Island In The Sun
(Harry Belafonte/Lord Burgess)

This is my island in the sun
Where my people have toiled since time begun
I may sail on many a sea
Her shores will always be home to me

Oh, island in the sun
Willed to me by my father's hand
All my days I will sing in praise
Of your forest, waters, your shining sand

As morning breaks the heaven on high
I lift my heavy load to the sky
Sun comes down with a burning glow
Mingles my sweat with the earth below

Oh, island in the sun
Willed to me by my father's hand
All my days I will sing in praise
Of your forest, waters, your shining sand

I see woman on bended knee
Cutting cane for her family
I see man at the waterside
Casting nets at the surging tide

Oh, island in the sun
Willed to me by my father's hand
All my days I will sing in praise
Of your forest, waters, your shining sand

I pray the day will never come
When I can't awake to the sound of drum
Never let me miss carnival
With calypso songs philosophical

Oh, island in the sun
Willed to me by my father's hand
All my days I will sing in praise
Of your forest, waters, your shining sand
Mmmmm

*~*~*~* The Angel *~*~*~*
Why is it that you were taken away,
I had so much left to say.
We had shared so much together,
it never mattered what the weather.
If things were good, when things were bad...
If we were happy, when we were sad...
You were always there for me,
whenever, I needed you to be.

We grew up together, you and I.
now we've said our last "good bye."
At first, it was extremely hard for me,
to live without, things that used to be.
Each night I lie down, I think of you.
all of the things you had gone through.
The pain of watching you loose your life,
I prayed each night you would win the fight...
Now you are gone, and I must carry on.

I picture you now in such  "bright light,"
laughing with me, with such delight.
Close to my heart you will always be,
the "Angel" who  watches over me.
I will always Love you my "Friend,"
I await the day we meet again!

Good morning to All.

And Happy Birthday to everyone who is having one, or who just had one, or will soon have one.  I hope that takes care of everyone I have forgotten, am forgetting, or will forget.  ::)

Good morning everyone, been reading the posts from yesterday. Woke late yesterday and was just sitting down here and second son got here. Then soon after older son got here. Busy morning. when they finally left I got my breakfast, already after noon time. By the time I finished and washed the few dishes I was on the couch for a 3 hour nap. Think I am bored with my own company?
Have only  talked to my doctor on the on phone in about a year. Only saw the dentist once to have a tooth pulled. Not doing any cleaning either. See my eye doctor on 12-1 and that is 7 months late for the yearly check up. That will be last appointment till spring. I do not do appointments in winter, don't like the December one either. Too hard to dress warm and get a jacket on.
Had a call from Yvette, the doctor send her for the covid test and it came back yesterday and she is negative, thank God.
Her Dr. gave her a new inhaler and it has helped with her allergies. They heat their house with forced hot air and it is very dry. Told her she needs a humidifier. I had forced hot air at my son's house and with my plants I kept plastid comtainers around them for the moisture they needed and I would put a bucket of water in front of where the hot air came from, helped a lot.

It was 27 when I got up this morning, all the cars were white with frost, could even see it on the roof that I can see.

JACKIE  I don't "talk" to everyone here every day. Some days I just do not feel like saying anything. Wish Charley a belated happy birthday from me.

JANE  wish I got a visit from my daughter as often as you see your. Sure we are on Sky pe every day but no real hugs that way. Mickey is another beautiful baby. Make mw want to pick him up and cuddle him, bet you would like that, too.

JENNY  Yvette might be back Monday. I think I have gotten to rely on her too much. She has been coming here for almost 3 years now. Wish BOB a Happy Birthday for me.

BUBBLE thank you for te new page this morning. Love the coloring in the frst graphic and like the font you used. Wish my handwriting could look like that. I could almost hear Harry Belafonte singing Island in the Sun. Thanks for all today's goodies.

JUNEE  wonderful seeing your post this morning. Sure miss you.

PHYLLIS  reember all the birthday cards we used to make? Now neithe one of us can do PSP anymore, I do miss it but impossible now.

LLOYD  have a good day, still below freezing here.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Joy

Good morning,

I have not been on the computer that much for a couple days.  Did want to check in here so that you all would know I am still "alive and kickin' ".  Have been very lazy and not doing a whole lot.  I have a lot of naps and read a lot.

I am going to order a Thanksgiving dinner from one of our favorite restaurants and my son will pick it up ob Wednesday.
We have decided to just stay in our separate places and not all get together..  Our Governor has suggested not to have any family gatherings and I am more comfortable with that.  My place is small and with even 4 people, not much room to move around.  Since I do have a lot of health issues, I feel better doing it that. Even tho I don't like it. MY one son feels like the "government" is putting too many restrictions out. He feels that you just can't stop living.  I know it must not be easy to have to make those kind of decisions.  But, I think it is better to be safe than sorry.  I don't go out anywhere, but my family are out among people every day, and I don't really worry about them being infected, but I just am not comfortable about it.  I have several friends who have cancelled their family's Thanksgiving get together.  Very Sad times now we all are living in.

Hope everyone is doing well and have a nice Sunday afternoon.

Friends have left to head home. We did our exchange of items and now I have 21 + yards of elastic for masks.

Patricia, hope your 30 days goes fast with no hiccups. Can't imagine what you are going through, makes on apprehensive on what they are eating.

Joy, I think this province is going to go into lock down as people don't do as they are told. We now have many cases in the province ,thankfully none in this area but still people don't STAY HOME!

Gloria, we heat with wood and that it drying also. A kettle of water is always on the back of the stove.

Good Morning.  Thanks, Bubble, for the new page.

Phyllis,  I may copy your comments about Happy Birthdays.  I just am not at all good at mentioning individuals for this or much of anything else.

Electricity was out for almost 2 hours last night. High winds had blown down power lines. Glad my cell phone and Tablet were fully charged.  No internet but I could read, play games and keep in touch with family.

Time to prepare for watching live video of church service on Facebook.  Seems as if it takes almost as much time to do that as it did to get ready and get there.

BBL, Friends.  Enjoy your day.

Good morning from an Interior at 7° and as usual,  snowdrift_8199_1_snowban_8529_75_75.jpg   Yet we persevere. We will be back and forth with plus and minus temperatures all week.

Bubble, thank you for the start of a new SS version! I always enjoy your PSP work and the songs and poems you bring to us. I especially liked the friendship quote as that describes a real friendship and not simply an acquaintance. Your new avatar is as the kids say (or did? at my age, it's hard to keep up!); sweet! You're doing more with avatars, and I need to find a new one for my new sign in.

Today I start my thirty days of food restrictions, and late yesterday afternoon, friends came to bring me some game and organic foods while taking away my stash of processed or suspect foods. It's going to be an interesting month, but I hope a healthier, more promising one. It was an interesting visit.

They called that they were at the front door; I went down the elevator in my mask, and through the security office, and out the vestibule, grabbing a cart on my way. I left the cart outside, retreated to the vestibule while they loaded all the food onto my cart. Then my friend came in with me to switch foods, and I went back down in the elevator with her and waved goodbye to her and her waiting husband.

We're careful as they've taken two people from here and not brought them back yet. I don't understand people selfishly complaining about their personal rights as some have done locally while Alaska jumps a hundred and more new cases daily. What about their right to life?

patricia19

Sorry Amy, I had to edit the size of my snow and then you and Callie were there ahead of me. I hope the month goes fast as well. At least there are promises of better sleep and health to look forward to. I imagine all those with sensitivities and allergies will understand.

Kyle probably would like to do without his allergies but likes being here with you more. Food and other allergies are on the rise and doctors say they're going to keep rising as the more chemicals in our life do.

With all that fabric you're going to be busy! I know the ones you sent were lovely!

Callie & Phyllis, I agree, we're not always going to be remembering and noting each event. I'm sorry your electricity was out. A few years back, one night, some local fool got drunk and hit a transformer and the whole block went out along with my building's heat. It was a few hours of shivering and bundling until the heat returned.

Amy

Patricia, no problem :)
When I was in the back yard yesterday a flock of geese flew over.....nothing odd about that part but they also had a flock of Whistler ducks with them..that as the odd part!

I had to look that duck up as it was new to me and not an Alaskan one or visitor. They sound very colorful and interesting. I would have loved to have seen that! I love as you know, looking at animal and bird Youtube videos!

In the spring and fall, we have humongous flocks of honking geese and cranes. The various ducks seem to sneak in quietly.

CallieOK

Patricia,  fortunately, the temperature yesterday was almost 80º.  Even if it had been out longer, I doubt the house would have become cold. I was ready for bed, anyway, but it came back on before I'd gotten under the covers.

Jackie, I was very young when my Dad taught me to follow a football game on the radio.  He drew a football field on a box lid and had me move a red checker (for OU Sooners, of course  ;) ) and a black checker (for the opponents) back and forth on the yard markers as we listened.  Parents began taking me to home games at OU when I was about 10.
I don't follow pro basketball but, having been married to a coach and official plus a son playing on high school team, I do know enough to listen intelligently (most of the time!)

Amy and Patricia,  I haven't heard Canada geese overhead yet but that may be due to my hearing loss getting worse. I have noticed Juncos at the bird feeder; they're usually here only in the winter.

patricia19

Callie, our present temperature is plus five. It was plus 7 only two hours ago!  :-\

I don't believe we saw 80 degrees more than twice with our past rainy summer, which was back in May. You have many different birds than we do and at different times because we live in a large forest and wetlands area. Our local Juncos overwinter in the SE portion of the state but return in early spring.

Our sanctuary, Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, hosts nesting birds and waterfowl from all over the world. While most acreage remains unavailable to the public, there are two front public viewing areas and one boardwalk trail of three miles, and a five-mile looped trail available. Unfortunately, my balance has prevented me from walking the available trails since 2017.

Several competing dog races have routed thru some parts in the past winters, but I doubt if we'll see those this year.

Callie...
... similar here, i always new my Richard played in a local football team in his younger days but it wasn't until the clear-out after he died that i came across a piece of old newspaper cutting that had a picture of him proudly holding up a large trophy cup dressed smartly in a suit, shirt and tie, with his name mentioned underneath, and photo and name of who was awarding it..
It is now safely in my possession inside a lidded tin box...

I grew up in a home where
I was the youngest, only only
girl with two older brothers.

Sports was always on the tube
in later years after the tube had
been invented and in everyone's
home..

So I learned baseball,  American
Football and Basketball...

When I got older and had
my own family, sports was
not that much in my life.

But I did maintain a working
knowledge of most those three
sports and still do today
even though I rarely ever
watch them .

I even enjoyed  a few
years of Fantasy Football..
Which was fun.
Especially when i Beat out
the men that I played with.
(Not always but I usually
remained in the running until
the end)

And life goes on..

Now it is "Covid, Covid, Covid"
Bah,  Humbug.

Only three outdoor school sports i remember doing on a regular basis was netball, hockey and rounders...hockey and rounders i enjoyed, netball i hated as had no idea what i was doing and could not wait for our PE ( physical education ) teacher to blow that whistle, that whistle letting us know the game was over...Also the boys classes were above the girls classes on the ground so boys would look out their windows at us, being 13-15, not so bad with the hockey and rounder's as those were played over the fields away from the main building...Oh and we had to play in our navy knickers, ( part of our school uniform-black canvas plimsolls not white ) no shorts or PE skirts back then were allowed..

For the boys it was football and cricket...

It's a nice sunshiny morning but chilly.  48 deg. when I got up at a little before 6 a.m.  Not much planned for the day except for laundry.

This afternoon I must take the car into the auto mechanic to see if they can track down and fix a persistent leak that comes in the back.  I think it is around the back window but could be around the hatchback instead...or in addition to.  It has had us irritated for some time and has caused mold in the car that had to be removed but it is still happening so must find out where it is coming from.  I wish I didn't have to have a car but it is an absolute necessity here.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone,  turned  the pc on and the TV on when I got here and heard a local news report about  high winds last night and the damage done. I looked out when I pulled the bedroom window this morning like I always do and the sky is clear and the trees were not moving and it looked calm. I wondered what the weather guesser was talking about, well it was in south county, along the shore. In Westerly they had a few gusts of 68 MPH and damage. Once again I am glad I live as far from the ocean as can be in this smallest state.
Got a call from Yvette yesterday all she needs to get back to work is a note from her doctor saying she is OK and she will be back to work, hopefully tomorrow. It was her allergies acting up. She needs a humidifier in her house, heating with forced hot air really dries the air in a house.

JOY  in this building we can order a Thansgiving dinner from a local restaurant for $15. From the menu listed it is about half the dinner without many veggies. I will be going to my grandson's house and it is just family. My oldest son has the Christmas dinner. I know I will have a meal to take home from both places.

JACKIE  thanking me for what? I did nothing or said nothing to be thanked for.

AMY  wow just think of all the masks you can make now with all the elastic. My oles son heated with wood for years but aft er getting the house getting an addition put onto the house he got a pellet stove, heats great but not with all the ashes from the wood. They still keep an old kettle on it filled with water.

CALLIE  I enjoyed making the birthday cards and trying to find somehing to go with the person whose birthday it was. We notified the recipient that a card was posted for them and most everyone thanked us for them.

PATRICIA  i WAS THINKING IT IS TIME FOR ME TO CHANGE MY AVATAR. There I go with the caps locked. Really not yelling at you. I rather wear a mask and protect  my health than get the covid-19. Seems like we are getting more cases every day now than the first time around. Good luck on the 30 days. So fa r everyone in  this building is OK.

JANE  YOU  turned out the lights and turned them on this morning. No one in between must feel like you are all alone in the SS.

PHYLLIS  I still miss having a car and the independance it gave me. With this darn virus we no longer have the town car that we could call for appointments so have to ask my olderson to take me. Hate to bother him.

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy with your mask on.
