I just discovered a quote by my favorite philosopher, Nietzsche.

"There are no beautiful surfaces without a terrible depth."

Made too much chili con carne and was on my way to the neighbours with a big bowl for them, when her hubby yelled at me. He came to the fence and said not 10 min ago a black bear crossed  the road, maybe 150 feet from us. Said he scooted off into the woods and was a good size. Jesse was barking but I thought he was just barking to come in but now I think it was about the bear.  Won't be putting feed out for the birds now :(

My FIOS(Internet connection) service went completely out Wednesday night with the super heavy rain we had. Just got it back this afternoon. They changed all the related equipment as this is the newer stuff and as long as they had to come out to fix it they just changed it.
Wednesday night what was left of IDA dropped several inches an hour on us. Most roads were flooded and closed but there were those who tried to go through it - today, no car for them. This City is hilly and there were several retaining walls that collapsed due to the rain. Also a couple of homes that either shifted or had foundation damage. A few deaths in the area (County). Sudden water flooding basement apartments.
I left my house at 3:30 Thursday afternoon thinking I could go for a visit 20 minutes away. Never made my destination and couldn't get back home till 5:30. Seems all roads lead to flooded areas. Little to no traffic advisories. People who were at work and probably trying to get home were just driving in circles trying to find a way, but everything was blocked / flooded.
Our local Fire Departments have been pumping out basements round the clock. A well done to them.
Anyway, good to have the computer, TV, and Phone back.  Actually our "Smart TV" (Samsung) was able to pick up the "over the air" stations. Not a good selection, but something.

Well, I only got about half of what I had planned for today actually done.  Busy morning, getting Cooper fed and walked and Frankie off to work.  Then I took a break and had my first REAL cup of coffee and some breakfast.

I finished everything I started but I didn't start enough stuff!  I still have the tomatoes to deal with and some outside cleaning up to do.  I did get my trip to Davy's in so the groceries are ok.

And I got all the church laundry done but not delivered to the church.  I couldn't find anyone to let me in and our office person is on vacation.  But they did say there's nothing they need for this Sunday.

Oh well, tomorrow's another day!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

well we had a nice rain, was needed. my trip to VA thought me I was not warring my Mask properly. I was putting it full face and under the chin, they said the bottom of the Mask should just be on the chin just below the lower Lip. I did  that last night and rested better. I am going to do the same In just a few Min. so good Night and sweet dreams. Hope to see you all in the Morning.

I'm falling asleep in my chair so will head to bed after another look at radar. We have some rain moving in, never know what will come with it this time of year. Will go let CallieCat come in the garage, some day I will get the garage cleaned completely, she just doesn't get the practice of using litter boxes & I don't have the heart to make her stay out when she knows she is safe in.

Been a steamy day in Kansas, few tasks done but never enough. The mind is kinda blank tonight.

Rick, wondered how you were doing with all that rain. My daughter is visiting her daughter & family in VA, close to DC. She's loved the cooler weather but rain has cut back some of the sight seeing they enjoy. Glad you are safe. I've gone to NO cable at all, get the local stations for news & shows, plus plenty of the oldies shows & westerns to keep me satisfied.

I hear thunder & need to open the garage door for Callie. Sweet dreams to all.......Shirley

Good Morning everyone, well according to the tattle tail, I got 7 Hours of sleep. I do not feel like It though. I think I am going to go to the couch  and get a move on and watch it and listen to the gentile rain we are getting fall. It was thunder and Lightning short while ago but has settled down to Light rain. see you all Later.

Gloria

Good morning everyone 54 this AM and might hit 70 later this morning. The panel in the foyer where visitors push the numbers of apartments so we can let them in is not working. Has no worked for a week now. Latest on it is they cannot find the part to fix it anywhere. Now people have to call us on their cell phones-IF they have one and we have to go down and let them in.Big pain in the neck. Why not put in a whole new panel. No, the witch likes to make things hard for us. Bill gets here every Saturday around 10:30 and I went to sleep last night knowing I would not be able to sleep late so here I am at 5am. Way too early for me to be awake. Oh well I can have a nap after he leaves or this afternoon.

PATRICIA  glad they will do the windows/doors not in October. Would be kind of cold then to have nothing to keep the cold air out.

CALLIE  20 years ago the doctor I had tole me I was diabetic. Did not surprise me because my Mother passed it on to my siblings. I went on line looking it up and what to eat and things like that. 1/2 cup of pasta? Why bother. I watched what I ate and finally got a different doctor. got my files from the one I fired and he told me I was never diabetic or even borderline. Now the local doctor I have  says I am no where being a diabetic.  I had 2 sisters die from pancreatic cancer and they were taking shots every day for the diabetis.

LLOYD  I always feel like I need more sleep when I get up in the mornings lately. One friend asked it I want to sleep my life away.

PATRICIA  food we make does not have those darn preservatives. I have been very fussy with the chicken my CNA buys for me. I do not want those big ones that are fed hormones to make them bigger, rather have small ones, might be "skinny" but at least they are natural.

SANDY  you make mw wish I liked fish. A couple of times a year I do like fish & chips all fried and greasy and I know that is not the kind of fish I should eat.

AMY  there has been black bear sitings in this town, someone even got a picture of one. We used to go walking in the woods when my 3 were young, no more doing things like that. Cannot go far around this state without getting into woods.

RAMMEL  this state-Rhode Island- got a lo t of rain in some areas from Ida. Some roads buckled from all the rain and yesterday on TV they showed the highway department getting all the pavement picked up and put into trucks then they had to put in new roads in a few places. Mostly in the southern part of the state.

JANE  looks like you will have to take the church laundry with you when you go to church tomorrow.

Think I'll go get my breakfast ready. Getting hungry.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning..

Foggy here this morning, temp is 47°.

The folks came to pick up their trug with their El Camino, fire engine red and purred like a kitten!! Needless to say we loved looking over this vehicle that they had restored.

Today may go for more lumber and laundry  will be done.

Gloria, the neighbour is waiting on a part for her Jeep and it may take months to get! She is not alone in waiting for this part about 52 others have the same problem.

Patricia, the one thing I am hearing most from people that buy trugs is that they want fresh vegetables without all the chemicals on them.

Rick ,we saw the flooding and devastation that it caused on the news. So many people now without homes to go back to.

Jane. I am going to wait till after this holiday to get at the potatoes. A few beets to do and that is it.

Shirley, do you have anything left in your trug?

Sandy, I love fish just as long as you cook the wiggle out of it. No sushi for me!

Lloyd, enjoy your movie..

Best get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up and attem this morning.  Cathy told me yesterday that she might go to one of my favorite Mennonite stores this morning and I'm going to go with her.  so I got up and got my shower and got dressed first thing.  Frankie won't be around today because she's going down to Maryland to visit her mother for the weekend....Cooper too.

If we go to Wenger's, I'm going to try to put together what I need to make spaghetti sauce for canning.  I can get the meatballs done ahead of time and that will save me some time.

RAMMEL, good you didn't get stuck anywhere when you were out in the bad weather.  It rained hard here but I don't live near enough to any waterways to get it in my immediate area so I stayed home.

GLORIA, I can't take the robes when I go to church because I'm going to have to make two trips with them if I want to keep the clean and unwrinkled.  I have a little car and a lot of robes!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

We finally got enough rain to do some good.... rain gauge shows about an inch (I think). Still dribbling a little & too dark to make sure. Cats had their breakfast & sitting out under the "overhang", can't really call it a porch. Callie wanted her breakfast served in the garage so I obliged.

Amy, I do still water & baby the tomato plants in the trug. Not sure what kind they are but are size of cherry tomatoes, sweetest I've ever tasted but because my tummy doesn't like the peelings, not much left to eat when peeled. That's why I give most to #1 son, he's loving them like candy. I still have a couple more from my sister.

I'm feeling bad for the folks that set up for the Farmer's Market today, looks like a steady stream of rain moving in for the morning & it only stays open till noon. For some this is their only outlet & the veggies can't hold off until next week, so they will hurt. I have the sliding door open (screen is closed) but it is NOT cool here, almost steamy. Eyes are itching really bad so the ragweed must be getting ready for Prime Time! Have a little goldenrod around here but not as much as in MO.

Gloria, so many parts not available around here, too.... and makes one uneasy to think how much we depend on those parts & things from other countries. Makes me remember a teacher back during WWII era that mentioned how "WE had sent raw materials to Japan & Germany and they sent it back as bombs". Back in those days it was okay for teachers to lecture kids about what was right & wrong. Now teachers can't do that, might hurt someone's feelings!

Got to go wash my eyes out & fix my breakfast, may be one of those mornings to get the extra zzzzzzzzzzs in and worry about jobs getting done when the rain stops. That darn pool needs some serious attention today. When Cas was alive we would pump all the water out this time of year, let the sun bleach the bottom a few days & refill, it would stay nice with minimum of labor & chemicals until we closed before the first hard freeze. With our well water it only took about 7 hours to fill & not much cost for running the pump, & I could still have the sliding door in the bedroom open at night for fresh air. When we have to use a lot of chemicals I can smell them (nose still works good), but will give in this year & do what it takes to clear that yellow algea up. Have I mentioned I really hate a pool???  ;)

Think fall, I'm loving hearing about cool weather. We haven't had any robins for at least 2 weeks & the ones that migrate thru haven't started yet. They come in different times & you can tell them apart, some have much lighter gray & others the darker red breasts. I don't have any pyracantha berries for them to eat anymore. The early travelers would swarm the bush & nearly strip it in a few hours.

Enough rambling, have a great day, everyone!

Good morning from the Interior! Yesterday was a beautiful day in the mid-seventies with only etchings of clouds. I was able to get everything on my list, and a few others were not there but jumped in my basket anyway. We had a few shortages, and there were signs listing restrictions on amounts but overall, not that many.

I receive emails from a site about coupons from stores in my area, and I can load them on my loyalty cards. I then make up a list on my Keep app that is only lists, not all those bells and whistles an app offers, and you never use. I saved 19%, $45.88, even though I shop the organic isles.

When I called the taxi company, I was told they were back to two, two, and a half-hour waits.  So, I appreciated the warmer weather. I was amazed that one taxi driver, letting off his passenger, an hour into my wait, asked another gentleman which cab company we were waiting on and me. After learning it was his, he called dispatch to find our wait time. He ended up taking both of us, so I saved an hour there.

I spoke to the manager yesterday about the new windows. It turns out that instead of going up and down for the balconies and front to back, they will be doing it one floor at a time, going around the building. I was surprised to learn they're not only taking out the living room's long narrow windows, but they're also putting in a sliding glass door with screens.

I have no idea about what will replace the same long narrow window in the bedroom. I start Monday, moving everything six feet away on both sides from the living room balcony door and windows and the bedroom window.

I did get the rescue remedy; thanks, Amy, for the reminder. However, I was shocked to see that pricers marked it $29.99 for 0.7 fluid ounces. I'm curious as to the prices in other areas. It's marketed under homeopathic, so you know management will jack prices.

When I first ended up in the emergency room in 2013 with this allergy, I was told it was one of the fastest-growing allergies due to all the chemicals in our food. My allergist says it's increased 40% in the past five to ten years, not just for children but all ages, especially the more vulnerable such as the very young and the seniors. It's similar to a bee sting in that you build up to it. And people may not realize what it is and blame all types of other reasons as I did.

Hi Phyllis!  :)

Amy

Phyllis I am with you....hate texting too.
Patricia, holey smokes that is expensive.....but it does work. I paid $19.00 plus tax  and when I inquired in the city it was $14.00 plus tax.

I know it works, I used it many years ago when it was found in health food stores and in a small yellow bottle that only gave drips when tilted.

Besides paying for insurance companies' higher freight costs for any product that has to travel over water to a site, we're also being charged for a specialty item. Alaska's freight cost is currently at 38% over the lower 48 states.

If you use a VPN to order online it masks your origin, and you can select a different place of origin to get a better price. People who regularly use airlines and other forms of transportation routinely do this for savings.

Amy

The one I bought did come in a little yellow box with 10 ml of liquid.
Other next door neighbour came over  to say that the bear was in his garage before the bear took off!! No more throwing food out for crow or the other birds now. Need to keep an eye out now when the dogs go out. Neighbour back of us has chickens  and he may want to keep an eye on them!

Hello Everyfriend!  I went to the Mennonite Store with my daughter today.  I didn't buy much but I got a couple things I needed and a couple things I can't get anywhere else.

When I came home, I cleaned, peeld and juiced the rest of the tomatoes that have been collecting.  I have about a gallon ready to turn into spaghetti sauce...maybe tomorrow or Monday.  Now, I'm tired and ready for a nap or maybe a walk.  I haven't really taken a walk today and maybe there's some mail down there in the mail box.

Haven to Home, which is a replacement service for pets in need of homes, had an ad in the paper yesterday and there was a doggie that (sort of) resembled my Annie.  I couldn't put it down and just as I was ready to put the paper in the recycling bin, I got a text from my daughter asking me if I'd seen the picture of another doggie in that ad and suggesting that I read the description of him.  It was so sad!  His owner passed away in April holding him in his arms and his family left him alone in the house with just someone to come care for him every 12 hours.  They did that for 2 months before calling Haven to Home.  I filled out an application today.  They won't even talk to you on the phone unless you fill out an application.  I don't know what might be in my future.

Let me add me third to those little prayers.

Amy that is an Alaskan-style storm. It wasn't uncommon pre-Covid to see several skiers slushing their way to work. Often they were bicyclists in the summer.

Amy

Patricia, then we share the same storms! I have watched from the comfort of our home to not being able to see the road, it was snowing and blowing so bad. Just think what we have to look forward to  :2funny:

A good Saturday HELLO 👋

It has been a stressful week.....I am doing quite good......after all the horrible pain before my surgery that I have been dealing with for months, my pain is actually less.  I had PT twice this week and it has been more of a treat, than bad.  The sling is a miserable thing and when my PT is here she takes it off and moves my arm......very mild pain for the reward of having it moved for me🥰🥰. We were able to remove the cover on my incision yesterday......my would is a good sized one, but looks very good.  I will share the picture with anyone IF you would like to see it😘
The stress part of the week is Grandson Matt was hurt in football practice Monday night.  He was practicing with the varsity and a huge senior landed on his right leg.  Long story short.....they thought he tore his ACL and MCL (?) but a MRI  on Thursday showed just a slight ACL tear with some bone issue, but he will not need surgery🙏😩. Of course he is out for the season and very disappointed.  He was first string JV and backup Varsity...... They expect him to be ready for ski season and the start of lacrosse.  This old grandma thinks...."don't do any of these dangerous things.....just take care of that precious body"!  Of course I keep my mouth shut......haha.

There are many posts that I just read, but can not remember what I wanted to comment on.  I will go back and read them all again.

Take care and enjoy your holiday weekend‼️

JENNY, so good to hear that you are healing and on the road to using your arm again but not such good news about your grandson.  I was always glad that my sons and grandsons got the talls from their family and went in for things like basketball and track and stayed away from football.  I hope he heals quickly and thoroughly.

I'M NOT READY FOR SNOW...NOT EVEN IN PICTURES!

Around here you can still only get the Rescue Remedy in the health food store but the price is only around $8. so I'm better off than you are.

I'm going to hit the haystack a bit early tonight because I want to make sure I get to church tomorrow morning.  I've missed the last two Sundays and I don't want to miss tomorrow.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Shirley

I do/did appreciate the snow storm, Amy, thank you for the treat. I actually got "goose bumps" as it started. This heat is so depressing to me, I just wilt, melt, want to cry. I've always loved rain, thoroughly enjoyed our years in England because we were in a "rainy spell" those years. I remember commenting that "we had 3 days without a fire in the fireplace the whole year". And I loved it.

Patricia, looking at those peaceful snow scenes puts me in a different frame of mind. Seriously I feel calm & happy. We'll see what this winter brings, maybe get more than we bargained for since all weather has been whacky for the last couple years. I still have not found the Old Farmer's Almanac, but did a Google & Walmart is supposed to have them. Walmart, here I cum!

Jenny, glad you are doing so well. I agree about having "my kids" & grands being out there getting bammed around! Sorry about Matt being out for the season but (whisper-whisper), at least he won't get hurt any worse & the year off will give his bones a chance to get stronger!

Jane, any chance your kids & grands could call the Haven to put a bug in their ear just what a great life that pup would have with you?  Hope everyone you know gives them an ear full of all your charms. WE all know you should be first in line.  :dog4:

I'm heading to bed early, have been so tired today I didn't get anything done. Wishing all sweet dreams & God Bless. Another 3 day week end will push me over the edge & haven't recovered from the last holiday. Not sure why it messes with my head, but for sure I will have to check (& be off) each day.

Hopefully this will link correctly.  The vid by a loal small News Site.  This guy gets some great local news stories, and because we are so close to NYC we don't usually get much local reporting unless it is the biggest story of the day in the Metropolitan Area. This is some of the flood "stuff" from IDA.  There is a second one I'll post if this one posts OK.
