"Swinging on a Star" - Bing Crosby

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
He kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He's got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Everyday you'll meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

Ah, HA! Glad it was you, Bubble, causing the problem why I couldn't post. I was afraid I'd have to come up with trying to remember how to get in again. Thanks for the new site, beautiful graphics & all.... will tell you I still remember every word of Swinging on a Star (thanks for the click, Rick).... happy little tune!

Boy, I out-did myself today but still spinning my wheels. Tired to the bone but still a couple things to do before Jane's slam shut mode gets a chance to show up.

Was hot HOT today, ran sprinklers & thought they were not pumping as much water out as normal, so switched to add water to the pool & for sure, well not doing what it should. #1 son thinks I need to give each of the zones a few minutes to blow out any sand that might be letting water leak on thru..... and I know it has been doing that because in the back that isn't getting run, you see a nice round spot about 6' diameter of greener than other places, where every sprinkler head is taking advantage of the leakage. I hate to have to "try out" anything in case it goes wrong & creates a mess I don't know how to handle, but I will do it before calling the well people. So that is the worry for tonight but don't think I'll need anyone to rock me to sleep.

Sandy, nobody had a mask on at their house but I'm hoping all safe since every person there has been tested constantly because of the day care rules. My niece was explaining that the nurse that does her testing was saying they can tell her antibodies are extremely high .... and I can't remember why she could tell.  :-[   Niece's husband is a police officer & teaches a class at the local college. His mother was with them & she is mid 90s. Didn't look or act it, so I guess they are comfortable being together & didn't seem to care that I haven't had the shots. My kids keep reading all the latest reseach on Covid & convinced I am as safe as anyone since I did have it hard, back in last week of Oct & first week & half of Nov & still strong antibodies.

Have to get up early to water the tomatoes in the trug... sure disappointed they turned out to be little biddy tomatoes & not the BIG BEEFSTEAK & Big Boys I thought I was getting. They are the same size as the early girls & I expected them to be smaller (not cherry tomatoes!). Not nice to trick little old ladies.... won't buy there next year!

And now I will head to bed... nearly 11:00 pm, 83° & feels like 90°, couple more days of mid 90s & then chance of T-storms. Hopefully we will get some rain, everything needs it. So far this summer nary a single cool night to open the door for fresh air. I hate summer when I start feeling trapped inside with AC, never did like heat.

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Love ya all...........Shirley

Good morning..

A cool 48° here this morning...beautiful!!! Windows and doors open to let the cool air in.

Another busy day here with making green relish...have a few cucumbers plus part of that huge cabbage leftover so will put them to good use!

Packaging up the cabbage rolls and wiping down the jars of dog food are another job in the list today.

Bubble, thank you for the new start. Nolan is/was right......get off your butt and accomplish things.

Shirley, sounds like you family group took precautions. Good for your niece's MIL..she sounds a lot like you......has get up and go. :)

Slept in so better get my wiggle on and get things done.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up, fed Tiger so far but Tom sitting outside the sliding door by this computer & for some reason does not want to come in for breakfast. I have found 2 dead mice "out in the yard" that one of them must have brought home from night hunts. Not sure where they find them but sure not in THIS yard! Haven't see the stray cat for at least a week & the mice run wild with no ferals to keep them down. Before we adopted the first cat the mice were everywhere, but I've done my part of getting cats "fixed" & let them run wild. That's what we sign when the Humane Society fixes them for about half what it costs with a vet.

I'm going downstairs & turn each zone on & off like Andy suggested. Several times each...7 zones. If anything goes wrong & water floods the basement you will hear me scream all the way to England or Israel, I promise. Do not think I can handle any more problems this week~~

Onward and no more whining! You sure you can't share your temps, Amy, even for a few days??? Please & pretty please?

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We've been up for a while now.  Frankie spent the night and had to be to work early.  It gets a bit busy around here in the morning until she leaves.  I don't know how she manages when she's home.  Maybe that's part of the reason she likes to spend the night here when she has an early morning.

BUBBLE, thanks for the nice new home!  I'm pretty sure everyone in our generation remembers "Swingin' On A Star"  and I'm sure they remember Bing Crosby  and The movie "Going My Way that starred him.  It's a song I sing to myself around the house when all the windows are closed and I'm alone.  I can't carry a tune in a basket but I like to sing!

We're supposed to have rain all day today and they're predicting 4 to 6 inches with flooding of small streams being a threat.  They're saying that the river was low enough that it's crest will be below flood stage so that's one good thing

Cooper and I just took a short walk in the rain.  He didn't like it either because he took care of business so we could come back home before we even made it to the corner.

I have the tomatos cooked down to make sauce to can in little jars for cecipes all winter.  Don't know how many I might get out of what I have ready to go but it should be enough to last the winter.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. 65 now and cloudy. Rain fron Ida will s tar t lat e morning and contimue for at least 24 hours. Forecasters say we could get  inches of it and maybe more is some areas. The ground is already saturated and wonder how many  trees will topple over.

BUBBLE  thanks for the new book t o fill up. I can still picture Bing Crosby singing that song. Still hard to see him in the role of a priest though.

Not  up to gabbing this morning so think I will go lay on the couch and watch TV trough my eye lids. On local weather just now they showed where it is already raining a little. Saying in some areas might get 6 or 7 inches of rain. That is too much with the ground as wet as it is already.
Have a good day and stay safe.

You kids are having too much fun!  ::)  :metoo:  :nahna:

After 10:00 am & I just had breakfast BUT been up since 5:00am & did a full day of work. Scrubbed off those bugs from the motorhome windshield before they got baked on. Went down to the sprinkler controls to the well & did as son suggested a week ago AND IT WORKED! So been watering my side that also waters the neighbors for the last hour so I can skip a day while I open the slide on the RV.

Got to be able to walk around that king size bed to take sheets off & make sure the cat "accident" didn't go thru the mattress pad. Think the plastic shower curtain I had over the top actually caught all of it because it never smelled after sopping up with half a roll of paper towels & putting the shower curtain in a black plastic bag twistied tight. Watered the trug & potted plants and while all wet, hosed off those blasted spiders from the front on the house & put away that hose, ladder & all.

Cleaned the windshield again.... had to laugh at myself on the way to MO.... I had cleaned the windshield before leaving, a 2nd time with Windex because just taking a chamois to the windows with our hard water leaves a scum... only I forgot the do the passenger side & what a difference!!! This time I got both sides and just now looked out & see I forgot to bring in the bottle of Windex & it is sitting on the hood of the motorhome!

Had my shower, washed my hair & feel a little better since eating, but I really want to go back to bed. Not yet.....errand to run & #2 son will by tonight when he gets off work. Still have some stuff carried in from the RV that needs to be put away & gotta clean that up before my neat son comes by. The other son understands a "working mess" but the younger one can tile & remodel a room and have it clean while working. Anyway, day is not done (song in there) so better get a move on.

Gloria, let's invite everyone over for this...  :snowball:  :snowman:

I finished all the "maters"....even the quart I found in the back of the fridge that thought it would escape the blender.  I have 4 half pints and 12 quarter pints of sauce ready for recipes and all it cost me was the energy to do it.  the "maters" were free from Christy's garden.

Of course, three of the green tomatoes that were in Christy's box had the nerve to ripen while I was busy with the canning so now I have a start on the next batch...or maybe a couple to just eat.  There are some green ones that I plan to fry.  I have a recipe for the A/F so I can do as many as I think I can eat for a meal.  Maybe that'll be supper!

Everything is cleaned up and put away except the canner.  That had to cool.  I'm thinking that a nap would be nice but I see it's almost 2:30 and Frankie said she works until 2 or 3 and then she'll be by to pick up Cooper and her overnight stuff.  I guess I'll wait until she leaves.  I think I'll get a cup of coffee.  Anyone want to join me?  It's on the house!  I think Amy might have some cookies or we could grab some of Callie's cookies.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

It's still pouring here.  When Cooper and I came back from our walk, I took a towel to him and got him pretty dry.  I had to change all the clothes that stuck out of my raincoat.

SHIRLEY, stop scrubbing!  You're making me tired and I have enough "tireds" to last me the rest of the day.

Jane, I am just about done here too. Just waiting on the corn relish then I too can clean up the messy kitchen. That should do me for the day I would think. Neighbour called, asked me to  meet her at the fence and she gave us a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Neither one of us has had them and she thought we would also like to try them. Will share the doughnuts as there is way too many for us!!

I finally picked a yellow squash!! Went out to the garden and could see my breath it was that cool..so nice though. So into the AF it will go..

Krispy Kreme Donuts:  Wow, I'll take all that you don't eat!

RAMMEL

Krispy Kreme donuts were a big (very big) thing in 1957 when I was in Charleston, SC. There was a Krispy Kreme store not too far away and we would try to get them still hot.
We have Krispy Kreme around the NY Metro area but none nearby any more.  Eat one and you'll likely eat another
