Good morning from an unseasonally cold Interior at minus twenty-two! I dread going out today, but needs must, and unfortunately, none of what I need will be right outside my door! We're supposed to begin warming up again on Thursday, but I can only hope that the current weather will be an anomaly this winter.

I'm not a fan of hospitals for many reasons, but chief among them is that I have no oxygen in my platelets and 90/60 for low blood pressure. To get blood out of me is a process, and I'm not allowed to donate blood due to lack of oxygen. Another fun fact is that I tend to wake up under anesthesia.

Believe me, that fact is noted in every medical record I can find and verbally reiterated to each operating doctor and anesthesiologist. One time, the physician actually rolled his eyes when I firmly explained but later admitted they had to stop and put me back under four times!

My friend says I don't want to miss anything! However, I tend to have opposite reactions to many drugs, such as sleeping pills, keeping me up for one. It's one reason I'm not fond of taking too many pills and try to get along without them. My father was the same way as is one of my nephews, so it's genetic.

Speaking of genetics, those DNA commercial kits that everyone's taking? It all depends on how large a bank of tests they have to draw on and match yours with when you send it in. It's one reason why they will often send you updates as they get more worldwide information. I saw a YouTube video about it, and if you read the small print and disclaimers on the boxes, all they can tell you for certain is from which continent your DNA originated. But it's great entertainment, and mine confirmed what has been passed down in my family.

Bubble, that is good news, especially as immunities don't seem to last, and some are getting reinfected. I've read that they don't expect to get a handle on the virus and new normality until 2024. What that new normality will be, who knows. Remember that ancient curse that states, "May you live in interesting times?" I'd like to know what we did!

I, too, wait to hear each day from Shirley and hope this will be a mild case for her.

I saw a YouTube video last night that made me very sorry for the cat. There it was trying to sleep, and an African Gray parrot was hassling it, pulling out hairs and poking the cat with its leg. The final straw was when the parrot got very close and peered right into the cat's eye. I knew just how that cat felt!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOpS4qGILyY

Amy

Patricia, that cats name must be Patience!!

I went on to look at the video of a 91 yr old..and what she cooked in the depression..

Another sunny warm day in Central Oklahoma.  Certainly a 180º change from this time last week. Sounds as if you in the east are getting the "left-overs" of what we had.  Hope you don't have the tree damage this area did.

I am "needle phobic" and only learned a few years ago not to feel as if I would pass out when lab tech takes blood for those multiple tests.  I still hide my eyes and grit my teeth. If the tech tries to "visit" while she's working - I tell her I'll be nice when the needle is out of my arm.

However, my blood pressure is actually lower at the dentist's office. Go figure!!!! Don't mind the "maintenance" work at all and, if I need a filling, he numbs the gum before deadening the area.  Wish the m.d. did that.

I've put off finding the "round tuit" for several Domestic Duties.  Guess I'd better get busy or laundry/dishes will have to be done again immediately.

patricia19

Amy, that was great! Both parents were lucky to grow up on farms during the depression, so at least food was there as not much else was! The only trouble with YouTube is all those little side trips with other videos.

Callie, I'm fine after that first jab and as long as I don't watch. My daughter would pay close attention and pepper the tech with questions! She must have gotten that from her paternal side.

Amy

Gloria, where are you? Now that restrictions are in order in the choco factory we are only allowed so many in at a time. We follow the arrows or path way along the different bins of chocolate. Last time we were there I think Kyle got enough to last till Spring!!

Patricia, I bet that dish tasted good despite the simplicity of it.

Yay!! Kyle got a 5.00 pm appointment at the chiropractors today!

Amy, I like onions, and my mother always fried onions and potatoes, w/o meat as a regular side dish. However, I don't know as she discovered that combination while growing up during the depression. Anything with those two vegetables would be good!

We're having what is often referred to here as ice fog because it's cold enough that car exhaust mixes with other chemicals in the air and freezes, causing dense fog. Today, in my Word a Day email, I discovered this word, originally from the Shoshone. Pogonip, MEANING:
noun: A dense winter fog having ice particles.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Shoshone paγinappih (cloud). Earliest documented use: 1860.

USAGE:
"The valley floor is covered with a blanket of snow, the trees glisten with the shimmering ice crystals of pogonip and the holiday season is almost over."
Wendy Hanson Mazet; Live Christmas Tree After-Care; Reno Gazette-Journal (Nevada); Dec 28, 2013.

Amy

Patricia, onions enhance any dish..Kyle can only eat them cooked but I like a green onion in a crust of bread that has been buttered and some salt.. a lady I worked for got me into that deal!

Now I have learnt something .didn't know about ice fog.......you are going to have to call out the fog plows!! :2funny:

I mentioned that to one person and they said "you have plows for that?"

Aside from the fact that I got the rest of the crackers spread, the day was a bit of a bust.  I got all cleaned up, dressed and ready to go to the dr. for the tests and blood work and the car wouldn't start.  I didn't have time to get someone here to get it started so I called and they rescheduled for tomorrow.

My son is coming in the morning with jumper cables and hopefully I'll get that chore done tomorrow.  I guess the car decided it likes sitting around waiting better than going.  I hope it's not planning to make a habit of that.  Maybe it heard me say I'd just stay home in the winter.

I'm all set up to dip the rest of the crackers in the morning and then Thursday, I'll start on the candy cups.  I always do the coconut ones first because they're the hardest ones to do.  Also, I can eat some of them while I do the rest.

I hope Shirley is feeling better.  I see she didn't post today.

JOY, nice to hear from you.

Phyllis, AMY, Patricia enjoy your day.  Patricia, I think I'm glad I don't live where you do.  That "air ice" doesn't sound so good.

LLOYD, keep on getting your rest and feeling better.  Tell Nancy I said Hello to her.  I so enjoyed meeting both of you when you were here.

I'm going to hit the haystack again.  Lately it's been full of zzzzs and that's good.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, feel-better, stay-warm tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I am here & sorry I didn't post yesterday, been keeping my kids up on how this goes and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Every few hours a new type of torture. Remember those early mornings when pregnant & slight move would bring on the heaves? My ribs are sore from dry heaves. I managed a couple bites of oatmeal & toast but time to crawl back in bed. We can do this!

My cats owe their lives to a doctor willing to let me do this at home and I'm sure he has had uneasy times wondering if it would work. The challenge now it getting enough fluid & nourishment into the body so not over yet. Terrifies me to think there might be another version of the virus to attack again. Not sure I could handle it.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Seems like all I did yesterday was sleep till Yvette came. Got my coffee and turned on the TV and the PC and then laid on the couch and the phone woke me. It was noon and she was calling from downstairs. Surprsed I slept last night but feel wide awake. Could be I am bored with no social activity in this place anymore.

BUBBLE  let's all pray that  test with the covid vaccine works and the world can wipe out the virus.

AMY  the last carpal tunnel I had the surgeon also fixed the trigger finger I had on that hand. That was more than 8 years ago now and both hands are doing good.

PHYLLIS  my older son brought me a half bushel of apples last week, plans for today are to make another apple crisp and them make applesauce with the rest of them.

PATRICIA  I am the opposite of you, every time I am sedated, even earkly in t he morning I do not wake up till the next day. I am now scared of being sedated.

SHIRLEY  you are one brave lady to stay  home alone while so sick. I could not do what you are doing feeling like you do and still cooking and taking care of the cats. You are  in my prayers.

Have a  good day and stay safe.

So glad to see a post from Shirley but still worried about her.  Fingers crossed and praying that you take a turn for the better soon, Shirley.

Really tired today.   Late, late night.  Probably I will do a lot of snoozing throughout the day.

Take care, All.

Good morning from another cold morning in the Interior at minus twenty-six. I'm hoping it warms up on Thursday as promised. Unfortunately, I have to go out today and run some errands, but it will be a swift trip!

Shirley, we're all glad to hear from you each day, even if it's a quick hello! You can do this!

Gloria, I, and others in my family tend to react in opposite ways than intended to drugs, which is one reason I try to avoid them if I'm able.  I have trouble sleeping, so I might enjoy a seven to ten-hour sleep. However, I'd probably then be awake for the next three nights. Even with strong drugs, it's hard to put me under.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm glad to see so many of you there...especially you, SHIRLEY!  I hope it's time for your turnaround and you soon head for "WELL"!  I wish there was some way to help you other than prayers!

I've been up to my eyeballs in chocolate this morning.  I got everything ready to dip the rest of the crackers before I went to bed last night and plugged it in right away this morning.  I'm finished with the crackers that have to be mailed now and I did 4 Santa lollypops for Emma!  Everything is cleaned up and as soon as Cooper gets here, I'll get my shower and get ready to go to the dr appointments....AGAIN!

After the appts. I'm considering a stop at the store to get what I need to make fruitcake and also more Christmas bags to pack candy.  I might and I might not!

I hope you are all in the middle of a great day!  Or at least a good one!  And I hope some of you are feeling better every minute but it sure doesn't sound like you are, SHIRLEY!  You sure are brave to do this alone!  I sure hope those kitties appreciate you!

Nice to see a message from Shirley.  Glad you feel good enough to be in touch with us.  You still don't sound all that great, and I am still concerned about you.  Make sure you get enough fluids and rest. Have you been keeping in touch with the doctor ?  I hope so.  He should know how you are feeling, especially with the stomach upsets .

I was up late and then have been watching the tv most of the day.  It sure is becoming a real mess !!!!

It has been a real sleepy day.  Supposed to be a lot warmer by the end of the week.  Maybe I will make myself go sit out in the sunshine later in the week. Maybe that will help me feel better.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Our day went well. Both Babe and hubby look spiffy with their hair cuts. Day turned out amazing, temps in the  70,s  and a sunny day.

Shirley, good to hear from you  ,I still think the Boost or Ensure just no cream or milk would help you...ask your Dr what he thinks about it. If anyone can get through this it is certainly YOU!!

Jane, how is the candy factory doing? I do know what you make is delicious! I picked up some crackers to make you on one covered in chocolate when I get to it.

Good Afternoon everyone! I'm back from all my appointments and have good news and bad. Depending on the area of town I was in, the temperature ranged from minus 26 to minus seventeen to minus twenty-two and then thirty below.

Going west or north is always colder than the other two directions due to the rivers, ponds, and creeks. Thursday is supposed to be one degree for both highs and lows and Friday is six to eight inches of snow. Such is life in the Arctic.

I visited the doctor's nurse and we agreed to get it over with and I'll be starting my trial of limited foods on the fifteenth and finishing on the fifteenth of December. We already know about canned goods, chocolate, and raisins. They're pretty sure of what food caused my latest blip. Would you believe bananas?

Evidently, the food has a protein that irritates some lactose-intolerant people and I had previously purchased a large bunch. The dates of illness coincided with the bananas. They're going to be slowly reintroducing foods after the trial is over to see if I have any reactions. The nurse said one way to look at it is I will be very healthy on only fresh or frozen foods, coffee, and water and have better skin. Not a big or even mini deal in the scheme of things considering the 90,000 new COVID-19 cases reported on election day and Shirley's case.

At the store, all anyone could talk about was higher prices. Eggs, cheese, milk, and meat all were noticeably increased. A neat trick with so many people suffering or out of work. An organic bread I like had gone from 3.49 to 6.99! All the bread had gone up except for the store brand which was all 2.99. Hmmm. Fruit and meats were repriced as well.

When I returned home, there were maintenance guys dressed in plastic with tanks on their back, spraying antiseptic on the walls and hallways. Not good, but people still in public areas without masks.

Amy

Patricia,my gosh that is cold! Are these normal temps for this time of year?

Will you just eat wild game and meat that you know that doesn't have chemicals?

What we take for granted each day e.g. eating can cause others so much grief.

Amy, basic meat doesn't seem to be an issue, but my friend Claire is bringing over some game for my freezer and some homemade noodles. It's chemically processed food and drinks that are the problem. My body doesn't deal with chemicals very well.

The cold temperatures we've had this week are common in January and February and are unexpected at the beginning of winter. However, this whole year weatherwise has been just as record-breaking and unbelievable as the rest. Someone should make hats and shirts saying, "I survived 2020!".

JaneS

The car didn't let me down today but I think it was AMY who said I might need to start it up daily and let it run for a bit.  I'd already thought of that and I'm putting it on my schedule.

I got some very good news at the dr.  My blood pressure is better than it's been in a long time.  I guess what I'm doing (or not doing) is working. My new dr. had his nurse call to tell me he was happy with the results.  I still haven't seen him but I've heard from him.

Tomorrow, I'm going to make candy centers.  Cooper won't be here so I don't need to be careful about a little nose on the table.  My plan is to get all the coconut ones made into little balls.  That'll take a while!  But I'll break it up with doggie walks.

AMY are you going to make your own candy this year?  That's what it sounds like.

We had an absolutely gorgeous day today.  The temps got into the low 70s and the sun was shining!  I didn't want to come in and neither did the doggies.  I know now why I never moved to Alaska.  I sure couldn't take those low temps!  We've had some below 0's over the years but they don't last long.  Thank goodness!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  It's been loaded with zzzzzs the last few nights and it sure feels good to wake up and see that I've slept 6 hours or more!  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy, healthy, feel-better, get-well day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

Clear  cool morning with a temp of 44° but going up near the 70's again today!! Going into town to pick up some wood then home to get hopefully caught up on some chores. Need to cut the meat off the turkey bag and freeze it is first on the list. Just had a robo call,, telling them to get stuffed fell on deaf ears though :(

Babe is so silky soft and shiny coat..I had a coupon for 20 % off but when I cashed through they also gave me a 25% off. That was a surprise!! We always ask for the same girl as she understands Babe and her funny way at getting her nails done.

Jane, I am just making your crackers  as we really enjoy them!!I even bought a box of Ritz crackers to try them along with the soda crackers.

Sandy, I don't think any of us will forget this year . This is the first time that even the gardens failed..

Joy, we had a lovely warm day yesterday and we are to have the same through to the weekend. Wouldn't mind till the end of March but that is wishful thinking.

Gloria, last night I was awake around 2 had a glass of milk went back to bed but I am thinking a nap may be in order later today.

Shirley, prayers you are feeling better and kicking this crap in the butt!!!

Better get to work......

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "Good Morning to you, SANDY" since you're the only one to come by since I said good night last night.

I'm up and attem and ready for the coconut candy centers.  A soon as the boinger goes and we have our breakfast and a walk, I'll get started.  Since my hands will be pretty messy and in gloves most of the day, I probably won't get back in until I have them all rolled. And if it goes well, I might even start dipping!

I hope you all have a great, fee-better, feel-good day!  Make it your own in evry way and don't forget to share.  I want lots to read when I get back.

P.S.  Good Morning Amy..Sounds like you have your day all planned!

Good Morning Everyone from the
very pleasant and sunny rocky coast
of Maine.

Hi back at you Jane!

It looks like our weather is going
to be like this for the next few
days,  so if I want to enjoy it,
I need to go out and take advantage
of it,  while I still can.

When there is ice and snow on the
ground,  going out is not an
option unless it is to get in my
daughters car to get my INR checked.

Otherwise,  all is well here.

Enjoy

Turkey is all picked apart and put into bags for meals for the dogs, bones have been boiled and meat picked off for soup later. Hot tub has been emptied , cleaned and now refilling. When we came home the garage door wouldn't shut so a call to the folks  that installed it and information given back and forth had the door running proper again.

I was going to pick up romaine lettuce but wow...it was 2.99 and is now 6.49 :yikes: Needless to say it did stay in the store!

Refrigerator scramble for supper tonight.

Sandy, our weather is just perfect!!  We have no fire on and the sweatshirt I am wearing is just too much.

Shirley

A note from the walking dead.......  open heart surgery was a piece of cake compared with this special version of torture. Covid hits everyone differently from all I hear and I got a taste of it all. This morning I had my first meal, scrambled egg, fresh hash browns, piece of toast & cup of coffee.. & headed straight to bed, wore me out. I am doing good to stay awake even a few hours & spend most of it sitting on the edge of the bed thinking. It is like somebody turned off a switch & I go to sleep, will take time to gain strength back.

My first wish is that everyone will let me explain and apologize to Sandy for blowing off like I did. Her comment caught me when I really wanted to cry because even some of my own family felt the way she did. All of a sudden I find I am responsible for keeping Cas' world intact (including the cats) and I'm losing ground!

My husband grew up in the poorest conditions imaginable and every step of the way watched to see how to improve himself. He had the most conniving, self centered mother ever born and until the day she died, made sure he understood that "he owed her". All his life he watched and polished his social skills and did whatever it took to improve himself. He managed to have heads of companies admire what a dresser he was (their wives told me). He was frugal (understatement) but the kids & I knew what drove him. When our youngest started school I started doing art shows & we had "fun money". The kids worked their way through college & all have been blessed with great jobs, 2 retired & still going strong.

The evening he came to me with the spreadsheet of what we owned, still brings tears to my eyes, "we have a million in the bank", not including house, cars & absolutely NO debt. He was pushed into early retirement at 58 so that was a shock. The company he worked for went bankrupt the year after he retired & that put us in limbo for several years. He still did it. It has been 7 years since he died and so far the money is intact, actually a few dollars ahead.

But you can see where where I'm going, that money belongs to our kids, it's their college fund, they all helped their kids in college, have no hard feelings about how hard life was. Trump did pull the economy up in my mind and I hope to make sure the kids that did without get it before someone else. We don't know what is ahead but I am not going to roll over CDs, the money can go into a money market account that doesn't earn much but more liquid. (Nobody manages money for me, so can't afford to screw up).

So I am sorry for causing all this uproar and sorry I haven't had the strength to come explain. We had always been on different sides of the fence, Sandy, but I'm betting you & I are more alike that you know. I can think of a couple Democratic presidents I really liked, old Harry Truman and sweet Jimmy Carter. I'm glad we have a democracy and can vote.

My understanding with Cas was because I had the best parents in the world and I never doubted for one minute that they loved me and even though we didn't have a lot of money, neither did most of my friends. Sedalia was a "railroad town" and most fathers worked for the MoPac Shops. One of my best friends from 1st grade on had Kennedy connections, not silver spoon but gold... and the most miserable person I ever knew. Money was never that important to me, it just did not make people happy. But it was Cas' legacy and I hope to pass it on for his sake.

Thank you all for letting me blabber on. Maybe I'm still sick??? ;)

Good midmorning! We have risen to a full minus 11, so I'm feeling better. And tomorrow is supposed to start a seven day run of snow and temperatures in the plus thirties, so that's better than the past couple of days.

One point I wanted to clarify. This state has four separate geographical, thermal, and climate regions or zones, which means each zone can have wildly different weather. For example, the Southeast is in the same zone as Washington and Oregon, with Ketchican, AK having the most annual rainfall of all fifty states.

The Interior has low humidity; yesterday, we had 6% humidity, and it takes humidity & moisture to warm up enough to snow. It follows that the arctic region's lack of humidity is a dry climate and dry climate temperatures are warmer than those same temperatures in a more humid or wet climate. An example is our twenty below is to me, like a day in Tennesse's 40 degrees pouring rain. So, many of you see our frigid temperatures from a wet climate perspective if that makes sense?

Shirley, this will get better. Please rest as needed and try to eat when and how you can. We're all pulling for you to make a complete Covid recovery!
