Marilyne, (and any other Netflix watchers)
Once again my daughter put me onto a couple of shows that have been awesome:  First she recommended "Here I Am" which is a documentary on Dolly Parton.  Now if you are not a country music fan you can skip this one.
Next, daughter recommended "Dumplin'" a very sweet movie, based on a book by the same name.  (It too has a lot of Dolly Parton songs as background, and as a secondary plot line).  The only "star" you will recognize is Jennifer Aniston.  Also, showing up late in the film is Kathy Najimi, who you will have a hard time recognizing as she has lost a great deal of weight.  She played one of the nuns in the Whoopie Goldberg comedy movie about nuns. (Having a brain-drain and can't think of the title)  Anyway, for something light, sweet and empowering, try "Dumplin"   The ensemble cast is great with kudos to the young actresses.

I just can't get my print larger . using my iPad. Forgotten how to do it I guess.

Amy

Tome, would that be Sister Act with Whoopie?

Good Sunday Afternoon,
one and all.

It is sunny here on the rocky coast.  Which
is great as it won't be long before
"Old Man Winter"  will be a knocking
at our door,  and we will be missing these
lovely Fall days.

I will check out those Dolly Parton movies
on Netflix and see how I like them.

Since I cut the  cord I depend more
on streaming shows then ever.   There
are so many that I never run out of things
to watch.

I have CBS All ACCESS for only a few dollars
a month,  which keeps me informed of local
news.     I wish that ABC and NBC had that
also.

Cataract Surgery  work very well on the
one eye that I can still see out of.
Distance is now 20/20...

It feels great to still be able to
buy the much much much cheaper reading
glasses for close work and computer stuff ..

So try not to worry and be sure to use
the drops like they tell you
to do.     They are very important  for
the surgery to heal well.

Have a good week EVEYONE and
Don't forget to VOTE..  No matter
who you love.

Peace
Sandy

Wow, what a lot of nice posts today.  yesterday was dreary and rainy but we needed the rain.  Today is about 75° and sunny.  Florida is known as the "sunshine state" and we do have a lot of pleasant sunny weather, especially in the fall and winter.

Joy, I put off cataract surgery a long time, but my young ophthalmologist told me it is about safest operation you can have.  I'm so glad I had it done.  My operations were two weeks apart.

Beverly, I hope you are having some better days now.  I don't sleep well at night and at my regular doctor's visit in August the doctor told me to try melatonin which the body naturally makes.  She said to start at 3mg but not go over 10mg.  I haven't tried it yet but think I'll try it soon as see if it helps as I just don't get enough sleep.

Marilyne, it still sounds pretty bad about the fires expected to continue in northern Calif.  Fortunate that your grandson didn't get sick.  Same thing happened with our neighbor's son.  He was tested due to working in a restaurant and tested positive but no symptoms.  They thought it was just a bad test.  But he  did self-quarantine.

I made some vegetable soup for dinner which turned good and now I'm planning on a piece of Pepperidge Farm coconut cake.

have a good day everyone.

Tomereader1

Yes, thank you Amy.  It was Sister Act.

My mind is "not always" as sharp as it once was.  I was able to remember Najimi's name, and that she was in that Whoopi G. movie, but for the life of me, couldn't pull the title out of thin air.

Sandy, hope you enjoy those two movies. A few clips out of the Dolly Parton documentary had also been seen in the PBS Special "Country Music".

Quote from: Amy on October 25, 2020, 07:20:09 AMBeverly , the show is called North Woods  Law. Game wardens out protecting the wild life ,last night it was taken in New Hampshire.

Another show is Lone Star Law which is another good show of game wardens in Texas. I think of Hal when I see the beautiful country there. Would love to see a field of long horns up close.

In both shows,  men and ladies come up on some characters be it humans or animals.

Tomereader1

Amy, I'm getting North Woods Law on the Animal Channel.  Been watching for about 3 hours. Great show.

Amy

Tome, we really enjoy that show also. Lots to see in wild life and scenery.

Beverly

Amy - I found North Woods Law and watched it this afternoon. Two shows were in New Hampshire. I'm glad you mentioned it. There is going to be a new (not re-run) show at 9:00 tonight so I plan to watch. I kept an eye out for familiar landmarks. They were driving on the interstate and drove by the exit near where my youngest daughter lives. I've driven that highway so many times!

Shirley - You should try an orthopedic doctor. There are non-surgical treatments. Surgery is usually a last resort with older people. Chape has had knee problems for years. He managed to avoid surgery but one knee has been bothering him lately.

Marilyne - Yes, Michael bought a small courtyard villa for vacations here in The Villages. I expect to see them at the end of November.

Marilyne

Good morning everyone.  All is well here, and looks like we are going to miss the destructive hurricane force winds that are hitting the North Bay Area. (Napa, Sonoma, etc.)  I haven't heard of any fires starting up there as a result, so hoping that doesn't happen.

Amy - Last night we watched an episode of "North Woods Law".  It was one that took place in Maine, and involved two or three different storylines.  I liked the one involving the bear, the best.   AJ liked it, and wants to see more, so we'll definitely follow up.  Thanks for the tip.  :)

Tome - We both enjoyed the PBS Country Music series, that played last year!  I'll take a look at the Dolly Parton specials on Netflix.  Right now I actually have a long list of Netflix and Prime shows to watch!  I hear that the fourth season of, "The Crown", will be starting in a few weeks, on Netflix.  I'm really looking forward to it.

Shirley - Seems like everyone has knee problems these days!  My husband AJ, and our two daughters, all have had ongoing relentless knee pain.  They have all been to see orthopedist's, and surgery wasn't recommended for any of them.  However they did have MRI's or CT scans, to make sure there wasn't anything serious.  Most is caused by "wear and tear".  In AJ's case it's probably age related, but the two girls are only in their early 50's and early 60's, so can't figure out what's causing it.  Both now have simple braces that they strap on when the pain gets bad.

Jean - I tried the Melatonin . . . all of the different mg's, plus a couple of different brands.  None of them worked for me.  :(   I accepted the fact, many years ago, that I'm a poor sleeper, and nothing I can do about it.  I could ask for sleep medications of some kind, but I don't want to do that.  I usually just get up and read or watch TV, when I have an especially bad night.

Joy - I also have had cataract surgery, and had no problems.  I was so happy with the results, and still remember when I woke up the following morning and looked out the window and saw all of the individual green leaves on the trees, and how bright and beautiful everything looked.  It was a wonderful feeling!

We didn't hear from Jenny yesterday, and also haven't seen any posts from Patricia in a couple of days?  I emailed her yesterday, but haven't heard back?  Maybe having computer problems?

Tomereader1

Marilyne, I had tried all the different permutations of Melatonin, and none seemed to work with me. However, I tried this one called "RemFresh" and it really worked for me.  I did find that I did better with just half a pill, got the sleep, but didn't feel like I was still sleepy the next morning. Lots of figuring out "when" to take it.  I had to play around with the written instructions to get my best result.

The Dolly Parton documentary is called "Here I Am".  Hope you enjoy, whenever you get around to watching it.

Denver

A good Tuesday HELLO to ALL from a sunny but C❄️LD Colorado.

Thankfully we received enough snow to justify the frigid temperatures but dang, it was really cold❄️  All I can do is dream about getting out of here for the winter....feeling very sad about the lack of a winter home for us to go to😢. Trying to find a rental in a warm place, but not finding much we feel we can afford.

My pot of beans was absolutely delicious on Sunday.  We sure enjoyed them.  The parents of Oliver came to pick him up yesterday afternoon and brought us a big gallon bag of pork ribs they served while in Brekenridge with their family.  It included home made Mac and cheese that was wonderful, so no cooking necessary yesterday😍

Oldest grandson ended his 2 week quarantine due to a fellow football player testing positive to the virus, and on that same day our granddaughter went into Q as a fellow classmate tested positive! They both were tested this morning and both tested negitive🙏 The numbers seem to be rising all over, so I bet we soon will all be back to at least "safer at home"!  Frightening 😢😢

MARILYNE, I just do not know where the time goes....no excuse for not posting, I am sad to say, but I come in and read and try to start a post....something happens and by the time I get back to it my post is long gone.  I need to better judge my time🤣🤣

I did see a post fro PATRICIA today, so she is OK.  Just hope she is feeling much better.

JEAN, I know many that use Melatonin and swear by it, but like MARILYNE....it does not work for all.  I used to be a very light sleeper , but in the last couple of years all that has changed and for the most part, I am lucky to say I have no sleeping issues😴

I wish you ALL a good day....

Marilyne

Jenny - good to hear from you this morning!  Sorry to see that two of your grandkids have had to quarantine for Covid.  I know it would be very bad, if Michele got exposed, so I'm glad they both have tested negative. We're still getting the strong dry winds, and many fires have started, as a result.  Fortunately they were all contained fairly quickly, so I hope that will continue to be the case.  Yesterday, the humidity here in town, was way down at 9%!

JeanneP - Don't worry about the size of your type.  We can read it fine, and we want to hear from you!    I haven't seen you posting in a long time, and hope that everything is okay in your life?

Beverly

Jean - I'm wondering how the melatonin worked for you. Sometimes I think it helps but not always.

Tome - Can you get RemFresh over the counter?

Jenny - Hope you are a little warmer now. Seems so early for snow but I know they've already had some in northern New England.

Marilyne - I heard there were a lot of people without power in northern California. Praying that you aren't one of them! Those fires just don't stop!  :(

Tomereader1

Yes, Beverly, it is over the counter.  Available at CVS, Walgreen's, and probably wherever you get OTC medications.  There is or was a coupon in the coupon section of the newspaper for $2.00 or $4.00 off.  It may have already expired. The product is not all that expensive (I pay more for my Beano!)

Amy

marilyne. you are welcome.....another great show is alaska state troopers. last night most of the show was from patricia's area.........just beautiful to see. i love the mountains.

Amy - Good to hear that you're doing okay!    Take it easy, and watch lots of TV!  Try to find the series called, Buying the Yukon.  I think it's on HGTV, but not sure?  I'll double check.  It always amazes me to see that so many people want to live off the grid!  Fun to see the houses they choose to buy.  We are enjoying  North Woods Law. Take care, and keep us posted!

MARILYNE, 9% humidity for you is REALLY dry!  I am sorry to read there are more fires.....the winds have been terrible.  I hope they calm down for you.

BEVERLY, we have warmed up, thank goodness.  Our grandson had a football game this afternoon and I went along with Bob, but sat in the car.  It was delightful out there and his team won🏈🏈

The band was practicing and they all had masks on, but the JV team walked passed me and only ONE young man had a mask on as they all laughed and socialized while walking to their bus for a away game....this also included the coaches.  Very sad to see😡😡. I just do not GET IT why everyone can not wear their masks for the good of all👍👍

Hey, AMY.  So happy to see you....take care of that hand and give yourself a rest😘

Time to fix some dinner.

Have a good rest of your evening.

Not much going on here.  I've taken Melatonin 3mg for three nights and it has helped.  I'm glad I finally tried it.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Marilyne

Good Morning everyone.  Not so good here, because I had such a terrible night's sleep.  Last time I looked at the bedside clock it  was 3:45 AM.  :(  Then woke up at 8:00, so I had about four hours sleep. Night after night, same old thing!  Today I'm going to Walgreen's or maybe Whole Foods, and get some melatonin!  I've never been a good sleeper, but have been getting much worse in recent years.  A common complaint with women.  Why is it that men are such good sound sleepers?  :dontknow:

So good to see messages from Beverly, Jenny, Jean, Amy and Tome.  Hope we hear from Patricia and Jackie today?  Amy, I hope you're feeling better, and will be able to use your hand soon!  AJ, is having hand surgery next week, or the week after?  Can't remember when?  Also hope that Shirley is doing okay today?  it would be so hard to have something serious like Covid, and be all alone to cope with it by yourself.

patricia19

Good morning from the Interior. I'm back, feeling better, altho I am no longer able to eat canned food. After the holidays, I will be going on a strict clean-out thirty-day fast. Only fresh or frozen food is allowed. After that, I will get a new allergy test as they slowly introduce foods back in.

Unfortunately, some new foods on the absolutely, positively not list are raisins, chocolate, and overtly greasy foods. I know not overly significant news in these pandemic times, but my doctor assures me I don't want to have a heart attack in the midst of analeptic shock. I texted back, saying that wasn't something I was looking forward to either.

Not much else going on in my life other than tidying up, doing a couple of loads of clothes, and trying to go through all my missed emails.

Shirley, I was saddened to hear of your positive COVID test, but you're dealing with it, and that's all we can do. My sister left Idaho yesterday to drive to Oregon to support a good friend through surgery, and I worry about her driving in these times.

Marilyn, Amy, had surgery on her left hand and seems to be doing well with Kyle's help. I hope AJ's surgery goes, as well.

Hi Jenny! not much going on here as cases are spiking, tripling per day, so everything remains shut down. Other than going out to vote or be tested, my couch has seen more of me than I'd like. As for sleeping, for several years, I've not slept for more than two hours at a time. I try to connect these periods into at least five to six hours nightly, and sleeping pills tend to have the opposite effect.

Shirley

Quickie to let y'all know I'm still around. This nasty Covid has so many different features there is no telling where or how it hits next. Every time a different symptom shows up I have to think back to what I did to solve that problem before. Nap time, sleep is one thing I do good. My secret is & was my father's first.... a good cup of coffee calms one down & go right to sleep. Works for me! On that tip I will shut up. You never know if you haven't tried it.  ;)

Amy

Marilyn, doing good here.  As Patricia said Kyle is helping me with things that I can,t handle. Hope aj,s surgery goes as well as mine did. amazing help from  all the nurses and drs.

Shirley ,rest is the best medicine.

Take care and stay safe

Beverly and Marilyne,  regarding Melatonin ---so far 3mg has been enough for me, but my doctor said that more would be fine, if necessary, but not to go over 10mg.

Our weather has finally turned cooler and feels more like fall.

Tomorrow night will be "trick or treat".  We usually just put a sign up inside our storm door and put a big bowl of Hershey minis in front of the storm door.  It seems to work good for us and we don't have to bother running to the door.  We will do the same tomorrow night but I wonder if any kids will be coming around.

I didn't think I had missed any posts but I apparently have as I didn't realize about Patricia's allergies, Amy's hand and Shirley's coronavirus.  I think my mind has been up in the clouds somewhere.  I wonder what else I've missed. 😢. well, I hope everyone is doing OK or at least better.

Jenny, you mentioned cooking beans several posts ago and it reminded me that I haven't cooked any for quite a while.  When I went to the store I got a bag of pinto beans, but haven't cooked them yet.

Jackie, how is everything going with you?  We've had an uptick in the number of covid cases in our area so we don't go anywhere except the grocery story when necessary.

Callie, I saw a picture of those plastic dinner bubbles in New York City (outside in front of restaurants).  It looked a little awkward for the server going in and out of those bubbles.  It made me wonder if your granddaughter in New York had seen them.  Inventive New Yorkers, I must say.  That looked like a pretty bad ice storm in your state of OK.

We are surviving here in Northwest Florida and trust all of you are too in your areas.

CallieOK

#18745
Jean, Ellen hasn't mentioned the bubbles but I haven't been in touch with her that much since she went back in August.  She hadn't worked at the restaurant since she went back from the Christmas show in Wisconsin last December.

Yes, Monday - Wednesday were "The Historic October Ice Storm". There were multiple inches of freezing rain and the trees hadn't yet lost their leaves which made the inches of ice coating too heavy.  So there are lots and lots and lots of trees blocking streets and falling on cars and buildings, It will take months and months to clean up everything.  Thousands of people are still without electric power and those whose power has been restored but who were on Cox still don't have cable or internet.  Fortunately, I never lost power and my Cox services weren't affected.
#1 son/dil lost electricity for about 24 hours but still no t.v. or internet.  #2 son/dil were without power from Monday afternoon until last night.  However, they're on AT&T and were able to hook up the t.v. to the generator.  Both have gas ranges so were able to cook and heat water.  #2 son/dil used water from their swimming pool for "washing up".  :)

Late yesterday morning, the sun came out - and today's temperatures were in the 60's and are supposed to be in the 70's next week.  Crazy!!!!

Today, my housecleaner was able to come and I was able to get groceries delivered.  I hadn't done laundry because I was skeptical about power staying on and didn't want to run out of hot water.  So I did that - and now have a stocked pantry, clean clothes, a clean house - and clean hair since I was able to get to hairdresser yesterday afternoon.

Just in time, I guess - because I've learned that #2 son/dil and possibly the "local" Grands are coming over to watch the OSU game tomorrow. #1 son/dil are going to the game in Stillwater.

I think I've figured out a way for 5 adults, two of whom are really big, to watch the game while "lounging" in my small living room and have enough walking room to get to the kitchen for snacks (which, since I didn't find out about this in time to add to grocery order, THEY are going to bring ).

I have baked cookies.  ;D

And that's the way it is in my little corner of the world.

Stay safe, Everyfriend.  Onward and Upward!

MarsGal

Gosh, Patricia, are your allergies getting worse? I thought they were bad enough already. I hope you are able to track it all down soon.

Marilyne, I hope AJ's surgery goes well. I have been thinking of you with all these fires about.

Shirley, et.al. in quarantine, thinking of you too.

Amy, did I miss something with your hand?

Sandy, glad to hear that your cataract surgery went well.

Callie, I thought of you when I saw the Great Ice Storm videos on YouTube and wondered how much you got.

Sorry if I missed anyone. So much goings on, and not necessarily to the good/happy side lately.
Hope everyone is much better as the holiday season approaches. This COVID-19 sounds likely to mess that up, though. Chin up everyone, we'll get through it together. I is so nice to have you all to spend time with.

Marilyne

MarsGal - Good to see you here today!   Hope that Shan, Lucy and Oscar, are behaving themselves?   Seems to me that I read that you were taking them to the Vet, for tooth problems?   That was a while back, so what ever the issue was, it's probably been resolved?   I neglected all the cams this season, and now it's getting close to the time that the ships all go into dry dock for the cold Winter months.  I'm going to make a point to follow my favorites, these last two months of the year.

I see that Shirley hasn't posted in S&F yet today? I've been thinking about her, and hope that she is doing okay?  I'm sure that some of our long time regular posters have her phone number, so if she doesn't show up today, maybe someone can call and see how she is.

Callie - I've been wondering about Miss Ellen, and hope that she has found work and is doing well in NYC?  Looks like they're having a Covid surge there too, but not as bad as other States.

Jean and Tome - I haven't gone to the store yet, to get the Melatonin.  I was planning to go today, but being as it's Halloween, I decided to wait for a not so busy day at. Walgreen's.   Halloween has been pretty much cancelled here in town, but people can do as they please, so I'm sure that some children will be going out Trick or Treating.   I didn't get any candy, and we plan to turn off the usual welcoming porch light.  I feel bad about it, but I think it's for the best for everyone's safety.

Marilyne

Oops, I see that Shirley DID post a message today in Soda Shoppe.  Good to know that she is doing reasonably well, and is getting lots of sleep and has plenty of food!

MarsGal

Hi Marilyne. Oscar was in for his annual checkup and shots. Lucy lost her lower right fang and the doc decided he wanted a closer look at her uppers. Sure enough, he found one that needed to be pulled. When I brought her home, she was wired (the opposite of being groggy like they expected). She kept prancing around, mostly in the kitchen, but I wasn't to feed her until six. I finally had to cave in about 5:30 and feed her. It took her until next day before she gave in and let me pet her. Now we are buds again.

I've only been half watching the shipping because most of the time they have been coming by the cameras one at a time or at times I couldn't watch. I have been keeping an I on USCG Hollyhock, however. She took her sweet time going south to help in aftermath of the hurricanes, all the while stoppC.ing and repairing or replacing buoys at several places, including NYC. They finally made it to Mayport (Jacksonville, FL) and there she sat with an under repair designation (per Marine Traffic). A few days ago she headed north again and last I looked was moored near Sorel. guesstimate that is about 3/4 of the way to Montreal. In the meantime, CCCG Samuel Risley made an appearance for a day or two at Sarnia, headed south to the Detroit River and then back north. It is east of the Soo Locks and may be heading back to Sarnia. I do believe that buoy change-out season is upon us.
