I'm sorry to read of sick Buddies and pups.

Jeanne...hope they get to the bottom of your digestive problem.

Sharon...hope Bunnie gets herself straightened out, too.

I hope Mary is better and Darlene is healthy.

Marilyn is probably still tossing stuff and getting ready for her move.

I have a hose for the front and one for the back, now.  I'll see if I can connect them to the faucets there...not an easy task for these hands. We got a smidgen of rain last night...not nearly enough...but I can water again in a day or so.

Roller coaster temps continue....from 80s to 57 this morning.   :idiot2:

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

It's been mighty quiet in here lately.  Folks have pretty much gotten over this "whatever-it-was". And it's gotten exciting, too.  First we went back to the dining room for breakfast. Then, when we went in for lunch, they had moved all the residents into the regular dining room. No more extra tables taking up all the space in the lobby. It was chaos, getting people settled in. There were previous residents missing, and new ones who had never eaten in that area before. I know it'll settle down soon.

I hope everybody had survived this recent bad weather. We've had a couple of lines of severe storms going through, with a number of small tornadoes, and lots of straight line winds, hail, and flash flooding. At least just property damage and no fatalities (so far).

Marilyn, so glad you've had your offer accepted, and can plan your actual move. Hugs!

Good Morning, Babes!

It's a 60 degree sunny day out, and I may try for a short walk when I finish here.

At 2:00 I have a haircut scheduled and that's it for the day!!  Such an interesting life I lead.   :2funny:

Take care...

jane

SharonE

Glad to see Jeanne posting again, but sorry she's having tummy problems. No fun.

Mary, we are all eating in the main dining room now, but we don't go over for breakfast or lunch. Hope everyone gets settled in in yours soon. Our tables are numbered and they give us a # at the door. We've had tornado alerts and heavy rain yesterday, but no problems.

Jane, watering can be a tiresome job. I hope you get enough rain to keep it at a minimum. Hope your hair comes out well too.

Marilyn, take things slowly and take breaks on your work.

Played bridge yesterday and had a great day! Was even the high scorer! Quite a change from the past weeks. I even had a grand slam! Of course, I only bid game, but it was fun playing it. Today my cleaning girl was supposed to come, but they called and said she couldn't come this week for some reason and that they would try to find someone for me, but no word yet.

I called the hospital to talk to the neurology dept about the ultrasound treatment for my tremors. She explained all options, side effects, length, etc. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do, but it is really aggravating having so much trouble eating and writing, especially. She is emailing me all the info, so I can share it with John and review it some more. I'll also forward it to Melanie, since she is the most medically informed of the family and may also face this in the future.

Bunny is still acting funny about her food. I'm wondering if it is just the food itself that she is tired of.

Back later. Sharon

Another cool, windy day here.

Sharon...my cleaning gal called this morning...she suspects she still has strep...although had a shot and on antibiotics for a week. She has a family that's full of heart issues...her parents died in their early 40s, one brother died in parking lot of ER, other sisters have had serious heart surgeries, etc.  I told her to get to the doctor and protect her heart.  She'd called doc's office and told them how she was feeling...bad cough is back.  She'd gone to Orange Beach, AL with girl friends last week and they said that, combined with flying...she needed to be tested for both strep and Covid, though she's had covid previously and had her shots.

I got out to the greenhouse and picked up some geraniums and some coral bells before they're all sold out.  Too cold to put them out yet, but will keep them in the garage or shop.  I then stopped in a couple shops that are only open now Thurs-Sat and picked up a couple items...a colorful wreath, etc.  It felt good to get into a couple stores.  Then I went to my favorite lunch place and enjoyed reading my iPad while eating food I didn't have to prepare! :2funny:

Lilacs are finally blooming and my yard guy is here and much needed.

Take care,

jane

SharonE

Wow, Jane, your cleaning girl really has bad genes. I think I would have a weekly appt with the Dr. if I were in her shoes. I hope she is okay.  Your flowers sound nice. We dropped downed to 70 today and supposed to stay there till Sunday. I'm wearing a jacket to the dining room. The only flowers I have are a petunia basket John picked up for the balcony and my Valentine plant which I can't remember the name of, Kalenchoe, maybe. My villa neighbor's daughter bought her a  flowering bush which she planted in the middle of the pansy bed out front. Really looks nice. John has been caring for the knock-out roses that are planted on our side of the villa and they are in full bloom by the front entrance.  That's it for our flowers. I would love to get a wreath for our front door, but didn't find one when I was at the mall last Friday.

Bunny still doesn't like her food and so I've tried pputting some chicken broth on it. That seems to tempt her.

I called about tickets for our trip to France. Had two options on return. The first through Amsterdam at 5:00 in the morning and the other through Paris at 10:00. Naturally, I preferred the Paris one, but it was $400 more for each of us! So guess who is going to see the sunrise in Lyon! This is really an expensive trip, but I guess it will be my last international one.

I hope you and everyone else is well. Hi to all. Sharon

JeanneP

Sharon. When did you book ticket for France? I was set for U.k last year but not yet thinking of this summer.i think things will still be far from normal. Like you I think will be my last one and so want it to be good. See as much as possible.

Mine will surely be high when I go for my yearly exam next week....SHaron I would love to have some knock out roses...I don't have much luck in growing roses...have fun on your trip....one thing I miss...my husband and I used to travel a lot...until he got sick...go while you can...Mary hope there's been no more illness where you are...Jane. Glad you are able to go and shop or eat....your weather should start being nice...I guess?  Hi to any looking in...Have a great Mother's Day/weekend...stay safe

jane

Nice day here and in high 50s but windy again.  I did get a mile walk in to town and back with a stop at the coffee shop for a latte and cake ball.  Bad jane :coolsmiley:

I was up at 4:30 last night and saw red and blue lights through my upstairs window that faces the street.  An ambulance was across the street and a police car.  They brought a woman out on the gurney and took off with siren going as they hit downtown.  Two women live there with small children/grandchildren.

I put the flowers I bought yesterday in an aluminum wagon sort of thing Ray had bought a couple years ago.  They're out in the sunshine now after a good watering, and I can just pull the whole thing into the shop for overnight when they mention frost again.

On my way home from downtown, I saw a woman at the stop sign I knew from the Library board when I was on. We talked for quite a while. She's been on the school board of a rural district where her girls went for 26 yrs now and said the constant complaints about having kids wear masks, etc. is unbelievable.  She said they've had no problems in the schools there, so just hopes to get through this year without more fuss.  She said there was some kind of demonstration in front of the high school here, but I hadn't heard about that.  I'm glad I'm out of the schools!

Stay safe and all our Mothers have a wonderful weekend!

Jeanne, we just booked a couple weeks ago for Sept 25, a river cruise from Paris to Lyon to Provence. That's a favorite region of France for me. We booked the river cruise because it will be easier for me ad I can take my walker with a seat for the walking tours and rest while they are lecturing. If it is too long of a walking tour I can always stay on the ship. I'll take plenty of pain pills to help me get through it. It is a 10 day tour. I hope you can take your trip too. We booked in the fall to give things a time to settle.  Hope you are feeling better.

Jane, you are so good about walking. I wish you were my neighbor and we could walk some together since you understand joint pain. I agree with you about being glad to be out of the schools now. Although they say that the 12-16 yr old will be getting vaccinated by fall and things ought to be somewhat back to normal.

Darlene, you sound like you've been really active today. We traveled a great deal up to 2011, our big trip to South Africa. John has taken a couple trips since by himself-one to Israel and one to New Zealand. Neither one was I up to going, but I prodded him into the Israel trip because he was reluctant to go without me, and the NZ was some place he had always wanted to go and it was too energetic a trip for me, but I told him to go. This trip is more for me because it is less strenuous and because it is France, which is my love. (I taught French and went many times.) As to the knock out roses, they don't take much care, other than water and pruning and some fertilizer.

Today, the center had a Mother's Day brunch for the ladies here. I went with a lady across the street. It was very nice. At the end they brought around darling little boxes with petit-fours in it (small), so I took it down to a new villa neighbor and introduced myself and got acquainted. She was lovely and younger than a lot of the ladies around here. I'm looking forward to doing things with her.

Time for dinner. Got to go. Sharon

jane

And the rollercoaster weather continues.  Cold last night and I had to turn my heat back on.  Windy, too, and hopefully rain this afternoon.

Sharon....you'll understand when I say that I only walk when my joints allow.  Those who say "oh, get out and walk, it'll loosen up those joints," don't understand.  It's not "loosening up" that I need, it's reduction in shoulder, elbow, finger, knee and hip pains.  Today is a "sit in my fam room with my fireplace on and read day."

Take care, Babes!

Jane

maryz

Those "creakies" are no fun!  And Spring is a bad time for that.

We're getting back to what I guess is the "new normal".  Our community is pretty well contained, all have been vaccinated, visitation somewhat controlled. The residents have pretty much stopped wearing masks in the building.  Staff and visitors are still masked, though. Margaret says she is not seeing many masks when she's out.

Happy Mother's Day to all! We're all mothers to someone, one way or another.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Mary, I'm glad to see someone else say that about all of us being mothers whether we birthed children or not. Women are nurturers by nature and care for nieces & nephews, pupils, kids they mentor, employees or whatever.  So I second your HAPPY MOTHERS DAY wish to everyone. We are still supposed to wear our masks in the main hall, but a lot don't except for staff. Not required outside.

I just got back from the grocery & Walgreens. Had to exchange a damaged tube of serum at WG and pick up some bread & tea that I forgot to put on the list.  I'm also doing laundry. Ugh.

Came home to a beautiful bouquet of flowers that Brian sent. So nice.

The men came yesterday and found out what was causing our mess--the front shower was leaking into the wall and out into the closet and onto the rug. He got it repaired and they will replace drywall Monday and then paint or replace the baseboards that are all stained and then have housekeeping come over to clean the carpet that was soaked and stained. They have also had a fan in the closet to dry out everything.(The shower backs into the coat closet).

Jane, it's been chilly here for a couple days, back to 80 tomorrow then back down to the low 70's and 60's again. So, I understand creaky too.I sure hope the weather is good on our trip next fall.

Looking forward to talking to the kids tomorrow. Traecy posted a picture taken at Brian's commissioning of my mother, me, Traecy & Brian & her mom. Probably the only pic with all of us in it. Wow did we look young!(That was in 1991) B & T also got engaged that weekend.

Hi to everyone! Have a great day! Sharon

Marilyn

Hello everyone. Yes I have been busy sorting and tossing. I'm on the second dumpster. I just wish people would stop adding their garbage and going through the dumpster making a big mess that I or  the girls have to clean up daily. We stack everything neatly at one end and in the morning the bags are torn open and trash strewn all over the dumpster. The gal who cleans my house and her partner are helping me. We got all the attic still sorting through that.

Today I gave away all the reel to reel tapes two tape players, turntable, CD's and records to a Riley family friends son in law who has a musc studio and the grandson for his dorm room. They got a whole lot of stuff., stll a lot here though.

Sorry Jeanne and Darlene I can't read your posts perhaps if you used BOLD I might possibly be able to read them.

jane

Finally the rain found us yesterday and it was very welcomed.

I made motel reservations for me for Mon. And Tuesday in Iowa City.  I have an eye appt at the Univ. On Tuesday.  They no longer have the valet parking, and I'm not about to use their huge ramp, so will take motel shuttle to and from Eye center.  I decided not to try to drive the interstate with my eyes dialated.

My furnace/ boiler is acting up, so I'll go by heating guys and drop off a house key, in case they can get to it Mon or Tues.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

maryz

Good plan, jane. John was always out of commission for several hours after he had his eyes dilated, but I seem to recover quickly from that.

Sharon, sorry about your HVAC. Aren't you glad you've got somebody else to tend to getting it fixed!

Hang in there, Marilyn, you'll be there soon.

Heard from all the girls and some of the grands yesterday. Plus Margaret and I Skyped with Alden for a while. He's almost walking, and so cute (but then I'm prejudiced).

Happy Monday, Buddies.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Jane, you're wise to take the shuttle. Whenever John is going to be dialated, I drive him. Hope your Furnace guys come while you're gone.

Mary, yes, I'm glad the center takes care of repairs, but they aren't Johnny on the spot about it. I guess we are just too big a facility and not enough workers. I'm sure the baby is darling. I can't wait till Monica & Thomas's little girl is born in June.

Marilyn, you're making progress. Although I'm sure it seems slow to you. I didn't think we'd ever get done. Good you could find a home for the music stuff.

For those of you not on FB or who missed it, I posted a picture of Braeden, the grandson who graduates and will be commissioned next Sat. I found out that he is graduating cum laude! His commissioning will be streamed, so we will be able to see it.  Brian will be giving Braeden the oath and pinning on his bars--such a special thing for both of them.

I talked to Lori and Brian yesterday and Melanie is to call today because she was returning home from Indianapolis yesterday.

John and I took Bunny on a long walkie yesterday afternoon and this time, I bit the bullet and went down the long hill to the 2nd lake with J & B. I've been afraid to tackle it before. It was really tiring coming back up. I had to rest a couple times, but I made it. The only problem is that today, I'm really hurting. I was proud of myself doing it. Of course I used my walker. Trying to get in shape for France.

All that's happening here. Have a safe trip, Jane. Hi to all. Sharon

Eyes are 20/20 with my glasses and pressures good, etc.  It was a long day,and I'm glad I didn't try to drive home.  Tomorrow I'll stop at Trader Joe's, down the street from me, make a stop in CR and probably have lunch there, and then go on home.

The furnace guy came on Monday before I left and replaced a broken whatever that had shut down the boiler.

Stay safe,

Jane

Back home and glad to be here.  There's a lot of road construction at a "new and will be improved" intersection of two interstates at Iowa City.  Trader Joe's was fun, but I didn't buy anything exciting.

Tomorrow I have an appt in Dubuque and need to see if a fav restaurant there is open at noon yet.  They really reduced hours during covid. NOPE...only open  Thurs.- Sat. From 4:00 to 9:00.  Rats!

Stay safe,

Jane

SharonE

Hi Gals! I use the #3 font + bold and Marilyn seems to be able to read it. Marilyn, this Sat marks a year from our move. Doesn't seem that long. Hope you're still making progress and that the dumpster divers have stopped messing everything up.

Jane, glad your eye exam was good. Sorry your favorite restaurant wasn't open.  We had 50 degree weather yesterday + rain. It was miserable.

I got my new cell phone last Friday night and have got it activated and all the data from my old one switched to my new one. So proud of myself! Really like this phone. It is a Samsung Galaxy 21 if that means anything to anyone, an android, as was my other one.

I started the process toward the brain procedure yesterday with an hour+ phone conversation on history and meds. Next Monday, we do a video online to show me doing various things so they can evaluate my tremor. Then I think the next thing is an in-person evaluation and then a CT scan. If they still think I'm a candidate after that, they we will schedule the procedure, but she thinks it will be August or so. I want to get it done before the trip.

I extended my lunch walk with Bunny some today. Still not any great distance, but more than I was doing. I've got a step counter app on my phone that will help me keep track of what I'm doing.

They put the drywall in the closet Tuesday, but need to come back to sand it and paint it and the base boards and clean the carpets. My cleaning girl came yesterday, for which I'm very happy.

Hi to all, Sharon

maryz

I use the #4 font and "bold".

Sharon, I must have missed reading about your procedure. What sort of thing is it? I hope it all works out for you. They're doing such amazing things nowadays. And your trip sounds wonderful. I wish I could go with you. I've loved the river trips.

jane, glad your eye appointment went well, and the trip worked well.

Exciting day today - Margaret and Jean came and we went OUT, to a real restaurant (Mexican) for lunch. Granted we ate outside on the patio, but it was still eating out. And SOOOO good! Then the girls came back here and hung lots more stuff on the walls. I haven't run out of things to hang, but am slowly running out of wall space.

Hi to Darlene, Marilyn, Jeanne, alpiner, and all others looking in.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Cottoncandy

Ok gals...where is the bold?

maryz

It's the "B" at the far left end of the line of options.  Your large print, though, is quite legible, Darlene - at least for me.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Mary, how fun to eat out!! And to get more pictures hung too. Tomorrow is the 1 yr anniversary of our move here. So glad everything is settled in.  As to the procedure, it is a focused ultra sound done while I'm in an MRI. I will have a halo like thing attached to my skull that they use to focus the ultra sound with. The 2 down sides are that I have to have my head shaved (!) and lay on the MRI for 3-4 hrs. I will be awake throughout the procedure and they will pull me out of the MRI periodically to have me do things to see if the tremors are being stopped. It sounds scary, but I just have had it with these tremors. I know there are lots of worse things, but it really affects my quality of life.

Jane, hope you are home now and that your weather is decent.

Darlene, hope all is well with you and not too hot.

I haven't done too much today other than walk the dog and play on the computer.

Tomorrow is Braeden's commissioning. I'm really looking forward to seeing it online.
Have a nice weekend, everyone. Sharon

Marilyn

I had the dumpster picked up today. Every morning there were more  bbig black garbage bags added. I am not getting another dumpster.

Keith  sons are due in anytime now from Washington, to visit their dad for the last time before we move and to get some photos and things I have set aside to ask them about. There are two closets they need to  clean out as well. They will only be in town over night. It will probably be the last time they see their father  while he knows who they are. I doubt they will  go to California to visit us. We should be moved by July 1

Cottoncandy

Good morning...I highlited the B to the left...didn't change anything...oh well not much to say anyway...hope everyone has a great weekend....

jane

Darlene....be sure to click on the B and then your size number --  3 or 4 and then type between the codes.  It'll look like this IN THE CODING BOX....

[ b][ size=3] TYPE HERE [ /size][/ b]   Don't use the spaces I put in so you could see the coding.

It rained early this morning and is overcast and dreary and in the high 50s.  I'm in for the day and doing laundry.

Last night the restaurant we went to was packed and short of staff.  That seems to be a problem everywhere here...banks an restaurants.  The Gov has removed the extra unemployment to try and get people back to jobs.  I think the restaurants are going to have to up the pay to get people to come back.

jane
