We've been confined to our rooms again...for two weeks. A third-shift staff member in the locked Memory Unit has tested positive. We (out here) have no contact with those staff members, but it's still in the building, so out of caution, we're having meals in our rooms again, etc.

Is anybody making plans for Thanksgiving?  We usually have our family get-together on the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day. It's been at Margaret's house since John died, and she's been trying to make a decision as to what to do this year. After long thought and consideration, I've decided to take myself out of the mix. It's just too many people from different locations, and with my medical history, it's just safer for me. And it means they can make decisions without having me to worry about.  I hate it, but know it's the right decision.

jane, you mentioned the testing. Our Executive Director told me the other day that she is expecting to have a test soon that can be done here in our facility, with same-day results. I guess that's something that "corporate" is going to provide for all the Morning Pointe facilities.  Sounds good to me - hope it happens.

Hugs to you all!!  Stay safe and well.

Maryz...
...just popped in to read....it is heart-breaking how our lives have now been upturned, re, your third shift staff member, and having to be confined to ones rooms...we never ever thought this would one day be our way of life...
Yes wise as we have to consider our own medical issues...your Thanksgiving decision...
The way things are going here in UK, i feel for the very first time our Christmas will be cancelled for many, ( tv news tells us it hangs in the balance ) as we are going through our second wave, another one month lock-down......

Boy oh boy, you are sure going to have
your hands full with a move to
California... but it sounds like that
would work better for you and Keith.

Best wishes with your new endeavor .
Sounds like there is going to be a lot
more people to help you.

Where in California will you be
moving to?

Keep it simple,  as the old
saying goes... imho, less is better
when it comes to moving, IMHO

Hi, Sandy and V-J!

Mary...wise choice on T'giving.  I did the same thing.  Patricia and Donal wanted to come down and also their son, his wife and baby.  I talked to her and we agree this isn't the time.  We're full with covid...and just learned Kathy has tested positive. Not a surprise.   My sister in Ohio can't get a test.  The oncall doc told her to try CVS...she tried...nobody in a 100 mile radius could test her, so she's given up.  Some sceptics say it's overcounted.  I think it's undercounted!

It's a cold, dreary, windy and wet day here...sound like November?   ;D

My excitement this morning was hunting again for the remote for my heater/ac in the kitchen.  FINALLY found it after I was sure I'd have to buy a new one.   ;D

Watching football and will watch some feel-good Christmas movies on Hallmark movies and mysteries tonight.

Stay safe Buddies!

Hi Gals, Sorry I've been AWOL for a while. We're fine, but I got involved in a Beth Moore Bible Study at the Main Bldg and it's turning out to be more work than I had thought it would be.  Brian's birthday was Saturday, his wife's is the 18th. Veteran's Day was this week. They brought John a red rose with a card on it for him. I thought it was a nice thing to do, but he wasn't too impressed. He never liked the Army because he was drafted and shouldn't have been when he was practically blind in one eye, but we were to young to know how to fight it.  However we are very proud of my cousin who was a Brigadier General, our AF son who was a Colonel and our grandson who was a Marine and my brother who was a Marine and Brian's son who will be commissioned next May as a 2nd LT in the AF. Not many military in John's family but lots in ours, even going back to the Revolutionary war.

In addition to all this, it was rainy and cold here due to ETA which meant I was stiff and hurting all over. I was hurting so much yesterday, I woke up at 4 AM and had to take a Tramadol, so didn't get up till 9:30.

I'm sorry Jane's neighbors are sick and that Mary is quarantined again. Millie is out of quarantine. They seem to have a handle on the virus among the staff here, at least so far. They are still taking our temps.

Marilyn, I commented on FB about your move. I think it is the best thing. Try to get a place with tile floors, so you won't have the cat urine smell.  Or are you going to try t find a home for the cats? I'm sure Keith would have a fit about that. Glad the one son is coming down. It's about time. They all should have pitched in long ago. Good luck and stay safe.

Hi to everyone who has popped in. Glad you are all safe.  We will not have a family TG either. It's not worth the risk. Probably not at Christmas either.   Stay safe everyone.  Sharon

jane

Sharon...Sleep in as late as you like.  I do when I don't have any appts and I don't have any doc or dentist until January and my haircuts are afternoon times.  That's retirement for me...getting up when I feel like it.  8)

It's cold, (mid 30s), dreary, overcast and maybe rain or snow to come here, and high winds...40-50 mph!  I brought two of my hanging feeders into the shop.  They were swinging in the wind.  The birds aren't out...winds too high, I suspect.  Almost all the leaves are off the trees that lose them at this time.

Lunch is over (tomato soup) and supper is in the crock pot (shredded beef/gravy to go over noodles).  There'll be enough for tomorrow, too.

I came online to check my checking account, but got detoured here.   :o

Take care and stay healthy and safe, Buddies!

Marilyn

Last weekend we had a wonderful visit with Kyle (middle son)

Sandy we would be moving to Arcata, I am hoping to get into the manufactured home senior park there. Here we have no help except for the lady who cleans for me. I  plan on oly taking 2 of the cats, ones that don't urinate except in the litter box. Keith main cat, Fritzy will have to learn to only pee in the box, he used to before the other cats came along. One of the little black kitties is a good boy I hate to have to give him  to Kohl's Lotty Kare. But he and Buddy along  with Sunny have to go whre they will get a good home.

Keith's boys think that memory care wold be best for Keith and they certainly don't want me to have to stay here in this house where it is so toxic to my health, it has to be sold, none of the family wants it.

maryz

Marilyn, will you be finding a memory care place for Keith when you move?  It's good that you're getting some help from his sons - financial help, too?

We had a lot of wind and a few rain squalls this morning as a front came through. But the sun in out for a lovely fall day this afternoon. I've gotten my Christmas checks written, put in cards, and gotten ready for delivery. I always try to do this so I can hand-deliver them at Thanksgiving, but I don't know how that will happen this year. I've "sent" them in the weekly packet to Margaret so she can decide how to do that.

Sharon, I'm with Sue on the morning wake-up. Unless there's some specific reason to get up, I see no reason for a schedule. I'm amazed that there are some folks who live here who get up with an alarm clock.

We've gotten an e-mail from  my granddaughter in Annapolis, MD. She and their four foster kids were thinking about coming to Margaret's for Thanksgiving, but found out the 3-year-old had been exposed to someone with the virus and was having to quarantine. And, of course, I was out of the mix anyway.   Guess that was sort-of good timing. Hope the little one will be okay.

Have a good week, Buddies!

Marilyn...hope you can get that new home quickly.

Mary...things seem to work out as they should.

Have a safe and healthy week!

Jane

Marilyn

Mary yes I will be looking into memory care for Keith after we get moved. His boys aren;t helping me at all, no one is.

jane

Marilyn...how sad for you that the three, including the MD, care so little.

My brother-in-law is in the hospital with covid.  My sis called me last night as they sat in the parking lot of a hospital, awaiting his turn in the ER.  Their doc had told them to go there when his oxygen fell into the 80s.  It took several hours, but he was finally inside. They then had no beds available and transferred him at 7:00am this morning to a hospital in another town.  The nurse told her both lungs show infection.  She, of course, couldn't go in, so their only contact is by cellphone.

"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Hi Gals. Jane, I'm so sorry to hear about your BIL. Hope he heals quickly and doesn't need tubes, etc.

I usually get up between 8:30 and 9:00 but John thinks I'm a slug a bed.He is up by 7:00 at the latest. Which is good in a way, because he takes Bunny out.

Marilyn, I think it's terrible that his sons aren't helping any, but am glad they think he needs memory care. My best wishes for an easy move and finding a memory care nearby where you plan to move. I'm glad you're down-sizing on the cats to the ones that don't pee and just use the litter box.

Mary, I guess everything works out for the best. Hope the little girl doesn't get too sick.

I've finally caught up on my Bible study. We have discussion today and video tomorrow.

Darlene, glad it's nice there. it's pretty chilly here. Most of the leaves are down, even the oak leaves which usually hang on till spring. Maybe it depends on the variety though.

They planted pansies in the flower bed in front of our villa. Glad to see that. Hope they get enough sun though.

They have stopped the 3 dining rooms and their differing menus and now are back to the main dining room. Only 20 allowed, spread out. No more plastic dishes and silver, back to china and stainless and a better menu. We thoroughly enjoyed it last night. Will go again tonight.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.  Sharon.

jane

It's a very windy, but warmer day here, I guess.  I'm not walking today.

BIL now on redemsever (or whatever the spelling is), an antibiotic, oxygen, and compression hose to prevent blood clots (apparently also part of covid).  She has a number to call and a pin number to get updates on him.  She's going to have her daughter, an RN, call, since she knows what to ask, etc.

Nothing else new here.  I told our Friday night people I am taking a break from that. I just don't think it's safe.

jane

maryz

Sharon, Abby (3 year-old) doesn't have the virus, but has been exposed to someone with it. Hence her quarantine. Hopefully, she'll be just fine.

jane, I hope all is going well with BIL's treatment. I know you're worried.

I understand about your staying in. I'm beginning to think we all need to pretty much stay by ourselves for a while longer.

Marilyn, sorry you're not getting any help from his boys. But at least you're getting support from your boys. Do you have a time frame set up for your move?

Darlene, I hope you have a good Thanksgiving time with your family.

Happy Holiday time to all of us and our families - and good health!

Good mild Thursday morning!  The landscape people are here cutting down and raking out all the weeds in my flower beds.  It's in the 50s so pleasant for them to work.  She said it's been their busiest year yet...and they've had to turn down a 1/2 year's worth of work.  I'm glad their work is flourishing while others are not.

My neighbors and friends invited me for Thanksgiving and I declined.  He's been sick with covid, though she won't say that...some sort of dark secret...for at least two weeks, and she's had it or has it as well.  She's got him out walking a bit everyday and he lags behind her as she walks.  Nope, not going to be there.

Gilbert  is so right about  Keith's son's. They lived all their previous lives in this house and helped to accumulate all the CRAP that is here, Gilbert says they should come and help me git rid of stuff. There is so much that needs to go into the garbage even furniture that the cats have ruined. There are two antique chairs that are completely torn up by Keith damn cats.

Mary no specific time frame hopefully sometime next year.

Gilbert and Sonja are on their way to Kauai, I wish I was going too. Gilbert wants me to get a single wide but I do not want to be so claustrophobic in a single wide. I am looking at a 2-3 bedroom because no way am I going to sleep in the same bed or bedroom with Keith, I would never get any sleep. If he isn't always turning on the light he leave it on all night.

Cottoncandy

Hi Buddies......hope everyone is able to avoid the virus...numbers are climbing....Those of you reading that has a laptop computer and IPad....which one do you like the best or use the most...My desktop crashed...so wanting to either get a laptop or new IPad......thanks in advance....CC

maryz

Darlene, I use a laptop for most of my "searching" and some games. And I have a tablet (an Android, not Apple) where I play a number of games and used to take instead of my laptop when I traveled. I also have a smart phone (Android) where I have most of my books (so I always have a book with me), but otherwise use it just for communication and my calendar. Haven't used a desktop in many years. Good luck with making your decision.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

CC: I haven't had a desktop for years, either.  I have both a laptop and an Ipad.  I think if I had to have only one, I'd go with the laptop.  I think, for me, it's more versatile.

Marilyn...how nice Gilbert and Sonja can go to Hawaii.  I've never been there.

My neighbor came over and helped me with the goofy electrical outlet in my garage I somehow managed to knock the casing off of.  He went out and got a new one and just finished putting it on.  So, that's taken care of.

My BIL had a bad yesterday afternoon...maybe a TIA...confused and words that came out didn't make sense...so an MRI and neurologist wanted a CAT scan so that, too, but nothing showed.  They did increase his blood thinner into his stomach some more.

It's chilly here...50s and I need to bundle up a bit and get out for a walk, though it won't be a long one, I suspect.  I'm going to change to something heavier on my legs.

I talked to my neighbor and he says he's feeling better, but still short of breath.

This morning I also got my chest freezer in the garage defrosted and a couple things tossed away and others rearranged.  I tend to forget what's in there, but I took out a bowl of beef stew for supper tonight.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

Beautiful Saturday morning greetings.  It's in the mid 40s and no wind, so I laced on the walking shoes and got a mile in this morning.  That's the best I've done in a long time.  Enroute home, I called my sister and she and my BIL answered.  She'd gone to Cleveland..2-2.5 hours...to be ready to get him and they were just getting home about noon, their time.
My BIL sounds good.  He said the awful fatigue still hangs on.  I'm glad he's home and sounded as good as he did.

Nothing exciting here...watching the Ohio State-Indiana game since Clemson-FL State was canceled right before the start...covid.

I love having my freezer cleaned out and rearranged.  I know the experts say to keep it full, but I hate it that way.  I can't see what all is there and can't move things around.  I had to throw out the beef stew last night...in there too long and no taste.  I have veg soup out for tonight.  I'm also moving some stuff from freezer under my fridge out to the garage freezer so I can see things in there, too.

I think tomorrow or Monday I'll start to get out a few Christmas decorations.  I have a wreath I'll put on the front door and that'll be my outside decorations.  :D

I hope you're all safe and ok.

jane

Hi Gals. Sorry I've skipped posting for so many days. I don't know why, just busy or tired, I guess.

Jane, I'm so glad your BIL is on his way home now and feeling better. That sounds like quite an improvement. I'm also glad you decided to skip having TG with the neighbors. I can't imagine keeping Covid secret and wanting to be around people.

We have been so blessed that no one in our family has gotten it except for John's sister and that was such a light case, it hardly counted.  We're keeping our heads down. We do go to the main bldg occasionally for dinner or activities, but they are very careful.  Our TG dinner is going to be delivered. We can't even have it in the dining room. I guess there are too many people to seat safely.

Lori and family (including Leyton) will call us TG afternoon for a video chat which will be fun. Otherwise, same old, same old.

Darlene, glad you can be with your family. I have both, but use the laptop almost always. But stay safe.

Marilyn, have you given up on putting Keith in memory care? If he were in there, a single wide would be a lot cheaper.  They have companies that will come load up junk and cart it off.

Mary, guess you and Jane and I will have to entertain each other. Can all of you eat in the dining room?

Pretty chilly here this AM but sunny.

Stay safe everyone.  Sharon

jane

Monday morning sunshine here...but in the high 30s.  I got up and was at WalMart by 9:00 for my big shopping and picking up prescriptions.  Brought that home and put it away and back on the road north 16 miles with my stove remote to find out how to get the thermostat back.  When I turned off the electricity while my neighbor worked on an electrical outlet in the garage, the thermostat seemed to disappear from my remote screen.  I couldn't find the company in my phone book, so just drove up.
They gave me the "secret handshake" for how to restore it.  So, I left there and drove back toward home, stopping at the locker in a town on the way home to get a bit of their hamburger for my freezer.  I like to have it on hand for burgers or tacos or whatever.

Back home and took a very short walk in the crisp air.  I also called my neighbors who'd left a message wondering how my BIL, whom they've met, was.  I called them and he now has pneumonia and apparently in both lungs.  He tells me they are out of the quarantine for covid, but I'm not so sure about that.  I prefer to stay home and be extra safe.

I'm all set for a week, and wanted all of this done before the weather changes tonight into tomorrow with the famous "wintery mix" which means..."who knows what will fall from the sky!"

My sister said BIL slowly improving.  Doctor will call him tomorrow for a televisit and rheumatologist at Cleveland CLinic is to call today.  Hospital already called to see how he's doing.

AND there are still men walking around in WalMart without masks.   :knuppel2:  :knuppel2:  :knuppel2:

So....please take care, stay safe and healthy!  AND do drop in and let us know you're ok...even if there's nothing exciting to report.  Nobody has anything exciting, but we want to know how you are.

jane

maryz

I'm still doing business at the same old stand. And I've found out we'll probably be room-confined until 5 December. I could go to Margaret's for the duration, but I have too much stuff to move with me for that length of time. It's just easier to stay here. I have plenty to do. Some of the folks here don't do anything, except activities provided, or in-and-out with family. So if that can't happen, they stay in their rooms and watch TV all day long. Anyhow, it works for me to stay put, and let others run errands for me.

Our family Thanksgiving has always been on the Saturday after - usually with an assortment of friends to go with family. That won't be happening this year. But Kate and Jean are going to be at Margaret's for the weekend. I'll see them sometime - for a window visit. And I'm going to Skype with grandson Matt and great-grandson Alden this evening. He's 7 months old and has started to crawl. Another precious baby.

jane, glad your BIL is doing okay with the virus, but pneumonia is nothing to be ignored. I agree your neighbors are to be avoided in person for the immediate future. Definitely strange behavior. Our temps are currently seasonable - from the 60s for highs to the 30s for lows, but lots of sunshine - at least today.

Sharon, glad the move to the new place is working well for you. It seems to have come with good timing vis-a-vis the Covid issue. All our meals are being delivered - most are pretty good. But there are usually some clinkers away. We do have microwaves and small refrigerators, so there can be a minimum of storage and reheating possibilities.

I'm sure the rest of y'all are checking in from time to time. Do write sometimes - even though our lives seem to be very monotonous right now.

Stay well, Buddies!

Same place here, too, Mary, but with SNOW on the ground.  It fell overnight and was supposed to disappear with the rain this afternoon.  Well, we've got the drippy, drizzly stuff, but we also still have snow on the roofs and yards.  Roads are just wet, naturally.

I'm glad I did my errands yesterday.  It's gloomy, wet, and cold.

I've texted with both parts of the family...sister says BIL looking and feeling better and he did his conference online meeting with work people (He's still working for them on contract).  Also texted with Wisconsin family...and they're cold and gloomy, too.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals. Nothing really changed here. We had eye appts yesterday and John's are still stable and mine haven't changed either. Today, I've been fussing with the scanner to scan a bridge card to one of John's partners. Finally got it done. Hope she can read it. I took a picture with the cell and when the texting didn't work, I emailed it and she got it.

It's chilly here (in the 6o's) but sunny. Lots of leaves. I had to buy a broom last week to sweep our porch, sidewalk, and balcony. They blow the leaves occasionally, but they are still on the ground and the balcony and falling off the trees.

We're going over to the main dining room at 5:30. I think it will be the only day this week.  John went to the grocery this AM.

No other news from us. Mary, I', so jealous of your seeing your little grandson so often, even if you can't play with him. Still beats his being in Minneapolis or Indianapolis!!

Jane, it sounds like you are still staying busy with your freezers, etc.
We have a freezer the size of a microwave! And the fridge under it is about 4-5 ft high.  But it really is enough for us since we get meals delivered or at the main dining room except for breakfast and lunch..

I'm glad everyone is staying healthy. We seldom go out except for drs or John to the grocery.

Stay safe everyone and have a blessed, healthy thanksgiving.  Sharon

maryz

I got some good news today. I asked the Exec Director if I could possibly sit and talk to my girls outside, and she told me that I could actually go to Margaret's house for the day!!!!  I'll have to be tested when I return, which they can do here with quick results, and then stay in my room for two weeks. But we were having meals in our rooms for those two weeks anyway. I'm sure I'll get to see that great-grandbaby, too.  :smitten:  We certainly won't have the full house that is usually there, but it'll be good to see 3 of my 4 girls in person anyway - masks and all.

jane, I think it's your weather front that is coming through here tonight and tomorrow. At least we won't have snow - just wind and rain.

Sharon, your fridge is bigger than mine, even if not a good size. Mine is the under-counter/dorm size.

Happy, safe, healthy Thanksgiving, Buddies!
