MarsGal,  thank you so much for the link to the Africa cam!  I've really missed Pete's Pond and ones I've found just show hippos in the river or foliage - no animals.  Missed the elephants and antelopes but enjoyed seeing the two giraffes having a "shoving match"  :)  I've added it to my Favorites and am sure I'll check in often.

Cold rain in central Oklahoma this morning - with predictions of an almost spring-like stormy evening/night.  Glad I got a grocery order delivered yesterday.

"Elbow bump greetings" and "Virtual Hugs" to Everyfriend.

FlaJean

It has finally turned cooler here in Northwest Florida.  It is a beautiful sunny day.

We'll be going to our daughter's for Thanksgiving dinner.  Son-in-law will be cooking.  It will be just the four of us.  Gigi and Jeff only live a few blocks from us and we've been around them this whole pandemic so nothing new about being together.

I've noticed an uptick in the numbers of covid cases reported for our county in the last several weeks.  The only place we go is to the grocery store and we wear our masks and are careful.

I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving.

A good Tuesday to ALL.  We woke up to a good three inches of snow this morning.  Sure glad we got out errands done yesterday so we do not have to go out.

MARSGAL, I enjoyed the link you shared.  How delightful to be able to watch the wild animals in their own setting.  Thank you.

After watching your link, MARSGAL, I poked around and found this and thought it was worth sharing also.  https://youtu.be/I7Rp9b1BaxM

JEAN, nice to see your post and know that you and Larry will be with your daughter and son-in-law for TG.

PATRICIA, you did right by your dad by taking him in, and I know it had to be a sad thing to witness also with your mom. We have always offered for my dad to come live with us, but he is happy and wants to stay where he is.  Diane is not that healthy herself, but they muddle through together.

SHIRLEY, I loved your funny you shared.....sadly, it is kind of true the things that are and are not acceptable for people getting together.  Grocery stores, Sam's and Costco's are packed.....no social distancing at all....as was the Denver Airport yesterday....Our CA sons in-laws threw caution to the wind yesterday and flew from Denver to be with them this week.  It made me rather sad that they did this, after we cancelled. 😩😢 I guess that should actually say it made me JELOUS😭

JOY, I forgot to mention you getting your fridge cleaned out....that is a big job.  Our refrigerator went out on us awhile back and it was not fun having to throw so many things away, so I did not get the joy of knowing I did a good job😍

MARILYNE, we did Whole Foods either last year or the year before and it was a very nice dinner.  Expensive, but good.  We picked it up about 40 minutes from Vail, in Frisco and it worked our very nice.  They were all sold out this year, so that is why we have to pick it up the day before and get it right here by our house and drive it up the day before.

Have a good day.

Good morning from the Interior, where we're having plus temperatures and light snow. While I try to limit my outside excursions, there are necessary trips I have to make. Management here doesn't have electronic rent-paying, and the grocery stores have online ordering and curbside pickup but no home delivery. The stores didn't seem to be out of anything, but they were enforcing amounts.

Yesterday's trip was the new normal for this year.  I walked to the bus station, hoping there wasn't a crowd as there are only a few seats spaced out available in the large buses. The station itself is closed with portapotties set outside. However, riding is free. You enter by the side, formerly exit door, and the driver's area is caged off by a chain and plexiglass shields. Once at the store, you are expected to be wearing a mask and stop at the attended hand sanitizing station before entering the mall.

There are floor marks for distancing and plexiglass shields everywhere. The water fountains are missing, and tables where you used to see cut fruit, oriental foods, and other unwrapped foods have gone, replaced by closed plastic bags & boxes. Each store in the mall has its own sanitizing station, attendant, and trays of disposable masks if you've forgotten yours. I'm sure it is all familiar; however, I rarely leave home, so these measures are often new to me.

I purchased groceries, paid bills, and the main reason for the trip was to purchase a new humidifier as the winter air is arid and can be a good vehicle for the coronavirus. I called for a cab, waiting endlessly thru old music punctuated by messages, "I'm sorry for the delay, but your call will be answered soon in the order it was received."

After several minutes, I gave my info, and as the new usual, they couldn't give an arrival estimate, but the cab's departure time is texted to your cell. An hour and fifteen minutes later, the taxi pulls up with the driver's area blocked by the now-familiar plexiglass barrier. Out of a four-hour trip, most of it was due to waiting, and it was as tedious as it was for you reading this.

Amy

MarsGal, thank you!!! I have enjoyed watching the elephants...amazing creatures they are. Will bookmark this  site .

Patricia, welcome to my world.......waiting is a new norm now. What annoys me most is in big box stores instead of having 4  + tills open they have one or two. Then there are the directional arrows which most will ignore...as I said welcome to my world.

Amy, what I don't understand is the rent situation, why not an electronic system?   The entire setup is seven buildings scattered through the city and each having a different type of tenant. I believe an electronic system would make sense.

Marilyne

Jean - Your dinner with Gigi and Jeff, sounds like it will be fun for you.  I remember that they live close, and you see them often, so it won't be like a big party.  I hope your son and dil are doing okay?  This will be a sad Thanksgiving for them.

Patricia - I meant to tell you yesterday, the sisters visiting from Fairbanks, go by their maiden name, which is Perrigo.  The one living in Fairbanks is still married, but I don't know her married name or where she and her husband live?  There are three sisters, and all were born in or lived in FB growing up.  As I mentioned before, their mother is in a memory care nursing facility in FB. She and their father divorced long ago, and both remarried.  I don't know the former wife's married name?  (I know, it's confusing!)  The father of the three sisters,  is now married to Jackie's (my dil) mom, and has been ever since I've known them.  His last name is Perrigo, of course.

Jenny - I can imagine that you feel bad - finding out that the parents of your Palm Springs dil, will be flying out to spend Thanksgiving with them.   I know you were looking forward to seeing Jonah, after such a long time.   Maybe a possibility they will be coming to CO for Christmas?    I went to Whole Foods yesterday, just to get a few items - not a whole dinner, for just the two of us.  I bought a cherry pie, and we each had a piece last night.  It was not good at all.  Thick chewy crust and very few cherries.  :(   I think they left out the sugar, as the pie was totally tasteless.  Oh dear, I've turned into a chronic complainer.  Seems that's what I do best in recent months!  ::)  >:(  :'(

Amy

Marilynn, if you were closer we would share our cherry pie. that I made the other day. My Dad didn't like thick crust or a "shadow" pie as he called it. My Mom was a great cook and could make the flakiest pie crust and thankfully she taught me!

Marilyne, why not purchase a premade crust and add a can of cherry filling?

MarsGal

Thanks for the heads up on the giraffes. They weren't around yesterday morning, but I did catch them during their night, along with a few antelope, and several elephants. I noticed that at night the giraffes and antelopes seemed on alert but I didn't see anything in the direction they were looking, but did see a black shadow, moving more like a cat, along the tree-line off to the right of the screen. It was too far away to identify, but the other critters didn't seem to be concerned at that one. One giraffe seemed to go in its direction looking more curious than tense. I did a little research. The webcam is at the Tembe Elephant Park which is situated in upper South Africa, not far from the Mozambique border. Checked the weather report there which showed some very nice weather conditions at 74oF with a high of 78, little chance of rain, humidity at 61, and low pollen count. https://www.wunderground.com/weather/za/tembe Sounds nice.

Okay, now to the ships. I caught two clips of the newly built Michigan Trader/Dirk S. VanEnkevort barge/tug combo coming into Duluth on her maiden voyage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW_-2V1JHDQ Read the info below for more about the barge and the tug (rebuilt and renamed after its split with the Joseph H. Thompson barge).

Well, that was pretty much my day yesterday aside from a little housework, entertaining the cats, and finishing a book I was reading. Today will pretty much be the same.

MarsGal - thanks for posting the Africa cam!  So far I haven't seen much, but I have the cam on my desktop, and will be checking it, along with the ships and the Alaska bears. (sorry we won't be seeing the bears live, for a while, but still fun to take a look at the old "reruns".  :D    Looks like you'll be spending Thanksgiving by yourself - along with many other single people.   My youngest daughter will be alone in her tiny apartment.  Of course she is welcome to come here, but she won't come, because she's afraid of infecting us with Covid, or anything else.

Patricia - Thanks for the links!  I sent you an email.    Much more information than I've ever been able to find on anyone.    I've seen lots of posts on my Next Door, about Thanksgiving.  Many more singles are spending the day alone, than I would have thought.    Some seem very depressed about it, and others have the attitude of - just another day and another dinner.

Amy - I can well imagine that you make a delicious Cherry Pie, and I would love to have a piece!   Cherry is my favorite fruit pie, and Lemon Meringue is my favorite cream pie.  My mother made a delicious Lemon, and I have the recipe, but have never been able to make it to taste like hers.   I think it's the "Mother's touch", on so many foods that I remember from so long ago.

Callie - I doubt that Miss Ellen will be flying back for the holiday, but you'll probably be seeing the other two grandkids at some point.  Just remembered that you grand-son is going hunting.  I can relate.   AJ used to always go duck hunting on Thanksgiving morning.   A traditional thing.

Jenny - Hope you drop in today to say Hello, before the weekend gets underway.  You will probably be busy today and tomorrow.  I wish your whole family,   (including your Dad and Diane),  could get together for a meal together.  I know that's just a dream, and would be too hard for you, with family living in different States.   Maybe next Summer, if this evil Covid is under control by then!  :whip2:

Jean - Same hopes for you and Larry - that you can enjoy a holiday in the future, with your daughter from Canada, your son and dil, and of course, Gigi and Jeff.   Hoping you have a nice day tomorrow.

patricia19

Good morning, it's plus 18 & partly cloudy, and my Thanksgiving dinner arrives today, which I'm looking forward to. Any interaction with friends, no matter how brief, is appreciated! I hope everyone here and their families who celebrate have a nice holiday meal and family visits however they come about!

I have only 21 days left on my restrictions, but Monday at the grocery was a huge awakening. I have a three-page handout from my allergist of food additives I can no longer eat. While they say label reading will become routine, I am convinced that our food is 40% actual food and 60% chemicals!

MarsGal, I remember that cam as Pete's Pond, and their daytime is opposite mine, but I enjoy their highlights! My list of cams is the longest entry in my favorites. I'm constantly finding new ones. Jackson Hole, Wyoming has several of the city centers alone, as do many cities in Maine. NYC and Miami are favorites.

Marilyne, it's the magpie portion in my brain that seeks out shiny and bright trivia. I don't Google as it logs your keystrokes, But DuckDuckGo is a very comprehensive search engine and better than Microsoft's Bing and others.

Lemon meringue is my favorite as well. I also like mince & after that is all the sides! I'm not a big chicken or turkey fan; I had too much from my dieting years when I was younger.

I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and hope that next year or the one following will see families and friends reunited!

CallieOK

Good Morning.

I've been in the kitchen most of the morning.  Cornbread and biscuit dough (I don't make individual biscuits for this purpose) are baked and "drying out" to be crumbled for dressing tomorrow morning and fruit salad is made.  I need to scoot around to Braum's for milk after lunch so I can make the chocolate dessert.

Son's bronchitis is much better but Dil will bring turkey and ?? for a "lunchtime swap" tomorrow and I will eat alone.
I plan on "binge watching" some recorded t.v. shows and probably things I have on my Netflix list.

Marilyne,  Miss Ellen has never come home for Thanksgiving but has always gotten together with NYC friends. Have I mentioned that she once took turkey on the subway to a friend's apartment?  She's working today and probably will on Friday but she/roomies will undoubtedly figure out something fun to do.

Doubt that Sir Carson will spend tomorrow hunting (Mom would object!) and not sure he'll go over the weekend because, at last report, he has an ear infection.  Doesn't mean he'll do the wise thing and stay home but Gammy can hope.

Patricia,  I was so sorry when Pete's Pond went away.  Wasn't it "sponsored" by National Geographic and they stopped doing so?
What do you mean by "Google counts keystrokes"?  Why does it matter and what do they do with them?

Off to eat a bite of lunch and finish prepping for tomorrow.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Blessed Thanksgiving :pumpkinpie:

Callie, when you say counting key stokes, it means that the program or app you're using; records and saves the keystrokes (What you're typing.); for use in Adverts or sales to other companies.

Google is infamous for saving everything you use their various platforms for in perpetuity. They also will protect you from other hackers and thieves while using what you've typed for their own sales to advertisers. Google is spyware, and for that reason, I don't use Chrome, Google Search, or Google Photos. I'm attempting to transition out of Gmail and looking for a better translation app. Below are some links explaining what I'm talking about.

"If you're a grown-up and you've been using the Internet for maybe close to 20 years, Google alone has the equivalent of about three million pages of information about you."

MarsGal

Patricia, it has been so long since I have seen Pete's Pond. I didn't realize this is the same place. There is a vacation lodge there now. Don't know if it was there when it was Pete's. The have a Webpage with on which they have a request for donations to help keep water in the pond(s). That explains the cement structure I saw and the weird sounds at night. The structure is probably the top of a cistern, and the sounds are likely water being pumped into the pond, or it could be the elephants off camera sloshing about. But I am just guessing. This earlier, when I looked there were only a few antelope in the distance.

I am planning on doing a marinated pork roast in the crock-pot on Thanksgiving. The cats, I am sure, would have liked turkey. They love fresh roasted turkey, but will have absolutely no part of canned turkey. Maybe for Christmas. What I don't like is that this last year or so, the less expensive brands of turkey breast are coming packed with a big bag of gravy. I am not paying $3-4 dollars a lb. for that. The boneless rolled turkeys are going for $5 and up here. The day I went into Karn's, they were short handed and didn't have all their stuff out in the display cases. There weren't any fresh turkeys on display. I kind of forgot, what with picking out boneless chicken thighs, breasts and pork chops, to ask about the small, fresh turkey breasts.

CallieOK

Patricia,  I know what keystrokes are.  If you had said "Google tracks what you type and uses it for ads", I wouldn't have asked the question.  ;)
There isn't anything else to know if Google has 3 million pages about me.  ;D

Interesting that the Africa cam site you mentioned is the same as Pete's Pond.  I miss the person who ran the cam and exchanged comments with viewers.

Trip to Braum's done and fruit salad made.  First layer of dessert (powdered sugar, cream cheese and Cool Whip) is chilling in the graham cracker crust.  Thank goodness for a food processor; makes the mixing sooo much easier.

Off for another "sit-down".

Callie, I'm an explainer. I blame it on those years in middle management. I will also look up examples and or links to the most questioned information, sorry.

MarsGal, It was the same when I went shopping on Monday. There was a printed apology that they were out of all the large turkeys and were then rationing the turkey breasts out one to a customer. Paper goods were also rationed out two to a customer, but nothing else seemed short.

I was surprised but not that much to learn that Google also listens in and tracks your nest hubs and their other smart in-home products.

Callie & MarsGal, Pete's Pond is a small corner of a wildlife preserve in Nambia. The cam operation went broke, and Explorer picked it up.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!

I hope everyone will have a wonderful day,  however you spend it.

I had ordered our Thanksgiving dinner from a favorite restaurant of ours.  I was originally going to have dinner at my place, as it was only going to be my 2 sons and DIL and me, but the more I thought about it,  I decided that we all should just stay in our own places.  They all are out during the day among other people and I am not, so I just felt it wasn't worth taking a chance. And, they all were ok with that.

My DIL picked up the dinner yesterday and she will just divide it up among us. So, that is how we will spend Thanksgiving this year.

It is a pretty sunny day with the temperature in the mid- 60's,  Nice day to be outside.

Please stay safe.

Tarantino Wholesale Foods Distributor Recalls Ready-to-Eat Chicken Breast Products That May be Undercooked

Tarantino Wholesale Foods Distributor, a San Diego, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 1,115 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken breast products due to undercooking, resulting in the potential survival of bacterial pathogens in the products.

Marilyne

Good morning all!    Looks like Thanksgiving was a big success for everyone who has posted S&F today, whether you spent it together with family, with spouse, or with yourself!  There are things to be grateful for, even in this miserable year of 2020.    I thought about it a lot  during the day yesterday, and came up with a few positive things that have been good about this year.

Here's hoping we hear from our usual posters here in B&T, plus anyone else who is looking in.  Nothing of interest to report from this household.  Just the two of us, enjoyed a small meal that we pieced together from Whole Foods and Safeway.  Not the greatest, but adequate.  They say that turkey has an enzyme in it called triptophane, that encourages sleep.  I believe it, because I had a peaceful night's sleep, which is very unusual for me!  :)

patricia19

Good morning Marilyne from a cloudy Interior. I, too, hope we shall see more reporting in. It's still dark beyond my balcony at 8:35 AM. I'm definitely looking forward to the winter solstice on December 21st so that we begin to regain light, and with more light comes warmer, thawing temperatures.

I had a nice holiday, visited on the phone with friends, others online, and ate far too much. Even my eggs, potatoes, and onions to my game mincemeat pie were local from the Interior and friends. I feel blessed. And also thankful I won't have to do more than assemble and reheat for some time!     ::)

CallieOK

Good Afternoon from a sunny but chilly central Oklahoma.

Yesterday was very pleasant.....after I finally got the dressing made!  Had forgotten to get celery and simply could not get my hands to wield the big knife strong enough to chop the onion. Decided to use the food processor and it pulverized the onion.  Hands also didn't want to crumble cornbread and biscuits as well as they "used to" (can we say possible arthritis setting in  >:( ).

It came out of the oven just about the time DIL arrived to do the "food swap".  She brought four microwave-save divided dishes each containing a big slice of turkey, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes - along with some cranberry jelly. She also brought a slice of pumpkin pie.

So I not only had Thanksgiving dinner; I have leftovers!  :smitten:

Spent a pleasant afternoon/evening watching the t.v. shows I mentioned.

Now doing laundry and putting away dishwasher load of big bowls, etc. I used yesterday.  I think I'm resigning from making the dressing as of this year!!

Onward and Upward.

FlaJean

We had a lovely Thanksgiving with Gigi and Jeff.  The food was delicious.  I'm not a big eater anymore but I sure finished off a plateful of food yesterday!

We are having a beautiful sunny day with good temps in the low 70s.

We watched the National Dog Show which I always enjoy.  Then the Dallas-Washington game.  My grandson, Jason, who just died was a huge Washington fan and I thought of him and how much he would have enjoyed that game yesterday.

My daughter-in-law is still having a hard time with Jason's passing and said she was unable to think of Thanksgiving and just skipped it entirely.  Jason and his family used to visit around Thanksgiving every year since he moved to Calif, so the memories were just too much for her to bear this year.

I hope all of you had a nice Thanksgiving and sure hope life soon becomes normal again.

Amy

Callie, I tried to cut my pie dough and the knife beat me!! I know what you mean about no strength. I am sure in time mine will come back..I hope!!

When you make your dressing ,do you make it the same way we do with bread but use cornbread? Since I love stuffing I thought I might try that one.

CallieOK

Amy, my cornbread dressing recipe:

6 cups crumbled cornbread (I make a double recipe of the one on the cornmeal bag - but NO SUGAR!!!!)
2 cups crumbled biscuits
1 quart + 1 can chicken broth heated
1 stick oleo (1/2 a cup)
2 cups chopped onion
2 cups chopped celery
6-8 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. black pepper
3/4 tsp. poultry seasoning
Crumble cornbread and biscuits into large bowl.  Add about 1 cup broth to moisten.
Saute onion and celery in melted butter.
Add all the beaten eggs, onion/celery and seasonings.
Add the rest of the broth.
Mix lightly but well.    (Mixture may look "runny" but using less broth will make it dry.)

Sppon into a lightly greased 10"x13" baking dish - filling about 3/4 full.  (Can use a 9" x 12" and another smaller dish)
Bake at 350ºF for 40-45 minutes until browned and a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Amy

Callie, thank you, will print this off . Will enjoy this very much... I would like to say I would freeze some but there may not be any left :)
Thank you again.

Denver

HAPPY day after THANKSGIVING to all.  I posted a message to all yesterday morning and must have neglected to post it😩 We had a delightful TG with Dr. Dave's Family in Vail.  Michele ordered a wonderful meal from Whole Foods that we picked up here in our area and drove it up to Vail.  Dave did all of the preparing the dishes and our meal was delicious.  Michele is not feeling very well, as she is having some bad effects from the new chemo pills, but as always she did her best to partake in the festivities.  Dave took the kiddos skiing this morning so we enjoyed some quiet time with Michele before heading back to Denver.

Happy to read the posts telling what each of you did yesterday.

CALLIE, I have the same issue with my hands, thanks to "Arthur"!  I can do less and less with my hands and I drop a lot of things and of course the pain is awful.

MARILYNE, your kind words are so appreciated.  Oh how we all wish we could be with all of our loved ones😘

AMY, I certainly hope and pray your strength will return in your hand.

JEAN, happy to read you enjoyed your meal yesterday.  We also watched the National Dog Show AND the Washington / Cowboy's Game and cheered loudly for Washington beating Dallas!

PATRICIA, happy to read you enjoyed your meal that friends made for you.

I am going to say goodnight....always tired after a wonderful time spent with family.

Sweet dreams.

Wow! What a lovely holiday site makeover to wake up to this morning. Thank you to those responsible.

It is 44oF and mostly cloudy this morning. I must go feed George's cats a in while. This afternoon I hope to dig out some cat proof decorations and put a few up this year. Shan will probably try to help.
