How nice to read all the stories about time spent and connections to Colorado❣️

Today I saw a picture and a article that was welcoming people to Hugo.  Now I would not have given it a second thought to it if you all had not been discussing it!

MARILYNE, yes the numbers in SoCal AND the high numbers here were definitely the reason we cancelled our trip.  I can't help but feel sad and actually MAD that this virus is controlling our lives like this.  I unfortunately have done the same thing you mentioned....forget to save my post before moving on😩😩 It is surprisingly hard to try to go back and rewrite what we have already said😢

CALLIE, good for Miss Ellen for doing all she can to make life a bit more enjoyable during these sad times💞

Not much more to add, so enjoy the rest of your day.

Good morning...

We did a lot of travel after retiring.. for a bit. We travelled across Canada and into 17 States. We don't do much travelling other than to Dr appointments so  I doubt that will happen now. We met a lot of nice people on our travels, enjoying campfires with many. A lot of good memories to look back on..

Patricia, did you get your "found" glasses fix?

FlaJean

Nice weather here---sunny and 72°.  Not much to post about.  Hope everyone is doing OK.

Marilyne

Good Morning everyone.  :)
I see there hasn't been much conversation here in B&T, in the past 24 hours.  I hope things pick up today, and more of our posters drop in to say hello?

Jean - Good to see you today.  Please come back and tell us what you and Larry are doing to pass the time?   When you're confined to your home, seems that nothing new is ever happening . . . one day follows the other, and that's about the extent of it.   We want to hear from everyone anyway.

Amy - Did you stop in California, during your travels through 17 states?  What were your favorite States of the seventeen?  I've been to Canada, but only to two Provinces, British Columbia, and Alberta.  I liked them both, very much, and always hoped to go back and spend more time, but never did.  We had plans to attend the Calgary Stampede, about 25 years ago, but never made it.  RV broke down in Seattle, and once it was finally fixed, we came back home.

Jenny - I also looked in here last night, and saw that no one had posted yesterday!  :'(  I hope things change today, and more of our friends return. Keep us posted on how Michele and your Dad are doing?  Also, how the grandkids are coping without school?

Joy

Just marking my place.  U an like Jean is.   Nothing much to talk about.

I did get a big job accomplished yesterday.  Got my fridge all cleaned out..... little bits of this and that that got pitched.  I wound up with 15 various sized empty jars when I was done.  Rearranged things that I use a lot on the door. Now don't have to root around for something I use a lot.  I needed to make some space for our Thanksgiving food.  We are getting a turkey dinner enough for 4 people, so I guess it will come all together and I will have divide it up for the other 3.  We decided that we all are just going to eat at our own place.  Not the same this year, for sure.

It is a pretty sunny day and supposed to be in the mid to upper 60's for a few days.  That will be nice.

I need to get some lunch.  Hope everyone will have a good afternoon.

Good Morning from sunshiny, windy central Oklahoma.

Not much to post about from here, either.

I'm watching the Netflix series "Crown" and a couple of the nighttime "soap operas" I like have begun new seasons.

Have to wait an hour to eat after taking my first daily med so Usually begin my morning by taking it then reading the paper and doing the Daily Challenge and three Daily Goals on some Solitaire games.

Usually have Domestic Duties done by noon so spend most of the afternoon reading e-books.  Also end the day this way and, last night, it was "early this morning" because I just had to read "one more chapter".  ;)

The family will gather at son's house for Thanksgiving.  We'll be slightly over the suggested limit but will have plenty of spacing and doubt we'll stay very long. I'm taking the usual cornbread dressing and chocolate dessert plus a fruit salad (when I noticed that wasn't on anybody else's list).

As far as I know, the granddaughters are busy working and grandson is planning to spend quite a bit of Thanksgiving break deer hunting on our property in southeastern Oklahoma.  His dad and uncle are there now.

Need to go to Braum's and Walgreen's after lunch.

And that's it from my corner of the world.

Sandy

Good morning from a cold Interior at minus 21°. I had been watching MSN weather. It gamely continued it's the earlier forecast of pluses in the one to five degrees while stating the true, current temperatures—a bit of a contradiction when AccuWeather and others showed the actual forecasts. My main weather gripe is that when weather networks show trends or anything notable in the US, Alaska, and Hawaii are always excluded, and you have to look for those states separately.

I'm glad to see more posters today. I feel sad for Norm and MaryAnn's memories when "their place" shows so little activity, and yes, I understand circumstances.

Amy, Our Governor, has declared our state for federal relief re COVID-19 like many others and instituted more restrictions. No real medical services that aren't essential, so it was very important that I found my glasses and prescription from 2016. I don't know when I will get a new prescription; the virus is rampaging here.

We have new restrictions in our building as well. Only one person, except for close family members at a time, is allowed in the elevators, security slash mailroom where you use one door for entry and another for the exit, or in one of the laundry rooms. Any maintenance other than emergencies is deferred. And while a maintenance man is in an apartment, all restrictions will be applied.

A message was sent around that you could sign up by the 23rd to have a Thanksgiving meal sent to your door on the 26th. They would bring the meal, knock on your door, wait for an answer, and then lay the meal outside your door and request you wait until they left before opening your door. I'm glad I will have my own meal altho the new restrictions mean my friend will not bring the meal inside to visit.

She and her husband will still call when they arrive, but I will have to bring the cart outside, move back to the vestibule while they load the meal before returning inside their car. I will then return, wave goodbye, and bring the meal inside. Thank you to all who felt following medical protocols was a strike against your personal freedom.

Sandy, I hope you enjoyed your birthday and that it was a good one!

Jenny, I too hope Michele is doing better, and they can find new treatments for her. How is your Dad?

I have been through both the Yukon and British Columbia parts of Canada. altho I would have loved to see more and for longer periods. Canada, or at least the parts I saw, was very similar to Alaska in feel, terrain, and people. I felt right at home.

Stateside was like being a stranger in your own home. When people heard where I was from in the seventies and eighties, I was as much a curiosity to them as they were to me, with several misconceptions on either side.

I remember in Knoxville, at one of my inlaws, I was looked on as a curiosity until one of the great uncles stated he had been in Alaska in the forties and greatly enjoyed his time there. Then everyone seemed to relax, and I felt more accepted.

Via my parents and later marriage or as a military dependent, I have been in most of the US except for the Northeastern states. As far east as I went to, was Ohio, New Jersey, and West Virginia. I regret two things, being unable to visit the rest of the states and able to be in the ocean. There were always circumstances against both wishes.

Hi Sandy! I'm glad you're doing well. I'm glad you have family close.

Amy

Marilyne, I loved them all. Each one had their own beauty and drawing card. One across the border and into Montana I asked hubby to pull over as I saw flowers
but didn't know what plant it was. I was walking in the field (found out they were flowering Cactus) and a State Trooper pulled up to see if we were ok. We chatted a bit and then on parting , he said to keep an eye out for rattle snakes!!
Seeing Mt Rushmore was beyond expectations one can see photos but nothing like the real item.I would have loved to go back to SD to see if they had finished the statue of Crazy Horse..

We went to New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine and again they each held something special. I think it was in Vermont that we were told we must go to The Farmers Daughter......wow what a store!!

While traveling  to these places we would also take in the museums.  Rather taken aback to see items that I had used and still use  called antiques!!

I do think we each live in a special place and the view can be amazing, once one looks.

Amy

Patricia, I am glad you found your prescription. Just wish you could get your new glasses soon.

For me to get into the Dr yesterday, I rang the bell...then a nurse came out to let me in......hand washing.....yes, mask was on ..then when finished she let me back out. Follow up will be by phone. Gone are the good days of sitting with other patients chatting till it is your turn to go in.

Word has it that this will last till next fall!!!

Amy, from what medical personnel and scientists are saying, realistically look to 2024 for a new normal. As with population growth, climate change, anti-vaxxers, and other realities, there will always be those who see conspiracies in everything, and that pushes any progress that further back.

Amy

Patricia, I would agree to that  sadly.
Why people think this is non existent is beyond me. The anti masker, anti-vaxxers should be denied health care if they get covid for in their mind it doesn't exist...so therefore they don't have it!!
Population growth will really go ahead  now with those working from home. ;)

That was a subject I asked my Dr yesterday and bottom line was GET the vaccine, either one has a good percentage  GET IT!

I agree, not only for ourselves but also for those who, for whatever medical reason, depend on others to be kept safe.

Marilyne

It's late morning here already - almost lunch time.  I just finished hard boiling some eggs for sandwiches, and made some Jello for dessert tonight.  I've been on a "Jello kick" for the past couple of weeks?  Don't know why, as it's been years since I've made it, but somehow it tastes just right.  I know I'll get tired of it, and go back to my usual ice cream, before much longer.

Amy - I'm in agreement with you, as to Mt. Rushmore!  You have to see it in person to appreciate it,  as pictures do not begin to do it justice!  It's really an awesome,  spectacular sight, and well worth the trip to S. Dakota.

Patricia - Regarding the latest Covid surge . . .  most businesses have been closed down again here in the Bay Area, except for the ones that are deemed essential.  Also, we're being asked to stay home for Thanksgiving, and not have family gatherings.  People are complaining like you wouldn't believe!  I'm sure there will be another surge here, about a week after the holiday.

patricia19

Evidently from what I've heard and understood, the first five days you're infected are when you infect the most other people. There was also a report from the White House, Dr. Birx about how in-home dryness and humidity has an effect on the disease's transmission.

"Much has been made about the dangerous pandemic pathogens flying around the air outside of our personal bubbles this year, but in the cold months ahead, the safety of indoor locations may be a trapdoor to greater risk, experts are suggesting.

Coronavirus cases in the United States have skyrocketed in the recent weeks, and according to Dr. Deborah Birx, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, a round of cold weather may be to blame. Another large factor has been the prevalence of asymptomatic cases, Dr. Birx said, particularly in the under-35 age demographic.

Once the cold air arrived and spread, people were pushed indoors, and gatherings became more dangerously concentrated.

"This virus increased so rapidly because there was an unusual cold snap that began in the northern Plains and went down through the Heartland," Dr. Birx said at a press conference on Thursday. "In the end of September and beginning of October, a large number of people moved indoors. So, we've been going across the country and telling the mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast to really increase testing and look for these asymptotic cases."

Once indoors, a variety of factors from proximity to temperature to humidity can help increase the risks for transmission. Dr. Joel N. Myers, founder and chief executive officer of AccuWeather, said keeping an eye on humidity, in particular, will be more crucial than ever before this year.

As Dr. William Bahnfleth, an architectural engineering professor at Pennsylvania State University, told AccuWeather earlier this fall, humidifying is a must in order to maintain a proper humidity level indoors this coming cold season -- a step he explained is critical in reducing the amount of potential respiratory irritants.

Amy

Patricia, thank you for that information.  In the winter we always keep a kettle on the back of the woodstove to help with the dry air. Will pass this information on to others. Once again, thank you!

I am trying so hard to remember who on our site here has done extensive research into their family history.  I have a dear friend who inherited many boxes of photos, papers, etc., and she would like to research and see if there are other family members still living who would be interested in having the photos and papers.

Any help will be appreciated.

It is a cloudy 41oF here this morning. Meanwhile, I am watching the ships on the St. Clair River. Saw a couple at Port Huron earlier and now I am watching at a foggy Marine City. Algonac is experiencing fog and snow right now which makes it difficult to see ships.

Today, I am about to attempt to find some Christmas decorations to put up somewhere the cats can't reach. Fat chance, but I am going to try. One that I hope to find a place for this year is a ceramic Christmas tree that she made years and years ago; it lights up.

Added: It is now snowing at Marine City, just in time to see a great shot of the Hon. James L. Oberstar pass by.

patricia19

Good morning from a warmer Interior at 9 above. Today will be a day for those pesky chores that won't stay done! Perhaps Monday, I'll be able to squeeze in a visit to the mall to pay some bills and a few groceries. I haven't been out since I fell in the deep snow and lost my glasses. If I hadn't saved that pair since 2016, I'd not be going anywhere as no one's presently doing eye exams.

Tomereader, I've done some research on my DNA to find out that family lore was correct. I'm Celtic with Irish, Scot, and Welsh with a tad Norwegian and a smaller Swedish one. I used Ancestory.com.  My cousin sent me a CD of all her information on the family, and that's what I have. I know MaryAnn had used Ancestory to discover more about her Danish roots, and there may be others here who have looked into their DNA as well.

Your friend might want to digitize her information, which would help in sending copies to other family members. I would put the physical evidence in a secure, safe place.

I posted four snowy photos in photos. Since they cut down all the trees, it's not as peaceful.

Denver

Just thought I had better come in and check on you all.

Nothing new around here to report. My Broncos did win today so that was nice.

Turkey day is approaching quickly.  We will pick up a prepared meal at our local Whole Foods Market and take it to Dave's Family.  We have been with them a few times recently and always are careful to distance the best we can but still be together.

Michele has started on the new maintenance plan of chemo and so far she is only having a few symptoms.  Her muscles all ache from head to toe...and she is very tired, but still better than the normal chemo was for her.  thank you, MARILYNE and PATRICIA for asking about her.  Also, you asked about my Dad, PATRICIA.  He continues to slowly go down hill.  He does not have a appetite at all, so he continues to loose weight.  His voice still sounds good and strong and he is always happy to hear my voice when I call and talk to him daily.  He is getting more and more forgetful and he knows it, and it bothers him, but we just kind of laugh about it as I tell him how forgetful Bob and I are these days.  My brother planned to go down to AZ to spend Thanksgiving with them, but due to Covid he de died it was not a good idea.  We were going to drive over to see him from Palm Springs when we were there, but our trip has been cancelled as well😩😢

Time to head off to bed.....sweet dreams to all.

Just a quick note for the Thanksgiving gatherings of "slightly more" than recommended. Friend sent one of those cute messages about "being allowed more people for funerals than for Turkey Day", so they are having a funeral for their pet turkey instead........ :2funny:

MarsGal

Oh, dear Shirley! What a laugh I got from that.

There are plenty of people traveling and enjoying Thanksgiving with family and friends. I wish them a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Since George will be upstate for Thanksgiving, I will be feeding his cats again. However, I do not intend to go on Thanksgiving Day. George should be relatively safe up in Tioga County where the COVID-19 count is very low. He is more likely, to my thinking, to take something caught down here with him rather than bring anything back. My sister has decided to back off our lunches (my thoughts too, but I didn't want to say so) again because of the surge. I have not looked into where we stand in the area now, but I know Philly is being hit hard again.

Shirley - Nice to laugh first thing in the morning . . . thanks for the funny turkey comment!  ;D

MarsGal - I also notice that many people are going ahead with their usual plans, and will be traveling this week.  Every night they show the crowded airports, and interview people who are flying to visit family.  Most have the attitude of, "throwing caution to the winds" . . . they just don't care anymore.   I understand, but I'm not that cavalier!

Jenny - It's good that you're going to Michele and Dave's.  After the terrible year she has had, she wants you there, and Dave and the kids need you too.  Bringing the dinner from Whole Foods is a good idea.  We had that turkey dinner from WF last year, and it was easy to prepare and delicious.

I'm trying really hard to not get too depressed and sad over this week.  My three "children" are all close, but none of them are coming here.  Brad and Jackie, will be going to her Mom's house and making or taking dinner.  Jackie's mom is very ill, and not expected to live much past the holidays, so I can certainly understand.  They will be taking food or cooking there.  Jackie's stepfather is there and is helpful, but he's 88, and has his own problems.  His two daughters will be there, as well.

Patricia - the two daughters I mentioned above, have just arrived back from Fairbanks.  One lives there, and the other lives here, but was in AK to visit their sick mother.  Older folks who are not doing well, have it really rough this year.

Merry Monday, Everyfriend,

Shirley,  Good One!!!!

Unfortunately, our Thanksgiving family get-together has been cancelled.  No Covid but son-the-host is on meds for bronchitis and grandson has an ear infection.  His Mom decided that family should stay home and I made the same decision for myself.
Just glad this happened before I started prepping for making dressing and dessert.

Won't be the first time I haven't been with family and I simply refuse to get all "gloom and doom" about it - even if I have to talk myself out of feeling that way.

Onward and Upward...

Edit:  Just texted with son who's on meds.  He's had a video chat with doctor who told him anti-biotic is working and it will just take time to get everything cleared out.
So he's doing turkey and dil will bring me some on Thursday to swap for dressing, dessert and fruit salad.  Looks as if I'll be busy the next few days, anyway.

patricia19

Good morning, it's warmer these days, presently on the plus side of the thermometer but not by much. There are some folks in my building receiving turkey dinners or hot meals delivered by relatives or churches but many are just planning as I am to ignore that day. Wednesday, friends are delivering my diet sanctioned meal which I will enjoy as the gift it is, and spend the day on my computer or Kindle.

Jenny, I understand how you feel. My mother had severe Alzheimer's and my father had numerous strokes that caused memory loss and other issues. I moved him in with me for a period but I ended up leaving my job as he would leave the stove on, water running, or fridge open or wander the building halls. My brother in law had to disable his vehicle to keep him from driving and he blamed me for that and other things he didn't understand. He couldn't be left alone day or night and I had to sleep and work. We finally moved him into the same private complex and locked ward where my Mom was at.

We are getting more local cases and deaths due to surges. Anchorage, our largest city has had the most protesters over their personal rights and outright non-compliance with safety measures. Not surprising then as they are presently numbering over one hundred new cases a day and more deaths in the 39 and under age groups. At this point, all areas of the state are in red zones and it's by community spread.

Marilyne, I wonder what part of town the one sister and mother live in? Our city center as in many cities has more offices than homes and the outlying areas have malls and subdivisions.  I'm not sure if those here are doing well or not because we keep having more restrictions and weekly, maintenance, shrouded in plastic, roams the halls, spraying doors and carpets with antiseptic.

I don't mind missing the holiday as we've been on lockdown since mid-March and I don't know if I'd remember how to act socially anymore! 🙉

MarsGal

Good Morning all!

First off, I found this live webcam yesterday. It is kind of fun watching the elephants and antelopes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XeUmVruRYM I checked again last evening after it was dark there, and saw a rather extensive display of bright flashes in the very distance. Must have been a storm. Oh, look! Zebras today too. The antelopes are frisky this morning. I'll be watching this awhile. Nothing much to see in the dark and with the webcams on automatic this early on the St. Clair River.
