I tell men, if you want to impress a woman don't send her flowers, send her a maid. Because if you spend $55 on a dozen roses, they're dead the next day. A maid costs about $40 and you still have $15 dollars left to get Chinese food and one rose. By the time you come over we have  cleaned, and you have food, a rose, and you.

"Swinging on a Star" - Bing Crosby

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
He kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He's got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Everyday you'll meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

Thank you for cleaning up the Soda Shoppe and bringing in all the new decorations, BUBBLE!  I like all of them but I love the advice to the gentleman friend.  She hit the nail on the head!  And you included one of my all time favorite songs.  I can be heard singing that one around the house all the time!  And it's one of the few that I know all the words.  I can still hear Bing Crosby singing it!

We've been out in the snow this already this morning.  I don't know how much is supposed to be there but I was wearing boots that come a bit above my ankles and the snow was half way up them.  I had to kick a path for Mickie.  She's a shortie but Cooper jumped over and through evrything.  And it's still coming down.  It's supposed to continue until 6 tonight and there's a 50% chance of more tomorrow!  I think we're officially "SNOWED IN"!

The only thing on my agenda for today is to clear some of the snow off the front walk and make a place for Mickie to walk into the yard to do whatever it is she won't do in the snow.  And later in the day, I have a new recipe to try!  I'm pretty sure, Frankie won't be going to work today or coming here to get Cooper.  She's a late-blooming driver and is still more than a bit nervous whe it snows and that's good.

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

AMY, the song Bubble posted is "Swingin' on a Star"  But I like "Catch a Falling Star" too! Unfortunately, I have to "da-da-dah" a lot in that one.  I forget some of the words.

Snow's up to the top of my boots now.  I guess that means I stay in the house.

Back in the fifties and sixties, January and especially February could see two weeks of minus fifty thru minus seventy weather. I once walked four miles each way to work at minus sixty-eight.

I wore silk long johns, two pairs of socks, the outer wool, two mitten pairs, one mitten with gloves over along with a neoform face mask and a hooded snowmachine suit. My glasses went into an upper pocket as they would have condensation freeze and I used bike paths anyway.

In those days schools and employment never closed. If you wanted to get paid, you showed up at work. The only time they started closing schools in cold weather was when the ice fog got so bad it was a driving hazard. All the parking lots had plugins for cars so you could keep the engine block warm.

In the late eighties and nineties, it was a little warmer. Since two thousand, we rarely see minus twenty-five or below. And if we do, it's generally only for one day here and there.

Here is a little blurb from NPR in 2014,  https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2014/02/21/280767153/forget-the-local-cold-worldwide-it-was-another-hot-january

We have had -30 weather and like you not too often in the past few years. I remember going to home ec and we couldn't wear slacks in class ,always a dress or shirt. We had to walk over a long bridge with the wind blowing. To tackle that trip we would wear slacks under our dress/skirt and then hike the legs up under our dress /skirt so the teacher couldn't see them.  Mercy that was a long cold walk from our school to the one that had home ec.

The teacher at home ec did teach us a lot, a lot that at the time we wondered why but as life opened up you recall some of her teachings. When I joined  a quilt group, a few years back ,one of the ladies there had the same last name. So I inquired if she knew this other lady........turns out it was her Mom!!  Small world..

We had the same dress code until the sixties. No pants, no jewelry unless it was small, and the boys wore slacks, and their hair couldn't touch their ears. We wore pants under our skirts or dresses and took them off when we arrived at school.

Luckily, we lived just across a vacant lot from the school and Junior high until freshman year. Unfortunately, in high school, I was just short of the distance limit for buses.

It was only after the early sixties when boys and girls weren't limited to certain classes. For example in my school, girls had home ex and boys had woodworking, and classes were segregated.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was out with the doggies and it's still snowing.  My good neighbor across the street plowed my driveway around 5 yesterday and it has as much snow now as it did when he plowed.  Also, I'm the last house on the dead end street and the plow has taken to stopping a fourth of the way before my driveway ends.  If there are two cars one has to move to let the other out or we need a strong giant to move what they leave there.

The doggies have been out and we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.  I do have to make up a batch of dog food before I can feed Mickie.  Cooper's is ready but her's isn't.

I think this will be another day in the house.  Mickie will be able to take her walks but she can never find a place to go after a snowfall.  Later, I'll try to shovel out the front and also a place in the yard for Mickie.  Cooper is tall enough to just jump around in the snow and he appears to love it.

Now I'm off to the kitchen to get the dog food started.  I wish you all a good day...not as good as yesterday but better than tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't make it here yesterday but it was a hair-pulling day.  I think I'm signed up for my Covid vaccination tomorrow afternoon but it was a confusing and stressful time getting it done.  Not the most efficient process I've ever gone through.  I hope tomorrow goes more smoothly because we have to drive clear to the other side of Raleigh to get the shot.  Not looking forward to that trip at all.  And David still hasn't gotten notice to make an appointment.  Well, I mustn't complain.  I'm just grateful to get this far along in the process.

And then, there was a mix-up with my on-line pharmacy about a duplication in prescriptions and I'm still not sure that has been straightened out or whether I am going to be charged several hundred dollars for medicine that I didn't order.  Oh, well, the medicine will get used eventually and I would have had to pay for it anyway.  I just didn't expect to pay so much all at once.

Sorry for all of you up in the NE.  What a terrible storm!  We've had a few flurries and a lot of rain and some icy roads north of us but all in all, we did very well.  I hope things ease off for all of you "up there" soon.

Amy, tell Kyle I love his joke (?) about custard's last stand.  That's the kind of humor my husband would have come up with, too.  Laughter in a marriage is a good thing, isn't it?

Take care, All.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND ✍️

Thank you, BUBBLE, for the nice February SS you have made for us.  I loved your offerings, especially the one suggesting your honey get a house cleaner for his tired honey vs flowers that will die!  Great idea😘

Thinking about you all and hoping none of you are having issues with the storms in your area!

I am looking at the "guess who" picture and I am stumped!  She sure looks like a nice lady!

Reading about not being able to wear anything but dresses back in the day sure brought back memories for me.  I, too, wore pants under my dress and had to take them off when I got to school.  Same store regarding jobs in the day....no pants allowed for the most part.  You were never allowed to come to a job and not look professional.  Now days, people all but dress in their pajamas when they go to work or get on a airplane.  Kind of sad really.  Somewhere in the middle would be just dandy.

LLOYD, thank you for sharing the info on how to keep flowers looking beautiful.  I do pretty much that when I get flowers, but have never added the bleach.  For one thing, you have to start out with FRESH flowers to begin with, and many times when I have had a delivery of flowers they are already looking a bit droopy when they arrive.

PHYLLIS, happy to read you are lined up for you Covid Vaccine, but it is unfortunate that it is so confusing to get this accomplished and that you have to drive so far to receive it.  I hope it goes smoothly for you.

PATRICIA, I sure enjoy reading all the stories you share with us.....great details about weather and temperatures!  All I can say is, I am impressed that you folks WAY up there are about to deal with those negative temps.  🥶

Guess I better get myself busy and get something done.  Sure hope we hear from Gloria, and others that have not checked in recently.

Have a good day.

I finally got the 2nd vaccine day before yesterday, on a stormy windy day - I was fearing I would get a cold in the process.
Today I printed the Vaccine certificate to be kept in my bag when going out. I am glad it is done.
No side effect except a headache the first night.

Amy

Sorry......forgot to make the print larger..

   Way to go Bubble!!!

We are home, everything has been put away and now just enjoying a cup of tea. We got into Costco at 8 and out by 8:20 and on the way to the next store. Meet with friends exchanged items and she gave us a jar of peach, pear and ginger jam to try. We gave her Mrs B's mustard pickles to try.

All in all a good day, tiring but  everything worked out fine.

Jane, please keep your snow there...I think come the weekend we may be in for some though.

Phyliss, we have a lot of fun. He once asked me  when he was wearing shorts. (looking for a compliment) what I thought of his calves. Well, the farmer in me came out and I told him I would put them in the barn and fatten them up some. His look was priceless.

Better go see if any mail has come..

Stay safe.

Good morning from a "warmed up" Interior at minus eighteen. The winds came in last night but are due, hopefully, to leave early Wednesday morning. It's below sixty out there with the wind chill. I've seen mostly cars out there, but a few individuals in what looks to be those big green army parkas. I'm four stories up, and the street bordering the courthouse is a block over, so I have a bird's eye view.

Today will be a couch day other than a load of laundry as those chimes I've hung by the window will occasionally rattle. New weatherstripping has been on the list but apparently not an emergency with the pared-down maintenance staff.

Vaccinations for those over sixty-five started on the sixth, but I signed up on the eleventh—no word yet on my schedule other than a list confirmation. I'll be going to one of the health centers about six blocks from here. I admit to qualms as I'm not fond of needles and when I received my first and only flu shot in 1985, I ended up with two weeks of everything included flu. I wish they would come here, but this is neither a nursing home nor assisted living, so I'll go where they point me.

Amy, thanks for my morning chuckle! It sounds as if you two have fun together!

Lloyd Hammond

Good Night and sweet dreams everyone see you all tomorrow.

Good morning..

Going to be a nice day ,a bit windy but that's ok.
Not a lot on the agenda today...work inside and I do have one more eye of the round to cut up and freeze.

Still no Gloria, wonder if her computer is the problem.?

Patricia ,we do have fun , makes the day go by a lot nicer. Our clients shook their heads at us as they would say they couldn't work with their significant other. I would had Kyle what was needed for the job without him asking.

Jane, were you out making snow angels?? I saw on the news the snow in your area..oh my!!

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.
