Beverly

I've been on the outside looking in. I have good intentions but I seem to talk non-stop or say nothing. After a long spell of feeling really lousy, I'm having a good spell. Still very fatigued but not sick. Thank you everyone for your well wishes.

Hi Carol! Glad to see you posting. Now that you've found us, come back often!

Jean - I'm happy to see all is okay at your house. We were concerned about not hearing from you. I'm sorry to hear Larry lost some family members because of this virus.

Jenny - Having the water therapy will be a nice change. I hope your shoulder continues to improve. Has Bob adjusted to the new, larger sectional sofa yet?  :)

Callie - I was looking through some of my digital photos of the bashes and our lunch at Freddie's. There are some very nice photos of you!

Marilyne - How is your granddaughter now? I know from Lauri's reports how bad it can be. Lauri said she'd never been so sick before. Fortunately it didn't get into her lungs.

MarsGal - Wow! What a time you're having. The sewer problem alone would be enough but then the expense added to it! How is Shan doing now?

Jackie - Nice that you can keep busy with the church activities.

Rammel - I can't look up and reach over my head without getting vertigo and I no longer trust myself on a step-stool.

Tomreader - Smiling about you cutting your bangs into a "fringe". My hair is desperate for a cut. I can usually get in on short notice.

Bubble - Hope all is well with you. Haven't seen you since you posted before Yom Kippur.

Sandy - I know it's a relief to have all the shots done. I'm hoping New England doesn't have a hard winter.

Our twins are still in the hospital but hoping they'll go home soon. Brynn is still staying in the private room in Pediatrics with them.  Baby James is doing well and was officially discharged so he's "rooming in" with his sister and Mom. Baby Beverly has had digestive issues from the start and needed a feeding tube. Today they started a trial to see if she can get by without it. The trial is for three days. If she doesn't lose weight the tube will stay out and they can go home! It has been over six weeks.

Lauri tests negative for Covid but still has a croupy cough and headaches. She wants to go back to work but still doesn't have the "go-head" from the doctor. She works 12 hour days.

Beverley...
it is good coming in to seeing a post from you at 5.30 am ( UK ) you have been missed, and long may your " good spell " stay with you... :)

... would it not be possible to allow your Lauri to work a half shift...

... praying for baby Beverly NOT to lose weight...

Beverly, I am happy to see your nice, long message this morning.  I hope you and your family continue to improve.

Thanks for asking about Shan. It seems it was a once and done thing. I have no idea what caused it, but suspect a reaction to the new "hairball" food mix I mixed in with the regular dry food. I was trying to find a hairball treat or food mix that works. Right now they get those Greenie hairball treats, which they all like. Unfortunately, Shan often barfs up hairballs after he eats some which, of course, stain my rug green. What a pain. I am thinking of removing the old wall-to0-wall rug altogether and replacing it by either renewing the underlying hardwood floor, or having new laminate or hardwood panels installed. That will make it so much easier to clean up barfy messes. George had a some put in his house a while back and it was oh, so easy to wipe up accidents (even dried on ones) and it didn't get stained up. Nice cheap area rugs for accent that the cats can mangle and are easy to replace as needed suits me just fine. Wonderful topic for this morning.

The sewer repair is set for Tuesday, but so is light rain. I won't be surprised if they have to reschedule.

That little bugger is back! I successfully thwarted its' efforts to tunnel under my front porch on the driveway side, but now it has discovered a way in on the other side of the porch. It pulled the new lattice skirting away at an edge and broke through the old skirting. I still don't know for sure if this is the groundhog from the spring or something else. If it is, in fact, a groundhog, I am mightily surprised that I have not seen it in the yard, especially the backyard, during the day.

Sue informed me yesterday some (or most) of the family expects to converge on her house for Thanksgiving this year barring bad weather. There will be at least eight of us. She has decided to serve buffet style and is in the process of deciding which sides she will make and which she will buy to re-heat (she hates re-heated). Barb is bringing pies. Sue will not be surprised if Tushar (Culinary school graduate) brings something or that he might just bring his chef's carving knives (she hopes).

I think that is about it from here, except that it is a bit chilly this morning (46o outside. It is just not quite chilly enough in the house for the furnace to start.

Marilyne

I'm pleased to see so many messages here this morning!   All of them nice and long, and filled with lots of interesting things going on in your lives.

Beverly -  Good to know that the twins are both doing well, and that they are  in the private room in Pediatric's with Brynn.  Does she stay there overnight with the babies, or does she leave at night and return the next day?   I don't think I have heard of a hospital set-up like that, but it sounds wonderful, and much better for mom and babies.  Hard to believe they are already six weeks old.

Sorry that Lauri, is not back to normal as yet.  My granddaughter Ashley is still not 100% either.   She mostly suffers from extreme fatigue, and shortness of breath.  She is also a nurse, so is on her feet most of the day.  As I mentioned before, she was fully vaccinated, but got Covid from her youngest daughter who was not yet old enough for the vaccine.

Glad you are feeling a little bit better, and hope that you continue to improve.

MarGal -  A nice long message from you too, filled with all sorts of interesting news.  I hope you find out which critter has now taken up residence under your house?    I can understand why you want to get rid of your carpet, and make your living room more "cat-friendly".  (Meaning: easier for you to clean up after them!)

Your upcoming Thanksgiving at your sister's house, sounds like a large family gathering!  I'd like to know more about Tushar, the chef?  Your sisters both married interesting and talented men.  I remember when you told us about Sue's husband, the jazz musician.  Lots of interesting things online about him.

Guess I had better get started on the day.  It's after 8:00 here, and I've already had too much coffee.  So maybe I'll have a burst of energy, and get something done around here today.

Hello to Jackie, and to Rick. Hope you are both looking forward to a Nic Fall weekend?

A good Saturday HELLO to all. 🍁🍂So nice to see so many newsy posts.

RAMMEL, and MARILYN' S  Hubby AJ......sad for you to not be able to raise your arms......I hope and pray I will be....it moves well for my PT, but will I be able to raise it🤪🤪

BEVERLY, so pleased to read about the twins.  I keep them in my prayers  and do hope they can go home soon❣️ Our AR Family have all been ill with sinus, horrible coughs.....but so far no positive Covid! I had to chuckle at you asking if Bob is used to the large sectional yet🤪🤪🤪 Let's just say he no long comments about it at all.  The son who gave it to us just says things like, "that huge sectional that doesn't fit", but that is not being said much any more!  ALL of my friends 💗 it and think it looks nice.  Of course the guys say they are just being nice to me, but I do not think so😘😘. Now I am trying to buy new pillows for it that will give it a POP, and I sure could use a daughter to help me out, as Bob could care less and says he dislikes pillows.  I have known this for years, so the sofa has nothing to do with it😡. Looking forward, of course, to getting in that pool😘

MARSGAL, I hoped all your issues you are dealing with were solved by now😩😩. Gurr regarding them not giving you heads up before about doing more of the sewer line🤬. Dang that critter breaking through the lattice!  Our problem is the Raccoons and Squirrels damaging things! Your Thanksgiving plans sound delightful.  I miss big family gatherings.  I would like to change out my carpet for hardwood flooring also.  I hope you can do it!

MARILYNE, sorry Lauri continue to be worn down from her Covid. I said earlier that the AR Family did not have Covid, but actually the DIL did, but very little symptoms.  The son and grandma have not tested positive inspite of their coughs etc.! DIL is a middle school nurse, and is vaccinated and always wears a mask, but the many students with Covid got thru to her😩

Hey JACKIE! Guess you are about ready for bed.  Ihope you have good plans for church tomorrow 🙏🙏

Thursday we had our yearly physicals.  Everything went great, but the doc ALWAYS wants me to go see this doc for this and another for that.  Truth is......I am DOCTORED out for now!  We both got our flu shots and will continue to stay tuned if and when the Moderna booster will be offered.

Yesterday I saw my Endocrinologist.  I thought he might be upset with me over my A1C but he was not.  He was pleased with my slow but sure weight loss and said my higher bloodsugars are due to my extreme pain and stress🥰🥰

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny..sounds like it is " onwards and upwards " and you are slowly getting there...

I have my morning church reading today...and it goes out live to our own congregation.....

Jackie - Lauri is single now and needs financially to work the longer hours. (She's 62) Plus she likes her job. She works in "crisis" in the Emergency Room. She's a psychologist and it's not the best paying job! Hope your church reading went well today.

MarsGal - For stains on the rug try using Oxy-Clean spray. We replaced carpet with a good quality laminate and love it. It's so easy to take care of and keep clean. I love refinished hardwood if it's in good shape. Our base flooring here is concrete.

Jenny - For some reason, I find that most men hate pillows.  :) They usually push them aside. Lauri had both shots but they were back in December. She thinks she caught it at the grocery store where it was crowded and she had forgotten her mask. A lot of people here have had the 3rd shot of Moderna even though it hasn't been officially authorized by the FDA. I had my flu shot over a week ago and the doctor said I should wait a few weeks after that to get the 3rd Moderna.

Marilyne - This is Beverly's third day of the trial but I haven't heard how the feeding is going. Yes, Brynn stays day and night in the private room with the babies. It's a wonderful set-up and I've never seen it done either. This way she does most of the babies care and Beverly is the only one in hospital care. She can have close family visitors. I'm sorry Ashley is still having problems. It's a tough virus!

Have a good evening.

Denver

SUNDAY afternoon HELLO to ALL.  WE are watching the second half of my Broncos Game. Our quarter back is on concussion protocol, so we may not be able to be 4-0 today😩🤪🏈

JACKIE, I hope your readings went well for you today.  Since it is on YouTube, can you share it with us to enjoy also?  I would LOVE to se3 and hear you speak again🥰

LOL, BEVERLY😘 Guess men do not enjoy the finer things like we do, regarding pillows. 🤪🤪 Our doc said to not even think about getting another Moderna vaccine until it is announced what the booster will be.  He sad Moderna is the stronger of the vaccines and we are better covered than other vaccines people have been given.  Glad you have had your flu shot.

It is perfect temperatures here today.  We are not expecting any moisture for a few days, but we sure could use some.

Have a good rest of your day.

Jenny...i dont think you, or anybody seeing me struggle and holding up the congregation while i grab hold of my rollator and get myself prepared for the short journey walking bent over up there, ( deadly silence, ) where the microphone was placed on the floor and not the stage that i cant get up on, holding my bible in one hand and balancing to stop myself from falling over...i now cringe with embarrassment at myself.. :-[ but the reading did go word perfect, although not the embarrassing speed i read it at..

This has really brightened up my day...Just had a lady from my church phone to ask me if i was in, she came inside and presented me with a beautiful bunch of flowers on behalf of my church for my yesterdays church reading, i totally was not expecting that...She told me i read beautifully... I will try to post a photo of the flowers if and when possible...

Jackie -  You did a good job  with your Bible reading on Sunday!  That took some courage and determination  on your part, and it sounds to me like you were appreciated by the congregation.  Very nice that the lady from your Church came to your house today, and  brought you a bouquet of flowers!

Jenny -   Ah yes - football season is in full swing here too, and AJ is enjoying it every Saturday and Sunday.  He records lots of the college games on Saturday, because he has so many favorites that he follows.  Especially those on the West Coast, but a few others in the South and East. Hope we hear from you again today, as to how your shoulder is progressing?  I think it's nearing the time for your water therapy?

Tomorrow, our utility company, Pacific Gas & Electric, will be doing work here in our neighborhood, all day long!  The notice we got, says our power will be out from 9:00 AM, until 7:00 PM!  :yikes:   That means all day with no computer, TV, AC, or cooking of any kind!  I'm dreading it, as it will be a very long day for us seniors.

Vanilla-Jackie

#20862
Marilyne...oh no, a day without your electric supply, do these companies - workmen not realise that to us seniors, one day is like a month going without...

...my beautiful flowers came in a pot container...I feel so blessed to have found this church, these lovely people...it is a real nice area to live in...
" There is no present like the time "

Beverly

Jackie - I agree with what Marilyne said. Where you felt embarrassment, many will see courage. I know I do! Enjoy your flowers.  :rose:  I'd say you've found a good church group.

Jenny - I don't follow football or basketball, but Chape gets a lot of enjoyment from them. Being from the east coast, he's a Giants football fan (and sometimes Patriots!) and Brooklyn Nets basketball. I know you love the Broncos!

Marilyne - Oh, my! All day with no power! I hope your temps are cooler these days. It's 90 here and I'd hate to be without A/C. Being without the computer is even worse! :)

Update on Baby Beverly. Brynn said she has gained a little weight and if she continues doing as well as she has without the feeding tube the last 36 hours, she may be able to go home at the end of this week. These twins have quite a wardrobe! Brynn has wanted a baby for a long time and has admittedly collected baby clothes for the past ten years.  ::) I'll try to post a couple of pictures.

Denver

A good Monday to ALL💐We have just returned from having breakfast out with my long time growing up friend.  We do not get to meet as often as we would like as she lives in Wyoming.  We met last Friday night for dinner then again today.  She is in town to visit relatives and friends.  She had a birthday not long ago so these two meals out plus a little gift was our celebration for her.

JACKIE, I feel your pain you felt as you approached the front of the church do do your reading. I am very proud of you for doing this as I know it was not easy for you.  And yes, it took a lot of courage on your behalf and it was recognized, I am sure. It seems all went well and was appreciated by other parishioners as they showed you that by bringing you the beautiful flowers💐 How sweet.  I truly hoped we might be able to see the you-tube clip‼️ Here is a BIG HUG for you🥰

Oh MARILYN! how awful it is going to be to be without power for so long tomorrow 😩. I hope they can get the job completed sooner so you can get up and running again.  AJ and Bob would be a pair to draw to as Bob, too, tapes the college  games to catch them all.  Then on Sunday he tapes different games AND of course the Red Zone!  When I moan a little bit he is quick to remind me that he told me when we met that he loves to watch football, and I remember it well from 54 plus years ago🤪🤪.

BEVERLY, another football 🏈 spouse!  (I used to say football "widow" but that term is much too real and frightening to me at this stage in my life😩🤪). Prayers are being answered that little Beverly to be able to gain weight so she can go home.  How sweet that Brynn has been saving baby clothes 🥰🥰🥰

My PT got canceled today and I am disappointed as I look forward to it after a two day weekend. 😩   We are going for a overnight to meet up with  our 3rd son, wife and Jonah.  Not sure how I will do, as there is not a recliner in the hotel room, but it will be fine.  I may have some good news to share soon about this visit with them.... I hope!  I can not wait to get a hug from my boy....he is growing up so quickly and I miss him so.

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone!  This will be a better day than yesterday for sure!  A day without electrical power is tough to handle at our age, but we managed okay, and actually enjoyed watching the action!  Dozens of workers arrived on time, and spent until 7:00 PM,  in our backyard, as well as in three other yards on our block, that have a utility/telephone pole in their yards. All wires were replaced and three poles removed and replaced with new ones. We still have our same "old faithful" pole, because they have no way to get the heavy equipment into our yard to remove and replace. But we do have all new and higher wiring, and all the stuff that sits up there on the crossbar.    Anyway, it was a long day, but interesting to be an observer, and watch them do their work.

So,  the good news today, is that it's our 65th Anniversary!  Both AJ and I are amazed that we're both still here, and managing to keep on keeping on!  Sometimes it was a bumpy road, but mostly smooth sailing over the years.   We plan to go out tonight, to one of our favorite restaurants, for a celebration dinner.

Vanilla-Jackie

Marilyne Wishing you and Hubby AJ the most glorious 65th Anniversary and memories that linger for ever...

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Marilyn, Happy Anniversary to you and AJ.  Enjoy your dinner out!!
Glad you "survived" the day without electricity.  I enjoyed watching the very efficient roofers while they had my driveway blocked and yard covered with their "supplies" - even their lunches!  They were here almost 12 hours and not a speck of trash was left anywhere.
I'm pretty sure  the entire project is done because the Porta-Pottys have been hauled away.

Beverly, that's some fancy knitting the Wyoming Grandma did!!!!  Darling babies  :smitten:

Jenny and Jackie,  I think I commented on your posts in The Soda Shoppe so will just say "ditto" here.  ;)

Re: watching football.  I remember the days when we had 2 t.v.s on without the sound - and listening to a 3rd game on the radio.  My Dad had taught me to follow the OU games on the radio (pre-tv days) by drawing the yard lines on a box lid and having me move a red checker for OU and a black one for the opponent up and down the "field."  So I had no problem keeping up with the multiple games.
Nowadays, I rarely see even an OU game from start to finish.

Projects du Jour are desk work and making dinner for son.

Saying this reminds me of the year we lived in student housing while husband was doing graduate work. There were several other families from other parts of the country there at the same time and it was interesting to learn the different terms we used to this:
Some "made" dinner.
Some "fixed" dinner.
and some "cooked" dinner.  What do you do?  ("Nuked" and "Order out" are not options  ;D )

Another difference was terms for bread.  Some served buns for dinner and put hamburgers on a roll. Others, including me, did the opposite.

Furnace guy is here to give mine its annual checkup.  Haven't needed to turn it on, yet, but probably won't be long.

Enjoy your day.

MarsGal

A very Happy Anniversary, Marilyne and AJ.

I am glad you got through your ordeal just fine. I had my own yesterday waiting for the sewer repair guys to redo my sewer line. It took all day and did they ever leave a mess. My poor lawn will take some doing to get it back in shape again. Not much I can do this year except for picking out the many, many, large stones and maybe racking it a little smoother. It will take a while for the ground to settle so I can fill in with topsoil and reseed. At least they didn't have to dig up the whole line, just the top and bottom ends. They ran some extra heavy pvc piping through the old iron pipe, repositioned the access pipe at the back of the house and put in an extra one at the top. It is a good thing I didn't have the landscapers out to redo the side of the house. Now they will have an even bigger project fixing the lawn should I not do it myself.

Tomorrow is my semi-annual trip to the dentist.

Vanilla-Jackie

Callie..yes you did ( comment on my post in Soda Shoppe ) so i will let you off... ;D

Marilyne, Happy 65th to you and AJ.  Wow, that's a very long time.  Before my hubby passed, we were coming up on our 57th and that seemed to amaze everyone!

Glad your electricity is on again, and that you have new light poles.

And to MarsGal, we had to have the sewer lines replaced, just a few months before hubby passed.  They did a nice neat job, always cleaned up their trash, but nothing to be done about the rocks that surfaced when they filled in the trenches.  I am certainly not going to pick them up by hand, and a rake won't quite do the job.

Jackie, did your bible reading get put on YOuTube, where we could watch it?

Happy Celebrations to all who are having birthdays, anniversaries, good doctor's reports and liveable weather!

Just because I don't post responses, doesnt mean I am not here enjoying everything being reported, bragged on or commiserated.

As JaneS says: "God Bless Us Every One".

Been a brilliant four and a half hours...Our church, my church has started its long awaited lunch club which followed on straight after my morning church games - tea and prayer with some hands on stone painting which the lunch took place straight after in our adjoining hall, of course my stone wont win any prizes..what a great turn out, and a fabulous array on our table of salad foods with hot jacket potato followed by a choice of five to choose from afters...a fantastic atmosphere was had by all, plus good conversation around our table which sat our lady vicar in casual clothes as her norm...

THANK YOU to  Jackie, Callie, MarsGal, Joanne, Beverly and Phyllis, for the anniversary greetings!   Phyllis, it was nice of you to visit us here in Bait & Tackle, with your congratulations!

Yes, it seems impossible that it has been 65 years!  October 6, 1956, at The Church of Our Saviour, in San Gabriel.  It seems like a dream now, when I remember all those friends and loved ones who were there with us.  They are all gone now . . . every single one of them.   I'm thinking about that beautiful love song . . .  "Misty water colored memories,  of The Way We Were".

Vanilla-Jackie

Oh Marilyne that is sad, " not one of them left " who were with you the day you got married...
" There is no present like the time "

Beverly

Callie - I think I alternately say "made" or "fixed" dinner. I remember when I moved to Oklahoma smiling at the use of "fixing to". I loved the Oklahomans and their sayings.

For bread I say hot dog rolls or hamburger buns.

Does anyone remember Norm insisting they were not "Hamburgers" but a "Hamburg".  :)

Jackie - Your "lunch club" sounds like a wonderful social time.

Phyllis - Nice to see you here.

MarsGal - It's unfortunate they've left you with such a mess. If the town or city repairs things here they leave the yard like new, but I guess this was a private contractor.

Tomreader - Comments aren't necessary! I enjoy reading your posts. I disappear for weeks at a time, but I keep up with all the posts. After so many years this feels like family.

Marilyne - With any luck, next June we will be celebrating our 65th anniversary.
