This whole day is going to be messed up.  I was up early for a lab appointment.  Because I was wanting to make sure I got up in time I, of course, was restless all night.  I made it in time and everything moved along smoothly even through all the Covid restrictions.  But, oh gosh, was it cold!  29 deg. when we left the house.  David started the car a few minutes early and that helped warm it up but I thought I would shiver to pieces.  The second I got back in the house I headed for the coffee machine.

Shirley, we drove several Buick Park Avenues and loved everyone of them.  I've been looking at the Encore.  As for a sun roof...I may not have any choice.  I think that it will be hard to find a car that doesn't have one and still has the other things that I want.  I'm taking my time.  If the nice young man at the garage managed to fix the problem I may wait awhile before buying.  What to do.....what to do..... ???

Happy Birthday!, Sandy.

I'm going to eat lunch and take a nap.  I am so sleepy.  Take care, All.

Good morning everyone from a still cold Interior. Fairbanks and Barrow are 546 miles apart. There is a reason for our 24-hour summer daylight and our almost 24-hour darkness in winter. The longer it stays dark, the longer without light, the longer it remains cold. And the main reason the solstices are celebrated.

The further north you have an effect called the Polar Tilt, "Polar regions receive less intense solar radiation than the other parts of Earth because the sun's energy arrives at an oblique angle, spreading over a larger area, and also travels a longer distance through the Earth's atmosphere in which it may be absorbed, scattered or reflected, which is the same thing that causes winters to be colder than the rest of the year in temperate areas."

"Things have taken a dark turn in Utqiaġvik, Alaska.

According to the National Weather Service, the sunset on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. local time in the northernmost town in the United States and will not rise again for 65 days.

Citizens of Utqiaġvik, formerly known as Barrow, have seen their last sunset until Jan. 23, 2021, which means by the time the sun comes up again, the country will have a new president, as President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration will be on Jan. 20.

The long period of darkness is due to "polar night," which occurs at high latitudes in the Arctic and Antarctic circles every winter.

The phenomenon occurs because regions in the Arctic circle are tilted away from the sun on the Earth's axis during winter, according to The Weather Channel.

The city is not completely plunged into darkness the whole time, as there are a few hours a day where there is enough light to see, but the sun never fully rises above the horizon.

While the residents of Utqiaġvik stock up on vitamin D, they can also look forward to a blindingly bright summer, as the same effect causes days of near-total sunshine from May through August.

Shirley, I too drive a Buick Encore, 2015 model.  It just turned over 9,000 miles. That's nine thousand!  Not ninety.  It is a beautiful cocoa-silver color, with leather interior in a two tone. It is the car my hubby picked out for me, not what I was shopping for at the time, but I have learned to love it, especially now that he's gone.  I won't be getting any new one for sure.  He used to do all the maintenance on it, and now I have to go to the dealership.  Only thing I need right now is a new set of windshield wipers.  I bet they will be pricey.  I had the oil change, state inspection done in October, so maybe I can afford the wipers next month.

Hope you are feeling better and can have a nice Thanksgiving.

Take care.

Shirley

Tome, try going to AutoZone or whatever.... have one of the sales men suggest which wiper is best & bet they will even snap them on for you & not all the extra charges from the dealer. I did take mine to the dealer for oil changes, was the first car after Cas died so had them change oil for it 7 years. Except for a new battery a year or so ago, that is ALL I ever spent on it...except for gas. I had the sales gal check before I turned it over & got 26.4 for the 7+ years of town driving. It made 3 trips on the highway to KC (roughly 200 miles each way), and I do have a lead foot... so impressive mileage. What I love about these little guys is you can turn on a dime & squirt into a parking spot going the opposite direction. They are small but back seats fold down so can put fairly good size package inside. Now I'm set, only 3 year warranty from Buick, but at 86 I may not care to drive longer. I got the frosty white with creamy tan leather interior, what I asked for.

Phyllis, this one had everything I wanted & more, even remote start. Nav system & too many new things I can't remember. Trouble is, got home to put my stuff in (I carry styro coolers in trunk for groceries)... but can't remember the trick to open it.  :-[

I am dead on my feet tonight, but one job down! Tomorrow to get the adhesive to put the cover for the dryer vent on so I can do laundry.

Patricia, I'm not sure I would like dark to last so long, but prefer dark over a sun I can't hide from. Dad went through 2 or 3 weeks of tests in the hospital one time because he passed out in the sun... all they could tell him was, "you must be allergic so stay out of the sun". I had my first heat/sun stroke at 19 and recognized the signs & get out of the sun if I feel it coming on. Even in CO in the summer I go from shade tree to tree.

Got to go get horizontal, my eyes are trying to close.  Stay healthy, everyone!

JaneS

I'm heading for the haystack early tonight, too.  I can't keep my eyes open so I'm going to quit trying.

I roasted 6 lbs. of peanuts, set them to cool while I did other stuff then packed them.  They're ready to go when I pack boxes.  I also got an application filled out that I've been putting off and divided my pot roast into meal size containers and froze 4, ate one for supper and have one for supper tomorrow. I took two doggies for two separate walks each and one for two more.  I guess that's enough for a day.

Good Night! Sweet dream!  I wish you all a peaceful night sleep and a happy, healthy, feel-good, get-well, no problems tomorrow.  And may Go bless us, every one!

Shirley, my Encore doesn't have a Trunk Release Button anywhere in the cabin.  You have to go to the trunk, slip your hand under the chrome latch and press the button/latch release there.  Mine has Nav too which I don't use, does have the On-Star, which I have to pay for.  Would like to drop it, but at my age, and the traffic here, it's  liable to get used one of these days.  My trips are between 2 and 5 miles, unless I drive out to my daughter's which is about 45 miles. Haven't done that in quite awhile.  It has the rear view camera, but it is much smaller than yours (I saw one on the lot and it's about half again the size of mine). Wish mine was larger, eyesight, you know.  They Courtesy Car picked me up when I had the car checked out, and they drove the Buick Envision, which is the next step up.  Classy, roomy and all the bells and whistles.  I probably couldn't afford it!
Enjoy the new ride!

Amy

Good morning

Wow 45° out there at the moment I am sure that won't last long.
Yesterday went well, all papers signed and now to wait till the new hearing aid is in. Went to pick up chicken for my friend and the store had brussel spouts on sale.....packed up 3 bags of those one for us and one each for friends.

Today is pick up meds then home to bake.I hope. Seems something always gets in the way but hope today is the day!

Jane, are these peanuts raw and then you bake them?

Better get a wiggle on...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend! Going to bed early worked out pretty well.  I slept 7 plus hours with only short times awake while I got a different position then right back to sleep.  I was wide awake a little after 5.  So far, so good!

AMY, yes the peanuts were raw.  This is what is in the bags with the guys names on them.  Last year Christy told me that her husband refused to share until she pretended to cry so this year she's getting her own bag.

I'm going to look for some of those brussels sprouts at the farmers market on Saturday.

LLOYD, you beat me here!  Have a good day!

I'm off to get dressed because I'm sure Mickie will soon tell me it's time to go for a walk.  And I can't have my second cup of coffee until we come back.

I hope you all have a great day!  Mine is on a list so I don't forget the important stuff.  Come back and share your day with all your friends in the Soda Shoppe so we don't have to miss you!

Good morning from a "Boy its cold!" Interior! Everyone seems to be busy with their day. I've gotten very into Youtube and several computer games, and Kindle. After the holiday and Black Friday, I plan to resurface and attempt the grocery stores. Right now, I'm staying safe inside!

I hope everyone's day goes well and Jane, you need roller skates!

Amy

Patricia, do you think the roller skates would be fast enough for Jane?  :2funny:

With gas powered tanks on the side?

Maybe a motorized skateboard - which may be called a "hoverboard" nowadays?

Amy

Callie, that is perfect! Knowing Jane she will zip along on it.

Well the weather here was beautiful today!  It got all the way up to 66º!  We had one extra walk just to take advantage of the weather!

Aside from that, I had a list of things to get done today and due to glitches, all of them got about half done!  I was really beginning to feel frustrated when night fell!  Now I have to try to finish all of them tomorrow!

PATRICIA, AMY, CALLIE,  As to the roller skates/skateboard, I'd probably fall off them and break my arm or leg and that would be the end of everything!  I think I'll just stick to "feet"!  What I could use is an extra pair of hands!  I remember my mother saying she needed an extra pair of hands and that was her way of asking help from whoever happened to be passing by!  I know I got the message many times!

MYCHEAL....your words are right on!  Too many people are ignoring the signs and still gathering, not wearing masks and, who knows, maybe not washing their hands!  You just can't trust gathering where you don't really know the people!

Now I hear the zzzzzs calling from the haystack so I'm going to go answer them so I can have the energy to try to finish all the stuff that got started today and hit a rock!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, feel-better, get-well, stress free tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

Looks like we may get some rain today...temp is 31° at the moment.

Managed to get some baking done yesterday and will do more today. Laundry will get done but not hung on the line unless the sky clears up.

Jane, we say more hands make light work , once the job is done everyone can rest.

Patricia, oh my that little one has a busy day of him. His Mom contained her laughter well. Good work ethics in him at that age!

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy yours and stay safe.

I've been up since 5 a.m. and so far nothing of any consequence has been accomplished....unless you count taking a shower and getting clean clothes and accomplishment.

The temp is in the low 50s and Mickie and I have had a nice walk.  She's sleeping now and I'm really tempted to join her but the chocolate is almost melted for the last batch of pb saltines to be dipped.  That's my aim for the day.  Then I have to attend to all the stuff that only got half done yesterday.

Frankie is working today and Cooper is joining us.  Then she has two days off and she's spending them here.  She broke up with her current boyfriend and I think she needs some sympathetic company.

I have some bills to pay and some stuff to finish ordering.

That little boy made me tired!  He certainly has a busy day planned!

I guess I better get started or I'll never get finished.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Sunny and warmer today.  I'm looking forward to it.

Jane, that was my thought, too, when they started talking about roller skates and hover boards for you.   Please don't let her fall off and break an arm again.  So glad you agree with my thinking.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone, another short post. I woke at 9 just half an hour ago. My son will be here at 10:30 like he is every Saturday. Need a cup of coffee and  to get  dressed before he gets here.

OK ladies, wonder  if a flying carpet would be good for Jane? She could sit on it as it flew her to the next place she has to get to and while sitting she could be working on another goody for the next gift?

Got to go son is here and I am still in my nighty and robe.
Have a good day and s tay safe everyone

Gloria, that might work! Safety and efficiency. It could be a four-door, seatbelted, with space in the trunk and room for grandkids and special pets. Aladdin.2 2020  model

JaneS

Now I rather like the idea of a "magic carpet" and I particularly like Patricia's version.  I don't suppose you know where I could pick up one of those...dirt cheap preferably!
