Johann Mc...Belated Birthday Wishes for yesterday...if you see this message...
" There is no present like the time "

MarsGal

The porch work is done as far as it can go until the fall. Now all that is left to do are the doors and painting the deck. I took a close look yesterday and found that there are still a few gaps that critters can squeeze through. One is under the side porch steps. Unfortunately, when the guys redid the steps they made it harder for me to get under it to stuff something in the few inches they left open. The other two spaces will be easy to plug. I noticed that they left the old wood lattice in place just covering it with the new PVC lattice. Still, I hope it will deter any groundhogs from taking up residence again, if not the mice.

We have had an air quality alert in place for two days now. Last night, I found out why -- the western wildfire smoke. Today we are supposed to be getting rain. The backyard got mowed on Sunday; the front yard, now that the guys are gone, will have to wait until another day. Meanwhile, I will be looking into getting mulch to spread on the flower bed around the porch and replanting some of my iris which had to get dug up. They will need replanted soon. One of the guys thought the front would look great if I planted some low bushes along the porch. Yes, it would, but with the gas and water pipes at the front, I'd have to leave a gap. That would deter from the look, I think. Not to mention that the gas company was planning on replacing indoor meter with outdoor ones, so whatever I plant there would get dug up again.

I am not surprised that there isn't much activity here just now. It seems mid-summer gets slow every year, this year seems a bit worse than most. SeniorLearn is suffering the same fate. No one, including me, has posted for days.

I hope everyone is well. Looks like the COVID numbers are up in all states due to the Delta strain and, perhaps, the loosening of restrictions.

Amy

MarsGal..is there room for you to throw moth balls in ? Maybe the smell of them will deter your critters trying to reside with you..

I have one of those pod coffee makers, as well, and I really like it. I keep it clean, using the magic white vinegar, because it makes the coffee taste better to do so.  I buy my pods by the box of 72, I think it is.  I order the decaf, and there are 4 different types of that in the box.  It's called the DECAF Variety Pack and contains Donut Shop Blend, Morning Blend, 100% Colombian and French Roast.  It works out to thirty some cents per mug of coffee!

I chose the sea glass color for the machine, and I like it a lot.  It is a huge boon to be able to make coffee so speedily and simply, without having a pot of it going stale.  I also have pods for cocoa and tea.  I have not peresonally used the tea pods, being a slow one to make a big change, but my son uses and likes them.

Good morning 💐
Another hot day in the 90's with nasty smoke filled skies.

RAMMEL, I, too have a Keurig.  I have had many over the years and love them.  My preferred coffee is Peet's as well.  I order or buy it through Costco, but will check out Staples to see if I can save a bit more. My husband does not drink coffee, so the single cup maker is perfect to ensure a fresh and delicious cup every time.

MARSGAL, sounds like your porch work has come together nicely.  I hope you can get the gaps filled with something to keep any critters out.  Could you possibly use some spay foam in the gaps?

We are off to our dermatologist this morning.  Seems we got way behind with Covid and now we have appointments all the time.

Have a good day.

There hasn't really been a change here since March 2020 other than fewer wearing masks and the state no longer publishing the counts of new cases and deaths. The stores still require masks, but it's not always enforced, and many businesses never reopened.

Getting a medical appointment for non-emergencies or a haircut isn't easy to do. We see an uptick in new cases due to the Delta variant, and new cases and closures hit some industries hard such as cruises and fishing.

For example, this building still has all the meeting rooms locked, administrative offices closed, and events closed. Any small get-togethers or talks are held outdoors in front of the building. The only change I see is people are becoming laxer.

Rick -  I agree, that Peet's coffee is the best!   We have one of their shops here in town, and they have all sorts of blends that we can buy by the bag or box.  I don't think I've  ever tried Major Dickason's blend, but will buy some the next time I'm there.    We also have a Starbuck's, within walking distance of our house, so I tend to go there for the occasional Summertime Frappachino - very refreshing and satisfying.

I like coffee in any form, prepared in any style of coffee maker, and I also like coffee ice cream.  We've never had a Keurig, and I think we're the only ones who haven't?  Still using good old reliable Mr. Coffee.

Mary Page -  If I can find a Keurig in the Sea Glass color, I just might buy one - so I can enjoy looking at it on my counter!  My favorite color in recent years is sea glass.  I'm always drawn to it when picking out a blouse or sweater, or painting a wall in the bathroom or bedroom.

Jenny -  Good to see you here this  morning!  We are also suffering the thick smoky skies.  :(  Forest fires burning North, South, East and West of us, so no matter the direction of the wind, we will get smoke.  Fires in Oregon, Northern Cal near Paradise again, plus Lake Tahoe, and very close to Yosemite.  The one to the south of us is near Monterey, outside of Big Sur.  Now something we have to deal with every single year.

We're on our way to a couple of office supply stores, to look for a comfortable desk/computer  chair for me.  My old one is badly broken down and only usable with three strategically placed pillows and a seat cushion.  Plus the mechanism that raises it up and down is no longer working.  Hard to find one that fits me right, but will keep looking until I do!

MarsGal

Thanks for the suggestions Amy and Jenny. I called my pest control to set an appointment to take care of it. She was here two weeks ago and sprayed around some of the spots I thought they might find a spot, but those weren't them. After she sprays again, I will try to use some caulk or sealer where I see gaps in the siding, at least where I can reach. Usually they just try to hang their nests up where the underside of the porch roof meets the house. I can usually knock them down with a long pole when it gets dark or cold. These seem to be nesting earlier than usual and are looking for nooks and crannies to hide in. In an old house, there are a lot of those.

MaryPage

Marilyne, I bought my Keurig from their official website.  They call the color I bought "Oasis," but I call it Seaglass,  I own a couple of small pieces of the real thing, and my coffee maker is exactly that color.

I see Peet coffees for sale in Amazon, but have never bought any.  I will try them next time I order.  I found Amazon the absolutely cheapest place to buy coffee pods.  A word to the wise: I always choose their FREE shipping, but some days it comes within one (1!) day ANYway!  And no, I do not belong to Amazon Prime.  I am not much on joining things.

Jenny, I know what you mean about the doctors.  I have been playing catch up, too.  During the Pandemic, I only saw the absolutely necessary ones: heart and personal.  As far as "The Pandemic" is concerned, I do not feel it is behind us yet; not by a long shot.  But I am all vaccinated and still not going out to places where lots of people are.  So my Personal pandemic is behind me until such time as a mutation that my Moderna vaccine will not control comes roaring in and tries to shove homo sapiens off the planet.

My cleaning ladies are coming in a little while!  Tiddely, tiddely, tra la la!  That's me dancing; you may join in the chorus ____

Amy, I loved Patti Page and Theresa Brewer. I remember riding in the car, sitting on my mother's lap at a very young age, and listening to Brewer's Rubber baby buggy bumpers playing on the car radio. I also loved Patti Page's Try to remember.

MaryPage

Oh,Amy!  That was from back when the music was all pretty or lovely or beautiful.  And so were the girls.  The young girls.  We wore pretty frocks.  ALL THE TIME!  We had pretty hair.  I am so sick of the lack of pretty hair to look at on TV.  We wear mostly dark, somber, beaten down looking clothing or stuff that would have had us locked up for nakedness.  What happened to pretty?  What happened to glamour?  What happened to hair styles that were chosen for the particular facial size and shape and the personality of the particular young woman?  No matter the age, there seems to be only one available way to wear your hair these days.  I am not going to describe it and possibly hurt anyone's feelings, but I'll tell you a huge truth: last week I was reading our local paper, and I came upon an article about the winning local High School girl's lacrosse team.  Their individual team pictures took up most of one page.  I glanced at it (I do not follow sports very closely) and did a double take.  I swear to you, I honestly thought at first that it was all the same girl!

Where are the pretty frocks of yesterday?  Where are the individual hair styles?

I, too, like Peets coffees.  My favorite Peets is Guatamala San Marcos!  It is a medium roast coffee, but to me it is very Bold!  I have to order that from either Amazon or Bed, Bath & Beyond (they have coffee pod sales quite often).  I have a Keurig, but other than Peets, I usually don't like the taste of the finished product.  Either bitter or weak as dishwater.  My regular coffeemaker gets my Folger's Classic Roast, which is just like I like it.  Have done Community Coffee also, which is pretty good in all its permutations.

I joined a FaceBook Group recently about British Mysteries on TV.  It is a dandy group, with lots of discussion.  Anyway, I made the comment that on these British Mystery programs, they mostly drink Tea, but when they do coffee, it is always instant.  They have an electric kettle, and you can see them spooning instant coffee in the cups and pouring water over it.  (Nowadays, in the more recent series they use a French Press).  But, this engendered a lively, robust conversation about coffees, coffee makers, etc. and the discussion went on for pages. There are folks from the U.K. and elsewhere, including U.S., Canada "and all the ships at sea" LOL.  I so love that group, and when we got back to the discussion about U.K. Mystery TV Series, they mentioned some series I'd not heard of, and now I'm going to need to enroll in BritBox to see some of them!  Discussing coffee vs. tea is almost like introducing a political discussion, but it has all been very friendly!

Sorry about the small print on the above.  I specifically clicked a 5, but it seems to smallify whatever number I click on.  Also, I pick a color, and it comes out in black regardless.

Didn't work either time.  Oh, well, I did get the font type changed.

I type what I want to say.... then do the ctrl & c (copy), delete the text & select font name, font size, font color. The curser is blinking so I paste (ctrl & v) the text back in & post! Works for me!

RAMMEL

Click in the box you type in
Click on the size icon above the box
It should add two items enclosed in brackets. With the curser between the two items , type something. then post it.

Hello Everyone! I'm one of the longest members of SN and Seniors and Friends, but it's been so long since I've posted that I feel like a stranger! The past few months have been a series of ups and downs. I  have kept up with all your messages but somehow can't bring myself to respond!

I've been in the hospital a few times, mostly because of low blood sodium. The lung problems (NTM and bronchiectasis) keep me fatigued and feeling ill a lot, but I keep hanging in there waiting for the good days, which do happen!  :)

Monday was a great day. My newest great-grandson, 8 lb. 2 oz., was born. He's Lauri's first grandson and she texted me through the day with a play-by-play! She was present during his birth.

Jackie - First I want to tell you how happy I am that you finally have a nice living arrangement. You've waited a long time for this.

Jenny - I know what a sad time it's been for you and your family, but knowing Michele is no longer suffering must bring some comfort. It must be especially hard for the children.

MaryPage - I'm enjoying seeing your posts again! I've often wondered how you are. One of these days I'll dig out the photo I have from our first meeting at the Williamsport Bash with the pink pigtails you were wearing.  :)

Rammel - Also glad to see you joining in.

We have a Keurig coffee maker and love it. It's a smaller one as we only drink a couple of cups a day. I will have to try Peet's.

See you tomorrow ("If God's willing and the creek don't rise") Someone on Senior Net used to say that!

So many things I'd like to comment on. You've had some interesting conversations. Hopefully I'll be joining in more.

MaryPage

Hey, BEVERLY!  Great to see you!  And thanks for remembering me.

Tomereader: Hit the reply button.  Then DO NOT GO into the white writing space.  Instead, go right to the big B up on top of your pictured keyboard.  Click once, and only once, on that B.  Then click once, and only once, on that blue A with the red bar on its toe.  4 is my favorite size, but if you like the 5, go for it.  Just one click.  Then go to the color map, which is the very next icon in line.  Pick your color, one click, and NOW go down and start typing.

MaryPage

Hey, Tomereader!  Mebbe you're not typing between your orders and the cancellation of those orders with the / in front of them.  If you are moving the start of your writing down to the end, you are self-cancelling your own orders.  Mebbe?

patricia19

I use a French press, black and strong with no crème or sugar. I probably drank 8 to 12 daily cups.

I press the b for bold, the first a for Arial Black, and the second A for size 4. Then I type between the two sets of code.

" There is no present like the time "

Beverly -  So nice to see you dropping in to say hello!   Sorry to see that you're having serious health issues, and had to spend some hospital time.   I remember when you explained it to us, and told about the compression vest that you have to wear.  I hope that it's still helping you?   Sounds like your new gr-grandson is good sized, snd doing well!  Wish we had a new baby in the family!   We have four great-grands, but they are all teenagers now.  We  still have two grandchildren in their 20's, but neither of them are married yet, so not likely I will see anymore great-grands in my lifetime.

Hello to everyone else who is looking in.  It will be hot and smokey again today, so I'll stay home and hope for a cool and damp ocean breeze, that will blow the smoke into oblivion!   I don't wish it to fall upon any of you in the East, but I guess the wind currents do carry it that far away!

MaryPage

Just back from a quickie excursion to Bru-Mar nursery.  Bru=Mar is what I would describe as a medium-size, well-kept family nursery only a 5 minute drive from here.  They always have a little farmers market kind of set up out front during Eastern Shore growing months.  Maryland's Eastern Shore (across the bay from us) feeds all of Maryland and exports considerable.  We love it all, but for the chicken farms.  We do not like the chicken farms.

Granddaughter Helaine, who lives on Crab Creek only a ten minute drive from here, has invited me to an all girl luncheon with my daughter Elizabeth (her mother) and my granddaughter Joanna (her sister) and great granddaughter Courtney (her daughter) on July 31st, and I accepted avidly.  At Bru-Mar, I found a jar of Shore jam called TRAFFIC JAM!  That will be my hostess gift, and also a conversation piece.  Should give us all some giggles.

And I am the richer for fresh corn (I mean, REALLY fresh corn), cantaloupe, radishes, cucumber, tomatoes, and yellow Freestone peaches.  They are almost oozing juice!  And a jar of peach salsa and a bag of homemade chips.  Woo hoo!

Fortunately for me, you don't know how to get to my place; so Chip & I will hog it out on our own.

It all sounds so, so good, MaryPage! When I was nine or ten, we were at my maternal grandparents' farm outside of Montrose, Colorado. In the afternoons, I would swing back and forth on the gate and feast. Swing to the left, there was a bing cherry tree and swing to the right, and there was a peach tree! YUM!

The 31st is my birthday and you didn't invite me? What's a few thousand miles between friends...?

MaryPage

Oh, Sweetie!  I am not the hostess, but the guest bearing a jar of Traffic Jam.  I have already found a great little pink chiffon drawstring bag to enclose my gift.  It's been in my large plastic box full of gift bags for so long that I cannot remember what was given me in it.  Shoot, come to think on it, I would not know if that were yesterday, but I know it's been a long time.  Gift bags are for regifting, say I.  And Patricia, you would be invited if I were in charge of the guest list here.  Happy Birthday when your day comes, anyway.  I shall think of you.  Is it your 31st on the 31st, or have you already crossed that bridge?
