Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Bubble, I worded that wrong, a not uncommon practice of mine. I was trying to say that an oxygenated river would have fish and other water-based life if it were moving. Thus I wondered what type of fish were there.

Shirley, I never heard of cracking rocks together to call the frogs. The frogs we have here are small and only one toad, a western one.

JaneS

Loved ALL the pictures!  The kids look like they're having a ball!!

BUBBLE, I sent you some pictures.  I guess you didn't get them.  Shall I try again?

Please do, Jane. I never got them :(

Thanks BUBBLE!

The tree in the one pic is dogwood and it's mate is in the other corner of the yard.  She does do a nice job, doesn't she.  There are 3 tomato plants and one pepper plant which are still too small to see.  My "tired" was a "happy tired"!

Let me add ditto to the previous comments, Jane, and I love your small porch owl!

Here we woke up this morning to the greening, so I guess spring has arrived!

JaneS

The owl is part of my friend, Mavis's collection.  When she passed away in Dec. her son was kind enough to let my other neighbor and I have some things to remember her.  I actually have two owls.  The other one is inside but will be moving out soon.  As I pass it every morning I always say, "Good Morning Mavis.  I really miss you!"  And I know she hears!

Shirley

Great job, Christy & Mom!  Oh, how I envy you those dogwood trees. I plant all kinds of trees but dogwood has never survived. "Down the street" is the ONLY dogwood I've ever seen in Wichita. The Kansas City area is full of it. Thanks for posting, both you & Bubble.

MaryPage

Lovely to see the younger generations pick up on making the earth bloom. That's a very attractive neighborhood, Jane.  I wondered if the owl were meant to be useful, or decorative.

Today Chip & I went to the most fantastic nursery in this county and I bought 9 more geraniums and 1 verbena.  I chose 3 different shades of pink geraniums, while the verbena is the richest deep purple I have ever seen.  I divided that into 4 parts and planted those in with the already planted salmon-colored geraniums in the 4 largest blue pots on the kitchen balcony.  Tomorrow, I will plant the 9 new geraniums on the bayside balcony off of the living room and my bedroom.

I also bought a large Great Horned Owl.  I swear!  It's name is Ezra Hoot, the Ezra being my contribution and the Hoot being Chip's.  The purpose is to have a security guard to warn off the myriad birds who come down to my railing from the apartment above, where they feed them rather lavishly.  They have been using my railing for their powder room; I assume so as not to soil their dining room upstairs.  We are hoping Ez will cure that messy problem.  It is against the rules here in Chesapeake Harbour to feed the birds from these balconies for just that reason, but I will not complain to the condominium board.  I may have hopes that someone else will notice and let slip something, but that neighbor has been here the entire 18 years I have, and she is suffering from serious kidney disease now. I expect her husband thought to distract her from her pitiful state.  Good on him.

My new employee is 100% plastic, but he looks like the real thing from just a little way off, and his head swivels around.

The beautiful sunset last night.
Nature doesn't pay attention to wars or rockets exploding around.

A lovely photo Bubble and a sign that this will pass; life does go on even with the political machinings of men. Stay safe!

Shirley

Beautiful, Bubble. I remember right after 9/11 when we were all so shocked at the disaster, I took photos of the sky, same sky all over the world but each of us sees it a tad different. Thanks for reminding us today. "Peace be with you".............and be safe!

Tomereader1

I have been worrying about you, Bubble. Are you in a safe area?

I would have thought since Eid began at sundown yesterday, there would be a slowing of all this violence. Guess nothing stands in the way of revolution.

MaryPage

Be safe, Dear Bubble.  What a terrifying world we live in.  Nowadays, I think there is no spot on this planet that can be truly labeled a safe place.

Why must humans feel the right on destroying - damaging our beautiful planet, our wildlife - nature - our trees - human beings - wars...we are only here for a short while, so why do some humans feel they have the right to destroy what is only lent to us...our world, all should learn to live in PEACE - HARMONY - SERENITY - TRANQUILITY...

I am staying at home, thankful that this town -midway in Israel- is apparently out of range for the rockets. I hope we can soon find a compromise for both sides and for a long-long period. We only experienced one night of blaring sirens...

Unfortuntely, organized religion has caused more wars, destruction and death than any other cause.

Lovely pictures, Shirley. And there is a Bachelor's Button, a childhood favorite because my patch attracted the Goldfinches.

Lovely looking Shirley! We cannot even plant outside until Memorial Day!

Irises, particularly bearded ones and daisies, grow wild, along with morning glories, but it only greened up recently. However, we're now at nineteen daily hours of daylight.

Shirley

Thank you, Bubble, as always, you make the photos look better than the ones I send you. That wet iris was from real rain, I didn't spray it to get that look. MarsGal, I forgot they are called Bachelor Buttons.... we always called them "cornflowers". My mother called them by their real names, all flowers, but whatever locals called anything as we moved around, I would get into the habit. Ever since we've lived in this house (since 1988) my flower beds have been loaded with the blue flowers, they pop up anywhere & I would water them & pull straight up & replant. The driveway cracks & yard would be full so I was moving them all the time. This year this is the only one that came up so I re-planted in the pot to be safe.

Jane, my kids did the putting together & dumping the dirt in, so only effort on my part was putting the seeds & 5 tomato plants in. The reason for 5 was 2 Big Boys, 2 Early Girls & the big one in the middle, a Beef Steak. Lots of blooms but still nary a little green tomato. :'(

Patricia, I forgot to send the photos of the various colored columbine that also just grows where it wants. Only thing I can think of is came from a package of "mixed" wildflower seeds I planted years ago. They spread their own seeds & take care of themselves. I moved a lot of the tiger lilies down to the river bank but the trees have grown so big they don't get much chance to bloom. Old deserted farms always have them as well as wild roses & iris that takes care of itself when the farmers moved on. My parents neighbor's son spends his summers visiting all over the US to photo roses around those deserted farms. Had some gorgeous photos & teacher that he is, had each researched & named.

Thank you all for the comments. I don't have a green thumb but certainly appreciate what grows around me. I had red poppies at the house we built, got the start from my mother. She called them "Annie's poppies" because they came from her oldest sister's farm. The house we lived in until I was 6 had a big rose bush that would be covered in yellow roses every year. That also came from her sister so had special meaning, but she never got a start of it.

Wishing you all a happy day filled with beauty! Shirley

Shirley, there are dozens of summer flowers and even hedge plants around rivers hundreds of miles from any settled habitation.

The prevailing thought is that they're from birds eliminating. 🐦  A type of natural composting?

Shirley

Believe you are right, Patricia, because we have a variety of trees down along the river and some I have never seen around here. That is a gorgeous view, so peaceful (over in the "Show Me a Picture)... I looked & figured I talk when I got here. ;D  Had to get a birthday card ready for Amelia (remember that little troll doll, she will be 7 the 30th of May). A little money so she can pick out something she doesn't have (if there is such a thing! Organizing, trying to clean the kitchen cabinets off enough to see the color of them. Have not had a chance to try out the new juicer because it has to be washed first. Always something. ;D

Wonderful photos Everyone!
