Good morning, everyone, it's good to be back! I'm still basically on the bed all day, but I do have a walker now.

I started with SeniorNet in 2000 when I purchased my first home computer, and coming from ThirdAge and Ginny Ann. She requested Norm send me a passport, and I really enjoyed my time there. Especially the friendship between Papa John and Norm. Truthfully, SeniorNet was addicting, and I almost lived there!

Marilyne, you're right; no reaction at all, which was nice as I'm needle phobic. The Alaskan Federation of Natives is a huge voting bloc here with lots of political power, and culturally they revere elders. They managed to include all those 65 and over in the second tier. They came to my apartment door, even managed to find a chair for the hallway, and handled it and the aftercare right in the hallway. I was lucky because I could never have traveled to the site, and I'm lucky they were making sure all people could be vaccinated.

The main site besides the health centers was a large events center, and the nurses said that place was an experience with hundreds coming through daily for their vaccinations.

FlaJean

Having a nice sunny day but cold.  44° and feels like 39° according to my weather app.  I'm not going outside to find out whether that's true.

I thought I was keeping up with the posts but don't remember seeing anything about Patricia being sick.  I'm glad you didn't have any reactions from your vaccination, Patricia.

I hope Tome is doing OK in Texas.  Larry's nephew lives in Beaumont and they have to boil their water but didn't lose electricity.

We haven't heard from Beverly in a while.  Nothing much going on in our area.  Waiting for spring.  Don't like this cold weather.

Have a good day!

Jean, last Thursday, the 11th, I fell. Friday, my entire left side was in excruciating pain. I could only roll or army crawl and called an ambulance. It turns out I had badly sprained my left foot and wrenched a calf muscle. After six hours, mainly waiting for X-rays and radiology results, I was sent home.

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

I've already had my "whine" (no cheese  :'(  ;) ) over in the Soda Shoppe so will try to be more positive over here.

Patricia, glad you're home and wishing you a Good Recovery.

FlaJean,  My good friend who moved near her son in Santa Rosa Beach texted this morning that she was in Niceville because she has to have a heart monitor. It's like pulling hen's teeth (as the old saying goes) to get details out of her so I have no idea what this is all about.  I do know she has multiple health challenges.

I watched the Djumba Safari cam for quite a while last night.  The live broadcast switches around to three different parks where commentators and a cameraperson on a mounted camera drive an open vehicle along the roads looking for wild life.  Last night, one was watching a herd of elephants, one was focused on two leopards looking out for lions and playfully "sparring" and the other one was following a pack of wild dogs she thought were looking for a herd of impala.

OKC area that's on OG&E utilities is still having issues and has now recommended (not ordered) that residents who were without water for a while now boil it before using.  News showed several people whose water pipes had burst bringing in buckets of snow to melt for washing (not drinking).

My suburb isn't on OG&E and, so far, has not had the rolling blackouts nor water issues.  My faucets are all on inside walls so I haven't had to leave them dripping.

Have had my Tablet charging and think it's probably at 100% so I'm off to read in my sunny south window.

Sandy

  Congratulations to Everyone
who has had an opportunity to get
their Covid shot.

I keep getting phone calls that I am on
the list and will be getting mine soon.

Which makes me happy and my daughter Kelly
who has been so worried about me,
feels better about it too.

Have a good day Everyone,  stay safe,
wash your hands,  wear a mask or two
and hope that we will not be
exposed to this Covid disaster..

It is Friday evening and I hoped to post here every day and just did not make it!  It has been a bit of a hectic week....cold and dreary weather and some family news that is concerning.

SO pleased to see your post PATRICIA.  You have been in my thoughts and prayer and I will continue to do so everyday!  Good to read that you got your vaccine.  Hope there will be no side effects from it for you! Sweet Farrah is a good girl for watching over you🥰

SANDY, I hope your name comes up SOON and you, too, will be vaccinated!

JEAN, good to see your post....hope it is warming up a bit there too.

I, too, have been thinking about TOME and hoping she is getting along OK.  The awful news out of Texas has bee; extremely concerning.

SHIRLEY, so nice of you to make coffee and have hot water for those that made it in to enjoy it.  I have the fondest memories of our SN time and think of many of the ones we communicated with that are no longer with us.

Pleasant dreams to ALL. Take care.

Patricia - Thanks for posting. Put a smile on my face, which doesn't happen very often these days!  The Marsh family is quite remarkable - to work together on those videos, and turn out something so cute and clever!

Callie - Glad your utilities are all in working order, and no frozen pipes to deal with.  Joanne (Tomereader) has had some problems in Dallas with frozen pipes in her laundry room breaking and flooding, but she still has gas and electricity.    The only other person I know of here un /s&F who lives in Texas, is Cottoncandy, from Bosom Buddies.  I haven't looked to see if she posted today?

shirleyn - I hope you leave some coffee for me tomorrow morning?  I'll be looking forward to a nice fresh cup when I get up.  :D   Oh, also leave me a slice of your coffeecake!  :eat:

CallieOK

Several nice things happened today. Nothing major but enough to put me in a much better mood than I was this morning.

Jenny, A friend in Denver texted "your temperatures are almost as cold as ours." I hope she was mistaken!!

Marilyne, the big issue with water seems to have been breakage in the pipes at various water storage places that affected  whole neighborhoods. Workers have managed to get almost every one back in working order although water pressure may not be normal.

Shirley, looking forward to the goodies. Could you put a kettle on for hot tea? I'll bring my own tea bag. :)

News just reported that we got up to 32 degrees today. WooHoo!

Sleep well, Everyfriend, and have pleasant dreams.

MarsGal

Loved the videos, Patricia. I am glad you are up and around now and were able to get your shot.

Nothing of real interest to report here today. I spent a lot of time yesterday and the day before reading. and finished shoveling the snow yesterday. The trash people decided not to skip pick-up yesterday and will not pick up again until next week. After the last snow storm, which was worse than this one, they did their usual pick-up a day late. I think they were anticipating more ice rain than we got for this one.

I was not real impressed with the Stroganoff I made yesterday. It was a bit too bland. Well, I have plenty left over, so may add Worchestershire Sauce and a little more black pepper. Onion was not in the recipe, and I don't have any at the moment, but I think it could have used some. I think I will stick with my usual recipe.

Tonight the weather service says our temps will get down to 18o before it starts getting warmer over the next week. Right now it is 27o,

shirleyn

Good Morning to all this fine morning.  Sorry I did not make it in yesterday – Fridays are grocery shopping day and I am exhausted when I get home.  After putting everything away, I go lay down for a bit.  Well, I fell sound asleep.  Whew!  I guess I needed it.  So I am a little late this day as Saturdays I give hubby a shave and a haircut right after breakfast & usually go shower after, but decided to get in here & make some coffee and set out the teakettle, for those who prefer it.  Also brought in some apple fritters.  Hope you all like them.

Marilyne, my grandson plays hockey and his team went out to Denver to play their game last weekend.  I haven't heard yet if they won.  Imagine, a Key West kid playing ice hockey!!

Patricia, yes, it was fun watching the fun between Papa John and Norm.  I just read about your accident – I sure wish you a speedy recovery & was so sorry to hear about it.  I was also glad to see that you got your shot.  By the way, I enjoyed your Marsh family humor.

Jean, it has gotten up to 55 here this morning.  Big change from yesterday's 75!!

Callie I have been enjoying the Djumbe site, but hubby sleeps in his chair right near my computer, so I do not put the sound on.  I know I miss out on a lot of info by doing this.  Every once in a while he goes & lays on the bed for a bit – then I can hear the guys talking.  (the kettle is on & just a whistling away - enjoy)

Sandy, I hope they call you soon.  It is comforting to know there is relief in sight.

Jenny, I also think of our long lost friends from this sight often.  So many have passed and so many just do not come in here any more.

Marsgal, glad to see you made it in here – stroganoff sure does sound good.  I haven't had it in years – hubby is from Key West & does not care for a lot of my northern dishes.  Of course I do not care too much for his Cuban dishes, so there we are.  But then, we are not starving or losing any weight. :-\

Okay, this has gone on too long, so will say bye & have a good day to all ~

Patricia, It takes a while to get over a fall but hope you'll be OK soon.  Enjoyed those videos.  What a talented family.

Here it is almost 10 am and we haven't eaten breakfast yet.  Going to go scramble  some eggs and a sausage.  I'm ready for my one cup of coffee.

I never post on Soda Shop but I'll have to start looking in so I don't miss any posts.

Shirleyn, I'll grab one of those apple fritters to add to my breakfast.😊

MarsGal

:kettle: Smiles all around Shirleyn! I'll take you up on that apple fritter seeing as how I am out of cranberry-orange muffins.

Good to see so many friends here this morning. It's still early here - only 8:20, but I know most of you are heading toward lunch time, and a long Winter Saturday afternoon.

shirleyn - I'm having my first cup of Mr. Coffee, and enjoying an apple fritter!   A breakfast sweet treat, that I haven't had in a long time!   That's interesting that you trim Danny's hair every Saturday.  I only cut AJ's hair about once a month.  I never did it before the Pandemic set in, but all barber shops and hair salons closed here last March.  They opened briefly for about a month in the Fall, but closed again.  I think they are still closed, but I've lost track?   I had never cut his hair before that, but he ordered a barber set from Amazon, and I watched a tutorial on YouTube,  that gave me step by step directions, and it has been really easy!

Good for your grandson - the hockey player!   He's probably a big fan of the Florida Panthers or the Tampa Bay Lightening.  Our San Jose Sharks, play Tampa Bay quite often.   Both AJ, and our son Brad, used to go to the Sharks games in San Jose, quite often.  Now the arena is closed until the Covid epidemic is finally ended, so the Sharks are playing in other venues across the US.  They are doing poorly this season, but we love them anyway!

Jean - Sorry I forgot to wish you a Happy Birthday, a couple of days ago.  This year has gone by so quickly, that special days like birthdays and holidays, have mostly come and gone without any fanfare.  :(   We had some outdoor gatherings, with family - not comfortable, but better than nothing!    Scrambled eggs and sausage sounds good - although I don't have the sausage, I do have the eggs -  so time for breakfast!

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Temperature is "up" to 39 degrees already!  Woo Hoo!!!!

Shirleyn, thanks.  I'm enjoying a cup of Earl Grey right now.  Love the apple fritters.  We used to have a restaurant that served them as a complimentary appetizer - refillable.  One time, the waitress finally told my son she really couldn't bring us any more.  ;D

You can turn on the closed captioning on the Safari site if you click the : in the bottom right corner.  However, it has "creative" spelling and is often hard to figure out what they're talking about.

I saw a recipe for chocolate muffins in the paper a few days ago and may try them...when/if I find that Round Tuit.

Jenny (Denver) Glad to see that the aircraft that blew an engine, didn't harm anyone on the ground.  Plane leaving from Denver Airport, the engine blew and scattered parts through several Denver neighborhoods!

shirleyn

Good Sunday morning everybody.  It is a sunny 54 degrees here where I live.  Supposed to get up to 70.  Well, I finally remembered (funny how thoughts come to ya in the middle of the night) the sweet rolls I used to bring in here for Norm  -  STICKY BUNS!  So thought I would bring them in for you all to enjoy.  Hope you like them.  Coffee is on, and water is hot for the tea – ENJOY!!

Marilyne, I forgot to mention the name of my grandsons hockey team – they are the Murder Hornets.  They lost their first game but won the rest of them.  Of course, being they lost that first game, they lost the tournament.  I have been giving Danny his haircuts and shaves for a number of years now, ever since his barber retired.  Danny is bald on top, so I just trim around the edges.  He also has a slight beard which I trim every week or it gets too long.  Also do his neck.

FlaJean, after reading your comment about going to the SodaShop, I peeked in & will probably make it a habit.  Hope you enjoyed the fritters.

Hey MarsGal, your cranberry-berry muffins sound good, too.

Callie, thanks for the hint on the closed captioning – mine has CC that I click on.  I agree, it is difficult to read, but better than nothing.

So P, I am not good at those games, so will have to pass on that.

I guess this catches me up for today, hoping you all have a great one ~

Hello shirleyn, drop in any time at SS..we would love to see you there. Phyllis posted a 15bean soup and I sure can vouch for it! Delicious rib sticking soup!

Both apple fritters and orange cranberry muffins sound good!! I have just finished picking chicken to put in the freezer for the dogs and soon a raspberry pie will be in the oven..

With all these delicious and tempting recipes coming to light, I'd like to remind everyone that we do have a community recipe board called "What's for Dinner?"

I see Shirleyn has gone beyond "occasional,"  :)  ;)  8) That is so nice to see all jokes aside!

I didn't stop in yesterday because it was simply another day spent in bed other than an occasional walker foray. Farrah has been an excellent feline babysitter!

Daytime temperature actually got to 50*F today!  Driveway, yard and street are clear! :nanadance:

Shirleyn,  The Djuma Closed Captioning on my computer is much more "translatable" than it is on my Tablet, which is usually what I watch it on.
Discovered today that the Safari is available about 10:00 a.m. (CDT) as well as at night. Animals were much more active at the end of the African day than during the heat of mid-day as shown on the late video.

Patricia, I'm so glad Farrah is such a good helper!

I'd been concerned about my car starting after not being driven even to the mailbox for over a week.  #1 son was here yesterday and drove it around a bit.  Will have to remember to check the seat before I go somewhere.  He's a BIG 6'4" and I'm a medium-size 5'1". I tend to forget he needs to adjust the seat as much as he does and can get quite a surprise when I "clunk down" as I get in.

He stopped at Braum's for some things I wanted and was able to get eggs.
So I'm off to fix a nice big omelet, a Grande biscuit and some fruit for supper.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Marilyne

Patricia - I just watched the latest Marsh Family song. Love the verse dealing in conspiracies!  ha ha.  Those girls are so sincere and so cute.

shirleyn - Okay, you'll have to clue me in . . .what's a "sticky Bun"?   I'm sure we have them here, but with a different name?
I told AJ about your grandson's team, The Murder Hornets!  He got a real kick out of that name!   We'd both like the see them in action, but  unfortunately, I don't think we will ever have the chance. :(

Callie - Good that things are warming up in OK.    Now I hope we hear from Tome, that Texas is doing the same?

Joanne - I hope you didn't get one of those $1,000 to $7,000 Texas
utility bills that I heard about tonight on the news! :o   Talk about adding insult to injury!!

MarsGal

Shirley, I love the sticky buns with walnuts on top. I don't buy them often as they are a bit pricey here and I have trouble not eating more than one a day. The cranberry-orange muffins freeze well, so I put some in the freezer which slows keeps me from being too tempted to gobble them in short order. Too many of these bode ill for my weight.

The rain/snow showers haven't arrived yet, but it shouldn't be too long now. The temp at 6:10am is 30o.

I expect to be falling asleep on myself off and on today because I ended up on the phone for around three hours talking with a friend (George's favorite cousin) who lives up in Clinton County. I didn't get off the phone until just before midnight. She is quite a talker. Of course I couldn't get to sleep right away, so read for another half hour or so.

Before the call, I was relaxing by watching/listening to clips from Amazing Places on This Planet. They are wonderful scenic clips with music I really enjoy listening to.

Tomereader1

Hiya!  Thank the good Lord, the power in my direct area did not shut down during the ice storm.  I had to have the water turned off until the plumber could fix the busted pipes behind the washing machine.   At some point, I will probably be shaking my head when the water bills comes in!  I just paid the last one.  Here they include in the bill: water, sewer & sanitation (trash pickup).  My portion for sanitation is 4+ times the amount of the water usage.  The electric is what the electric is: LOL. However, I am on a fixed rate plan, not the one where they can up the rate depending on what it costs them to provide the electric. That's where the high bills come in.
We had a fairly nice day yesterday, it was warm, melted all the snow, though it was mainly overcast with a slight cool wind.  I am running my dishwasher for the first time since this all began.  It goes thru a different set of pipes than my clothes washer.  Later today I will run a small load in the washer, to see if the pipes had cleared of ice, and don't find another place to break!
Wishing you all good (warm) weather, good health and an absence of ice, snow and busted utilities!
Joanne

Good morning!  Running in here a little later than usual.  I had a 9:00 pedi/mani appointment, so am just getting around to the computer.  I usually do not get the pedi, but it had been so long & my feet/toes really needed it!  I just brought in some pumpkin bread this morning, to go with the fresh coffee and tea.  Enjoy!!

Thanks Amy for the invite to visit the SS – I will be giving it a try.  Peeking first, until I get comfortable enough to join in the talk.

Thanks Patricia, for the new label – "beyond occasional".  :D And I will have to look for that Dinner board – I am always looking for something to tempt my fussy eater.  I hope you are improving with your little forays.

Callie, I usually get up around midnite or so & am able to watch the animals, but last night I slept til 3 & when I tried to watch them, it was closed.  And nothing was on the other site.  So I just went back to bed & slept til 6, my usual time for getting up.

Marilyne, Patricia gave you the site for sticky buns.  Don't they look sooo delish?  By the way, my grandson's hockey team was called the IceHoles, but they had to change the name – guess it was too suggestive?  Anyway Murder Hornets sound like a change from Killer Bees. What do ya think?

Marsgal, well, the great thing about eating my sticky buns here in this kitchen is there are no calories involved.  So just use your imagination and ENJOY!!

Okay, that is all you get from me for today – gotta run & catch up with my home duties.  Have a good day you all ~

CallieOK

Merry Monday,

I was awakened much earlier than I intended because something "upset" a skunk right outside my bedroom window. :o

Shirleyn, because of this, I checked on Dujuma about 7:00 a.m. and found it was on. Sorry you missed it last night.  A herd/"bunch"? :) of wild dogs were tracking and then chasing some wart hogs (didn't catch one) and then two lionesses and four cubs were interacting. More action than I'd seen in a while.

Have been busy with desk work and phone calls this morning.  Also placed a grocery order to be delivered later this afternoon.

Joanne, so happy your area didn't have the problems others are experiencing.  I think "the media" always find the worst situations to show - and the people with the most pitiful stories to interview.

Snow is gone here except for a few patches in shady areas.   Don't know where I'd go but it's nice to know I could if I thought of something.

And that's what's going on in my little corner of the world.

shirleyn

Good morning to all.  Another beautiful morning – 64 and expected high of 75!  My kind of weather!  Coffee is on and the tea kettle is whistling.  Help yourselves to the banana nut bread, coffee and tea!

Patricia, thanks for that site about dinners.  I did not get there yesterday, but will try it now.

Callie, I did get into the animal site thru the night, all that was being shown was a sleeping lioness.  And the other site had no wild animals.  I did try the live speaker ( real, real low so it did not bother Danny) and the written words.  That was something else to do both at the same time.  :)

Today we go to the tax guy.  This year they are not doing the taxes while we are there.  I have to leave our info & set up an appt. for the future to get the results.  Oh well, at least they will be getting done.

I hope you all have a great day ~
