SANDY and SHIRLEY, you really can't tell how anyone will react when you speak to them. I once had a "lady" come through my line at WM and I heard her answer the person behind her in a nasty voice.  When she got to the counter, I noticed that she was wearing an angel pin and after I said "hello" I remarked that her pin was really beautiful and that I'm particularly partial to angels.  She broke out in a wide smile and thanked me.  Then she told me that it had been her mother's and that it's her favorite.

I always tried to bring customers out of their funk.  But I don't think SANDY's elevator mate wanted to lose her funk!

I have the Sand Tarts mixed and waiting in the fridge.  I think a nap is in order.  I didn't sleep very well last night.  Then I can do cutouts when I wake up!  Sounds like a winner to me

Shirley, thank you. Yes, he has driven in about everything and doesn't tell Mom till years later.

Sandy,I agree with what Jane and Shirley have said. I also have been in business and will try to bring the person around but some people like to keep on sucking that lemon . Really too bad because life has a lot to give.

I had a young girl working for me and she was a hoot!!

Good mid-morning from an Interior at plus four. We have been bouncing between pluses and minuses for the past couple of weeks, never straying far from zero. There has been absolutely nothing worth noting other than yesterday, graders and dump trucks finally broke up and cleared away the snow left on the sides of the roads and even sidewalks since that freak storm in early November.

They spent all day in the streets in my neighborhood. My pessimistic side says it happened due to all the rain and resultant ice, while my more pragmatic side says they're short-handed and finally found the cash and workforce. I hate it when I can't get in a good sulk just because of that bully, reason.

We also have llamas and alpacas here and have some time in the local farms and wood bison and Icelandic and miniature horses. Llamas are not that nice. They tend to be grumpy, and they spit with perfect aim.

Yesterday was the last day of my food restrictions, and while I didn't want to start them in the holidays, I've felt so much better; more sleep and better skin and attitude that I don't want to go off the restrictions! The only item that was promised & never happened was weight loss, and I think it was because fresh, non chemically addicted food is, well, addicting!

Callie, I can't remember if I mentioned Emily's achievement? I know you're very proud of how farsighted and hardworking both Emily and Ellen are!

Shirley, we've never lost power, to my knowledge, due to weather. It has always been something like an idiot crashing into a transformer or something similar. I hope you're lucky not to have deep snow.

Amy, reading about waltzing with a snowblower reminds me there is some good to let others do building and yard maintenance. I have enough trouble wrangling the vacuum!

Good morning Gloria! Phyllis, I've never made squash soup. Do you have a recipe to share? Shirley, about the mask, hairpins?

Jane, I just looked at our weather, and we're going to have a high of plus nine and a low of minus 18. We're to be below zero until early next week.

Sandy, let it go as she was probably passing her mood along. We have a couple of like-minded people here, and they wonder why everyone avoids them?

My older sister is like that. Even her kids have cut her out of their life, and her husband divorced her. Her only topics of conversation are her and what she has or plans to buy. My younger sister is the only one still in contact with her.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for all the nice comments about Miss Emily.  I found an Etsy web site that has gifts for chiropractic grads and got her a key ring with several little charms on it.  One is a tiny "plaque" that reads "She believed she could do it and so she did."  That describes Em perfectly.

Miss Ellen just arrived - no problems  - flight actually landed a few minutes early.

Forecast looks as if it will be pleasant weather for family trip to Commencement.

All is well in Oklahoma!  :smitten:

P.S.  Shirley and Jane,  I'm probably equal driving distance from Wichita and Tulsa.  So I'll host a luncheon for a Group Gathering.

Just curious Callie...what would the distance be from Tulsa to your area?  I know, I can look it up but my eyes are tired tonight and by tomorrow, I'll probably forget.

I didn't get either of the cookies baked today because my eggs were too big!  I know, that sounds like a weird excuse but that's all I can think of.  I had them in the fridge for 3 hours and they should have been set but they were really wet.  And by the time I added more flour, and put them in the fridge again, I didn't feel like doing them.  I was already involved in something else.  So I'll do them tomorrow.  I'm sure not going anywhere in this mess.  I was just out with Mickie and it's still coming down and not supposed to stop until sometime tomorrow.

AMY, I'm sure being a truck driver, David gets into all kinds of situations on the road.  I don't think I'd like having one of my kids or grandkids on the road to "who-knows-where" on a regular basis.  It was hard enough just knowing Frankie was driving home from work in her very first snowfall today.  I was so nervous until I got the text, "I'm parked and in the house".

Now I'm going to go to bed early because I didn't sleep well last night and my eyes keep slamming shut and I'm getting a headache from all the slamming noise!

I'm off to the haystack and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy, germ-free, road-clear tomorrow. It is really pretty out there right now, though!

Nighty-night Everyfriend!

Good evening 🎁

We watched the national news tonight and they were showing all the bad weather headed up the Eastern Coast.....sure hope you all are safe and keeping warm.

Another busy day that came and went quickly.

SANDY, I am sorry the lady in the elevator left you feeling sad.  These days you just can not tell who wants to be nice and those that do not.  A couple of days ago we were out and I had more than enough time to pull out without causing any problems to the traffic coming along.  As we approached the red light ahead this big black truck came by the side of me honking and flipping me off.  He got stopped by the same light and continued to hang out of the window and wave his finger at me.  I do not know why it bothered me, but it did.  It was totally uncalled for for many reasons and that is why it got to me I guess.  I just do not understand why people have to be nasty, but I guess we do not know what has caused them to be this way.  We truly should feel sorry for them, and I truly do.

CALLIE, happy to read Miss Ellen has arrived .  I am holding good thoughts and saying prayers for the rest of the family as they travel to be there for the commencement. They showed some pretty nasty weather around Kansas City.

GREAT....somehow I managed to chop off the lower half of my post.....
POOF it is gone😩😩

PATRICIA, glad you have reached the end of your food restriction time  and you feel better for it.  The best to you as you continue forward.

SHIRLEY, we have seen new cars here with placards that expired in June and they still can not get in to buy their new plates.  I suppose some of those may be avoiding the fee if they are out of work.

JANE, I hope you sleep better tonight.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Up early, fed cats & me and wanted to see how the weather is on the east coast. I have a grand & family living in Falls Church, VA now. Just got the cutest Christmas card from them yesterday, photos of the family on their adventures in that historic area. Do hope it isn't as bad as weather guessers predicted.

Jenny, I had a car cut in front of me so close I hit the horn (it works when I have to slam on my breaks)... he made all the cute gestures with his finger so I grabbed a note pad I keep in the big container on the passenger seat... I waved the pad in the window since I could see him watching me in his rear view mirror & motioned to his tag... & he zoomed off because he didn't want to give me a chance to write down his tag number. Gave him something to think about. Of course if he had a gun I wouldn't be snickering at this right now. Some times I just can't handle being bullied. After driving station wagons & vans all the years raising kids I was surprised how many bigger cars & trucks will take advantage of small cars. Crazy!

Back to bed, cats looking sleepy but Tom sitting at the door. He thinks as long as he is in the house he must be eating and when tummy full he should go out (if dark) to hunt. The "feels like" temp was in the teens so too cold for an old Tom Cat to be out.  ;D  Most of our snow melted with the sun yesterday.

For the travelers I hope any more snow will wait until after Christmas & New Year holidays, but to be honest, we need the moisture. I will have to drag out a hose & water some of my plants if we don't get more snow or rain soon. When we lived in western KS I made sure I watered deep at least once a month. One time it got colder during the day & I had a whole yard full of ice covered shrubs & grass!

Better go get more zzzzzzzzzzs. I have to keep track of my oxygen level & it goes down when I don't get enough sleep. I am doing good when I get 6 hours in a row but that isn't very often. I haven't had time for naps some days & can always tell. AGE has a way of making it harder & harder to keep on doing, doesn't it?   :christmastree:

Amy

Good morning everyone...

No snow yet and temp is  sitting at 6°. We have all our wants and needs in other than meds and may get that later today or first thing tomorrow.
I still didn't get the shortbread cookies done. Ended up doing other things plus cutting up  for Clementine  marmalade and will jar it today.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It stopped snowing sometime early this morning.  I haven't heard and official report of how much snow we've had but I had to carry Mickie through it to the street this morning.  She absolutely refused to go close to the house where it wasn't so deep.  But she didn't waste any time once we got on the plowed road.

It was up to my knees and I measured with a yardstick and that's 14 (or so) inches.  Add two inches for my boots and we've had about 16 inches.  Carrying Mickie and plowing through the snow wasn't easy and I'm taking a break now.  At least I don't have to shovel it.  My friend Mavis (2 houses down) and my younger friends across the street invested in a snow blower together.  We helped pay and he plows. When he finishes the driveway, I'll have some work to do on the porches but at least I don't have to do the BIG STUFF!

I hope everyfriend and their families are all safe and sound and staying warm and germ free!  Enjoy your day!

We were so lucky here.  Just a cold rain and a really dreary day but no snow and not even any ice here at my area.  Sorry that the rest of you on the East coast are not able to say the same.  Please be careful.  And stay warm and safe.

Thanks for the link, Amy.  That's a good site.  I don't have any condensed milk on hand but I'll be making out a grocery list later today and I'll add a can of milk to it.  Not many Christmas goodies around this house this year and we will miss them.  I'll especially miss the homemade Peanut Brittle since I made that every year.  Probably better for our teeth.  ;)  I may give in and order a box of chocolates...we'll see.

The squash soup was even better than usual.  I made it in the Instant Pot but it works fine on top of the stove or even in the Crock Pot.  This the recipe I have always used and only substitute a can of evaporated milk for the pkgs. of cream cheese because I always keep the evap. milk on hand.  There are a bunch of Butternut Squash Soup recipes on this site...take your pick.

Good morning everyone, looks like we got at least  a foot  of snow and the wind is blowing it around. A light snow with it being down in the teens so no sticking to the pine trees so not pretty.
not up to talking much. My daughter was late getting on Skype yesterday. She took my SIL to the emergency room and they did a few  tests and kept him in the hospital for a few days. He has too much sodium in his system and they wan tto know why. Like me  they use very li ttle salt. Wish I was there with her. They had the covid t est  a few weeks ago and were both nega tive. I know they both have a cold but that is all I know.

No Yve tte today. her boss texted all of them to stay home today. She called me earlier.

Goodness almost noon and I have not had breakfast yet.

Have a good day and s tay safe and healthy.

Just tried to call my son.....still no word regarding his Covid test😤 Doesn't he know his mama is wondering?  I did see a picture of his back yard today.....WOWZERS did they ever get the snow!

Yes, please, AMY, I would love some of the marmalade you are making!

GLORIA, I hope nothing turns up bad from the tests they are running on your SIL.

Have a good day.

Good afternoon from a sunny, snow-melting temperature Central Oklahoma.

I'm so grateful that Miss Ellen's flight left NYC before The Snow arrived.  Interesting view of snow machines removing snow from Times Square on that webcam this morning.  They were using a "tractor" with some kind of big roller on the front to completely remove what was left after the plows had pushed the accumulation off an area.
Is this machine something that's common in the East?  If it works as well on ice...we need it in Oklahoma!

Janie, Just curious Callie...what would the distance be from Tulsa to your area?
Depending on what area of Tulsa (or Wichita) you start from, it's a little over 2 hours driving time. However, I think most folks allow closer to 3 hours.

Son/dil (uncle/aunt to Grands) are coming for dinner tonight.  Hope I remember how to get a meal for more than one person on the table while everything is still hot.  ;)

Wishing Everyfriend an Enjoyable Day - and those of you in the East a warm and cozy one.

Amy

Jenny, putting marmalade in the hidey hole for you. I do hope you soon hear from your son about his test.

The Northeaster that just went through reminds me of the ones we got in late October and then again in early November. Of course, the East has a more dense population than us. Altogether, 18" of snow, and last Monday, they finally came back through and cleared the sidewalks and sides of the roads left from before. The Arctic is very dry, and since you need humidity to snow, we usually don't have much other than March. Both storms and the accompanying ice storms came as an unwelcome surprise, and we're told they had to scrounge for equipment.

Phyllis and Amy, thanks for the recipes!

Denver

I just checked out the marmalade AMY, and boy is it delish! Did get text....son does not have Covid but is still very sick! Ugh!  He had a flu shot and they are hunkered down except for kids going to school, so not sure why he is so ill?  I did copy down the recipe so maybe I will make some but I do not have jars or any canning stuff, so???  Maybe one day.

CALLIE, enjoy the meal with your son and DIL.  Best of luck getting it ready and on the table!  I am not very good at doing this task anymore either.

JaneS

I guess I didn't measure very well because the authorities are saying that we've had 18 inches of snow in my part of the world!  I'm all cleaned out front and back but the snow plow guy must have lifted the plow early for the end of the road because he left an awful lot of snow on our end of the street.

I finished one batch of cookies.  They are the ones that were way to runny yesterday and they're beautiful and tasty today.  I put a plateful in the Hidey Hole.  They're chocolate crinkles and we've made them since my kids were little. Just wouldn't be Christmas without them!

I did a bit of shoveling myself but don't tell my daughter.  She made a special trip over here to do the front steps and sidewalk and a place for Mickie to "go" out there!  She asked me point blank who did the shoveling that was already done when she got here and I just said, "I can't imagine!  It could have been Steve".  You see I didn't really lie to her!

But I'm planning on a hot bath in Epsom Salts tonight.  Either that or a day of suffering tomorrow.

Sounds like you all are getting things done!  Keep up the good work!  I'm being a busy and then lazy....

Jenny, I have had only one case of the flu in my life. It was horrible; I was out for five days from work, headaches, nausea, chills running up and down my limbs, and no energy for probably a week afterward. The kicker? I had a flu shot, my one and only, and that gave me the flu. That was in 1985, and I hadn't had the flu before nor since.

The shot may be where his flu came from. The doctor said mine was an unusual case but....

Shirley

Jane, I love those chocolate crinkles & we also made them every Christmas! Can sure tell we grew up at the same time, even if half a country apart.

Amy, my Mom made orange marmalade that I really liked, been so long ago I forgot about it. I can't even remember what it tasted like for sure.

Gloria, hope nothing too wrong with Gary... I don't know anything about that, do remember that June was low on sodium & still have the info she posted about it. I am a terrible salt alcoholic & try hard not to use so much. Alas, no will power. :-[

Need to call my sister-in-law before someone else calls me. Yesterday I must have been on everyone's list. 2 of the phones waved a surrender sign to recharge! Never had that happen before. Nearly all of my old friends have called & think a better idea than cards. I still have not gotten to a store to buy cards so may not send any this year. Besides, I also forgot to buy stamps! Phone calls are easier.

Hi, Patricia!

Amy

Good morning everyone.

Another chilly one with a temp of 4° We are off to meet up with David. Jane he got home yesterday (thank you God) he came ahead of the storm but talked to a buddy who got caught in the storm and had to park up. We are exchanging gifts and wearing our masks and no hugs :( :'(

Shirley, nice to talk with friends and catch up on what is happening in their life.

Jane,I think my baking is done , well maybe pie for Kyle!

Better go get my city duds on and load up the van.

Enjoy your day and stay safe please..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I have my day planned beginning right after Mickie and I have breakfast.  If all goes well I'll be ready for Christmas and compamy by the end of the day tomorrow....Sunday at the latest!

First off, I have my list for Cathy but I'm not sure if she's shopping tonight, tomorrow or Sunday!  Then I'll have the last of my stuff to wrap.  Second, I'm GOING to finish the cookies today.  I have the sand tarts left to do and that's rolling and cutting.

Then I have to wrap the fruit cake for delivery on Sunday.  I'll take it to the church parking lot and coordinate with another distribution from the church Sunday afternoon.  The wrapping takes time because I'm not real handy with saran wrap any more.

Each time we go out, I try to clear a little more "go space" for Mickie.  This snow is over her head and she's been hard pressed to find a good spot!

AMY, prayers are answered.  David is home!  I hope he gets to stay there until after Christmas!  And I hope you come home safe today!

SHIRLEY, one of the best things to come out of this Pandemic is phone calls with friends.  Even my good friend who lives right down the street!  And I was surprised to have one of my neighbors call me.  We've talked when she was out on the porch but never on the phone.  She just called me one day to ask if all was well with me.  She's older than me and pretty much confined to her home.  Her husband goes out from time to time but I've never seen her go with him.  She is on some kind of breathing apparatus.  She's the one whose Great Grandchildren have made friends with my dogs!  They are such nice kids (girl 8 and boy 5)  Their mother is a sweetie too!

It's almost time for the boinger and then the day begins.  I forgot to mention that laundry is on the list, too.  So that will fill in the cracks.  I wish you all a good day, better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I enjoyed the video, Amy.  Does David decorate his truck for Christmas?  I'm glad he is home and safe from the storm.  I had a nephew in Kansas that was a truck driver and his wife always worried about him when he was on the road.

Cold, but sunny this morning.  Looks nice outside my window.

Nothing planned except David will pick up groceries later on this morning.  The last of the pkgs. that I had shipped arrived at their destination yesterday so I can relax now.  The only thing that never made it was my medicine that just disappeared somewhere over Ohio but the pharm. sent an emergency supply by another carrier and it got here fine so all is well.

Good morning everyone,19 now, looks like will get in to the 20's today but another gray day.
Wa tching out the window yesterday at the tenants with cars going out at different times to clean their cars off.    There is a guy who cleans and moves the cars for rhem but he charges to do that. $5.-, to me it is worth that and more but some cannot see paying for what they can do but a few cannot do much. One of the new ones is way at the end of the long hall and she has a hard time moving. She has a cane and holds on to a cart of some kind. Yesterday I watcher her going out and being even slower walking because of the snow  left from the plow, The maintenance man saw her and hollered something to her ahd she stopped. He helped her back to the porch and sent the other guy to clean and move her car. Paul-maintenance-is good, he goes above his job. He is great helping all of us. Of course as usual this town got the most snow, 14 inches.

JENNY  when they went to the ER they did a covid  test of bo th of them. Yes terday she heard from the Hosp. tha t she was clean but my SIL had the virus.

CALLIE  I never saw anything like you were talking about clearing the snow. Maybe in  the big cities but not in towns like this.

AMY  great link.

LLOYD  we are in the deep freeze here. Not used to it this cold anymore. Been a few years sisnce we had ths much snow, too.

Merry Christmas

WOW what a year so far.

And NO I am not the Grinch trying to steal Christmas

As I enter this Christmas season

Knowing it will feel different than any other.

And that I expected,  I am not letting my guard down.

Were all eager to express our love of another

However, get real , we can pass it up this year

Staying home , not getting infected nor infecting anyone else

WE WILL HAVE

  more Christmas' to come.

Joey will get along without mouths full of

favorite delicacies.

He/she will enjoy LIFE much more.

As we pushed through 2020

some how we found joy and contentment

attempting to save the lives of those we love.

In the spirit of optimism, rejoice  rejoice rejoice

praying for better tomorrow's

Inspired by a world that has continued to find wonder

in the most unlikely of places

in the human race.

Remaining connected yet staying so far apart for now

Yes it won't hurt you, keep the traditions going

knowing they get better when we can celebrate

the demise of this ugly Covid.

All you can do not have an empty chair at your table

Continue the Spirit

Keep joy in  the season

Joy in your heart

loving each other

peace in the moment, for it will pass

with more bountiful  Christmas days ahead

I with few steepens,  have donated any Christmas

gratuities I may splurge on, surrendered

with joy to my County's food shelf
