Amy - How is your friend's granddaughter doing with the expected twins? Scary if one of them is in distress.

MarsGal

Morning all. I hope everyone is doing well.

First thing this morning I discovered that StreamTime Live has a new web cam up and running. No, it isn't Marine City, that is still down. This one is canal/lock at Keokuk, Iowa, on the Mississippi River. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ5RjMKMSUY

That darn ground hog is back and dug under my new porch skirting already. It hasn't even been a week. I had asked that when they put the new skirting on it be dug down at least 6 to 8 inches and be made of something that the darn thing wouldn't damage. They only planted the bottom end down three inches. I don't think the contractor told his people that. I am irritated. Well, a call to the pest control guy is in order. I have not seen the thing since earlier this year. Sneaky little bugger. I never knew groundhogs to be so secretive.

Meanwhile, the heat and humidity are getting to me, I think. My shoulders and upper back have been in pain for the last five or six days. So between it and the weather, I haven't been out in the yard.

The cats must be affected by the weather too. They have not been particularly hungry lately, and this morning, Oscar and Lucy declined to follow me to the kitchen for their breakfast. Only Shan eat most of his. The rest of the food is back in the fridge for when Oscar and Lucy want theirs.

patricia19

Good morning; we are still cloudy and rainy, but tomorrow is to be warmer, and next week back into the eighties. That's very unusual for August!

Marilyne, you might be interested to know that the parrot has his own tape recorder. He operates it by stepping on it, and he records whatever he says. It's his favorite toy. I doubt if he's the boss in his house, it's that the cats learn quickly that he's no pushover and he's been around fostered cats longer than they've been around him.

Kodiak and Southeast Alaska had a shallow 8.2 earthquake, and a tsunami warning was given for the coast and for Hawaii. A tsunami was generated but was later canceled after an evacuation. "As the alerts changed from warnings to advisories, the Kodiak Police Department said in a message, "Kodiak has been downgraded to Tsunami Advisory status however we are not all clear."

Kodiak is near the northwestern tip of Kodiak Island, which is the largest island in Alaska and is the second-largest island in the US.

A tsunami watch had been issued for Hawaii but was later canceled. "Based on all available data there is no tsunami threat," the National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said."

Bev that is concerning for Brynn, and I hope all goes well. Would you mind keeping us posted?

MarsGal, I would be raising cane about the people who didn't build or fix your porch and expect them to repair it. Is there a Better Business Bureau or at least a place to give reviews? They should at least pay for the pest removal service!

I did bookmark the Iowa cam, thank you.

Amy

Bev, talked with my friend and so far so good. They hope she can go till Aug 6th and then have the babies. Both boys seems to be holding their own now. A specialist has been called in for the delivery. Everyone is holding their breath as you know!

My sister had twins, no one knew, not even the Dr till she delivered. Seems that one baby was hiding behind the other when the ultra sound was taken. Both boys are over 6' tall now.

Hey, Patricia!  I thought Alaska was a few hours behind us time wise, but if it is hot for August there, I guess you are ahead, and not behind!

Cloudyish day here on the Bay.  Not seriously cloudy, as in fog, but pretty smoggish over bay waters.  I can see a charcoal blue smudge for Kent Island on the Eastern Shore over to the, guess what?  To the East!  And another, thinner and differently shaped smudge to the North that is the Bay Bridge.

Otherwise, all is well, and I am reduced to teasing Patricia to get my jollies.

patricia19

Reduced? Reduced!? It's the high point of your day, I'll bet...  😁

MaryPage

Hmmm.  You might be right.

Nope.  The highpoint of my day has been, so far, daughter Becky calling to tell me she bought a round trip plane ticket for the 2nd week in December.  Woo hoo!  We'll be able to celebrate her birthday with her!  She will be 69.

Now THAT is a downer.  The age factor.  Mebbe you win the prize after all, Patricia!

patricia19

I don't know MaryPage, I'll be seventy on Saturday. And saying I'm middle age won't cut it as it did at 69! Happy birthday to Becky!  ㊗️  :hb3:

Beverly

Happy 54th Anniversary Jenny and Bob!

Hope you had a great day yesterday!

Beverly

Did I scare everyone away?  ;)

Granddaughter, Brynn, is doing well and holding on. The first goal is to make it through the week-end. Lauri drove over last night. They were letting her sleep in Brynn's room. It's a five hour drive one way for Lauri. Those girls have been keeping her busy. She works full time and new Mom, Shea, is an hour and a half drive for her. She's been waiting years for a grandchild and now they're all coming at once!!

Amy - I'm glad your friend's g-daughter is still doing okay. They plan on doing a C-section on Brynn because of the babies positioning. The boy is already in place to deliver and he is frank breech.

I haven't seen a post from Florida Jean in awhile. Has anyone heard from her?

Have a good evening everyone.

patricia19

Bev, it used to take me all day to get through S&F, and now it takes less than an hour. I also blame it on the weather conditions. Jean checked in today but last posted in late June.

I'll be keeping Brynn in my thoughts these next few days and hoping for the best.

Marilyne

Hi Beverly -  I saw your post yesterday about the twins, and was hoping that everything would be okay. I would have responded, but we have a houseful of company this weekend,  so I haven't been able to post anything today.  Our daughter Shelley, and her youngest daughter are here - along with  Shelley's oldest daughter and her family.  They live up by Lake Tahoe, so we rarely ever have a chance to see them.  In fact, we haven't seen them since the pandemic started!  They will be here through tomorrow, and leaving on Sunday Morning.    Good that Brynn will be having a c-section.  That's the safest way to go when there is a problem.

MaryPage

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PATRICIA!

WOO HOO, THE BIG SEVEN OH!

WISHING YOU A SPLENDID DAY

FILLED WITH LOVE & FESTIVITY!

Thank you, MaryPage! Sometimes I wonder how I made it this far!

Happy 70th Birthday Patricia!

Welcome to the world of the elderly!     Hope you have a wonderful day, and that this decade will bring you good health and much happiness!

CallieOK

Good Morning. Looks as if I have some catching-up to do:

:hb2: Congratulations on 54 years of happiness, Jenny and Bob!

Beverly, prayers for Brynn and the twins.

 :happybday:Patricia.

This has been a "one thing after another" week!
Dealing with my insurance company re: my part of an HOA assessment,
 Miss Emily coming for dinner,
getting up earlier than usual for vampire visit prior to annual physical next week,
 having an amplified doorbell installed,
consultation on what to do about drip from patio lattice in front of door, and
the never-ending Domestic Duties and errands.

No wonder I went to bed two hours earlier than usual last night!

Need to do some desk work today (like pay bills  ::) ) but that can be done "leisurely"

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere and Enjoyable Day

MarsGal

Gosh, two parties to attend:

Happy 70th Birthday Patricia!

Happy 54th Wedding Anniversary Jenny and Bob!

Ice Cream, chocolate cake and champagne all around.

Shirley

Okay, Patricia... had to check in here to find your age! You almost don't belong with the rest of us SENIORS!  Hope it has been a great day so far and spectacular rest of the day... make it year!

Callie, I just checked radar & see something firing up between us, doesn't seem to be moving either direction very fast but sure 'tis growing!

MarsGal, I've been trying to keep my mind off the fact I ate the last ice cream bar & it "feels like 106" (only 99 degrees). And I am seriously thinking about getting in my car & going to the store for ice cream... a freezer full!  Trouble is I don't have space in my freezer... woe is me.

I got outside chores done early, went to gas up the car & on to Sam's Club where I wandered around waiting for the fresh chickens to come out of the rotisserie but the young men in charge kept putting it off in hopes we/I would take the old ones. I don't want them after sitting out for 3+ hours!  Spent over $100 & came home without that chicken! I did get a new Brita pitcher, needed filters & this came with 2- 6 mo filters. Time to get the Bounty & TP, sure adds up.

Shirley,  6:00 news weather radar showed the blue line of a "cold front" (or as they say, a "not so hot front") curving south of Wichita and coming into Oklahoma.  It also showed "heavy thunderstorms" along the northern counties of Oklahoma that may or may not reach OKC about 4:00 a.m.

According to the same gurus, this has been the hottest day of the year.  Personally, I don't think we'd be as bothered by the heat if "they" didn't go on and on and....  about the Heat Index.  I was a counselor at the Tulsa YWCA camp in the summer of 1954.  I remember that the heat on some days was so intense that the lake water was too hot for the campers to swim except early in the morning.

That was also the summer I learned to gig frogs.  Counselors not on bedtime duty would row out on the lake after dark and we gigged enough frogs to have a frog-leg dinner after the campers went home.  My contribution was being able to hold the flashlight steady enough to blind the frog until someone else caught it and put it in the gunny sack.
Have never needed to use that talent since. ;D

Shirley

Callie, I remember that summer of 1954, working at the USAF base in a concrete block building with a concrete floor and NO AC.... had a big fan at the door to stir the air but is was sweltering. I don't think I could do that 118 degrees & back then we didn't talk about humidity!!!

Radar is showing the storm bopping around the south end of Wichita & right now moving north but the wind is coming out of the north, we could have some bumpers, so will make cats stay inside!

My father loved frog legs & he & buddies would gig.... and just once I saw the legs move in the skillet & that was enough for me, never ate them & never watched them cook again!  I could never eat lobster when I found out they were cooked LIVE!  Oh, yuck! How cruel! Doesn't bother most people but I've never been hungry enough to eat snails or worms, either.

Off to lala land, up early for church & breakfast with the kids. Growing up in central MO we always expected a tornado or serious storm during the 10 day state fair... which is the middle whole week of August. I think everyone had hoped things would be easier this year (Covid) but a slap in the face with the new version so catching. I'm wearing my mask & washing my hands, still carry Clorox wipes for the stores that don't have them at the door.

Beverly, it's good to see you posting again. Extra prayers the twins are okay as well as Mom & Dad... such a tense time for everyone.

Beverly

Happy Birthday Patricia!

Being collected for church in a few hours this morning, we are now back inside not singing outside in the front as they have been these past couple of months, and we are back at a 10.30am weekly service rather than our 4.pm fortnightly service, still seat distancing and wearing face masks, not too easy singing when your reading glasses keep steaming up wearing these masks...Enjoy your Sunday however it unfolds...

Seems someone else has caught up with me in age, the big 70...we are only here the once...

Our weekend company has all departed for home.  Older daughter and granddaughter, are driving inland to the Central Valley,  and our oldest granddaughter Ashley, and her husband and three children, driving North to Lake Tahoe.

They didn't all stay here with us, as we don't have the room - so half of the group stayed with our son and dil, across town.    It was a wonderful weekend, but exhausting!    Last night we had a big dinner for everyone at son's house.  Their two adult kids were there also, along with our youngest daughter, Sandy.  Only 15 of us altogether,  but seemed like twice that many.  Sorry that two of our other grandkids and their families weren't able to make it, but we're hoping for another gathering around the Holidays, when everyone can attend.

It sure is quiet around here today, and AJ and I are just sitting around watching the Olympics, and enjoying the solitude!

Hope you all had a nice weekend, and ready to face another her hot summer week ahead!  :)

Beverly -  I hope we hear from you soon, that everything is okay with the expectant twins?  It sounds like Lauri is busy, trying to keep up with her two daughters, and their new families!

Jenny -  I know what you mean, that it's a real letdown, when you have had a houseful of company, and all of a sudden they are gone.  I think it's the preparation and anticipation that goes on for so long before they all arrive . . . then suddenly they're all gone, and you're left feeling empty.  I hope you have a chance to visit again with Mark, Megan and Jonah, before the Summer is over. That will raise your spirits, before you have to face your upcoming shoulder surgery.  Do you have a scheduled date yet?

Callie - I agree with you about the Weather People, going on and on about the Heat Index, Global Warming, and Fire Danger.  If we weren't being reminded constantly that we should be VERY WORRIED . . .  we would probably take this Summer weather in stride, just as we used to back in the olden days.

Hello,  to Jackie, Shirley, shirleyn, Patrica, Rammel, MarsGal, Jean, and all others who post in this folder.
Mary Page!  - just realized its been a number of days since we've heard from you.  Please post and let us know that all is well!

Okay, Rick, I'll bite.........just where have you been???

Not quite so hot today but couldn't get my head together so a couple trips out to get a few errands taken care of. Supposed to be low 60s tonight & that's the kind of weather I love to have the slider to my bedroom open. Naturally I have the Baretta & Ruger near by if needed.  ;) Bad Shirley........

MaryPage

Hi back atcha, Rammel!

Thank you, Marilyne.  I'm here, and interested and caring, but just not very peppy.  Have a lot going on this week, but thinking mebbe I need to tone it down a little and think of going back to a lockdown again.  Chip thinks so, too.

I had a lovely Saturday.  Granddaughter Helaine invited me to a luncheon, saying her sister Joanna was going to bring their mother, my daughter Elizabeth, down from Montgomery County.  So I expected the 4 of us at lunch.  So did Elizabeth.  Surprise!  Helaine had gotten a lot of her branch of the family, the Elizabeth branch, to come and we had a blast.  Food was delicious, company divine, and the conversation full of laughs.  I do have a serious hearing problem, but that contributed to the laughter, so all was well.  I sent a picture to a few of you, but could not manage collecting the email addresses for all.  My bad, and my apologies.

Present were Helaine's Jack and Courtney, with Courtney's divine fiance.  Also Joanna's Brooke and Leah.  Goodnight and Sweet Dreams.

Vanilla-Jackie

Rammel...safe journey there and back..

Mary Page - We're heading for another total lockdown here in California, also.    Of course, AJ and I are always in a semi-lockdown state, regardless of plagues and Pandemics!     I mean, how much "out and about" socializing can a couple in their late 80's do?   ::)   For us, in the past couple of years, it's always with family.  No friends left within driving distance of us.    We will be going to a local restaurant with our son and dil, later this month to celebrate a couple of birthdays, and we're already planning on reserving an outside patio table for six . . . or more?  I'm hoping the new Covid crisis doesn't become worse, so we can enjoy that upcoming event.

Sounds like you had a lovely day with your daughters and granddaughters.   I thought we had a lot of girls in our family, which includes my daughter-in-laws three sisters,  and their girls,  but looks like you have many many more!     I love hearing girls names, so I enjoy the many lovely and unusual names in your family . . . and mine too.  Some names are old fashioned and plain, and others are new and different.
