Well, I'm still going to the salon whenever I need a "serious" haircut!  I'm not quite there yet, but the bangs portion was down past my brows, and that is a definite "no-no" for me.  So, into the bathroom I go after my shower/shampoo, put newspaper in the sink, grab a comb and scissors, bam, no bothersome bangs.  I did this once before and it worked okay, but today I cut a bit shorter.  Have what the British refer to as a "fringe".  By the time it grows out, I will be ready to visit my hairdresser.  She will be thrilled $$.

CallieOK

Good Evening,

I've continued to go to the hairdresser regularly.  Still hold a mask over my mouth/nose while she's right above me at the shampoo station but don't always keep it on during blowdrying/curling.  We're both vaccinated and her station is far enough from the others that I feel safe.

I was up, dressed, had the bed made and the garage door open before 6:00 a.m. this morning.  I saw the first roofer vehicle pull up at exactly 6:15 - and they got right to work on both buildings.  Reason I made my bed was our solar lights were being replaced and installers would have to come into my bathroom.  They arrived about 8:30.

It was a long day but not as noisy as I expected - although the tap tap tapping meant no napping.  I did enjoy sitting near my front window reading and watching the action. Couldn't have gone anywhere if I'd wanted to because driveway was blocked with a huge trash cart.

Not a speck of trash could be seen when they pulled out about 5:30 p.m. They even used a big magnet on a pole (looked like a mop) to go over every inch of the yard/sidewalks and street to pick up stray nails.

Enough excitement for this gal!  I plan on having a leisurely day tomorrow.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have Pleasant Dreams.  (Hope you did sleep well and had pleasant dreams, Jackie.

Oh i have lost count the times i cut my own hair over the years but, my MS nerve damage right hand now wont let me although i often do cut my fringe but i cant get my hand doing the back of me....

Just a note to let you know: in an hour time I will turn the computer off and will be unavailable for the next 30 or so hours. I'll be fasting for our Yom Kippur.  So if I don't answer you'll know why, it is not ignoring you :)

Beverly

Bubble - Yom Tov.......Have an easy fast.

Beverly

Good morning from Florida!

Life has its ups and downs but lately ours has more downs than ups.

The ups are my three new great-grandchildren. They are beautiful and I get daily pictures, videos and updates. The twins are still in the hospital. They were transferred from NICU to the "transition" room. Recently they set Brynn up in a private room where she can be with the babies 24/7. James is doing well and nearly ready to be discharged. Beverly still has digestive issues. She vomits at least once a day and still has tube feeding. The doctors say this is normal for a preemie and it will get better. I sure hope so! She is healthy otherwise and is now over 6 lb.

Keani is now 8 wks. old and growing! So cute!

The downs are our health. The NTM (non-tubercular mycobacterium) has been making me feel ill a lot and unable to do much. Chape gave me a scare with low blood oxygen but the C-Pap is helping that. He's had kidney disease for years and it's beginning to look like he'll have to be on dialysis.

It's such a big help to have Donna living close by. She's coming over soon to run an errand for me and pick up my grocery shopping list.

Another down is our daughter, Lauri, (grandmother to the new babies) came down with Covid, probably the Delta variant. She was vaccinated 8 months ago with the Phizer vaccine. She was very sick for about two weeks. She now tests negative but has a "croupy" cough and wheezing. We're hoping this won't be a long term effect.

I need to get my list ready now, but will try to get back with some comments later. (minus doom and gloom!)

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Beverly, Ellen was a preemie (9 weeks early) and, although I don't remember her being in a "transition room", I do remember that she and her parents spent the night before she went home in a room by themselves near the NICU.  A really good idea to give them a bit of experience while professionals were there to help and advise.

Good that Lauri now tests negative - and hoping that her cough/wheezing go away soon.  Don't know about pollen allergies in your area - but in this one, it could be hard to tell which is which.

So sorry about your and Chap's health issues.  This "Aging Process" is sometimes scary and most times just plain annoying....IMHO.

Bubble, am sure I missed wishing you an Easy Fast before you turned off your computer.  So I'll wish you a Good Yom Kippur for when you come back.

I'm getting started on "leisurely" taking care of post-roofing Domestic Duties.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Beverly:   You've had more than your share of health issues to deal with this month!    Both you and Chape, with serious problems,  plus the expected issues with the preemie twins!  Sounds like James, will be going home soon, and I'll be hoping that little Beverly will follow within a few days.

Sorry about your daughter Lauri, getting Covid, even though she was vaccinated.   I can relate to that problem, as my granddaughter Ashley, has had a bad case of Covid/Delta Variant, and has been very sick.   She also had been fully vaccinated, with the Moderna vaccine, in March.  Her daughter,  my great-grand, age 13, came down with it first, and was also very sick.  She had not yet been vaccinated.   Obviously Ashley caught it from her daughter, but I wonder WHY, as it had only been six months since her shot?    It seems that people are getting a lot sicker, a lot faster, from the Delta/Variant.

Anyway, I will be thinking about you and Chape and your whole family, and sending prayers and good wishes your way!

GOOD MORNING. We had a
cool morning with a bit of a nip in the air🍂🍁

It has been a busy week.  Monday I went to my surgeons office.  They took X-rays and my new shoulder looks good to them‼️  They removed all of the bandages and liked how my wound looks. We discussed my left hip pain more and they want me to go see the surgeon that did my hip replacement back in 2011. As far as they can tell from the X-ray taken in March, the prosthetic looks good, but they see a lot of degeneration in my lower back and fear that is what causing the hip pain😩😩 I will see hip man next week and find out what he thinks.

We became the new owners of a beautiful sectional sofa yesterday afternoon. I love it, but Bob thinks it is just too big for our area😩😩 We got it from our son and DIL that are moving out of state.

My PT had to cancel this morning.  I will see her Friday.  I will miss her not gently moving my arm as it feels so good.

BEVERLY, good to hear a report on the babies😘🙏. Sorry to read of the "downers"😩😩

I was able to get my hair cut last week.....unfortunately, I am not real pleased with the cut, but at least it is manageable for Bob to help me keep it down😆

Our AR DIL was confirmed with Covid this week so the 3 of them are quarantined. ....she has been vaccinated and does not feel bad at all.  She is a middle school RN. Half the school is out with Covid😡

Enjoy your day.

Just a quick note this afternoon:

I received my US verison of The Guardian's Environmental newsletter this afternoon. I am sorry to see it reported that a youngster recently submitted a dead Spotted Lantern Fly at his school science fair. He had found outside his home and was able to identify it. It raised hairs at the USDA and, I would expect, the Kansas state agricultural department. This will also raise alarm bells among orchardists and garden centers. While the article stated that the insect had been thought to be no farther than Pennsylvania, I saw a recent map showing that part of Ohio has been infected. I just checked the net and Indiana and Michigan are also now reporting sightings. If you see them, kill them and report the sighting to your state department of agriculture. BTW, they are more hoppers than flyers. Approach them from the front. It is easier to kill them because they can't hop backwards.

Marilyne

Today, I joined Jackie, Jenny and Callie,  for a much needed haircut!   I'm also not completely happy with the results  . . . not short enough!  I wanted to be able to blow dry it for a few weeks, before having to style the ends with a curling iron, but I doubt it will work this time.  Not important over the long haul . . . time moves along so quickly these days, that little things like that don't matter as much as they used to.

MarsGal -  sorry to hear that the Spotted Lantern Fly, has made another appearance.  So far, I haven't heard anything about it here in California.  If it's not here already, I'm sure sure it will be arriving soon.  We have year around agriculture here, so the perfect environment for unwanted insects and other pests.

Jenny -  How nice that you inherited such a nice sectional sofa from your son and dil!   How soon will they be leaving for California?   You said San Francisco area, so I'm wondering if they will be working in the tech/computer industry, here in Silicon Valley?

Looks like time to start thinking about fixing dinner.  AJ went to Costco today, and brought home a large cut of salmon, so that will be nice for a change.

Jenny - Callie - Marilyne...if i find a good hair salon that does our hair to our liking, i will let you all know and we will be first in that queue to book that appointment for next time around...
...Marilyne, yes you are right, ( these little things dont really matter, )  as its not that i go anywhere special to show my hair off, so i can live with it till my next haircut...but if we are pleased with our cut - style, it does make us feel a tad better - and more confidant, doesn't it..

Carol

Yahoooooooo!  I "found you"!   You mentioned the shot - I had a late appointment at the University of Colorado medical center.  They took me and my hubby (he was going to try to get into the VA.  Our daughter mentioned it might be good to try to get Don's 3rd. shot as well. Not everyone shows up for their appointment - so, Don got his third shot.  How inconsiderate that so many make appointments and never show.  It was great for us to get something so convenient and quick. Now to find the regular flu shot.

Jenny:  So sorry to read about your medical issues.

Hoping all of you are well and coping with the the "new normal" (whatever that can be).

It has been such a long time since I posted.  Everything is good here in our area but just not much to post.  There have been several deaths in Larry's extended family----several due to covid and several due to just bad health.  Larry's niece called me so much last couple of months she said she hated that her calls were always bad news.  However, she keeps us informed on Larry's large extended family.  My extended family is very small.

Beverly, I'm sorry to hear about your bad health.  How fortunate your daughter is close by.  I'm glad our daughter is just a few blocks away.

Jenny I've been glad to read that you are doing so much better regarding your shoulder.

Marilyne, We've been having plenty of rain and sure wish we could share it with you.  I thought of you when I read of that earthquake but I don't believe it was near you.

Jackie, You sound so much happier in your new home.

I enjoy reading your posts but I'm a bit lazy when it comes to posting.  We have been sticking close to home except for groceries but think we are going branch out and include the local library in the coming week.  A couple of my favorite authors had new books published this year.

I've enjoyed all your posts.

FlaJean ( Jean ) you have been missed, i am so happy seeing a long awaited posting from you UK 5.40am...i am up with my first of my mornings mug of tea at my side...Yes i am so much happier here, i am throwing myself into everything church, otherwise i would be stuck inside here by myself every day literally going nowhere, seeing nobody...this has become a very lonely life for me now to the life i once had not too many years ago, and now dealing by myself with my deteriorating Primary Progressive MS disease...But this is what it is, nothing stays good forever..i had it too good for so long...

I am saddened to hear of your " many " family deaths, albeit on your hubby's side, and several due to Covid...but glad to hear you are alright...just wish you would pop in and post a little more, you are missed  stay safe..

Jean! -  What a pleasant surprise to see your message here this morning.   I think about you often, always hoping that all is well in Niceville.   Sorry to see that see that there have been so many deaths and illnesses in Larry's family.  It does seem like whenever we get a phone call from a relative we haven't heard from in a long time, that it is never good news.   Same situation here.

I hope your grandson Jason's wife and children, are doing as well as can be expected?  Maybe when the children get a little older, she will take a vacation and visit your son and dil, as well as you and Larry.  Wondering about your daughter in BC, and how she and her family are doing there, as well as your son and his wife?

Things are about the same here.  Time goes by so quickly, and AJ and I  try to keep up as best we can.   Please write again, whenever you have a  moment.  Also hope to see you in the Library Bookshelf, folder.  Let us know what books you're reading, and any TV shows or movies to recommend.

Hi Jean, I am glad to see you posting. My condolences all around for the many deaths in your extended family lately.

I thought we had taken care of the critter under the porch problem, but no, it came back. For some reason I have the old song, The Cat Came Back on rewind playing in my head. It managed to dig down to the bottom of the chicken wire, which was dug down deeper than the porch skirting, and pushed its way in. Grrr!

Now, today, the sewer guy came out to check my line. Lo and behold, the tree roots seem to have disappeared and in their place are rocks and some kind of pipe laying in there now. The old iron pipe section is not collapsed but I have no clue whatsoever how what looks like rocks and pipe got in there. So now I have to get the thing reamed out and plastic lined. Fortunately with the new contraptions they have, The yard does not get dug up except at the top and bottom so they can run the "steel head" whatever with the plastic pipe attached behind. The steel head pushes all the detritus out and lays the pipe behind. Will be interesting to watch. Will take one day. I will not need the road dug up, so the township will not have to be notified, not to mention not having to pay the $2000 township fee for messing with the traffic and road surface. Nevertheless, it will end up being close to $15,000. Tomorrow I will be calling my insurance agency to see how they want to handle it. I have an outside pipe rider on my policy so it should be covered, minus deductible. I also have to see if they want estimates from other contractors. I swear ever since the house became aware that I was seriously considering moving, it has been throwing curve balls at me. And I bet you thought houses were inanimate objects! Well the whole thing just made my day go splat! I am going to go hide in a book the rest of the afternoon.

It is a lovely day today, and tomorrow should be the same, if a little bit, Yea!, cooler. Backyard will get mowed then.

Been watching the video clips of the volcano eruption in the Canary Islands. Impressive.

A good Thursday HELLO to ALL 🍂🍁

Things have settled down here a bit, so I feel like maybe I can concentrate enough to write a post🤪🤪

I have been reading your posts and thinking about you all.

JEAN, so pleased to see your message....you have been missed.  I am sorry to read about the deaths in Larry's extended family.

MARSGAL,  seems those critters can get through most anything we do to keep them out!   How frustrating for you.

I did not want to bore you with a lot, but I did want to say that a visit to the orthopedic surgeon that did my left hip and 2 knees 10 years ago was extremely thorough in making sure that these three prosthetics were in good shape and not the cause of my left hip pain.  He wants me to do physical therapy as he feels it is a soft tissue problem.  My current PT and I are going to meet at the community rec center with hopes that I can just do a little water walking to start.  I can not submerge my incision for another 3 weeks at the earliest, but at least this will give me some easy moving that I won't be fearful of falling.  This surgeon also commented on how degenerate my lower back is and that it very well might be the culprit to my pain.

I have been on the phone with our son who is trying to buy their next home, so I best get this posted NOW.  My best to you ALL 💐

Jenny

I'm still waiting on my deck to get painted and my new doors to come in. Now I have to deal with a sewer pipe repair and waiting on the go ahead from my insurance company.

It is very cool this morning, only 52oF. I am not ready to turn on the heat for the morning just yet.

Not sure what I want to get up to today. Always housework, need to make grocery list, maybe some yardwork later on.

Jenny, I hope the physical therapy does you some good. My sister has had it for her sciatica. It helped a lot, so she keeps up with her exercises at home and tries to keep active in the yard as much as she can.

A good Sunday HELLO  🍁🍂

Unfortunately, I am not going to do my water exercises until after the six weeks and I can remove my sling.  We drove to the rec center and Bob went in to check things out.  The "ramp" I remembered turns out to be 5 or 6 gradual steps about 6" high, and the water is 3 and a half feet deep.  Just a couple of weeks to wait, so all is good.

JACKIE, happy you enjoyed the visiting missionaries.  I bet they had a lot of interesting experiences.

MARSGAL, so frustrating to have to wait and wait for things to get completed....or maybe I should say STARTED.  Glad your sis had success with therapy for her sciatica.  That is miserable....one day soon I hope to get some relief.

Enjoy your day.  Hope more posters check in.....kind of lonely in here😩😪😍

Guilty me.  Communications has always been a problem with me. Enough that my employer would always send me when he had to send someone to a "Communications Work Shop".
I pay attention with interest when you talk about your surgery. I've had three shoulder jobs done with the surgeon stating after the last one "If it gets bad again we can always put in an artificial one". And I do know that even the operated on shoulder hurts for a while while all the lig's/tendons attach properly.
Good luck for a rapid heal.

This sewer thing is driving me nuts. I got approval from the insurance company and set up a repair date for this coming Tuesday. Yesterday, the guy that came out to paint the lines for the utilities in the late afternoon and at the last minute recommended that I should get the rest of the line done too. This is the bit from the house itself to the line going out to the main sewer. It is about 20 feet more and includes having to break up and dig down by hand, another $4K at least. Since it is also old iron pipe he figures that, although it wasn't checked with the video camera, it too will be in deteriorated condition. He was to send me a proposal for that bit so I could consult with my insurance adjuster, but didn't. As you might expect, I was a bit, shall we say, irritated that that was not brought up to begin with. It still won't address any problems the interior piping that is under the cement flooring in the basement. I am probably going to make him come out, pull the basement toilet and have him check the line.

Yesterday morning Shan got the runs, so I was already a bit on the anxious side by the time the above. If he isn't better today, I will have fight with him to get some Pepto Bismol into him. You can imagine what a mess he was with his long hair. Another fussy argument about that. I suspect a new food, a dry food food made to help with hairballs, is the culprit. Lucy, meanwhile, who wasn't very perky for the last four or five days, seems to have brightened up again.

I watch the volcano video in La Palma, among other things, which helps to remind me that there are people far worse off than me.

Marilyne

MarsGal -  Good morning to you, and to anyone else who may look into this folder today.   Sorry you're having so much grief with your sewer line - pipes, etc. Those of us with old houses eventually have problems with all those things that we've taken for granted over the years.  So costly, and such a long wait to get anything of that nature scheduled and taken care of.  I hope things work out for you, and that it is't one of those issues that gets more expensive as they find more things that need work.

Jenny - time passes so quickly now, that you will soon reach your six week mark, and be able to start the water therapy!   I did the water therapy a few year ago for sciatica, and I really enjoyed it, and felt that it was helpful and very relaxing.   The only thing I disliked, was struggling to get out of the wet bathing suit, when I got back to the dressing room!   If I ever do water therapy again, I will invest in a two piece bathing suit! LLOL!

Rick - Good to see you here, and hope your many shoulder surgeries have taken care of your problem!   Seems that so many of us old folks have shoulder problems!   AJ, can barely raise his right arm.  The ortho doc will not consider doing any surgery, once a patient gets up into their 80's,
so you adjust and learn to live with it.  He is still able to do lots of household tasks and also the car upkeep and repairs that he enjoys doing.

RAMMEL

Marilyne, tell AJ he's not alone. I can't raise my right arm much above shoulder height. It can go up, but I can't raise it with my arm muscle. So why do I have trouble changing a light bulb  :2funny:  It's a joke trying to do it left handed. Just can't work overhead any more. The legs are getting jealous and are starting to protest.

Beautiful day here but getting cooler. May need heat tonight or tomorrow so am busy cleaning our old cast iron steam radiators. Like to get all last winters dust out of them before turning on for this year.  Don't want that dust flying around, and better heating efficiency.
