What is it about Attitude these days? All this gathering at or in public buildings waving signs and using megaphones to stir up yelling and physical confrontation!!  Of course, if "the media" just reported the event without showing all the action, interviewing everyone who wants to be on camera - and showing it every hour on the hour... (don't get me started on the number of newscasts on every channel at all hours of the day and night  :tickedoff: )

Here's a web cam site to watch bears catching salmon at a Falls in Alaska. The number of bears is declining but Chat says the salmon run is just about over.  Some of the bears have been named and it's amazing how different the "personalities" are.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the hot and humid rocky coast of Maine.

The news is so bad that I also am watching
a lot of movies on tv.    Good thing that
I have a lot of stations to choose
from.

I peak in at the news and
shut it off before I start to
get very depressed.

Have a good day everyone...
and don't take any wooden nickels
(for what ever that means)  ..

Baby Watch

It's happening.......Granddaughter Brynn started labor and they are about to do a C-Section. Lauri is on her way but she was at work and still has nearly a 5 hour drive. Lots of excitement and anxiety for all of us. Babies are still 6 weeks early. Fortunately she was already in the hospital. She lives about 45 minutes from the hospital.

Thank goodness for cell phones and texting and children who keep me "in the loop".

Mary Page - I read your message in Bosom Buddies, this morning, and I agree wholeheartedly!  Those of us who have lived a long time, and seen so many changes, feel like we have some level of insight or knowledge, etc.  However, no one wants to listen to us, even if we had a platform to expound our views and solutions! ha ha  All we can do is watch and wait, while the world turns and rapidly changes.

Callie - your comment abut the media is so correct.  Television news, newspapers, news-talk, etc., do their best to "stir the pot", and get people all riled up, angry, and scared!  That's what news is all about in today's world . . . FEAR!

Sandy -   Come back and tell us what you're watching, in the way of movies or TV shows?   I need some suggestions, as I will be spending a lot of time at home again, thanks to the Delta Variant.  ::)

Jenny - Hope you return soon, and bring us up to date on how things are doing in your family.   How is your Dad doing?   Did he and Diane attend the  Memorial Service for Michele, that was to be held in AZ?   Also, I'm wondering about Matthew, and whether the time has come for him to take his DMV drivers exam?   I remember it was sometime in August?   That will be a big help to Dave, when he is a licensed driver.

BEVERLY -  I just saw your message, as I was about to post mine!  Let us know when Brynn has had the twins, and all about the weight and the names!

Beverly

#20675
I intended to get here long before this. I've been either on the phone, sending or receiving texts. This is definitely a family affair!

Beverly Grace is 5 lb. 1 oz. and James Christopher is 4 lb 5 oz. Both were born breathing on their own and crying. They're in NICU. Beverly has some breathing issues but they think she'll be okay in a few days. Very good considering they're six weeks early. I found it interesting that she's on a C-Pap machine. I've already received several pictures. We've all been concerned for Brynn. She has gone through so much between inability to get pregnant and then being sick through the whole pregnancy. I'm so happy she has twins and one of each because she doesn't plan on doing this again!! Lauri is Grandmother for the first time and now she has three born within a month!

Jenny - I know that two weeks seems an eternity when you are dealing with pain. This has been a difficult year for you. Hope you can keep busy and the time passes quickly.

Marilyne

Beverly - Congratulations on your new great-grandbabies!  I know you are pleased that there is a new  Beverly, in the family!  What an honor for you.  James Christopher, is a nice name as well.  I'll be looking forward to seeing  pictures, as soon as you are able to post some.  Also, I'll be thinking about Brynn, and hoping that she recovers quickly. ❤️

MaryPage

Oh, such lovely news!  With all the newscasts flooding us with what a world of hurt we have at present, it is such a blessing to have such heartwarming tidings of Great Joy!

Sounds good.  Hope Mother & Infants flourish and have long and happy lives.  Oh, and healthy.

Beverly Senior  ;) to Beverly Junior,  :smitten: as Jim Reeves once sang, Welcome to My ( Our ) World new-borns Beverly and James, what a life you both have waiting for you, a new beginning...

Shirley

Add my congratulations (and envy), Beverly. I had twin aunts and always hoped for more twins in the family. We do have a "pair of boys" so identical I never could tell them apart, now about 30, but not near enough to see them often. These are my brother's grands. It is an exciting time for all and understand the concern for Brynn. My kids were all early & "fattened up nicely" after being born. Hope they send photos that you can share with us, please?

Amy

Beverly, great to hear all is well with the babies!! Both are a good weight and will come along fine. Congratulations to all!!

Beverly, so good to know the babies were able to "announce" their arrival.

I've probably mentioned that Miss Ellen was 9 weeks early and spent several weeks in an incubator in the NICU.
Once in a while, she would pull her knees up and then straighten them - pulling out the monitor cords.  Nurses were convinced she knew what she was doing because, they said, she gave them a "Gotcha" look when they rushed to check on her.

Congratulations to the entire family.

MaryPage

Love that story about Miss Ellen, Callie.

I have a son named Christopher and a great grandsn who has James in his name.  That one is Miles.  Miles Gregory James Grant, he will tell anyone who inquires.  And a good many who don't.

These twins sound just too good to be true, time wise.  I'm betting they were a week or two further along than the mother and doctor figured.  But over the course of the years and so many generations, I have just about heard it all.  One of my brothers was a ten (10!) month baby.  Mama and I both swore to that until the day she died.  Had to be.

It started out misty-foggy beautiful here: the kind of day you cannot see more than a couple of car lengths ahead of you when driving (which I was not doing), and it makes you think of British murder mysteries.  Then the sun broke through and dried up all the lovely wisps of mystery.  Now there are loads of white sails out there: all about to find themselves turning deep salmon in the sunset.

Eat and sleep, Little Babies.  Don't worry your sweet-smelling little heads about a thing.  Time enough for that later.

I'll bet James Christopher (will they call him Jim?)  has the longer eyelashes.  They always do, the boys.  And the curlier hair.  Not fair, but that's the way of it.

Duplicated in Soda Shoppe...
...at last i got my safety hand rails installed, man just this minute left after fitting one inside my shower unit and another outside the main front door, so i now have something solid to grab hold of on the brick wall, as i take the double step from inside my door to the ground outside...this has taken 2 & a half months of waiting...Told someone else will contact me as to fitting a ramp from the conservatory outside for getting my mobility scooter in and out to the back garden patio, so i can ride it through the back gate to the front driveway....

Marilyne

Good Morning all.  It's just 7:15 here, and I'm sitting here, waiting for my friend, Mr. Coffee.  After a few cups, I will be ready to face the day.

Jackie - Glad you finally got your safety rails installed, and I hope you won't have to wait much longer for the ramp.  It will be a refreshing break for you, to be able to take a ride every day on your scooter.

Mary Page - How true it is that the baby boys seem to always be blessed with the long eyelashes and the wavy manageable hair!  Oh yes, I also remember kissing those sweet smelling little baby heads.  It's been a long time since I've had the pleasure.

Well, time to indulge in my favorite beverage, and then a breakfast muffin.  I will return later, and hope to see messages from all our friends who post here.

Good Morning from the still quite hot
and humid,  but cooling down is in our
near future...  (Hooray).. , Rocky
  Coast of Maine.

Summer is slowly coming to and end
even though we can still have some hot
weather in the fall.   Usually by night fall
cooler comes faster.

Marilyn,  you asked about what shows
I recommend watching ..    I have Netflix,
Hulu, Prime (amazon), Paramount
(used to be CBS all access), peacock, discovery,
and Acorn...   So I spend my days browsing
those to find movies or series that I want
to keep up  with.      Right now I am watching all  12 seasons of "Criminal Minds"  (Yikes)  !!

Covid  interfered with some of the Series
that I enjoyed but they are starting again
to begin filming.

I sign up for emails from some of the
stations and they let me know what is
new...   Keeping everything straight
is challenging but  if I keep paying
attention,  I can stay up with  what
s new and what I choose to watch.

I watch a lot of TV daily,
plus MSNBC for my particular
brand of politics...  but this is
a personal choice I don't expect
others to like the same.

Have  a good Summer's day,  EVERYONE !
Love

MSNBC is my favorite, as well and all, Sandy-Dapph.

Inside running joke in our home, because of my patchy senile dementia making me forget things from just an instant ago, and also not allowing my mouth muscles to properly translate the words my brain is transmitting, I so very sadly speak the wrong names or words, but strangely these begin with the same letters of the alphabet as the words or names I am trying to say.  One day, oh, mebbe a year or so ago, I was telling Chip it was time for me to watch Andrea Mitchell (noon here), but it came out "Angela Merkel!"  Well, we have called her Angela Merkel ever since. Outsiders would think us totally uninformed!

Andrea is way past her prime, but still superior to most.  The biggie is that she has the pull to get people on that no one else can get.  If I were her, I would have retired long since!  Andrea will be 75 next month; just a kid compared to me, but still up there.  And she's still cute as a bright shiny new button!

I like to go over to CNN occasionally and watch me some Anderson Cooper.  I reminisce about being a child and having a go at the morning paper Daddy left behind when he went to work.  A combination of newspapers, news magazines (LIFE, with all of its pictures was one of these!), radio and the news reels we ALWAYS got a 15-minute segment of when we went to the moving picture show, together filled me in on the magical world of "The Poor Little Rich Girl."  Remember her?  Her name was Gloria Vanderbilt.  She was a little bit older than I, and she is gone now.  Anderson Cooper is her son.

patricia19

Good morning from an Interior at 40° with an expected high of 58°. We are on a break from the past eleven days of steady rain, and we have dense fog this morning. The rain will return soon, and our daily light has decreased as fall is here with all that portends. If all goes as usual, September and October will be cooler, colorful, and beautiful.

The construction crew has been working steadily, to my surprise, in all that rain. I imagine that workers outside envy the crew inside those large machines doing the heavy lifting and placement. This building takes up an entire block, and the front side is finished. They're working on the north side balconies, and I expect our western side's turn soon.

MaryPage, I remember the "Poor little rich girl." We didn't have a television which probably shaped my disregard of one now, but we had both Look and Life magazines and Newsweek and McCalls. Dad and mom kept the radio on 24/7. Unfortunately, as it was primarily a news station, I wasn't fond of it and had to admit I'm a devotee of silence. It makes it easier to read.

MaryPage

The Poor little Rich Girl came along in the nineteen twenties & thirties, and the public did not see television sets in the stores until 1948, as I recall, which was when the factories retooled from World War II weaponry and got these amazing boxes out there for those among us lucky enough to afford them.  They came in large pieces of furniture, plus two nearly as large sound boxes you put as far to the left & right of them as the connecting lines and/or the room apace would allow.  Then we all pulled chairs around and watched the channel signals and waited and waited and waited for a program to come on.  Mostly it was Western movies or news broadcasts.  But, oh gosh, it was Wonderful!  Magic!

Sandy

And todays "MAGIC"
for me is the pocket sized smart phone
that I can take with me anywhere,  that
hangs around my neck and let's any one
who needs to know exactly where I am ...

911 is a heart beat away as well as my kids.

who would have thunk (thought) this possible?

It is quite  a different world out there then
then one I was brought up in.

I like it.

Denver

A good Wednesday HELLO to all.

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday, and surgery is scheduled for 4 PM on Friday the 27th.  Being a diabetic it does concern me that the surgery is so late in the day. 😩

BEVERLY, as mentioned to you on FB, I am so happy for you and all of the family that the twins have arrived and doing well.  How sweet the little girl has been named after you💞

JACKIE, so glad your safety bars have been installed.  They must make you feel so much more secure when using them.

MARILYN, Matthew will get his license toward the end of this month, and YES, he and his dad will be extremely happy for this to happen.  He has done all of the requirements so is just not so patiently waiting for the day to arrive‼️ The family went to Vail this past weekend and Matt drove them all the way home.  Dave said he did great‼️. My dad continues to decline with dementia/Alzheimer's and it is so sad, but I talk to him every day and still can have a meaningful conversation with him.  I hoped I could get down to see him, but this shoulder is just so painful it is out of the question to travel. Sadly, no memorial for Michel yet due to school starting.  Not sure when one can be done😩

It has taken us all morning to get through my surgery instructions.  Do take this pill....don't do that stuff.

Have a great day.

Jenny....a 4 pm wait will just add more stress, as we all would rather an early morning procedure appointment, if just to get it done and dusted, and out of the way...

Yes more secure but even with the front door safety bar, i still struggle to take the step, very dodgy for me...just as well i go out through the kitchen door which is a flat porch way then open the high wooden gate which separates the two doors...

Jenny -  sounds like you're all prepared for your shoulder surgery, and now just another 10 days to go. :happydance:  I don't blame you for getting impatient - it's been a long time since your injury.
Sorry to hear that your Dad is not doing well, but hoping you will be able to visit with him when your doctor gives you the the 'okay' to go.   Glad to hear that the kids are doing well, and that Matthew will soon get his license.

Beverly -  I hope Brynn is doing well, and is on the road to recovery?   She has a lot of work and some sleepless nights coming up soon!  I'm sure she'll get lots of help from her husband, and also from Lauri.   Hope to see some photos soon!

Sandy -  your pocket sized smart phone, sounds wonderful!   I'm going to look into getting one also, as I tend to forget my phone when I go somewhere by myself.  When I realize I don't have it with me I get very uneasy, and always cut my errands short.
Looks like you have a bigger selection of streaming channels than I do.  I have Netflix, Prime, and HBO, plus all the regular Xfinity channels that come with my bundle. (Phone, TV and internet)   I couldn't do without all my news channels, plus HGTV, Animal Planet, Nat Geo, TCM . . . and on and on it goes!     Yes, it's expensive, but it's our only form of entertainment, so we splurge every month.   I'd like to get Hulu, so I can watch,  "A Handmaid's Tale", but will put that one off for a while.

Mary Page -  I love your name mixup . . .  Andrea Mitchell / Angela Merkel! :D    I can definitely relate.  Names are my nemesis!  I used to laugh at my father, when he would say  - "You remember old,  What's His Name,  who  used to play golf with me"?   Now I find myself saying the same thing.

Vanilla-Jackie

Marilyne...there seems to be so many people named " what's his name "  ;D

I was due a home visit from GP's community nurse " some time " today, or vampire as we prefer to call them, to take my blood, she never turned up but, is now coming to my home " some time " tomorrow, Saturday..

Marilyne

Well, the lack of messages here in B&T, has gone on long enough!  :D  I'll break the silence, although I haven't got much to say.  I've been housebound for the past couple of days, so have had lots of time on my hands, but haven't felt much like writing.  Maybe too much to write about - but none of it very upbeat or happy.

First of all, my autistic granddaughter, (now age 30), has been talking on line with a young man from Afghanistan, for the past couple of years.  They mostly talk on FaceTime.  He recently emigrated to France to live with relatives, so he is safe, but his parents, and two teenage sisters are part of the mass of humanity at the Kabul Airport.  His father was an interpreter for our military, so they are eligible to leave, but can't move in the airport mass of humanity.  Now it's been so long, that his father's cell phone has died, so he has lost track of what is happening to them.  No way to charge a cell phone of course.  So now I feel like I have a personal connection to that disaster and am anxious for any updates.

The other thing that's a constant worry, for us here in Northern CA,  are the ongoing, uncontrollable wildfires.  The smoke is thick here, because it is drifting down from the two main fires that have been burning for weeks. We are not in danger, as we were last year.  All we can do, is stay inside and wait, and wonder what can ever be done in the future to stop these yearly holocausts?  No measurable rain here for the past couple of Winters.  There was some snow in the Sierra last Winter, but not enough . . . never enough anymore.  The reservoirs are almost empty, the natural lakes and rivers are drying up.  I really fear for my young family members in the future?  We are all native Californians, going back many generations, but I think the young people should seriously consider moving out of State.

Well, enough said, on those gloomy subjects.  Hope some of you have some happy talk?  It was great to read the good news from Beverly, about her twin great-grandbabies, and I would love to hear from her again soon.

Jackie -  I just saw your new message -  hope you get your blood work done ASAP.

Well, once again: the Scientists have been telling us for 71 years now that we need to stop using fossil fuels that put carbon dioxide in the air and make the planet heat up which dries out the forests while at the same time changing the weather patterns (I learned in 7th grade Science that hot air makes bodies of water warmer and these bodies of warm water then create great storms) so that we have more and more and ever more storms with huge amounts of lightning which hit the extra dry forests and burn them down.  Plus we humans are using up all of the water the centuries have been storing in underground aquifers because we have allowed our populations to explode.  Human beings cannot live without breathable air and pure water. But our politicians want the money the fossil fuel people pay them and the fossil fuel people want the profits they are making.  And the current pols and the current vendors of fossil fuels figure they'll be very rich for now and very dead before younger generations start realizing the problem so many insisted was not there in fact WAS.  We are quite stubborn, we homo species of the animal kingdom of the primate type.  Quite set in our ways.

The year I was born, there were TWO BILLION people living on Planet Earth.  Today there are almost EIGHT BILLION.  The planet did not evolve its ecosystem to support that kind of population.

Happy Friday to ALL.  THANK YOU, JACKIE, MARILYN and MARYPAGE for keeping us going😘 I am guilty  of not posting as often as I should.  Sometimes I just do not have much new to say🤐. But I sure miss what you all have to say‼️

JACKIE, as usual you can not seem to count on anything you have been told!  I hope they do get to you tomorrow for the blood work!  Speaking of bloodwork..... I was able to look at my results from my pre-op blood work and could not believe there was two full pages of results‼️ Some of them that were not normal can concern us novices, but thankfully I have Dr. Dave to look them over, and he assured me that everything is in line and I have nothing to worry about.

MARILYN, I am so sad to read your bit about your granddaughters Afghan Friend that she communicates with😩 How sad and extremely concerning. I hope and pray his family is safe and out of there on one of the flights.  Very sad to hear last night on the news that the embassy did ask the powers that be to please stat evacuating personnel immediately, and it did not happen😡 I am saddened to read that you feel you should encourage your younger generation to leave California.....their family home for generations.  I must admit that having a son moving to CA is concerning for this very reason.....but we must realize that it is not only Cali that is dealing with this sever issue.

MARYPAGE, clearly we have known FOR MANY YEARS of the issues that we have caused over the years and we STILL continue to abuse our EARTH😩😡  Thinking about "your view" and hoping you are enjoying another nice day.

One week from right now,  I should be prepped and ready for my total shoulder replacement surgery.  They changed my 4PM time yesterday to 10:30AM and I was so happy, I cried.  This morning I got a message saying to check in at 10:30.....😩 but still much better than a 4PM‼️

I wish you ALL a happy rest of your day.

Mary Page - Do you remember a popular movement in the 1970's,  called ZPG - standing for Zero Population Growth?  The premise being that married couples have no more than two children.  They would replace themselves, but the total population would remain relatively the same.  Obviously this would not be enforced,  like the one child rule was in China, but it would be strongly recommended.

What ever happened to that movement?  It certainly died a sudden death.  There are some interesting comments online about why it's only a distant memory.  One, is that starting in the 1970's, people no longer felt that it was necessary to get married, and many many woman, had many many babies,  and raised them without fathers.  Marriage was no longer important, or necessary, as it had been in all former generations.  Plus, immigration from other countries where their religion did not allow birth control, moved to the US, and had large families.

I'm not saying whether the idea was good or bad.  I'm just remembering,  and wondering if the USA would be as overcrowded now, if people had been interested in ZPG?
