Good Afternoon Everyone.
It yet another warmish and
beautiful day here on the
Rocky Coast.

It is good to have a
day to celebrate the
veterans who served and
are still serving our
country.

Both of my brothers
served, one as a Marine
in the Korean War and the
other  in the Military  Police
in Italy (not during war time)
but he ended up getting TB
and had to come home to be
cured.

My son Kirk also served in the
Coast Guard..

Have a good week,
everyone !

well i am here to wish you all good Night and sweet dreams well I had a uncle served and my step farter did also. I done my six year obligation, to to and to years = six. but never left the states. I made e five in specialists grade. I made that rank in 13 months. my mistake was not staying in and making a career out of it. In my mos. was open to specialist grade of warrant officer grade 4. possible, could made that in 20 or so years and retired with a $2,ooo or better years. but you know about hind sight. see you all tomorrow.

I'm just going to say a quick "Good Night Everyfriend".  Today was definitely a strange day and tomorrow promises to be pretty much the same.  Lots of stuff to do and not enough time to do it.

It rained off and on all day today.  We managed our walks in between the rain.  And it wasn't hard rain, just steady.

I'm off to the haystack!  I have a feeling the zzzzzs are calling me already.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, feel-better, get-well tomorrow.  And may God bless us, everyone.

P.S.  AMY, I hope you didn't overdo it with your hand!

We enjoyed a beautiful Veterans Day here in the Mile High City.

We went to our local National Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Logan today.  What better way to feel patriotic than looking at the rows and rows of the white headstones.  Sadly there was no service due to Covid😢

I enjoyed reading about all the loved ones that served in the military..... so thankful to all for our freedom 🇺🇸🇺🇸  My Dad served in the Merchant Marines in WW II and was responsible for getting supplies to the troops.

AMY, happy to read the doctor appointment went well and you are going REMEMBER to do what the doctor encouraged you to do😘😘😘. Happy you got your van in for the  new starter and now you are ready for the cold winter.

JANE, how lucky you were able to get your car in to the mechanic before he is gone for the two weeks👍👍. I hope it will not be anything too costly for the repair🤞🤞

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

A poignant day for all who have had fathers - uncles, who fought for our countries, as my late father did...He was in the Paras regiment who fought on the frontline against both the Germans and the Japs...North Africa and Italy...
And as for the " Japs " what they done with their bayonets, to baby's and  pregnant women, they dont show that in the war films.....my father saw it, and using my fathers words " the Japs were B**s..

Some good news coming on my early morning tv news, was also mentioned yesterday of our UK Queen Elizabeth's soon to be 70 years rein...In 18 months time UK is to be treated to an extra day off to mark our Queens 70 years on the throne...Told it will be a weekend of celebration's for her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee...I well remember her Silver Jubilee 1977, i was 26, her Golden Jubilee 2002, i was 51, her Diamond Jubilee 2012, and i hope i shall be around 2022 for her Platinum, also hope Prince Philip will be too..She is a brilliant Queen, i amongst many others only have admiration for her...
And boy, does UK need something to look forwards to, after the nightmare we have been living through, and still am living through...

Good morning.

I think we are headed back to normal temps now, sure enjoyed the above normal ones we have had .

Yesterday a lot got done that wasn't planned so today is follow through on the planned  duties. Would like to make some pasty so we shall see how that goes.

Jane, hope you get your car back soon. Jane is there ever enough time in a day anymore?? Retirement should be full of empty time but that is not so!

Gloria, I wore a man's snowmobile suit to the barn in the winter, really kept one warm. Plus it came in handy when Granny was lambing...she couldn't push as she always had 3 big lambs and I would bring them into the world, wrap two in towels and put them in the suit with me. I would give her the last one to look after and I would head to the house to warm up and take care of the two, then take them back to her to look after. That suit got a lot of wear!!

Jenny, the Dr was so nice...they seem to get younger and younger these days :) You soon learn what can and can not be done  for the time being.

Patricia, Dad helped bring two families to Canada from Holland and the one named their son after my Dad. When the women would go back for a visit my Mom went with them. Interesting stories came back on how they lived over there. One that stuck was you bought a roast from the butcher, cooked it at home and took it back to the butcher and he would cut it paper thin for you. Back then every glass jar had a deposit on it  also.
I see you caught that... alliterative grand slam.

Lloyd, hindsight is always late in coming  but life has a way of working itself out for you. Hope you and Nancy are keeping well.

Shirley , hope you are feeling tickity boo today...with a bit more energy..

Better get ready to meet the day here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

...do you have fond memories of Joan FL welcoming in our J's members, including our June Drabek and Jeanne Lee, as we entered into our Soda Shoppe one by one, in the early mornings, we were known as the J's... If i remember correctly, Joan referred to us ( Jackie-Joan-Jane ) as the three J's, we were the first three to arrive... ahh, those were the days... ;)

Even "Mr. Rogers" would not find it a pleasant day in my neighborhood.  Pouring down rain right now with flooding all around.  We are OK here but waterlogged and really tired of the wet dreary weather.

I'll make a grocery list but will ask David to pick it up tomorrow.  It is supposed to be a little less rainy, I hope.

Take care, All.

Good Morning everyone. I had a late sleep in this morning, just got up and in here. do not feel rested I also still have a nasty cough, bad Sinise drainage, so likely a good nap time with a good western. is in order.

Lloyd

Shirley

I'm here... just thinking. I've discovered I can spend hours just sitting and remembering... and wishing about nothing in particular.  The sun is shining (we need rain, Phyllis) but the trees aren't moving right now. I am determined to do more today, this has been "one crappy year" so far, but we're still here so not all bad.  If Callie was here she'd be wishing us all a .."Thuper Thursday"... or maybe that's "Terrific Thursday"???  ;)  Shirley

I can see through the trees to the river where a flock of sea gulls are dancing in the air, looking for food. Their white wings flash as they bopp up & down.

Lloyd, I'm having the same issues with drainage & sinuses hurting, but the nurse told me yesterday that "they are trying not to mix antibiotic with Covid, they just don't know all the problems it can cause"... so be patient (as my Mom always said to me)..

mycheal

YES I AM A DAY LATE, Veterans Day (November 11 in the United States) honors and celebrates the service of all military veterans. With respect, honor, and gratitude: thank you for your patriotism, love of country, and willingness to sacrifice for the common good. You heard the call of duty and left the lives you knew to answer it. When we think of veterans, we often think of our friends and family.

mycheal

Second thought, I am ok as every day is Veterans Day, WE shall never forget

Good Morning Everfriend!  My day started early and since Frankie is coming to take me out to pick up my car, I decided this would be a good day to do laundry.  Laundry doesn't care if you walk out and leave it.  She just texted me to say that as soon as she takes Cooper for a walk she'll be over.

Mycheal, how nice to come in and see your post.  I think of you when I see you and when I miss you.  Come back.  It was a nice post in honor of the vets.

Now I'm going to get back to work.  The sun is trying to come out from behind the clouds but it's not going to be as warm as it was for the past almost 2 weeks.  I do believe Winter is closing in on us!

I wish you all  great day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to let us in on what you're doing!  We're interested!

All appointments made...but one....that one will come when time permits. My friend is picking up more elastic for masks and I am picking up items for her on Mon.

Jane, I picked up more saltines plus some butter crackers to start with your recipe. Not sure if there is enough chocolate wafers but will make  what I can till I get some more.

Mycheal, I do hope you are keeping safe from this Covid...there will come a day when we can look back and say we survived!! I do think we should honor our vets  all year round for the sacrifice they have given for us.

Now to tackle the apples... I hope.

Shirley,  you mentioned that
I could get myself something to
heat up my bed before retiring for
the night  and I think that I have
bought the perfect thing.

Below is a picture of the
"heated vest"  that I bought
from  Amazon.

it has six heat settings and I
can wear it across my back, shoulders
and neck when I am sitting here
at the computer.

Or open it up and lay it
flat in my sleeper tent to
heat up the mattress before
I get in for the night...

So it should serve me double
duty when the really cold cold
days come this Winter..

Thanks for the suggestion that
I heat up my bed before jumping in it.

I don't mind sleeping in  a cold
room as long as I have covers to
keep me warm ...  but it is nice to
crawl into a nice warm spot, to start.

Just a quick note to our "authentic Nature Girl", Shirley.  I have been adopted by a beautiful mockingbird.  He comes to my front porch, sits on the railing and looks at the front door until I open it up.  I talk to him for a bit, and he leans his head to and fro as if he's listening.  I asked him (lol) if he wanted some bread?  Then I noticed he jumped down to where the water faucet is.  So I asked about water? When  I opened the screen, he flew off.  I looked at the faucet and noticed it had a small drip. So I went to fetch a bit of bread and a container bowl for some water. Put that out there, and after the postman came, I went out for the mail, and what do you know, the bread was already gone.  I'm sure he will be back for a drink later!  This was so much fun. Nothing to compare to feeding the catfish though, Shirley.

Good morning from an icy Interior where it is just 2° and raining! The rest of the month is forecast to bounce back and forth between plus and minus temperatures.

I received an email from a cousin who told me that my maternal great grandmother was German. She wanted to know what I had found from Ancestory.com. We have 4% Germanic Europe which includes Germany. Austria, Switzerland & Central Europe and 4% Norwegian and Sweden.

The rest is mainly Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.  I signed up with ancestry wanting to see if family lore matched up with their DNA results. I was surprised to find that I could have saved my money as family lore had it right.

Amy, I wish I knew more about what my family went through during their wars, but my mother told me that it was horrible and not to ask and bring memories back. I know that both sides had men that served and those that died. My family is among the stiff upper lip clans, or perhaps that is more common among farmers?

Amy

Tomereader, what a delight  you had!! Maybe you will be able to take a photo of the mockingbird?

Patricia, my family is the same, never hear any complaints by either Mom or Dad about anything!

Goodness knows there are more than enough that steady complain.....never thankful for one thing in life! We lost a Reynard today, I knew as soon as I saw the glistening red fur in the distance. Looked healthy , no sign of sickness but just couldn't compete with traffic :(

Just made two applecrisps.....will ask the neighbour to meet me at the fence. :)

Amy, that was sad about the fox. For some reason, we have more black ones here.

I would have loved a bit more transparency, but my Dad felt we did not need to know what wasn't "our business." When I was taking Criminal Justice, as a sophomore and the Miranda Rights came out. My assignment was to interview both command and the officers on the street for their views.

My Dad was foreman of the city's Public Works Department, and he was upset when he heard I had been interviewing the police. Again, not my place! It was the sixties and a volatile time between teens and parents.

Tomereader, I didn't think we had mockingbirds here but upon searching, found we did. I haven't seen one, just like we have flying squirrels locally. But I have never seen one of those either. I, too, would love a photo!

Carol

Good day everyone!  I hope and pray all is well with each of you!

We stay mostly hunkered down, I bought a new bread baker when the old one stopped being trustworthy.  We shall see how the oatmeal bread turns out - I accidentally set it to bake right away instead of a delay for dinnertime.  Not a big deal - we are really minding the words of the experts.  Sometimes, feeling lonesome for not visiting in person.  However, the quilting group has a monthly Zoom meeting and we enjoy those special nights.  Our sons hauled a stationary bike up stairs and that thing is set between the dining table and living room couch.  Not great to look at but we keep on forcing the physical therapy the doctor has me on & Don is good to keep up on it as well  No one comes now - it is too chilly to sit on the deck or downstairs patio area.  I had the gas fireplace in the walk-out basement fixed - it is so nice and cozy there now so we like to do our reading or sometimes watch one of the few channels that come in on the t.v.  So it goes at our house much like everyone else.
are still some issues with the Colorado fires - they are better every day.  The aftermath of all these fires has ruined many beautiful areas that will take many decades to get back to the beautiful scenery. One grandson who graduated university is now talking about training as a fireman.  They sure are kept busy in this state.

You should see the huge book one son loaned me - it is a Chronicle of the 20th century.  Since history is my favorite class - it is super to have this distraction.

Keep on keeping on-----

Amy

Carol I received this in an email and thought it cute.

Oh the virus out there is frightful
But this fabric is so delightful!
And since we have no place to go.

Patricia, now you have me curious and I will be looking black fox up!

We had tried to get a friend/war vet to put his story on tape but no amount of coaxing worked. A part of history but best forgotten.

Shirley

Sandy, that looks like the perfect solution.. for all times! I wear vests all winter & most of summer because I like my back warm & arms free to move. Be nice to slip out of it & while still warm let it heat up your bed.

Tome, we've had several encounters with mocking birds but one is almost unbelievable. We were visiting my husband's mother & brother back in eastern TN & one day noticed a mocking bird that was "everywhere we were", front yard or back, at the neighbors ... it seemed to follow & like yours, listen to us talk to it. Finally it was getting on my husband's nerves because it never shut up!!!  Time for us to head back to KS & we usually cut the trip in half with a nap at a rest center in western Kentucky. 2:00 am & we streched out in the back of the van, little side windows with screens & the whole parking lot full of other travelers sleeping. Would you believe a mocking bird sat on a limb right over our van & started singing??? NO JOKE!  I did not know they sing all night, but this one did. I know it wasn't the one from his mother's yard, but we gave up & boogied out of there & stopped on the east side of St.Louis to time it right for going through rush hour traffic. We do have them here but with the cats, I don't encourage them. They are such friendly birds & smart. The reason the robin decided we made good hosts was because I used those big snack trays (remember those '50s things we ate on while watching TV?)  The baby ducks we inherited from a neighbor liked their food on those trays with water to slurp up... I cooked them rice, lettuce shredded from the grocery store.. bread & anything else I could picture them eating down along the river. Noticed a robin was helping itself to bites of bread & a regular at the tray. That robin became such a pet we played games with it (tossing bread in the air to catch) & it built nests to watch front or back garage doors so we could help feed her babies. 8 years of photos of that bird & her mates & babies...They can still be free and fun to visit with, hope to hear more of your "Molly"...

Amy, so sorry about your reynard... had to look it up because all I've ever seen are the red or gray squirrels in MO & KS.... but we did watch a family of black squirrels in CO one trip. Quite a few squirrels around here & one neighbor spent all the years we've known them, trying to outsmart those squirrels. He even bought the corn cob holders that had little seats on each side for squirrels to dine on... and every type birdseed feeder that was supposed to be "squirrel proof".  His eyes would light up when he found something to confuse them for a while.

My brother that was in the Navy the last year of WWII has put down a lot about his adventures, some hard to believe but factual. He kept track of the one captured by the Germans and somewhere has records of everything. His wife is just starting to go through his stuff so I hope she will share along the way. The brother in the Air Corp never got over some sounds, he would not be saying a thing & all of a sudden his shirt would be wringing wet. I'm sure it was like my reaction yesterday when I heard "Doc" overhead. That sound hit my ears and the tears flowed... doc ww2 plane ... We are so lucky to have it saved and fly here now & then, but this time I hadn't thought about it & I was even putting the flag out! Those war years were the center of our life, like we held our breath until "our boys came home".

Ah, so much I wanted to day but weariness has taken over & got to get me ready for bed. Thanks to all for sharing your worlds. Mycheal, it's been a while, glad to see you.

Carol, I also love reading history & have thoroughly enjoyed reading the old history & geography books that came from my father's house. The thoughts of that particular time... so interesting. One book starts out, "It has been nearly 10 years since the end of the war between the north and south......"  So I started looking at books at Estate sales, at the library book sales... and history books are a "dime a dozen".

I've got to get ready for bed, it's been a long & busy for me, day. I love coming here to see how everyone else is doing. OH... Jackie, I do agree that Queen Elizabeth is the one human in the world that has lived her life with the greatest respect for duty and never in MY lifetime, done anything to tarnish my opinion of her.

I only wish she could have Prince Charles and Prince William share the duties when she retires, I don't think anyone will forget that their love (Charles & Camilla) drove Diana to what happened to her. Sad that Charles wasn't strong enough to demand his right to marry Camilla, but those long ago years "duty" was expected after the Duke of Windsor gave up the throne.

I'm sure there will be more posts when I shut up, but I'm outta here tonight. God Bless All..

JaneS

I'm on my way to Dreamland.  It's been another of those strange and busy days.  I did get three loads of laundry done in between.  The rest was more stuff that kept poking up it's head.

I've been thinking about a good friend whose husband has had two short stays in the hospital and today I was going to call her to check up on him.  The first thing I read in today's paper was the obituaries and Bob was in there.  I cried for them both!  She will really miss him after 53 years of marriage!  I spent some time writing a letter to her in place of a purchased card.  I'm sure she will appreciate it a lot more than a card.

Now I'm off to the haystack to look for some zzzzs.  I'm pretty sure there will be plenty on hand!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, get-well, feel-better tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

P.S.  Got my car back.  All it needed was a battery!

A late night post on the eve of Friday the 13th 😵😱

SHIRLEY, I think you sounded better today so hope that means you are indeed feeling stronger!  That is quite the mocking bird story.  They sure can be noisy and become very annoying.

AMY, how sad about the Raynard passing.....wonder what happened?

JANE, SO happy your car only needed a battery.....sure less of a expense than it could have been😘

SANDY, the heated vest sounds like a great idea.

CAROL, good to see your post. We sure have been enjoying our warmer weather and our clear blue skies❣️ Guess you heard that our county is going back to on line learning after the Thanksgiving weekend.  Not sure WHY they are waiting....why not right away?  Our grandson will have his freshman football game tomorrow but it will be the last one. He is normally the long snapper but tomorrow he will be playing center and is excited about it.  JV and varsity have been on quarantine so they will not play anymore games.  The big book, Chronicle of the 20th century should keep you good and busy this winter😘  When are you going to Tucson?

PATRICIA, it makes me sad that you were not allowed to ask questions that would have answered questions that you had about the war or family.  Sad too that you were made to feel badly because your dad did not want you to ask questions of the officers.  We were raised in a time when children were to be seen and not heard😩😩

For years I never saw a black squirrel in Colorado and just recently I have seen several.  I have never seen a black fox but I have been told they are here.

I am off to bed before the clock strikes 12!  Pleasant dreams to all.

Amy

Good morning

We are now back to frosty morning after being spoiled by the warmer weather. Clear ski with a temp of 20° so far today.

Need to finish the apples today, some into apple sauce and the rest into pie filling.

Jane, happy to read it was just your battery. I am sorry to read of your friends passing, a letter would mean more to her with your comforting thought.

Jenny, I would say a vehicle hit the fox. He had such a beautiful shiny coat so I don't think  it had any health problems. We do have a family of fox in the field across the road  and I have watched them playing.

Sandy, that is a perfect solution for day and night!!

Shirley , do you think you are at the tail end of this virus? Is it/symptoms starting to let up? Hope you feels a lot better today.

Gloria, where are you? Hope everything is alright..

Lloyd, hope you are feeling better too.

Better get peeling apples...thank goodness for the apple peeler :)

Enjoy your day and stay safe.
