There was a Krispy Kreme in one of the towns where we picked up and returned one of the kids to college.  I'm thinking it was somewhere in Virginia.  We got so we had to stop there either coming or going.  I think there was a magnet on our car that was hooked up to the shop!

A quick good night.... My body thinks we are in bed & just hope there is enough steam to get me there. Breathing heavy & eyes at half mast.

Sweet dreams & God Bless, Love y'all.

Good Night to Everyfriend!  I'm like Shirley except my eyes have enterd slam shut stage.  And tomorrow, I have some errands to do...including a stop at Davy's and a stop by the church to pick up robes to wash and probably iron.  They put out a call for someone to do them and I volunteered.  I don't know how many there are or how long I have to get them done.  I guess I'll find out!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

It stopped raining!  Boy! we got a lot of it.  The puddles on the road have joined up and formed a "river road"!

Good night and sweet dreams everyone. we had a good day, we went for a drive and stopped at one of the Amish stores and got three mums plant's for our grand daughter's Birthday present and some potting soil for our raised beds and a watermelon. that made a full day. I am planning on scraping up some good top soil to mix with the potting soil for the beds. and plant some, radishes , carrots and lettuce and a few kinder beans and tomato plants. our raised beds has four plastic tubs 4' x 4'x 1' foot deep. and is waste tall. set close to the back of the door. so we can go right out the door and work in it. Hope to see you all tomorrow.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The rain stopped and the coffee's done.
The best part of that sentence is that the place the guy fixed on Monday didn't leak a drop!  So I guess I don't have to call him back!  He knew what he was talking about.

Cooper will be arriving in about 15 minutes and the day will begin!  The temp is at 64º and isn't supposed to go higher than 74 today!  Has Fall arrived?

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

A cool 58° this morning and we are heading into a long weekend..so traffic will be a stinker :(  Will nip into town to the lumber yard and I saw that the grocery store has cashews on sale so will pick some up for Kyle and the neighbour. They come in a big jug normally for 19.99 and are on sale for 13.99!We have paint etc to take to the hazardous waste depot today.

I am NOT canning or pickeling today..may do some baking and laundry and coast for the day.

Jane, lately my slam shut modes have been coming early in the evening. Plus my get up and go seems to want to stay in bed in the mornings...

Lloyd ,some of the folks that bought the trugs/raised bed have put in a second crop. One that grows quick eg radish /lettuce.

Better get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

As usual I am a day late for all the fun here started by CALLIE. We sure had rain and stopped when I looked out just now. Don't  know it that is the end or not. On local news they did say rivers in the southern end of the state are over flowing above flood stage and it is 57 here. It will be another month before heat is on but I sure could use it this morning. Feels damp amd cold in here. In a town near Newport they had 8 inches of rain and a road caved in. Don't know if Yvette will be here today or not. She said when leaving yesterday that is it looked bad where she lives she would not be here. Good, better than taking a chance and getting stuck. Showed some highways with traffic backed up for hours on either side of flooded areas.

SHIRLEY  if all this rain had been snow we would be out there playing in it, right? I wish.  These days all I could do would be looking at it and wishing I was young again to enjoy  it.

JANE  las t year bot h sons had more toma toes than  they could eat so gave me a lot  of them. Made a double ba tch of spaghet ti sauce for the freezer. I think I still have one container in there. T his year  they did not get many and I miss getting those nice fresh ones.

AMY  no Krisspy Kreme doughnut palces here but we do have a lot  of Dunkin Doughnuts ones.

Gosh you folks are making me wish for a Krispy Kreme bu t none of  their stores ever made it  to R.I.

JANE  cannot see amy puddles from my windows and the walk in frontof the building is start ing to dry. Guess maybe the rain is finished for now.

LLOYD  at this time of year no one would think of planting anything here. Never know when we get the first killing frost or a snowstorm very early at the beginning of winter or even the end of autumn.

Have a good day and be safe.

Gloria, we don't have  a KK here either. This was done though a fund raiser..have no idea of where they came from. We have Tim Hortons...everywhere it seems. My favourite donut is an apple fritter or I used to be able to get a maple dipped with lots of walnut pieces on top!! Guess when peanut allergies came into play they stopped making them.

Pass me a Bavarian cream filled pastry & I'll sit up & beg! I've only tasted 2 places in my life that made it as good as my mother.

I'm actually tipsy this morning from lack of sleep. Let Tiger join me in bed last night because I felt sorry for her. Tom was out back & Callie out front & I was all she had to talk to. We did not get many zzzzzzzzzzs.  So far they've been fed & I ate so first mistake, always sleepy after eating. Got the yard watered & the motorhome jacks down so I could put the slide out & take the sheets & mattress pad off. Too much for one load so 2nd mistake, didn't put mattress pad in first load!  :P Can't make up bed till that's dry... duh. Kept smelling propane while cleaning off the bed so checked the gauge & it is right were I marked it when getting back. Not leaking! That's a good thing. As soon as the first load is done & in the dryer, 2nd load in washer.... I will take a power nap & hope that fixes this zombie.

It rained in western KS overnight but didn't push this far east. Maybe the week end so that's my push to get the bed made up & slide back in. It is waterproof but don't want to chance hail hitting that extended roof over the slide, don't think as tough as the new roof put on the whole top last year. This slide is full length from side door to back of RV, makes it a much bigger room when out, but still usable when in. I don't have to put slide out to crawl back on the bed for a nap or night. Handy in a Walmart parking lot! ;)

Almost 9:00am and I'm ready for bed... but not yet. Think I'll eat a plate of tomatoes my sister sent home with me. SO good compared with store bought.

I have a couple packages of lettuce to plant when the tomatoes quit setting on. Right now I'm getting 4 or 5 small ones nearly every day. Sure not what I expected but I can't just pull them out when they are trying.... that would be cruel.  ::)  Sounds like the washer is done so can do the magic switch & move on!  Have a HAPPY DAY, EVERY FRIEND! (Thank you, Jane)

So nice to see you all like Krispy Kreme's.  They are North Carolina's own.  Started from a New Orleans recipe by a man in Winston-Salem. NC.  One of the very first KK shops outside of Winston-Salem was here in Raleigh and everybody always waited each day for the flashing neon sign, "Hot Donuts".  Unfortunately, Covid has closed that shop temporarily but locals have hopes it will open again and flash the sign.  Of course, now KK's are sold all over the world, mostly in grocery stores now, but they are never as good as fresh and hot right out of the fryer.

H.Ida was just a little rain for us here in Central NC but, I'm sorry it was such a terrible storm by the time it reached the Northeast.  Hope those of you who live up that way are OK.

Take care, All.

Shirley, I managed a donut shop and the Bavarian creams were a quick seller. We did one with chocolate fondant ,maple, and vanilla that chocolate fondant had been drizzled on then the  stick was drawn through to make a fern like design on them. [lack}

Good morning from a second sunny, cloudless day in the Interior! September is starting great, with lows in the fifties and highs in the early seventies. Of course, the cooling down starts next week, but it will be a big change from August's temperatures in the forties and fifties and constant rain.

They changed their minds and will start on the new windows and balcony doors on the seventh. This means my side of the building will start by the 14th. I have to check for sure as everything has to be moved six feet away from the balcony and the windows.

I also will have to set up Farrah in the bathroom, which will be a concern as she doesn't like strangers in her space. The loud commotions from the balcony replacements put her in crisis mode. And all residents have to be out of the apartment while the crews are working.

We don't have Krispy Cremes, Dunkin Donuts, or Tim Hortons here, but we have their coffees in the grocery stores. Dare I say I've never been a donut fan anyway?  :-\  I've always been team carb rather than team sweet. Many places here sell donuts but not exclusively, and I cannot rate them, unfortunately.

Shirley, you, along with Amy and Jane, put me to shame. Besides moving stuff around for various contractors and the day-to-day tasks, I've spent more time couch surfing than busy. Isn't couch surfing another Callieism?  However, tomorrow is another hunting and gathering day, so that will cover a lot of bases!

Amy

Patricia, yay they will hopefully get the new windows and doors done before the cold weather sets in!! Will Farrah let you give her some Rescue remedy?  Son is now giving it to their Dane for anxiety since they said goodbye to Cole the other Dane.

Went to pick beans and wished I had of put a jacket on.....not complaining here just didn't dress for the fresh air! Clipped the neighbours dogs nails and then did Babes, she is really not impressed with that.

Laundry is being done and working downstairs rearranging things.....lots of things :))

Thanks Amy, I know about Rescue Remedy, yet I never thought about that for Farrah! I will look for some on the third.

Patricia  I'm a "recliner radish", which is first cousin to a couch potato. ;D

Dare I say I prefer Dunkin Donuts to Krispy Kremes? Tried the KKs a couple of times when they were first in this area and they were so sweet they made my teeth hurt.

Alas, now I can't have either one...ot Cinnabon sweet rolls or any of that good stuff :'(

patricia19

Callie, due to my food allergies, I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet which I'm not fond of, but I can't argue with success! So the majority of sweets are a no-no for me. Not that I was ever a sweets person. Now red meat, diary & cheese, potatoes of any type, and biscuits and gravy are my go-to and, unfortunately, have moved into that no-no realm.

Okay, if you're a recliner radish, then couch surfing must be a more common slang, and it's certainly common with me!  ::)

I don't crave sweets as much as salt.... but do love 'em. Amy, my daughter would follow you to the end of the earth for maple donuts... and they are not for me. I tried making Mother's Bavarian cream one time... she used it in her banana pies, too.... but mine was a total failure. I am not a person that can just cook from a recipe, I have to see it put together before copying.

Patricia, I put a big legal size warning to NOT open the door to our back bathroom when we made the move from the house we built to the one in KC area. "Nothing in here to move".. I was hauling the 2 birds/ cages & my jewelry box & stuff that came from my parents, all in a sterio box, not big one but about 10" deep & 24"x24". 2 birdcages sat on the vanity & the half moon parrot screeched every time one of the packers opened the door, so I'd go back to see what & why they were opening it. After they left & did in a hurry, said they had a meeting, I packed up my van & the trailer I was pulling with all my art supplies (they couldn't haul ANY of my art stuff), I took a shower & Cloroxed both bathrooms & we headed to KC at night so my van wouldn't blow up in the 100 degree temps. After getting some sleep (unloaded birds first) I realized that box holding jewelry box (even had our wedding rings in).. was MISSING. After refusing to let them pay for the stuff (I had photos of all the jewelry but some things cannot be replaced), I realized why the parrot had screamed.... they were sneaking that box out & thought it was a new sterio! To make a long story short, they had unlatched the window & screen & the day they were to have had to take a lie detector test, the real estate lady called to say they found the box in the bathroom. This was more than a month later! Guessing they got in the open screen & unlatched window & put it back. Was no way it had been there all along. The jewelry was all tangled up, I opened the box with the next door neighbor to witness.

All that tale to warn you to put a bell or something on that door, along with a sign, so they don't open & poor Farrah would race out the open balcony (like old LaurenKat did in CO) and be hiding from the world. I still feel bad about Lauren & hope she didn't have long to live without the life she knew.

I'm sopping wet, put the mattress pad, sheets, comforter, & top sheet the cats lay on along with their beds & cages (it's a king size bed).. thermometer inside said it was 100 degrees & I had to do a lot of back & forth tucking everything in. Wanted to get done before rain moves in. Looks like it could hail & don't trust that roof over the slide. All done & now I'm about done with a big pot of spaghetti. Was out in my freezer so time for more. Smells good. Meat sauce done & so am I........... :P

I do send sympathy for any of you having to give up sugar...or starches. Not sure my willpower is strong enough. Must say that I admire changing your diets & know I should... that "BUT" (not to be mistaken for butt) gets in the way. Oh, my, sat here long enough to be stiff. If I stay awake long enough I'll check in tonight.

Shirley, one of my friends had some work done at her house.  Apparently, the guy in charge had hired workers "off the street" and one of them had unlocked a window and raised it just enough to get fingers under it. Fortunately, she discovered it right after they left. She was sure whoever had done it intended to come back and rob her.

I consulted a diabetic dietician after being diagnosed with "mild" diabetes 15 years ago.  (Not "borderline" diabetic; Doctor said you can't be a "little bit" diabetic any more than you can be a "little bit" pregnant  :) ).
She gave me a "managed" carbohydrate food plan (NOT a "diet) that allows me to eat anything I want to as long as I stay within the carb gram limit per day that she "assigned" me.  It was based on my diagnosis and physical build so wouldn't be the same for everyone.  She also said a little bit of real sugar is better than a lot of the substitutes, which can cause diarharea (sp?) if too much is used.
Took me about a year to get to the point of automatically knowing how many grams certain things had - but I got blood sugar under control - lost weight - and have done just fine without shots or meds ever since.
Biggest issue was/is the amount of certain foods (like donuts, pasta, etc.) that I can have is so small that it isn't worth the effort.  So I have learned to do without....although I grumble about it.

I was also diagnosed with diverticulosis (the condition - not the disease) and told to "figure out what bothers you - and don't eat it".  The first thing was raw vegetables and I haven't had a salad in about ten years.  One friend said, "I wouldn't know what to do without my salad every day".  I told her she would learn to do without it if she got rolling intestinal cramps every time she ate one!

I do like salty snacks and was delighted when lab work showed I was low in sodium and doctor said, "Eat more salt".  Couldn't believe I was actually supposed to eat something "everyone" is told to stay away from!!!!

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Evening and pleasant dreams.

Shirley

Callie, first time I realized you could make a choice in how much sugar or starch was when I offered my neighbor a piece of apple pie I'd just made (getting ready for a garage sale) and she said she could have the apple pie or a baked potato with her supper. Don't remember which she chose, but I thought how hard it would be to debate every amount of food like that. I expect is becomes a habit, right?

My daughter (Crohn's Disease with several surgeries behind) was told to NEVER use any sugar substitutes, sugar not as harmful in her case.  I went a year without any salads or fresh fruit and managed to get back to tolerating some. Do not eat peelings on apples or tomatoes, feel like I'm pampering myself but gotten away with no serious bouts in a long time. We both watch how nuts affect us, I can't tolerate almonds but okay with walnuts & pecans. So it is. I've never had a doctor tell me to eat salt but I'm convinced there's time my body needs more. My mother was an Adele Davis fan so I grew up with all her teachings. Main thing that stuck in my mind was that you had to "listen to your body & most often it will tell you if you NEED certain foods". I'm healthier than I deserve to be, I guess.

Got my dumpster out to the street, meant to trim a tree but didn't get the job done, so dumpster not even half full. Oops... weather thingy just dinged & we have a storm moving into our county.. checked radar & looks wicked. Tom is out but I let Callie in the garage & Tiger is in the basement. Hope it doesn't blow the dumpster over by the street, don't like my trash blowing in the wind. :'(  :tearhair:

Good morning..

Another brisk morning here, 52° will go to 67°, I like that!

Not sure if today will see me go to the lumber yard for more material for a trug or not. Folks are coming to see the ones already made to chose one.

Baking "may" get done today will see how the day goes.

Long weekend here and roads will be like a can of worms, same with the stores.

Shirley, I once met a man that had to decide if he ate or drank. He had his esophagus shortened and stomach brought up that it sat in his chest cavity so it was one or the other to have.

Better get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Mornning Everyfriend!  (And also Good Night).  Frankie spent the night and we were both so tired last night that we fell asleep where we were sitting.  I decided that it was time to hit the haystack and let "stuff" wait for today.

I read all that information about everyone's diets and eating habits and I decided that it's a good thing I don't have to do that...yet!  I'm not very good at keeping up with good habits and doing what's good for me.  Congratulations to all of you for doing what's necessary to make life good!  You deserve an A+ in my book!

I think I'm going to make an early run to Davy's today.  I'm in need of some stuff that I can get there and this afternoon I have clean stuff to return to the church when the door is open.  They asked for volunteers to wash some of the robes that are used in services and I volunteered.  I sometimes feel like I'm not doing my bit at the church any more and this is something I can do at home on my own time.

I also have MORE tomatoes!  My neighbor left a bag on the bag porch and my vines are starting to yield.  I think I just start getting them ready for spaghetti sauce.  I can clean them as they become available, freeze them and when I have enough, make and can the spaghetti sauce.  My Italian MIL always made her spaghetti sauce with pork...ground pork for the meatballs and slices of pork in the sauce for flavor.  When the sauce was done, the slices of pork got slivered and ended up on the plate with the noodles.  And she made the noodles herself.  I don't do that because you can get homemade noodles at the Mennonite stores around here.

The washer is in it's last spin so I'll wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  And I'll get on with my day.

P.S.  Temp went down into the low 50s overnight (I wore a jacket to take Cooper for his walk) and it's only going to the low 70s today!  In fact, it's not predicted to get out of the 70s all week!

Goodness if it gets cooler at night I will have  to get a heat er to warm up when I get out of bed. 53 now and I did get my warmer robe out yesterday, so glad I did, the light summer one would not work at all. Maybe should get myself an ole granny flannel nightgown for the winter this year. I was warm and cozy before I pushed to covers off and they I could not get my robe on fast enough.
Son Mike was here late afternoon yesterday and brought me some tapioca pudding and some perogies he and my DIL made yesterday. I know what I will have later today, might even share with Yvette since she will fry  them up for me.

AMY  my favorite Dunkin Donut is a filled lemon one that they don't make anymore around here, say there was no interest in them.

SHIRLEY  Mike was  telling me when he was here yes terday that his  tomatoes are finally starting to ripen. I know when we had our gardens that when the days started get ting cooler and shorter we ha a lot  of tomatoes ripen, that was when I really started canning them.

PHYLLIS  never had a Krispy Kreme, never made it t o this s tat e. We jus t got r ain here, son said he had 4 1/2 inches in his gage. In Newbedford, Mass. they had almost 10 inches. That cit y in along the ocean, years back was a whaling city. We did have the usual floooding in the same places and low areas on some highways, few  trees down, not many, mostly along the southern part of the state. Just saw on news that another hurrican is forming in the Atlantic. 9th storm of the season. Don' t remember that many before.

PATRICIA  glad  they will start replacing windows now rather then in October when it can get cold.

CALLIE  after reading how sweet the KK's are I am glad I never tried one. I love those cinnabons. Going into some of the bigg malls as soon as walking in that aroma from  them makes me want one right away.

I am told these days  to eat more-is that lucky? Might be for someone else but so may foods I enjoyed now just don't even look tempting. I just  have no appetite except  for sweets and I do not let  myself eat more than 2 cookies or small piece of candy but
let me get my hands and a spoon on a container of ice cream and I would eat the whole  thing. I do have cereal every morning but could go the rest of the day with eating nothing.

JANE  I made a big pot of spaghetti sauce last  year from  tomatoes from both sons. I still have 2 containers in the freezer. For my meatballs I buy  the mix of beef pork and veal, nice flavor and I will add a couple of mild sausage links I get from one market  where the owner makes them himself.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Callie, you had a very alert doctor to diagnose your diverticulosis. Unfortunately,  I wasn't so lucky and went into full acute diverticulitis.  After several surgeries, a long hospital stay and time in intensive care I was left with no colon.  That was 30 years ago and I've adjusted to it pretty well.  I have flare-ups and had one just recently so have had to go back to watching what I eat very carefully.  No raw vegetables, no spicy foods, NO corn, no nuts, seeds, etc. and chew, chew, chew.  But, it is what it is and I've lived with it this long so shouldn't complain.  (Though, sometimes, I do.)

Beautiful morning here and cool with low humidity.  Just wonderful.  All is going pretty well with us.  David, my son, had two root canals yesterday but feels good this morning with no pain so that is a good thing.  I can breathe a sigh of relief....until the next doctor's appointment, at least.   ::)

Take care, All.

Good morning from the Interior! I had many symptoms for my current allergies, which I ignored for years. I believed I had mild diverticulosis, diary issues, and cases of constipation and diarrhea from the diary issues, getting older, or my 2000 colon cancer.

I didn't have the information, and neither did the doctors I went to. I have one friend who had similar issues and was told he had anxiety! It turned out to be stomach cancer which he survived luckily! Either the doctors or we are not communicating or understanding.

While I miss many of my favorite foods and habits, I feel so much better physically, have gone several months without hospitals and analeptic shock, and my hair, skin, and nails are better than they've ever been. An anti-inflammatory diet is plant-driven and rarely includes red meat, black tea, or alcohol.

It includes white meat, fish, dairy, grains, green tea, and coffee; thank you for coffee! I do not eat any convenience foods, processed foods, or microwavable foods. I eat as people did before all these convenient chemicals "enhanced our foods and preserved their shelf life."

Good Afternoon Everyone!

It is a beautiful warm to cool day
here on the rocky coast of Maine.

Adele Davis..  I remember reading her
books...

Today I eat what I call a diet that
is good for my gall bladder.  In which
what I eat does not make it flare up.

I used to think that dairy was my problem
but it was more higher fat in foods.

Now I eat low fat,  low sodium, which leaves
me with damn little to eat,  very little dairy
except I can eat non fat yogurt.  Which I
love and which is a staple of mine
right now along with Chai Tea, Almond Milk
and Stevia.  fresh fruit and veggies and
chicken thighs and Tilapia Fish.

Low to no sodium  or
potassium is the hardest for me....

But eating this way is what my body likes.

Good luck to all of you If I at everything that
I wanted to I would be hundreds of pounds
over weight and probable not living at all.

I am off to have some Tilapia for lunch.

Sandy.
