Good morning from another rainy day in the Interior. It started on the ninth of August and will end on the thirtieth. We still have the plastic over the outside of our balconies, and I'm waiting to see if they come today and why we are shrouded in plastic. At least the administration has finally turned on the heat. I may not need my portable heater today.

Another day of rainbows and lollpops...

A viral post circulating online is making the far-reaching claim that six infectious diseases that have been eradicated are now spreading again and that "illegal immigrants" and "refugees" are the reason they are making a comeback.

"Amy Rowland, the spokesperson for the CDC's Global Health Division, also told PolitiFact immigrants and refugees are not to blame for the outbreaks.

"No, it is not immigrants or refugees causing these outbreaks," Rowland said. "It has to do with travel and people who are not vaccinated or under-vaccinated. It has nothing to do with illegal immigrants."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2019/jun/10/facebook-posts/no-illegal-immigrants-and-refugees-are-not-causing/

"Safer to be unvaccinated against COVID-19? In several ways, that's False
IF YOUR TIME IS SHORT
The chances of contracting COVID-19 and dying from it are much greater for unvaccinated people.

There is no evidence that the COVID-19 vaccines have caused deaths."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/04/viral-image/covid-19-its-safer-be-unvaccinated-several-ways-s-/

"Fauci just told us that they found a variant that evades the test."

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/04/facebook-posts/fauci-did-not-say-there-was-covid-19-variant-can-e/

"Deaths among unvaccinated people: On July 16, even as the delta variant of the virus began spreading, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that over 97% of new hospitalizations were in patients who are unvaccinated.

Breakthrough cases: The CDC's latest data on breakthrough cases — people who become infected with COVID-19 after being vaccinated — says that as of July 26, of the more than 163 million people who had been fully vaccinated, 6,587 were hospitalized or died in the 49 states and territories that report their data to the CDC. Of the 1,263 deaths, 309 were reported as asymptomatic or not related to COVID-19. "

The nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation drilled down to infection rates, finding that among 25 states that report breakthrough cases publicly, the infection rate is well below 1%, ranging from 0.01% in Connecticut to 0.29% in Alaska. The CDC has found evidence suggesting that, although it's rare for vaccinated people to become infected, those who do can spread the virus as readily as unvaccinated people who get infected.

Been a long day here...managed to put a 6 shelf unit together and it wasn't without some words. :tickedoff: Tasted the cole slaw that Jane shared the recipe and it is a keeper!! I think Kyle would have licked the bowl if I hadn't been at the table.....my goodness it is soo good. I will be making more of that!
Gloria, send the cole slaw recipe to your daughter in law...
I thought we didn't sweat but got dewy.. :2funny:

Okay, curiosity got the best of me..... what/where is the coleslaw recipe??? When I put the plea out some years ago, maybe 10-15, I got the same recipe from people in 4 different states, so that's what I named it on my card (4-state coleslaw). BUT, it isn't canned, just shred the cabbage & it's done the same day and absolutely delicious. I'd just like to see what the difference is.  My mouth is watering so guess I'll be making a batch soon.  The neighbor that used to beg for it is dead, he didn't just "hint" but "when are you going to make coleslaw for us?"

Tom is hiding out but Callie has stuck like glue. I gave up and have one of the garage doors open enough for her to come & go..... but I'm afraid she'll invite her friends. Totally not like him to be out all day, but I've decided they either are okay or they aren't. If they show up I will feed and if not........... Tom ate breakfast with the others this morning & went out...

Youngest son usually comes by after work on Wed, he used to eat with me but has a work out routine so quit eating. Then ole Mom started sending food home for him/them to snack on after he works out. They both eat their main meals at noon, work on opposite sides of towns so only when they go out to eat, do they eat together. He says they snack on fruit/cheese & whatever in the evening. She just ran the Pike's Peak marathon so must be in good shape. That is one they have to qualify for. He and other spouses/partners visit usually at the top. Now they have the mountain bikes to enjoy the rest of the time. They book their room a year ahead. Anyway, he is my "neat" kid, always was, so I do a lot of touch up & cleaning litter boxes before he comes.

Better get busy. I am SO anxious for fall/winter. I whine every summer but this has been the worst for a long time. I'm sure a lot has to do with me not going to CO camping. :'(

Hello All y'all!  I went to the Farmer's Market today.  Around here, if you grew up in this area, you call it the THE AUCTION!  I think, even before my time it really WAS a Farmer's Auction.  And it is still mostly local farmer's doing what they do best...growing food and then selling what they don't need.  There are a LOT of Amish who have stands there.  It's a big building that has tables and stands inside and then outside in the front and down one of the sides are stands that have solid tables and tent tops.  I love it in the summer because everything is fresh and local.

Today, I bought red potatoes for canning and they were great!  I bought them from the farmer who actually grew them and he was proud of his work.  I came home and got them ready and canned 7 quarts of them and I have enough left to do 8 more pints.  Frankie and I love them done in the A/F and because they are partially cooked already, they don't take much time.

But all this wore me out and I'm ready for the haystack!  I sure hope it's loaded with zzzzs.

SHIRLEY, when I first saw this cole slaw recipe, I almost didn't even look at it because one of the things you can't can is mayonnaise.  But you don't put the mayonnaise in this one.  You just get everything else ready and add the the mayo when you're ready to eat it.  It's so good and so easy when you're hungry for cole slaw.

I'm off to the stack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..
Heavy clouds and I hope there is rain to fall or I will be out watering the garden.

Working in the basement ,straightening all the preserves and canned goods. Wonder how long it will be till the gremlins mess it up again?

Jane, that sounds like a fun and interesting market to see. I was told that this year is the best year for potatoes and corn. I will find that out when I dig into the potato hills here.

Better get at it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend...and especially you, AMY!  Cooper is here already.  I fed him and as soon as I finish here, we're going for a walk.

AMY, at THE AUCTION you can buy any amount of anything you want from a half pint (or even just one item) all the way to a bushel!  I have a hard time holding back!

I'm going to finish the potatoes today and I have almost enough tomatoes to make sauce for recipes and I'm really getting low on that.  Maybe I'll wait until after Christy's visit this weekend.  She's bringing "maters" for me!  Well, it looks like I'm doing "maters" and "taters" this week!

I better get on my horse and get Cooper's walk in before the guy comes to check out my window that's leaking.  I sure hope all it needs is a guy on a ladder with some caulk!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  AMY I hope you get some rain and you don't have to drag out the hose!

Good morning every one, day 3 of this current heat wave, already 70 and not 7 am yet. Another day of bad air, too. A day to stay inside for me. I don't always go out for a short walk but like to get out and sit on the porch for awhile most days. Some days it is a social time and at others it is just me and a book but at least I get out of my apartment for awhile.

JANE  well had something to see here about yesterday, made some blueberry muffins. Had blueberries I had to use before they went bad faster than I could eat them. They are yummy and I had her take half of them home with her.

PATRICIA  heat will get turned on here the beginning of October no matter how cold it might get.  The former maintenance man would argue with the witch telling her that the elderly get cold easy and need the heat. She hat a heater in her  office and could care less. Firs tof April it gets turned off. When she was not here he would turn  it on, she never works a full week or a full day. He lived on the premises and the new man has a house and wife and  4 kids so cannot live in the apartment that goes with the job. Wonder how that will work when snow starts falling. Paul would be outside in the middle of the night with a small plow cleaning the walks and the entrance incase anyone called for the emergency ambulance.

AMY  I know my daughter and DIL both like coleslaw, DIL and son are new  to canning but really have been doing a lot of it this year.

SHIRLEY  this has been a ve ry hot and humid summer here. Like you I look forward to October to get here when it will surely be cooler.

JANE  that recipe would not be for me with the onions in it. Raw onions and me don't get along. I have tried since I was a kid to eat them but always ended in the bathroom.

Have a good day and keep cool.

Good morning, another rainy day here. We have 4-5 days remaining of these dreary days. The construction guys are to finish up this side. The rain has created delays as they were to have finished on the twenty-third. Then it is new windows in October with somewhere in there, a whole apartment inspections by staff and maintenance from Juneau. I will be glad when this is done.

Gloria, the heat is on but just barely. They have the same October to April heat schedule here, but with the full Covid lockdown into its seventeenth month and only essential services open, people need a few things to look forward to, and no winter isn't one of them.

Amy, a neighbor we had growing up, Mrs. Hubner, had their basement staircase's inset walls made into shelves for her canned goods. My mother was jealous as she had to go all the way downstairs and into the second room for her canned goods. My folks had the basement tiled and wood paneling added in the late sixties but never remodeled further. That was when my older sister and I left home, and my younger sister was a preteen and into sports.

Good Thursday afternoon from hot and humid central Oklahoma.

Shirley, She just ran the Pike's Peak marathon so must be in good shape. That is one they have to qualify for
Hubby ran up Pike's Peak in the 1970's while we still lived in Leadville. Wasn't a marathon but may have been a shorter race connected with it. He just had to register - not qualify.  He ran up Barr's Trail to the top but chose to ride back down.  He carried his "participation" coin in his pocket until he died in 1993.

#2 son and I resumed our bi-weekly "dinner dates" last evening.  His birthday is tomorrow and he had requested a Mississippi Mud cake.  So I made it yesterday - first time in years I'd made a cake from scratch!  He pronounced it "great" but I told him the next time he makes a request to make sure it starts with a cake mix!  ;D

Patricia, I saw the pix of the balconies on your building. Can you still see over them?  Are they open along the bottom?
My HOA is having all the roofs in the complex completely replaced because of hail damage a couple of years ago. We got a letter from the roofing company listing what we needed to be aware of when it's our turn. Would like to "escape" to a son's house at that time but workmen need to be inside at least twice to check the attic and the solar lights.  It will be late September/early October before they get around to me so maybe I'll be used to the noise by that time.

Cake making process and fixing dinner wore me out so I'm having a "Recliner Radish" day.

That's it from this corner.

Shirley

Here it is, another week nearly gone, can't believe it!  You girls have gotten me in the mood to sort & clean, been a while since I did that. I'm digging out all the "stuff" that came in when we got back from Colorado a YEAR ago June, for sure all those batteries are in dire need of charging, (like the Magellan GPS & Garmin GPS, the head lamps, etc) Got stuff plugged in everywhere, sure hope the batteries didn't ruin because they drained so completely.  :(

I really did think I would be selling the motorhome after the oxygen problem, then Covid hit & the deaths & funerals that we did get to go to at the start & the short period this spring when we thought we had it licked until the new variety showed up. Anyway, what keeps going thru my mind was June's expression, something about "the behinder I got........" I couldn't be any behinder than right now!  Certainly keeping me entertained inside this day of awful heat. I think I need a nap as soon as I clean up the last of my box of "drumstix" in the freezer. I will not get another box.... for a while.  ;)

This morning I ordered some Christmas presents.... from Yellowstone... Monopoly of National Parks.... with the little thingies being camping gear & the houses being tents or cabins. My kids & grands have been big board game players & enjoy with each other & friends, so I figured I'd do as advised & order early!

Tom is sleeping in my bedroom & Tiger sleeping where we take naps.... Callie is outside or in the garage, her choice with garage door open enough for her to slip in or out. No danger of rain~~ She couldn't stand me going out the back garage door & not being with me, so she followed me into the pool area while I cut out some darn elm & redbud trees growing in the little circle flower bed in the concrete. She was uneasy & gladly went back into the garage when I did. Cats & their secrets.  ::)

Thanks, Amy, for that link. Sounds so good.... maybe when it gets cooler I'll mix up the kind I don't need to can. That is good, too. Don't remember who all sent the recipes but 4 different states, but came from here.

I am not sure if I got all right about that Pike's Peak run this year, Callie, because he said something about "she rode down" but pleased with how well she did. She had serious neck surgery less than a year ago so had not been able to run for quite a while, that's why they got into riding the bikes. Anybody that can walk & breathe out there impresses me. I made that banana cake & 7 min icing from scratch a week ago & very proud of myself. Not eager to go to all that work again soon. (& remember, we used to have little kids underfoot when washing all those pots, pans & bowls).

patricia19

Callie, since they painted the balcony floors right afterward, I believe they're to protect the drying pant from the rain, and yes they're attached so no view.

Good morning ‼️
The clock is ticking down! Tomorrow, Friday, the 27th is the BIG day I have been waiting for so long😻 By this time tomorrow it should be over and done👍.  I check in at Sky Ridge Hospital at 6:30 for my surgery. The time has been changed 4 times, so I hope this will be the last time.
I would be kidding myself if I did not admit that I am feeling a bit anxious....who likes going under the knife‼️ or just going UNDER at all? I know I will be fine🙏 AND I GOTTA GET 'ER DONE🥰🥰

Prayers and good wishes for a successful surgery, Jenny.

Janie, you always like to see "details" from others.  How about doing that yourself? What special people and what kind of "stuff"?  :smitten:

Sleep well, Everyfrend and have Pleasant Dreams.

JaneS

Well, CALLIE, one of the special people was AMY's son.  I had something to send to her and he was in this area so we met in the WM parking lot and he took it for her.
He's a nice guy and she can be proud of him!  I loved meeting with him.  This is our second meeting.

The "stuff" was getting tomatoes ready for canning, getting a leaky window fixed, spending time with my "great-grand- doggie" and making a pretty good dinner (It was Jambalaya...kinda hot but very tasty).  Also, hugs from Frankie when she picked up Cooper and cleaning out a couple of drawers.  Just....Stuff!

Good night all

Jenny, more prayers and thoughts for tomorrow. Hope you can sleep tonight.

I'm ready to turn in myself, Jane. Been trying all afternoon to nap but every time I went into
that bedroom I see those bags of "stuff" that came out of the motorhome and so many batteries needing charged plus updates ..... I'm breathing like already asleep.

Does it feel like somebody left the furnace on?  Really, enough!  Sweet dreams & God Bless..

CallieOK

Janie, you had a day worth sharing!  Thank you

Amy

Good morning..

Dark out there with a temp of 58°. How I wish it would stay there and not go to frying weather!!

Off to go to the grocery store for 7 this morning then home to start canning . Will be a toss up on which one to start.......30 lbs of beets or hamburg?? That's if either one is in the store to buy!

Jane, David thinks you are a pretty special lady but we all in here know that. He should get home in time for supper tonight if all goes well.

Jenny, hugs and prayers for today and a speedy recovery. Let everyone spoil you till you feel up to doing things on your own.

Shirley, we are still in a heat bath..and I am another one that does not like it.  Hope this soon breaks and we get some cooler, livable weather.

Gloria, you could leave the onions out of the slaw, maybe use celery instead? I was amazed that after canning it the cabbage was still crunchy!

Patricia, hope the sun shines through for you today. Not sure how much you would see through that plastic but much nicer than rain.

Callie, that is a lot of noise overhead and I don't blame you for wanting to escape it. One thing about it,these men are pros and it won't take them long to do the roof.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem for a while now.
Cooper has arrived, I fed him and we went for a walk.  Then he had to go out and check out the yard and he's back in and ready for a short rest.

It's supposed to rain most of the day today but it was supposed to start around 8 and that was a little better than a half hour ago.  It's cloudy and kind of dark but so far, no rain.
I told Cooper he was playing "Out again, in again, Finnegan".  That's what my dad used to say I was doing when I was little!  Maybe I was supposed to be a dog!

On the agenda for today....What to do with the summer squash.  There was more on the fence this morning!  I got a recipe for soup off line but it has some stuff I don't have.  I'll have to check what I can substitute or make a quick trip to the store.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone,  already 76 here. Yesterday with the dewpoint it felt  like 101.

JACKIE  the blueberries  this year have been great and no t as expensive as other years. I have some in  the freezer for during the winter. Made a couple of pies so far.

PATRICIA  for someone who canno ttake the hea t and humidi ty of summer I always look forward  to winter and the cold weather.

CALLIE  these days I work with Yvette to bake any thing, she has  to put  things into the oven and take them out. Something else I can no longer do.

SHIRLEY  that Monopoly game will be wonderful for those who like camping. Younger people these days don't  know how to make anything from scratch. Yve tter told me she mad chocolate chop cookies for her grandsons and I asked her what recipe she used. She said the roll from the dairy case. I told her she cheated.

JENNY  surgery never scared me but when they put me under I never wake up till the next day, no matter what time I have the surgery, even when I had the firs t carpal tunnel surgery-done as out patient. Had trouble waking up. T he o ther 2 carpal  tunnel surgeries I was awake buy wrist was numb and did not feel anything. Much better doctor  than  the first  one. Hugs and prayers for you today.

JANE  I am tired reading all you did in one day. I would be lucky  to do one of those chores.

AMY  I cannot remember how many times I substituted celery for onions.

LLOYD  HAPPY BIRTHDAY. How great that Nancy will bake your favorite cake for y our special day.

Sun is shining and the temperature is climbing again. A few more hours and I will be lowering the shades against the sun.
Have a good day and keep cool.

I'm thinking of Jenny right now with fingers crossed and hoping that the surgery is going well and the recovery will be fast.

Hot here, too, and I'm so very tired of it.  My younger son and dil were here over the past weekend and I loved seeing them after two years but it nearly wore me down to a frazzle.  I'm still trying to catch up, both the house and me.

Happy Birthday, Lloyd.

Take care, All.
