sheets, pillows, comforter, towels, but didn't think about the old ones. No donations are open; I don't really want to store them or trash them, so that will take some conjuring.

Shirley

I know I've been in & read at least 3 times, thought I left a post but none showing. Must have just thunk I did it....

Had a delightful lunch with a friend "on the other side of town". Found out why half a dozen places carry the same name, our waitress said her father started the first on about 50 years ago and other family members have started their own & just use the same name! The only one I've been to before was nothing like the one today but nice to know "all in the family".

Daughter due in town any time, youngest son says they have plenty to eat so I won't cook until tomorrow, I guess. Everything sort of "on hold" and I do hate things dangling like this. Even the weather can't decide to be warm or cold. :tickedoff:

Bubble, love the graphics and cannot imagine why I remember every word of that tune and can't remember my cell phone number!!!  Thanks... Think I need a walk down to the river, for sure all those phone calls will come while I'm out of the house!

Amy and Jane, as I shopped in my Kroger Store this afternoon, I happened upon the shelf area where they keep the canning jars, and I thought of you two fine ladies.  They had plenty of canning jars, in various sizes, and I wished I was near enough to bring some by your houses.  Anyway, guess the canning season is just about done, and maybe next year, they will have manufactured more jars.

JaneS

Hello Everyfriend!  Sounds like you all had a nice day with friends, family or even by yourselves.  My day evolved and things got done.  I have a lineup ready to go to the post office tomorrow and maybe I'll make another quick stop while I'm out.

I got the bills all paid today and then another one came in the mail.  I suppose that will happen most of the rest of the month.

I'm off to the haystack.  It's all nice and clean and ready for me!  I hope it's also loaded down with zzzzzs!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Denver

Watched the debates and then it was news time, so thought I had best come in and say HELLO before I head off to bed.

We will have a freeze tonight so many have brought their plants in to try to save them.  We did not as our planters are much too big to move around.  The yard men blew out our sprinkler systems today.....winter is coming much sooner than I want it to😩😢

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

Didn't wake up to rain........but we are to have more today. One of these days the rain will need to be shoveled!

Off to the city this morning hubby has CT scan and blood work. Since this Covid  only one is allowed into the hospital so dogs and I will wait in the van and I will sew.

Lloyd , maybe you can catch some zz's later today. Good to read a post from you and I bet both ice cream and home made bread did taste good!

Jenny, we have had our hard freeze.....many times now. Next is the snow .

Tome, you came across a GOLD MINE!! Jars are still in short supply here. One store did get some in and they hardly warmed the floor and were gone.

Shirley,  my comfort zone for temperature is around 70° .Great weather for working in....not too cold or too hot.

Better get going..

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had rain through the night and the temp is 50º right now with an expected high of only 54 for the day!  Fall is upon us but we haven't had a frost yet.  And my Gramma always said "You can't have Indian Summer until after the first frost".  Indian Summer is one of my favorite "seasons"!

TOMEREADER, If I knew where your Kroger is located, I'd have been tempted to jump in the car and drive there to buy jars!  I've been in Kroger stores but I think they were in Texas.  I know there are some closer to where I live but still a hefty drive from here.

My only plan for today is a trip to the post office to mail a couple of packages and to drop my ballot in the mail.  I might try to get a haircut while I'm out but that's secondary.  And I still need to make a trip to the Amish Store but Friday and Saturday are not good days for that.  They are usually busy up the gazoo on those two days.  I'm thinking maybe Tuesday for that.

There goes the boinger and my day begins.  Mickie's breakfast and mine too and then a walk and then...who knows what!

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, going t o start raining soon and will rain for at least 2 days, so the guessers say this morning. After the rain we had the other day we are now only 9" short on rainfall for this year. Would be great if we get more  rain before the ground freezes.

PATRICIA  I am not ready for snow yet. Christmas Eve I would love to see it. This has been  the warmest October I can remember. My AC is s till in the window and several others still have theirs in. Odd t he witch did not tell us they have to be out  by October first. She always sends a reminder to us but not this year.

JANE  i t is only my right eye that gets blured  with that film. but it tears sll the time, too, when that happens.

LLOYD  there is a veterans home in  this st ate and several have died from the covid 19 there.

CALLIE  great post from you, so newsy. ;) ;)

JANE  I have to be sleepy when I go to bed or I don't sleep but once I ge t  t o sleep I can sleep through even a thunder storm. People ask me if the loud thunder during the night bothered me much. When I  tell them I slept through it they don't believe me.

JENNY  I am ready for cold weather, was in the mid 70's yesterday and the forecasters said it would only get to the high  60's. Even turned the AC on for Yvette. She starts sweating working around and I like to make it cool for her.

LLOYD  I have not had home made ice cream in about 50 years.

AMY  I s till like snow but I no longer had to get a shovel out. The maintenance man clears the walks with his little plow and a truck with plow does the parking lot.

Have a great day and stay safe and healthy with your mask on.

JANE  I always heard we don' t have Indian summer until we have a killing frost. We had several light frosts before that killing one got here, still no Indian summer though.

Good morning. Thermometers said it was 45º at 8:45 a.m.  We've been bouncing up and down for the past several weeks - furnace on the morning, a/c in the afternoon.  Hope Fall has finally arrived to stay.

Gloria, glad you enjoyed my news.  :2funny:  I was waiting for time to go to the dentist.  Hadn't been since all these restrictions started and was impressed with the office arrangements.  Very easy - and, best of all, A Good Report on teeth.

Need to do an errand today that isn't on the main thoroughfare I live off of .  Two days in a row driving more than a mile north or south??  :o  Woo Hoo - don't know if I can stand the excitement!  :crazy2:

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Ladies, hold your applause till the end of this story!  (LOL) This morning I decided I was not going to throw away my two remaining, overripe bananas.  So I pulled out my banana bread recipe (my daughter's actually) and started gathering the various bowls and cups to hold the ingredients.  Got everything measured out, and ready to begin.  My electric mixer is way, way up in the top cabinet, which I can't reach (5'0") and daughter has forbidden my using my stepstool to reach things.  So, I begin creaming butter and sugar, by hand, then adding eggs, vanilla, flour & buttermilk alternately, and stirring like crazy, also by hand.  My arm and shoulder may fall off before the rest of day is done, but I will, by golly, have nice hot banana bread in awhile.  I hate to sound so proud of myself for doing all this mixing by hand, but I kept thinking of my mom, and her mom, going back eons, and all they had to do this mixing with was a good strong arm, and a loving heart to make this or other cakes and breads.  I am now standing at the computer, and if you are so inclined, put your hands together while I take a small bow.  (I may never do this again :-\ but it was ?fun? while it lasted!) LOL.  I'll let you know how it tastes later.

CallieOK

Tome,

I remember mixing ingredients for cookies that way when I was growing up.  Still have the wooden spoon we used - but haven't done it "by hand" in eons.  Congratulations!

Errands done and car didn't fall apart from being driven about 3x farther than usual.  Neither did I!

Good late morning from a chilly but now snowless Interior! It was plus one at 8 AM, and now at 11:19, it's an entire plus 2°. We're supposed to get another round of snow on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Gloria, I don't believe we've ever had an Indian summer. Before 2017, it would be a hot summer, rainy August, and cooler but beautiful September. Then have the first snow on or about Halloween. Now all bets are off. This past summer smashed all known records with the continuous rainfall and cool temperatures. Combined with a burgeoning virus, we just wanted it over.

Tome, you have my respect. I cannot lift a full coffeepot anymore without my hands shaking! True story. I was at the doctor during an exam when he asked me to take his hand and squeeze. He repeated, asking me to squeeze, and I retorted, "I am!"

I did get about half of the soapy scrubbing I meant to do the past two days. This afternoon, it's mopping floors and cleaning the bathroom, and hopefully, tomorrow will be some loads of laundry. I have yet to bake that loaf or roast.👩‍🍳

Shirley

My day has been so busy I can't remember when so much accomplished in about 6 hours... all to the credit of my daughter! I had hoped she'd find time this visit to update my Garmin GPS, Fitbit & the iPad she gave me for my birthday. I am awful updating stuff because I never understand what "they" (the little people hiding inside each unit)... want me to do or say. She brought me the Versa 2 that she "put away" when she got the latest Fitbit, she also has that newest iPhone watch, whatever it's called, that does everything but breathe for you. She can answer her phone on the watch... you know, Dick Tracy stuff.... And she also brought me the latest Kindle Fire the she doesn't use anymore & put it through all the latest updates as well as my old one that is used for playing solitaire.... We kept these plug ins hot all day but all's done!

Patricia, I never ever thought about losing strength in my arms/hands but the time has arrived! I even keep a pair of scissors handy to open the packets of sauce that comes with fast food. I do remember when Mom would hand things to Dad to open but thought it was to make him feel useful.  ;) ... little did I know.

Tome, I am showing proper respect for your deed!  Lloyd, also hats off to you & Nancy for home made ice cream! I have never made it but always heard how much work it is.

Gloria, no frost or freeze yet but do have to get that pool winterized as well as the RV. I am determined to get a trip to MO just once before winterizing but the knee will not cooperate. Know I am lucky to be driving yet, but before I sell it I do want one more trip!

Callie, when we visited my grandmother's house for the last time, auction over and so many thinks laying around, Dad would mutter, "there's Mama's kraut masher", "there's the paddle she dipped the clothes out of the boiling water", "there's her rolling pin"... a whole rack of treasures I saved and now hang on one of those criss/cross racks so popular years ago. Also brought back the aluminum dipper that was always hanging from the cistern handle...her old cane and an acid stained monster spoon for making lye soap, I think. All things the people handling the estate sale didn't bother putting out, but I have 3 kids that went through the house they came from, so hope they will find a place for them in the future.

My house smells delicious, if you like taco soup. Not sure why I crave it but will clean up a big pot and ready to make more. This recipe takes 9 or 10 cans of stuff plus the pack of taco seasoning & couple pounds of cooked hamburger. I will start tasting pretty soon, a few bites in my tasting bowl at a time, until I get the right amount of salt.

Sandy, don't know why but I've had the urge to take a load of my no-used things to a thrift store & look around while there and always think about your find of a Tilley hat! At the time I had never heard of a Tilley hat so Googled & saw all the different styles. Not sure I mentioned to you about standing in Sam's Club check out line & the man in front looked very dapper, I recognized his hat and ask him if it was a Tilley.... he looked so pleased I recognized it you could see him strut as he went out. We learn so much in here!

Who mentioned having the AC on in the afternoon & furnace when first waking up???  First time in my life I've done that as well!  You'd have to see Tiger run over to her fav furnace vent & look at me like "where's the HEAT?"

Amy, I enjoy how well you & Kyle take care of each other. Jenny & Bob, Lloyd & Nancy...You are all so lucky to have each other yet. We can't change the world but when a big piece of our world is suddenly missing, you finally understand how nice it was to "bounce thoughts off" each other.

Jane, sorry to say my bedding did not get washed today, had such a restless night I am shocked the sheets are still on the bed! Didn't matter how I stretched out or curled up, that darn knee hurt worse than walking on it. Pretty sure it has to be the sciatic nerve. I don't want to be sent to an orthopedic again, already know arthritis is bad in the knees but not bad enough for surgery. One of these days it will pop & that nerve will get unpinched & I'll be okay. My doctor sounded so adamant about not going to the "kin"... don't remember how to spell, so think he may have heard some bad things about this particular one. Since I don't have anyone that can recommend having been to one here, I am chicken. I don't even know anyone that will recommend a chiropractor anymore & that used to be my sure fix for any joint pain!  :tissue:

JaneS

Now the day is over,
Night is drawing nigh.
Shadows of the evening,
Steal across the sky!

Another old camp song that comes to mind most evenings!  I stand on the porch or in the yard and sing it just for myself!

TOMEREADER, I'm proud of you for two things...first, for making that bread all by yourself with no modern tools!  That was a feat all by itself.  Second, I'm proud of you for not climbing up there to get that mixer down!  A lot of us don't mind our kids when the tell us not to climb up ladders to do stuff.  Right after I fell and broke my arm in the Spring, my step stool disappeared. I asked my daughter and my son if either of them had seen it when they were here.  I knew my son was telling the truth when he said he didn't.  I also knew my daughter wasn't telling the truth.  I've told her several times that if I don't soon find it, I'll just have to keep climbing up on chairs and tables to get stuff done.  All she says is, "You shouldn't be climbing".  And when I ask who's going to change the light bulb in the hall?  She says she'll do it when she comes over.  And I say, "And in the meantime, I'll follow that little black dog down the dark hall until I fall on top of her?  She just says, "Be careful".

I have to tell you all an old story about mixing by hand.  Christy was about 12 years old and she brought a recipe home from my sister's and she declared in no uncertain terms that she was goin to make it herself.  So we all cleared out of the kitchen to let her do her thing.  I was sitting where I could see her if I turned around but I wasn't watching her.  She moved right along until she said, "I wonder if this part of the recipe is right?"  I asked what it said and she answered, "I says 'mix by hand'.  I turned around and looked and saw stuff dripping off her hands into the bowl.  I hastened to explain that "Mix by hand" means with a spoon in your hand and not the mixer.  We've laughed about that one ever since.

I'm off to the haystack.  It's waiting and I'm sure it's loaded with zzzzzs because there were none on the couch this afternoon.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, 46-feels like 41 and is pouring.  My both sons planned on coming this morning to take my AC out and put it away for the winter. Rain is supposed to stop about 9 if the guessers are right for a change.
When I went to shut down last night I noticed an update ready. I just shut down but when I turned the PC on his am I discovered it did the update anyway. Wonder what will be messed up now on this machine.

CALLIE  your little waver had me smiling yesterday but at least you did show up. I was shocked when I went to the dentist a couple of weeks ago to have a tooth out. The dentist, her aid and the gal in the office were the only ones there besides me. My son parked his car and I called into the office and the aid came to the door to get me from the car. So strange not seeing a full place.

SHIRLEY  that hempvana pain stuff really works on my back when it hurts like h***.

Sorry I did not reply to everyone but think I will try to get a little more sleep before my sons get here. Waking up at 3 am is not a good nights sleep in my book.

Have a good day and keep safe.

Shirley

Good morning, Gloria, looks like we're the only ones up yet. I woke a little before 4:00am & finally got up a little before 5:00. Usually can go back to sleep after eating & think all my kids will be busy at their grand's soccer games until late. I will try HempVana again today, maybe on my lower back & not just knee.

I'm really wanting the trip to MO before November, after that it is too iffy about weather. Don't think it will make a good sled. Wind is blowing like crazy but temps to be a little warmer today than tomorrow so guess I'd better vac the pool & do what I can outside. Pool guy & mowers don't work on week ends and I have to be here to unlock & lock gates back. Never heard from the doctor about the oxygen test, but can't do a lot of walking to make the breathing heavy!  :-\   My AC doesn't have it's cover on yet, doubt it will be needed again in 2020.

Oh, my update showed up when talking to my son the other night, I was glad he called because I didn't know what to do, that little wheelie thing kept spinning & the pop up warned to "don't turn off computer". Andy told me to leave it running & go to bed! Sure enough, when I got up it had shut down & was all done, had done a restart. So far I haven't found any differences.

Going to eat an egg & couple of Eggos & go back to bed. Bet Amy & maybe Jane will have posted by the time I shut up here!

JaneS

We're waiting patiently for the boinger and then breakfast.  My phone said it got down to 32º overnight but I didn't detect any frost when I took Mickie out early this morning.

Frankie is coming over later and wants to have my computer handy for something she needs to do.  I'm not sure what but if it was any day but Saturday, I'd run to WM for a haircut while she's here.  It's too busy Saturday and I'd have to wait forever to get in.  So I guess I'll put that on my list for next week.

The boinger just went so Mickie and I will be having breakfast now.  I hope you all have a great day.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday went great! I was able to go in with Kyle for his CT scan and blood work. He doesn't hear that well even with the hearing aids so the nurses that scanned you at the door let me on in. What a difference it is now..questions, hand sanitizer (that was always there) go in one way and out another. Appointment were ahead of schedule and we were back  on the road 10 minutes after the appointed time for CT scan!!

Now need to run him into town as he shorted himself on some material to build a broom closet storage area out in the sunroom.

Shirley, I like the Versa 2  if you notice this one has Alexa on it.to answer any questions you may have. Jane did post but I was beat from yesterday and was busy pounding the pillow when you posted :)

Tomereader , that is an accomplishment  not many will do all that by hand now, not even the young ones.

Gloria hope you can catch some sleep.

Better get to town.

Enjoy your day everyone..
